BLURB

Adrian Maddox fled his royal life—and tragic past—in Sector One, choosing instead to join up with the O’Kanes. For years, he’s lived by one rule: love fast, love hard, and always be willing to walk away.
He’s managed to guard his heart, keep it whole and untouched—until now.

They couldn’t be more different—
Dylan, the brilliant, burned-out doctor from Eden who drowns his pain with drugs and self-destruction.
Scarlet, the sensuous, sexy rocker from Three, a woman unafraid to embrace the world.
And Jade, the whore turned spy from Sector Two, who battled addiction and came out stronger than anyone he’s ever met.

Separately, they make Mad long to open his heart, to tumble head-first into a sea of possibilities and wild love. Together, they make him burn, inside and out, with lust and unbearable, unimaginable pleasure.

Then one fateful moment shakes their world to its foundations—and leaves the sectors on the verge of all-out war with Eden.
It’s the biggest fight the O’Kanes have ever faced, and Mad and his lovers are at the dead center of it.
They could end up with everything they never knew they wanted—or lose it all.
Including their lives.

Read Chapter One…

Chapter One

From the time he was old enough to understand words, people had been assuring Mad that he was blessed. He was the cosseted grandson of the Prophet, a holy prince adored and anointed by God himself. Everything he wanted should fall into his open hand. It was his destiny to do great things.

For a blessed man, he had terrible timing.

He paused on the threshold of the garage as Scarlet scowled at the broken-down amplifier on the bench in front of her. Shitty timing or not, the sight of her still kicked him in the gut as she pulled the wires away from the circuit board to get a better look.

She was wearing beat up jeans and an even more battered tank top. Her newly blonde hair had a bluish tint and was twisted on top of her head in a messy ponytail. The cigarette dangling from her lips emphasized her frown, which did nothing to diminish her overall impact.

Scarlet was hot. Not in spite of her clothes and her attitude, but because of them. Because Scarlet was unapologetically herself.

And because of who she was—protective, dangerous, stubborn—she was going to be trouble.

He’d hoped to slip out of Sector Four without attracting attention. Dallas had always granted Mad a certain amount of autonomy, a choice driven by politics and cemented by trust, but tonight Mad was treading a line dangerously close to disobedience.

She pulled the cigarette from her mouth without looking up. “Hey.”

“Scarlet.” He pushed off the doorframe and headed for his bike. She sounded distracted, so maybe luck was with him after all. “You’re working late.”

“Amp’s got a short in it. The garage has the best tools, but you have to use them when some motherfucker’s not banging them on an engine.” The soft glow at the tip of her cigarette flared as she took another drag. “What about you?”

“I have an errand to run.” Close enough to the truth.

“Alone?” Scarlet rolled her stool away from the work bench and propped one solid boot on the shelf. Her brows came together in a severe slash over her clear blue eyes as she looked him over. “I thought O’Kane had rules about that these days.”

These days had started the moment Eden tortured one of Dallas’s operatives. Started—or returned. Mad could still remember the early years, when no O’Kane ever ventured out of the compound without a partner to guard his back. Success and relative safety had made them all cocky, careless.

Now wasn’t the time for cocky and careless. Even Mad wasn’t that stupid. “I’m just bending the rules, not breaking them. I’m meeting a friend in Three.”

“Uh-huh.” The corner of her mouth tipped up in a sly smile. “Sure, Saint Adrian.”

The nickname made him tense instinctively, though he preferred the faint mockery in her voice to hearing the words whispered in earnest. “You can’t become a saint until you’re dead, sweetheart. That’s not on my agenda.”

“I bet.” She rose and crossed the garage, passing within inches of him before circling his bike. The proximity sparked heat all over his skin, and her low, husky laugh was even hotter. “Be careful anyway. And if—if—you make it all the way into Sector Two, do me a favor?”

That was the sexiest thing about Scarlet—her clever brain. “It never hurts to ask for a favor.”

“Mmm. Avery Parrino.”

It shouldn’t have surprised him. Avery was Lex’s baby sister, but she was also an old acquaintance of Jade’s. “She’s worried about her?”

“Of course. They’re friends.”

Somehow, Mad thought Jade might worry even if they weren’t. She’d won her freedom from Sector Two, but she still carried the place inside her, the same way Mad carried Sector One. A duty and an obligation. A painful scar.

At least Jade had Scarlet. Protective, dangerous, stubborn Scarlet. Whatever crazy shit was going on with Two, Jade wouldn’t have to face it alone.

“That’s why I’m going,” he said, reaching for his helmet. “We all know there’s trouble over there, and it can blow back on too many of our people. We need to be ready.”

“Spoken like a good little soldier.”

There was the mockery again. It dug under his skin this time, scraping at wounded pride he didn’t want to acknowledge. He was a good soldier. Even damaged and worn down, he held the line for his brothers and got the job done. “You got a problem, Scarlet?”

“A problem? Nah.” She crushed her cigarette out on the sole of one boot and tossed the butt on the work bench. “Just seems like you talk a big game about teamwork and brotherhood, but when you get right down to it? You’re gonna do whatever the fuck you want. You always do.”

She was leaning against the bench again, just a few feet away. He crossed the garage in two long steps that brought him into her personal space. Their bodies almost touched as he leaned past her to jab the switch that opened the big bay door.

Her ponytail brushed his cheek. Her hair smelled like vanilla and cinnamon. Like Jade, and the reminder of their relationship was a distraction Mad couldn’t afford.

He pulled back far enough to get a good grasp on his sanity, then smiled. “I’m gonna do whatever the fuck needs doing. Count on it.”

“You’re offended.” It wasn’t an accusation, just a statement of fact. “I meant it as a compliment, you know. O’Kane doesn’t need a bunch of blind followers. He needs men who can think for themselves.” She brushed a lock of hair back from his cheek. “Men like you.”

Her fingertips were soft. So was her touch, gentle and easy and nothing like his fantasies. And she could not be touching him right now—not with where he had to go and what he had to do tonight.

He caught her wrist and eased it away. “I’ll ask my contacts for news about Avery.”

“Thanks.” She turned away, but he could hear the smile in her voice. “You’re a prince.”

She was back to poking him, but it was almost a relief. The poking and the scratching and even the mockery were easy, safer than soft touches that tempted him to want what he couldn’t have. “Since the day I was born.”

Scarlet ignored him as he swung a leg over his motorcycle. He returned the favor as he shoved his helmet into place and roared out of the garage—maybe faster than was advisable.

He told himself it wasn’t running away if you had someplace to be.

The sector was mostly dark. It only took a few minutes to shoot past the final line of street lamps, and then the only light came from his bike and the moon.

He could still tell when he crossed the invisible border between Four and Three. Sector Four was rough around the edges, but Three was a mess. It had been almost a year since Dallas claimed ownership, but even long hours and determination couldn’t roll back the clock on total destruction.

Once upon a time, Sector Three had been a thriving business hub. An industrial center full of bustling factories that turned out the electronics and technology desperately needed by a civilization trying to drag themselves back from the brink of annihilation. But with raw materials hard to come by, profits were narrow—even when you paid your workers a pittance. And when you stopped paying them at all…

Mad could remember his grandfather talking about the strikes. A noble cause, he’d proclaimed. The people rising up to demand their due. A cause sure to shake Eden to its very foundations.

His grandfather might have been the Prophet, but he had no gift for prophecy. Eden’s foundations had stayed intact. And all eight sectors learned the price of disobedience when the sky filled with fire and Eden’s drones turned Three into rubble.

It remained rubble for more than a decade. None of the petty leaders who had risen to power in the sector had bothered expending time and resources to make things better. When the O’Kanes finally took over, half the roads were still impassable, and some were straight-up death traps.

Progress didn’t happen overnight. It would take years to turn Three around completely and rebuild what had been lost. But for now, at least Mad had a clear path through the sector as he guided his bike north, toward the East Road that marked the boundary between Three and Two.

The road wasn’t the only boundary. Even before the bombing, Sector Two had their wall. Ten feet high and running nearly a mile out, it encircled their paradise and did its best to keep out the undesirables on both sides.

It also did its best to keep girls like Lex’s sister—girls like Jade—inside.

The man waiting on an idling bike in the middle of the East Road was one of the ways those girls got out. Mad pulled to a stop next to him, rested his boots on the cracked pavement, and tugged off his helmet. “Deacon.”

“Mad.” The nickname still tripped clumsily off Deacon’s tongue, like a man speaking a language he’d learned to sound out but didn’t understand.

For good reason. Addressing a member of the Rios family casually approached blasphemy. Deacon might not have been the truest of true believers, but he was high up in the leadership of Sector One, the commander of the sector’s police force, and fiercely loyal to Mad’s cousin, Gideon. And this was why Mad hadn’t brought another O’Kane with him tonight. The way Gideon’s men looked at him—the way they treated him, with a hint of reverence and lingering deference—was too stark a reminder of all the things he’d fled.

But right now he needed Deacon and his connections.

“Another night might be better,” the man said slowly, squinting into the darkness surrounding them. “My friends in Two say security’s thin on the ground these days. Someone must have pissed off the MPs.”

Only one person could irritate Eden’s military police that much—the leader of Sector Two. “Cerys is usually more careful than that.”

“Guess she’s feeling the strain.”

They all were. But if Two had lost the support of the city, Dallas needed to know, and soon. “We can handle any trouble that comes our way.”

For a moment, Mad thought Deacon might argue. But he only bowed his head in submission.

Responsibility was a heavy weight. Sometimes he wasn’t sure how Dallas carried it every day. Mad felt it pressing down on him as they stashed their bikes and headed for the easiest place to slip over the wall.

Deacon went first, launching himself with a half-jump off the bottom of the wall to grip the top of the brick. He pulled himself up with no other leverage, then reached down from his perch atop the wall. Mad sighed and let Deacon haul him up.

They hit the ground on the other side together, their boots digging into the soft grass. The trees lining the river made this the best place to slip in undetected, but by the time they’d eased out of the sparse woods and into the shadows of one of the larger warehouses, Mad realized it didn’t matter.

Security wasn’t just thin. It was absent. So were the people who were usually going about their business, even at this late hour. He and Deacon made it two blocks without encountering anyone, and that was chilling enough to make Mad stop in a sheltered alley with his back against a brick building. “What the hell is going on?”

“No fucking clue.” It must have unnerved Deacon just as much, because he seized the opportunity to check the pistol tucked into his shoulder holster.

The shadows were deep, but Mad’s eyes had adjusted enough to pick out the tattoos winding down Deacon’s left arm. Every man who joined Gideon’s Riders was given the same initiation tattoo on his left shoulder—a sparse, leafless tree growing out of a skull. Deacon’s shirt sleeve hid most of it, but not the little black ravens spilling down toward his wrist, each one signifying a life taken in his quest to protect Sector One.

Gideon was tattooing his men long before O’Kane formed his gang. Maybe Dallas had even been inspired by the memorial tattoos—there was no denying the intimidating impact of a Rider with an arm full of ravens. But Mad preferred the promise of brotherhood inked around his wrists to the silent penance etched into Deacon’s skin.

Too many reminders of why he’d left. His shoulders tight, Mad checked his own pistol. “Let’s go see Lincoln so we can get the hell home.”

They made it only a few blocks before an unmistakable sound drifted out of the darkness—a blade clearing a leather sheath.

Mad spun, but his companion was faster. As the figure rushed from the shadows, Deacon surged in front of Mad. Silver glinted, but Deacon didn’t even grunt as the knife slashed across his chest. He gripped his attacker’s head, whispered something low and unintelligible, and snapped his neck with a vicious twist.

Just like that—in less than a heartbeat—it was over.

“Looks like Three.” Deacon kicked the knife away before kneeling beside the dead man. His jacket had fallen open, revealing a tangle of gold chain, credit sticks, and the occasional jewel. “Must have gotten cocky, with none of the fancy folks fighting back.”

He spoke so casually, as if he wasn’t bleeding from an entirely preventable wound. As if he wouldn’t be going back to Sector One to receive another little black raven tattoo, penance Mad owed for dragging him over the wall to begin with.

Mad retrieved the credit sticks and a couple of pieces of jewelry that looked easy to fence and shoved them in his pocket. Lincoln could use the credits to save a few more lives, to give a few more girls like Jade a chance at a future of their own choosing.

Triage. That was all it ever felt like. But he kept trying, even in the face of relentless hopelessness.

Maybe he was still a Rios at heart after all.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

OMFG – The Best, THE. BLOODY. BEST. book of the series yet!!!

Hell, 5* come nowhere close to how awesome this book is!!!!

I’ve looked forward to this book for so long – but was worried that with 4 lead characters, there would end up being 2 couples who came together rather than a solid relationship between the 4 of them…. I should have known better than to worry, those KR gals know how to pull everything together and make it all work – even if it takes a healthy dose of heartbreak, hurt and time to get there.

There were some really fraught time – you can’t have this many people in a relationship and not have issues, misunderstanding and upset. There was the heat, passion, intensity and downright dirty, sexy and kinky goings on that we have come to expect from the Beyond stories. As ever, my heart and head were all over the place and at times I didn’t think I’d be able to take much more…. but, I got kept going and it was well worth the tears and upset!
I loved seeing them all together but seeing the different connections between them all, how they interacted in the various different ways, finding out their worries, history, secrets and desires, hell, there was so much packed in to this book that made for a complex and delicious read.

As much as Ruin was about the quad and their coming together, the bigger story was the beginning of the 3 book story ARC which saw us move towards the conclusion of this fanbloodytastic series!

We met up with the sector leaders again, were introduced to new characters who have been on the periphery of the story for a while now but who I think are gonna come more to the fore in their own way soon. Our much loved O’Kane’s were front and center for a lot of the book and that sense of belonging, family and support continues to grow as the books progress.

So many things were put in motion during this story and holy hells bells….. the ending…. while not a cliff hanger in the true sense of the word, it finished this first part of the ARC with an almighty bang!!!

I can’t wait to see what gonna happen following the events here and am really excited for the next great installment in this series.

Another fabulous hit from the Kit Rocha gals!!! ❤

All Noelle Cunningham has ever wanted is a life beyond–beyond the walls of Eden, where only the righteous are allowed to remain, and beyond her stiflingly restrictive existence as a councilman’s daughter. But only ruins lie outside the City, remnants of a society destroyed by solar storms decades earlier.

The sectors surrounding Eden house the corrupt, the criminal–men like Jasper McCray, bootlegger and cage fighter. Jas clawed his way up from nothing to stand at the right hand of Sector Four’s ruthless leader, and he’ll defend the O’Kane gang with his life. But no fight ever prepared him for the exiled City girl who falls at his feet.

Her innocence is undeniable, but so is their intense sexual attraction, and soon they’re crossing every boundary Noelle barely knew she had. But if she wants to belong to Jas, first she’ll have to open herself to a world where passion is power, and freedom is found in submission.

Snippets

1.

Opening the door a crack, Gavin glanced out and, at first, didn’t see anyone. His visitor blended that well. Head ducked, shoulders curved, the woman blended into the background.

When he cleared his throat, she immediately startled and raised her head. The biggest brown eyes framed in long, dark lashes met his. Met and snagged his gaze.

Punched him as well in an emotional sense.

She’s the one.

Like hell.

He stepped back and, as if afraid the devastating—unwanted—conviction would follow, slammed the door shut.

2.

“Are you always a gentleman?” she blurted out. She bit her lower lip a moment later at the implication he wasn’t. He wasn’t her family or a close friend that she could just speak her mind or, as her cousins complained, insult at every turn.

Instead of taking offence, he laughed, a low baritone that again set her nerves a tingling. “Most definitely not. Most would actually compare me to the wolf.”

“Because you’re wild?”

“Partially, but more because I’m a hunter. When I see what I want, I go after it.”

“And what do you want?”

As the elevator door closed, encasing them in a small space where she remained much too aware of him, he didn’t immediately reply, but he did stare down at her, an intense gaze that had her dropping her eyes to study the scuffed floor.

A finger tipped her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. “Would you run like a scared rabbit if I said I wanted you?”

3.

Need thrummed through him. A primal urge to hunt his female down and claim her. Gavin understood some of the intensity of his emotions had to do with his base side, his wolf side. It wasn’t as if he was two beings in one body—man and wolf—and yet, at times, certain aspects of his wild side pushed for dominance. Such as now, when a part of him thought he should return to Megan, knock on her door—kick it down if she doesn’t answer—sweep her into his arms, and seduce her until she clawed his back and cried his name.

“Absolutely not.” Funny how Gavin kept repeating it, and yet Broderick continued to pester.

“Come on, dude. Do this one favor for me.”

“One? Don’t you owe me like a dozen at this point?” And yeah, he kept track. A practical man, Gavin fully planned to call them in one day.

“All I’m asking is that you talk with the girl. Once you meet her, you’ll agree with me. She’s innocent, and if someone doesn’t step in and do something to help her, they’re going to throw her ass in jail and toss away the key.”

“As I recall, you said the same thing about Simon, your lawn guy.”

“So I misjudged in his case. How was I to know he was an ex biker with a brother in jail for murder? He seemed like such a nice guy.” Gavin could practically see his friend squirm at the reminder. “This time, though, I’m telling you, the girl is innocent and could use someone on her side.”

“My answer is still no.”

“But I haven’t mentioned the best part. I’m pretty sure she’s being framed by Fabian Garoux.”

The juicy tidbit dangled before him, surefire bait to pique his interest. At the mention of Fabian, Gavin stopped drumming his fingers and swung his chair away from his lofty view of the city—the advantage of a penthouse office suite. Expensive but worth every damn penny.

“What the hell does Fabian have to do with this?”

“Did I forget to mention that the man this woman supposedly murdered was his enemy?”

As were lots of other people. Fabian didn’t have many close friends, probably because he was a prime example of an asshat. “Have you stopped to consider that maybe she was hired to do the hit?” While not exactly common, women were just as capable of assassination as a man. He remembered a pair of twins in bikinis he once crossed paths with whose victims often died with a smile. A smart man, who intended to live ripe into his old age, he steered clear of the invitation to celebrate their acquittal. Winning didn’t make his clients innocent. He was just that good.

“No way was she hired. My gut says she’s telling the truth about being framed.”

“Your gut also keeps dragging you back to that Mexican place, even though you have to chew antacids like a candy-stricken addict for days afterward.”

Broderick groaned. “Such pleasurable pain. And stop changing the subject. Talk to her. Hear what she has to say. If you don’t believe her, then no harm. She keeps her public defender and goes to jail. But if you believe her…”

Then Gavin would take on the case pro bono just for a chance to screw with the dirtiest dog around. Fabian Garoux, biggest crime lord in the city. Slippery bastard with too many bodyguards, always a ready alibi, and the wolfsbane of Gavin’s existence. Also known as his creator—and the alpha he refused to roll over for.

“Fine. I give up against your expert nagging. I’ll see her. What jail are they holding her in?”

“Funny thing you should ask. Someone posted her bail. Anonymously. A hefty half-million dollars. Know anyone with cash like that?”

That piece of dangling steak just got bigger. Fabian had that kind of money. The thought of tying him to a serious crime practically made him wag his ass in delight. Good thing it remained planted in his chair. Wolves could get away with shaking their tail. Grown men in suits? Not so much.

“That is some serious dough.” But chump change for Fabian. “Get her to set an appointment with my secretary.”

“No need to delay. She’s already there.”

“What do you mean she’s there?”

“I mean there, as in sitting in your reception area. I dropped her off at your office just before I called.”

And Gavin never knew of his visitor because his secretary had left to fetch them both lunch.

As Broderick hung up, mid chuckle, Gavin grumbled under his breath. “No good, meddling feline, always trying to help every bloody stray that comes his way.”

A less nice guy would have eaten the furball. However, Gavin counted Broderick as one of his closest friends, and had since his change. It was Broderick who calmed Gavin down the first time he morphed into a wolf at the insistent brilliance of a full moon.

Suffering from a full-blown panic attack, first from the pain of shapeshifting then dealing with the horror of the knowledge he’d chased down a rabbit and eaten it raw—which still made him want to heave—Broderick was the one who’d found him and offered him a towel to gird his loins when he awoke the next morning, naked on the forest floor. Pine needles, for the curious, did not make the best of cushions, unless attempting a homeopathic version of acupuncture.

Back to Broderick, though. If his bud wanted something, then Gavin would provide it. He always did. Why did it prove so hard to hate the good guy? Dammit I keep trying. And failing. Stupid best bud. I gotta remember to chase his mangy butt up a tree the next full moon. Watching him climb down bare assed the next day always gave Gavin a good chuckle.

Fabian Garoux, on the other hand, wouldn’t get the same courtesy. This was one instance where he was kind of glad Broderick had involved him. Anything to do with Fabian was of interest to Gavin. Especially anything that might allow him to punish the arrogant jerk through legal means.

Standing, Gavin stretched to his full height of six feet three before heading to his door, a thick, double-hung, steel-framed, and insulted vault of a portal, which he’d had installed when remodeling the office. A safe place to change if caught unexpectedly downtown during a forced moon shift. While werewolves in London might run rampant, werewolves in New York City got shot at. For those who wondered, silver or metal bullets hurt, and could kill, while buckshot was a literal pain in the ass to remove.

Rose moaned as she tried to get up, pain lancing through her body as she forced her eyes open.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck.” She cursed as even the smallest movement caused agony so great that she saw black spots before her eyes. “Breathe,” she commanded, as a groan escaped her lips in retaliation at the movement of her broken ribs.
She stifled the moans that were rumbling up her throat, silence and stealth were her friends now. She wasn’t stupid enough to think that fucker Razor hadn’t instructed the guards to alert him when she woke. “You need to focus, heal yourself, and then get the hell out of here,” She told herself firmly.

Rose lay back onto the soft bed, murmuring quietly a simple healing spell, and grinding her teeth when it went to work. The soft sounds of her bones knitting back together were all she heard, apart from the blood pumping so fast through her system it was echoing in her ears. Bones, bumps, bruises and split skin, were soon almost healed, gingerly rising to go to the bathroom. She rinsed her face, redid her hair with her silver sticks, then returned to redress in clean clothes, clothes that didn’t stink of her own and Razor’s blood. That’d be far too easy for Razor or his Demon guards to track, and she was definitely not going to make it easy for them to find her.

She knew what he’d do to her the next time he got her in his grip.

TEASER:

With no more than a flash of thought, he was inside the man’s room and standing at the foot of a large bed.

Locks. Such a useless human defense.

He cocked his head to the side and examined the book splayed open on the man’s naked chest. It looked as though it had fallen there when he’d drifted off to sleep, his fingers still resting against the glossy cover.

Heroes, Gods, and Monsters of the Greek Myths.

Now that is an unlikely coincidence.

A sinister smile morphed Alasdair’s lips, and he touched the tip of his tongue to the fangs elongating from his upper gums. The familiar surge of adrenaline caused his skin to come alive with awareness as his body prepared itself to do what it had been created for.

Raising his hand, he flicked his wrist and the covers whisked back. The man beneath was no more aware of the action than a slight shift in the air as a low sigh escaped him and he stretched his body, turning his head on the pillow.

The sight that greeted Alasdair made the hours he’d spent tracking well worth the time. When the human took a breath, the knotted drawstring tie of his linen lounge pants caught his attention. Fuck, that made him want to indulge his carnal side first.

Maybe this was the root of his current obsession. In fact, that thought was followed by one truer to his perverse nature. How long would it take to have him clutching those covers from lust if I wanted it? And as Alasdair continued to observe the human, he realized just how much he wanted it.

The chest where the book was lying was covered in a light dusting of blond hair. It trailed a path along the center of the man’s sternum to his stomach, which looked as hard as his own. However, unlike his own abdomen, this man’s skin would be warm to the touch.

Perhaps he could take a moment or two and… No, he didn’t have the time, and that really was a shame. A meeting had been called this evening, and he was due at the Assembly Hall soon. The last thing he wanted to do was piss off the Ancients by being late.

So, with the speed and the stealth only his kind possessed, he was on the bed and stretched out above the man, and his mouth hovered over the ear closest to him.

He threw the book, which landed with a loud thump on the floor, and couldn’t stop himself from slipping one of his hands beneath those thin pants to curl his fingers around the flaccid cock he found inside. When a soft groan left the human, Alasdair used his other hand to capture his captive’s wrists like iron shackles and pin them above his head. Before the man had a chance to wake, he delved inside his head and projected an image of where this hunt would finally end.

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Let’s Ride by Rebecca Black

LetsRide-evernightpublishing-JayAheer2015-banner2

Hello!

Thanks for having me today so I can give my new book Let’s Ride a shout out.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I really love a good, quick read. Busy lives often don’t leave as much time as we’d like for reading, do they? I’m not always so bothered about the backstory, I just want to live vicariously for a moment through the characters as they experience that first rush of lust and desire in a new relationship – I want to get a little hot and tingly 😉
Well Evernight’s Romance on the Go range is all about fulfilling this reading need and my new release Let’s Ride is a part of that.

LetsRide-evernightpublishing-JayAheer2015-finalimage

Let’s Ride started life as an erotic short that I wrote for Masturbation Monday (a meme that I write for most weeks). I saw a black and white photograph of this gorgeous, androgynous woman sat on a kick ass motorbike in just a pair of knickers and this piece of flash fiction just fired out of me. Talk about inspiration!
She looked like she wouldn’t take any crap and she looked very capable of sweeping someone off their feet. It got a lot of great feedback so I decided to extend it and lucky for me, Evernight liked it too.
I’ve read some great books with well written dominant male characters, both straight and gay, but I really wanted to write a recognisable archetype with a twist. There isn’t one good reason on this earth why the hero has to be male. Let’s Ride completely rejects that assumption. Jo is confident, self-assured and has a dominant streak a mile wide, but she’s also a beautiful woman, inside and out. She rides into town and sweeps Mary-Beth right off her feet and into her bed. I love her (I know I’m not supposed to say that because I wrote her, but I really do!) and I hope you do too.

Thanks for reading!

Rebecca

Let'sRideCompleted teaser

So here’s the blurb:

“I would do just about anything to be on the back of that bike when she leaves this place.”
Trapped in a small town life, Mary-Beth always knew there was something better out there. Then Jo rides into town and walks straight into the diner where she works. Sexy, dominant and self-assured, Jo is everything Mary-Beth wishes she could be. Their hot, intense meeting crashes through Mary-Beth’s small world and offers her the promise of a new start.
Will Mary-Beth leave everything behind and ride with Jo towards the chance of a new life?

Excerpt:

Standing by the window, I’m trying to take a lunch time customer’s order but my attention is caught by a bike riding into the gas pump out front.
I hold my breath. She is pretty much everything that I wish I could be. Tall and lean. Enough fuck you attitude to tame a horde of marauding Vikings. She straddles that bike like she was born to it, like she never rode a trike. Like she just stepped right onto all that horsepower and with a flick of her wrists rode off into the sunset, giving everyone the finger as she went.
I would do just about anything to be on the back of that bike when she leaves this place.
She kicks the stand and moves the bike smoothly into its stationary position, slinging her long leg over the back wheel.
I jump a little when our eyes meet through the window. I’m supposed to be taking this guy’s order but I got distracted, seriously distracted. She smirks when her eyes roam over the redness in my cheeks.
Heat has suffused my body; a fine sweat has broken out on my skin and I know I’m in trouble. So much trouble.
I manage to scramble my brain sufficiently to take his order and drop it off at the kitchen. Moving around the bar, I grab the coffee pot to do refills. I can’t stop looking at the door.
Will she come in? Or has she just come for gas?
Please let her come in.
I want to see her up close—I want to see her eyes—that flawless skin. I want to run my fingers over the black shaved hair on the sides of her head, run them through the longer top that she has greased back. I want to watch her eyes close with the pleasure of it.
I hold my nerve when I hear the bell ring over the door. I’m pouring coffee—it really wouldn’t do to spill it and burn a customer. I’m bent over slightly to reach the cup, and my skirt brushes against the back of my legs when she walks past me.
I smile distractedly as the customer thanks me, turning my head to see she has taken a seat at the bar.
Walking over on shaky legs, I smooth my damp palms down the front of my uniform apron.
She sits tall, resting her elbows on the counter. Her legs are open, one heel of her heavy black boots hooked higher on the stool than the other. Her jeans are tight, riding low on slim hips, well worn with a small rip over one knee. A tight white t-shirt stops a few inches from the waistband of her jeans, showing smooth lightly tanned skin that I desperately want to touch.
Her knowing gaze follows me as I move around the bar to face her. I can almost feel a pressure on my skin where it touches me.
“What can I get for you?”
“What have you got?” she asks in a low, husky voice. Her eyes lock on mine. Her eyebrows are like a raven’s wings, perfectly shaped, drawing my attention across her arresting face.
“Pretty much anything, as long as it’s deep fried and unhealthy,” I say wryly.
She laughs. The sound is low and rough and strokes over my nipples.
“Always tastes good, though, don’t it?” she replies. That smirk plays across her mouth again as her gaze drops to my lips. “I’ll just take a coffee for now. Think I’ll get something sweet in a little while…”

Synopsis

If you could have the man of your dreams would you go after him?

That was the question Faith asked herself when a tall
dark haired, sexy as sin vampire started coming to her in her dreams. Most
would dismiss it as nothing more than that, just dreams; but not her. Faith was
no ordinary young woman, she was a visionary.

She could see peoples’ futures in her dreams and by touching them. When she started seeing the beautiful vampire as she slept, she knew she had to go after him. Discovering he lived in the same house as the sister she never knew she had, just made it easier.

For Adrian the sudden appearance of the stunningly beautiful but innocent Faith meant trouble for him. For two years he’d been living a lie, and keeping a secret about what he got up to each night. His family had no idea, and that was how it had to be until Faith’s arrival threatened it all.

With her sheer determination to prove that they were destined for one another, suddenly Adrian’s life was thrown into chaos. For Faith who had ‘seen’ his future and knew his secrets it was simple, come clean and accept that he was hers.

Of course in her mind it was that simple, but not to Adrian. He still fought her at every turn, appearing to want her and then pushing her away again. Finally when things got too much, he ran, abandoning her and leaving her broken-hearted.

Then something happened, something that threatened their lives and had the potential to change everything. Was this going to be Faith’s chance for happily ever after or would everything be lost?

Would her visions become her nightmares, or was she finally going to get Adrian, who had literally been the man of her dreams?

Author Bio

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved to write, poetry, short stories just about anything. My English teachers in school kept telling me I should write and it took me a lot of years to finally get around to it.

I spent too long worrying about failing as a writer before I realized that living with the regret of never trying was worse.

I live in a sleepy country town in Tasmania, Australia with my partner and our three children, who aren’t so little anymore, plus a whole assortment of animals.

Natasha’s Awakening is my first book but I have no intention of stopping now and will continue to live my dream of being a published author. I have just published Taming Eric which is his POV to Natasha’s Awakening.

My interests are writing of course, reading, watching movies and hanging out at home with my family, our six cats and one dog.

Excerpt:

Her gaze moved from one to the other with an expectant look on her face. Her eyes rested on Jack when he leaned forward to rest his arms on the table. His beer was between his big hands and she watched his fingers trace the drops of condensation as they raced down the bottle.

“Us.” Jack’s hazel eyes locked with hers.

She swallowed. Hard. “Us? What do you mean?”

“The three of us. There’s more going on between us than just work.” His words held a note of conviction.

Oh God! He said three. He definitely said three. They couldn’t possibly know that she wanted both of them, could they? How the hell had she given that away? She thought she’d been so professional with them.

“Stop panicking, Ellie. Nothing we say or do from now on will affect our plans for the restaurants.” Nate’s calming words helped to some extent, but she still hadn’t taken her eyes off Jack. He was watching her like he expected her to run at any moment. He looked like he’d enjoy chasing her down and catching her too.

“I don’t understand…”

“We want you, Ellie. We need to know if you feel the same way.” Jack stated.

“We? What does that mean? I…both of you? But…”

“Yes. We want you. We need to know if you feel the same. Would you be prepared to be with us both?”

How was she supposed to respond to that? Nothing in her limited experience with men had prepared her for this conversation. She couldn’t see how anything good—well, apart from the sex—was going to come from this. How were they supposed to juggle working together, fucking, and being in a threesome? She wanted to though, so badly. Oh God, just the thought of having both of them.

But she just couldn’t risk it. What would happen when it was over? How could they possibly remain friends and work together? She’d be completely alone again if she had to leave. Her brain felt like it was in danger of a full meltdown. The temptation to run was strong and before she knew what she was doing, she’d jumped up. Her chair fell back. A distant part of her brain knew this wasn’t the most dignified way to handle this, but her fight or flight response was definitely urging her to get the hell out of there and not make a massive mistake.

She vaguely registered Nate’s shocked expression turning into a fleeting look of distress, but she didn’t get far before a steely arm grabbed her around her waist, yanking her off her feet. She was fairly sure she let out a little squeal as she landed on Jack’s lap.

“What the hell, Ellie?”

“Jack, calm down. She’s obviously freaked out.”

“I get that, but when did running away solve anything? We’re all adults here. If she doesn’t want this, all she has to do is say no.”

“We’ve gone about this all wrong, come on too strong. She’s scared. God, Ellie, we never wanted that. We just want to be with you. That’s all we’ve ever wanted.”

Jack’s arm held her firmly around her middle while his other hand rested on her hip.

Her heart was still trying to beat its way out of her chest, but she couldn’t ignore the heat emanating from his body. The hand on her hip kept gently, rhythmically flexing and releasing. She started to relax as she quietly listened to their words. She could hear the anxiety in both their voices and felt a rush of guilt at how she’d reacted. She was such a naive idiot—but she’d beat herself up for that later. Right now, she needed to make things right with the two most important men in her life.

“I’m sorry,” she said softly. “I’m an idiot. I shouldn’t have tried to run off like that.”

“Jesus, don’t apologize, Ellie.” Nate reached across the table to take her hand. “It’s ok that you don’t want this. We’ll carry on and forget we ever mentioned it. Nothing needs to change—”

“I want it,” she whispered.

Excerpt from Flash Point

The wind whipped around them suddenly, a ferocious gust that caused Katherine’s long locks to go flying in every direction. She looked a bit like Medusa right then, hair thrashing about like snakes, hypnotic jade eyes blazing, and just as she lifted the hood of her jacket over her head, the wind died down.

“Yeah, that just figures,” she muttered, as she put her hand inside the hood to smooth down her hair.

Jason’s phone buzzed in his pocket, the caller ID reading Thompson. He answered before the second ring. “Sir.”

“Just calling to check in with you, Garrett. I spoke with Kirkpatrick and went over the rundown on our end, and he gave me—”

“Ow, shit, motherfucker—”

A string of curses continued to fly from Katherine’s mouth, her arm caught in an awkward angle over her face. The bracelet on her wrist had hooked onto the jacket liner of her hood, and the more she tried to yank it free, the more it snagged.

Thompson’s voice turned apprehensive. “Is everything okay over there? Is that Katherine—”

“Yes, yes, she’s fine,” Jason said.

“She doesn’t sound fine.”

“Just a little…female issue.”

“Female issue…? Ohhhh. I see. Well, good luck with that. Talk later.” Thompson hung up swiftly, and Jason shook his head. Wimp.

Katherine stomped her foot as she continued to wrench her arm free, and he tried not to smirk at how ridiculous she looked.

I should just leave her like that, he thought in amusement.

“Are you gonna talk on the phone all night or are you gonna fucking help me sometime this century?”

“Do you really want me to answer that?” he asked.

“No, what I want right about now is a chainsaw to free myself and then stick up your ass.”

He shoved the phone back in his pocket. “Sounds like foreplay.”

She stopped struggling for a moment, and he tried not to notice the way her shirt had ridden up to display a few inches of her creamy skin. “Now the sense of humor comes out? Now?

Stepping forward, he grabbed her wrist with one hand and tried to get her bracelet free with the other, but it was lodged in tight. Her pulse beat rapidly under his thumb, and he stroked over it once before realizing what he’d done. A quiet gasp escaped Katherine’s lips.

“Hold still,” he murmured, tightening his grip. “It might hurt.”

With a quick snap, he ripped the hood away, a chunk of tattered material still clinging to the mangled jewelry. She pulled the bracelet off her arm and rubbed her wrist.

“Thanks,” she said, a bit breathless.

He nodded as he backed away, and she got the hint to keep moving and not mention it.

They walked together in silence, for once, until a cluster of buildings came into view, and Katherine directed them toward it. When he saw her look over at him from the corner of his eye, he braced himself for the next round of questioning he knew was coming.

“So…you never told me your first name,” she said.

“No, I didn’t.”

“Well, that’s rude. I thought we just had a moment there, Jason.”

He stopped in his tracks, and she burst out in victorious laughter.

How the hell did she know that?

“And you thought I was unobservant.” She wore a smug look on her face. “I may be a lot of things, ruiner of jackets included, but give me a little credit here.”

“Where did you hear that?”

She shrugged. “It was a hunch. I’d referred to you as Jason Statham when I was talking to Steven at my father’s house, and I noticed you flinched when I said it. So, either you get that comparison a lot, or it was an involuntary reaction to hearing your name and trying not to react. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.”

Well I’ll be damned. Not just a pretty face, are you?

“Oh,” she said then, taking a step back. “Oh, no. That’s not…a tiny sliver of respect I see in your eyes, is it?”

He grimaced. “No.”

“Thank God,” she said with mock relief as she climbed the stairs to the main doors and stopped just outside them. “I couldn’t take it if you actually liked me.”

He had nothing to say to that, too busy trying to see past the mask she wore that he’d only briefly thought about earlier. She was observant. I wonder what else she’s hiding…

She turned around. “Can I ask you something?”

“God knows you would anyway.”

The Katherine that faced him now wore a serious expression, with no trace of the sarcastic woman he’d had to deal with the past few days. She cocked her head to the side as she studied his face.

“Are you always this much of an asshole with your clients, or am I just lucky?”

Before he could summon an answer, she reached for the door handle but then pulled away so he could enter first. She stayed beside him as she walked them to her class, and he knew she didn’t expect a response. After getting her settled and taking position against the wall nearby, he entertained her question.

Two things he knew for sure: First, he was definitely an asshole. And second, under the current circumstances, he’d never refer to Katherine Shaw as lucky.

About the Author:

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas.

Flash Point is her debut solo novel, and she is the co-author of the erotic serial, A Desperate Man, with Ella Frank. The latter has scarred her conservative southern family for life, bless their hearts.

If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find – just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.

Naked Athlete

EXCERPT

I’m staring at Rafe’s hand. Big, strong, callused. A scar runs from his thumb to the index finger.
He’s looking at me, waiting.
So I lift my hand, place it in his. It fits on his palm, smaller, darker, thinner. He seems as entranced by the contrast as I am. His fingers curl, closing around mine. His lips part, but no sound comes from his mouth, and his gaze remains fixed on our entwined hands, pale lashes hiding the gold of his eyes.
Now I’m the one caught, transfixed. His mouth looks soft, vulnerable, at odds with his strong, angular features and the broad set of his shoulders. The need to touch his face is overwhelming, and I step closer, so close I can sense his scent. Not a cologne, but the deep scent of his skin, like musk and warm metal. I can see the rise and fall of his chest underneath the black Deathmoth T-shirt he’s wearing under his open jacket, see the outline of his strong pecs.
We’re standing so close our breaths mingle, and our bodies touch in places as we shift, feathery brushes that send fire across my skin, into my belly, making me ache. He places his hands on my waist and I grip his thick, sinewy forearms. My stomach drops as if I’m standing at the edge of a precipice, on the edge of a moment that can change everything.
What’s happening? It’s as if in the hollow darkness, the barrier between us is crumbling, the wall he’s set between himself and the world is falling.
His hands tighten on my hipbones and his lashes lift, his gaze moving to my mouth. His breathing is ragged. He tugs me against him, his fingertips digging painfully into my flesh, his arms flexing with barely controlled strength.
His arousal presses into my stomach, hot and thick, caught sideways in his jeans.
My mind fills up with static. Rafe wants me. There’s the solid proof of his desire. The heated gaze I’ve felt so often on me is translated into a physical reaction, and it makes me feel so hot I might burst into flames. He’s so handsome, I can’t help myself. I want to stroke his square jaw, drag my fingertips over the golden stubble on his cheeks, kiss those damnable dimples.

K. Langston FYM HTML Synopsis

Cannon & Cora’s Story

Cannon Jacobs has a past he wants to forget. The former Navy SEAL has seen his fair share of death and despair, and he would love nothing more than to escape the hell that tortures him. But no matter how hard he tries, Cannon has never been able to quiet the angry demons inside of his head.

Then he met her.

Cora Daniels’ life has never been pretty. Actually, it’s been downright ugly at times. But when you come from the trailer park, and your mother’s reputation is nothing more than a stain on your name, it makes it hard to believe you’ll ever find true happiness. Yet, Cora lives with the hope that someday, she’ll find the love she deserves.

The real kind.

Sometimes the love you find is not the kind you hoped for.
Sometimes…it’s more.

You never know when love will come along and change…everything.
