BLP REVIEW – Tracy

Stacey Lynn is a new to me author but one who’s back list I will definitely be checking out!

Dirty Player was a hot, sexy and fun read. I really liked both Oliver and Shannon.

Oliver was arrogant and very confident – given his reputation and success you could get why he was like that – but was also extremely caring and protective of Shannon once they were together. Shannon was feisty, determined, loyal and a lot of fun. She’d given up a lot to help her brother Beaux achieve his dream of being a professional football player. Both had trust issues – both completely understandable – so they had some common ground to start with.
Neither thinking the other was what they were looking for, their initial getting together was only supposed to be short term… but the longer they spent in each others company and the more they got to know each other (in and out of bed!!), ending things when they were just starting was never gonna be on the cards.

There were some great supporting characters that were likeable, relatable and fun and I would love to find out more about them. The exes, gods, if I could have reached into my kindle and throat punched them, I would have done it, both were horrible folk!

Well written, with a fantastic epilogue, Dirty Player was a really great, engaging read that I would definitely recommend and I rate 4*.

In the corner of my eye I spotted something behind Terry. There was a man. A man walking by. He looked just like me. It was like looking in a mirror, and my mind struggled to comprehend how this could be possible. He glanced at me before scurrying off into the stairwell. I stood up in a daze and walked to the corridor. Terry protested, but I just ignored him. I reached the empty stairwell perplexed.

Feeling inexplicably drawn to the man, I ran out into the stairwell. I felt like I had to find out why he looked just like me; was this some sort of bizarre prank? The man was gone. I looked down the middle of the staircase, but he wasn’t there. I sprinted up the stairs toward the roof, leaving Terry floundering in the stairwell entrance, unsure what to do. My footsteps thudded as I paced upward, anticipating what could be happening, but when I threw open the roof door, I found the roof to be empty. There was no way the man could have gone anywhere else, but he simply wasn’t there. Terry caught up to me. “You…okay there, man?” he said, panting. He wasn’t the most interesting man I knew; however, he was kind, which meant he was decent friend material, not to say I wouldn’t ditch him if someone else swooped into my desolate life. I was confused. I was sure I had seen someone a moment ago, but no one was out on the roof. I gave a nervous laugh, scratching at my palm. “I thought I saw something.” Giving him a meek look, I returned to the stairwell. Maybe I was just tired and seeing things. Could have I fallen asleep for a moment and dreamed it? It’s hard to determine a dream from reality; in a dream everything seems to make sense, only upon waking do you realize the absurdity of it all.

Native to the UK, I was born in the Garden of England in the early 90s.

I was creative from a young age, always wrapped up in my own world and fantasies. I was a big reader from a young age, reading Les Miserables and Lord of the Rings while I was still in primary school.

I was fortunate enough to be able to travel a lot in my youth, from Hong Kong to Houston I experienced the world and gained a greater perspective of the world outside my small woodland village I grew up in.

In secondary school I was told I was too cynical to be a writer and was put off writing for many years.

Instead I pursued a degree in Physical Geography, gaining my Masters degree in late 2015.

University gave me time to really discover myself as a person. Allowing me to pursue my passions and dreams to their fullest. I want to share my stories and ideas with the world. As a child I hungrily devoured fiction and now I will help feed the minds of others.

Inarticulate Excerpt

This is an excerpt from Inarticulate (a standalone contemporary romance) when the two protagonists first meet.

She swung around to the house to hide her smile and bounced up the three stairs toward the front door. Movement nudged her periphery and she slowed, taking in the sight of a man standing in the shadows at the far end of the porch. His hip was cocked against the bannister, his eyes hooded.
Her concentration latched on to him, unmoving as the world around her dulled to a faint hum in her mind. She wasn’t sure what intrigued her. It could be his narrowed stare, the way he didn’t greet her with warmth or kindness. Only sterile appraisal. Or maybe it was the package his arrogance came in—the tense expression, stubbled jaw, and lush lips pressed in a tight line.
Her tongue tingled. Mouth salivated. She would’ve liked to think it was due to the heavenly aroma of her aunt’s cooking drifting in the air. Would’ve liked to…but what was a load of bull.
“Hi.” She gave him a friendly finger wave as Dominic came up behind her.
The man continued to stare, his face still unwelcoming in the shadows.
“Keenan, don’t be a prick.” Dominic tugged on her arm, stealing her attention. “Come on. I’ll introduce you later.”
She kept her focus on the stranger, their gazes entwined, hers soft and inquisitive, his harsh and fierce, as her cousin dragged her inside, the door
slamming shut behind them. “Who was—”
“Oh, my sweet Savannah!” Aunt Michelle hustled up the hall, wiping her hands on an old apron tied around her waist. “It’s so good to see you.”
The familiar face held more wrinkles than Savannah remembered, her aunt’s long blonde hair now gray and thinning. But the beautiful blue eyes were still the same—loving and gentle.
“It’s good to see you, too.” She ignored the strangers poking their heads into the hall from different doorways and fell into a comforting embrace. “Thank you for the dinner invitation.”
“Oh, please,” her aunt chastised. “You don’t need an invitation. Come around any time.”
There was a whirlwind of introductions. Her aunt took position on her right, gushing with affection and compliments, while Dominic remained on her left, muttering snide comments that threatened to make her laugh.
A timer dinged from the kitchen, a welcome reprieve as her aunt excused herself and left Savannah to take a breath. There had to be twenty people crammed into the small house. All of them smiling and friendly, unlike the man outside who still lingered in her thoughts.
“You want a drink?” Dominic nudged her elbow.
Hell yes. “Please.” She followed him to the back of the house, into the laundry, and toward a fridge stocked full of beer, wine, and pre-mixed drinks.
“Help yourself.”
He held the door open while she grabbed a small bottle of something red and no doubt comatosingly sweet. “Thanks.”
“I’m gonna hit the bathroom.” He closed the fridge door and looked at her in concern. “Can you survive for a few minutes without me?”
“I guess I’ll have to. I’m not going to follow you to the toilet.”
Obviously,” he drawled. “You gave up that opportunity when we were eight.”
“Twelve.”
“Ten.” He chuckled and walked from the room, leaving her alone with the hovering threat of chatter from the other end of the house.
It was time to go incognito. She didn’t have the energy to smile at strangers. Alcohol would help, but for now, she needed cool fresh air…and maybe another glimpse at the menacing eyes of the man she’d met on the porch.
She shoved the bottle into her coat pocket and sauntered down the hall, measuring her steps to lessen the clap of her heels. She reached the front door without notice and pulled it open, slipping into the darkness of twilight without a word.
The man was still at the end of the porch, a beer bottle now visible in his hand as he leaned over, resting his elbows on the bannister. He didn’t acknowledge her presence. She supposed a man with arrogance ebbing off him in waves didn’t have to. His dismissal gave her the opportunity to appreciate his ass stretched in well-worn jeans and the perfection of how his black jacket rested at his hips to give her an unhindered view.
“Hi,” she offered for a second time.
He didn’t move, didn’t even spare her a glance as she approached the bannister. He continued staring straight ahead as he lifted the beer bottle to his lips and took a long pull.
“It’s a lovely night for a family dinner.” Was he a distant relative? God, she hoped not, otherwise Dominic’s inbred tendencies were rubbing off on her.
He replied with a jut of his chin. A jut of his God. Damn. Chin.
What an asshole. And wasn’t she just the stupidest set of ovaries to walk the earth, because it only made her itch to push his blatant need for solitude, to poke at him with questions until he acknowledged her with the respect she deserved. The respect any human deserved.
“So… you like beer…” she drawled, glib as hell.
The corner of his mouth twitched as he continued to focus on the street. But still, no answer.
She could smell him, could practically taste his delicious aftershave on her tongue with each inhalation. He was a taunt to all her senses…well, except her ears because the pretentious ass wouldn’t say a word.
He took another swig from his bottle and straightened to face her. She could see his eyes now, the steely silver, almost blue, that made her shiver with their ferocity. He was tall, too. At least an inch above her even with her heels.
She pulled the pre-mix bottle from her jacket pocket and twisted the lid to keep her hands busy. She could see two outcomes eventuating. Either he would smile, knocking her off her feet with the brilliance of his appeal. Or he was going to pull a gun from the inside of his jacket and blow her brains out.
Player or gangster. He could totally pull off both.
“I’m usually a wine drinker myself.” She raised the bottle of bubbly red liquid in her hand, slowly tilting it to her mouth. She took a sip, licked the alcohol from her lips in a deliberately seductive provocation, then lowered the bottle again.
Still, he gave her nothing. Noth-ing. He was the most accomplished jerk she’d ever come across, and yet she still couldn’t ditch the intrigue and walk away. Without a word, he had her tied around his little finger, begging for attention.
“I like your jeans.” She ogled his crotch, wanting to return the discomfort of how humiliating this one-sided conversation was becoming. “They’re snug.”
His lips quirked, giving her a glimpse of straight white teeth. Asshole. Asshole. Ass-hole! He was gorgeous, the faintest hint of humor turning his dangerous eyes playful. She lifted the bottle to her mouth again, this time ignoring any pretense of seduction as she gulped at the liquid.
“Are you always this charm—”
The front door creaked open and she turned to find Dominic eying them both skeptically. “What’s going on?”
She smiled, the biggest, fakest smile she had in her arsenal. “I’m having an in-depth conversation with this lovely gentleman.”
“Really?” Dominic frowned, his brows pulling deeper with every passing second.
“Yep.” There was gushing amounts of sarcasm in her tone. “First we conversed about our drinking habits, then fashion. I was about to bring up the topic of politics and world peace when you rudely interrupted.”
She glanced at the man in the corner, an arrogant smirk now curving those sensuous lips. He wasn’t the only one capable of being a jerk.

“Well, that’s strange…” Dominic came closer. “Because Keenan doesn’t talk.”

Suddenly, he turns down an unfamiliar street and parks on the side. “I’ve gotta pick this up for her, do you need anything?”
“A shot of anything would be great.”
He touches my cheek with the back of his knuckles, igniting my insides. I never thought I’d like his hands on me…but after tonight, I really do. He gets out of the car and I rest my head back, watching him walk into the old-fashioned pharmacy, dressed in gray shorts and a white t-shirt. He really is hot, so fucking sexy.
Looking out the window, I think back to tonight and sitting on that rock in his arms – it was so nice. For the first time in years, I had someone to turn to when I was in pain. It wasn’t everyone depending on me. He was there for me and comforted me and didn’t expect me to get over it because it’s been almost six years. It’s sad how quick-forgetting some people are when it comes to grief. After losing my mom, everyone I was close to didn’t have the patience for me. I can sense the people I work with are that way too – when I have a bad day, they don’t get it. It’s not like that with my dad…but we hide our pain from one another to try to help each other move on. But being with King tonight was different. It was nice to be myself and let my emotions go where they needed.
He comes walking out of the store carrying two bags, and there I go undressing him with my eyes. His cock bulge is straining his shorts and I shake the thought away. What is wrong with me? A few days ago, I detested him, and now…I’m looking at his dick.
He slides in the car and hands me a bag. “I didn’t know what you liked, so I got one of everything.”
I look inside and there is an array of tiny liquor bottles. Every kind you could think of. “You know I was joking, right?”
“Were you?” he starts the car and pulls away, dead serious.
            “Yes.”
“You’ve gotta stop doing that to me…”

A muscle twitched in his bicep; otherwise he was still. “You don’t owe me anything.”

“No. But I’d like to.”

“What am I supposed to do with that?” He laced his fingers together on the top of his head. His features were impassive, intimidating as hell. “I decked one of my teammates in anger. Doesn’t that concern you?”

“All you did was split his lip.” The day before, he’d taken Wade out with one hit. “You pulled your punch.”

“That should still concern you.”

“It’s between you and Stills.”

“He’s got a hard face. He’ll live.”

“My point exactly. How about you?” Because the guilt hadn’t left his eyes the whole time they’d talked.

Shallow breaths moved his chest. “Why are you here?”

The coronary that had threatened since she was a kid was about to be realized. The words stalled in her throat, but if he could expose himself, his anger issues and the concerns behind them, she could speak the truth. Crap. Her heart nearly seized. “I want you to sleep in my bed.” She stepped forward and ran a finger down the midline, feeling the muscles twitch. It was quite possible she’d die before he answered. “And I don’t want to snuggle.”

Excerpt

Her hands tangled in my hair, pulling me closer to her. I made a noise of surprise—she almost attacked me. She was desperate for it, for me. There was something about that, something hot. She needed me. I would give her exactly what she needed.
I hated myself for giving in so easy, even as I kissed my way down her body. She moaned, and didn’t stop me when I peeled away the sheets. The sight of her, all of her, had me hard in no time. I had to be inside her. I had to be. She had to open herself to me.
I ran a hand down her body, skimming her curves, taking her in. The narrow waist. The round hips. The firm thigh and calf. Then up again. My fingers caressed her, drawing sighs from deep in her throat.
“Yes,” I whispered. “Let me make you feel good.”
She whimpered then, visibly relaxed. I had her where I wanted her, and the thought made my cock throb again.

BLP REVIEW ~ TRACY

This is the first book from Tia Lewis, and while the characters were a bit younger than others I’ve read lately, I really enjoyed the story.

I liked that there was more to Jake and he wasn’t just your atypical college jock, even though that’s how he initially came across. To an extent he didn’t ‘fit in’ when it came to the rest of his team mates but from the outside you’d think he was exactly like them.
Claire hung with the geeky group and had preconceived ideas of the kind of guy Jake was when she signed up to tutor him – not helped by the fact that she hated footballers.
She was smart, studious and hard working, he was football mad, not too interested in studying and focusing on his grades and you’d never think this pair would get along.

When the tutoring starts they definitely don’t hit it off right away, they snark and argue back and forth pretty much every time they are together but as they start to spend time together you begin to see a different side to both characters and they begin to connect – in fact, after a while they connect really well!!!

Outside factors in the shape of family and friends and things that happened in the past give you insight into what has shaped both Jake and Claire. Initially, both main characters were quite unkind in what was thought and said before they got to know each other – it has to be said that their friends were worse, to the point it seemed quite cruel on occasion, even though we discover that there are possibly other reasons for the negativity and dislike….
I really enjoy a dual POV and finding out what makes each character tick…. Through the story both Jake and Claire develop and they begin to look at the other in a different light.

I liked Jake’s coach and how he, along with Claire after a while, knew there was more to Jake than he believed and that they cared enough to make him see it for himself.

I would have liked an epilogue to see how things worked but that’s my only issue to be honest.
A well written, enjoyable story (when I didn’t want to smack one or three of the characters!!) I’m looking forward to reading more books from Tia soon.

Title: THE DARKEST LINK

Series: Second Circle Tattoos #4

Author: Scarlett Cole

Darkest Link Cover

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Pub. Date: August 30, 2016

Synopsis:

When her car breaks down off the side of a lonely highway far from her sunny Miami home, tattoo artist Lia never expected her very own white knight to ride up on the back of a barely street-legal motorcycle…and she never expected to fall for her dark savior. After a string of failed relationships and a bruised heart Lia is not looking for forever, and the hot mechanic, with his sexy scruff and shaggy hair, is simply impossible to resist. He’s the perfect candidate for a mind-blowingly-perfect, no-strings-attached one-night stand.

Reid left his life in Chicago far behind him and hasn’t been back, but he’s never been able to escape the guilt he feels about his own painful role in inviting a monster into his baby sister’s life. A monster who almost destroyed her. Being with Lia is an unexpected gift, one he doesn’t feel he deserves, and their one night together has him wanting more than he should. When he surprises her at her tattoo studio, Second Circle Tattoos, in Miami, he’s in for a shock—and a fist to the face—when his past and present collide.

With secrets coming to the surface, Reid and Lia are thrown into a world of betrayal and lies that threatens to pull them under, and the last link to his former life may be the darkest of them all.

“What is this?” she asked, running her hand over the elongated hood.

“A 1958 Ford Thunderbird. It was a shell when I bought it. Was found in an unused barn with a bunch of other old classics.”

The wheels were black with white faces, and the soft top was a creamy white. Reflections from the chrome cast light onto the white walls.

“I love it,” she said, excited to sit inside.

“Hood up or down?” Kenny asked, slipping her cases into the trunk.

“Oh, most definitely down,” Lia said. Screw the victory rolls, she could always put her hair into a high ponytail and add the red ribbon she had in her purse if her scarf failed. She reached into her bag to find it and tied it around her head.

“I like this,” Kenny said, fingering the knot under her chin gently. The way his eyes crinkled at the corners made her feel all kinds of gooey inside. Perhaps it was a good thing they lived a long drive away from each other. His very presence made it difficult to remember why she was taking some time off from men. But a little harmless flirtation was adding to the adventure of a few days off work. There couldn’t be any harm in that.

Once inside the car, Kenny took her hotel details and plugged them into his phone. “There are few downsides to the classics, but lack of sat-nav has to be one,” he said, turning the radio on. “Ready?”

“I feel like Thelma and Louise about to drive over the edge of the cliff,” she said with a laugh.

“Close. That was a 1966 Ford Thunderbird, eight years younger than this baby. Does that make me J.D.?”

“That depends. Are you planning on driving me to a motel, having your wicked way with me on the dresser, then stealing my life savings?”

“I know a motel, don’t know if they have a dresser, but more than willing to do a drive-by to find out.”

Lia laughed. “I was joking.”

“I wasn’t. Say the word, Red.”

He revved the engine several times, the low growl sexy as all hell, and grinned as he roared out onto the street. Lia watched his hand as he shifted the stick. He caressed the gear stick. The more she stared, the more turned on she became until she had to cross her legs and look out of the window.

Damn him for getting her so hot and bothered. She spared a glance back toward him, just as he turned to face her. And he winked. Because he knew.

And that just turned her on even more.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Naima Simone

Naima Simone’s
love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey, Sandra Brown and Linda Howard many years ago. Well not that many. She is only eighteen…ish. Though her first attempt at a romance novel starring Ralph Tresvant from New Edition never saw the light of day, her love of romance, reading and writing has endured. Published since 2009, she spends her days—and nights— creating stories of unique men and women who experience the first bites of desire, the dizzying heights of passion, and the tender, healing heat of love.

She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.
