Blurb:

My life has always been pretty predictable. Run into burning buildings, save those in distress, be a hero. Shoot the shit with my fireman buddies, come home, and do it all again tomorrow. Little did I know that a random SOS call from a woman stuck in a plaster cast with nothing underneath (I swear I only caught a flash of skin) would throw me for a complete loop.

Until I see the flighty artist again. At my mom’s engagement party. To her dad.

Suddenly the unpredictable woman I couldn’t stop thinking about is my soon-to-be-stepsister. Yeah, the same one I mortified when I accidentally saw her a tiny bit naked. This should make family gatherings way more interesting.

Except when your mom’s as loaded as mine is, you can never fully let your guard down when a guy comes sniffing around. So I can’t help but be suspicious, even though his daughter’s the perfect blend of beautiful and wild. As we spend more time together, prepping for our parents’ wedding, we both agree that maybe there’s nothing wrong with having a little bit of fun in the meantime. But if she knew I was investigating her dad on the side, she would never forgive me…

Excerpt:

“Mind if I use your restroom before we dive into planning?” He asked once he closed the dishwasher back up.

She quickly adverted his gaze, hoping he hadn’t caught her shamefully staring at his backside. “Of course, it’s down the hall on the left.”

Tamsen grabbed the notebook with the few ideas she’d started to write down for the party and sat at the table going over the notes she’d made. After a few minutes, she glanced up and checked the clock on the stove. Parker had been in the bathroom a while. She hoped she didn’t mix up some ingredient in the casserole and give him stomach problems. She didn’t have as many cooking disasters stories as she did art project stories, but there had been a few. The salt instead of sugar incident of 2013, last year’s baking soda disaster cupcake fail, and the expired milk episode on her father’s sixtieth birthday. That one still haunted her.

Wanting to check and make sure everything was okay—at this rate she would need to change her name and move to some remote island to avoid further embarrassing herself in front of this man—Tamsen hurried down the hall to check on Parker.

But he wasn’t in the bathroom.

The only bathroom in the apartment was empty, the light off. As she made her way down the hall, she was surprised to see Parker standing in the doorway of her room staring intently at the sketches and easel set up in the corner by the large window. It got the best light in the apartment, so it’s where she did most of her drawing and painting.

She cleared her throat loudly, gaining some satisfaction form the small jump in the corded muscles of Parker’s back. He turned with a sheepish grin.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to snoop.”

She raised one eyebrow.

“Okay, I did. I saw a light on and…” he waved an arm, encompassing her art. “Tamsen, these are amazing.”

Her cheeks heated, warmth and pride filling her at his compliment. “Thank you.”

“I’m not an art aficionado, but these are…powerful.” He stared at the drawings again. “I don’t know if that makes sense, it’s just the word that pops into my head as I look at them.”

“Whatever emotion you feel is the goal,” she answered, coming to stand beside him. “That’s the beauty of art. It’s interpretive. The artist may create one thing, but it truly comes to life in the observed. Whatever it makes you feel, it’s right.”

“Are these all for that human body project you were talking about?”

“Some of them.”

They were all sketches of the human body. Some drawn from life, some from pictures, others she created in her head.

“Life drawing is one of the first things they teach you in art school, but I’ve always been drawn to the complexity of the human form. How different we all are. How similar. The curves and angles, big and small. Each body catering to the soul inside it. I love capturing that soul on paper. Every subject brings new insight. I…I’d love to draw you sometime.”

She sucked in a sharp breath. Her mouth had started to ramble again. Running away without her brain. Why had she said that? Yes, she did want to draw Parker, but that didn’t mean she had to tell him about it. She certainly wasn’t going to tell him about all the naughty dreams she’d been having involving him or the sketches she’d already drawn of him…

The heat of his body enveloped her as he moved in closer. She felt the brush of his lips against her ear. A shiver of pleasure running up her spine as his warm breath tickled the hairs on the back of her neck as he spoke.

“You want to draw me? How about in the buff? That can be arranged.”

When former Navy SEAL West Donovan trades high-stakes missions for the calm of the police department in sleepy Bluelick, Kentucky, he craves peace, quiet, and order. Catching sexy, law-bending Hitchiker Barbie by the roadside in the middle of a rainstorm—literally, she passes out in his arms—raises his chaos quotient into the red zone and leaves him determined to quantify this particular tumbleweed of trouble and send her rolling along her merry way ASAP.

Aspiring singer/songwriter Roxy Goodhart ventures to Bluelick to outrun her latest mistake. It’s a doozy involving a lying ex-manager, a dire lack of funds, and a teensy bit of grand larceny. Landing in the long, strong arms of the local law—a/k/a Officer Donovan—is no way to keep a low profile while she re-builds her ‘L.A. or bust’ fund. Accepting a temporary job that turns out to put her in West’s path every dang day also doesn’t help. Worst of all, the longer she sticks around, the more she wants to stay in West’s arms…forever.

EXCERPT

“You’re good.” Now he turned, and she found herself the recipient of his undivided attention. “Really good.”

Oh damn. A compliment, from him, directed right to her softest, most vulnerable underbelly. “You think?”

“Yeah. Your voice is very”—he faced front, rubbed the back of his neck, and sent a sheepish smile to the night—“evocative. The two-tone hair? The NASCAR flag girl wardrobe? They’re just distractions, Roxy. You don’t need them. You’re never going to be run-of-the-mill. Not with your talent.”

West wouldn’t stroke her ego. He had nothing to gain from praising her, which might explain why his words put hazardous cracks in the defenses she’d scrambled to build where he was concerned. Singers, musicians, even songwriters, were a dime a dozen. Did she have anything unique to offer? Was she special? Did she possess the kind of innate gifts—not to mention the smarts—required to live up to the hopes and dreams her parents had held for her? The last few years had sown some serious doubts. Particularly in the smarts department.

Asking the questions out loud handed him way too much power, like paving him a shortcut to her weakest points. She defaulted to what would either push him away or lure him in under terms she could handle. At least, she hoped she could.

She undid her seat belt and leaned close enough to rest her breasts against his arm. He tensed, and the leashed strength in the reaction sent her pulse racing. “My voice isn’t the only talent I could bring to your bedroom.”

His breath stalled and then shuddered out slowly, as if the air around them weighed more than normal. She pushed herself up on one knee and ran her tongue along his locked jaw. A night at Rawley’s left traces on a man—hints of smoke and cocktail waitress layered over the straightforward scent of bar soap she found stupidly enthralling. The combination stirred her senses and sent a flood of salt to the back of her mouth.

The groan that vibrated through his chest was all the encouragement she needed. Lightheaded and ravenous for more, she climbed over the console, straddled his hips, and dropped onto his lap. A thick ridge prodded the V of her thighs, melting her from the inside. This time the groan came from her. “Or here,” she panted, going full steam ahead on a fuel of lust and bravado. “I could show you all my talents right here.”

His hands were everywhere, spanning her waist, squeezing her thighs, and then gripping her hips to drag her closer, grinding her softest parts against parts of him so astoundingly hard the contact alone wrung a moan of appreciation from her. The urgency in his response sent heat flooding between her legs, and she wondered if he felt her go damp through the layers of their clothes.

Big hands sank into the gap at the back of her shorts and palmed her bare skin.

“Christ, I knew it. Traipsing around tonight in shorts one tug away from dropping around your ankles and not a stitch on underneath. Every time you moved all I could concentrate on was this. Squeezing it. Eating it. Owning it.”

SYNOPSIS

The only thing tempering their insta-hate is delicious attraction.

Sunny chocolatier Charlotte Beecher is unemployed, in student debt, and on the verge of hawking her beloved copper pots just to make ends meet. So when a gourmet chocolate factory chooses her as one of five candidates to help re-launch the company in their Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired competition, Charlotte begins to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Fellow contestant Luke Wells complicates her plans to win by a landslide with his flow charts and marketing projections. Mr. Tall, Dark, and Haughty is all about the bottom line and is as bitter as she is sweet. And when he snubs Charlotte in the first challenge, misunderstanding or not, she transforms from cream puff to jawbreaker. Bring. It. On.

But when these two rivals find themselves distracted by delicious attraction, will they let their passion get in the way of winning the competition?

EXCERPT

The soft click of the key card in the front door sounded. Luke straightened from the island as the door opened. The soft glow from the undercabinet lights illuminated Charlotte, frozen in the doorway as she stared at him with wide eyes.
She wore high heels, tight jeans, and a fitted jacket over a low-cut top. She was, in a word, gorgeous.
Luke forced himself to blink.
“Um, hi,” she finally said, pulling her key card out of the lock without taking her eyes off him.
“Hello.” He kept his feet rooted to the spot.
Charlotte slowly walked into the kitchen area. Her unblinking gaze roamed over his bare chest and abdomen.
Luke’s skin felt hot, as if her stare was actually touching him.
“Did you have a good day?” he asked, trying to sound normal. Normal? Ha. He could barely manage normal on a typical day, let alone late at night when he was half-naked and the woman who’d caught his attention was looking delicious enough to eat.
She walked closer, her eyes still roaming across him. She was like a surveyor, mapping the contours and terrain of his muscles and sinews and flesh with precision. With focus. With intensity.
“I had a pretty relaxing day myself,” he said, filling the silence as he fidgeted with his ice-cream spoon.
She set her purse on the counter next to his bowl and stepped closer. Now only a foot separated them.
She was so short that he could see straight down the low-cut neckline of her shirt. He tried to look away. After all, he wasn’t a perv trying to sneak a peek, but his gaze returned to the tempting curves and shadows of her cleavage nonetheless.
Willpower, thy name is enemy.
Charlotte finally looked up at him. Her eyes seemed to glow in the soft, muted light.
“Charlotte, I just wanted to say again how sor—”
She covered his mouth with her fingers and shook her head. “I don’t want to talk about that.”
He spoke against the light pressure of her touch. “But— ”
She arched an eyebrow.
He stopped.
Her lips tipped up at the corner as she scanned him once more. She seemed to relish the sight of his bare feet and plaid pajama bottoms hanging low on his hips, as well as the half-eaten bowl of ice cream on the island counter beside him.
She kept one hand on his mouth, and with the other, she plucked the spoon out of his nerveless fingers. Scooping up a small mound of ice cream, she slid the spoon between her lips and slowly pulled it out. Her tongue darted to her lower lip to capture a drop of the melted dessert. Charlotte closed her eyes and hummed as she swallowed the bite.
“I’ve been thinking.” She set the spoon back into the bowl on the counter with a clink and took a half step closer.
The air between them grew hot. Or there wasn’t enough air. Or something else involving air was happening because Luke’s lungs suddenly felt like they needed more oxygen than was available.
He opened his mouth to question her, but she traced her fingertips lightly over his bottom lip. Luke forgot what he’d meant to say. He forgot the year, his name, and even how words worked.
“Luke,” Charlotte whispered. Her face was luminous. Her scent, vanilla and flowers and a hint of chocolate, teased his nose. Her lips were pink and gorgeous and inviting.
He nodded, and her fingers dragged across his mouth with the slight movement. He wanted to close his eyes and take her finger into his mouth and swirl his tongue around it and groan, but he did none of those things. Yesterday, he’d hurt her. He needed to treat her with respect. He needed to tread lightly. He needed to—
“Kiss me,” she whispered.
Luke swooped down, capturing her mouth with his.

EXCERPT:

“Oh no, you don’t,” Bastion said with a snarl, lunging for her.

She didn’t cry out when his huge hand engulfed her ankle and hauled her all too easily toward him. Instead, she drew on all her training and relaxed her muscles. She only wished she had a knife to throw. She’d practiced that skill relentlessly in her law enforcement training.

She hid a grim smile. Let the bastard imagine she was a weakling. It was only after he’d dragged her free that she bent her other leg and struck out hard with her boot.

The spiked heel slashed Bastion’s face, carving across his jaw right to the top of his bristled cheek. Blood gushed and he released her with a roar, his dark queue swinging.

She hoped the pain would distract him long enough for her to get away.

It didn’t.

She scrabbled back under the machinery, but before she’d gotten even halfway, he reached for her again, grabbing her upper arm. Her breath hissed at his brutal grip, and it took all her willpower not to claw at his hand but instead clutch at the pencil tucked in her hair.

He yanked her toward him, too enraged to realize she’d lifted the pencil until she punched down and stabbed it into his hand, piercing the sharp point all the way through to his palm. He bared his teeth at her, and her throat closed up at his cold, hard eyes with their promised glitter of retribution.

He let her go to jerk the pencil free. More blood sprayed as he fisted his hands.

Shit. She pushed to her feet and as he swung at her she dove through the air. Too late. His fist connected with her cheek, snapping back her head before she hit the ground hard.

Air whooshed from her lungs. Her ears rang, and sticky warmth trickled from her nose. She fought to stay conscious and bring her blurred vision back into focus. Damn it all to hell! She should have anticipated the violent backhand, should have tried to block it instead of avoiding it.

But though dizziness pressed on her skull, she became aware she was no longer alone with the sadistic alien. Damon had arrived. Every cell within her tingled at his presence, even before the thump of fists on flesh reverberated in the air.

She rolled over, blinking back another round of dizziness. Pain bloomed from her cheek outward, where Bastion’s backhand had almost taken her head from her shoulders.

The two huge hunters fought with a rage that was palpable, Damon attacking Bastion with a strength and skill that was incredible to behold. Neither of the men were holding back.

Damon spun and lashed out, kicking the other hunter high in the throat—Bastion’s one vulnerable point. But though Bastion staggered back, he quickly recovered and flew at Damon with a snarl of rage, throwing his huge fists relentlessly at the other hunter. She winced when more than a couple of punches made contact with Damon’s torso. Holy shit. Just one of those hits would knock an ordinary mortal to the ground.

But Damon fought back, giving as good as he got. Though Bastion was taller and heavier, Damon was faster, more skilled. Hard to believe he was the underdog.

SYNOPSIS

From the moment Julie sees her best friend, Gavin, in the airport, it’s like no time at all has gone by instead of months and months. No matter how long they’ve been apart, their relationship has always been steady, comfortable, and decidedly just friends. Even though their meddling parents have hung what seems like unlimited amounts of mistletoe everywhere she goes this holiday season, Julie knows some things will never change.

Gavin is well-aware his family’s wanted him and Julie to get together since forever, even though he’s been friend-zoned since they could talk—and he’s been happy to play that role. After all, as the new starting quarterback for the San Antonio Mustangs, he’s got enough on his plate without adding romance to the mix.

But between playing elves in the holiday bazaar to nights spent one-on-one watching rom-coms or soaking in their town’s hot springs, suddenly the “reverse parent trap” they’ve fallen into is actually starting to work. But this could be one scheme where letting themselves get trapped might be way too dangerous.

Each book in the Heart in the Game series is STANDALONE:

* The Wedding Deal

* The Mistletoe Trap

EXCERPT

Gavin planted her a hot, open mouth kiss on her lips before lavishing attention on her breasts. Pleasure corkscrewed up her core as he flicked one of her nipples with the tip of his tongue. Her back automatically arched off the bed, chasing the high and ready for another hit.

As he moved to her other breast, his breaths sawed in and out of his mouth, dampening her skin, and she huffed and puffed along with him as the amount of air left in her lungs neared zero.

Not important her body screamed as she rubbed herself against him, rolling her hips over and over until her heart hammered tachycardia fast. She lifted two fingers to her neck and felt the same rapid, thready rhythm. “Dude, if I were hooked up to a heart monitor right now, it’d be beeping like crazy.”

“Oh yeah?” he asked, painting the question onto her skin with his tongue.

“Uh-huh. And in a minute or two, I’m going to beep you like crazy.”

His laugh vibrated across her skin, and she mentally smacked her forehead. At long last she was jumping into bed with a man she instinctually knew could provide the rapturous time she’d craved between the sheets, and she couldn’t stop running it with her jokes and running commentary. “Can we pretend I didn’t make that cheesy joke?”

Gavin lifted himself enough to look into her eyes. He swept her hair off her face and ran his thumb over her lower lip until she’d nearly forgotten about her inquiry. “No way. I’m going to hold onto that one forever. Maybe even see if my teammates will pick it up. No more F-bombs. Just lots of beep this and beep that.”

 And beep you,” she said.

“I certainly hope so,” he said with a laugh, and she giggled along.

“How’d I find a guy for my Great Fling Experiment who doesn’t consider my sense of humor a mood ruiner?” A rhetorical question, one she answered aloud anyway. “Oh yeah. I chose the one person already accustomed to my particular brand of weird.”

Gavin’s stubble tickled the top of her abdomen as he began kissing his way lower, and lower, and lower…

“It’s a real hardship,” he murmured as he dipped his tongue into her bellybutton. “But I’m conditioned to persevere.”

* The Wedding Deal

* The Mistletoe Trap

Excerpt

The rapid rise and fall of her chest as her breath quickened wasn’t helping his tactical skills. After a couple of seconds, she picked out a single M&M and demanded him to open up. Expecting a trap, his muscles coiled, ready to spring, but he did as instructed.

After firing—and landing—one in his mouth, she tossed the rest into hers and crunched on the candies. “Between the marshmallows and M&Ms, I think we’re safe.”

Interesting. He felt anything but safe right now. He closed the gap between them with one long stride and arched an eyebrow. “Is that your way of calling a truce?”

She nodded. “Truce.” Her chin lifted a couple more inches so she could peer at his face, keying him in to the fact that he was looming over her. Surprising how all that attitude, humor, kindness, and scientific knowledge could be packed into such a tiny body.

A short, curvy body that kept causing his pulse to thunder and his common sense to go on a vacation of its own. Had time halted or was this one of those moments of clarity that held enough weight to draw it out longer?

His gaze dipped to her lips. Whoever was in control of his body lifted his arm. He pressed his thumb to the corner of her mouth and used it to wipe away the frosting that’d stuck there.

“Oh jeez.” Her tongue darted out, swiping that same spot he’d touched, and he just stood there, unable to move. “Pretty sure that’s evidence enough that I fail at being sexy. And maybe I have to accept that’s just not one of my sides or whatever. But come on, I’m hardly boring.”

Her eyes sought his, as if she needed confirmation.

On impulse, he lifted his thumb to his own mouth and sucked it clean of the frosting.

Sugary-sweet, just like her.

Her lips parted with a ragged breath, and regardless of the fuzziness that’d invaded his entire body, he needed to say something—without giving away too much.

“I’ve never been bored with you, that’s for sure.” He swallowed, hard. “As for that other part, I think we have some sexy pills around here somewhere. One bite and the spell some asshole put on you to make you think something so foolish will be broken.”

Blindly he reached back, aiming for the bowls of candy. Only his hand found frosting instead. “Damn it,” he muttered, shaking off bits of the green goop that looked remarkably like the face mask Julie had forced upon him the other night. So much for his smooth delivery. “That was supposed to go differently. The point is, it’s all in your head, babe. You’re really sexy. Just trust me on that.”

For several seconds, he didn’t think she would respond. Was she even breathing? Blinking? Had the poisonous mistletoe cookies kicked in?

The silence was nearing frantic territory when her eyes flicked to the green frosting on his fingertips. He was about to wipe the mess on his pants, but then her fingers circled his wrist. She lifted his arm and studied his hand like she’d never seen one before.

Another inch higher, and time ground to a halt as she flicked her tongue over the pad of his greenest fingertip. “Since you helped me with my frosting issue,” she rasped.

With his hand already poised next to the lower lip he couldn’t stop obsessing over, he gave in to the urge to drag his thumb over it, the softness and the accompanying dilating pupils completely hypnotizing.

A heated exhale whispered across his wrist as he continued down, down, down until his palm rested against the side of her neck.

“Looks like I didn’t quite get it all, though.” He drew her closer, eradicating all but the last inch of space between their mouths. He held the intimate position for a beat, giving her a chance to pull away if she wanted to. Then he angled his head and flicked his tongue over the corner that was perfectly clean but hadn’t been taste-tested yet.

“Well, now you have some on your lip.” Her tongue darted out, the tip barely hitting the seam of his mouth. The low mmm noise that followed the featherlight touch left his throat sandpaper dry.

Usually Julie was the one who analyzed, applied logic, and kept them out of trouble. He should return the favor, but a haze of lust shrouded his mind, and instead of attempting to clear it, he wanted to sink in and live in this dream for a while.

The world narrowed to her mouth and his, and then he was guiding her face to his, testing the limits of their dangerous game.

The fuse on his nerve endings lit up like a sparkler, burning fast and bright. She parted her lips, and boom. No going back after an explosion like that.
