Excerpt

My order appears and I straighten, intending to claim my coffee and find a seat, when a pretty twenty-something brunette races forward in a puff of sweet, floral-scented perfume, and grabs it.

“Miss,” I begin, “that’s—”

She takes a sip and grimaces. “What is this?” She turns to the counter. “Excuse me,” she calls out. “My drink is wrong.”

“Because it’s not your drink,” Karen reprimands her, setting a new cup on the counter. “This is your drink.” She reaches for my cup and turns it around, pointing to the name scribbled on the side. “This one’s for Shane.” She glances at me. “I’ll be right back to fix this. I have another customer.”

I wave my acknowledgment and she hurries away, while my floral-scented coffee thief faces me, her porcelain cheeks flushed, her full, really damn distracting mouth, painted pink. “I’m so sorry,” she offers quickly. “I thought I was the only one without my coffee and I was in a hurry.” She starts to hand me my coffee and then quickly sets it on the counter. “You can’t have that. I drank out of it.

“I saw that,” I say, picking it up. “You grimaced with disgust after trying it.”

Her eyes, a pale blue that matches the short-sleeved silk blouse, go wide. “Oh. I mean no. Or I did, but not because it’s a bad cup of coffee. It’s just very strong.”

“It’s a triple-shot latte.”

“A triple,” she says, looking quite serious. “Did you know that in some third- world countries they bottle that stuff and sell it as a way to grow hair on your chest.” She lowers her voice and whispers, “That’s not a good look for me.”

“Fortunately,” I say in the midst of a chuckle I would have claimed wasn’t possible five minutes ago, “I don’t share that dilemma.” I lift my cup and add, “Cheers,” before taking a drink, the heavy, rich flavor sliding over my tongue.

She pales, looking exceedingly uncomfortable, before repeating, “I drank from that cup.”

“I know,” I say, offering it back to her. “Try another drink.”

She takes the cup and sets it on the counter. “I can’t drink that. And you can’t either.” She points to he hole on top, now smudged pink. “My lipstick is all over it and I really hate to tell you this but it’s all over you too and . . .” She laughs, a soft, sexy sound, her hands settling on her slender, but curvy hips, accented by a fitted black skirt. “Sorry. I don’t mean to laugh, but it’s not a good shade for you.”

I laugh now too, officially and impossibly charmed by this woman in spite of being in the middle of what feels like World War III. “Seems you know how to make a lasting impression.”

“Thankfully it’s not lasting,” she says. “It’ll wipe right off. And thank you for being such a good sport. I really am sorry again for all of this.”

“Apologize by getting it off me.”

Confusion puckers her brow. “What?”

“You put it on me.” I grab a napkin from the counter and offer it to her. “You get it off.”

“I put it on the cup,” she says, clearly recovering her quick wit. “You put it on you.”

“I assure you, that had I put it on me, we both would have enjoyed it much more than we are now.” I glance at the napkin.

“Are you going to help me?”

Her cheeks flush and she hugs herself, her sudden shyness an intriguing contrast to her confident banter. “I’ll let you know if you don’t get it all.”

My apparently lipstick-stained lips curve at her quick wit but I take the napkin and wipe my mouth, arching a questioning brow when I’m done. She points to the corner of my mouth. “A little more on the left.”

I hand her the napkin. “You do it.”

She inhales, as if for courage, but takes it. “Fine,” she says, stepping closer, that wicked sweet scent of hers teasing my nostrils. Wasting no time, she reaches for my mouth, her body swaying in my direction while my hand itches to settle at her waist. I want this woman and I’m not letting her get away.

“There,” she says, her arm lowering, and not about to let her escape, I capture her hand, holding it and the napkin between us.

Those gorgeous pale blue eyes of hers dart to mine, wide with surprise, the connection sparking an unmistakable charge between us…

Man of Honor – Excerpt

“Not necessarily, but I wouldn’t mind,” Zeke replied truthfully.  “Honor, darlin, you’re a gorgeous woman.”
“Not without my clothes,” she mumbled, bending her head to stare at her clenched fists.  “Ugly,” she muttered.  “I’m ugly.”
Tensing, Zeke’s jaw clenched.  “I don’t know why the hell you’re saying that, but there’s not a single ugly thing about you.  Not when you’re naked.  Not when you’re tryin’ to bring yourself to release.  Not ever, Honor Grace.  You do not ever have to be ashamed of your body.”
Honor slowly lifted her mortified gaze to him.  “You’ve never seen me without my clothes, Zeke.  There are scars.  So many scars.  They’re raised and bumpy.  Some are red and raw.  It’s disgusting, Ezekiel.”
“Bullshit.  Every single one of those marks remind me of one thing, Honor.  One,” he growled, holding up a finger between them.  “You lived.  You survived.  When all the odds were stacked against you, you defied modern medicine and every one of those damned doctors predictions, and you lived.  And all those scars will ever do is remind me of how lucky I am to still have you.  Don’t you ever tell me you’re ugly because you’re the most beautiful thing in my world.  You wanna be scared to share your body with me because of what happened to you?  I get that.  I can accept that.  But worrying about some marks on your flesh?  I love you, baby, but that’s insane.”
Honor stared at him a long time, gauging his sincerity.  “It doesn’t feel silly,” she finally grumbled.
“You need to reassess your feelings then because I assure you, it’s one of the silliest concerns you ever had.  Christ, baby, how long have you been agonizing of a worry as pointless as your scars?” he asked, shoving a frustrated hand through his dark hair.  “I could have put these fears to rest ages ago, Honor, if I’d known about it.”
“It’s hard to talk about,” she revealed in a low voice as her head twisted to look at him.
“Yeah?  Is feeling like shit alone better than talking it over together with me?” he returned calmly, reaching up to tenderly tuck her hair behind one ear.  “Baby, you gotta start getting this.  When you hurt, I hurt.  When you suffer, I suffer right along with you.  Don’t make either one of us feel that way needlessly, Kitten.  Just talk to me.  I know you have scars.  You’ve got them on your body, and you’ve got them on your soul.  I’ve sat by your hospital bed too many times to count and watched you while you did your damnedest to heal them both.  Those wounds are not new information to me and they don’t change shit.  I still love you, and I don’t allow those scars to do anything other than remind me to treasure every day I have with you.  Okay?”
Honor’s eyes were soft as they locked with Zeke’s.  “You really do love me a lot, don’t you?” she asked in a small voice.

“So much that I ache with it, Honor.”

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Another trip to the town of Paradise and another really great read from those Sarah O’Rourke gals…

I always knew Honor & Zeke’s story was gonna be a heart-breaking read – and it was… but it was also full of humour, hope, love, devotion and healing!!

Honor has been through so much it’s amazing she still functions as well as she does. Mind you, she’s got a fantastic support system with her family and friends (and therein maybe lies the problem…. maybe they’re too supportive and too helpful?!) Our heroine has battled to get to where she is now but she still has little faith in herself (even though she’s a successful businesswoman) her self esteem is practically through the floor and she doesn’t believe she’s ever gonna be capable or good enough to have a relationship…. Honor needed to face the past to be able to find her future but she found it easier to box it all away and not talk about it believing that was the best thing to do.

Zeke on the other hand completely disagrees…. even though he doesn’t fully appreciate Honor’s feelings on the matter. He was loving, kind and very patient (though I have to admit that sometimes I wondered whether or not he had been wasting his time and would never get through to the girl he adored!). He’s loved and been watching out for her since she was 18 and when it’s discovered that Honor’s life is possibly under threat again, the sheriff takes it upon himself to pretty much force Honor to see that he is deathly serious in his feeling for her, that they were meant to be together and that he’ll do anything to finally make her his!
Our hero is a total alpha male – which is probably a good thing or he’d likely not have stayed the course in his pursuit of the youngest McKinnon sister.

The story had me from the start, even though it was hard reading about all of the horrors Honor had endured. It was action packed, full of intrigue and suspense but was also sweet, laugh out funny at times and when Zeke and Honor did get together they were hot (gods, those scenes were also some of the sweetest, heart-warming parts of the book!)

If you haven’t checked out this series you really should…. those McKinnon sisters and other residents of Paradise are a crazy bunch and you’ll love every minute of your time with them!

I give Man of Honor 4 sweet stars.

About Sarah Cass

Sarah Cass‘ world is regularly turned upside down by her three special needs kids and loving mate, so she breaks genre barriers; dabbling in horror, straight fiction and urban fantasy.  She loves historicals and romance, and characters who are real and flawed, so she writes to understand what makes her fictional people tick.  And she lives for a happy ending – eventually. And enough twists to make it look like she enjoys her title of Queen of Trauma Drama a little too much.

An ADD tendency leaves her with a variety of interests that include singing, dancing, crafting, cooking, and being a photographer. She fights through the struggles of the day, knowing the battles are her crucible; she may emerge scarred, but always stronger.  The rhythms to her activities drive her words forward, pushing her through the labyrinths of the heart and the nightmares of the mind, driving her to find resolutions to her characters’ problems.

While busy creating worlds and characters as real to her as her own family, she leads an active online life with her blog, Redefining Perfect, which gives a real and sometimes raw glimpse into her life and art.  You can most often find her popping out her 140 characters in Twitter speak, and on Facebook.

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Vodka on the Rocks by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Vodka on the Rocks
Series: Uncertain Saint’s MC #3
Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: July 6, 2016

There are rules to life that one just obeys in order in her attempt stay on the right path.
For example:

1. You don’t wear dirty panties out of the house. You just never know who’s going to see them.

2. A lady must always have chocolate at the ready—just in case the world as she knows it comes to an end.

3. You don’t egg on a drunk woman who’s pissed off at life.

Why, you ask? Because they start bar fights, that’s why.

Casten Red, the unofficial enforcer of The Uncertain Saints MC, wasn’t necessarily trying to urge her into doing anything illegal, and he definitely wasn’t trying to get her into a fight with a group of men who were all twice her size.

No, he only intended to give her the confidence to stand up for herself, just a little nudge in the right direction. How the hell was he supposed to know she’d go all Chuck Norris on them and put three of them in the hospital with concussions?

He should’ve followed his gut instinct and turned around that first moment he saw her in the bar, but Casten has never liked following the rules. Why the hell would he start now?

“You’re dilly dallying,” Casten growled.
I turned around, bag in one hand, and papers in the other, and glared.
“What makes you think that I don’t have a fuckin’ reason for doing what I do?” I growled.
He held up his hands.
“Down tiger,” he said soothingly, although his eyes flashed, telling a different story.
I shoved the rest of my things in my bag, bending them to hell and back, but I couldn’t seem to find the urge to care at that moment in time.
I walked past him, knocking his shoulder, and headed to the back hallway to turn off the last of the lights.
I hit the first two in the in the locker room before heading to the last one in the entire gym area at the bathroom entrance.
But before I could hit the lights, my hand was stilled by Casten’s.
“What’s your problem?” he asked.
I tried to rip my hand free from his grip, but he held on without even the least bit of effort.
“I’m pissed,” I growled.
“Why?” he countered.
I looked across the room at the mirror, and glared at his reflection.
“I don’t want to tell you why I’m pissed. Suffice it to say, you’re the reason, and that’s that,” I growled.
He tightened his hands on my wrists.
“That’s not it. Tell me fuckin’ why, or I’ll make you tell me,” he hissed.
My fists clenched.
“Because you fucking pouted last night instead of talking to me. Then made Core spend the night and take me to work, when I didn’t want him to be there. I wanted you to be there. But you were being a titty baby,” I yelled.
He moved me until my ass met the counter, crowding so close that I was sure he was either going to beat me or fuck me.
Hopefully the latter over the former, if I had a choice.
“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!” I exclaimed.
I waited.
Nothing.
“Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!” I cried.
I waited.
Again, nothing.
“Shit,” I said, opening my eyes.
“Done?” Casten asked from where he’d trapped me against the bathroom counter.
“My clothes are getting wet. In fact, I think my pants are soaked all the way through,” I grumbled, leaning forward until my upper body was laying across the counter.
Casten sat up until all that was touching me were his hips, where his massive erection dug into my ass.
“You’re cute,” he said, reaching up and pulling my hair out of my ponytail.
I glared. “I’m not cute.”
He grabbed my face and turned it to face the mirror.
His hands were squeezing my face so I looked like I had ten chin rolls and lips three sizes too big.
“See,” he said. “Cute.”

the third book in the Cowboy Cocktail series by Mia Hopkins…

For eight years, Melody Santos played the game of love and lost—big time. Now she’s back in her tiny hometown looking after her younger sister, making ends meet with an assortment of odd jobs. When her childhood best friend hires her to help him sell his family’s grass-fed beef, the last thing she anticipates is falling in lust with the legendary, brown-eyed player.

To put his family’s cattle ranch back in the black, Clark MacKinnon has his sights set on big contracts—gourmet chefs and restaurateurs. If that means long hours traveling from farmer’s market to farmer’s market, Clark doesn’t mind. Particularly since his new assistant is his childhood crush, all grown up and sexy as hell.

One night in bed leaves them breathless and hungry for more. But when his love-’em-and-leave-’em reputation collides with her trust issues, Clark and Melody must face the truth about what they’ve become: not friends, not lovers, but players in a game that’s impossible to win.

Warning: Contains filthy banter, raunchy sex, excessive Johnny Cash references, and hundreds of pounds of raw beef.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I haven’t read the previous books in the Cowboy Cocktail series but that’s something I’ll be doing ASAP!!! Cowboy Player was a fun, sexy, flirty friends-to-lovers read which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Melody Santos is a hardworking sassy but sweet twenty-something who has moved home to take care of her younger sister, Harmony. To do this she is working a few jobs, one of which is with her best friend from childhood, Clark (aka Superman!). Clark MacKinnon is hardworking, fun and smokin’ HOT!! He’s dedicated to keeping his family’s farm business stay afloat and he seems like a really good guy but he definitely comes across as a player – he flirts with most females and is never short of admirers who are all too willing to fall for his charms – only Melody seems to be the exception and immune to his flirting…. or is she?
Clark didn’t seem too interested in his bestie until she started flirting with a buddy of his, then things changed… Unknown to Melody, ‘Superman’ has always had a thing for her so he’s more than keen to take things further and explore the possibilities of being more than just friends.

The relationship between this pair was comfortable and easy, even after Melody being away from home for 8 years. When things change, we find that together they are scorching hot. They work really well and would make a great couple (in and out of the bedroom) but due to trust issues and past problems with her ex, we aren’t sure that Melody can overcome her fears and doubts and take a chance on something more with Clark.

I really wanted things to work for these two – they were fun and I liked both characters a lot. Harmony, Mel’s little sister was a bit of a pain but not too much that it took away from my enjoyment of the book. Clark’s brothers also feature in the story and they seem to be as charming and attractive as him… (just another reason to go back and check out the earlier books 😉 )

This was a quick afternoon read. Mia Hopkins gave us likeable, relatable characters, an interesting story with a touch of ‘will they, won’t they’, a bit of sweet and a whole lot of hot & sexy!!!

A solid 4* read in my opinion and one I’d definitely recommend!

Excerpt:

On the record player, the next track started. Guitar licks, drums, a little fiddle—Melody knew the song at once.

“Oh man,” said Clark. “‘Troubadour’. This a good one. Dance with me, Mel.”

He pulled her off the sofa before she could say anything. Wrapped up in the arms of a big cowboy was not a terrible place to be, so Melody danced with him, barefoot in her parents’ living room, the slow two-step a song both their bodies knew the words to. Her laughter died away, giving way to a quiet sense of vulnerability. The verses slid by like a dream, erasing the burden of loneliness she’d been carrying for so long. It had been months since she’d been this close to a man. It had been years since she’d felt this close to one.

Clark could read her mind. “So what was his name again?” he asked softly. “Scott?”

“Yeah.”

“What happened?”

“A slow-motion disaster, that’s what happened.” She rested her cheek against the hard, hot wall of Clark’s chest. “He was a musician. Fun. Exciting. He said I meant the world to him. But I suppose the world wasn’t enough.”

“What do you mean?”

It was still hard to say aloud. “He cheated on me. It had been going on for months. When I found out and confronted him about it, he broke down said he was sorry. We tried to put it past us. We even went to therapy. But it was all a lie. He left me when my mom passed away.” At first, the pain had been excruciating, dulled only by grief and the weight of her new responsibilities. “Eight years, down the drain.”

“That’s a long time. Did you ever talk about getting married?”

“He said he didn’t like labels.” She sighed. “Which was also a lie, because he married the other woman in Vegas in February.”

“Jesus Christ. I’m sorry.” Clark gave her a squeeze. “You know, if you were mine, I’d hold on to you for good.”

“Sure. Until the next piece of ass came along.”

“Never seen a piece of ass like yours.”

“That’s the friend talking. Your dick might say otherwise.”

“My dick, huh?” Clark laughed quietly. “You’re welcome to check with my dick yourself. He doesn’t talk loud, so you’ll have to get down on your knees to hear him.”

“Jackass.”

“Seriously, Mel. You don’t know what you’ve got going on. Smart as all get-out. Hell, you run circles around me, and I’m a genius. And you’re funny too. Ain’t many women who can make me laugh. You’re one of them.”

She rolled her eyes. “Aw shucks, Ma. Next the cowboy told me I was real purty.”

“Fuck pretty. You’re beautiful.”

It was too much. Danger. “Clark—”

“So beautiful. I always thought so.” He gave her a sad smile. “Honest to God.”

The heat rising between them cooked her brain. She was at a loss for words. “Thanks.”

“No thanks needed. Just stating the obvious.” They danced until the song ended on a ribbon of steel guitar. Clark leaned down and pressed his lips to her temple.

Melody gasped.

Instead of pulling away, he traced a slow, agonizing trail of kisses along her hairline until he was kissing her neck just behind her ear.

Pleasure overloaded her nervous system, but her brain wouldn’t let her enjoy it. “Wh-what are you doing?”

“Something I’ve wanted to do for a long, long time.”

CUFFED cover

Synopsis:

Are you ready to get Cuffed?

As a cop, Levi Kincaid is all about discipline and control . . .in the bedroom, and out of it, and he’s always been very careful about choosing women who abide by his rules.

Hot sex and intense pleasure?

No problem.

Emotional commitment and forever promises?

No way.

But he never anticipates falling for a blue eyed angel who makes him want to cuff her to his bed and do dirty, sexy things to her. And that control of his? It doesn’t stand a chance against Sarah Robins, the one woman he can’t resist . . .

Excerpt:

“When are you going to face the fact that this chick just isn’t into you?”

Levi Kincaid glanced across the dark interior of the unmarked SUV to his partner, Nick Catalano, who was alternating his attention between navigating the road and making sure Levi saw his smart-ass smirk. It wasn’t the first time his friend had given Levi shit about his request to stop by Circle K on their way back to the station after their shift ended.

For the past two months they’d been assigned to the DUI Strike Force in the area, which made stopping by the mart convenient. Seeing and flirting with Sarah Robins was just an added bonus.

“She’s totally into me, so that’s not the issue,” Levi refuted confidently, not at all bothered by Nick’s ribbing. There were many times he’d caught the tempting way Sarah looked at him when she didn’t think he was aware of her. And there was no mistaking the attraction between them she was so determined to fight. He just hadn’t figured out why yet. But he would.

“Then what’s the problem?” Nick persisted—this from a man who was all about instant gratification when it came to women, while Levi was more . . . selective.

“I’m not sure yet,” he replied honestly.

Truthfully, he was having a hell of a time getting past that wariness of hers, which only made him more curious about who Sarah Robins was— and where she’d come from. Admittedly, his interest in her had nothing to do with him being an inquisitive cop, and everything to do with him wanting her, in a deeper way than any female had gotten to him before. He just had to get her on the same page as him.

Levi wasn’t normally the type of guy who’d continue to pursue a woman who’d already turned him down half a dozen times. A smart man would have cut his losses after the first rejection, but from the moment he’d looked into Sarah’s sweet, soulful blue eyes, he’d felt a connection that only seemed to grow stronger every time he saw her.

And he certainly didn’t miss the irony of that realization, when he was a man adept at maintaining strict control of his emotions—in all aspects of his life.

“This is a shit part of town,” Nick said, stating the obvious, which brought Levi’s thoughts back to the present. “As soon as we’re off this DUI task force, I don’t want to drive through this part of Englewood unless it’s for a call, so close the deal with Sarah already.”

“Winning a woman over takes time, Catalano,” Levi said easily—especially one as wary as Sarah. “Though that’s something I wouldn’t expect you to understand.”

“Hell, no,” he agreed with a quick, player’s grin. “That’s too much fucking work when there are plenty of women who take one look at this uniform and are instantly willing and eager to bend over and drop their panties. Trust me, getting laid, and regularly, is not an issue for me.”

Levi had plenty of offers; he was just more particular about his bed partners. He didn’t do one night stands, but he didn’t do long term committed, either. The few women he’d dated and allowed into his private life were looking for the same thing he was—a mutually satisfying physical relationship without any emotional involvement. More importantly, they were willing to let him be in control during all aspects of sex.

And Sarah, from everything he’d learned so far, didn’t strike him as the type looking for long term either. Which made his pursuit easier for him to justify … and live with.

Arriving at the Circle K, Nick turned the SUV into the deserted lot. He drove past the gas station area and stopped in front of the convenience store instead of parking the vehicle.

“I noticed the back tire was low at the DUI check point,” Nick said, explaining why he hadn’t pulled into one of the many empty spaces in front of the mart like he normally did. “While you run inside and do your thing, I’m going to drive around back and fill the tire up with air. I’ll meet you out front when you’re done.”

“Sounds good.” Levi released his seat belt and opened the door. “You want anything?”

Nick grinned. “Yeah, I’ll take a root beer and a Snicker’s bar.”

“You got it.” Levi hopped out of the truck, and while his partner drove off and disappeared behind the building, he headed toward the store.

Out of years of habit, he glanced around the area, looking for anything, or anyone, who might be out of place. Especially in this part of town. But it was a quiet evening, and there weren’t any other cars or people around, which wasn’t unusual for a late Tuesday night. He walked into the store, and to his immediate left was the main counter and two registers. Sarah was sitting on a stool reading a magazine, and as soon as she heard someone enter, she looked up.

Her bored expression immediately transformed to one of pleasure as a genuine, happy-to-see-him smile curved her soft, lush mouth, which never failed to make him think about slowly licking his tongue across that full lower lip before kissing her, or how that mouth would feel sliding down the length of his cock as she looked up at him from a kneeling position on the floor at his feet.

Heat and desire mingled in his belly, and lower, as he strolled toward the counter. Yeah, he’d stored up five long week’s worth of the hottest, most sinful fantasies of Sarah, in some of the most erotic scenarios he could imagine. Those dirty thoughts had come in handy when he’d lain in bed, hard and aching and needing relief. With his hand wrapped tight around his dick, those decadent visions playing through his mind never failed to alleviate his lust.

But the relief was always temporary. He wanted the real thing. He wanted Sarah, her body soft and warm beneath his, and her willing to give herself over to him in all the ways he desired. And that kind of trust took time. And patience. Both of which he had in abundance.

synopsis

Avery Collins has just landed her dream job, pastry chef for the posh-Manhattan restaurant, Clover. Her new boss, Trace Montgomery, even helped with securing her an affordable place to live: a beautifully restored carriage house owned by his friend, Rafe McKenzie—a man that makes her catch her breath and stirs her imagination. Trouble is, he’s involved with someone, his father is being released after 25 years in prison and Avery is just his tenant. Exploring the attraction that sizzles whenever they’re together would be the icing on the cake, but Avery knows all too well that you can’t have everything. Of course, what’s cake without icing?

Rafe McKenzie’s world shattered at nine when his father Liam—the only parent he knew—was arrested and convicted for armed robbery. Growing up in the system, Rafe managed to survive his childhood and now has a job he enjoys, a house he’s restoring and a tight circle of friends. He’s even working on reconciling with his dad, both eager to put the past in the past.

Happy for the income a tenant would bring, Rafe agrees to rent his carriage house to Clover’s new pastry chef. When Avery Collins pulls up his drive, she’s not at all what he’s expecting. Funny, sexy and as sweet as her desserts, it doesn’t take long for things between them to heat up. Just when it seems as if they’ll have their cake and eat it too, the past comes back with deadly intent leaving Rafe to figure out who’s pulling the strings before his world shatters again.
