CHEF PIERRE

Holly Walker had everything she’d ever dreamed about – a happy marriage and being mum to beautiful brown-eyed Emma – until an accident nineteen months ago tore her world apart. Now she’s a widow and single mother to a boisterous little 7-year-old girl, looking for a new start. Ready to take the next step, Holly has found herself a job as a maître d’ at Table One, a once-acclaimed restaurant in the heart of Sydney. But one extremely arrogant Frenchman isn’t going to be easy to work with…

Twenty years ago, Pierre LeRoux came to Australia, following the stunning Aussie girl he’d fallen in love with and married. He and his wife put their personal lives on hold, determined for Pierre to take Sydney’s culinary society by storm. Just as his bright star was on the upswing, tragedy claimed the woman he was hopelessly in love with. He had been known as a Master Chef, but since his wife’s death he has become known as a monster chef.

Can two broken people rebuild their lives and find happiness once more?

SMOKE AND MIRRORS

Words can trick us.

Smoke obscures objects on the edge of our vision.
A mirror may reflect, but the eye sees what it wants.
A delicate scent can evoke another time and place, a memory from the past.
And a sentence can deceive you, even as you read it.

There’s something about the written word that is pure magic.

Possibly it’s the fact there are 26 letters in the English alphabet, and they can create something so beautiful or so empowering they’re capable to change our lives.

How important is it that we break suit and stretch our minds?

I like to think of myself as ‘unique’. My stories aren’t for everyone, and sometimes I may push what you believe to be ‘normal’.

Normal is subjective.

I prefer to be known as a person who’s never been ‘bound by custom’ but is ‘unique by choice’.

I hope you do read and enjoy my stories.

COVER REVEAL ~ Cruel Water (A Portland, ME, novel) by Freya Barker

 CRUEL WATER Ecover

“CRUEL WATER”
A Portland, ME, novel
by Freya Barker

Release: March, 2016

Cover: Rebel Edit & Design

SYNOPSIS:

Innocence marked her…

Violation crippled her…

Love left her raw…

The life she carefully rebuilt is challenged when she is confronted with the sins from her past. The carefully applied protection is at once ripped away, leaving her exposed and vulnerable.

Her single night of indulgence with the silver-eyed stranger is only the beginning. He sees right to the heart of her and she is unable to ward off emotions that have been deeply buried. With the sting of betrayal still fresh in her soul, she’s surprised to find herself opening up to the honest integrity of the sharp-eyed, rough-looking biker.

When he lost everyone who mattered, he was left without roots and learned to be content simply living in the moment. Completely unprepared for the feisty blonde bartender with old pain marring her clear-blue eyes, he questions his own rules of detachment, as she unwittingly finds a way under his skin.

Appearances deceive and when the masks fall away, revealing deep, dark secrets, there is nothing left but to hang onto each other and survive the storm.

EXCERPT:

The muffled sound of a phone ringing penetrates the remnants of sleep. I try to get up, but find myself pinned to the bed by a heavy body. Right. Slowly the memories of last night filter back: the tall quiet man at the end of the bar who’d spent my shift at “The Skipper” following my movements without a word. Startling grey eyes in a rugged face that I could feel on me by the tingle it spread over my skin. Dark brown long hair skimming the collar of his worn leather jacket and the strong, long legs cased in dark jeans had drawn my attention the moment he walked in. When he lifted his eyes to mine as he took a stool at the bar, the impact of his gaze jarred me. His order of beer was the only time I heard his dark raspy voice. The rest of the night he simply lifted his empty glass for a refill and my normally chatty self seemed unable to try for empty conversation. Tongue-tied. My brothers would have had a blast torturing me with that fact.
The man left the bar about half an hour before closing and I’d felt a brief sense of loss before I scolded myself for even giving him a thought. I should know better. And I thought I did, before walking out to cross the parking lot to my apartment building after closing and finding him leaning against the single light post at the end of the alley. Why I wasn’t scared, I don’t know. I should’ve been. Instead I watched with butterflies in my stomach as he purposely stalked toward me, stopping no more than a breath away, forcing me to tilt my head back to look at him. That in itself was a turn on. I’m not exactly short and am used to meeting most people at eye level.
His eyes roamed over my face before coming to rest on my mouth. Part of me wanted to bolt, but another, stronger part of me wanted badly to give into a craving I’ve spent years suppressing. While I was waging this internal battle, his arms folded around me and pulled me hard into his chest. Strong, solid arms banded around me and one hand slipped into the short hair at my neck, fingers curling tight to the point of pain. Still, I didn’t move. The first touch of his lips on mine was brief, and quickly followed by a toe-curling exploration of the recesses of my mouth. A kiss that satisfied a hunger I hadn’t been aware of.
I did have the presence of mind not to take him back to my place. I simply climbed on when he pulled me by the hand to the black and chrome bike at the edge of the lot. Tucked in tight behind his broad back, I let him take me to the La Quinta Inn on Park Avenue.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR11780015_870292923067189_596371214957936446_o

Freya Barker craved reading about ‘real’ people, those who are perhaps less than perfect, but just as deserving of romance, hot monkey sex and some thrills and chills  in their lives – So she decided to write about them. Always creative, from an early age on she danced and sang, doodled, created, cooked, baked, quilted and crafted. Her latest creative outlets were influenced by an ever-present love for reading. First through blogging, then cover art and design, and finally writing. Born and raised in  the Netherlands, she packed her two toddlers, and eight suitcases filled with toys to move to Canada. No stranger to new beginnings, she thrives on them. With the kids grown and out in the world, Freya is at the ‘prime’ of her life. The body might be a bit ramshackle, but the spirit is high and as adventurous as ever. Something you may see reflected here and there in some of her heroines…. none of who will likely be wilting flowers.

SYNOPSIS

Pain punished her.

The bottle numbed her.

Guilt kept her trapped.

In the dark alley of a pub, the words “Please don’t” take hold of her heart and break the silence she seeks. Thinking herself beyond redemption, she tentatively grabs on to the slim thread of hope that unfolds inside of her.

Holding her secrets close, she can’t resist the comforting draw coming from The Skipper. The unconditional friendships it offers, the protective roof it provides, and the spark that its owner ignites in her—melting the frost off her heart, and slowly stripping away her resistance.

His life flows from one crisis to the next. Under the pressure of competition crowding him out of his family’s pub and the need to protect his children from the ruins of a bad marriage, he barely breathes. That is until a mane of strawberry-blonde hair and a set of big, pale blue eyes, shake him up.

He never expected the shadow of a woman he finds on the floor of his washroom to bring him the air―the balance and the light he’s been missing.

WTF? What does that even mean? DELETE.

Lies.

I’m not Hope Hughes. I’m not some fierce woman romance machine. Hell, I’m not even a woman.

I’m a liar.

You see, I once lived for the perfect plot twist.

I just never expected to actually live it.

She wants him to squeeze her melons . . .

He wants her to hold his wood . . .

Max is the sole reason Breezy can’t keep a boyfriend. Every boyfriend she has ever had breaks up with her the moment they meet him. It’s not because of his eight-pack, or his panty shredding smile, no, the reason Breezy remains single is because Max is her best friend and also her roommate.

When Breezy’s new boyfriend dumps her after meeting Max for the first time, Breezy is determined to cure her boyfriend woes by challenging Max to a bet after a night of drunken dancing: she can’t click her mouse, he can’t wrestle his snake, and neither one can say the word sex or they lose. It was a simple game of abstinence, until Max decides to tempt Breezy into a hilarious game of innuendos. Now the only thing harder than Max’s “wood”, is figuring out just where their friendship lies after all bets are off.

BLP Review – Tracy

I was intrigued when I read the blurb for Innuendos so when I got the opportunity to read an ARC I jumped at the chance – and I’m so glad that I did!!! Started it late evening and read pretty much through the night as I was enjoying the story so much!

Bree and Max have been best friends since high school and are now flatmates. They have a fantastic relationship and are there for each other no matter what.

Max is most definitely my new favourite book boyfriends – he was hot, sexy (yeah, I did have to overlook his – totally warranted – manwhore status!! – but that was explained!!) he was attentive, thoughtful, caring and very funny!! Totally understood why he was Bree’s best friend!!

Bree was totally suited to her bestie – she just couldn’t see him in that light. Too afraid that doing more than flirt with him would ruin their friendship regardless of how attracted she is to him. Her desire to be in a lasting relationship always falls at the hurdle where her latest flame meets Max (he seems to bring out the bf’s insecurities, amongst other things). After her latest breakup – yep, you guessed it, ‘cos of her hottie flatmate – they come up with a ‘no sex’ challenge. Double entendres and innuendos are all grand – they just can’t directly mention or have sex (with each other or anyone else!). I honestly haven’t laughed so much reading a book in quite some time. The comments came thick and fast (yeah, that was totally intended!! 😉 ) and Bree gave Max back as good as she got (is that another one?!?!) 😀

There’s a lot more to the story that I’m not gonna tell you, that you need to read yourself!
Supporting characters were really entertaining – especially loved Maggie and her beau. Can’t wait for more in this series!

If you enjoy a great laugh out loud read with a good storyline, go 1-C yourself a copy of Innuendos and settle in for the duration – I promise you, you won’t want to put your eReader down once you get started on this fabulous book!!!
If you enjoy the books of Tara Sivec and/or Alice Clayton, Max & Bree’s story will be up there on your list of faves I’m sure..

I rate Innuendos 5 gloriously funny stars – *****

ARC received in exchange for an honest review. Enjoyed it so much I’ve also bought my own copy!

Excerpts

 #1

“Did you touch my panties?” she accuses.

“Excuse me?” I ask innocently.

“My panties did you touch them?”

This couldn’t go more perfectly than if she was a dummy and I was a ventriloquist. “I’m still not following. I usually ask permission before fondling undergarments.”

“You’re incorrigible, I’m serious, Max. Did you touch my panties?”

“How were your panties touched?”

“You know exactly how they were touched, because you were the one touching them.”

“It would help if you were a little more specific on how I touched your panties.”

“You shoved them to the side.”

“I did?” It’s so hard not to laugh.

“You shoved them to the side and stuck your penis in between them.”

Now I’m giggling. This is going perfectly. “I think I would remember if I shoved your panties to the side and stuck my penis anywhere.”

Obviously she’s too sleepy to get the hilarity of this conversation because her face is angry red. She stomps back into her room and comes back out with the bright green dildo I left in her drawer.

“See I have your penis in my hands! You stuck it my drawer after shoving my panties to the side.”

Now I’m laughing hysterically.

“What?” she asks angrily. “You have no idea how hot this conversation is, do you?”

Finally, she wakes up. “You just won’t stop will you?”

“Stop what?”

“Trying to win the bet. You’ve gone to the dark side, Max. This bet has made you officially lose it.”

“How so?”

“You’ve resorted to touching my panties.”

I grin. “Well, if I have to resort to something, touching panties is at the top of my list.”

#2

“Fucking monkey suck nuts, you’re naked!” She screeches covering her eyes.

“How was your day, Dear?” I ask ignoring her.

She peeks through the slats in her fingers. “Put some clothing on. We don’t live in a nudist colony, you exhibitionist!” She’s still yelling, which makes my smile spread.

“I made spaghetti, your favorite.”

“Put some pants on!”

I’m entirely too turned on by her ordering me around like this, and I feel my dick getting hard. Her expression is priceless. “Fuck, its rising. It’s practically waving at me.”

She’s still peeking through her fingers. It’s like when there’s an accident on the freeway. You don’t want to look, but feel compelled to when you pass by. That’s Breezy right now—she’s totally rubber necking my dick.

“I was wondering if you could taste my balls for me.” Oh my god, I could die right now. It’s killing me that I can’t laugh.

Her mouth drops. “I am soooo not sucking on your balls.”

“I need a taster, I’m wondering if they’re too salty.Focus Max. Do not laugh.

“I’m not tasting your balls, salty or otherwise.” Her eyes drop to my nut sack and I see her briefly lick her lips. This is so working.

I look around because the hair on the back of my neck prickles. “We need to get out of here.” Someone is here, watching, listening, and now it’s time to do what I do best. “I’ve missed you.” I smile while I use the tip of my finger to trace his jawline.
Mark’s eyes shift over my head as he pulls me flush against his body. We’re both facing exits. “I’ve missed you more,” he plays along.
This might just work. He’s on alert as well and senses something awry. His fingers splay across my lower back as he holds me close. “Maybe we should head back to my place so you can show me just how much.” I glance over his shoulder. His blonde hair falls in his eyes as he dips his head into my neck. I know the move, but a shiver runs down my spine.
“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” I release a very low moan, which I didn’t give permission to escape. Mark’s lips glide across my skin.
I’m not sure he’s acting.
I’m not even sure that I am.
Then Mark reminds me this is serious. “There are two guys behind you.” His voice is low enough that only I can hear him. To anyone passing, we’re two lovers reacquainting ourselves. “One at my two o’clock, and the other is out of my view.”
“One just passed behind you twice. I think going toward my exit is best.” I snuggle closer. “I’m ready when you are.” The double meaning is meant for anyone to hear, but Mark should know it means I’m ready to disappear. “You’ll have to keep up, though.”
He leans back while cupping my face. His lips hover over mine. “I don’t have any problems keeping you satisfied, princess.”
My pulse spikes. I know he can hear it, feel it, see in my eyes that I’m affected. My breaths are shallow as his hands slowly make their way down my arms.
“Arrogant prick,” I mutter.
I can tell he’d be an incredible lover. His overconfidence would only play to my benefit. We’re both cut from the same cloth, ready to fight for dominance. He’d win, though. I can see it in his eyes. There would be no battle, Mark has already won. Right now, he controls me. He determines whether we kiss, what it’ll be like, and for the first time in my life—I surrender.
His lips come closer. “They’re closing in,” he whispers, his eyes locked on me. “Charlie?” he asks.
“What?” My voice is barely audible.
“This will happen again when we don’t have to fight off people, and then you’ll be mine.”
I don’t have time to reply. His lips crash down on mine as he spins me around so he leads our exit. The second our mouths collide, my brain disconnects. My fingers tangle in his hair, grabbing it to pull him close. Mark’s hands hold my face to his and he continues to guide me. I know we’re moving but I have no idea to where. In this instant, I don’t care. Never has someone made me feel so desperate for them. I never lose control, never feel so lost, yet right now, I am. I’m raw, exposed, and completely vulnerable.

MASTERED BY THE MAVERICKS:

The first step to solving a problem…

Brynna Monet is on a man diet for the rest of her life. No more G men, spies, or soldiers, period. Willpower comes easily from the scars on her heart, left by a string of dominant bad boys who have all asked too high a price for her passion: her trust.
But what ransom will she give for her best friend’s life?
When the unspeakable happens, Brynn insists on courting temptation in every hot, dangerous sense of the word—times two. In order to save her friend from the captivity of a madman, Brynn is assigned as a secret consultant on one of the military’s riskiest missions, working with a pair of the Special Forces’ most notorious bad boys: Rhett Lange and Rebel Stafford.

…is admitting you’ve got one.

From the moment Brynn lands in the middle of a Texas wilderness with these two, she questions the sanity of her decision—and the survival of her willpower. Like the most decadent dominant dessert, Rhett and Rebel embody everything her body craves—and her spirit fears. Their control unravels her fantasies, their command exposes her desire…and their courage, with themselves as well as the monster they chase, moves her heart.
But, like all dreams-come-true, it’s temporary.
Though Brynn submits to her lovers, she knows better than to give up her trust—until the fate of the mission hinges on exactly that. Can Brynn face her biggest fear to save a friend’s life—but still know her soul at the end?

Excerpt

Rhett watched the yes fire up her eyes before it lifted her lips. The light, piercing as dawn through autumn leaves, mesmerized him just as thoroughly—until she turned to give its magic to Reb—Who was just as worthy of the words.

Mesmerizing. Magical.

Christ. He’d never seen Moon look like this. The man illuminated rooms no matter where they went, but his luminosity always copied the celestial satellite he was nicknamed after, borrowing the glow from something else. Now, for the first time in their friendship, the joy on Rebel’s face was an inner thing, inspired by something that was purely his…

Magnified as they locked eyes once more.

The guy’s happiness ricocheted at Rhett like a rocket, decimating his chest with its intensity. Rebel had gotten it—thank God. Had understood everything Rhett was trying to communicate with this proposition. Though he couldn’t give Reb that extra step in their relationship—fuck, regular friendship still wasn’t something he knew how do correctly—this was his way of trying. A bridge, in the form of this beautiful, passionate woman, to at least connect them halfway. And God only knew, all three of them needed reconnection right now. No guilt. No strings. Just heat, desire, bonding, fulfillment. Just this. Just now. It was a win-win-win.

He really liked those odds.

“Rebel?”

Brynna’s query reminded him that Moon hadn’t verbally weighed in on things yet. Psshh. A formality, really. Rhett almost bellowed the hell, yes on behalf of his friend.

Damn good thing he didn’t.

Whoa. Rebel really had become a different person. The usual Moonstormer would have been jumping on this invite like it was engraved in gold from the Playboy Mansion. A let’s-get-naked playdate, with Brynna and him, no regrets or rearviews attached? Why the idiot wasn’t dropping trou this second, instead of taking a step back from them both, was a deepening mystery.

“Reb?” Rhett issued his own cautious prompt. “You down or not?” And did he really have to voice it?

Rebel looked up—exposing the bright blue flashes in his gaze. “Oh, I’m down.” He moved back in, slipping one hand over Brynna’s, before spreading her fingers over his crotch. The swell beneath his track pants visibly jumped, stretching a cock-shaped silhouette into the black cotton.

Rhett barely stopped himself from swaying.

Goddamn, that was a stunning sight.

A gulp pounded down his throat. How the hell had this happened? He’d always been an open-minded guy, but as a whole, cock did nothing for him. In prep schools since the age of ten and cross-country at RIT, he’d been in enough group showers to know it as a sure thing. Pussy was definitely more his thing. Soft. Supple. Tender. Tasty.

But the cock in those pants wasn’t just any cock. It belonged to the guy who knew him better than anyone else. The man who’d seen enough ugliness in his life not to be bothered about the strange journey of his. The guy who understood what it was like to take life in chunks of now instead of pining for the past or stressing about the future, because none of it mattered if a bomb blew your face away. The man who was more his family than the people with whom he shared DNA. His brother in arms, his friend in all times of need—and in so many ways, his soulmate.

Who’d understand, more than anyone, his need to deal with this shit by making light of it. “Looks like you’re up for it too, dude.”

Rebel didn’t laugh. Or react in much of any other way. The fucker was still an enigma, his face a taut mask as he caught Brynna’s other wrist in his hold. He pulled her hands between their chests with a low growl. “Let’s be very clear. I want to do this with you as badly as Rhett does, littlecher…”

“But?” She supplied the implied word.

“But this time, I won’t be able to control myself as much as I did on the airplane. I won’t be able to hide so many of my…special preferences.” One side of his mouth kicked up—finally—when his revelation goose-bumped her flesh. “You’re a very bright girl, aren’t you? You’ve already figured out what they are. Maybe even thought about all the…creative ways…I could play with you.” His thumbs stroked her inner wrists. “Control you. Then pleasure you.”

Rhett palmed the shaft now pushing at his own pants. “And I won’t be able to hide what that does to me.”

Rebel nailed him with a hot glance. “I sure as hell hope not.”

Well, that made things official. Track pants really could be torture devices.

AboutTheAuthor

Bestselling romance author Angel Payne has been reading and writing her entire life, though her love for romances began in junior high, when writing with friends on “swap stories” they’d trade between classes. Needless to say, those stories involved lots of angst, groping, drama, and French kissing.

She began getting a paycheck for her writing in her twenties, writing record reviews for a Beverly Hills-based dance music magazine. Some years, various entertainment industry gigs, and a number of years in the hospitality industry later, Angel returned to the thing she loves the most: creating character-based romantic fiction. Along the way, she also graduated with two degrees from Chapman University in Southern California, taking departmental honors for English, before writing five historical romances for Kensington and Bantam/Doubleday/Dell.

Angel found a true home in writing contemporary-based romances that feature high heat and high concepts, focusing on memorable alpha men and the women who tame them. BLOG TOUR – Bear Bites Series by Ruby Dixon

Synopsis - AP.jpg

SHIFT OUT OF LUCK

RDC-Shift-Out-of-Luck-Kindle.jpg

There are few things that are off limits to the were-bears of Pine Falls, but humans are one of them. Which is a real pain, because I’ve had it bad for curvy Adelaide Laurent ever since she sashayed into town. The fact that she’s forbidden fruit just makes my fantasies all the sweeter.

But when she signs up to go on a weekend camping trip with the town’s biggest player, it’s time for a bear to step in and claim his mate.

I don’t care if it breaks the rules. She’s mine, and it’s time she knew it.

SHIFT JUST GOT REAL

RDC-Shift-Just-Got-Real-Kindle.jpg

Life’s given me the short end of the stick on looks – I’m big, ugly and brutish. Normally I wouldn’t care about the packaging except for the fact that the woman of my dreams is Ryann Brown, a human half my age and so lovely she makes my body ache. What’s a were-bear to do in this situation?

Whatever he can to forget her, of course.

Except Ryann’s not taking no for an answer. And when she catches me watching her one night, she gives me a show I’ll never forget. Did I think I’d be able to walk away and not touch her? Not claim what’s mine?

Not a chance.

GET YOUR SHIFT TOGETHER

RDC- Get-Your-Shift-Together-.jpg

I’ve been looking for a mate in all the wrong places. When the right one shows up in Pine Falls with a man in tow, I almost miss her. Caroline Abbott is a sweetheart of a city girl who is making one last stab at keeping her (dead) relationship together. When her fool of an ex takes off and leaves her alone in the forest, I’m more than happy to step into his abandoned shoes.

While I can make her shout with pleasure, I worry those screams will turn to fear when she realizes that my hidden half is a bear.

I can’t keep the secret much longer, but telling her might scare her off for good.

DOES A BEAR SHIFT IN THE WOODS

RDC-Does-a-Bear-Shift-in-the-Woods.jpg

I’m a loner for a reason. I don’t have much in the way of social skills. I’d rather sit on my deck and watch the sunset than hit a tavern with coworkers. My idea of grooming is to trim my beard with a straight blade when it hits my collarbone. I can’t put two words together in the company of a pretty woman…and they don’t come much prettier than wolf-shifter Madison Thorne.

She’s everything I’m not—outgoing, easy on the eyes, and sweet. There’s no way I’m convincing her to come home with me. Fortunately I don’t have to. Maddie seems to like my gruff, unpolished self. At least, she likes me enough for one night.

The problem is getting her to stay forever.

GET YOUR SHIFT TOGETHER

I nod, biting my lip. I’m eager for him, and waiting any longer seems torturous. I wiggle out of his grasp and slide down onto the blankets. His big body immediately covers me again, and he kisses me before rearing up on his knees to slide the condom on. Even though it’s dark inside the tent, I admire the outline of his form. He’s just so…delicious to look at. I want to run my mouth over every inch of him.

In the morning, maybe, when I can admire him by daylight. Right now, I just want him back on top of me.

As if he can read my mind, Leo leans back over me, and I feel one of his big thighs nudge between my legs. He leans in to kiss me, and as I wrap my arms around his neck, he puts a hand to my knee and parts my legs. His cock presses against my pussy, and then he rubs the head of it through my slick folds.

I moan against his mouth because that feels amazing. Each time the head of his cock grazes my clit, I nearly jump out of my skin with pleasure.

Then he pushes inside me, and I gasp at how big he feels. “Leo!”

“I’m right here, Caro,” he murmurs, nipping at my jaw with tiny kisses. “I’ve got you, baby.” He continues to whisper sweet things even as he begins a slow, delicious rhythm, stroking in and out.

I raise one leg and lock it around his waist as he pushes deep into me. The force of his thrust shoves us over the blankets, and I gasp.

“Too much?” He asks, freezing over me.

“No! Keep going!” I slap a palm against one thick, sweat-dewed arm.

He growls low in his throat, almost animalistic, and then the fucking goes up a notch. If I thought Leo was fierce in the sack before, I’ve seen nothing before now. His every stroke makes my entire body jiggle with the force of his thrusts, and I’m clinging to him for dear life, soft cries escaping my throat. An orgasm begins, low in my belly, and I’m startled because I’ve never come without a bit of clit stimulation from a boyfriend, which means I usually don’t get to come. But Leo’s cock is hitting me in all the right places, and each thrust seems to wreck me, inside and out. I dig my nails into his skin and scream, head thrown back as the orgasm blasts through me, my entire body clenching and stiffening with the force of sensation.

He growls again, and his thrusts become wild as he anchors me against him and fucks me harder. “Mine,” he snarls low in his throat. I want to agree with him that I’m all his, but all I can do is choke out a gasping response, still locked in the throes of my orgasm.

When he comes, he snarls my name, and I feel a curious sort of possessive pleasure to hear that. His weight pins me down to the blankets as he catches his breath, and I slide a hand up and down his sweaty back. I just like touching him. He feels so…solid. Physical. I love it.

He leans forward and captures my mouth in a fierce, quick kiss. “I’m going to get rid of this condom and then I’ll be back.”

“Okay.” The moment he leaves the tent, I contemplate getting a towel out of my bag, wetting it, and cleaning myself up. I’m sticky between my thighs, and I really hope the condom didn’t break.

But Leo returns quicker than I anticipated, and the moment he does, he pounces on me, all kisses.

“I should clean up,” I say breathlessly, even as he pulls me against him, his big arms locking around me.

“Nope,” Leo says. His hand goes between my legs, sending aftershocks of pleasure skittering through me, and I gasp when he pushes two fingers inside my swollen tissues and strokes them. “I like you covered in my scent.”

“You’re a strange man,” I say with a chuckle.

“You have no idea.” He kisses my temple and snuggles me against him, but I notice that his hand stays between my legs in a possessive gesture, as if he’s guarding what belongs to him. “I want you to come stay with me for a while. You said you can work from home, right? Come work from my home.”

Oh, wow. “You don’t think we’re going too fast?”

He snorts. “Not at all. I’m not about to let you get away.”

Strange, indeed.

Sunday night

“Honey, you need to get laid,” Blaze bellowed before tossing back another shot of tequila. “You know, by some outrageously hot guy who’s gonna pin you against the wall and make you beg for mercy.”

I tossed my shot back before I answered her. “Not gonna happen.”

“Please don’t tell me that Adrian was the last guy you got horizontal with.” Blaze’s expression turned serious. “That dude’s the world’s biggest douche.”

“Can’t argue with you there,” I told her, pouring another shot. The last thing I wanted to do tonight was talk about Adrian. Or anyone, for that matter.

I’d spent the entire day at the shop handling three walk-ins, all of whom had wanted tattoos that took more time to prepare for than to actually ink. And now, I wanted to sit back, get wasted, then pass out and sleep until I felt better.

“How was the sex with him, anyway?”

“With who?” I asked, playing dumb.

Blaze narrowed her eyes at me. “Adrian.”

I didn’t miss a beat before I said, “Boring.”

“Really?” Blaze snorted. “I always heard rock stars had it going on.”

“Yeah, well, I think rock stars are the ones who started that rumor.”

Blaze grabbed her shot glass. “You’re probably right about that.”

We downed two more shots, and our laughter continued until the front door opened and in walked Gavin.

As soon as he stepped in the doorway, he stopped cold, watching the two of us closely.

“Wussup, Gav?” Blaze greeted him, her words slurring. She looked at me and grinned. “He’s an outrageously hot guy,” Blaze said in what she probably assumed was a whisper but wasn’t.

“I definitely am,” he agreed, that mischievous smirk on his face. “Is this party just gettin’ started? Or are we about to turn on the decision-maker lights?” Gavin closed the front door behind him and tossed his coat onto one of the barstools, his eyes never straying from us.

“The night’s still young,” Blaze informed him. “Can’t say the same about you, though.”

Gavin continued to watch us. “How much have you had?”

“Not enough,” I admitted, reaching for the bottle to pour more shots. “Now quit acting like an old man and come drink with us.”

“Hold up,” Blaze said, snatching the bottle out of my hand. “Not until he pays the ten-dollar buy-in fee.”

“Buy-in?” A crease formed in Gavin’s forehead. “What the hell’s a buy-in fee? This ain’t poker.”

Blaze pointed a finger in his direction. “I paid for the booze, and you gotta buy in if you want some. Ten dollars.”

Gavin grabbed his wallet out of his back pocket, flipped it open, and pulled out a five-dollar bill, then tossed it in Blaze’s lap.

“Dude, who’s the one who’s been drinkin’ tonight?” Blaze slurred. “That ain’t ten bucks.”

“No, but you bought cheap booze, so there’s a fifty percent discount.”

“Fine. Whatever.” Blaze snatched up the money and tucked it into her bra.

I smiled at Gavin. “Grab another shot glass.”

After a quick detour to the kitchen, Gavin returned, setting his glass down beside the other two, then dropping onto the couch beside Blaze.

With an unsteady hand, Blaze filled all three but ended up with more on the glass table than in the shot glasses.

“What’re we drinking to?” Gavin asked.

“Hot guys nailing us to the wall,” Blaze blurted.

I rolled my eyes.

“Ain’t no guy nailing me to the wall,” Gavin grunted. “Hot or otherwise.”

For whatever reason, I found that funny and ended up downing my shot and nearly shooting it out of my nose.

“I’ve got a question,” Blaze said when the laughter died down.

“No questions from you tonight,” I said immediately, glancing over at Gavin.

As usual, Blaze ignored me. “I wanna know why the two of you have never had sex.”

“Not a question,” Gavin grumbled.

“Okay, fine,” Blaze snapped. “Have the two of you ever had sex?”

“Eww. No,” Gavin and I said in unison.

“Are you fucking serious?” Blaze did not sound convinced.

I placed my shot glass on the table but waved Blaze off when she started to pour me another. “Dead serious.”

“Why?” She looked genuinely confused.

“Because he’s not my type?”

Blaze’s eyes bounced back and forth between us before landing on me. “But he’s hot.”

Yeah, well, I didn’t think so. “I don’t see him like that.”

Gavin was watching Blaze intently and I knew this wasn’t going to be good. For the longest time, I’d gotten the impression that these two had a thing for one another. Although Blaze pretended to be interested in other guys—or maybe she wasn’t pretending—I got the feeling that if Gavin told her to get naked, she’d do it in under three seconds flat.

“What about you two?” I asked, realizing the liquor was now talking for me. “Why haven’t the two of you hooked up?”

Gavin grabbed the bottle and poured another shot, but I noticed he didn’t answer. I looked at Blaze.

“Y’all are best friends,” she said, as though that made some kind of sense.

“So?”

“So, you and I are best friends,” Blaze added.

“Does that make us all best friends?” I asked, trying to do the math in my head.

“No,” Gavin noted. “It means we’re not willing to sacrifice that friendship.”

“Oh.” I watched the two of them for a moment. Then it dawned on me what he meant. “Oooh.”

COVER REVEAL ~ Marked by Rebecca Sherwin

Title: Marked, A Twisted Story

A standalone Novel

Author: Rebecca Sherwin

Genre: Dark erotic suspense

Release Date: February 12th, 2016

Marked - A Twisted Story Ebook

Synopsis

I couldn’t live without pain.

I’d been born into a life of torture and I walked the lonely road of torment, praying for mercy. I was scarred mentally. I was deformed physically. I was mutilated emotionally.

I was a sailor lost at sea, a soul lost in limbo, a shell of a man with no hope.

Until I found her. My fiery-haired, crystal-eyed little one who brought light to a life that knew nothing but darkness.

But she had dark shadows of her own. A past filled with anguish and brutality. A future that promised nothing but the barren life I understood too well.

We were two victims. Two loveless souls searching for something to live for. We were monsters. We were evil. We were doomed.

Our scars ran deep and our grasp on each other depended only on the search for punishment – for the next slice of pain that made us feel alive. We lived for the hurt, we lived for the anger. We lived to mark each other with intensity, belonging, and our own messed up version of recovery.

This isn’t a love story. It’s a story that cuts. It’s a story that captivates. It’s a story that questions morals and crosses the line of sanity.
