RELEASE BLITZ ~ HUNDRED TO ONE by Freya Barker
Posted by Book Loving Pixies
Arlene Bowers is as tough as nails. She has survived a less than perfect marriage, managing to move past it to run her own diner. Her abrasive exterior has always been a way for her to hide behind the darkness and pain that she has endured, but a recent, violent attack and several disturbing phone calls have that tight hold on her emotions wavering.
Seb Griffin showed up in Cedar Tree eight months ago and was hired on at Arlene’s Diner as a cook. An ex-con with secrets of his own, Seb walks a fine line. Since he began working at the diner, he’s developed feelings for his fierce, stubborn boss, and the need to keep his distance from her, to protect her, is a daily struggle.
When it appears that Arlene’s past has come back, rearing its ugly head while her defenses are low, Seb steps up and claims responsibility for Arlene, praying that he can keep her safe from whatever is coming her way.
BOOK 1 in the series
BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy
I’d been looking forward to ‘Hundred to One’ since I put ‘Slim to None’ down.
I really liked Arlene when we met her in book 1. She was a tough cookie, bloody minded and determined, but we got the feeling that there was much more to her – and boy, was there ever!!
Given the hand life had dealt her she was still strong and independent. Through the book she faces some pretty difficult problems ~ things she thought were dead and buried rear their ugly head ~ we find out just what she’s had to put up with and endure in her past and we see the wall she’s built around her start to crack and crumble.
Seb, oh lordy, that man….. I want a Seb for myself!!!!
He was a kinda background character in book #1. We got a glimpse of a protective streak when it came to Arlene but in ‘Hundred to One’ we find out just how he feels about her.
Seb hasn’t had the easiest life either and he’s got a secret that we’re not entirely sure about for a lot of the read. Rough, tough but with a lovely heart, he’s fab!!!
Both have a past, both have been hurt and are a bit broken, but together they might just be able to make themselves whole.
Just like Slim To None, one of my favourite things was the realness of the characters. I could identify with them – they’ve lived through difficult times, have secrets, health issues, hangups and aren’t picture perfect, but for me, they are perfect characters. As with the previous book and characters, the sex, when it happened was hot, steamy and realistic!
There was action, drama and suspense that kept me hooked.
I loved the interaction between Seb & Arlene. We caught up again with Emma and Gus (another fab couple). The friendship, chat and relationship between the 2 lead females in the series is very real and believable.
Freya has got a wee gem of a series on her hands and I can’t wait to read more about the Cedar Tree gang!!!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I love being creative. From an early age on I danced and sang, doodled, created, cooked, baked, quilted and crafted. My latests creative outlets have been influenced by my ever present love for reading. First it was blogging, then cover art and design and lastly writing.
I was born and raised in the Netherlands, had my children there and moved to Canada with two toddlers and eight suitcases, mostly filled with toys. I’m not a stranger to new beginnings. I thrive on them.
With my kids grown and out in the world, I am at the prime of my life – the “Ripe” part of the fruit!! The body might be a bit ramshackle, but the spirit is high and as adventurous as ever. Something you may see reflected here and there in some of my heroines…. none of whom will likely be wilting flowers.
I craved reading about ‘real’ people, those who are perhaps less than perfect, but just as deserving of romance, hot monkey sex and some thrills and chills in their lives, but found too few of them. So I decided to write about them myself. Hope you enjoy them too!!
