Here’s more about Marked by an Assassin, including an excerpt from this paranormal romance novel.
A snow leopard shifter exiled from his pride twenty years ago, Harbin treads the dark path of life as an assassin, driven by a hunger for vengeance, mercilessly hunting the Archangel members who attacked his kin, murdering his mother and sister.
When a new contract comes in and the mark is a snow leopard shifter, he can’t resist venturing into the mortal world on a personal mission to find out why one from a normally peaceful species now has a price on their head. What he finds in a rundown nightclub isn’t quite what he expects—a beautiful snow leopard female that awakens a fierce hunger inside him.
Aya has spent seventeen years living in London, immersed in the underbelly of the fae world, keeping her head down and her tail out of trouble. But when trouble walks right into her life in the form of a sinfully handsome, dangerous assassin, she is pulled into a whirlwind of events that stir up the nightmares of her past but might just give her a shot at putting those ghosts to rest—if she can resist the dark allure of a male she knows is her fated mate.
Can Harbin and Aya resist the passionate fire that blazes between them as they chase the vengeance they both crave? Or will they surrender to their deepest desires?
Marked by an Assassin is available from Amazon Kindle, Kobo Books, Barnes and Noble Nook, Apple iBooks stores and other retailers. Also available in paperback. Find the links to your preferred retailer here:
Excerpt
His leather boots were loud on the polished black stone floor that reflected warm torchlight up at him, a clunk and a scrape as he trudged along the broad arched corridor of the main entrance of the guild, heading towards the first reception room. He adjusted his grip on the black pack slung over his good shoulder and stifled another grimace as he dragged his injured left leg in line with his right and braved another step. Fiery pain bolted up the limb from a point just above his ankle, shooting through his entire body.
Harbin growled under his breath, grinding his teeth together as he bore the pain and forced himself to keep moving. He could rest soon. He could sleep for days and forget his injuries and the fight that had brought him dancing too close to death.
Again.
But, fuck, it had been a good fight. It had been worth it. The pain. The taste of blood on his tongue. The sharp crack of bones breaking beneath his fists and the metallic tang flooding the air as his claws rendered flesh. A judder went through him, a brief flare of pleasure that wracked his tired and battered body. It had been worth it, for that momentary and elusive sense of calm and belonging, of retribution and release, and the one thing he craved above all others. The one thing that fuelled him, drove him to keep striding forwards, stopping him from looking back, and that he did his best to pretend didn’t exist inside him like an eternal bloody flame.
Penance.
Penitence.
Harbin pushed away from those two words. They had no place inside him. They were impossible for him to achieve, the one thing beyond his grasp, forever just out of reach. His sins were too great. Atonement was nothing more than a dream.
Or maybe a nightmare.
One that haunted him despite his best efforts to escape it.
Voices rang along the black walled corridor towards him and he ignored them, not interested in the idle banter of the rest of the guild males as they took a welcomed breather from their profession in the safety of their home. He was only interested in taking a breather himself. A long one. Maybe those days might roll into a week of sleep.
He sighed at the thought.
His broken body probably needed that much rest in order to recuperate swiftly, and gods knew his mind needed that amount of time to pull itself back together. Unlike some members of the guild, he didn’t have the advantage of being able to accelerate his healing process. The elves were lucky sons of bitches.
Although, you couldn’t pay Harbin enough to make him switch places with Fuery. The male’s eyes were verging on black now, only a sliver of violet remaining around his pupils like a dying corona of the light in him. How long before Fuery lost himself to the darkness?
Hartt, the chief and founder of their guild, often wore a look when he was watching Fuery, one that told Harbin that the elf knew their comrade was circling the drain and it was only a matter of time before the darkness consumed the last of him and transformed him into something straight out of a nightmare.
Harbin dragged his bad leg up and managed another step, quickly shifting his right before his fractured tibia gave out under his weight. It was times like these, when he was fresh from what had felt like more of a war than a fight, but had emerged the victor against all odds, that he couldn’t help wondering just what colour his eyes would be if the darkness that lived within him could show in them just as it could with the elves.
Would they be darker than midnight?
Was he as close to falling into the abyss as Fuery was?
On days like today, he felt as if he was. Every inch of him hurt now as it sank in that he was home and his mission was done, but it wasn’t a physical pain. He could no longer feel the hot burn of his wounds. He could only feel the cold burn of the hollow inside of him, the scraped out chasm where his heart used to be.
Harbin idly rubbed his chest with his free hand, not feeling the pain as his left shoulder blazed, his healing skin rupturing again beneath his tight black t-shirt. Warm wetness bloomed there, soaking into the cloth before trickling down his biceps.
“You look like hell,” someone muttered as they passed him, heading towards the doors.
Harbin ignored them and kept moving forwards, determined to reach the sanctuary of his quarters and lock himself away for a week of uninterrupted sleep.
He finally stepped into the first reception room, an equally black affair that had always looked as cold and imposing to him as he supposed it was meant to be. Hartt had done a good job of creating the perfect image for their guild, building a black fortress in the middle of what had once been little more than a wasteland in the free realm of Hell. An entire town had sprung up around the guild, catering to those who were drawn to it, either as a client.
Or an assassin.
Harbin had visited other assassin guilds in Hell and none had the nightmarish quality of their home. He put half of their business down to pure aesthetics. People saw the guild and it matched the image in their head of what an assassin’s home should look like—cold, dark and dangerous—and they gave it their business. Hartt had been a clever son of a bitch when he had started the guild all those centuries ago. The elf certainly had a head for business.
One that matched his head for killing.
“Hartt’s seeing people about it now.”
Harbin glanced across at two young males where they lounged in the horseshoe of black velvet couches near the unlit monstrosity of a marble fireplace to his left. They were both new recruits as far as the other guild members were concerned, having only completed a few easy jobs for little pay.
The blond raked his fingers through his short hair and cracked a wide grin. “I might go for it.”
Harbin snorted at that at the same time as the young wolf male reclining near the blond.
“I’d pay double to see you go up against a shifter… and a cat no less. At least that Harbin guy isn’t around to hear about it.”
That stopped Harbin in his tracks and he frowned across at the two males, studying the brunet wolf to see if he was speaking the truth. A cat shifter?
He had turned towards them before he had even contemplated moving and was at the back of the couch where the wolf shifter lounged before he had even realised he had moved. He stared down at the pup and the male slowly lifted golden eyes to him, his expression falling slack and lips parting as he took him in.
Harbin couldn’t blame the kid for looking shocked at the sight of him. He rarely interacted with the other assassins, definitely never with the rookies, and he probably looked as if he had been dragged through the darkest reaches of Hell.
Which he had.
“Cat shifter?” he said and the male nodded dumbly. “Hartt has a job requiring the elimination of a cat shifter?”
The wolf gathered his wits and shot him a cocky smile, one that irritated Harbin because it said what the wolf wouldn’t. It asked whether he was hard of hearing or just plain crazy. He hadn’t lost his mind. Not yet anyway. He just wanted to be sure that he had heard things right, because in the close to twenty years that he had worked with Hartt as an assassin, there had never been a job involving a cat shifter.
The blond kid got off the other couch and quickly crossed to his friend, hunkering down beside him and bringing his mouth close to the wolf’s ear.
“What the hell are you doing? That’s Harbin… Hartt said not to mention it around him,” the blond whispered so low he practically mouthed the words, but Harbin’s sensitive ears picked them up.
Harbin narrowed his silver eyes on both males, his lips compressing into a thin line as he contemplated the only reason why Hartt would want to hand out the job before Harbin could hear about it.
The cat shifter was a snow leopard.
He growled, flashing short fangs at the males, and shoved away from the couches, limping quickly across the black floor towards the door in the corner of the room to his left that would lead him to Hartt’s office. He shoved it open, the slam of it hitting the black wall on the other side echoing around the room at his back and the corridor in front of him, and snarled as he picked up his pace. His left leg trembled under the strain but he gritted his teeth and pushed onwards, the fire burning up his blood keeping him going.
Someone had put a contract on a snow leopard shifter, one of his kind, and he wanted the details.
He wanted to know why Hartt wouldn’t give the job to him.
Silvery fur rippled over his forearms before he could stop it, a brief flash of his other form brought out by his agitation. He sucked down a breath and controlled it, his skin cooling as the fur disappeared.
It wasn’t as if he held any allegiance to his kin anymore. He had burned that bridge twenty years ago and there was no way in Hell of reconstructing the charred remains of it. The thought that Hartt believed he was incapable of dealing with a snow leopard shifter mark was insulting. He could be as methodical and removed from the situation as he always was. The rage that had consumed him in the aftermath of the event that had driven him from his pride had made sure of that. It had killed all of his softer emotions and only a hunger for bloodshed and death remained.
He passed several doors to other offices, his own included, his gaze locked on the black door at the end of the corridor ahead of him. If Hartt was in an interview, the assassin in question was about to get a rude interruption and shown the door in a not too friendly fashion.
Harbin slammed the flat of his left palm into the door and it flew open.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy
It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a paranormal junkie – I love the genre and Shifters in particular, so this installment of the Eternal Mates series was right up my street!!
I have a real love of the world that Felicity Heaton brings to life in this series. Her layering and world building makes it easy to picture in your mind the scenes in the book as they play out. There’s an overlap of other stories that can be found in each book, it’s subtle but ties together very nicely and gives you a ‘Oh yeah, that happened in xxxx’s story’ moment when you are reading. For me, this continuity and the consistent timelines that Felicity threads through the books all add to the story arc.
Marked by an Assassin is Harbin and Aya’s book. Both are snow leopards living far from their homeland but they have a connection – in more ways than one!!
The Assassins Guild that Harbin works for has been hired to hunt down and kill a snow leopard, a task that our hero makes sure he gets to take on as he is intrigued as to what the shifter has done to warrant the hit. At first, he doesn’t recognise Aya as one of his pride as he’s been gone from his village for two decades after being used and duped by an Archangel huntress. He has become hardened and cold since the events all those years ago and is determined that he will carry out his job and it’ll be nothing more than another assignment, even though the mark is another snow leopard, but when he encounters the female things don’t go quite to plan.
Aya lives in London, keeping her head down and flitting among the fae, and has done since not long after the night the Archangel team decimated her village and killed their kin. She seems to be a mark in this game but as things progress Harbin stats to wonder, is she as innocent as she seems or is there more going on that at first glance?
The story is action packed as you’d expect from Ms Heaton. There are secrets and lies, betrayals, a deep need for revenge on both their parts but is it for the right reasons? The connection and chemistry between our leads is obvious pretty much from the start though it takes one of them a little longer to realise what’s going on and when the penny finally drops they have to make some tough choices and decide what they should do for the best.
We meet up again with some of the characters we have already been introduced to in the series so far and get a glimpse into one or two characters who I’m hoping will have their own stories to tell in the future! 😉
Another great read and addition to the Eternal Mates series. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!
For me it’s a 5* read!

Her Sinful Angel – Excerpt
Nina groaned and rolled onto her back, tossing her right arm above her head. Rather than the expected soft pillow, it struck something firmly padded. She loosed another muffled moan and frowned, the urge to open her sore eyes and see what she had hit dampened by the riot in her head. Sweat trickled between her breasts and soaked her back where it pressed into the hard whatever it was she was lying on.
Her couch?
She couldn’t remember it being this uncomfortable.
But if it wasn’t her couch, what was it?
More than that, where was she?
Her frown deepened as she tried to recall whether she had gone out after work with her small group of friends, had possibly had a little too much to drink, and had ended up on one of their couches.
She couldn’t remember anything after leaving work for the evening.
A prickling sensation ran down her spine and over her limbs, and she pulled down a sharp breath. She had probably drunk a little too much. It had been a Friday night after all. It wouldn’t be the first time she had taken things too far when attempting to unwind and forget her worries.
A scuffing sound sent another bolt of panic through her bones and she cracked her eyes open, an apology to whichever friend had taken her in balanced on her lips.
Those words fled her when her gaze settled straight on a tall elegantly dressed black-haired man who stood a few feet from her, staring down at her with eyes the colour of pure gold.
Incredible.
But also terrifying.
She didn’t know this man.
Nina shoved herself up on the seat, her damp palms gripping the black velvet and giving her purchase. Every instinct she possessed said to flee, to make an excuse and run like hell, but her head turned violently and all she could do was bite out a moan from between clenched teeth and press her left hand to her forehead.
“You are unwell?” The deep lush male voice washed over her like a soothing balm, easing the pain in her skull and her fear at the same time.
He moved, the soft click of his heels alerting her that he was drawing closer. Her panic went into overdrive again and she scrambled backwards to place some distance between them, hit nothing where the rear of the couch should have been, and landed hard on a cold floor with her legs sticking up in the air.
She stared in surprise at her tights-clad feet and the dark ceiling beyond them, needing a moment to take in what had just happened.
The man appeared above her, his head canting and his golden eyes narrowing as he looked down at her. “Did you hurt yourself?”
Nina quickly shook her head and clutched at the hem of her black skirt, keeping it covering her thighs. She had already made a fool of herself. She didn’t need to go adding flashing her knickers at this man to that. Besides, she still wasn’t sure who he was, how she knew him, or where she was. A flash of panties might be seen as an invitation, and as handsome as this man was, she wasn’t about to invite him between her legs, no matter how long it had been since she had slept with a guy.
She rolled onto her side and scrambled back onto her feet, practically leaping onto them to evade the hand he offered. He stared at his outstretched hand as she smoothed her skirt down, his left eyebrow quirking in a manner that looked a heck of a lot like irritation to her.
When he moved, she expected him to advance towards her.
He retreated instead, backing towards an unlit black marble fireplace against an equally black wall behind him and lowering his hand to his side at the same time.
Nina looked around her as something dawned on her.
Everything in the damned room was black.
Where the hell was she? Some sort of goth retreat?
“There is no need to panic. I do not mean you any harm. You were left in the courtyard of this house and were brought in to keep you safe.”
Nina’s gaze whipped back to the handsome man.
And hell, he was handsome. The sort of man that could have a horde of women swooning with little more than a smile, their knees buckling beneath them. She wasn’t immune to his beauty. She wasn’t sure any woman would be able to say that she was. If they did, they would be a liar.
He oozed wicked sensuality as he stared across the room at her, his golden eyes fixed with hawk-like intensity on hers and his soft lips tilted at the corners into a hint of a smile.
Nina shook her head to rid it of the dangerous thoughts piling up in it and focused on what the man had said.
“Keep me safe?” She frowned at that, another ripple of panic running through her as she tried to guess the answer to that question and feared what he would say.
He toyed with the left cuff of his black shirt and then smoothed the fine sleeve of his black suit jacket over it, carefully adjusting it until it was perfect.
Just like him.
Nina shoved that little voice out of her head, determined to focus on the matter at hand and not the man at hand. She was in a strange place, in a stranger’s house, and he was saying that she was in danger.
“You are safe now,” he said with silken persuasiveness that had her dumbly nodding in agreement even when she didn’t honestly feel safe. “The man who brought you here is gone.”
“A man?” Nina’s eyes widened as she tried to remember what had happened to her but her mind remained blank, refusing to supply anything beyond leaving work for the evening.
He nodded and smiled, and it hit her hard in the chest, knocking the wind from her and sending her head spinning.
Her panic returned full force. “I want to go home.”
The man’s smile held. “I am afraid that is not possible yet, but arrangements will be made for your return. If you tell me where you live, I will pass on the information and they will see to it.”
They? Pass on the information? Was he the master of this house or a servant?
“London… I live in London. Anywhere in London will do.” She figured it couldn’t hurt to tell him the city she was from, but she wasn’t about to hand out her address to him. She still wasn’t sure whether there was another man who had taken her, or whether it was an elaborate lie to throw her off his scent.
What if this man had been the one to take her?
She twisted her hand in her white blouse, tugging at the material, struggling to breathe as a weight pressed down on her chest and she fought the wave of panic that threatened to sweep her away. She had to focus.
Her gaze fell to his hands as he toyed with his cuff again, neatening it, and her eyebrows pinched together. He had black nails. Why did he have black nails? Everything about him screamed businessman or butler, but he had black painted nails. She stared at them, unable to drag her eyes away. They were a bit too polished and impeccable. Were they false nails?
Acrylic?
They distracted her and she lost herself in pondering what they were made from and why he had black nails. It was only when the sensation of his piercing gaze on her faded and he moved his hands behind his back that she snapped back to the room. What was wrong with her today?
She was normally quite focused, but she felt foggy, her mind all over the place and easily lured into concentrating on the smallest things when the bigger picture was demanding her attention. She was starting to get the impression that it wasn’t purely panic altering her behaviour, and that only panicked her further.
“You should breathe.” Those three softly spoken words had her lifting her gaze back to the man’s sober face. The moment their eyes locked, her fear subsided again and the weight on her chest began to dissipate.
Nina breathed slowly but steadily, drawing each breath deep into her lungs.
“Can you recall what happened to you?” he said.
She lowered her eyes to her bare feet, her dark stockings not quite black enough to make them blend into the cool stone floor, and frowned as she searched for an answer to his question.
“I remember leaving work.” Nina looked down at her blouse, at the gash in the soft white material, and wondered for what felt like the hundredth time what had happened between leaving work and waking in this strange room.
Her head ached, throbbing deeply as she struggled to capture the barest sliver of a memory, just one moment that might help her understand what had happened to her. When the ache became a stabbing pain that felt as if someone was pushing a hot needle through her brain, she pressed her hand to her forehead, screwed her eyes shut and grimaced.
A flash of a shadowy figure blasted across her mind.
A man.
Nina raised her chin and opened her eyes, staring across the room at the black-haired man. “You were right. There was a man… but I can’t remember what he looked like.”
She tried but her head hurt so much that her stomach turned, sickness brewing there as the pain intensified. What had the man done to her? Was it drugs? Was that why her brain was so fuzzy?
“Do you know of any reason why someone might want to harm you?” The man took a step towards her and fear clashed with panic again, welling up to stir the sickness in her belly and bring bile up her throat.
She backed off a few steps, shaking her head in denial even though her heart and head screamed that there might be. It was entirely possible that someone was out to hurt her, and that meant that everything the man said had happened, had happened.
Someone had grabbed her, drugged her, and this man or someone from this house had saved her.
Nina’s back hit a wall and she gasped. The man’s eyes narrowed on her and she looked away, afraid he would see the truth in her eyes. She didn’t want him to get into trouble because of her, at least not any more than he already had.
Had he been the one to save her?
Her throat closed again as she thought about that, sure he must have fought the man off in order to help her. She squeezed her eyes shut and pressed her palms against the wall behind her, her fingertips clawing at the smooth surface as she tried to anchor herself in the swirling storm of her emotions.
“I want to leave.” She managed to get the words out but they were quiet, lacking the force and conviction she had wanted to convey in them.
Because part of her didn’t want to leave. Part of her feared what was waiting for her out there. If he had sent someone to take her once, he could send someone again. She had known him too long to believe he would just let her go. She should have been on her guard after rejecting him. She should have expected him to pursue her with the same aggressive intent as he had the time she had fallen in love with him.
Before he had crushed her.
The man’s gaze bore into her, commanding her to open her eyes and look at him, to find the strength to say those words with more conviction so he would let her leave.
She had to protect him.
He didn’t know what he had become involved in by helping her and she didn’t want him to pay for his kindness.
Not as she had paid for hers so many times and in so many ways.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy
I’ve been looking forward to finding out more about Lucifer since we met him in Veiron & Erin’s book, Her Demonic Angel.
You know the view of the devil we have, he’s nasty, cold, abusive and has no feelings…. yeah, well, Felicity totally blew that out of the water when she gave us Her Sinful Angel. She showed us that there was another side to the ruler of the underworld that no-one would have ever thought possible.
Lucifer was, IMO, quite endearing. His attitude towards Nina initially was one of distrust and that was understandable given how she had arrived in Hell and the games that the realms had played previously.
The attraction between the pair is undeniable but the uncertainty on both parts about their feelings and what is causing them saw them both pull back to try to work out what was going on.
Their story was actually really sweet and developed steadily into the sensual, hot and heady read that we’ve come to love from Ms Heaton.
Nina was a great character, a human with absolutely no idea that there was anything more than the mortal world in existence, she was exactly what Lucifer needed though he himself didn’t know it!!
His story was actually kinda sad – hearing of his fall from Heaven and his thoughts and feelings around what happened to him and why gave us a different perspective to his personality and those who had banished him.
Her Sinful Angel could easily be read as a standalone but as Veiron and Erin make an appearance in the story a read of book 5, Her Demonic Angel would help make sense of the relationships & some of the things that happen in Lucifer’s book!
Another hit for Felicity and a definite new favourite of mine, Her Sinful Angel is a solid 5* and recommended read!!

EXCERPT FROM REDEMPTION BY BONNIE VANAK
When she returned with the beverages, Robert was busy talking with Guy, while Helen and Melanie chatted. She noticed Melanie had moved closer to Robert, as if staking a claim. Such a cozy foursome. The sight made her feel lonely, and more of an outsider than ever. She set Robert’s coffee down before him, along with a container of cinnamon sticks. As he glanced up, she managed a smile.
“Susan told me you like cinnamon with your coffee.”
“Thanks. As I said, you’re a quick study.”
“I’m ready to order,” Melanie cut in. “Must we wait forever?”
The woman clearly did not like her. Was it because Melanie wished to become Robert’s mate and she’d heard Robert’s plans to mate with Aurora?
Aurora jotted down their orders, and murmured that they would be ready soon. She could feel Robert’s gaze burning into her back as she scurried off.
The table next to them needed coffee, so she hurried back with the full pot. Melanie, sitting at the booth’s end, stuck out a foot. Aurora noticed too late and tripped.
She fell hard, the coffee pot shattering and spilling hot liquid over her arm. Lupines throughout the cafe gasped and Aurora lay for a long, awful moment on the floor, wishing it would swallow her.
Cursing, Robert leapt up and crouched down by her, barking out an order for cold towels and the First Aid kit. Melanie looked at her with false concern. “I’m so sorry, Aurora. I was just stretching at the wrong time, and didn’t see you.”
“Shut up, Mel,” Robert snapped. “Aurora, let me see your arm.”
“It’s okay.” Aurora sat up. “I’m fine.”
A-okay, just fine, please don’t look, go away…
“Let me see. I know it must hurt like hell.” He gently took her arm and turned it over. His concern turned to sharp surprise.
“You’re not burned. “
Aurora pulled away, feeling her cheeks heat. “The coffee wasn’t that hot.”
“That coffee was scalding. Susan always keeps it that way.” Robert gave her an assessing look. “Why aren’t you burned?”
“I have to clean up this mess.” She knelt and began picked up the shards of glass, but Robert stayed her hand. He gave a hard glance around the room and suddenly a horde of Lupines were picking up the glass, while others rushed over with a mop and broom.
She had seldom seen such quiet, efficient obedience to a non-verbal command. It testified to Robert’s power as an alpha. He might joke about the pack not listening to him, but clearly he was in charge.
He guided her to a quiet, empty table on the café’s other side. “Sit.”
Aurora refused to meet his gaze, but he sat next to her, clasped her chin and lifted her face upward. His dark green gaze was both intrigued and troubled. A Lupine hurried over with a wet towel. Robert thanked and dismissed him, turning back to Aurora as he gently placed it over her arm. It was cold and she shivered.
She hated the cold.
“Why aren’t you burned?” he repeated. “What are you?”
“Mage. You know this.” She wished for the millionth time that she was normal.
“Mages burn like most Others. Not you.”
She thought quickly. “I’m a slave. Cadeyrn… endowed me with special talents to ensure his investment wouldn’t be harmed if I had an industrial accident.”
“Liar,” he said softly. “The Shadow Wizard isn’t that generous with his protective powers.”
“Maybe I’m just different.” She removed the towel from her arm and placed it on the table.
His mouth twisted in a wry smile. “You are different, Aurora.” Releasing her chin, he stroked a single finger over her unblemished arm. “Quite different. Such soft skin, so smooth.”
Then he dropped his hand and something sparked in his gaze, something deep and bonding, as if he saw beyond her uniform, through her flesh to her very soul. It thrilled and disturbed her because it spoke of a deeper connection, one she did not want.
Sex was one thing. If she must breed this alpha’s heir, then so be it. But she didn’t want to bond with him, or grow close. After her experience with the two-faced witch, Aurora didn’t trust anyone. Her mission to free Emily was her driving force behind surviving slavery. She would open her legs and let him do what men liked to do to women.
But trust him? Never. Fall for him and open her heart? Never.
Robert’s lips parted as he stared at her mouth. Her body tightened and the space between her legs felt tender, open with yearning.
“You’ve got the most amazing mouth,” he murmured.
She moistened her lips.
“Don’t do that. It makes me want to kiss you.”
“Is that such a bad thing?”
Shut up, Aurora. Gods, was this her talking? The woman who shunned all male contact, determined to stay the course and do whatever she must to save her sister?
“No. But we’re in a very public place, and if I kiss you, I’ll want more than a kiss. It could be quite dangerous.” He leaned close, his powerful cedar and sandalwood scent enveloping her.
Noise from the café’s chatter suddenly faded away, as if they were alone. She became aware of him as more than a wolf. He was suddenly all man, with the sexy bristles covering his strong jaw and chin, the penetrating green of his eyes, the sensual curve of his mouth. Kissing him would be more than flirting with danger.
It could lead to other things, and she must remain focused until the time came for him to bed her and conceive his longed-for heir.
But part of her longed for a kiss.
EXCERPT FROM HER SINFUL ANGEL BY FELICITY HEATON
A pale orange glow lit the wall of black rock beneath the plateau, adding a dash of colour.
Lucifer despised that band of gold.
The lava river encircled his fortress and marked a boundary that by law he couldn’t cross, not until the time between his scheduled battles with Apollyon, an angel who had served Heaven for centuries before turning his back on that realm for the sake of a woman, had passed.
Lucifer hadn’t won one in centuries. He had taken several for the team without receiving any shred of gratitude in return, allowing the angel to defeat him so he would remain trapped in the bottomless pit and a band of fallen angels bent on destroying the mortal world would remain caged here with him.
Of course, it might have helped if he had informed Apollyon that he was losing on purpose, but storing up his losses and waiting for the perfect opportunity to mention to the angel what he had been doing all these millennia had been too enticing to resist.
His smile stretched a little wider.
It had been most satisfying to reveal to the angel just a few weeks ago that his hard won victories had been hollow and see the look on the bastard’s face.
The momentary flicker of pleasure that shot through his veins dimmed as he lowered his gaze back to the courtyard and it fixed on the current thorn in his side.
There was no chance of improving his mood now. It had hit rock bottom, thanks to a certain angel of Heaven.
Mihail.
When he discovered who had awoken the angel to his true purpose, restoring his memories at the same time, he would send his finest legion to Heaven to destroy them.
The angel flicked his long white hair over his shoulder but kept his icy blue eyes locked on Lucifer. The silent challenge they issued didn’t go unnoticed, but Lucifer knew better than to rise to it. Mihail couldn’t enter his fortress, thanks to powerful wards Lucifer had put in place after their last battle.
A fight that had seen almost half of Hell destroyed and turned to rubble.
Lucifer had enjoyed the millennia of peace that had come afterwards. Battling Apollyon was merely a workout for him, but fighting Mihail was a war and one that could easily claim his life. Only Mihail held the power to truly defeat him. Apollyon could only wound him.
Mihail could kill him.
Lucifer had no interest in dying and being thrust into limbo, wandering eternity as nothing more than a soul, maddened by being caged in a bleak world where he couldn’t communicate with those around him and tormented by his sins.
Not until he had settled a score with his former master and had his vengeance.
Not even then.
He never wanted to go to that dark place few angels knew existed.
Those who didn’t know of it had no fear of death, trusting they would be reborn in Heaven upon their demise, restored to their former glory, albeit without memories of their previous life.
The fools.
Lucifer knew better.
He had seen the corrupted souls of angels in the far reaches of his realm, heard their whispers on the wind and felt their suffering in his blood.
True death was possible for any angel.
He knew because he had killed one on occasion, damning them to a hellish existence.
Lucifer would damn Mihail in the same manner without even flinching if he had the chance.
The white-haired angel moved a step closer, his enormous glossy white wings shifting with the action, stark against the black pavement of the semi-circular courtyard and the obsidian armour he wore. The patches of golden skin visible between the black greaves that encased his shins, the strips of black that protected his hips, his short black breastplate and his vambraces that shielded his forearms bore tattoos now when once they had been clean and pure.
Lucifer’s smile returned.
Mostly because he felt sure that the bastard angel despised those tattoos and the one who had put them there—the fallen angel this male was linked to through duty and powers.
If Lucifer had the power, he would gift those angels who were linked to Mihail and his brethren with the ability to do more than merely change their skin by adding ink that would also appear on their counterpart. He would give them the power to amend their appearance in other ways. He wasn’t talking about haircuts and piercings.
He was talking about wounds.
Mihail spread his white wings, regaining Lucifer’s attention, but not for long. It drifted away again, his gaze roaming downwards and across the courtyard, to the prone mortal that lay like an offering on an altar between his fortress and the angel.
A woman.
Lucifer’s golden gaze narrowed on her and questions filled his mind again, ones that wouldn’t be ignored this time. Why had Mihail dumped an unconscious female in his courtyard?
Was she bait?
If the male thought he would leave the safety of his fortress for the sake of a mere mortal female, the fool was mistaken.
He eyed the female in question.
She had hair the colour of autumn leaves threaded with gold, strewn like the river of lava he so despised across the obsidian flagstones. Her skin was pale beneath the black dust that spotted it and the tear across the stomach of her white blouse. The thin shirt gaped open at the collar, and the angle of her body, with her shoulders flat against the paving and her arms resting above her head, caused the curve of one breast to show together with a hint of cream lace.
She looked weak like that.
Vulnerable.
Submissive.
Lucifer canted his head and allowed his gaze to drift over her. Her hips lay rotated, her left one raised and her knee pressing against the flagstones, pointed towards him. The short black skirt she wore rode high on that leg, revealing a long rip in her stockings.
What had Mihail done to the female before laying her out like a virgin sacrifice in his courtyard?
Lucifer growled low in his throat, the urge to leave his fortress and beat an answer out of the angel racing through his blood, setting it on fire. He had no love for mortals, and no use for females of their race when he had given up attempting to sire another child, but the sight of the woman stirred darkness in his veins, a deep and commanding need that he couldn’t quite decipher.
The angel backed off a step, his pale blue eyes still locked on Lucifer.
He was up to something. Playing the snake to his Adam, and she was the forbidden fruit. Lucifer wouldn’t be tempted though. He was stronger than the angel believed. More cunning.
Two of his angels flew over the tall spires of black rock that surrounded the courtyard and fortress, their crimson wings urgently beating the hot air as their scarlet eyes scoured the flagstones. Mihail turned to face them and the angels broke apart, keeping their distance from the male. They followed the curve of the wall towards the fortress and landed close to it, their wings furling against their red-edged obsidian armour as they touched down.
The larger of the two males rolled his shoulders and stomped forwards, cautiously approaching the female.
The other drew a long curved black blade from the air and set his sights on Mihail, snarling at him through twin rows of sharp teeth.
The angel of Heaven backed off a few steps before turning away and taking flight, heading back over the spires of rock towards the plateau.
Interesting.
Lucifer lowered his gaze back to his men. They warily approached the prone female. With good reason. He had ordered them to retrieve her and bring her to the entrance of his fortress. He hadn’t told them why. He had only warned them not to test his temper. No doubt they thought just eyeing the woman would be enough to have him trussing them up for punishment.
The larger Hell’s angel scooped the female up into his thickly-muscled arms and she rolled towards him, her cheek coming to rest against his hard breastplate.
A growl curled from Lucifer’s lips, rumbling up from the pit of his soul. He frowned at the hot need that pumped through his veins, a visceral ache that demanded he go down and take the female from his man and punish the maggot for touching her.
He clenched his fists at his sides, grimaced as his short black claws bit into his palms, and sharply turned away from the window. The female was nothing. The only reason he was bringing her into his home was because he wanted answers. He wanted to know why Mihail had brought her to Hell. He wanted to find out whether she was a trap for him and she was in on the plan.
Lucifer strode from the study and banked right along the corridor. Beyond the end of the hallway, the entire fortress opened up into a cathedral-like room in the centre of his home. He stepped out onto the walkway that ran around the one hundred foot high space and headed down the floating black stone staircase that cut directly across the enormous room and connected the third floor to the second one. Above him to his right, the steps to the fourth floor flowed upwards.
Warm light from the gilded bone chandeliers that hung from the underside of the staircases flooded the room and washed over him, giving more colour to his skin. He glanced down at his left hand, closed his eyes, and turned away from it and the memories of a time when his skin had been as golden as many of the angels who joined the ranks of his men on falling.
A time when he had flown carefree in the world of mortals and had lived to serve his purpose.
A time before he had realised what his true purpose was.
Lucifer ground his teeth, shoved those memories away, locking them back deep inside him where they belonged, and strode onwards, following the open-sided staircases as they criss-crossed the high room. Below him, the tall twin doors of the fortress opened and the heavy thud of boots echoed up to him. He glanced down at the two Hell’s angels, issuing a silent command to halt and wait for him.
He would take their new guest from here.
Lucifer stepped down onto the polished black floor of the entrance hall and took swift strides across it, his Italian leather shoes clicking with each determined step. As he approached, the two angels bent their heads, and the larger one held the female out to him.
He reached for her and tensed as an unfamiliar sensation shot down his arms and pooled in the pit of his chest, stopping him from taking hold of her.
It took him a moment to name the emotion.
Apprehension.
Lucifer sneered at the feeling and crushed it out of existence. The mortal was weak. If she was in league with the angels, he would crush her out of existence too. There was no need to fear her. She was no threat to him. There wasn’t even a need to fear Mihail.
He took the redhead from his man, cradling her with one arm behind her back and the other tucked under her knees, and turned away from the angels to head for the stairs. Once she was conscious, he would begin questioning her, and if she spoke a lie he would know it. If she wasn’t in on Mihail’s plan, then he would keep her alive. She would become bait for the angel. The male was sure to return to take her back from him sooner or later.
Lucifer didn’t care which it was. He had infinite patience when it came to taking down an enemy, and Mihail’s demise was long past due.
He took the first step and paused as he glanced down at his cargo. Soft pink lips parted as her head lolled away from his chest, her breath escaping her on a little sigh. Russet brown eyebrows puckered and then smoothed, and Lucifer canted his head.
The world around him fell into silence as he studied her face, caught up in wondering what she was dreaming.
She wasn’t a threat to him.
She was nothing but a mere mortal.
A weak creature he could end with little more than a thought.
So why did the weight of her in his arms, the warmth of her body against his, and the scent of her curling around him all feel dangerous to him?
