It’s then that Aidan bursts through the door, holding something in his hand. He thrusts it out in front of him, scrunching his nose. “Did you get me this, Mom? It came in the box with my game. It was in a container, but I took it out.”
Shock renders me mute and still, like a pillar of salt. Especially since I can feel the intense scrutiny of Jace’s eyes. There’s no way Aidan knows what he’s holding, but Jace must know.
No, no, no, no, no, this can’t be happening.
The vibrator wasn’t supposed to come until tomorrow. Why would they pack it with a children’s board game?
A twisted sense of humor? A lack of reasonable bathroom breaks in the warehouse?
Aidan waves the bright pink vibrator around.
“There’s a little rabbit on it. Is it some kind of toy for Christmas? The package says it’s a magic wand that’s supposed to make people moan, but they spelled magic with a k, and it didn’t come with a spell book or anything.” He pulls a face. “I guess I can just use it with the Harry Potter spells. It does vibrate like it’s doing magic, and it can whirl in circles too.”
A short laugh sputters out of Jace.
My face is so red, it might as well be a fire truck. Magik wand. At least the name offers a reasonable explanation. For a six-year-old. God help me, I can’t bear to look at Jace.
I make a grab for the vibrator, but Aidan evades me.
“Why’d you get it in pink, Mom? You know green’s my favorite color.”
Jace clears his throat, but nope, I still can’t look at him. He’s not laughing anymore, but I know he probably wants to. Who wouldn’t? If he did feel some sort of passing attraction to me before this, he certainly doesn’t now.
“Aidan,” Jace says slowly, his voice husky. “There are toys for adults too. That’s probably something your mom got as a treat for herself, although I’m sure she’ll get you a Harry Potter wand for Christmas if you want one. Let her have it.”
Aidan does, which is what I wanted, but then I have a vibrator in my hand.I think for a moment and then stuff it into my bag. The tip instantly pops out, unmistakable.
What is happening to me?
“It must be some kind of mistake,” I say, finally forcing myself to meet Jace’s gaze. “I didn’t order this. I wouldn’t…”
I thought I’d see laughter there, because he’s only human, but all traces of it are gone, and now he’s looking at me like I’m the last slice of birthday cake at an office birthday party. No, like I’m the first.

I bought the first book in the Bad Luck Club when it came out but so far haven’t read it….. and I’m kinda annoyed at myself for not having picked it up if Jingle Bell Hell is anything to go by!!!
I ADORED Mary and Jace. As opposite as they could be they were perfect for each other and that Jace was as good as he was with Aidan, Mary’s young son – even before he met his mother – was just fab.
Both have had a pretty rough time of things, Jace more so and for very different reasons than we’d expect. Finding each other and bringing life and colour to each other’s lives was exactly what they needed.
The cast of supporting characters were fantastic, I especially loved Jace’s elderly neighbours, Nicole (gods, the gal has NO filter and is a hoot for it) and Mary’s sisters Molly & Maisie.
This was a fabulous feel good read that showed there’s someone for everyone and that the most unexpected people can help change your life when you least expect it!
I’m off to read Molly & Cal’s book and I’ve already pre-ordered the third book in the series…. I just know that is gonna be another hit!

Going into The Boss I didn’t know what to expect. I hadn’t read it in it’s previous life as a short story, didn’t check out the blurb or anything about it and I was pleasantly surprise by how things turned out.
Evie is on the run when she seems to stumble from one life threatening interaction to another. Interestingly enough, things aren’t quite gonna go as she fears and she’s handed a life line of sorts…. But can she trust The Boss and why would he want to help her?.
Matteo… for a while I just wasn’t sure what to make of him.. was he dark or light, saviour or jailer… but as we read on we find out there’s much more to this man than meets the eye and he’s maybe more shadow than anything else!
Things move quickly in this read, feelings, events, thoughts and actions but I loved every minute of it and it all added to the uncertainty that the characters felt and the connection that was being built.
The backstory to how Matteo got to where he was had my heart hurting and I understood the path he’d taken but I was more than happy that he’d encountered Evie and that she added some colour and warmth to his world.
I’m looking forward to the next instalment in the Men of Hidden Justice series.

He fiddles with his tie. “Otherwise, I’ll be back upstairs in a few hours, and we can head up to legal. You’ll be communicating with them a lot, and I want to make the introductions.”
“Okay,” I say, following his lead and standing.
He comes around the corner of his desk and stops a few feet in front of me.
Our eyes lock, his irises shifting colors again—deepening—as he takes me in. If we were in another place—any other place—at another time—besides the office in which we both work—I’d raise on my tiptoes and kiss him.
At least, I think that’s what I would do. It’s been so long. But the version of me that lives in my head and plays out fictional romantic interludes believes that’s what would happen.
My mouth goes dry, and my lips are downright parched. But as the reel of the make-believe kiss we’d share finishes in my head, I scamper back to reality and the fact that he’s my boss. And no matter how kissable he is or what I wouldn’t give to lean in to this feeling—the one that feels pretty and desired—I don’t.
I can’t.

Bodhi and Trin made great main characters. I loved Trin’s strength of character and determination and the way she raised Tucker on her own. Bodhi was someone Trin never expected but once he had his sights set on her, I don’t think she had a chance….
My heart broke at her family situation….. personal experience of the things Trin and her sister were going through with their dads dementia were so close to home that I felt the characters pain. To write about ‘losing’’ a parent when they are still here, the way Freya did, can only be done justice when you have first hand knowledge or experience. Gods, it was difficult to read at times but made the story so much more as it was so relatable.
The relationship Bodhi and Tucker fostered was lovely to watch and Bodhi became a great role model for the teen. I loved the appearance of some of our favourites from other series – personally, I think it’s fab when an author crosses series and characters when you least expect it! i really liked Bodhi’s folks and as ever we had a sense of family, blood and choice, which is a mainstay when it comes to Ms B’s books.
There was action, suspense and mystery that we’re right in Trin’s wheelhouse, given that she’s a journalist, that brought out Bodhi’s very protective side ….. not always a good thing given how stubborn and used to taking care of herself Trin was, but that made for good reading and making up!!!
Another great instalment and I’m looking forward to much more in this series!

I floved Dani and Noah. The instant attraction, the desire that flamed quickly, the want and need to help and care for Dani that Noah had was a large part of my enjoyment of the book. That he spotted so much in her that he’d experienced in his past and rather than step away and continue with the quiet life he’d built for himself but throw himself headlong into saving her, for want of a better term, spoke to his character and made me fall for him…..

Melanie gave us a story that was believable – insta spark aside for some I know – but hey, sometimes you meet someone and just KNOW… it doesn’t always have to take a lot of time to become more!!!
I loved the supporting characters and the sense of family and belonging that Dani got when it came to Noah. I’m looking forward too more in the Insta-Spark collection from Ms Moreland.
