I remember the first book of Freya Barker’s that I read – I went in to it wondering if I’d like it, hoping that I would and worrying that, gods forbid I didn’t, how could I tell her, someone that I knew and really liked, that I just couldn’t take to it…. well, the worst never happened, the story was excellent and that concern turned out to be so far from an issue that I’d actually completely forgotten my worry until I was recently looking over some of my reviews of Ms Barker’s previous books..

Ok, I’ll stop digressing and actually move on to what I want to say….

Still Air was an absobloodylutely fantastic read – let’s face it, that’s pretty much a given when it comes to this series!! The one thing you can always be sure of with Freya’s writing is that it will pull on ALL of your emotions; it’s expressive, meaningful, sarcastic, so very true to life, real, hard-hitting and heartbreaking at times and, as is the case with this series especially, the story is at points raw, painful and occasionally fugly BUT is is also sweet, hopeful, uplifting, humorous and heart-warming, her characters shows the true beauty and importance of friends and family (of choice and not just of blood – hell, at times often in spite of blood!!) and that now and again we have to wade our way through the seemingly never-ending crap continually thrown our way to get to the HEA that, in our darker moments, seems just that little bit – or possibly too far – out of reach!!

I FLOVED Still Air (just in case you didn’t get that vibe already!!) What a way to end the series!

We saw a very different side to Pam than we had previously – where before she was the strong, resilient, confident woman this time, in her own story we found that Pam had so many layers, had dealt and was still dealing with so much heartache and she suffered from as many, if not more, feeling and insecurities that the people that she took care of and supported. Afraid to open herself to anyone because she didn’t feel deserving of love, care and a happy future, she kept everyone at arms length, especially Dino – until things happen and she can no longer avoid him!
Throughout the other books in the series, Dino has been the voice of reason, the strong one who could see and read more about people that they were comfortable with but lately he hasn’t had the easiest of times himself, between his wife and all of her issues, his responsibilities to his kids and his feelings of having let his kids down and everything that happens in this book, it doesn’t seem like he has time or should be looking for anything for himself…. until he gets close to Pam and they find out that they hit it off more than either of them expected.

If you haven’t checked out the Portland, ME series, or for that matter, any of Freya’s other books you are sorely missing out!!!!

I rate this fabulous read 5* – but if I could, I’d mark it way, way higher as five stars don’t truly tell how good this book is!!!

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

This is the first book by R.C. Boldt that I’ve read. I liked the sound of Clam Jam from the minute I read the blurb, it seemed just like my kinda read – and while it was to an extent, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations…….

The main characters were likable and they had great banter, the humour that I enjoy in a book like this was definitely there, as was the heat when this pair got together – you could tell they had an attraction and connection pretty much from the start (even though Ry told Maggie he was gay to get the chance of being her flatmate!). There was a really good supporting cast who were entertaining and I wouldn’t mind reading more about them.

My biggest issues with the story were Maggie’s apparent naivety when it came to Ry and how she didn’t work out he wasn’t gay by the things he said and did and then there was how long it took him to come clean….. to be honest, if it had gone on even a few pages more I would most likely have put the kindle down and walked away from the book as it was getting frustrating and I wanted to yell at him to just man up and tell her the damned truth!!

All in all it was a decent read and I did enjoy it for the most part. I’m rating Clam Jam 3.75*

We meet Dylan and Layne band mates and in walks Heaven Lewis. Dylan is pulled to her, she is the woman of her dreams for so long and maybe longer.

Heaven feels so close to Dylan but can she trust him. Can she trust what she feels no matter the pain of the past?

This is the first book I have read by Kelli McCracken and I can say it will not be my last. Amazing and Incredible author. I don’t know where she has been hiding but I am so happy I found her.

This book is so amazing, thought provoking, emotional in all the right places. I found myself rooting for all the characters even the broody Layne, who is Dylan’s best friend. I know I cannot wait for the next installment of the Soulmate Series.

“Nice bike.” He says as I kill the engine.

“Thanks. I custom built her when I turned eighteen.” I run my hand over the gas tank and he makes his way towards me. His eyes never leave mine as he reaches out and pulls my head to his mouth.

“I’ve always wanted to ride on one of these Harley’s.” He says when he releases my mouth. My hand grips his hip, I pull him closer and motion for him to get on. He slowly puts his leg over the bike and sits in front of me. My dick is straining against my jean, I want so bad to free the fucker just so I can get his sweet lips wrapped around me.

“I’ll give you something to ride.” I murmur, pulling his head to mine. I grip the nape of his hair and run my mouth against his throat. I hear a car coming down the street, but his truck is blocking the sight of us. The lights illuminate the area around us and when I look down, I can see the bulge in his jeans. My free hand runs down his neck and towards his stomach, slowly feeling my way down his rigid body.

EXCERPT # 2

Before I can even knock, the door is thrown open and I see a pissed off River. “So you just ignore my 911 text messages and show up here. I swear you are worse than your brother.” She snaps. I walk over to her and pull her to me.

“Yeah, but you still like me better sweetheart.” I kiss her cheek and the anger disappears. She tries to be a hard-ass, but it’s just not her style.

“Where the hell were you? You were supposed to come by hours ago.” She looks up at me with a pout and I shrug.

“I was out.” I say, moving past her and into her house.

“Out as in with someone or trolling?” She asks as she shuts the door. My phone beeps, I pull it out to see a text message from Seb. Great. I get to hear it from both sides now.

“Both.” I say distracted.

“Oooh!” she says giddily. “Was it good?” River loves hearing the details of my sex life for some odd reason. She loves hearing about when I fuck them. Her gay porn addiction is kind of frightening, but I just go with it. “Please tell me it wasn’t with that douche bag that you were fucking before.”
