There was a time when I lived for the pack, when I would do anything to save my people. The white wolves were slowly reducing in number, and now everyone was desperate, struggling to make ends meet before we were wiped into extinction. I was twenty-four years old, and a daughter of the Northern pack alpha. It was my duty to continue my lineage. The only problem was, there were no other unmated alphas around other than my best friend, Sebastian, and the supreme douche, Kade Whitemore.

There was no way in hell I was going to alliance myself with that rat bastard. He was alpha of the Yukon pack, violent, and an overbearing ass who’d rather see me on my back with my legs spread open than being his equal. I’d rather die than be forced to be his mate for all eternity. Why couldn’t I mate with Sebastian? Thinking of fucking him gave me the willies, but anything was better than Kade.

Anger racked my body and I sat there, seething . . . until I felt him. He was coming for me; I could sense him drawing near. The closer we got to the meadow, the more I could smell Kade and his excitement—his lust. Hopefully, he could smell the rage and disgust coming from me.

Grant Osprey just had the hottest sex of his life. Sure, they were both in costume, and yes, it was anonymous, but he never expected her to bolt in the middle of the night without so much as a good bye, let alone exchanging numbers. Or names. All he’s left with are her panties and some seriously X-rated memories…until he meets his business partner’s little sister.

Only Chloe Talley isn’t the bold, sexy vixen he remembers. And she wants nothing to do with him.

Cosplay is Chloe’s only chance to leave her boring, socially awkward world behind. To forget that she’s failing at life and can’t be with anyone, let alone a single-father like Grant. But the raw hunger between them is undeniable.
With him, she can be a misbehaving maid. A sexy call girl for hire. Each scene pushes Chloe beyond her strict boundaries, until Grant demands the one character she can’t play.

Praise for the Wolves of Willow Bend series:

“Long dished out a lot of unexpected twists and turns and did a great job tying it all together. The build-up and bits of action kept me up late at night flipping the pages.” – Booked & Loaded

“ROGUE WOLF is a fast paced, intriguing look into the world of shifters. Salvatore is old world a bit stodgy and Margo is very much new world and on top of that a lone wolf and Enforcer. How is it possible that these two could be mates? In author Heather Long’s vivid and fun imagination it’s very easy.” – Fresh Fiction

“BAYOU WOLF is in a word … amazing. All the reader can do is hold on for the ride and enjoy the fireworks.” –
Fresh Fiction

“If you love sexy wolf shifters, sweet love stories and action then you have to pick up UNTAMED WOLF by Heather Long.” – Annetta Sweetko, Fresh Fiction

Excerpt from River Wolf:

So not ready to be awake…

A knock on the door intruded in her drifting and she groaned. Dammit, she was a guest. She couldn’t stay in bed all day. In fact, what she needed to do was get up, shower, dress and get her ass on the road. Florida seemed a hell of a long way to go, though. Rolling over, she shoved the blankets away then climbed out of the bed. Glaring at the light between the curtains, she rubbed a hand over her face, then stumbled to the door.
Opening it a crack, she gazed at her host. Goddammit. He looked perfect. Dressed in a clean, nicely pressed shirt with the top two buttons open to reveal the faint curls of dark against his chest and smelling like heaven, he looked good enough to eat. His hair wasn’t even damp, though it fell in a soft wave toward his forehead. He’d been up long enough to shower and dress—and he wore a smile.
“Ugh,” she sighed. “Please God tell me you are not one of those happy morning people.”
The corner of his sensual mouth quirked higher. The effect on his expression devastated her sleepy senses. No human should ever look so damn good without coffee. The combination of rake and boy next door added to his appeal, but the trace of scars and mottled skin gave him a ruggedness she desperately wanted to smooth away. “I woke you.”
“Not exactly,” she admitted, rubbing her cheek against the door and leaning on it a little more heavily. Everything ached and she wanted to go back to sleep. “I’m used to getting by on a lot less sleep.” And rolling out of bed to go to work for eight hour shifts that as often as not turned into ten to twelve hours on her feet. “I think I am tireder than I thought.” She yawned the last three words, and when she glanced at him again, his expression softened.
Extending a finger, he traced the line of her cheek and it was a soothing motion, one which had her eyes half-closing in pleasure. “Go back to bed, Colby.” His voice washed over her. “I’ll be in my office working.”
“I can’t laze about in bed all day.” No matter how good it sounded.
“Why not?”
“Because…” She had to go to Florida or at least say her goodbyes. She was a guest and not even an intentional one. “…Luc. I should probably check on him.”
“He’s fine, the doctor is with him.” The indulgence in his voice evaporated, but the steadiness in his tone remained. “Go sleep. When you wake up, come find me. We’ll have coffee.”
Tempting. So. So. Tempting. “I’m up now…but coffee sounds like heaven. Really, really strong coffee.”
“Double pot? I made one, I can run it through again.”
Colby groaned at the idea. Now that he’d mentioned it, she could smell the coffee. It proved even more alluring than the sweet vanilla and jasmine entwining the pine of his cologne on her pillow. Releasing the door to stretch, she would have thumped her tail if she’d had one. “Yes, please. If it wouldn’t be too much to ask.”
Silence greeted her comment, and she found Brett gazing at her. Rapt admiration in his eyes as he trailed his gaze down her body and up again.
Fuck me… She still only wore a t-shirt and panties and she’d just given him a show. “Crap. Sorry.” Slamming the door shut, she leaned against it. Adrenaline burned through the remaining traces of sleepiness, adrenaline and a healthy dose of lust. Having him look at her like that warmed inside and out.
“Please,” his voice stroked her through the door. “Don’t apologize. I’ll go fix the coffee. Come and find me.”
The invitation had her toes curling and she bit her lip. “I will,” she said, then added in a low whisper. “I promise.”
“I’ll be waiting.”
A shiver skated over her spine and she closed her eyes. Maybe she should have invited him inside to go back to bed with her. Inappropriate as hell, and impulsive, but she bet Brett would wake her even better than the coffee.
He already has…

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I LOVE reading, with a passion – I read every day, every chance I get, but it can feel at times as if one read is kinda blurring in to another – don’t get me wrong, the books I read are generally good stories but for one reason or another they don’t seem to have that thing/spark that leaves a lasting impression on me…. BUT THEN every once in a while you get the chance to read some real wee gems that throw you on an emotional rollercoaster ride and stay with you once you’ve finished them – lately I’ve been thrilled to find 3 such books!!!

OVER THE FENCE by Melanie Moreland is one of these books – I FLOVED it and it will be a re-read for me time and again!!!
I didn’t want to put the kindle down for even a minute and was pulled in to the story by the feels, character banter, fun, attraction, romance and sweetness of the story! It was at times sad, touching and, for me personally, kinda thought provoking. All of these things together ensured that OVER THE FENCE was a truly fantastic story!

Nathan Fraser lives a solitary life, never letting anyone get too close. It’s safer that way.

Kourtney Whyte hides from the world and behind her work, too afraid to really live her life to the fullest. Rejection is what she knows best.

The connection between Nat & Kourt and the feeling that this thing between them could become more, jumped off the page from the beginning.. The direction and turn their friendship/relationship takes was fab to read and there were a few things that had held each of them back from previously trying to get close to someone that you hoped they would be able to overcome to see if they could be more than ‘fence-friends’.

I loved that the book was mainly from Nate’s POV and how even though it was centered around 2 broken and lost people who seem to be making a special connection when they’d gotten to the point that they believed it could/would never happen, it wasn’t too down or bleak – they were fun as well as complex and hurting – gods, I adored their text conversations – they were quick witted, flirty and so funny!!!

This is a fabulous book and one I definitely recommend and I give it a solid 5* rating!!!

Her Sinful Angel – Excerpt

Nina groaned and rolled onto her back, tossing her right arm above her head. Rather than the expected soft pillow, it struck something firmly padded. She loosed another muffled moan and frowned, the urge to open her sore eyes and see what she had hit dampened by the riot in her head. Sweat trickled between her breasts and soaked her back where it pressed into the hard whatever it was she was lying on.

Her couch?

She couldn’t remember it being this uncomfortable.

But if it wasn’t her couch, what was it?

More than that, where was she?

Her frown deepened as she tried to recall whether she had gone out after work with her small group of friends, had possibly had a little too much to drink, and had ended up on one of their couches.

She couldn’t remember anything after leaving work for the evening.

A prickling sensation ran down her spine and over her limbs, and she pulled down a sharp breath. She had probably drunk a little too much. It had been a Friday night after all. It wouldn’t be the first time she had taken things too far when attempting to unwind and forget her worries.

A scuffing sound sent another bolt of panic through her bones and she cracked her eyes open, an apology to whichever friend had taken her in balanced on her lips.

Those words fled her when her gaze settled straight on a tall elegantly dressed black-haired man who stood a few feet from her, staring down at her with eyes the colour of pure gold.

Incredible.

But also terrifying.

She didn’t know this man.

Nina shoved herself up on the seat, her damp palms gripping the black velvet and giving her purchase. Every instinct she possessed said to flee, to make an excuse and run like hell, but her head turned violently and all she could do was bite out a moan from between clenched teeth and press her left hand to her forehead.

“You are unwell?” The deep lush male voice washed over her like a soothing balm, easing the pain in her skull and her fear at the same time.

He moved, the soft click of his heels alerting her that he was drawing closer. Her panic went into overdrive again and she scrambled backwards to place some distance between them, hit nothing where the rear of the couch should have been, and landed hard on a cold floor with her legs sticking up in the air.

She stared in surprise at her tights-clad feet and the dark ceiling beyond them, needing a moment to take in what had just happened.

The man appeared above her, his head canting and his golden eyes narrowing as he looked down at her. “Did you hurt yourself?”

Nina quickly shook her head and clutched at the hem of her black skirt, keeping it covering her thighs. She had already made a fool of herself. She didn’t need to go adding flashing her knickers at this man to that. Besides, she still wasn’t sure who he was, how she knew him, or where she was. A flash of panties might be seen as an invitation, and as handsome as this man was, she wasn’t about to invite him between her legs, no matter how long it had been since she had slept with a guy.

She rolled onto her side and scrambled back onto her feet, practically leaping onto them to evade the hand he offered. He stared at his outstretched hand as she smoothed her skirt down, his left eyebrow quirking in a manner that looked a heck of a lot like irritation to her.

When he moved, she expected him to advance towards her.

He retreated instead, backing towards an unlit black marble fireplace against an equally black wall behind him and lowering his hand to his side at the same time.

Nina looked around her as something dawned on her.

Everything in the damned room was black.

Where the hell was she? Some sort of goth retreat?

“There is no need to panic. I do not mean you any harm. You were left in the courtyard of this house and were brought in to keep you safe.”

Nina’s gaze whipped back to the handsome man.

And hell, he was handsome. The sort of man that could have a horde of women swooning with little more than a smile, their knees buckling beneath them. She wasn’t immune to his beauty. She wasn’t sure any woman would be able to say that she was. If they did, they would be a liar.

He oozed wicked sensuality as he stared across the room at her, his golden eyes fixed with hawk-like intensity on hers and his soft lips tilted at the corners into a hint of a smile.

Nina shook her head to rid it of the dangerous thoughts piling up in it and focused on what the man had said.

“Keep me safe?” She frowned at that, another ripple of panic running through her as she tried to guess the answer to that question and feared what he would say.

He toyed with the left cuff of his black shirt and then smoothed the fine sleeve of his black suit jacket over it, carefully adjusting it until it was perfect.

Just like him.

Nina shoved that little voice out of her head, determined to focus on the matter at hand and not the man at hand. She was in a strange place, in a stranger’s house, and he was saying that she was in danger.

“You are safe now,” he said with silken persuasiveness that had her dumbly nodding in agreement even when she didn’t honestly feel safe. “The man who brought you here is gone.”

“A man?” Nina’s eyes widened as she tried to remember what had happened to her but her mind remained blank, refusing to supply anything beyond leaving work for the evening.

He nodded and smiled, and it hit her hard in the chest, knocking the wind from her and sending her head spinning.

Her panic returned full force. “I want to go home.”

The man’s smile held. “I am afraid that is not possible yet, but arrangements will be made for your return. If you tell me where you live, I will pass on the information and they will see to it.”

They? Pass on the information? Was he the master of this house or a servant?

“London… I live in London. Anywhere in London will do.” She figured it couldn’t hurt to tell him the city she was from, but she wasn’t about to hand out her address to him. She still wasn’t sure whether there was another man who had taken her, or whether it was an elaborate lie to throw her off his scent.

What if this man had been the one to take her?

She twisted her hand in her white blouse, tugging at the material, struggling to breathe as a weight pressed down on her chest and she fought the wave of panic that threatened to sweep her away. She had to focus.

Her gaze fell to his hands as he toyed with his cuff again, neatening it, and her eyebrows pinched together. He had black nails. Why did he have black nails? Everything about him screamed businessman or butler, but he had black painted nails. She stared at them, unable to drag her eyes away. They were a bit too polished and impeccable. Were they false nails?

Acrylic?

They distracted her and she lost herself in pondering what they were made from and why he had black nails. It was only when the sensation of his piercing gaze on her faded and he moved his hands behind his back that she snapped back to the room. What was wrong with her today?

She was normally quite focused, but she felt foggy, her mind all over the place and easily lured into concentrating on the smallest things when the bigger picture was demanding her attention. She was starting to get the impression that it wasn’t purely panic altering her behaviour, and that only panicked her further.

“You should breathe.” Those three softly spoken words had her lifting her gaze back to the man’s sober face. The moment their eyes locked, her fear subsided again and the weight on her chest began to dissipate.

Nina breathed slowly but steadily, drawing each breath deep into her lungs.

“Can you recall what happened to you?” he said.

She lowered her eyes to her bare feet, her dark stockings not quite black enough to make them blend into the cool stone floor, and frowned as she searched for an answer to his question.

“I remember leaving work.” Nina looked down at her blouse, at the gash in the soft white material, and wondered for what felt like the hundredth time what had happened between leaving work and waking in this strange room.

Her head ached, throbbing deeply as she struggled to capture the barest sliver of a memory, just one moment that might help her understand what had happened to her. When the ache became a stabbing pain that felt as if someone was pushing a hot needle through her brain, she pressed her hand to her forehead, screwed her eyes shut and grimaced.

A flash of a shadowy figure blasted across her mind.

A man.

Nina raised her chin and opened her eyes, staring across the room at the black-haired man. “You were right. There was a man… but I can’t remember what he looked like.”

She tried but her head hurt so much that her stomach turned, sickness brewing there as the pain intensified. What had the man done to her? Was it drugs? Was that why her brain was so fuzzy?

“Do you know of any reason why someone might want to harm you?” The man took a step towards her and fear clashed with panic again, welling up to stir the sickness in her belly and bring bile up her throat.

She backed off a few steps, shaking her head in denial even though her heart and head screamed that there might be. It was entirely possible that someone was out to hurt her, and that meant that everything the man said had happened, had happened.

Someone had grabbed her, drugged her, and this man or someone from this house had saved her.

Nina’s back hit a wall and she gasped. The man’s eyes narrowed on her and she looked away, afraid he would see the truth in her eyes. She didn’t want him to get into trouble because of her, at least not any more than he already had.

Had he been the one to save her?

Her throat closed again as she thought about that, sure he must have fought the man off in order to help her. She squeezed her eyes shut and pressed her palms against the wall behind her, her fingertips clawing at the smooth surface as she tried to anchor herself in the swirling storm of her emotions.

“I want to leave.” She managed to get the words out but they were quiet, lacking the force and conviction she had wanted to convey in them.

Because part of her didn’t want to leave. Part of her feared what was waiting for her out there. If he had sent someone to take her once, he could send someone again. She had known him too long to believe he would just let her go. She should have been on her guard after rejecting him. She should have expected him to pursue her with the same aggressive intent as he had the time she had fallen in love with him.

Before he had crushed her.

The man’s gaze bore into her, commanding her to open her eyes and look at him, to find the strength to say those words with more conviction so he would let her leave.

She had to protect him.

He didn’t know what he had become involved in by helping her and she didn’t want him to pay for his kindness.

Not as she had paid for hers so many times and in so many ways.

 BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I’ve been looking forward to finding out more about Lucifer since we met him in Veiron & Erin’s book, Her Demonic Angel.

You know the view of the devil we have, he’s nasty, cold, abusive and has no feelings…. yeah, well, Felicity totally blew that out of the water when she gave us Her Sinful Angel. She showed us that there was another side to the ruler of the underworld that no-one would have ever thought possible.

Lucifer was, IMO, quite endearing. His attitude towards Nina initially was one of distrust and that was understandable given how she had arrived in Hell and the games that the realms had played previously.

The attraction between the pair is undeniable but the uncertainty on both parts about their feelings and what is causing them saw them both pull back to try to work out what was going on.
Their story was actually really sweet and developed steadily into the sensual, hot and heady read that we’ve come to love from Ms Heaton.

Nina was a great character, a human with absolutely no idea that there was anything more than the mortal world in existence, she was exactly what Lucifer needed though he himself didn’t know it!!
His story was actually kinda sad – hearing of his fall from Heaven and his thoughts and feelings around what happened to him and why gave us a different perspective to his personality and those who had banished him.

Her Sinful Angel could easily be read as a standalone but as Veiron and Erin make an appearance in the story a read of book 5, Her Demonic Angel would help make sense of the relationships & some of the things that happen in Lucifer’s book!

Another hit for Felicity and a definite new favourite of mine, Her Sinful Angel is a solid 5* and recommended read!!

Review

Amanda’s a stereotypical bored housewife. Her life would be mundane if not for the wild predicament she’s in: her husband’s buddy has been blackmailing her for sexual favors. (To learn more of how that came about, check out the prior book in the series, Amanda’s Descent. You don’t absolutely need to read them in order but it will help and it also wasn’t a bad read either.)

The book begins with a little of this background (again, if you want more, read the other book) and the author informs us that most of Craig’s advances occur when the husband Mark is away on business. He works to bring new accounts into the company, and is out of town quite often. In the opening chapter, though, we learn that Mark is about to be promoted, and his “Rocket Man” days will be a thing of the past. This will put a serious damper on Craig’s exploits with Amanda. Craig hatches a plan: seven people are in line to interview for Mark’s old job, and he reasons that if these interviews don’t occur, his friend can’t be replaced and promoted. Amanda’s mission… or, her “Assignment”, will be to stop the interviews from happening. It’s a slightly shaky premise… but just go with it. The story quickly moves along and gets us into the action.

All in all, six men (and one woman) are scheduled for interviews, and Amanda has to stop them from keeping the appointments by any means necessary. In two of the scenarios, she actually pretends to be the interviewer and “hijacks” the interview process. For others, she uses deceit and subterfuge, including fake car trouble, burglary and a strategic coffee spill. At one point, she even participates in a video game contest of “strip Xbox” to keep her mission alive.

The husband’s friend, Craig, is the protagonist… but he also isn’t. You will have to read the book to fully understand what I mean. But, like in Descent, Craig arranges depraved sexual encounters for Amanda and then recedes into the background. In fact, he’s only in two and a half scenes in this story. In this reviewer’s opinion, this actually serves to take the story to another level. Rather than having Craig grab Amanda by the arm and say “go seduce that guy” or “you had better have sex with that couple”–Amanda’s character is given the latitude to explore on her own. In many of the scenes, she’s assertive, taking charge and dominating her partner. In other scenes, the blackmail/forced scenario plays out (Amanda is handcuffed in two scenes and pinned by a jealous wife in another.)

All in all, a very enjoyable journey.

Excerpt

He kissed her. Amanda kissed back heartily. She knew this would encourage Craig further, but the alternative was to piss him off.

His mouth moved to her neck and his hands were now cupping her breasts, gently fondling them. Warily, she kept an eye on the doorway and the stairway beyond.

“Craig…”

His right hand broke away and glided down her belly. His mouth took its place on her left breast, sucking her nipple in between his teeth. Now his hand crossed the threshold of her waistband, slipping into her panties toward her clit. In a couple of seconds, he would find out how wet she was, and probably tease her about it.

Amanda shut her eyes.

“Craig, please, my husband is in the house…”

“But it would be ok if he wasn’t?” He gave a low chuckle–this was his way of reminding her what a whore he’d turned her into.

“No… I meant…”

His finger began stroking her clit. The redhead exhaled sharply.

“Do you want me to stop, Amanda?”

The tormented housewife knew it was a no-win question. If I say yes, he teases me and humiliates me… and keeps using me anyway. If I say no… then I’m the whore he tells me I am.

He gave her nipple a bite. She winced, but remained still.

“Well? Amanda, should I stop?”

“Yes,” she pleaded. “Just for now, because he’s in the house,” she added, trying to find middle ground.

He continued to rub her clit and to suck on her nipple. She gripped the bench top tightly, trying simultaneously to enjoy his attentions and to not enjoy them. Gradually, she resigned herself to the fact that the end result would be the same–Craig doing with her as he pleased–so she relaxed slightly. His fingers felt really good, and his mouth… as long as he wasn’t biting, it was just fine by Amanda.

His hand wandered lower, and two of his fingers slid into her now.

“Damn, you’re so wet, Amanda…”

She was sure that he’d taunt her about her arousal, but he didn’t. Thankful, she gave a contented moan.

From upstairs, there were footsteps. Hastily, Amanda pulled Craig’s hand out of her shorts while squirming away from his oral attention.

“What are you doing?” he demanded quietly.

“My husband… he’s coming…”

Craig seemed unfazed. “Put your hands back where I told you.” Before waiting for her to obey, he grabbed her wrists and led them back till she was again reluctantly gripping the bench top.

“Craig…” But he’d already slid his hand back into her panties, and turned his oral attentions to her right breast now. This time, though, he wasn’t being gentle. His teeth found the base of her hard nipple and bit into it. Amanda responded with a strangled yelp. To her chagrin, she could also feel herself growing wetter.

He felt it too, but merely laughed and fingered her faster.

Footsteps continued from upstairs.

“Craig,” she whispered urgently, “he’s going to catch us…”

“Cum, Amanda,” he replied, his teeth never loosing their grip on her tender flesh. He stabbed his fingers deep into her, and she realized his intention. He was going to keep fucking her with his fingers until he made her cum. And, unlike with her clit, when he finished her off this way, Amanda knew that she would squirt. Her panties and her shorts would be soaked–it was bad enough that she’d have to sneak upstairs to change her blouse, but Craig was bent on leaving her looking and smelling like sex, and at the risk of being caught by her husband.

“Rub my clit, please,” she implored, her eyes dancing nervously on the ceiling as she listened for Mark. “Please, Craig, that’ll make me cum…”

He fingered her faster. “This will make you cum, too.”

“No…”

“No? Then maybe you need more stimulation…” His mouth moved back to her left tit, and his teeth cruelly bit into the pink flesh of her already aching nipple.

Ohhhhh!” Although it was against his orders, she brought her hand up and shoved her wrist into her mouth, stifling her cry of pain. This time, he didn’t let up, and Amanda willed herself to keep still. Squirming would only increase the agony, she knew from prior Craig experience.

Her pussy, on the other hand, was another matter entirely. The violated redhead could feel herself dripping all over Craig’s fingers, and indeed there was now very little in the way of friction down there…

Amanda’s Descent

The first book, Amanda’s Descent, follows the beginning of Amanda’s adventure, showing us how she’s transformed from an ordinary housewife to a sex slave…

“Not for the faint of heart… what starts out as a simple dare turns into a full blown series of sexually charged scenes… until you are out of breath, and in some serious needs of your own…”

–Heidi Lis (Amazon reviewer)

“My husband called this book stroke material when I told him what I had just finished reading. This book is super HOT and down and dirty!”

Synopsis

Pain punished her.

The bottle numbed her.

Guilt kept her trapped.

In the dark alley of a pub, the words “Please don’t” take hold of her heart and break the silence she seeks. Thinking herself beyond redemption, she tentatively grabs on to the slim thread of hope that unfolds inside of her.

Holding her secrets close, she can’t resist the comforting draw coming from The Skipper. The unconditional friendships it offers, the protective roof it provides, and the spark that its owner ignites in her—melting the frost off her heart, and slowly stripping away her resistance.

His life flows from one crisis to the next. Under the pressure of competition crowding him out of his family’s pub and the need to protect his children from the ruins of a bad marriage, he barely breathes. That is until a mane of strawberry-blonde hair and a set of big, pale blue eyes, shake him up.

He never expected the shadow of a woman he finds on the floor of his washroom to bring him the air―the balance and the light he’s been missing.

Excerpt

“Jesus, Gunnar. Close the door will you? You’re gonna have Syd here quit on her first day!” Viv yells as she slams the stall door closed. Some mumbling and shuffling of feet follows and I’m glad to hear the washroom door slam shut as well. Syd? That little thing’s name is Syd? What kind of fucking name is that for a girl? My stream downgraded to a trickle, I shake off and tuck my business away, zipping up as I push open the door to get my hands washed. The washroom is empty. Seems Viv has taken her new charge out of here and is probably somewhere trying to calm the little bird down. Christ, she looked like she was terrified. Feel kinda bad about that but holy shit; my bladder was bursting and I find some weird chick on the floor of the men’s room. I splash some water on my face in an attempt to rinse away some of the travel fatigue etched on my face. I’m getting fucking old at forty-four.

BLP REVIEWS

Tracy

FROM DUST is a fantastic read…. it’s got it all, passion, tragedy, upset, a little mystery, added to romance, sexual attraction and a whole ton of heat and passion

When I was reading this unputdownable (yeah, I’ve gone there!!) book, one of my overriding thoughts was that we know day to day that tragic things hit ordinary people as happens in the story for Syd, but I’ve never ever considered the ripple effect it causes…. You think ‘that’s so sad’ but go on with your own life.
Freya’s writing made everything that happened feel so very real and raw. Jeez, how Syd ever managed to battle through all of the years she did I’ve no idea. My heart and head were all over the place while reading From Dust – so many emotions were brought to life through the story of Sydney’s life which was devastating, heartbreaking and tragic, but she is one helluva strong woman and, through the love, care and lack of judgement of those she meets at The Skipper, she rises like a pheonix from the flames and it’s wonderful to see that come through in the story.

Gunnar didn’t have the easiest of histories either, though his road wasn’t as bleak or as difficult as Sydney’s. He was a light in the darkness that she felt – though her initial impressions of him before actually meeting him weren’t quite the same!  He cared and loved deeply, knew from the outset that Syd needed help and was determined to do his bit regardless of what else was going on in his own life!!

I adore the ‘family’ element Freya’s books have. We definitely don’t choose the ‘blood family’ we end up with (as Syd knows to her detriment) but the family we surround ourselves with is often more loving and supportive than those we are born to ever could be!!!!!

I love The Cedar Tree series that Freya writes and when I heard that she was writing a standalone I was excited to find out more about it. I have to admit that, of all her books to date, FROM DUST is my favourite and I hope that this fantastic book goes from being a standalone as there are a few characters that we meet in the book who I’m sure have a story of their own to tell!!!

Freya Barker has become one of my favourite authors in the short time that she has been writing and I can’t wait to see what she brings us next!!!

Freya Barker craved reading about ‘real’ people, those who are perhaps less than perfect, but just as deserving of romance, hot monkey sex and some thrills and chills  in their lives – So she decided to write about them. Always creative, from an early age on she danced and sang, doodled, created, cooked, baked, quilted and crafted. Her latest creative outlets were influenced by an ever-present love for reading. First through blogging, then cover art and design, and finally writing. Born and raised in  the Netherlands, she packed her two toddlers, and eight suitcases filled with toys to move to Canada. No stranger to new beginnings, she thrives on them. With the kids grown and out in the world, Freya is at the ‘prime’ of her life. The body might be a bit ramshackle, but the spirit is high and as adventurous as ever. Something you may see reflected here and there in some of her heroines…. none of who will likely be wilting flowers.

BUT THEN every once in a while you get the chance to read some real wee gems that throw you on an emotional roller-coaster ride and stay with you once you’ve finished them – lately I’ve been thrilled to find 3 such books!!!

“Nathan Fraser lives a solitary life, never letting anyone get too close. It’s safer that way.

Kourtney Whyte hides from the world and behind her work, too afraid to really live her life to the fullest. Rejection is what she knows best.”

The connection between Nat & Kourt, and the feeling that this thing between them could become more, jumped off the page from the beginning..

Excerpt:

“So if you’re leaving the ladder up, you plan on feeding me again, I assume?”

“Well, I figured I was the one to start the whole stray cat syndrome, so I suppose you’re right.”

I snorted. “Stray cat? Kourtney with a K, are you calling me a pussy? Seriously woman, you’re insulting my manhood here.”

She laughed loudly and I reveled in the sound. It was rich and full; filled with warmth. The sound was different than her delightful giggle and quiet voice. I liked hearing it. I wanted to be the one to make her laugh.

Grinning, I walked over and placed the mug back on the top of the fence. “But, I’d purr for you if there was another cup of your coffee,” I begged, enjoying teasing her.

My mug disappeared. After a few minutes, it reappeared, this time with the addition of a plate on top. Eagerly, I grabbed at it, almost giddy to find a toasted bagel with cream cheese waiting for me.

“Yes,” I hissed as I took a bite.

“Don’t get so excited, I was merely saving the fire department a trip. I think I’m actually scared of what you might do to a toaster.”

I took another bite, chewed, and made a semi-growling noise toward the fence.

“Excuse me?”

“I’m purring.”

“Oh. Is that what that was? I thought you had gas.”

BURN Blurb:BURNsmall

Tragedy cuts deep. Revenge burns deeper.

The blood of their enemies coats the leather of their cuts and a trail of bodies lie in their wake, but the Forsaken Motorcycle Club isn’t done yet. Carlo Mancuso still needs to pay for his sins. Nobody knows that more than Ian Buckley, the Treasurer for Forsaken.
Ian prefers his pleasure mixed with pain and he’s only ever at peace when he’s doling out justice. Convinced that he’s too unstable and sadistic to take an old lady, he keeps his trysts, like all of his relationships, brief and anonymous. But with his club at war, and the stakes being so personal, Ian’s feeling the events around him more deeply than he expects.

Mindy Mercer is the sweet daughter of Fort Bragg’s most respectable cop. At least that’s how the town sees her. Very few people know the Mindy who hides her tracks and battles her cravings by lying to everyone around her. She thinks she has control of her addiction until she suffers an attack that leaves her searching for a way out of her own personal hell.
Mindy has never been more desperately in need of a savior and Ian has never seen a more beautifully destroyed creature in his life. Their attraction is intense, but their damage is extreme. Some scars never heal, and some people never get better.

Love is never more painful than when it can kill you.

EXCERPTS:

Excerpt 1:

“You ride?”
I shake my head. He turns his face toward mine and waits as though I haven’t answered him. Maybe he thinks I haven’t. I guess I’ve been silent too long because he squeezes my hand and continues to stare at me with searching eyes. I shake my head again and this time he sees it and nods his head in return. He drops my hand and climbs on his bike. He nudges the kickstand up and holds the bike upright. He has a helmet in his outstretched hand.
“Wear this, then climb on like I did and place your feet here,” he says and points to a cylindrical black peg that juts out of the bike. “Don’t drop your feet and let your body lean into the turns.”
He’s patient with me as I stand here and psych myself up. I’ve had maybe a fantasy or two about a sexy man on a motorcycle, but until Ian it was just that—a passing fantasy that went as quickly as it came.
With his pointer finger, he summons me forward and sets the helmet on the tank between his legs. His eyes aren’t kind exactly and they’re not dark and sexy. They’re something else that I’m desperate to place, but can’t. I close the distance between us and stand before him. Slowly, he reaches out and brushes a lock of hair from my face and tucks it behind my ear.
“Tell me where you’re at,” he says quietly. He tucks my hair behind my other ear as well. I let out a soft, unintentional sigh. I barely hear the question—or order rather—and instead have all my attention focused on his touch. Being able, and even wanting, to be touched is such a wonder. “Tell me I help.”
There’s such a vulnerability about him in this moment as his fingers lightly weave through my messy hair and he’s asking for reassurance. My breath halts in my lungs. I both loathe and love the sound of his plea. I didn’t even know he was capable of this. Ian is always so strong for me that I think I sometimes forget that he’s human.
“I need you.”

Excerpt 2:

“I like talking to you. I want to get to know you.”
“What’s the point in getting to know me when you’re just going to end up hating me eventually, anyway?” This is why I don’t want to bond with her. I don’t want to let her in and to love her the way Ma does, the way Michael does. Even Ryan loves her and I’ll be damned if Pop doesn’t love her too. She’s squirrelly like that.
“I can’t hate you. If I can’t hate my father, then I can’t hate you either. I won’t ask you not to hurt him, and I can’t tell you how I’ll feel when he dies because I don’t know how I’ll feel. But I can tell you this— he stole you and my mother from me. My father hurt you, and he hurt me in a different way. He hurt Michael too, but he might be too proud to admit that just yet. Carlo Mancuso has his family and I have mine.”
She takes a step closer and reaches out, grabbing my arm. The tears she was holding back slide down her cheeks as she stares up at me.
“I don’t like violence and I hate to see people get hurt, but no matter who I am today, I was a principessa, a Mancuso. I understand the need for justice and deep down I know that this war goes back further than last year and that it was only a matter of time for my father to get what’s coming to him.”
“I don’t want to hurt you,” I find myself saying. My chest aches and my jaw is tight. I reject the emotions that make me weak and force myself to think about anything but how good it feels to get this gift from her. “Every year on your birthday, we have a party. It used to be just me and Ma, and then when Pop and Ryan came around, they’d join in. It was always just something we did. Ma never wanted to forget either of you, and she made sure I never could. I don’t want to hurt you, but I have to make this better for her.”

RIDE Blurb:18462806

Death comes in Armani. Salvation comes in leather.

Thrust into the dark and dangerous world of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club for her own protection, Alex finds herself faced with the last thing she needs right now: the man of her dreams. He’s sex in leather, the devil incarnate, and one hell of a kisser. But he’s also off-limits. Ryan Stone can be her friend, but he’s forbidden to be her lover.

Third-generation Forsaken, Ryan knows nothing other than life on two wheels, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He enjoys the many privileges that come with the patch, and the only laws he recognizes are the ones set-forth by his club. That is, until who he wants more than anything isn’t allowed on the back of his bike —or in his bed. Balancing his desire for her body, and need to keep her safe, Ryan tries to keep Alex at a distance. Finally having made a choice for herself, she’s done hearing the word “no” and will push boundaries even Ryan himself doesn’t dare cross.

THRASH Blurb:Thrash (Bayonet Scars, #2)

Loneliness suffocates the heart. Acceptance breaks down walls.

As a Lost Girl to the Forsaken Motorcycle Club, Nicole Whelan knows how to party. She’s not cut-out for relationships and her life is way too complicated for anything more than casual encounters. But one night when she falls into Duke’s bed at the clubhouse, he sees something in her that he can’t let go of—no matter how many times she tries to run.

Having been left to raise her teenage brother, Jeremy, she’s already got her hands full and isn’t looking for anymore complications. But Duke’s just watched his best friend fall for the only girl he couldn’t have, and then almost lose her so shortly after, shaking him to his core. Faced with his own loneliness, he’s more determined than ever to break down Nic’s walls and show her that he can be good for her; but he’s got a bad track record and she’s got a bad temper. Changing his ways isn’t easy when he’s not sure what he’s even changing for.

The violence and turmoil are at an all-time high, and Forsaken is in a vulnerable place when a twist of fate breathes new life into the club. Holly might like the idea of being with a real-life bad boy, but even being in the same room with tough-as-nails Grady flusters her.

When Holly inadvertently finds herself on Mancuso’s radar, she has two choices: trust that Grady will protect her, or continue to refuse the club’s help. Both roads are dangerous, but only one has the chance to damage her beyond repair.

Love is never more dangerous than when it can destroy you.

She’s funny, and kind, and she just wants that deep, earth-shattering love like her dad has with her school secretary, Holly. Jeremy always wanted to prospect for the Forsaken Motorcycle Club and wear the same patch as his father. Nor is it easy on relationships.  He wants to be a good man, but temptation is everywhere.

Blurb:

He’s a wolf in a kilt. That pretty much says it all…

Pulling off a rescue mission at a remote castle in Scotland should be an easy task for lone wolf Damon Black. He’ll flash some muscle, show a little Alpha power, and do whatever it takes to ease Addie MacShay’s fears. But the woman who throws herself into his arms and cries boyfriend is more intriguing than anticipated. The sexy she-wolf’s got more curves, more tantalizing scent, more of everything he desires.

Addie’s job cataloguing an estate at the Sterling-Wylde Manor is complicated by the ongoing discovery of new wills and the two creepy heirs who won’t leave her alone. But her fake boyfriend turns out to be a far greater threat—not only is he fun and flirtatious, he looks delicious in a kilt. She craves his touch, but with her empathic skills on overdrive, touch is the last thing she needs.

Damon’s fighting his unruly inner beast. Addie’s fighting their incredible sexual pull. They’ll both have to lower their guard to make this more than a Highland fling.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Laird Wolf is the second book in the Takhini Shifters series.
We met Damon in book one of the series (Copper King) and he came across as a fun-loving playboy and I couldn’t wait to find out more about him.

When we meet the sexy shifter in Laird Wolf he is off to help out the best friend of his best friends wife but he’s not entirely sure what he’s agreed to…. that’s where the fun begins!!

Addie is working in a castle in Scotland. Stuck there alone with 2 creepy brothers who are fighting over the rights to the castle is bad enough but there’s some strange goings on that are kinda freaking her out so when Damon turns up (at the request of Lillie & Jim, our couple from book #1) she is relieved to have someone else around for some morale support… except, how does she explain his sudden appearance and who he is?!?! That first encounter between the couple was definitely not what Damon expected I’m sure!!

There’s a real spark between the two from the off and Damon is more than happy to explore this but Addie isn’t quite so keen – we discover that this is due to her unusual ‘gift’ and the effect it can have on her but as they spend more time together their attraction grows and our heroine finds it difficult to ignore the big shifter!!

A quick, fun read with a little mystery thrown in Laird Wolf was packed with heat, passion and hot sexy times as you would expect from Vivian – I thoroughly enjoyed this story and give it 4 well deserved stars!!!
Although this is part of a series I would definitely recommend giving this great wee book a shot even if you haven’t read ‘Copper King’ or ‘The Takhini Wolves’ series!

Blurb:

Three things make billionaire Jim Halcyon’s to-do list: women, work…and more women. It’s a perfect agenda for a rich shifter who has no problem letting his inner grizzly out to play. From the bright lights of Vegas, to the sophisticated action of New York—he’s got the money and the power to do anything he wants.

Anything, except resist the lure of Lady Luck, an ancient copper coin he gambles yearly to possess. Jim is determined to regain control of the pretty penny, and damn if he’ll let any bit of eye candy distract him from his goal. Not even the mesmerizing woman in the middle of the casino floor with the shimmering hair and enormous green eyes.

With a life-changing move ahead of her, Lillie’s finagled a temporary layover en route to her future. She’s got five days to soak in new experiences, and while Vegas is too big and shiny and loud for her shy bear self, she’s eager to do this up right. It’s the last chance she’s got to let her hair down.

Until his challenge begins, Jim is more than willing to oblige Lillie’s wish for a final fling. Only Lady Luck has some twists of fate planned for them both…
