Sarah Robinson

Released Sept 29th, 2015
Loveswept

Perfect for fans of Katy Evans and Monica Murphy, Sarah Robinson’s blistering-hot series debut introduces the Kavanagh brothers—mixed martial arts fighters who work hard, play hard, and love with all their hearts.

As one of the big names at his family’s gym, Legends, MMA star Rory Kavanagh is used to being in the spotlight—until a gruesome leg injury knocks him out of the cage. Rory is left feeling sidelined in more ways than one, battling the inner demons that come with losing the one shot at his dreams. Then Clare walks into his life and gives him a new dream: winning her heart. There aren’t many new faces in Woodlawn these days, but this tough, beautiful stranger makes Rory want to get his life back into fighting shape.

Clare Ivers doesn’t think she’ll be able to tell anyone what really brought her to the close-knit Bronx neighborhood where she just started bartending. But her life’s on pause and her past is catching up fast, try as she might to move on—with new friends, steady work, and a chiseled alpha male trying to get her attention. Even though Rory’s more than a little intense, she can’t deny that her heart beats faster when he looks at her with those soulful silver eyes. Clare thought she was done with love, but Rory might just be man enough to show her she thought wrong.

“I really appreciate it, but you don’t have to give it to me for free,” Clare’s brow furrowed as she took the membership card from the spunky redhead.
“Oh, please, girl. I used to work busing tables at O’Leary’s Pub when I was in high school. Is Cian still in charge over there?” She smiled back as she continued putting Clare’s information into the gym’s computer system.
“Yeah, he’s my supervisor.” Clare nodded at the woman, slightly mesmerized by how piercing and blue her eyes were in contrast to the bright red wavy hair that flowed down most of her back.
“Then believe me, these self-defense classes can be written off as a work expense on next year’s taxes.” Both women snickered. Clare leaned against the counter, enjoying the interaction, since she hadn’t made any friends around her age in the three weeks she had lived here. Clare felt a pang of regret slice through her as she wished that an irritating boss was the only reason she needed self-defense classes.
“I’m Casey Kavanagh, by the way.” The redhead reached out her hand to Clare, who accepted it happily.
“Clare—well, I guess you already know that.” Clare pointed toward the driver’s license that Casey was still holding. Casey just smirked and waved her hand nonchalantly.
“So—Kavanagh? You’re part of the family who owns this place?” Clare tried not to sound like she was prying, but she was curious. She’d heard that name all over town since she got here.
“Yeah, my uncle owns it. Started it up back in the late seventies. It’s been remodeled lately, but we definitely still have the old-school reputation.”
“Oh.” Clare nodded, not sure what that meant or what to say.
“Here, you can have this back. I think I have everything in here now.” Casey handed her the license. “The thirty-day trial membership begins today, and then we can talk about different types of plans after you’ve had a chance to try out our various amenities and classes.”
“Thanks. Do you think I could have a peek around? See where the locker rooms are and stuff like that?” Clare tucked her driver’s license back into her wallet along with the new membership card, then stuffed the wallet into the small brown purse that was slung over her shoulder.
“Hell, yeah! Come on, let me give you a tour. Welcome—officially, this time—to Legends!” Casey popped out from around the back of the counter, motioning for her to follow.
Clare watched the bouncy, energetic woman in amusement as she followed her, feeling slightly overdressed in her knee-length red dress and thigh-high black boots, compared to Casey’s black yoga pants and neon-green long-sleeved tee.
“Okay, so here are the locker rooms. Men over there, women right here.” Casey started to point toward various doors they passed as the hallway opened up into a large room with an open floor plan.
“The entire far side of the room is pretty much for the fighters, not really anything but testosterone and ball sweat over there.” Casey slid her arm around Clare’s elbow to pull her along.
Clare giggled at Casey’s remarks and took in the view of dozens of men on weight-lifting machines, standing in front of weight benches, and in the rings. She had to agree, there was definitely a lot of testosterone in here.
“But over here is where things are a bit less noisy.” Casey led Clare to a side hall that opened into several small classrooms. A few of the rooms were filled with people doing group exercises; Clare recognized a yoga class and a spinning class.
“All the classrooms are walled in by windows, but the glass is so thick that you can’t hear all the noise from the rings.” Casey indicated an empty classroom that was at the back wall of the gym.
The door they entered through was set in a wall of all glass, just like the back wall of the room that gave them a view of the street. Clare strode toward the back wall, loving the openness and the view of pedestrians passing by.
“Yeah, that’s my favorite part, too,” Casey said.
“What, people watching?”
“Of course! People are weird, which is fun,” Casey quipped, joining her at the window as they stood side by side.
“See, there’s an example of weird right there.” Casey pointed at a behemoth of a man crouching on the sidewalk with a large dog next to him.
“That’s my cousin, Rory, but he’s more like a brother. He works here sometimes, used to be a fighter but got hurt in the championships last year. Almost couldn’t walk again since his leg pretty much split in two. A year later, not only is he walking, but there he is crouched down, feeding a damn street dog.”
Clare watched more closely, and now she noticed the second dog. In front of both the man and the larger dog beside him was a smaller, frail-looking pup. It couldn’t be more than twenty pounds, although it seemed like it should be much bigger. The dog’s ribs were poking out of its side as Casey’s cousin slowly fed him a sandwich. He was careful to hold his hand out flat and she could see his lips moving from his profile, realizing he was probably coaxing the dog to accept the food.
“I think that’s sweet. I was studying to be a vet before I moved here.” Clare’s voice was soft as she admired the man’s kindness toward the stray.
The man stood and stretched a bit, opening up the other half of a bagged sandwich and then settling himself on the curb by the thin dog, who seemed more trusting of him now. In his new position, Clare could see more of his face and she realized that it was the same burly yet handsome man she had flirted with at O’Leary’s last night.
Of course, that was before he had broken her boss’s nose.
She felt a stirring in her abdomen as she watched him, her mouth slightly parting. The brown pup cautiously took a few steps to him, then sat and placed his head in Rory’s lap. Clare felt a glow as her heart warmed at the sight.
“I’m so not an animal person, but Rory would help a goddamn rat if he found one. That bigger dog there is his shadow, Ace. Barely ever see the two of them apart.” Casey stepped away from the window.
Clare hesitated, watching Rory and Ace for a moment longer, then pulled herself away to go follow her new friend. It had been a while since she had thought about her previous career aspirations, and a wave of sadness passed over her as she thought of the different trajectory of her life now. Maybe now that she was starting over, she could go back to school, she found herself hoping.

“Cold Creek Grill. How may I help you?” She answered the phone as if her day was right as rain. She was a business woman, first and foremost.
“I need a reservation for tonight,” a gravelly voice barked into the phone. The caller was either on a cell phone with a bad connection or had a mouth full of marbles.
“Of course sir, what time are you looking for?”
“Seven,” he said impatiently and Amanda pictured him running to catch a subway.
“Let me make sure I have that available,” she told him, trying to buy time while she booted up the computer at the podium a few feet away. She moved the phone to the other side of her head, forgetting it was a war zone and her hair crackled near her ear.
“Trust me, sweetheart, you have a table available.”
“Sir?” She didn’t know what to be more offended by, his use of the word sweetheart or the underlying threat that she better be able to seat him. And she determined he was just some arrogant blowhard who was sitting with his feet up on his desk overlooking the water and a fat stogy in his mouth.
“A superstar is having dinner at your restaurant; you don’t want to make him wait.”
“All of our guests at the Cold Creek are VIPs Mr…?”
“Maybe I should speak to the owner?” he cut her off and she thought she heard more spit squish out of the end of his cigar.
“I am the owner. My name is Amanda Cole. To whom do I have the pleasure of speaking?”
“Don’t seat us someplace high traffic like near the front. He’s not there to be an advertisement. You’ll get your photo op.”
It sounded so scathing, like she was some sort of a bistro whore looking to make a buck, as if she would be interested in taking a picture with him in the first place. Supreme Court justices and past presidents dined at the Cold Creek without incident. “Mr. What-ever-your-name-is, I’m not only concerned for the comfort of our guests, but the safety of my staff. And we have had some high profile guests in the past. Several are regulars.”
“Yeah, yeah, I heard that. That’s why I’m calling. But lady, you never had anyone this big,” he said with an air of superiority that was nothing short of skin crawling. At least he had upgraded her to lady.
If he wasn’t being such a total jack-ass, she might have taken him more seriously. “Would you like to tell me who he is, so that I might inform security?” she said with overt sarcasm. He could either take being spoken to in kind, or he would start to ream her out and she would hang up on him and he could dine elsewhere, bad business or not.
There was a pause and she thought he may have hung up on her first. But then he said, “No. Better you don’t know till he gets there. Someone tips off TMZ and the night’s a bust. And he brings his own security”
“Will they be joining you for dinner?”
His laugh was particularly smarmy. “They’re not paid to eat.”
So he wasn’t only rude, he was also a tyrant. “That’s fine, sir, they can stand guard with mine.” Only hers were imaginary. She no longer cared if the computer was ready. It was a Weds, they were rarely fully booked, and this man and his famous guest seemed intent on dining there. He was probably going to be more aggravation than anything else, even if he was only half as self-important as his representative. “You’re all set, dinner for two at seven. Would you like to leave me a name or is there a code word or what?”
There was another pause, and once again Amanda was given the false hope that he may have hung up and saved her from a night of inconvenient distractions at the very least. But then she heard him on the other end, it sounded like a snort.
“You’re spunky, kid,” he told her. “Name under Alan Shaw. I’ll be there at 6:50. I dont like to wait either. And make sure there are good steaks on hand, he’s a meat-eater.”

Sex. Addiction. Lies.

One night changed everything.

With the sins that stand between Evan and Reagan, can a relationship emerge from a past that is so broken?

Or will the weight of their deceptions crush any hope of redemption?

Excerpt

“SO LET ME get this straight.” Dr. Glover lifted the end of his pen to his lips as his eyes narrowed on Evan over the top of his glasses. “The woman we’ve been discussing over the past few weeks finally shows you that she wants more, and you left her in an emotional heap in her office. Did I get that right?”

Evan stretched his long legs out in front of him. She thinks I fucked a prostitute the day after I left her apartment, so, yeah, that’s about right. Sighing, he leaned back into the worn leather couch. “You left out the part about her being a liar. And not someone I met in the last few weeks. She had an agenda.”

“So did you.”

“And what the hell was that?”

“You wanted to fuck her.”

“Jesus, you get right to the point, don’t you?”

“Well, that’s what you do. Isn’t it?”

I thought it was until I became obsessed with a leggy fucking blonde. Evan glared at the man whose eyes he swore fucking twinkled. “Even if it is, what therapist talks like you do? I’m positive they don’t teach you that in Patient-Client Relations 101.”

“I’ve always been a firm believer in no bullshit. I told you that the day you walked in and tried to lie to me. We aren’t going to make any progress if you don’t trust me and I don’t trust you.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know. You’re just—”

“Yes, Evan?”

Evan waved him off. “Nothing. I guess I’m still trying to process the fact that Reagan is that little girl from so long ago. A whole fucking life ago. It’s… I don’t know,” he said, running his fingers through his hair in frustration. “It’s disconcerting. She knew me before.”

“And that bothers you.”

“Fuck yes, it bothers me. I was ten years old the last time I saw her. Innocent. And now I’m…this.”

“You’re awfully hard on yourself. I wonder if you’re upset over what you’re saying or over Reagan thinking bad of you.”

And there it was. The truth he didn’t want to admit. Reagan accusing him of being with anyone hours after he’d been with her had infuriated him. Which was ridiculous, because he knew what he was. The demons he’d been trying to fight. Why would she assume anything but the worst? But with that anger came embarrassment and shame. He hated that she’d seen him on that corner. Hated that she’d seen him with Layla. But how the fuck could he ever convince her otherwise? And why would he even want to?

“She’s a liar,” he said.

“And you’re a sex addict. Fantastic pairing.”

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I’ve loved the series since book 1 and I was kinda sad that the story of Reagan and Evan was ending!!!
Book 3 picks up just after we were left on the cliffhanger at the end of book 2.
At that point we had no idea what direction things were gonna go with this pair or if things could/would ever work out between them!!

One is a sex addict – though now that he’s fixated on a certain co-worker he’s trying to sort him out by seeing his therapist (the meetings with Dr. Glover are really quite funny at times – even though their about Evan overcoming his addiction! – the banter between doctor and patient is great). The other is a liar who can’t open up and be honest with herself or anyone else!! What has her angle been all along??

The tension and heat between the couple was as hot and off the chart as ever, and the need that they both had but couldn’t seem to voice out loud was there for all to see.
The banter between the 2 – when they weren’t getting into each others pants – was funny and very natural. They made a really great couple and given their history, all the way through the read I was willing things to work out for them!!!

Book 3 wasn’t as angsty/emotional seesaw as the previous 2 instalments – it was more about 2 people finding and acknowledging the things they want most and trying to work out if there’s a way to grab them and find their future.

ADM3 was a great ending to a fanbloodytastic series. I cannot wait to see what’s next from Ella and Brooke as a writing team!!

About Brooke

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas.

Flash Point is her debut solo novel, and she is the co-author of the erotic serial, A Desperate Man, with Ella Frank. The latter has scarred her conservative southern family for life, bless their hearts. Licked, a romantic comedy, will be released on November 11, 2015.

If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find – just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I’ve never read a Melanie Harlow book before starting Some Sort of Happy but I’ll be checking out her backlist now!!
Reading the blurb for this book I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but whatever it was was way different from the story that I read and I have to say is one of my favourite reads of the past year!!!

SSOH was packed full of smokin’ hot sex – jeez, this pair nigh on burned out my kindle with their antics (which is always a fab thing in a book like this), laugh out loud funny moments, sweet and tender scenes, frustrating to the point of pulling your hair out chapters, but most of all the book was about 2 people finding their way through life to a place where they can be themselves and their own sort of happy!

Skylar – she was a little girl lost. The one who had always been told how wonderful she was until she left home to go turn her hand at being an actress… The one t.v show she made it on to didn’t work out well at all and now she’s slunk home to lick her wounds and try to figure out what her life is really about!

Sebastian – gods, I love my heroes a bit broken and in need of help so Mr. Pryce hit all of my buttons! Sebastian was the geeky kid at high school that most folk avoided ‘cos he was a bit ‘odd’. He grew up to be a complex, tormented man who had the capacity to love and live a happy life but he couldn’t believe that he was capable or worthy of either!

I adored both characters. Skylar’s family and the other characters in the book where a great supporting cast and I can’t wait to meet them again in the series!

Melanie had me on a bit of an emotional roller-coaster while reading ~ in tears at one point in particular only to turn the page and be laughing like a loon!
There was so much emotion, insight and depth to the character of Sebastian, you could tell reading that this story was written by someone who had experience of life with the condition and issues our hero was living with.
Sometimes, when we are dealing with an illness you have to find the funny, the lighter moments, the light at the end of the tunnel or you’d drown in the darkness and fear and that’s what MH did with the story between Skylar and Sebastian! (Boyoboy, sorry peeps, I didn’t mean to get too heavy on you there!!!)

Do yourself a big favour – pick this book up today – as I said earlier, this is up there with in my favourites of the year list and will be a definite re-read for a long time to come!

My rating ~ 5 huge HAPPY stars….. I’d give it more if I could!!!!!! ❤

button synopsis

Abra cadabra…

My name is Margaux Asher–and I’m in love.
Crazy, right? Me, the girl who grew up in the lap of luxury and the shadow of cynicism, is now head-over-heels for an apple farmer’s son who rocks my world and steals my breath. He’s seen the woman beneath the princess, and loves me–for me. Trouble is…he wants all of me. But how can I commit that to him if I don’t know what “me” is?

There are pieces missing–and not just mine. Until Michael opens up and shares all of himself, we’re a great opening explosion, but not a lasting magic tale.

Don’t look at the man behind the curtain…

My name is Michael Pearson–and I’m in love.

Margaux is the fire of my dreams, the fulfillment of my fantasies, and the woman who’s asked the impossible. When your past has been hell, how is it possible to walk through it again? But fighting it isn’t an option–especially when the ghosts rise up and battle back.

Especially when fate issues an ultimatum: battle back, or lose her forever.

Can I do it? Is love enough to change a person’s soul, or will our magic become a forgotten moment for us both?

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I adored Margaux and Michael in No Perfect Princess (book #3 in the Secrets of Stone series) and couldn’t wait to read more about them and find out how things were going as they settled into their relationship….

I should have know that No Magic Moment wasn’t gonna be ALL hearts, flowers and smooth sailing!!!

We started off with a couple that was happy, in love and as ever, hot heavy, down & dirty in the bedroom (car, lounge, you get the idea!! ~ gods, Angel and Victoria can write one helluva knicker melting sex scene!)

After everything that happened in the previous book that lead to the pair getting together they were still getting to know each other fully outside of the bedroom and there were still some secrets and truths that were hidden away. Michael’s past comes back to haunt them in a way no-one ever expected and this pushes our hero to make decisions affecting him and Mare-Bear that could end up nearly destroying them both!

I was so bloody mad at Mr Pearson for a fair bit of the book as his actions, although coming from where he thought was a safe and sensible place, were thoughtless, heartbreaking and selfish….
What did surprise me was Ms Asher’s determination to not let the man she loved suffer on his own – though there comes a point where she does have to wonder if the one you are looking out for cares enough for her to let her in and help them or if she should give up and walk away….

We caught up with Claire and Killian (I really need to go back and read their books….) and saw how things were going for these love-birds. Andre, Marg’s driver, was once again present throughout the book with his trademark humour and snark – he has become a favourite supporting character of mine.

One of the things I really enjoyed about ‘No Magic Moment’ was watching Margaux begin to open up, reach out and connect with her friends and family and to rely on them when things weren’t going so well. She also began to trust and believe in herself – a big deal when you consider what her dragon of a mother had done to her over the years – but also a step she needed to take if she and Michael could have any kind of future together.

I read this fabulous book in pretty much one sitting – a lot of that through the night – I couldn’t put the kindle down as I was desperate to see where things were gonna go and how they would pan out for our red hot lovers.

There’s a couple of surprises in the later part of the story that were really nice – though if I’m gonna be really honest, one or two things happened that I would have liked more of an answer or explanation to but it wasn’t something that detracted from my enjoyment of the book

‘No Magic Moment’ was a ride – it was hot, sensual and sweet with some intrigue and mystery in the mix. The continuation of Michael and Mary’s story made me laugh, saw me cry, had my heart in my mouth and dread in the pit of my stomach at times but I loved every single minute of it!!

A cracker of a read that I have no hesitation in giving 5 well deserved stars….

button excerpt

I did take a couple of sharpened pencils—brand new number twos—and lay them end-to-end in the well on the desk’s top. Like any good student, I sat up straight with my hands folded in front of me. The only thing out of place was my exaggerated gum chewing. It lent to the bit but also helped with my nervousness.
Keys jangled in the hall.
My heartbeat skidded in my chest.
Show time.
I tried to call the circus in my stomach to rest. Would he play along with me? I was almost certain he would…but how far? In what direction?
Uncertainty assaulted me.
A simple question had never turned me on more.
The door swung open. I looked up, brandishing a cheeky grin. Blew a big pink bubble out of my mouth with a long hiss.
Pop.
I sucked the gum back in and kept chewing, adding a little wink. Getting deeper into character helped keep the circus under control—especially after I took in my man from head to toe. He’d worn one of his sharpest suits today, nearly-black navy that was perfectly fitted to every lean, muscled inch of him. Finishing the look was a burgundy tie, a color he turned into a power look with the force of his presence alone.
I really loved that suit on him.
Inside ten seconds, I squirmed in the seat. Wet for him. Wanting him.
“Well, what do we have here?” His sensual growl moved through me while he shucked his jacket and slid his briefcase onto the island in the kitchen, right next to the wooden ruler. Though I had a blind spot due to my lower level at the desk, I sensed he stashed the ruler in his back pocket. I’d find out for sure if I pushed him far enough…and earned a punishment.
Oh, it was on.
“Hi there.” I blew another bubble. Smaller this time. Popped it with my teeth and sucked it back in. Michael watched every movement with darkening eyes—and, I observed as he walked out from the kitchen, a hardening crotch. Oh, yes. I grinned a little wider.
“Hello there.” He started unbuttoning his sleeves. Rolled them both to his elbows. Oh hell, yes. “What’s going on?”
“I’ve come for detention—just like the slip said, Headmaster.” I chewed loudly but added in a mumble, “Although I didn’t expect the proctor to be late.”
He lifted both hands to his waist. “What did you just say, Miss Asher?”
His snarl was terrifying—and so fucking hot. He’d taken the bait and jumped right into character—as I’d known he would, deep in my heart. Never letting me down.
I loved this man so much.
“Nothing.” I snapped it breezily, diving deeper into my own persona. “Nothing at all.”
“Perhaps you meant ‘nothing, Sir’?”
I gave him an exaggerated blink through my heavily coated lashes. “Of course. Nothing, Sir.”
He prowled closer. I smiled bigger. Holy crap, he was good. So damn good.
“Miss Asher, I’ve been seeing a lot of you lately. Your behavior is getting out of hand. It’s possible some corrective action is necessary at this point.”
I gasped and worried my lips together. “No! Please, Headmaster. I promise, I promise I’ll be good.”
“That’s what you said last time, young lady.”
“But I mean it this time. I do. Really.”
“So tell me, why were you sent to my office? Exactly?” He eyed me carefully. I picked up the vibe instantly. He played along while trying to understand what I wanted out of all this. While we’d talked about the fantasy, we hadn’t exactly discussed a line-by-line. Really, I could never let this man go. He was clever enough and brave enough to go toe-to-toe with me on every level.
I blew another bubble for dramatic effect. Michael sighed, giving it equal weight. “Give me the gum, Miss Asher. You know it’s against school policy, and it’s unladylike to be chewing it in front of me.”
I slid another glance up at him. “You gonna make me?”
He walked back to the counter, grabbed a tissue from the box on it, then paced back over to cup it in front of my mouth.
“Spit it out.”
“No.”
“Do not defy me. It will only make things worse for you. It’s a disgusting habit anyway.” He pressed his other hand against the side of my face. “There are much better uses for that pretty little mouth.”

A bit about me…

I’ve been hooked on books since I was a kid but it got worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances–the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer manliness surrounded me, was certainly a good boost for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I guess you could say I was doomed–though my path toward romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets…backstage passes…that was a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, personal assistant work for a record producer, dance club disc jockey, and a lot of fun in the hospitality industry.

These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with our beautiful daughter. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.

Excerpt:

“Hello?” she called into an entry way. It looked like someone’s home. There were a multitude of people lounging about the living room, all of them watching an old black and white television. Without looking away from the screen, an old woman got up and walked towards Lily.
“Room?” she asked, still watching TV.
“No. I’m looking for my friend, he -” Lily started.
“Third floor, third room on right. You stay longer than two hours, I charge extra,” the woman warned her.
“Sounds fair to me.”
Lily slowly made her way up to his room. She didn’t want to come off as too eager. They’d been playing cat and mouse for a month under the assumption neither would get caught. Now that it was time to eat, she wasn’t quite ready to be the mouse.
The door to the third room on the right wasn’t locked. She was cautious as she opened the door, but the first thing she saw was the black duffle bag he’d taken off with, followed by the clothing he’d been wearing. She moved into the room and shut the door behind her.
She could hear water splashing around in the bathroom, so she took her time, looking over the space he’d been living in for the past month. It was simple. A room. A bed that was little more than a cot. A small table. One small chair. There had been electricity downstairs, but there didn’t seem to be any in his room. Three mismatched, stout candles were burning on the table, and those were the only light source.
The sound of water diminished to just a gurgling drain, so she made her way back towards the bathroom. Just as she grasped the knob, she felt it turn from the other side, and the door started to pull away. She smiled.
Samesies.
She lost her smile the same moment a hand wrapped around her neck. She let out a shriek as she was yanked around and slammed against a wall. The hand was replaced by a forearm, a much more effective body part for choking someone. She gritted her teeth, slapping at the arm that was restraining her.
“It’s me! It’s me!”
Marc looked surprised. And angry. He backed off a little and she sucked in gasps of air. His forearm moved to her collar bone, still holding her in place against the wall. She glared right back at him, resisting the urge to plant her knee in his testicles.
“What the fuck are you doing here!? How did you find me!?” he demanded, then his eyes darted around the room as if he thought she’d brought people with her.
“You weren’t exactly hard to follow, you idiot. You walked here,” she growled.
“I thought you were talking with Ivanov.”
“I was. It wasn’t a very long conversation.”
“I told you, I don’t let anyone know where I sleep,” he reminded her, his voice low.
“Well, I didn’t come here with any intentions of sleeping, so we’re still good.”
That got through to him and he finally smiled at her. The pressure from his arm let up, but he leaned more of his body against her, lining them up from the hips down.
“I told you to meet me at a bar,” he pointed out, lowering his head to brush his cheek against the side of hers, then dipping down to rub against her neck. She heard a sharp inhale, like he was smelling her.
“Sometimes I’m not very good at listening.”
“I have to be out of here in a couple hours.”
“I only need a couple hours.”
“That’s it? I had such high hopes for you.”
She snorted and moved her hands to his waist, yanking his towel away.
“And I had high hopes that your mouth would be good for something other than talking. So far, it’s a disappointment.”
His lips met hers in a way that made their first kiss seem like a church greeting. His tongue was present and forceful in her mouth, his hands moving to press heavily against her breasts. She moaned, reveling in the feeling of being touched. Of actually wanting to be touched.
She scratched her nails along his hips and went to dip down between them, but he was quicker, and he grabbed her wrists, slamming her arms against the wall above her head. She gasped and automatically tried to resist, but he just squeezed tighter, pushed harder. Cat and mouse was over, the roles had been established. If he didn’t want her to move, then she wasn’t going to be able to move.
Does that mean I’m in the mouse trap?

Guest Post

1. This is very different from your previous work – what was your inspiration behind BLP and what kind of research went into writing this book?

I love love LOVE action movies. I wanted something kind of gritty and raw, but I didn’t want it to be something that’s been done, I didn’t want drugs or hitmen. So I went with diamond heist and mercenaries. I wanted Marc to sort of have that John McClane “Die Hard” feel, very “IDGAF and I’ll say whatever I want, no matter how un-PC”, and I wanted Lily to be beyond badass, almost an anti-hero in her own right.
SO MUCH research went into the book, I had no idea what I was getting into – I just started writing, and then I got to the scene where Marc was in the shower, towards the beginning, and after I wrote it I sort of had a “wait a minute …” moment and realized there was a distinct possibility they wouldn’t have running water. So I started researching Liberia. My mind was blown. So many things in the story changed after that point. I constantly had Google open in one window and Google Maps opened in another window. Virtually every place they go in the book is a real place. For example: when a hotel is described, it is based on a real hotel I found on Trip Advisor and then cross referenced on Google Earth. EVERYTHING was like that. Half of my brain lived in Africa for two months.

2. A list of 5 reasons why fans/new readers should pick up this book

1. It’s different and it pushes boundaries, which I think everyone could do with a bit of, now and then

2. They might learn something they never knew about a different country, and learning is good

3. It’s a departure from my other works, but still has the erotica base that is my preferred genre (a.k.a. lots of steaminess haha)

4. It literally takes you on a journey

5. The summer is almost over – can’t end it without one last blockbuster big action flick!

3. What are you working on next? Can you give us a teaser/hint to book 2 in this series?

Book two is already written, it just needs to go through rewrites and edits and then it’s beta time! Next, I’m caught between two stories that I really want to work on – one dark, kind of going back to my Kane Trilogy roots. Weird love and crazy sex and uncomfortable emotions. The other is more romantic. Still angsty, more of the love-hate, will-they-won’t-they vibe. I don’t want to give anything away – it’ll be in a popular subgenre, but with a distinct twist, as I like to try to do with all my stories. Which will come next, I’m not sure, depends on which will speak to me the most. I hope to have something publish ready by March 2016.

Out of Plans (Book #2) teaser:

“You once said you would help me. Well, I need help,” Lily said.
“Of course, love. At your service,” Kingsley bowed his head.
“I want to learn everything. I want to be just as good as you. Just as good as him,” she added.
“Making you better than him will be easy, darling, but better than me? That’s impossible,” he teased. She rolled her eyes.
“And no flirting. Flirting is what got me into trouble in Africa. No flirting. No relationship. No sex,” she stressed. “Deal?”
“What deal? Sounds like you’re offering nothing in return,” he laughed, shaking her hand.
“Exactly. Sounds like a hell of a deal to me.”
“Dear god, you’ve already picked up on De Sant’s awful sense of humor. We have so much un-training to do,” Kingsley sighed.
“Whatever it takes. You train me, and I’ll help you in any way you want, with anything,” she offered.
“Mmmm, any way I want, huh,” his voice dropped low while his eyes wandered over her body.
“Look here, Law, I meant what I said – you touch me inappropriately even once, and I’ll break your hand in ways it can’t be fixed,” she warned him. He smiled and leaned close again.
“Ooohhh, I love it when you talk rough,” he hissed, sliding his bottom lip between his teeth.
“You won’t love it so much when I back it up with action. Now let’s get out of here.”

BLP Reviews

Rebecca

Living in the frozen depths of Alaska is a still (God knows how!!!) relatively unknown gem who goes by the name Stylo Fantome. As we now hit her sixth published book it is becoming more than clear that she is a talent who is here to stay, her flair and imagination, the complexity and emotional depth of her characters and stories combined with her ability to surprise with choice of genre or subject matter and yet still deliver every single time make her a one click automatic choice with no cover, blurb or info needed – just her author name alone.

THE PLAN:

* Smuggle diamonds from Liberia to Morocco
* Make the trip in three days
* Don’t get caught
* Don’t kill each other
* Don’t have sex with each other
* Don’t fall for each other
* STICK TO THE PLAN

This is the story of what happens when an unlikely bond is formed between enemies, causing tensions to rise, and igniting a chemistry that threatens to burn them both. Together, they’ll learn that sometimes even the best laid plans can fail.

Best Laid Plans is a rip roaring top fuel nitrous full on adrenaline ride from start to finish. It’s unexpected in places, shocking in some, doesn’t let go of you at any point, the pace fast, furious and hot as fuck. It’s a fabulous mix of suspense and intrigue, romance and violence, raw, passionate, brutal and did I remember to say HOT AS FUCK! Ms Fantome described it as ‘Romancing the Stone meets Die Hard with more sex’ and that’s pretty spot on!
Best Laid Plans surprised and shocked, made me gasp, laugh, smile, run for B.O.B and new batteries, had me nearly throwing my kindle in total fucking disgust at the end while cursing Ms Fantome to the heavens and wondering what I have to promise to get my hands on book 2.
Abso- fucking-lutely fabulous.

Lily.
One of the strongest female leads you could hope for, resourceful, determined, tough, gorgeous, and totally unafraid to use any weapon at her disposal to be successful and survive in a male dominated environment.

“That woman will fuck your world up. She looks like a pin up, fucks like a porn star, and fights like Tyson.”

“She giggled. Marc was pretty sure he’d never heard that sound come out of her before – it was like finding out a bobcat could giggle. Bizarre.”

Marc.
The man who puts the dominant in that world, oh lordy no panties required. Mercenary badass alpha with a good dose of cynicism and pure sex added.

Kingsley.
Oh my darlings, Kingsley. If you thought Sanders was the best secondary character then hold your horses because, for me, Kingsley is on par.

So what do we have to sum up?
A story set in different countries all rich and vibrant leaping off the page, romance told with the usual Stylo Fantome class, captivating, raw, brutal and flawless, a high octane full on, does not stop for a second mercenaries, car chases, guns, stealing, jewels, sex, fighting big bucks blockbuster of a book. No holds barred, not for pussies and fucking awesome.

Find the time, one click and disappear for a while to read.
Just like Die Hard and Romancing the Stone stay in our memories long after they have ended so will Best Laid Plans – an author can give us, the reader, no greater gift.

About the Author

stylo buttonCrazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since …, forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.
Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

BLP Review – Tracy

I’m a sucker for a second chance at love story – and one that is packed with action and intrigue as well as a hit of heat and romance definitely piques my interest!!!

Jordan runs back to the place the people that she ran from to escape her abusive father years ago – it broke her to leave it all behind but she made the best of things, even if it meant never seeing the boy she loved. Now she returns to lick her wounds after a divorce and to begin a new life with her two little girls.
The hurt and heartbreak that Gavin suffered when Jordan left years ago is understandable but his need and resolve to take care of her and her daughters, regardless of what happened in their past, was instinctual and nigh on unstoppable.

The story moved along quite quickly and the mystery surrounding the fires was interesting and kept me guessing through the read.

The supporting characters were all really likeable and I’m looking forward to finding out more about Gavin’s family!

‘Brave the Heat’ was a really good read. I liked both Gavin & Jordan from the outset and from the get go hoped that they could rekindle their love and passion – but with a series of fires and mysterious goings on happening all around them I began to wonder if they would get the chance to work things out and get to know each other again!

Sara Humphreys started this new series with, what was for me, a 5* read that I would definitely recommend and I can’t wait to get my hands on more of the McGuire Brothers!

Author: Claudia Connor

Publisher: Loveswept

Genre: Contemporary Romance

 Release Date: September 9, 2014

Blurb

They meet on a beach. . . . Abby Davis isn’t wearing a skimpy bikini or sipping umbrella drinks, not when she’s busy chasing around four little ones. And Matt McKinney isn’t looking for fun—he’s a Navy SEAL, a grown man with a long list of missions . . . and fallen brothers.

They only have a week. . . . Abby has brought her children to this beach to start over, to give them the enjoyable memories they deserve. Matt’s been sidelined by a combat injury, and haunted by the best friend he lost and the promise he made: to remain a SEAL—focused and dedicated. This leaves no time for what he’s always wanted: a family.

But a week is all it takes. . . . Matt opens her heart while Abby soothes his soul. And though they plan to say good-bye when the week is over, something magical happens on that beach, something neither can forget. Something utterly, completely worth falling for.

NOTE FROM CLAUDIA

& CHARACTER INTERVIEW

Happy first birthday to Matt and Abby!! I can’t believe it’s been a year since Worth The Fall left the nest of my tiny writing closet and went into the world. I can’t thank you all enough for reading, for sharing, and for loving Matt, Abby, and the kids as much as I do. I hope you enjoyed catching up with them in Worth The Risk and you’ll get another sweet update in JT’s, book Worth It All.

Matt and Abby mean so much to me and Worth the Fall is about falling in love, making choices and taking chances. It’s also about believing you’re enough, believing you’re worthy of what’s being offered. I absolutely LOVE these characters. I spent three years with them before I ever considered writing their story, then almost three more years writing it. Any minute of any day, I can pop into their lives, be a fly on the wall. It’s like watching your favorite movie that never ends!

Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with Matt and ask him some fun questions. 10 questions, to be exact!

10 questions from Inside the Actor’s Studio:

“Thanks for having me.” Matt sits back in the leather club chair and checks his watch. “I’ve got ten minutes before all hell breaks loose but we’ll do what we can.” *smiles*

1. What is your favorite word?

Hmm…The first word that comes to mind is glubs, Mary’s word for gloves. She’s three now and we were outside the other day and she said, “It’s cold. I weally need my glubs.” Now we all call gloves glubs. Makes me smile every time I hear it.

2. What is your least favorite word?

Vomit. Or more like the phrase, “I just threw up”. I cringe and thank God for my wife who handles things like that way better than I do.

3. What turns you on?

That’s easy. Abby. Everything about her turns me on. Dressed up and in heels, that’s killer. But a t-shirt and sweats does it for me too. Hair down, I run my fingers through it. Hair up, I kiss her neck. Hearing her laugh, seeing her smile, watching her…um…Sorry. *smiles embarrassed and runs a hand through his hair* Your fault for leading my mind there. Next question.

4. What turns you off?

Black licorice, black jelly beans. Always has. My brothers used to put all of theirs in my Easter basket. They paid dearly for that.

5. What sound do you love?

Favorite sound…I guess it’d be the combination of sounds when we’re all out in the backyard and everyone’s happy. Abby and I were just talking about this the other day, how much we love that sound. *wide smile* Even if it only lasts a minute without anyone needing a bandaid or fighting over a swing, it’s a beautiful sound.

6. What sound do you hate?

The alarm clock. Every damn morning. I still wake up around four, a habit from the military, but the alarm says time to get up. Time to leave Abby all warm and wrapped up beside me. Or okay…yeah. *sheepish grin* Maybe she’s not always asleep.

7. What is your favorite curse word?

Fuck. It works. And when I’m alone I tend to let an entire string fly, get it all out. It’s obviously a no-go at home.

8. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?

*thinks for a second, shakes his head slowly* Sorry. I got nothing. I honestly can’t think of a single thing I’d rather be doing. Every house I flip is something new and different. Abby helps me with the details, like what tile goes with what granite, and all that. I’m home in the morning to help get the kids ready for school. I’m here at night for homework, bath, and bed, which can turn into a full scale assault. I honestly don’t think my life could be any better.

9. What profession would you not like to do?

*shrugs* Anything that’s not this.

10. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?

I hope he’d say, false alarm. Like, Hey, Matt. Just checking in, you can go back now. Because the thought of leaving my family is… It’s just not something I ever want to think about.

BLP REVIEW ~ Rebecca

I’m struggling as I write this review which is irritating because ‘Worth the Fall‘ was a 100% 5 star, loved it read and a totally unexpected pleasure – everything I’ve written doesn’t do it justice and, in a sea of choices for romance, I want it to stand out, to somehow express how sweet this story is.

Claudia Connor reminded me why I read romance, why I love a man in uniform and how when family, love, humour and romance is done well, just how invested and captivated I can be in a book and its characters. She’s a new author to me but one I will be investigating further (AKA Stalking!!!).

When I want that mix of romance, humour, hot and heart-warming my go to authors are Kristen Ashley, Rachel Gibson, Jennifer Crusie, Marie Harte, Susan Andersen and Jessica Prince. Claudia Connor was an unknown to me but her style is much like these favourites of mine. The cover is deceptive because this is not just your average military boy meets girl, hot and steamy commences then HEA, boom, done.
It’s a lovely, sweet tale that has grabbed you before you know it, the writing flows so easily. Matt and Abby you will root for, the children totally steal the show and whilst the couple have their issues and angst as the relationship progresses, I smiled through the whole book. Matt is all hot military alpha career man, Abby is a widow pregnant with her fifth child when they meet and it’s so refreshing to have a man happy and comfortable to take on kids. I love all the interactions between them, Annie, Jack, Gracie and Charlie will steal your heart as effortlessly as they steal Matt’s.

Before I read this I probably would have said sex with a pregnant woman would not be hot in a romance book, just goes to show how wrong I was because Oh Boy ** Fans Face ** !!!!!!!!!
This one, if you love this genre, has it all – humour, hot and steamy, romantic, heart-warming, emotional, sweet and captivating, I thoroughly enjoyed it and this was her debut book so I’m looking forward to reading ‘Worth the Risk‘ because this was a damn fine start to her career.

About UNEASY IN NEW ORLEANS

FINNIGAN JONES HAS A PASSION FOR COOKING AND A PECHANT FOR TROUBLE.

Dead bodies aren’t on Finn’s New Orleans walking tour of cemeteries and haunted houses. Ditto disappearing bodies. Now she has to explain to Detective Jack Boyle how her missing corpse has turned up in the Mississippi putting her smack-dab in the middle of a murder investigation.

Unfortunately, another of Finn’s odd jobs is taking questionable photos for Jack’s PI brother, Tommy. After she snaps shots of a dubious pair of lovebirds, they stalk her, then kidnap her. Now Finn’s dealing with two lunatics intent on killing her. Or driving her crazy. She’s not sure which.

Because lunatics and smokin’-hot brothers aren’t enough trouble, she’s gossiping, yes gossiping, with a chef ghost at culinary school, cat-sitting her aunt’s six felines and attempting to corral her wayward teenage sister.

All Finn wants is to survive school and become the best chef in the world.

FINN’S LIFE IS ABOUT TO GET EVEN MORE COMPLICATED.

Excerpt

She heard a faint noise. She wasn’t alone. A tall stranger whose face looked familiar came toward her, his strides long and deliberate. “You the one takin’ pictures of me?”

“No,” she automatically lied.

His tone left little doubt about how he felt about her. ‘Dislike’ would be too kind.

‘Outraged and highly motivated to harm her’ seemed more likely. Which was when she remembered why he looked familiar. Franco, the wandering husband she’d photographed last night in all his pants-around-his-ankles glory. It took a nano-second to register the thought that he shouldn’t have known where to find her before extreme terror kicked in.

Closer to the stairs than Tommy’s office, Finn managed to dash past him in her rarely-worn heels.

He grabbed at her but she ducked. She reached the outer door and twisted the doorknob. He yanked her from behind, and pulled her toward him. A nasty blast of stale breath hit her in the face. The knob slipped from her sweaty hand. She wrenched her backpack off and screamed. She swung it and connected with his head. He grunted and lost his grasp on her.

Finn took advantage of the moment and wrenched open the door. She scrambled out to the landing. With one foot on the first step, he jerked her by the back of her sweater. She screamed bloody murder again and swung around to hit him.

Tommy appeared and yanked Franco up, smashing him in the jaw. The man stood in the tiny space swaying. Finn took advantage. She swung her backpack. This time, Franco sidestepped. And she hit Tommy full force.

He lost his balance, arms cartwheeling in the air as he reached for the rail. He missed and tumbled down the steps, crashing against each riser with a horrible thump until he lay crumpled at the bottom. Franco raced down the stairs, hurtled over Tommy’s prone body, then disappeared up the dark alley.

Finn flew down the steps, her backpack forgotten. Tommy lay at the bottom, his eyes closed, his jaw clenched.

She knelt by his side, her breath jerking in and out. She patted his cheek, and prayed he wasn’t dead. She couldn’t take two dead bodies in one day, no matter how insensitive it sounded.

He opened one eye and squinted at her, his face pinched. “Hell, I, I broke my…damn it all to hell…my damned leg.”

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I’ll start by saying that Uneasy in New Orleans was a fairly decent read but it did leave me wanting – for all I enjoyed the book overall, I felt a little ‘uh, that’s it?!’ when I hit the last page……

From the blurb we had the heroine gossiping with a ghost chef – I love PNR so I would have liked more when it came to these interactions. There was mention of 2 smokin’ hot brothers so I was kinda expecting (and looking forward to) a bit of romance ~ not so much going on there!!
There was some action, a bit of adventure and a little mystery but it all felt somewhat anti-climatic when we got to the bottom of that too!

Finn’s aunt and younger sister were quite fun and were likeable characters.
There were some laughs and lighthearted moments and the writing was pretty good, there were just some things that took the book down a bit in my opinion.

The ex-bf – I couldn’t quite understand why he had made an appearance and that was never cleared up (maybe something that will be disclosed in book 2?!)
There was mention of a third sister – to be honest, I was kind of at a loss to understand why her character was even mentioned for the most part (again, maybe she’ll be more involved in the second book!)

A couple of things happened and I found the outcome to not be quite what I was expecting… I’ve always said when you read a book you sometimes have to suspend belief/reality but given the incidents I felt a more ‘real’ reaction/outcome would have been better!!

I will pick up the second book when it’s released because there was the possible beginnings of something that I’d be interested to see played out – and as I said I did think it was overall an enjoyable read – my only hope is that we get a bit more background and insight into the characters in the rest of the series (and maybe some explanations to things that happened previously that were mentioned but not expanded on!)!!

I rate Uneasy in New Orleans a 3.5*
