BLP REVIEW – Tracy

I’ve read Freya Barker since book one and regardless of what number story we reach I’m as excited to read the new one as I was way back at the beginning.

Ms B never disappoints and she never fails to hit the mark when it comes to characters and storylines. I’m loving the On Call series and am looking forward to more.

Dissecting Meredith was a fab instalment and I liked both the Doc and Jay.

Meredith Carter is a quirky, unique, down to earth woman who owns who she is, works damned hard and, due to having to prove her worth in her role as the county coroner, doesn’t get sidetracked by her private life. Until Jay!!!

Jay VanDyken has had his eye on the Doc for a while but his own issues have held him back from trying to gain her interest, until a change in his own life makes him go for what he wants.

I love the build up of relationships we get in a book fro Freya. That her characters are a little bit older, have issues and baggage and that their lives are not nice and straightforward is very relatable. The storylines are interesting and engaging, packed with intrigue, suspense and action. As ever we got to catch up with some of our favourite characters from both this and other series which is always great.

You could read this as a standalone but I really would recommend you go back and start at the beginning as this series is definitely one to devour.

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

I knew reading the A Merry Vested Wedding novella that I was gonna fall in love with this new series from Melanie Moreland and I wasn’t wrong…..

Following on from the BAM boys stories, this series focuses on the lives and loves of their grown children.

Grace VanRyan is such a daddy’s girl… both in her relationship with her father but also in how like him she is in manner and characteristics (though she shares a load of traits with her mom!!). I love that she is so focussed on what she wants to do, knows her mind and loves with her whole heart. I hated when she was hurt, even though I understood the reasoning when it was revealed, it still broke my heart that she had felt the way she did..

Jaxson Richards comes across as an arrogant ass except when, for the most part, he’s dealing with Grace. The confirmed bachelor is knocked for six when he meets Gracie and to be honest, he’s not got a chance in hell of recovering…. until he blows it big time!!! Again, I got it, afterwards.. but at the time I wanted to throw him under a train!

The road to their HEA was not going to be an easy one for Jaxson, but I loved that he was a determined and stubborn as his Gracie. She gave him a run for his money but gods, I was rooting for them from the get go and I couldn’t wait to see how things would go for them.

Catching up with the BAM family and meeting the ABC kids whose books are coming was a lot of fun and reminded me of exactly why I adore Melanie’s writing.

I’m so looking forward to the next book in the series and finding out who’s gonna be next to fall…..

A must read in my opinion.

Lordy, Lordy….. if I thought Mitch Landry was hot in Oh, Fudge I was seriously underestimating the guy!! Everything about him is adorable, except maybe his dirty talking… yeah, that’s something else! 😉

I couldn’t get enough of this pair. Following Mitch’s visit and a fifth… yeah a FIFTH out of the blue proposal, Paige Asher decides to take him up on his offer of a place to escape to. She figures a pit stop in Autre, Louisiana on her way to the next chapter of her life will let her escape the craziness in Appleby, spend a little fun time with Mitch and clear her mind. What she didn’t bargain on was Mr Landry on his own turf!!!

Mitch knew what and who he wanted, he also knew what not to say to give himself a chance to get Paige to see that he was exactly what she needed.

Only thing is, will his crazy family, who are always trying to pair folk off scare her away before he has a chance to win her over?

I loved how off kilter Mitch had Paige. How well she integrated into the coming and goings in the Bayou, how she fit in with his friends and family and how Paige eventually herself worked out exactly hat she wanted!!

An excellent read from Erin Nicholas. Her books are some of my favourite reads and I cannot wait to find out what’s next down on the Bayou.

“Want to give it a try?” he asked. 

I frowned. “What, me? In there?” I pointed to the ring, the walls made of black chain link fencing. “That looks like something out of a Mad Max movie.”

He smiled. “Come on. I’ll show you what I do, but you have to promise not to hurt me.”

He sat down on a metal bench that was next to the ring, took off his hat and toed off his boots and socks. He was serious, so I slipped off my flip flops. Leading me up the steps to the elevated fighting ring, he let me step in the ring first. The floor was firm, but it had a little give. “I have no idea what to do.”

“Okay, so you want to stand like this and put your hands up in fists, here and here.”He stood beside me, and I copied his stance. “Good.”

He moved to face me, hands up like mine. “Punch me.”

My eyes widened, and I dropped my arms. “Are you serious? I can’t punch you,”I said, looking at the other men who were over by the locker rooms, taking off their gloves and squirting water in their mouths from their water bottles. “Besides, we aren’t even wearing gloves.”

“Think of something that makes you mad. Got it?”

The first thing that came to mind was Jack. My eyes narrowed. “Yeah, I got it. My ex.”

He offered a quick smile. “Good. Now pretend I’m him. Punch him. Left, right. Like you mean it.”

I lifted my arms back to the position he’d shown me, then thrust out with my left hand. Gray’s arm came up to block my strike. When I shifted my stance and punched with my right, I felt my feet come out from underneath me, and the next thing I knew, his hands were on me and I was on my back on the ring’s mat with Gray sideways on top of me. In the blink of an eye—and with a care I doubted he gave to his usual opponents—he’d swept me to the ring floor. Gray’s chest was pressed into mine, and his face loomed over me. I was breathing hard, perhaps from the surprise move, but most likely because I had him on top of me, his mouth only inches from mine. There was no question he could hurt me, no way I could defend myself from him. Sure, I hadn’t really tried to punch him all that hard or quickly, but still. A champion fighter, he was so far out of my league. I knew, though, if I pushed against him, he’d let me up. I wasn’t afraid of him. I was in awe. And in lust. If I was this turned on with all our clothes on and in front of other people, what would it be like with him naked? And alone? 

I licked my lips. My heart raced, and surely he could feel it. I could feel every inch of him, see the whiskers on his jaw, the darkness of his eyes. “Now what do you do?” I whispered. 

Gray’s gaze lowered to my mouth. “If you were my competition, I’d try to either choke you out or do an arm bar.”

I felt every hard muscle of his torso, even though he held himself off of me with his forearms. Regardless, I felt pinned and at his mercy. I did not mind in the slightest. 

“Choking doesn’t sound like fun, and I have no idea what an arm bar is,”I replied, licking my lips. 

“Neither are fun,” he said, his gaze dropping once again to my mouth. “As for you—”

His eyes lifted to mine, and I blushed. “—I take you to lunch.”

He levered off me, stood and held out his hand. I just laid there for a few seconds and looked up at him. I had been ready for him to kiss me, and I’d loved how he felt pressing me down. My body felt taunted and now neglected. Was he torturing me on purpose?

The guys were going to kill him.
Ollie scrubbed a hand over his face.
They wouldn’t be surprised, of course. But they were going to be pissed.
They’d all known that Piper quitting was a risk and that one day she’d probably wise-up and lose her patience and that would be it.
They’d also all known that when it happened there was a 90 percent chance it would be because of Ollie.
The other 10 percent chance was that it would be because of Ollie and Dax together.
And now it had finally happened.
If it came down to choosing between him and Piper, he wasn’t sure he wanted to know how that debate would end up. Or how short the discussion would be before they decided they wanted and needed her more.
That was only one of the reasons he hadn’t told them yet.
The other was because he was still processing the part where she’d said she loved him.
What was he supposed to do with that?
She wasn’t just supposed to say that out loud right to him, was she? He had not been expecting that. The guys and their girlfriends had insinuated for a while now that Piper might have a crush on him but no, he hadn’t expected her to ever say anything herself.

Piper Barry was amazing. She was gorgeous. She was smart. She was capable. She could do anything. She was funny and sweet and sassy and tough.

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

Erin Nicholas writes a fabulous series and Hot Cakes is a fave of mine!!

Ollie & Piper…. finally…

I have to admit, I wasn’t sure that I was gonna be a fan of Ollie especially as he’s seemed so oblivious of Piper and her attraction to him…. but Lordy, did Erin ever make me fall for him.

Ollie was adorable when he finally pulled his head from his butt and saw what he was potentially losing with Piper. I loved his attention to detail and his fun loving side, but more so I loved how he finally acknowledged his own feelings for the one woman who has taken care of him and put up with his nonsense for more time than anyone – his friends aside- would have!!

Piper was feisty, fun and determined and I adored her for her focus on Ollie and the new chapter of her life that she was stepping into. She has such a big heart and unique way of looking at life. Her love for her family – both blood and chosen – was there for all to see….as were her feeling for Ollie, even when she felt she had no choice but to walk away.

This book was a fun, laugh out loud, feel good read and exactly what I needed when reading about this couple.

I love Pippa Grant’s books. They are fun, fill the heart and honestly make me smile and laugh out loud.

The Hot Mess and the Heartthrob is the fourth in the BroCode series and I think it’s my favourite.

We’ve always known that Levi Wilson wasn’t gonna be an atypical celeb. Surrounded by the friends and family we’ve already met in Pippa’s books, it was pretty much a certainty he was gonna be a good guy, but I wasn’t expecting just how good he was gonna be!!!

Ingrid Scott was awesome. Hard working, own boss, mum to three kids who each have a busy schedule (gods, I could barely cope with the after school and social schedule of one kid, just can’t imagine dealing with more!!). I loved how down to earth Ingrid was. How she saw through the name to the real man behind – that she saw how down to earth, how kind and honest he was. She was tireless in her caring abs thoughts for her kids, continually overlooking her own wants and needs. Thank the gods Levi didn’t give up on her!!!

This was a kinda slow burn with our MCs but there was more at stake than two adult heart here and that was more important that loads of ‘grown up time’ happening on the page (though PG certainly knows how to write those scenes when they do happen!!)

They were both exactly what the other needed. I loved that they both had to get to grips with the fact that they were taking on more than just each other!

The addition of kids, family, friends, furries and associated others rounded out what for me was a great read!

I cannot wait up find out what’s going on with Davis and to read more about Cash!!
