A series of events threaten both her life and livelihood, forcing Kathleen to question the circumstances of her dad’s death. Soon she’s searching for treasure under the watchful eyes of a rugged undercover ICE agent, a hot marine archeologist and perhaps…a killer.

Excerpt #1:

“Go back to Boston, Cassidy. Do yourself a favor and sell me the bar and the land. Just take the money and run.”

“The name isn’t Cassidy,” I muttered for the one thousandth time. “Call me Kathleen or don’t bother to call me.”

Joe Scipio planted his six-foot three frame on the stool opposite me. I stood safely behind the bar – separated from him by a width of approximately three feet and seven inches. Everything about Joe Scipio intimidates me. When he walks through the door, my whole body goes into a weird vibrate mode. Like my heart starts to dance. And my brain leaps into a tumbling team routine.

He stood in front of his desk, tension radiating from the ri-gidity of his shoulders when he asked in a rough voice, “What’s his name?” At the change in Grant’s voice, Brewster sat up on his bed and glanced back and forth between them.

“Avery.”

“You love him?”

She turned to him, hoping he would get the point when she said, “I do.”

She saw it. The flash of hurt before he masked it. “So it’s se-rious?”

“We own a home together.”

He shook his head. “That’s not an answer.”

She held her hands up, palms out. “It’s the only one I have.”

He stalked her, a predatory gleam in his eye. She knew the look—in the right situation, that look alone could get her half-way to a mind-shattering orgasm. Something she hadn’t experi-enced since him. Talk about the wrong time to acknowledge that only he had the power to turn her inside out with pleasure, almost to the point of pain.

“And what about us?”

Her heart tumbled in her chest. She held eye contact. She needed him to understand. So that no matter how close he got, no matter what he did, she would not back down. “There is no us.”

“We kissed,” he whispered. His eyes locked on her mouth. She struggled to keep still and not squirm under his intense stare.

“You kissed me. There’s a difference.”

“You kissed me back.” He laughed without humor. “There’s something. At some point, we’ll have to address it.”

She took a deep breath and tried another tactic. “Aren’t you seeing someone? I mean, you went somewhere Saturday night, a sleepover.”

He smirked at her. “I see someone.”

“So it’s not serious?” The words were out before she thought about what she had done, and his smile grew. She’d showed an interest. She’d screwed up, and his smug expression said he was celebrating his victory.

“I don’t do serious.”

His tone invited no argument, but the reporter in her wanted to know. So did the woman. “Why?”

“I just don’t.”

It was her turn to smirk at him. “Now who’s full of it?”

“Don’t,” he bit out.

“Can’t handle it?”

With surprising speed, he spun toward her. He leaned his face within inches of hers, the muscle along his jaw jumping. “Can you, Erynn? Can you handle it?”

“Absolutely.” She stood her ground, leaning toward him with almost as much aggression as he’d leveled at her. “I don’t do serious because—” He closed his eyes, and when he opened them again she saw more agony in those their depths than she thought possible. “I’ll never give another woman enough of me that she has the power to gut me when she walks away. Not. Ever. Again.”

About Melanie Jayne

I live on a grain farm southeast of Indianapolis, Indiana with my very patient husband of twenty-five years and our two English Mastiffs, Buster Brown and Ginger. I graduated from Indiana University when it was the #1 party school in the country and I took great pride in helping the school achieve that ranking.

I haven’t figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I change careers every decade. I have worked in retail, a federal courtroom, travelled across the state closing loans, and behind the scenes in a casino.

I’ve always had an active imagination so when a good friend suggested that I try writing a book, I thought why not, it should be fun. It has, but I have had to work very hard to learn how to do it. I am so lucky for the outpouring of advice and education from so many in the industry, plus the hand-holding and cheerleading from My Gurls. I also have an incredible Ad-man-istrative Assistant, who tries to keep me under control. He rolls his eyes so much that I worry about a permanent condition.

When I ‘m not working or writing type stuff, I sleep, watch courtroom TV shows, and sports. I was a competitive pro-am ballroom dancer for ten years and I read as many books as I can.

I love to attend Author-Reader Conventions and look forward to meeting you.

Fifteen Years Ago

Hale Cameron looked around the small apartment slowly, trying to memorize every nook and cranny. It was Finn’s apartment, but after their engagement, she’d been there almost every night. She’d moved more of her things into the space that Finn had willingly shared. Then, as the preparations for the Glass trial took more and more of Finn’s time, she’d stayed over less and less.

“Honey, the clock’s ticking. What’s left to do?” her dad asked quietly.

“Everything’s packed and loaded. I think we’re done here,” Hale replied as she circled the living room, touching a book on one of the shelves, straightening the antique hourglass that she had given Finn during their first Christmas together.

“I thought there would be more of your stuff here.” Hale focused on Jasmine Wayne Benton, her best friend since infancy. Jasmine looked like she wanted to make a run for the door.

“You can go. Thanks for all of your help. I know this puts you in a tough position.” Jasmine’s fiancé was Finn’s best friend. She’d have to explain to him, and therefore Finn, why Hale was leaving. How could she explain what she didn’t understand?

Jasmine took a deep breath as she approached Hale. “I just want you to be happy. You could stay, maybe you and Finn could work things out. I don’t want you to leave.”

Hale hugged her friend. “I have to go, Jazz. I need to get away from this town. I need to figure out who I am and I can’t do it here.”

“I would help you.”

“I know you would, but I need to do this on my own.”

“I wish you would wait and talk to Finn. What time is he supposed to get back?”

“The interview with Channel 8 News is being taped at three and after that he has to meet with a reporter from the Indianapolis Star. He’ll be tied up for hours. He might not even miss me until tomorrow.”

“He should never have taken on the job of representing Doug Glass.”

“That was just a part of our many problems. The Glass case will make his career. He’s a media star for winning the case. You know how important that is to him.”

Jasmine pulled Hale’s left hand into hers and gently rubbed the now unadorned ring finger. “He loves you. This is going to kill him.”

“I tried and tried to tell him that I was unhappy. He was either too busy to talk, or told me that I should be happy that he treated me like a princess.” Bitterness crept into her tone. “I don’t want to be that kind of woman.”

“You mean like me?” Jasmine turned defensive.

“No, not like you. You’re doing what you want, right? You love Izzy. You’re going to graduate and teach kids. Have the career you chose. Someday you’ll have some kids of your own, run the PTA, and be a great mom. Finn’s plan for me is to enjoy our engagement, be pretty, smile, and attend dinners, and then after we marry, stay at home and join charity committees. I would be his accessory. That’s not me. I want to be a partner, and I want my voice to be heard. I need to find out who I am so I can have a voice.”

“Can’t the two of you work this out?”

“Finn wants to give that life to his wife. I don’t want it. These past months have been miserable. I can’t live like this.”

Jasmine started to speak but Hale cut her off. “I’m going to miss you, but I have to go somewhere that my family’s name means nothing. Somewhere I’m not judged by my mama’s actions or my daddy’s money. I’ve done nothing to earn my place, everything I have comes from family money. I need to figure out who I am and I can’t do that here. Plus, there’s a part of me that’s broken and the only person that can fix me is me.”

Hale kissed Jasmine’s cheek and gave her one last hug. She watched her best friend walk to the door and leave.

Eight minutes after I stepped off the elevator, thirty seconds faster than the last time—because, you know, my life had become so fucking routine that I’d started timing that shit—after enduring the record-breaking, twenty-seven-degree low—hey, this was Texas—I stepped into the coffee shop around the corner from my condominium building, inhaling the scent of homemade blueberry scones and freshly brewed coffee.

“Mornin’, Jake,” the young woman behind the counter greeted as I approached, her smile friendly, her gaze inquisitive.

“Morning, Kim.”

“The usual?” she asked, looking up at me, one hand cocked on her hip.

Staring into the glass display case, I perused the items momentarily as though I might actually choose something different than the usual. For the past six months, I’d been coming to the coffee shop at least once every two or three days, ordering a blueberry scone and a strong, black coffee—not exactly the thing that would help my bad boy image. Then again, I was kind of a simple guy. Perhaps I kept my order uncomplicated because the rest of my life was chaotic enough. Whatever the reason, I didn’t see change in my near future.

Looking back at Kim, I smiled. “Yeah. The usual.”

As Kim rang me up, her dark eyes darted down to the notebook in my hand. “That’s new. What happened to the laptop?”

I followed her gaze down to the leather-bound book. “Thought I’d try something different today.”

Kim laughed. “But you still ordered a blueberry scone and black coffee.” It wasn’t a question. She cocked her head. “Sounds about right.”

Passing her my credit card, I shrugged. “Can’t step too far outta the box. Wouldn’t wanna get hurt.”

Kim gifted me with another laugh, handed back my card, and went to work on getting my order ready. While I waited, I glanced around, looking for an empty table. There was only one left—in the far corner near the window, which would be perfect provided I could get to it before anyone else did.

“Here you go,” Kim called out. “Go wild.”

Everyone loved to do the play on my last name. Rarely did I ever hear anyone come up with something unique, but I’d learned to play along. “Funny.”

“I try.” Kim waved me off with her fingers. “Now go write something. We’re all waiting for the next masterpiece.”

Yeah, so was I.

I secured the notebook under my arm, grabbed the scone, a napkin, and my coffee, then weaved my way through the people scattered about. Careful not to run into anyone, I was about to give myself a mental pat on the back for making it all the way through without any mishaps, right up until…

Shit. “Sorry,” I muttered when I bumped the arm of a woman who’d been hunched over one of the round tables. At least I thought it was a woman. Too small to be a man, but thanks to the hood covering their head, I couldn’t be sure.

Turning, I slid into the chair at the table in the corner, dropping my load before lifting my gaze to see who I’d bumped and if they were ready to burn me alive with a scathing glare.

Definitely a woman. But she wasn’t scowling back at me. In fact, she wasn’t looking at me at all. Instead…

My eyes dropped to the notebook in front of her. “Are you … playing tic-tac-toe?” I found myself blurting before I could think better of it.

The woman’s gaze lifted, and I was then staring into eyes the color of storm clouds, such a mesmerizing shade that I was momentarily stunned, my hangover all but forgotten.

Damn, she was pretty.

And I’d never been more grateful that I’d stopped to take a shower than I was right then.

A lock of hair peeked out from beneath the thin white hoodie she wore, and my attention drifted down to her shoulder as I tried to decipher the color. Pink? Orange? I know, being an author, I should’ve said something along the lines of magenta or salmon, but seriously. Being a guy, I didn’t give colors fancy names. Regardless, I wasn’t quite sure what the color was, but I was fairly certain that it wasn’t natural.

“Yeah,” she said softly, the labret piercing beneath her lip twinkling briefly before she returned her attention to her game.

“Who usually wins?” I asked, dropping my eyes back to the paper, then up again as I pushed the hood off my head, secretly hoping she’d do the same.

She didn’t.

Those gray eyes raised to meet mine once more, and this time one of her eyebrows lifted, and if I wasn’t mistaken, the corner of her lip curled slightly. Interesting. Her lips… I tried not to stare, but it wasn’t easy. Not only did she have a piercing beneath her lip, she had a ring that circled her plump bottom lip twice (or appeared to) on the right side, as well as a diamond stud in her nose and a barbell in her left eyebrow. Even with those distracting me, I couldn’t help but notice her glossy mouth matched the color of her hair.

As did her eyebrows. Did women actually do that now? Color their eyebrows?

“I normally do,” she said, and I assumed she was referring to winning the games, not coloring her eyebrows. Unless of course she was a mind reader, then … well, if that were the case, then I probably needed to censor my thoughts, because yes, more than once since my ass had hit the chair, I’d pictured her naked.

Small, curvy … fucking naked.

Another smile flirted with the corner of her coral-pink lips. (Yep, I went there—coral. My new favorite color.)

His eyes are hard this time as he tells me, “Go, Sarah. I mean it.”

I shake my head. “No.”

He steps into me and growls. “Telling you for your own good. Fuck, do it. Go.”

“You can’t scare me away, Zeb.”

He growls to himself and moves away. “You think you can help me? That it?”

“Just tell me what you need.”

He scoffs. “What I need, huh?” He strides back to me and gets in my face, forcing me to back up. My ass hits the hood of the hummer. He leans in to me and slaps his hands down either side of me, boxing me in. “What I need ain’t something you can give me.”

“Wh…what?” I struggle to get out, finding it hard to breathe with him suddenly this close.

“I need to get some shit outta my head. Outta my system. And the way I do that is booze or sex. But both…both I gotta do hard-core. No holds barred. All right? You wanted to know. Now you do.”

He pushes off the truck and steps back from me.

“You need…your whores?”

His eyes narrow. “Ain’t no more whores for me!” he yells, really pissed at my question.

“What?”

“We’re together now! You and me. And I don’t cheat, woman! You hear me?”

Oh. Okay, then. I guess I have my answer on that at last. But then…then he’s saying now we’re together, he can’t get what he needs…sexually? How dare he?

“Come here!” I find myself demanding angrily all of a sudden.

He starts in surprise at this sudden flare up of spunkiness from me. It has him stepping up to me again. “Yeah?”

I hold my hands out to the sides. “Take it.”

“No,” he says, shaking his head vehemently.

“Why not?”

“Cuz…you ain’t…it ain’t you. Too rough…no…no…no.”

I grab his arms and his gaze snaps to mine. “Zeb, don’t tell me who, or what I am. How dare you think you can decide this for me? How dare you refuse to let me help you? For days you’ve just been avoiding me. And then you tell me we’re together…in your mind. It’s not fair! You can’t do this to me! You can’t decide everything in this…this…relationship of ours!” I stomp my foot and yell, “It’s not fair! Stop it!”

He just stares at me, unmoving, for several long seconds of intense silence.

And then he says, “Tell me to stop.”

Before I can get a word out, he lunges at me and attacks me with his mouth.

Oh shit!

He kisses me harder than he ever has. He doesn’t wait for my permission this time either, before shoving his tongue into my mouth. I can barely breathe as his lips, tongue and teeth devour my mouth, taking intense possession of every part.

He grabs my wrists then as he leans over me, forcing me to lay back on the hood of the truck. He pulls them up over my head and pins them there with one hand. With his other, he grabs my ass and jerks me up onto the hood so my back is flat against it.

He breaks our kiss as he climbs onto me, straddling my hips, while his hand continues to trap mine above my head, holding me at his mercy.

“Tell me. Tell me to stop, Sarah.”

I shake my head. “No,” I pant, struggling to catch my breath from the intensity.

He shakes off his cut and then he’s ripping his t-shirt over his head in the next second and revealing those amazing rock solid abs of his. He smirks at the look on my face as his fingers glide down to his jeans. He pops the fly and he’s pushing them down frantically then. He’s not wearing any boxers and I gasp when his dick comes into view, as he pushes them down to the middle of his thighs. And then he’s tugging down mine. He doesn’t even take the time to take my panties off. He just rips them off me roughly, making me cry out in surprise.

“Sarah,” he growls as his hand comes up again and holds my wrists down above my head.

He thrusts into me then, shocking me with the lack of warning.

“Fuck,” he grunts. “Tightest fucking pussy I’ve ever had.”

He drives deep, pulling out almost all the way and then slamming back in again hard, driving so incredibly deep. It’s rough and brutal and every thrust has me screaming from the ferocity of it. This is what he was trying to warn me about.

“Tell me,” he grinds out as he slams back into me once more. “Tell me…to…” he pulls out. “Stop!” he yells, thrusting deep again.

I shake my head from side to side.

Desperation clouds his face and he groans, “Sarah.”

He pulls out, grabs my hips and lifts me up, his every movement jerky and urgent. He carries me over to the workbench. And then he’s sweeping his hand over it, knocking all the clutter onto the floor. It crashes to the floor with thunderous clang after clang, echoing through the garage. He lays me down on it.

His hands grab my thighs roughly, his fingers pinching the soft flesh there. He spreads them wide, holding me open.

And then his mouth is on me

Outside, the air was cool, so I pulled my biker jacket on and flipped up the collar.

“Hey.”

I turned at the sound of Jude’s voice. He was leaning up against the wall, his phone in his hand, his gaze firmly on mine. I could still feel the ghost of his body pressed against mine, and I shivered, sinking deeper into my jacket.

“Hey, yourself,” I threw back.

“Are you leaving?” he asked, clearly disappointed, and I wondered if a little dance was all it took to get him going.

“Yeah,” I said with a shrug. “I’ve had enough excitement for one night.” And enough threats from your ex-girlfriend to last a lifetime.

He pushed off the wall. “You’re going home?”

“Yep.”

“I’ll walk you,” he said.

“No, it’s okay,” I said, backing away. “Stay at the party. It’s only a couple of blocks.”

“A lot can happen in a couple of blocks,” he said, narrowing his eyes. He stepped forward, wavering on his feet.

“Exactly how much have you had to drink since I left you in there?” I asked in amusement.

“I’m not drunk,” he complained. “But you are.”

“Am not,” I lied. Well, I’d reverted to tipsy after Tessa had sobered me up with her bitchy presence. I put my hands on my hips. “I bet you a hundred bucks you can’t walk in a straight line.”

“Only a hundred? I think we can do better than that.”

“You’re a cocky bastard, Jude Atwood.”

“And she swears like an angel,” he slurred.

“I think I should be walking you home,” I retorted.

“Now there’s an idea…”

I flushed scarlet, my entire body beginning to zing. “So you don’t fall in a gutter and wake up with your shame all over TMZ, jerk.”

He waved his hand at me. “I’m still walking you home. The air will sober me up a bit.”

“Ha! So you are drunk.”

He held up his hand and pinched his thumb and forefinger together. “Perhaps a little.”

I shook my head and began walking, Jude falling into step beside me.

“How did you like the party?” he asked.

I could still feel his body pressed against mine, moving to the music. So close to kissing and throwing everything away.

“It was okay,” I muttered.

“You’re a good dancer,” he said, giving me a wink.

I rolled my eyes and glanced away so he couldn’t see the heat in my cheeks. I wasn’t sure it was necessary considering he was a little loose, but it was like a default reaction. You know, like a reflex.

Stopping at an intersection, my mind went back to the moment Tessa shoved her phone in my face and almost bitch-slapped me to the ground. Bloody hell, why should I care what Tessa Donahue thought? Maybe I should care a little if I wanted to have my contract renewed. I hadn’t thought about anything beyond this season of the show. Did I want to come back for another year? Did I want to continue living in this spiral of one-sided lust and heartbreak?

“What are you doing?” Jude asked. He’d gotten to the middle of the road and had come back again. He wound his arm around my waist and guided me across the street.

“Nothing,” I muttered. “I was just thinking.”

“About?”

I shook my head. “Stuff.”

We walked in silence after that, and he didn’t let me go until we stood out the front of my block. Unlocking the door, I was gently nudged to the side, and my heart began to speed up.

“What are you doing?” I asked as he stepped into the tiny lobby.

“I’m walking you to your door,” he declared.

“This is my door.”

He narrowed his eyes and pushed the button for the elevator. “That’s everyone’s door.”

“So specific,” I retorted as the car arrived.

Stepping into the elevator, he sidled up next to me, making the synapses in my brain misfire.

“You don’t have to come all the way,” I said.

Jude grunted, his eyes on the display above the door. His fingers were worrying the hem of his shirt, and it began to dawn on me that he was nervous. I thought he was drunk? Maybe he was a bit of both. Maybe I was misreading the situation.

The elevator arrived at my floor with a ding, and we walked down the hall to my apartment. Unlocking the door, I turned to Jude.

“Safe and sound,” I declared, edging inside.

He narrowed his eyes and swallowed hard. “Yep.”

We stood there staring at each other like idiots, the air feeling thick. As thick as it had when we were dancing earlier.

Then he stepped forward, a hungry look in his eyes, and I stepped back, moving into my apartment.

Everything that happened in the next second was like I was living in someone else’s life. A dream, a fantasy, a parallel universe.

His mouth was on my lips before I realized what was happening, and I stumbled backward until I hit the wall. I gasped in surprise, and his tongue dove greedily against mine, the lingering tang of alcohol mixing with his taste, the taste that said he was Jude.

His hands shoved into my hair, and he held me firm, his entire body pressing hard against mine. His lips were soft, the stubble that always coated his jaw rasped against my skin…and I kissed him back. I gave him everything I’d been holding onto since the day we met. It rushed out of me like a force of nature that couldn’t be tamed. Like a tsunami, a hurricane, a lightning storm, a raging bushfire, the extinction level atomic blast of a gigantic meteor hitting the earth…

I was alive.

Alive and coursing with reckless abandon.

“Lux,” he moaned against my lips.

So wild, so uncontrollable… Everything ached so much I could hardly bear it.

“Jude.”

He moved his lips to my neck, kissing a trail of fire along my skin as his hands stroked the curve of my back. My entire body spoke to his, pushing into his touch, guiding his movements, wanting and needing more with an intensity that had me spinning out of control.

I had no idea… No idea at all.

Excerpt

Ryan

Once we’re in the car, I ask the driver to turn the heater up to blast the chill out and then press the magic button that sets privacy partition up.

“What are you up to?” Liz asks as I pull her into my lap.

God, I missed her—her voice, her smell, her lips … her everything. “I can’t believe I have you in my arms again.”

She brushes her palms along my cheeks. “I was in your arms two days ago.”

“Yeah, ages ago. As soon as we step inside the hotel, I’m going to rip anything and everything from your body,” I murmur, nipping her ear. My cock aches in my jeans.

My hands skim down her back to her firm ass. There’s a mountain of clothes between us, and I’m desperate to get them off.

“Right in the lobby?” she whispers seductively.

“Right in our bedroom, smartass. Then I’ll lay you down on our bed and lick your sweet pussy the way you like.” I pause to lick her wrist and smile when her face flushes. “I can’t wait to be buried inside you.”

“Ryan,” she says, leaning away from me. “I can’t wait for us to … do those things, but we aren’t going home. I have a surprise for you.”

“A surprise?”

“Yeah.” I watch as she flips over the ‘Mr.-Best-Fiancé-Ever’ sign and read the words “Let’s set a date” written in black marker.

My hands stills, and my heart trips heavily against my ribs.

“When you proposed, I thought it was crazy. Things happened so fast, we barely knew each other, and I was cautious. But I knew.”

I suddenly have a hard time swallowing. “You knew?” I parrot.

“When you find the right person, you know right away.” Her eyes caress me. “I was also scared that if I let myself plan a life with you, something bad would happen. After I lost my parents, I lost faith. You helped me find it again. You breathed life into my lungs. You came into my life and have been consuming my body, my mind, my heart ever since. Ryan, you are a gorgeous, kind, intelligent, ambitious, tender, loyal, protective, caring man.” Her voice shakes as she goes on. “I believe we have been given a gift—a rare love. I want to be yours in every way. I want to bear your name, to share your highs and lows, to always be by your side. Let’s move in together and set a wedding date.”

A kind of warmth I never knew existed before swims through my veins, but guilt also simmers beneath my skin. I should have told the truth about her parents sooner. My heart races as I study her, debating on the right words before moving a wayward piece of hair from her cheek. “Liz,” I start.

She must feel me building up to something or notice the tension in my shoulders. Either way, she takes my face in her hands and strokes my cheeks with her thumbs. “I’ve waited for this moment for so long. I wanted to make it memorable. And I want to make you happy, Ryan. Because you make me crazy with happiness, with love, every second of every day. I’m sorry for the reservations about setting a wedding date, I doubt nothing anymore. I only hope you haven’t changed your mind.”

“Of course not. God, Liz. It’s my biggest dream for you to be my wife.”

Her eyes sparkle with happiness, no trace of loneliness or sadness lurking there. She’s so different from when we first met.

I let it go, again. I’ll find another time. All I care about right now is making her happy.

“I’m messy, Ryan. I never put things where they belong. I—”

“You think I don’t know that by now? We’ve been alternating between the hotel and your place for five months, baby.”

“Living together full time is different. You’re a neat freak. You might get sick of me.”

“Not possible, but then again, who’s talking who into moving in?”

“Me. I want it, Ryan. I’m just scared.”

“It’s going to be perfect, Liz. You’ll see.” Leaning in, I kiss her with everything in me. “Let’s go pack your things. I want you moved in as soon as possible.”

Excerpt from THE BALLER

“You ready?” Nick slung his bag over his shoulder and lifted his camera. The reporter in front of us wrapped up his interview and shook hands with Easton.
As I’ll ever be. “Sure.”
I stepped forward and extended my hand. “I’m Delilah Maddox with WMBC Sports News.”
A slow grin spread across Easton’s face. He surprised me by leaning in and kissing me on the cheek. “Pleasure to meet you.”
I wasn’t sure if he was baiting me into an argument—expecting me to lash out at him for kissing me when he’d just shaken the last male reporter’s hand—or if he was trying to use his blatant sexuality to throw me off. Either way, I wasn’t playing his game. I cleared my throat and stood straighter, even though my knees felt a little wobbly.
“Do you mind if I ask you some questions?”
“Why else would you be in here?”
I ignored his sarcasm. He was still smiling at me. Actually, it was more like a smirk, and it made me feel like a toy he was about to play with. “You ready, Nick?” My cameraman finished setting up the lighting, then lifted the camera into position and gave me a hand signal.
“Congratulations on the win today, Brody. How is your knee feeling after your first game back?” I lifted my microphone high, knowing Nick was filming in close.
“I feel . . . ” He nonchalantly reached to the towel wrapped around his waist and tugged at the corner. The towel fell to the ground. “Great. I feel great. And how about you? It’s your first trip into the locker room, isn’t it? Do you like what you see so far?” His lips curled up into a full-blown wicked smile.
Before I could catch myself, my eyes dropped to his naked lower half. Shit. He was dangling in the wind. I totally got distracted by just how low the thing dangled. It was probably a full minute before I responded to his question. A full minute of dead air time. Great. “Yes. Umm . . . the locker room is . . . ummm . . . nice.”
I sounded like a total ditz. On air.
The jackass continued interviewing me. “Is it as big as you thought it would be?”
“Ummm . . . it’s much bigger than I imagined.”
His smile grew even wider.
Ugh.
I needed to get back on track or my first locker room interview would become a laughingstock blooper. Viewers had no idea he was naked from the waist down. “Do you think you were at one hundred percent today?”
His eyebrows jumped. “If you’re referring to today’s game, definitely. I had one hundred percent out there on the field. There’re some other areas where I have a lot of growth potential, but my knee felt one hundred percent today.”
His pale green eyes darkened, and I watched his long lashes lower. I followed his line of sight, and suddenly I was staring at his naked package. Again. Damn it. My eyes darted back up, but I felt my cheeks heating. I had to end this, or I was going to be beet red on air.
“Well, welcome back. And congratulations on today’s win.”
I waited until Nick lowered his camera and turned off the light. Then I looked right at Brody Easton’s smug face. “You’re an asshole, you know that?”
His eyes sparkled. “I do.”
I heard the chuckles and high fives at my back as I stormed out of the locker room.

Blurb

The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.
It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.
The famed quarterback decided to bare all.
And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.
No. The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question. On camera.
The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby—screwing with me.
When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me.
But I don’t date players.
And it’s not because I’m one of the few women working in the world of professional football.
I’d date an athlete.
It’s the other kind of player I don’t date.
You know the type. Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid.

Brody Easton was the ultimate player.
Every woman wanted to be the one to change him.
But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for.
Turned out, I was that girl.
Simple right?
Let’s face it. It never is.
There’s a story between once upon a time and happily ever after…
And this one is ours.

High school student Malakai Thomas, star wide receiver of the varsity team, collides with band member Lily Morgan on his way to football practice. As days go by, Malakai cannot get the petite clarinetist out of his head.

Lily Morgan can feel everyone’s emotions. She loses her ability to shield herself against them the day Malakai runs into her. Now she must try to maintain her sanity in the emotional jungle that is high school, as well as deal with her growing feelings for Malakai.

Can Malakai get over the social stigma and his own internal struggle to be with Lily? Is Lily’s secret too big to accept, even for him?

#1 – LILY

“I wonder what would happen if you lost your ability to shield.”

That simple question from Lily’s best friend, Sandra, almost got them killed. As Lily Morgan drove them to school for their band practice in her Mini Cooper, it took all of her limited driving skills to keep them on the narrow suburban road and not in the ditch.

“Let’s not ever mention this again!” Lily’s heart raced at the thought of it.

Sandra Jones was the best friend anybody could dream of. She was also everything Lily was not. She was outgoing, tall, and beautiful with her long, straight blond hair and blue eyes. She always wore the nicest outfits, and guys regularly asked her out on dates. She could have been part of the popular crowd had she wanted to, but she was perfectly content being in the marching band, just like Lily.

Sandra and her family, in addition to Lily’s uncle, Charlie, were the only people alive who knew what Lily could do; she had the ability to feel the emotions of the people around her. The only way for her to function and have a close to normal life was to build mental shields, which prevented the barrage of emotions from continuously assaulting her. Sandra knew how important shielding was to Lily, particularly in an emotion-infested place like high school.

“Just saying. I mean, you’ve been giving me the silent treatment since we left home. I had to find a way to make you talk.”

“Well, that’s not a good subject on a good day.”

“Then, what’s eating you?”

“My mother, again.”

“I don’t understand. Why don’t you take Charlie’s offer and move in with him?”

“It’s my house, Sandra. If anything, she should be the one moving out.”

“Not going to happen, not until the courts kick her out. You know that better than I do. She’s not going anywhere.”

Her friend was right, unfortunately.

“Can we move on to something else?”

“What did she want this time?” Sandra asked instead. “Another party to introduce you to your future husband?”

Lily nodded. She could easily imagine Sandra rolling her eyes, and if she hadn’t been driving, she was sure she would have seen her do exactly that.

“I don’t get it,” Sandra continued. “She’s not even your real mother.”

“I don’t get it either. Why does she keep throwing me at those guys?”

“Beats me,” Sandra said. “Did you say no?”

Lily remained quiet. She never said no. She still held the hope that if she did exactly what her mother requested, maybe one day she would approve of her.

Hope definitely made people stupid.

“When will you, Lily?” Sandra asked, turning toward her. “You deserve better than this.”

Lily sighed. She had tried to explain it numerous times before, but Sandra never understood. After all, Sandra’s mother loved her and was always so proud of her.

“David said football practice starts today,” Sandra said, changing the subject.

Lily felt her best friend’s eagerness at sharing the news, and she knew what was coming next.

“Malakai will be there.”

Ever since she had admitted to Sandra that she liked the star wide receiver over a year ago, Sandra brought him up every chance she had.

“Why don’t we talk about your love life for a change?” Lily suggested.

“Oh, no, we’re so not. Yours is so much more fun.”

It was Lily’s turn to roll her eyes. “So, what else did David say?”

“They should begin practice around nine this morning.”

“They have it so much easier than we do,” Lily said, turning onto the access road that led behind the school.

“You got that one right. If they practiced half as much as we did, they would wear paths in the football field.”

“That’s probably why we practice on hot, steamy asphalt,” Lily said as they arrived in the parking area.

“It sucks, really. Why don’t we get to practice their amount of hours and they, ours?”

“Because what we do is more complicated?” Lily suggested with a smile.

Sandra shrugged and glanced out the window.

“Look at it on the bright side.”

“There is one?” Sandra asked, irony coating her tone.

“No!”

They were both laughing when Lily pulled into her usual parking spot.

He reached down and grabbed her by the back of the hair and pulled her head away from his family jewels. He looked down at her with his bottom lip hanging off his face like it was not his to control and with a winded breath said, “You are one sexy bitch, Sara.”

She licked her lips as she was held in place by his strong hands on her hair and he threw his head back as if he couldn’t take it any longer. Sara rose up to her knees and slid the massive cock into her mouth, first taking in just the head and working her way about half-way down the shaft. There was a feeling inside of her that wanted to be able to swallow his cock whole, but it was too large. She worked his member with her mouth, sliding it up and down and sucking hard as she came up each time. She flicked her tongue over the head of his cock while it was still in her mouth and even she was wondering what had gotten into her. She felt him start to swell and knew he was getting close, so she stopped and stood in front of him. You could see the pain in his eyes as he tried to hold back his orgasm.
“Can you come twice?” She wasn’t about to throw this moment away for a hummer.

“For you anything, baby,” he moaned, and with that she returned to her knees and took him deep in her throat. The thought of taking him inside her mouth was making her work even harder to feel as though she deserved the load he was about to deliver.

She worked her way down his cock until he was completely inside her. She felt him swell and then release and thought about that feeling she experienced in the tub. The idea that she was able to bring someone to this point was so satisfying to her, she eagerly awaited her reward. She began taking him into her mouth faster, sucking the tip of his cock upon every release. His cock begun to throb and she knew she was about to be rewarded, but wanted him to watch. She pulled her mouth off his cock and left her open lips at the tip. As he exploded she caught some of the hot jizz in her mouth and some on her chin. She let him drip from her chin to her breasts and enjoyed the salty taste he left in her mouth.

Ryder was breathing heavy and had his eyes locked on Sara. “Wow,” he whispered, as if completely surprised by her abilities, and honestly, Sara was completely surprised by everything, her behavior, her abilities and her eagerness.

“You enjoy that?”

“Baby, I’ll cum all night if you want me to. That was incredible” Ryder sounded as eager as Sara now, like a pair of high school kids – except they knew what they were doing.

Love & Lust… and the thin line in between…

New series, but not new to writing, Jamie Black brings hot sizzling stories with hard core action to print. Be prepared to fall in love with characters or hate ’em, you just never know.
