Jack “Rampage” Caldwell is the first MMA fighter I created for the Redemption series, and even when I first brought this Southern gentleman to life, I knew he had a secret. But Penny has a dark secret, too. After Jack discovers what she hides from the world, he makes her promise to come to him if she needs him. But trust doesn’t come easily for Penny. She breaks her promise, never expecting that Jack will find out. But, of course, he does…and crossing a sadist is never a good idea!

“I’ll call you back. Jack is here.”

Cora sucks in a sharp breath. “I’ll see you at class tonight. I can hardly wait to hear all about it.”

I end the call and swallow past the lump in my throat. It’s only been three days, and yet it feels like I haven’t seen Jack in forever. He’s wearing a white T-shirt that clings to his taut, muscle-ridged abdomen, and worn jeans that ride low on his narrow hips.

“What are you doing here?” I ask, trying to keep my gaze above his belt.

He pins me with a direct stare, his eyes fierce and hard. I feel like he’s trying to see into my soul, but my heart is pounding so hard I’m not sure enough oxygen is getting to my brain to make any sense of what’s going on.

“Jack?”

His gaze rakes over my body, lingering on my thighs as if he can see beneath my skirt. He tenses, and his eyes narrow. If I didn’t know X-ray vision was impossible, I would swear he knows I broke my promise.

“Are you alone?”

“Yes.” My pulse kicks up a notch. “Everyone’s out for the rest of the afternoon.”

He takes a step toward me, and the hair on the back of my neck stands on end.

“Lock the door.”

A thrill of fear shoots through me, and sweat beads on my forehead. What if he knows? Or suspects? What will he do?

“Now.” His deep, commanding Dom voice ripples through me, fanning the flames of my desire. Do I trust Jack enough to lock myself in the office with him, especially when I know what is coming? Do I trust myself?

I brush past him and lock the front door.

“Your office,” he snaps after I return.

I jump at his sharp tone and scramble out of his way as he brushes past me and through my office door, a lithe and powerful animal herding its prey.

“What’s going on?”

“Stand in front of the desk.” He gestures to the big oak desk Amanda and I refinished when we first moved into the building.

Puzzled, I do as he asks, my breath catching in my throat when he closes and locks the door behind him.

“Jack?”

He gives me his back as he draws the curtains at the side of my office. “Don’t move.”

A sting of disappointment hits me in the chest. Has he come to reject me all over again? Does he want to make sure I understand there is nothing between us? It shouldn’t bother me because I got the message the other night. I’m nothing. Nothing special. Nothing extraordinary. Not worth his time, especially since he’s on the cusp of fame. I’m just his pal. Plain old quirky Pen. But he doesn’t have to be so cold.

Worthless, no-good piece of shit.

No. No. No. My fingers tighten on the lip of the desk. I haven’t even started to heal from last night. I don’t need the past intruding on the present.

Jack leans against the door across from me, thick arms folded over his massive chest.

“Lift your skirt.”

Shock steals my breath away, and all I can do is stare.

“What?”

“You heard me. Lift your skirt. Now.”

Bang,  Bang. Bang. My heart thuds frantically against my ribs. Adrenaline pounds through my veins, and I feel a rush of heat between my legs. He knows. I can see it in his eyes, hear it in his voice…

“Why?” I whisper, stalling. And why is this turning me on?

“You know why,” he snaps. “You didn’t keep your promise.”

I smooth my hands over my cream skirt, silky underneath with a cotton macramé overlay, pressing it tight against my thighs. “It doesn’t matter if I kept it or not. We’re not in the club. There’s nothing between us. You made that clear the other night.”

“I fucked up the other night.” He shifts his stance. “I’m not good for you, Pen. You need to be with someone normal. A nice guy who’s going to treat you right and doesn’t want to hurt you.”

My hand fists on my thigh. “I don’t like nice guys. They don’t understand me. They’re too gentle. My life is about pain. Emotional and physical pain. It’s what I know, what I understand, what I need.”

“So you hurt yourself?”

“I didn’t—”

He cuts me off with a scowl. “Don’t lie to me.” He pauses, and his voice takes on a deeper, cutting edge. “Show me.”

My mouth goes dry at his abrupt command, and I fiddle with the edge of my skirt, at once indignant that he would try to boss me around and aroused that he did.

“What if I did?” I say defiantly. “There’s nothing you can do about it.”

His corded throat tightens when he swallows, and he fixes me with a level stare. “I’ll give you what you need.”

All the air leaves my lungs in a rush, and I feel a disconcerting wetness between my thighs. “You wouldn’t dare. I’m at work.”

“Try me.”

Electricity sparks in the air between us, and a curious mix of fear and arousal courses through my veins. Stiffening my spine, I curl my fingers under the edge of my skirt and draw it slowly, painfully slowly up my thighs. Jack stills. His eyes flick down and then back up again. He licks his lips, and his eyes darken.

I have awakened the beast.

BLOG TOUR ~ Once Should Be Enough by Nikky Kaye

Are friends with benefits worth the cost?

My cocky friend Will doesn’t believe that I’m frigid, but what does he know? His promises might make me shiver but it doesn’t mean he can give me a happy. He’s so confident he’s betting me money on it, and a thousand bucks is a lot of money to a poor college student.

Once should be enough to taunt him with “I told you so,” right?

But I didn’t know he meant trying everything once…

This super hot 25,000-word standalone new adult romance novella has adult language and themes, and a happy ending (several, actually).

A tremor went through me at the feel of his other hand higher up on my back, tracing the line of my spine.

“—a room!”

A nearby shout of laughter burst into my brain, bringing me back to reality. And that reality was that I was, once again, ready to climb Will like a tree in a public place. My face heated. Was I a closet exhibitionist?

“What do you think?” he asked, looking down at me. His eyes were almost black in the dim light of the bar, his mouth swollen from, well, me. I licked my lips.

Our lower halves were molded together as his palm slid further around my ass, to the damp little crease where my thigh started. I moaned. If he just stretched his fingers a little, he could touch—

“Think?” He wanted me to think? His wandering hands were this close to being the only thing holding me upright.

He nodded. “I know; it’s hard right now.”

“Uh huh.”

“Should we?”

“Should we what?”

His lips curved up. “Get a room.”

My earlier nervousness bubbled up again. As I started to look at the floor again—I think I had memorized the tile pattern by now—he broke his hands off my backside and tipped my chin up.

“Hey. We will do whatever you want,” he assured me.

And I believed that he meant it, that he would willingly go home with blue balls from hell if I stopped this. But if he was feeling anything like I was, we were standing at the top of the stairs with that Slinky again. I wanted—no, needed—him to push me over. He was just waiting for the word from me. Or maybe he wanted me to push him over this time.

“What do you want to do?” I asked him.

Yes, I was being passive-aggressive. I wanted to give him an out. Will may be an admitted pervert, but he was also a gentleman. He would never…

“I already told you,” he said. “I want to fuck you, however and wherever you want. Whenever, too, but now is good for me.”

“Here?” I squeaked.

“No. I need you in private.” He leaned close to my ear, letting out a dark chuckle. “I want to do things to you that are illegal in many states, and definitely against the health code, even in this place.”

If he could devour me whole with just his gaze, he would. I’d never felt so overwhelmed by just someone looking at me—into me—like my skin was made of glass. His breath was coming as short and fast as mine, as we both considered what those secret, wicked things would be.

“But I will wait, if it’s not tonight. Fuck, I’ll even take you out first. But I’m not waiting for the third date or anything like that,” he warned. “I’ve already gotten you out of your underwear.”

“I wasn’t wearing any.”

“Alora Kate has a very talented writing style, that is not only emotionally captivating, but highly realistic with a dark edge. I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough trying to find out Ashton’s haunting story.” ~ Jennifer, The Power of Three Readers

“Absolutely hands down the best book I’ve read in a long time. Alora Kate blew me away with this heartfelt story of survival.” ~ Marnie Warren

“When I was done reading it, I sat and cried my eyes out. It hit home on many levels for me. The first book that made me feel like this was Danielle Steele’s Malice. Both have incredible characters who show you their inner workings and how to grow and change the course of your life for the better. This is a truly incredible book, and Alora’s best book to date.” ~ Shani, The Chronicles of an Abibliophobiac

Synopsis:

Lincoln:

Catching sight of my neighbor’s ass in the hallway the day I moved in more than piqued my interest. It’s not just the body that has my attention. She’s mysterious, hiding behind sunglasses that cover most of her face. I ask her name and try to get her to talk on the rare occasions I see her in the hallway, but every time she ignores me and turns away. I need to know more about this woman, I can’t get her out of my head. Do I keep trying? Do I keep asking her name?

Ashton:

I’m barely holding on. I’m always on the edge, even after all these years. I live every day the same and I can’t change who I am no matter how much I try. My new neighbor won’t give up asking my name and trying to make conversation with me. If he knew me he wouldn’t keep trying. I’m a lost cause.

Excerpt:

I sucked in a breath. “Are you trying to kill me?”
“A little dramatic don’t you think, Ashton.” She stood up and smoothed out her clothes.
Suzanne was tall, skinny, and blonde and sometimes she wore glasses. Other than that, I don’t pay attention to people or the unique details they all have. They all blend into categories, and I can’t see past that. They are short or tall, fat or skinny, and the only other thing I notice is usually their hair color. And I guess glasses. Sometimes those stick out to me.
My world is boring.
Bland.
Dull and lifeless.
Sometimes the beating of my heart is the only thing that reminds me that I’m alive.
“I’m scared, Suzanne.”
I’m always so fucking scared.
“Anxiety can do that to you.”

Fifteen Nights
by Zoe Lee

Publication Date: January 26th, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

An all new STANDALONE novel from Zoe Lee is now LIVE!!

zoe-fifteen-nights-ebook-copy

The deeper they look, the harder they fall.

Jamie Houston was supposed to just be Leda Riveau’s Thursday night (and maybe Friday morning) fun.

Leda has awesome brothers, friends who are as allergic to emotions as she is, and a great job. She’s back in her hometown, Maybelle County, after a romantic and professional disaster three years ago in Nashville. It might not be what she planned when she was a teenager, but it’s perfect.

Or, well, it’s almost perfect. Because Leda is still angry and bitter about Nashville, and everyone knows it. She hates romance and doesn’t do relationships, and her younger brother’s trying to get her to be nicer. But she’s not nice. She even has her own hashtag: #ledagoesnuclear.

Then she sees Jamie again, when he’s between serious girlfriends, and discovers that the chemistry she’s always suspected is right there, ready to explode if she lets it.

Jamie is a serial monogamist who’s always liked Leda, but the timing’s never been right. After he sees her while they’re both single for the first time since high school, he knows he wants to be with her. Everybody knows she doesn’t date and doesn’t get serious, but he’s always serious, especially because he has a three-year-old son and a three-hour commute to get from work to Leda.

What starts out as a casual Thursday night arrangement gets messy when Leda and Jamie also have interfering friends, sad brothers, a pushy mom, an amazing son, and chemistry so intense it’s scary.

How does a man who needs forever win a woman who hates romance?

Excerpt:

I stalk-strolled towards her, my patience stretched paper-thin by desire.

I crowded close, so tall and wide that she couldn’t see anything else but me, and my hand cupped her waist. She stumbled against the wall, her feet wide apart to keep her balanced.

“You’re so damn tall,”I murmured. Still a few inches shorter than I was in her heels, she angled her head back, her hair scraping the textured wallpaper, to meet my eyes again. My thumb stroked in arcs over her hips and I saw her try to suppress a shiver. “You must be six-three in those heels. Usually I can’t look a woman in the eye unless we’re lying down.

”Her eyes flashed fire and she asked belligerently, “Are you going to keep me here till midnight?”

I ran my fingertips down her earlobes and chandelier earrings, not bothering to confirm what was obvious. I knew she didn’t want to go anywhere either. If Leda Riveau didn’t want to be somewhere, she sure as hell would’ve told me so and moved.

When the crowd screamed and chorused “Happy New Year,”I half-smiled.

My face dipped until the tips of our noses grazed together, testing the boundaries, and when she only parted her red lips, I laid mine against them for the first time.

Light flickered behind my closed eyelids as her mouth softened a fraction.

But I didn’t want her soft, I wanted her fierce and dynamic, so I caught her around the waist. My voice dropped in volume and register while I demanded, “Kiss me harder, Leda.”

Her arms wound around me and her nails dug into my neck, scratching hard as she swooped in and bit at my bottom lip before her nimble tongue pushed into my mouth.

I couldn’t have stopped the heartfelt moan that escaped into the air between our open lips.

But at the noise, she pulled back sharply and looked at me, brows creasing. I didn’t know what had made Dunk say what he had, but I knew plenty of gossip about everyone in Maybelle, and I’d never heard so much as a word about her sleeping around.

I wanted to reassure her, but I knew that the usual platitudes about how she was beautiful and Dunk was a fucking idiot wouldn’t work because they’d make her feel too vulnerable. My best shot was probably self-deprecation, to shift the attention to my shit and away from her.

So I hooked her hair behind her ears, smoothing the disarray I’d caused.

“Do you know how many women run from this?”I pointed at my eyes. “I always have to hide it. I haven’t been able to do that with you tonight, and all you’ve done is stare right back.”

“I, uh, like it. It makes me feel special,”she practically stammered. “And that’s incredibly…”She swallowed, her eyes dipping down to my mouth again. “…tempting.”

My gaze sharpened with desire. “I would like to make love with you.”

She jabbed a finger in my chest. “You cannot call it that,”she ordered. “No bullshit about how you were moon-eyed over me half our lives ago when we didn’t know shit about shit.”

I grabbed her finger and reeled her in.

“You can stare at me all you want,”she half-babbled, “but this is just good chemistry.”

I didn’t want this life.

But sometimes you’re forced to make the best of the crappy hand you’ve been dealt. I wanted to teach my daughter that. No matter what happens you face your problems head-on.

Never cower. Never give up.

Then someone took her and I had to put my faith in a system that had failed me, and my hope in a man I didn’t know.

Serve. Honor. Protect, are the only things I’ve ever cared about until her case was dropped on my desk. As we searched for her missing daughter, the last woman I thought I’d fall in love with became my reason for living.

Then the world came crashing down around us.

One secret would change everything, but I had one more hand to be dealt. And if I played my cards right, maybe, just maybe we’d get our piece of heaven.

Chapter Eleven

Marissa

The bells over the door ring every single time someone walks in. I’ve been on edge ever since I got in this morning. Lucky for me it’s been non-stop people coming in, so my mind hasn’t been able to wander to Lori.

Now that it has been quiet and I’m filling the salt and pepper shakers, my mind wanders. It wanders to my baby girl, who is somewhere out there begging to come home. The sound of her voice plays in my head on repeat. My hands start to shake, so I close my eyes and sit down on a chair before my knees buckle.

I blink away the tears threatening to fall over, my heart starting to beat so fast I hear the echoes in my ears. A plate of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and gravy is shoved in front of me. Phyllis’s eyes greet me when I look up.

“Eat that and then go home. You are done for the day. You’ve been here for fourteen hours.”
I look over at the clock hanging behind the counter that reads 8 p.m., realizing she’s right.

“I’m just going to finish filling the shakers then I’ll take off.” I know she’s about to argue with me when the bell over the door rings again, making us both look up.

His eyes find me right away. My heart that was starting to calm down is now speeding up. I focus on my meal, cutting a piece of meatloaf and dipping it in the gravy before popping it into my mouth. I try to ignore the heat of his stare, try to think of anything but him and that naked woman from last night. His girlfriend. I was so stupid to think that he would actually want me. I’m a used up stripper whose daughter ran away from home. I’m the opposite of what he wants or needs.

The chair in front of me is filled with his big frame. The scent of his aftershave, of cologne lingers around us. Musky, rich, and woodsy. It’s the smell that has seeped its way into my memory along with the way his lips felt on mine. The way that I just fit, like I was made for him. I blink away the memory, looking up at him.

“All the seats in this place are open and you sit in front of me?” I ask him before scooping up more food. I didn’t notice how hungry I was till I started eating.

“You didn’t text me back.” His voice is hard, his muscles tight, his jaw ticking.

I take out my phone. “Oh, I put the do not disturb on under your name. Maybe that’s why.”

My phone is snapped out of my hand in a blink of an eye. “What the fuck?” I see him touching the screen angrily and turning it off.

“You know you’re doing that for nothing since I can turn it on again?” I finish off my whole plate, making my stomach hurt since it’s the first thing I’ve eaten since last night.

“What if I had information on Lori?” Bulls-eye, hit straight through my heart. He must see the color drain from my face as I realize that I fucked up. I’m not going to admit it to him, though.

“I don’t have Jackson’s number blocked, and he would have called me.” I shrug my shoulders, picking up my plate to bring it to the gray bussing bin.

Walking over, I wipe down the table right when Phyllis comes out from the kitchen.
“There you are! I have your order ready. It’s being boxed up. Did you want dessert with that?”

His eyes never leave mine. “No, that’s okay. Thanks, Phyllis.”

I grab my phone from him, putting it in the front pocket of my waitress pouch. “I’m taking off. My feet are killing me. See you tomorrow, Phyllis.”

I don’t wait for her to say anything to me before I walk out the door to my car. Turning it on, I drive home, determined not to give Mick another minute of my thoughts. Just one problem with that plan, though. No one mentioned to my head that I wasn’t thinking about him because his eyes flash in my mind, the hard lines around them. The sorrow that is buried there, the sadness that he thinks no one sees but is there, if you look long enough.

I make my way into my apartment, taking my shoes off my throbbing feet at the door.

Walking into the kitchen, I take out the tips from my pocket and count them out. Three hundred and seventeen dollars. Two hundred of that is going to that damn debt that I’m still paying off. I can’t fucking wait till it’s over. I walk over to Lori’s room like I do every single night, turning on the light to see if maybe something has been misplaced or moved.

I’ve put scotch tape on the drawers to alert me if they’ve been opened, but it’s still intact. I’ve labeled her clothes hanging in the closet by number, and I count them, seeing that none have been taken either.

The bed is exactly how she left it. I crawl into her bed and grab her pillow, breathing in her scent. Tears run down my face, seeping into the pillow. This has become my nightly routine. I sleep here so I’m closer to her. I lie in this bed, talking to her. Telling her about my day, praying that she calls me again. I tell her stories about when she was small, about the day they placed her in my arms. The tears never stop. It’s like an endless river.

The soft knock at the door has me raising my head. Walking slowly to the door, I look through the peephole and see that Mick is in the hallway. His hands are braced against the doorframe, his head hanging down.

I place my forehead on the door, take a deep breath in, and open the door. His eyes land right on mine. The tears continue to roll down my cheeks, right off my chin on their way to the floor. He brings his thumb up to my chin, catching them.
“Marissa,” he whispers, and it’s all I can do before I collapse into his arms, sobbing. Begging. Pleading with him to bring her back to me.

He picks me up and carries me inside. Sitting on the couch with me curled into a ball in his lap, my tears soak his shirt. I’m so exhausted from the fear, stress, and worry. I’m just too tired to move.

“I’m a good mom,” I whisper to him. “I was tough on her only because I wanted better for her. Wanted her out of this life. Wanted her to be something.” My hand lies on his chest, the beat of his heart pounding against my palm.

“I know, baby, I know.”
I don’t say anything more. I just continue to soak up the feeling of his heart beating as it calms me. My eyes droop, and the exhaustion drags me under.

I don’t move from this position all night. I wake the next morning with the same heart beating against my hand.

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…

Logan

Her ankle turns, and Kass starts to fall. One swift move, and I scoop her up, into my arms.

“Oh!” she cries, gripping my biceps.

Her soft body is pressed against me, and her face is right at my chin. Her breath comes in quick pants, causing her breasts to rise and fall just beneath the thin material of her dress. With her sweater pushed back, I can see she’s not wearing a bra, and all the lust I’ve been fighting shoots straight to my cock.

I know she feels it. Her lids lower, and her eyes are trained on my mouth. Her lips part, and I can just see the tips of her white teeth when she speaks, low and breathless. “Thank you.”

Desire overrules my brain, and I don’t stop myself. I pull her to me, covering her mouth with mine. It’s not a gentle kiss. It’s rough and punishing. It’s all the anger and the hurt and the worry she’s put me through these last days.

She meets me with equal strength. Her mouth moves with mine, and she tastes like mint and cool water. A little noise aches from her throat and fuck me, my dick gets harder. She’s soft in my arms, and my stomach fills with warmth, desire, possession.

How can I still want her so badly? She used me.

Breaking our lips apart, I look up at the sky. It’s thick with grey, swirling clouds. It mirrors the storm in my chest.

Kass’s forehead drops to my neck. She’s panting, and I feel her beaded nipples against my chest. I want to pull them into my mouth and suck them until she moans. I want to lower my pants and lift her skirt. I want to shove her panties aside and fuck her right here on this beach. I want it to be hard and angry. I want her begging me to forgive her, begging me for more.

I can see the whole thing, and it takes all my willpower to step back.

“I’m sorry.” I hold her arms until I’m sure she has her balance, until I’m back in control. “I’ll escort you to the house.”

“Yes.” Her voice is breathless.

EXCERPT

After getting ready for bed—wearing pajama pants I had to dig out of the back of my closet since I usually slept naked—I decided to look in on her and make sure she was comfortable and had everything she needed.
I knocked on the closed door and waited, then tried again. When I still heard nothing I assumed she was asleep, but a small part of me was worried that she might have slipped and fallen in the bath or been a victim of some other calamity. Flimsy excuse.
Quietly, I turned the knob on the door and pushed it open. Her light was still on and a hasty glance at her bed showed it was empty.
“Macy?” I called, walking fully into the room. The bathroom light was on and the door was wide open, so I padded over to it. Just as I reached the entrance, I froze in mid-stride. Every nerve in my body coiled tight, unable to move.
Except my cock which was rapidly growing and hardening.
Macy was just slipping my shirt over her head and before it fell, I got a glimpse of all that was underneath. High, rounded breasts that would fit so well in my hands, pink nipples that made my mouth water. A slender torso, nipped in waist, and a belly button that had my tongue itching to lick around it. Her hips flared out just enough to be perfect for a tight grip while she was thoroughly fucked from behind. Toned, sexy legs, and my jaw practically dropped to the ground at the sight of her smooth, bare pussy.

Son of a fucking bitch! I mentally screamed at the fucking garment that was hiding all that perfection.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ – Once Should be Enough by Nikky Kaye

Are friends with benefits worth the cost?

My cocky friend Will doesn’t believe that I’m frigid, but what does he know? His promises might make me shiver but it doesn’t mean he can give me a happy. He’s so confident he’s betting me money on it, and a thousand bucks is a lot of money to a poor college student.

Once should be enough to taunt him with “I told you so,” right?

But I didn’t know he meant trying everything once…

This super hot 25,000-word standalone new adult romance novella has adult language and themes, and a happy ending (several, actually).

“Let me ask you something,” he said, squinting his eyes at me. I nodded hesitantly, and his hands splayed out further on my face. His thumbs drew together to almost touch under my chin, and his pinky fingers grazed my earlobes, sending a ripple down my spine. It was like he was studying the shape of my jaw, the line of my throat and the curve of my cheekbones.
“Have you ever been aroused?”
My eyes widened. “Uh, I suppose so? I’m not a virgin,” I reminded him. Technically.
He scowled. “You can have sex without being aroused, though it’s sure as fuck a bad idea. And you can most definitely be aroused without having sex.”
I opened my mouth to say something then closed it, to which he raised an eyebrow.
“Do you want me to list the clinical symptoms?”
No, I didn’t. His hands trailed down my neck, the pads of his thumbs coming to rest in the hollow at the base of my throat. Hopefully he couldn’t feel my heart racing.
“Maybe I’m asexual,” I suggested, a lump forming in the back of my throat. “I mean, I’ve never even gone to a bar and thought someone was hot.” I felt like such a freak. “Aren’t girls my age supposed to get drunk and want to get laid?”
He tilted his head one way, then the other, examining me. “It’s possible,” he granted. “But I doubt it. You’re getting turned on right now.”
“No…”
“Arousal is a physical reaction to stimulus, as well as a mental one.” While he spoke, his thumbs traced my collarbone on either side, back and forth, like he was rubbing a lucky penny in his pocket. “It’s easier to become aroused by someone you feel comfortable with already,” he informed me as I let out a little hum.
Then he must be wrong, I thought. I was feeling distinctly uncomfortable right now, like a cat whose fur was being rubbed the wrong way.
Bending his head towards me, he took me by surprise with a soft kiss to the corner of my mouth.
“What are you doing?” Oh god.
He leaned in again to kiss the other side of my mouth, but I was frozen in place.
“Testing your theory,” he said against my lips.

Blurb

Triggerman, Inc., Book 1

Three assassins and a baby?
How many assassins does it take to change a diaper?
Three assassins have met their match and it wears diapers.

Noel “Ice” Cavanaugh’s method is foolproof. Get in, do the job, get out, melt away without a trace. Chill out until his next mark is assigned. Neat. Tidy. No mistakes.

This time, though, something isn’t right. Two somethings. First a random attack that feels not-so-random. Then he discovers someone’s left a baby on his doorstep with a note claiming it’s his. And the sexy neighbor who found the boy first has too many questions in her eyes to ignore.

When her handsome, mysterious neighbor suddenly asks her out on a date, Adeline Rose has suspicions he’s fishing for “help” with his bundle of joy? By date’s end, she’s convinced NOel’s just as distant as he seems until a scorching goodnight kiss ends with sex against the nearest wall, the heat between them burning away all thoughts of careful.

Now Noel has more than one problem on his hands. Splitting baby duty between three badass assassins, figuring out how to fit more time with Addy into his no-room-for-error schedule and keeping both of them safe from the danger he’s increasingly sure has followed him home.

Warning: Beware a killer with a heart of gold, a baby who needs constant changing, and unrequited love that’s actually quite requited.

He sighed. “I would have talked to you sooner but I’ve had my hands full. I’d like to go out again.”

She hugged Noel Jr.—as she liked to think of him—tighter. He grabbed her hair and cooed, no longer upset while she rocked him against her. “By go out, you mean…?”

To her delight, Noel flushed and shoved his hands in his pockets. He wore a dark green sweater and jeans that looked as if they’d been pressed. She had never, in the two years she’d known him, seen him in anything resembling slovenly attire.

“I mean you and I could go out to dinner again or see a movie. Maybe take a hike.”

“Oh.” She was disappointed and shouldn’t have been. But God, just thinking about how amazing he’d been woke her ovaries from their hibernation.

“I mean, sure, we could sex it up in a bed next time, but I thought you’d like to get to know me better first. You know, so that you feel better about being with such a cold, unemotional man,” he delivered in a remote voice.

“Ha ha.” At least, she thought he was joking.

The gleam in his dark brown eyes and slight quirk of his lips showed he was. “Or are you a fan of wall sex instead?”

She covered the baby’s ears. “Shh. He’s too little for this talk.”

Noel snorted. “Trust me, that kid’s no innocent. He’s shoved all sorts of things into his mouth all day. Including one of my favorite silk ties. He’s been pooping and crying all day long.”

For all Noel’s harsh words, he stroked the baby’s head with a tenderness that should have surprised her but didn’t. She noticed the calluses on his fingers, in particular on his middle and forefinger and thumb. From lifting weights, maybe?

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I’ve been a reader and fan of Marie Harte’s books for a long time now and I was delighted when the lady herself announced another new series was being released…

Contract Signed was a great start to the Triggerman, Inc. series!
3 badass assassins, an unexpected baby, a sexy neighbour, intrigue, mystery, action and secret & spies, along with a series of things that keep getting in the way of our main couple getting it together all lead to a really great, engaging story!

Noel Cavanaugh was nothing like Adeline Rose expected – not that she knew much about her sexy neighbour, even though she’s been lusting over him for the last couple of years.
Noel comes across as cold and uninterested whenever Addy has come into contact with him in the past… turns out there’s more to the man than meets the eye. He had been keeping tabs on his nosey little neighbour for a while and was more interested in her than she’s ever imagine! I really liked him. He was protective of Addy, as well as the baby (whether it’s his or not) and would do anything to keep her safe.

Addy was funny and likable. Outgoing and openly friendly, she was the complete opposite of the well named ‘Ice’, but they were great together!

Add in Jolene, who is Addy’s best friend, and Deacon and Hammer, who are 2 assosiates/friends of Noel, and you have some craziness and laugh out loud moments as well as a nice introduction to the second book in this series!

There was the expected elements of humour, heat and romance that I’ve come to expect (and look forward to) in Marie’s books. I loved this read and I can’t wait to find out what happens next with the sexy assassins….

I’ve giving Contract Signed 5 well deserved stars.

Blurb:

Love can be as sweet as honey, or it can sting like a bee.

Bo Smith knows that if you go looking for honey, you get stung, so he has his life just how he wants it. No hassles, no complications, and no heartache. As the handsome high school athletics coach, he would be the pick of the small town he grew up in…if he was into commitment, or dating…or even calling back. But he has sworn off anything resembling a future and his mind isn’t going to change.

Then his eyes lock on the new girl in town…She’s beautiful, intelligent, and full of surprises. Just the kind of complication he has been avoiding.

Sophia Brown is looking for the sweet simple life. She has it all planned out. Getting used to life alone isn’t easy, but she has her garden, her bees, and her dog Triton to tend to. It’s the fresh start she’s been dreaming of, surrounded by nothing but open fields to stare at all day.

Nothing at all…unless you count the high school football team and their distractingly handsome coach, practicing right across the street.

But when sparks fly, Bo must choose between the sting of his past or the sweetness of the future.

He may just find that honey tastes good on everything.

EXCERPT:

“No, no, no! Do not do this. Come on Triton,” I beg as I push him by his rear out the front door.He grunts, stopping to lie down on the doormat panting. Looking up at me with his big caramel eyes, he pleads: ‘Help me mama.’

I huff and blow my bangs out of my eyes. Darn dog plays me like a fiddle. “Please Triton, mama will give you a cookie.” I step in front of him, bracing my legs, and tug on his leash. “Baby come on, let’s go bye bye’s,” I plead with him.

His response is a groan and then he flops down on his side.

“Ugh…don’t do this now!” I growl down at him with my hands fisted on my hips.

He wags his tail twice and paws at the air before me.

“King Triton, you get up right now! You are a bad boy.” I use my stern voice with him.

He wags his tail and then lets out a whimper.

I furrow my brows and get down on my knees, bending over him, “Come on baby, the doctor is going to fix you right up,” I whisper as I scratch his face.

He responds with a grunt and licks my face, “Lord your breath stinks. What the hell did you eat today?” If only he could answer, my life would be so much easier right now.

I push myself up off the floor and stand on my porch looking around. Even with Triton being a pain in the ass, the beauty of my new neighborhood is breathtaking. Surrounded by mountains and wildlife, it’s idyllic and I drink it in, the crisp morning air filling my lungs. The moment I stepped foot into the town it felt like home. My Mom was right when she said I belonged back here. Her home town. My shoulders slump as I still feel the loss of my parents.

A chorus of shouts fill the air and pulls me from my sorrow. I grumble to myself, “Perfect location, right next to a field. My lily white ass it is.”

Triton lets out another grunt.

“Right, focus Sophia,” I tell myself. What the heck was I thinking getting a dog this big? “Come on boy you have to get up, mama can’t lift you.” I tug on his leash again and he doesn’t move an inch, just lets out a sigh.

I look across the street, to the ‘field.’ It’s seven am, on a Saturday no less, and high school football practice is already in full swing. I swallow and thank baby Jesus that in the week since I’ve been here, I haven’t shrieked at the boys or Mr. Holy Hotness their coach for being so loud in the mornings. Plus, who am I kidding? I’ve enjoyed watching him work out with the kids.

“Hello, can one of you boys help me?” My voice echoes across the street.

Fifty something heads turn my way. Oh.

I lift my chin up higher. “Can someone help me lift my dog? Please?”

Heads turn as they look back to their stoic coach who’s flipping through a book, studying it behind dark sunglasses. He looks up and nods his head once at the group of boys and they’re off.

Three boys come running across the street, one steps ahead of the others.

“Hello ma’am, I’m Bobby. That is Pete and Bubba.” He says as he points to the other two.

“Hey guys, I’m Sophia Brown.”

“Hello Sophia,” says Bubba in a high-pitched voice as his feet shuffle back and forth.

Bobby smacks him in the arm, “Your mama would have your head.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Brown.” Pete says.

Miss Brown? I can’t be much older than these boys. I press my lips together to hold my laughter back. Triton grunts on the floor bringing the attention back to him. I kneel down beside him.

“Is he a Saint Bernard?” Bubba asks.

“No, he’s a Bernese Mountain Dog.”

Triton’s tail thumps against the door.

I shake my head and murmur, “Good boy.” I scratch his face and then look up at the boys. “Can you help me get him into the truck?” I point over to it in the driveway.

“Sure,” Pete says with enthusiasm.

“Hey Triton, these gentlemen are going to help you into the car, okay baby?” The boys step closer and Pete joins me at the front while the other two head down by Triton’s tail.

“Okay, you both balance his back side while we get him from up here,” I say as I slide my hands under him.

Everyone gets in position and Triton turns his head to the two boys by his rear and lets out a little growl. Each of the boys pull away from him immediately.

“Triton! That is a bad boy!” I look at the boys apologetically. “He isn’t mean guys, just a bit grumpy today. Can we try again?”

They cautiously make eye contact with each other and nod their heads, putting their hands back under Triton. He turns his head and shows his teeth to Bubba and Bobby.

Their eyes go wide and they quickly back off, Bobby looks at me, “I’m sorry Miss Brown, but I don’t want to get bit.”

I nod, “I understand. I’ll figure something out.” I say with more confidence than I feel.

They stand up and back away from Triton and he shows his teeth at them once more with a low growl.

“King Triton, you stop that right now.” He sheepishly looks at me and howls, then plops his head down.

The three boys just stand there, “It’s okay, I can get him to move. You boys go back to your practice and thank you for trying.”

They look at each other and then back at the practice field, “Sorry, Miss Brown.” Pete sighs and then they silently leave. I stand back up and look down at him thinking about what will get him to move. Cheese is the first thing I can think of. I step over him, go back into the house and run down the hall to the kitchen. Grabbing a slice of cheese from the fridge, I slam the door and turn back. I can see Triton’s ears perk up as I unwrap the cheese, crinkling the wrapper.

“Here baby, mama has cheese.”

The damn dog doesn’t even turn around, but as I step outside I happen to look across the field where the three boys are animatedly pointing back at Triton as they talk to their coach. He hands one of the boys his book and then looks back at me, or at least I think he does. He has to be one of the only people I know that looks good in aviators. Damn good in fact.

He starts walking toward me and suddenly my mouth feels as if I’ve been sucking on cotton balls. I swear I can hear that song from the movie Top Gun playing. Is he walking in slow motion? No, he can’t be. I can’t take my eyes off him as the lyrics take my breath away teasingly echo in my head. As he approaches me, I try to gather myself and give him a welcoming smile.

“You might want to stop your dog from eating that cheese,” he states flatly with an upstate accent.

I look down at Triton as he stretches his neck to steal the cheese right out of my hand, noisily scarfing it down. I frown at him.

He groans.

I throw my hands up in the air, “Your belly hurts you big dope. Why did you eat more?”

The coach clears his throat.

“Oh sorry. Hi, I’m Sophia.” I put my hand out.

He looks down and takes it in a quick firm grasp, letting it go just as fast. “Hey, I’m Bo. Did you need some help with your dog?”

“Yes, I, uh…yes.” Still feeling the heat of his hand on mine, I manage an “it’s a pleasure to meet you,” before slowly moving my eyes down to Triton so that I can get a good look at him. Damn, they invented Levi’s for a body like that. Heaven.

Triton whimpers and rolls on his back.

“What’s wrong with him?” Bo asks with an eyebrow raised.

I sigh.

“He has a bad habit of eating anything and everything he can get his teeth into.”

“Ah, I see. You’re new here, right?”

I can’t see the expression on his face with those glasses on. “Yeah, word travels fast huh?”

“Sweetheart, the minute the house sold, tongues were waggin’.” He gives me a crooked smile.

“Good to know. Would you be able to help me lift him into my truck?”

“Sure, are you bringing him into the vet in town?” He runs a hand through his hair and rests it on the back of his neck.

“I was going to drive him to his old one since I haven’t been able to get in to meet the vet here yet.”

Triton looks up at me letting out a part whimper, part bark.

“Quit being dramatic,” I chide throwing my hands in the air.

Bo chuckles. “He has some personality. How far is the drive?”

“Slightly over two hours.”

He pauses then tilts his head to the side. “The vet here is excellent, would you like me to call in a recommendation?”

I tuck a stray piece of hair behind my ear and smile.

“You think they’d see us?”

“I think I can get you in.”

“I would love that, thank you so much for your hotness…I mean kindness!” I close my eyes, what the fuck?

He emits a deep laugh and pulls a phone from his back pocket, quickly sending a text off. “Come on, let’s get this boy into the car.”

“Okay, I’ll grab his upper half,” I indicate as I bend down by Triton’s head.

“You just get the door to the truck. What’s his name?” He gestures down.

“Triton, well King Triton. He only gets called the full name when he’s been bad, like now.” I look down, “You’re a very bad boy.”

His rolls to his side, his tail thumps on the doormat and he paws at the air again.

Bo cracks a grin.

“Alright buddy, you ready?” He squats down and puts his arms around Triton.

He growls low.

“King Triton.” My shoulders slump with exasperation.

Bo pulls a hand away from Triton and holds it up to me for silence. He then looks down at Triton and growls right back in his face. Triton’s tail stops wagging and he tucks it between his legs. Bo then with a grunt, picks him up and cradles him like a baby.

“Isn’t he heavy?” I question in shock.

“It’s fine–”

He doesn’t manage to complete his words before Triton licks his face.

Triton’s tail swings back and forth as he keeps on licking Bo’s face while the poor guy carries him to the truck. Bo stops when Triton’s next swipe goes over his sunglasses leaving a big wet streak mark on them.

I cover my mouth as I snort with laughter.

“A little help here?” he requests as he tries to pull his head back from Triton’s lick attack.

“Oh, here, let me,” I offer and step closer pulling the glasses off his face.

I freeze, my knees threaten to buckle from the heat of his gaze. Bo’s eyes are a sky blue and scorching like a hot summer’s day. I can’t take my eyes off him. Triton, the brat of a dog, knows I am drooling over him and interrupts us with a whine. I release a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.

“I meant the dog, but if you can hold those while we get this guy in the truck?”

“Yes, let me open the door.” I turn around and jog over to the truck. Swinging the door wide open, I look back and see him striding with Triton in his arms. I stand back as he sets him in the back cabin and I am blessed with the rear view of him.

“Oh my,” I whisper, my mouth dropping open at the perfect sight.

He sets Triton down with ease.

“Is something wrong?” Bo probes, his brows raised high, making his forehead crinkle with concern.

“Not a thing.” Good job Sophia, he almost caught you gawking at his behind. But what a lovely behind it is.

“Would you like me to drive?” He takes his glasses out of my hand and starts to clean them on his T-shirt.

His shirt lifts slightly and I get a peek at his abs. My face heats and I wipe the sweat off my forehead. I want to see more, but Jesus, get it together Sophia! You’re supposed to be focusing on Triton, not the coach’s magnificent body.

“Are you sure you have the time?” I glance over at the football field filled with athletes.

“Yeah, they’ll be alright.”

“Thanks so much for your help, but if you need to stay here I’m sure I can find someone to help at the vet office.”

He looks down into my eyes for a moment, then puts his aviators back on, breaking the contact. “How about you sit in the back with Triton and I’ll drive?”

“Sure, since you know where you’re going.” I inwardly sigh with relief. “Thanks.” I reach into my front pocket, fishing out my keys. “Here, you’ll need these.” I place them into Bo’s open hand and the second our skin touches a spark goes through me. I pull it back quickly and rub my palm frowning. What the hell was that?

Bo frowns. “Static,” he states gruffly. “You ok?” he asks shaking his hand off.

“I’m fine.” Still rubbing my hand, I get in the back with Triton. Bo stands for a brief second at the open door looking in at us, then nods his head once and gets into the driver’s seat.
