Then he twisted them suddenly, and a burst of pain hurtled through her nerve endings, making her cry out. Instinctively she took a step back, but Steve was behind her, blocking her movement. “Stay in position,” he murmured in her ear, his voice deep and commanding.
Zach continued to twist her nipples, the pain nearly unbearable. Shea began to pant in her effort not to cry. Then Steve reached around her body and pressed his palm against her mons. He cupped the smooth skin, his fingers hooking between her legs and sliding into the slippery wet cleft.
Shea began to tremble, fear, pain and desire warring in the battlefield of her mind. The pain at Zach’s hands and pleasure at Steve’s tossed her like a Ping-Pong ball between them. The realization both stunned and galvanized her. If this was an audition, well then, she was going to get the part. 
“Now it’s time to assess your masochistic tendencies and tolerance levels,” Steve said.
Shea lifted her head. She saw that Zach had taken a seat on the couch.
“I already got a little sense of this during the brief spanking at the club,” Steve said. “I’d like to take this opportunity to do a proper workup. Let’s use the St. Andrew’s cross. We’ll start with a nice, sensual flogging.” He held out his hand.

It’s not a secret that I FLOVE Freya Barker‘s writing and I was one happy gal when I heard about her latest book!

Shutter Speed was a short, exciting and hot read written in dual POV (which I’m a huge fan of!).
I loved Ben and Isla, they were both likable and although very different in personality they were a really good match and had a great connection.

Well written, engaging, with an interesting side story, Shutter Speed is an introduction to the characters that will feature in Freeze Frame (the first book in the new Snapshot series from Freya). It gave us an insight to the leading couple as well as an understanding of their back ground and how they got together.

Filled with mystery, intrigue, suspense and the heat, attraction and humour that Freya is exceptionally good at, this is a great intro to the new series!!

All in all I loved Shutter Speed and cannot wait to read Freeze Frame!

‘Finding beauty in the mundane things around us, capturing the artistry of nature, and showing the brilliance of imperfection.’

This line is taken from Shutter Speed, where Isla is describing why her dream has always been realistic art photography however it also, for me, perfectly describes Freya Barker’s writing. She has a very special ability to convey the steamy chemistry, intimate affection, humour and warmth we all look for in any good romance book along with a Joie de vivre that shines, but what distinguishes her stories from all the rest and makes them special and different is those imperfections she shows; older characters with emotional and physical issues, baggage from a life lived, yet Ms Barker weaves the reality and the fantasy so they are seamlessly intertwined and breathtakingly beautiful yet tangible and possible.

Ben is a Harley riding silver fox (hot as fuck!!) with an Alpha bad boy vibe (I can hear the thud of all those panties dropping!) and limited words – my only question is where do I find one?

Isla is a talented, cheerful and chatty opposite of Ben and their attraction and developing relationship has the most delicious slow burn to it that even in a novella Ms Barker has done flawlessly.

If you have read the Cedar Tree series then you already know she has a flair for the suspense aspect as well as the romance and never fails to deliver. What surprised me is that even in a shorter story we lose nothing; the impact, pace, surprises, feels and steam are all perfectly paced and give the impression of a fully finished and rounded story not a prequel novella.

Another accomplished and stylish story from an author who has become a fast favourite of mine.

They walked down the street and turned right. After a few more blocks they passed the middle school, heading toward the park bordered by Blaine Street. Despite the late hour, a few parents and children still played on the swings.

Ivy felt a moment’s envy, that her own perfect family didn’t exist and likely never would. She should be glad, really. Imagine if Max had gotten her pregnant the way he’d wanted to when they’d first started dating? All those years supporting him through undergraduate school had been difficult enough. But with a baby on board? Then his leaving her high and dry for law school and that perky blond would have hurt a lot more.

She should be glad to be strong and independent and single. Who the hell needed a man anyway?

Someone shouted from the other side of the street, and she started.

“You okay?” Sam put a hand on her shoulder to keep her from tripping over her own feet.

She felt safe next to his large presence. “Yeah, wasn’t paying attention.” Then, to prove she really didn’t need a man to protect her or stop her from being clumsy, she stepped away and called out for Cookie. By herself.

They walked all around the park and deeper into the West Queen Anne neighborhood. Despite Sam still being a stranger, he seemed on the up and up. He called out for the dog. They walked near each other but not too close. She saw him watching her, but when she’d look at him, he appeared to make an effort to seem nonthreatening. Hands in pockets, keeping his distance.

She found his actions comforting—and charming, oddly enough—because he didn’t seem to be trying to impress her. He’d sworn. Called her a hot chick, and he—

“Sam.” She pointed to a small moving shadow near a house on the corner of 4th and Blaine.

He nodded and raised his voice. “Scruffy. Come.”

The shadow picked its head up and took a step in their direction.

“Cookie, come here,” she added and made a few kissy sounds. “Come here, boy.”

A tiny yip, and then the little guy was bounding toward them. Sam and she crouched low, so as not to threaten with their size. But Cookie didn’t seem to care. He went to Sam first, his tail wagging and his tongue licking everywhere he could reach.

Ivy watched Sam’s stern demeanor melt into a smile that stole her breath. When he wasn’t looking so serious or tough, he was…beautiful. His smile reached his eyes, and the joy on his face was infectious.

LOVED IT!! Gods, Sam and Ivy are fab together! 

We’ve seen glimpses of Sam in the previous books in the series and he was rough, gruff and a bit of a pita at times (think Cyn & Foley and the exes!!) but in Zero to Sixty we get to see the real Sam Hamilton!! 

Sam has had a really awful upbringing (tempered by the fact that he was unofficially adopted by Foley and his mum, Eileen) and this has led him to believe that he’s unlovable and not worth anyone the attention of anyone he considers to be ‘good’. Enter Ivy…… Ivy herself has been made to feel worthless, uncared for and completely unlovable by her family who always seemed more focused on her brother and his success! As the pair get to know each other better, they realise they have much more in common than animal rescue – which is how they originally came into contact! 

Full of laughs, emotion, love and affection – especially when it came to family of choice – heat and attraction as well as a healthy dose of heartbreaking secrets, this was another fabulous installment in the Body Shop Bad Boys series from one of my favourite authors, Marie Harte! 
In all honesty, I think this is my top book of the 3 released so far; reading about Sam, his insecurities and discovering the gentle giant living within the tattooed, angry man was engaging and had me rooting for him and a happy ever after with his lady love (and their cute puppy) 

As ever, we caught up with the other guys in Webster’s Garage as well as Del’s new family, we caught a glimpse of the Donnigans and McCauleys and got a clue as to who Lou’s love interest is going to be in Collision Course (the fourth book in the series)

A great 5* read for me!

Seconds later, I land flat on my back with an oof that’s echoed by the sled as it slaps down a few feet away and shivers across the snow to spin in a lazy circle near a very large rock. I’m staring at the rock, thinking about how much worse things would be right now if I’d fallen on it instead of the snow, and silently thanking the gods of sledding that I’m alive, when I hear a male voice shout—“Fuck! Shit! Shit!”

—from somewhere overhead.

A moment later a steerable sled shoots off the ledge, soaring over my head to ram into a tree, splintering to pieces.

I flinch and cough, the breath rushing back into my lungs. I’m trying to roll over, figuring I’d better get up before my luck runs out and someone lands on top of me, when Nate’s head pops up above the snow bank. “Adeline! Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

My eyes narrow. “You.”

“Stay there, I’ll be right down,” he says, clearly not realizing that he’s the last person I want to see while I’m lying in the snow in a defeated heap.

“I don’t need help,” I call out, but I don’t try to get up again. I’ve already embarrassed myself enough in front of Nate. I refuse to give him the satisfaction of seeing me wallow around in a snowdrift like an artic walrus.

In what feels like no time, he’s found his way down to the scene of my humiliation and fallen to his knees beside me. “Just lie still.” The concern on his face as he tugs off his gloves is almost funny. Too bad I’m not in the mood to laugh anymore. “I have first aid training. Not a lot, but enough to see if anything’s broken. Can you tell me where it hurts?”

“It doesn’t hurt,” I insist, still making no move to rise. “I’m fine. You can leave.”

He scowls, and his eyes flash the way they do when he’s angry. Or turned on. Or maybe angrily turned on, though I’ve never personally seen him in that state. “You just sledded off a goddamned ledge, Adeline,” he says, voice rough. “And you’re not moving.”

“I don’t feel like moving,” I say stubbornly. “I’m enjoying a rest in the snow. So go away, Nate. Go, go, go away, and don’t come back another day.”

His breath rushes out. “That’s mature.”

“Yeah? Well, screw mature,” I say, the heat in my tone surprising me. “I did mature. I did all the mature while you were off hitting keg parties. I don’t have to do mature right now, and I don’t have to talk to you. So go away!”

Nate’s jaw clenches and I’m pretty sure he’s about to lose his temper in a fashion unlike anything I’ve seen from him before.

Instead he leans in, wrapping his hands around my wrists, pinning them to the snow. “I’m not going away,” he whispers inches from my lips, making my pulse spike. “Not until you let me get through to you, one way or another.”

“If you kiss me, I’m going to bite you,” I warn, heart racing.

“Fine by me. I like it when you bite.” And then he kisses me. He kisses me hard and deep and my stupid body lights up like a California brush fire.

My nerve endings ignite, and fireworks launch behind my closed eyes, and I moan into his mouth like he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to my lips. And he is, the bastard. He tastes so good, so incredibly good, like the first drink of water after hours spent boiling in the summer heat—fresh and clean and explosively delicious.
