Excerpt

Jozlyn watched in utter fascination as Turo tossed the two men around like ragdolls. She’d tried to ignore them, but they’d been insistent on buying her a drink. After her third tequila shot, she’d said screw it and let them buy her the fourth one. However, her fogged brain had rebelled at the thought of taking the lime from the one who’d placed it in his mouth. Hell, she was ready to lick the salt without the sour fruit, had started to pick the shaker up just as she’d felt a prickle of awareness dance down her spine. Turo. God, just saying his name made her panties wet and her nipples hard. How did the man do that to her without even touching her?

“Hello, Jozlyn,” he rumbled.

Yep, just like that, her ovaries did a jig. What the hell did he do? Go to school and learn how to pitch his voice to the seduction level of panty-melting or what? Maybe she was drunk enough, traumatized enough, that it was affecting her and making her act like something she wasn’t. Sure, she’d had sex. Mediocre at best with a college boyfriend. He was older, as was almost everyone she’d gone to school with. Lyric and Syn had told her having her V-card was a good thing, but they didn’t understand what it was like being the only one in her sorority with it. When she’d finally done the deed, it wasn’t like she’d read in books. She sure as shit didn’t see stars, or feel the clenching of her vagina begging for more. Nope, Joz could only lay there hoping he’d hurry and finish.

Turo snapped his fingers in her face. “Earth to Jozlyn. Come on, I’m taking you home.”

She blinked a few times, her brain fuzzy from one too many shots. “Do you know that tequila is made from blue agave and the core of the plant contains aquamiel or honey water, which is used for syrup and tequila production?”

The big tattooed man blinked down at her, a slight grin on his too gorgeous face. “Is that right?” he asked.

“Yep. And did you know the agave plant can weigh up to two hundred pounds when harvested?” she licked her lips. Focusing on his full and very kissable mouth. She wondered what it would be like to kiss him.

“Ah, Ko’u uuku hahai, you play with fire,” he mumbled.

“The Hawaiian language is so lyrical. Why do you call me your little butterfly? I’m not really that small.” She slapped a hand over her mouth. “I should shut up now. When I drink I tend to spout things. Nonsensical things.”

“Like wondering what it would be like for me to kiss you?” His head bent and he brushed his lips over hers.

Words tumbled around in her fogged brain, first and foremost was the fact she clearly spoke her desire out loud. Second was the man was an expert kisser, and his lips were soft as velvet.

He chuckled against her lips. “Quit thinking and kiss me back, hahai.”

Turo lifted her to the top of the bar. The others around her disappeared, or at least in her mind, they did.

“Hey you two, get a room.” Reeves smirked at them from across the bar as he cleaned a glass and set it back on the shelf.

Jozlyn was stunned to find herself with a very aroused Turo between her thighs. “What the hell are we doing?”

Turo shook his head like he’d just come out of a daze himself. “You make me lose my mind.”

She smiled. “I can fix you. It’s my profession.” Where this playful side to her came from she had no idea, but the thought of bringing a smile to the too serious man in front of her was appealing.

He pulled her in closer to him. “You want to play doctor with me?”

Heat sizzled where they touched. “Why do I get the idea you’re not talking the same kind of doctor as me?”

The naughty look he gave made her squirm in his embrace and had him inhaling. “Fuck, you smell so damn delicious. I could lick you all damn day and still want more,” he growled just as the music stopped.

She looked around to see if anyone was watching them, only to gasp as several were indeed staring. “Oh my god, everyone is watching us.”

Turo looked over his shoulder and growled. “Would you like to say hello to my little friend?”

Jozlyn smacked his chest. “Why are you offering me to them?”

He laughed along with the bartender he’d called Reeves.

“Should I show her your little friend, Turo?” Reeves reached below the bar, pulling out the largest gun she’d ever seen outside of television.

“What the heck is that?” Her fingers lifted to touch, but then she snatched her arm back. “Is that even legal?”

Another chuckle came from the man between her legs. “You truly are a treasure.”

Her addled brain was having a hard time processing everything, which was a first for her. “I think I might be sick,” she announced, placing a palm to her stomach.

Instantly the smile was replaced with concern. Turo swept her off the bar and began moving through the throng of people.

“Don’t let him tap your bootyhole, girl. Them wolves all like bootyhole action.”

“Reeva, pipe the fuck down or I’ll have your brother woop your ass,” Turo snarled at the woman who yelled.

“What’s she talking about?” Jozlyn rested her head on Turo’s shoulder, the lurching sensation had her gulping in great big breaths of air, hoping she didn’t throw up all over him.

“Ignore her,” he said as he entered the ladies’ room. Several women scattered as he made his way into the first stall. “Out, all of you,” he ordered.

Her world spun as she was placed on her feet, but she was happy to see the toilet was clean, although her hair swung down in front of her. A second later a hand came in front of her, gathering the heavy mass and then she didn’t care what or who was there as she retched into the porcelain.

“Oh god, I’m never drinking tequila again. Ever,” she moaned after a few minutes.

Turo flushed a couple times so she didn’t have to stare at her stomachs contents, which she was eternally grateful for.

“You probably shouldn’t have drunk so much on an empty stomach. Tequila isn’t bad when you do it slowly and with something to soak it up.” He helped her stand. “You ready to wash your face?”

She placed both palms on either side of the stall, not daring to look behind her at the big man who’d held her hair while she tossed her cookies. Nope, never had she thrown up in front of anyone except her parents. Heck, she’d never even done it while out with Lyric and the girls. Now, this gorgeous hunk of a man not only had seen her, but he’d held her hair and flushed the yuck down the toilet a few times. Yeah, not the sexiest thing she’d ever done. “I’m fine now, you can go back…wherever you were going.”

He grunted, his fingers tightened in her hair. “I was coming to find you, so I’m right where I want to be.”

Chancing a look over her shoulder, she could see he was staring intently at her. “In the ladies’ room with me while I said hello to the porcelain god?”

A humor filled grin split his lips. “Well, I will admit, I hadn’t expected that, but you are still sexy as hell.”

“You’re slightly crazy. That’s my official diagnosis as a doctor,” she said covering her mouth with her hand. “I need to rinse my mouth out. I feel like I have swamp breath.”

Turo raised a brow but stepped back, his hand still holding her hair. “Come on.”

“You gonna let me go?” Her fogged brain was beginning to clear the tiniest bit.

“Do I gotta?”

His little boy lost look probably got him all kinds of things, like between any woman’s thighs he wanted. The thought had her straightening to her full height, which only brought her to his chin. “Yes,” she agreed.

He nodded, letting go but sifting his fingers through her hair slowly, the tips caught on a few snarls. “I love your hair. It’s like black silk.”

Not sure how to answer that, she went to the sink and splashed cold water on her overheated face then brought her cupped hands filled with water to her mouth, swishing the cool liquid around over and over and spit it out, repeating a couple times before she felt like her mouth was cleanish. Gah, she hated throwing up.

“Here.” Turo offered her a piece of gum.

Her hands shook a little as she took the wrapped rectangular piece of minty goodness. “You’re a lifesaver.”

“That’s what all the ladies say. Come on, let’s get out of here.” He held the door open.

“I need to check on Egypt.” She didn’t know where she was going to go. If the man chasing them was the little girl’s dad, he probably knew where she lived. She’d have to check into a hotel, but if he was smart enough to get into a secured psychiatric wing of a hospital, he could probably figure out how to track her.

“Egypt is staying with her mother at the clinic. They’ll be guarded by…the club members. You can rest assured nothing will be able to get to them. As for where you’re going,” he paused to pin her with his steady gaze. “You’re coming home with me, and before you object, think. You’ll be safe, since he won’t think to track you there, and even if he did, I’m more than prepared to deal with anyone who dares touch what’s mine.”

“But, I’m nobody to you,” she denied.

“You keep thinking that, hahai.” He guided her through the throng of people.

About The Author

frances stockton photo

My love for storytelling began in kindergarten when I created my first fictional characters. Though I’d given them simple nicknames, I’d convinced my family that Red Henry and Green Henry were identical twin brothers in my elementary school.

They were mischievous, rarely did their homework, had trouble with math and spelling, experienced heartbreaking losses, and yes, they even had girlfriends!

It wasn’t until the Henry twins mysteriously moved to a different state that my family realized that they were entirely fictitious and my mother suggested I write the stories down.

A few years later, I began to write, completing my first manuscript at age thirteen. I confess the heroine was a cross between Nancy Drew and a contemporary Laura Ingalls Wilder, who happened to be dating one of the Hardy Boys. But when I’d written ‘the end’ on the very last page, I’d known I had more stories to tell. Of course life intervened, but whether I was in high school, becoming part of a local theater and dance company, working as a Veterinary Technician, earning a degree in History and Secondary Education, or teaching, I was always writing and reading romances.

Finally, I met and married the love of my life and moved from Maryland to Massachusetts in 2001. Shortly after, I proudly joined Romance Writers of America and the New England Chapter, and I’ve been writing faithfully ever since. I love to hear from readers, connect with me through Facebook, Twitter or by email.

BOOK BLAST ~ The Daughters of Arianne Trilogy by Joey W. Hill

When a wounded angel falls out of the skies, a mermaid risks her life to save him…

A seawitch who hates the whole world is championed by the one angel who refuses to let her drive him away…

A merangel is trapped in a dark world with a vampire half-breed who doesn’t know the difference between good and evil; only between what he wants and what he can have…

The Daughters of Arianne trilogy: Paranormal romances that straddle the line between sensual and erotic, and explore the dark side of the Little Mermaid fairy tale. Now, these books are being re-released at self-published prices and, even better, they’re on sale during the pre-order period! Through July 31, get all three full-length novels for $8.97 on Amazon, Kobo or iBooks.

For full excerpts and blurbs to these three titles, visit http://storywitch.com/series-doa.

From the author: When I wrote these books, I expected them to be romances with lovely mermaids, really hot angels, and awesome good-versus-evil climactic battles. All that worked out just fine (wink), but the stories also became an emotional exploration into how we deal with love and loss, regrets, and how we try to live every moment of our life with a deep understanding of how precious it can be, no matter what challenges we face. I hope you give them a try!

“You’re awfully quiet. Are you sure you’re okay?” Jules asked as the sign for the hospital came into view.

He nodded, taking a deep breath. “I’m fine, just thinking.” Turning to see how she was reacting to the situation, Ando decided to be honest with her, or at least marginally. “I lost my fiancée in a boating accident. She fell overboard, hitting her head. I held her while she…anyway, I don’t think this little scratch is going to do me in.” He touched the bandage, his fingers came away with a red stain.

“I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine losing someone you love like that.” She pressed trembling lips together.

Ando saw her eyes glitter with tears. Holy shit, this woman who didn’t know him or anything about his past was ready to cry for his loss. Without thinking he put his hand on her thigh. “It was a long time ago.” No longer did his heart squeeze at the words. No longer did he want to go back to the past and shake Melanie, demanding answers. No, only a sense of grief for the loss of life, hers and the child even though it wasn’t his, hit him.

Jules swallowed audibly. “I’m still sorry. Losing a loved one, no matter how long ago, hurts.”

He wondered who she’d lost and if it was a lover. His thoughts were cut off as she pulled into the ER entrance. “I can drop you at the doors and park, or park and we can go in together?” she asked.

Realizing his hand was still on her thigh, he pulled back. “Park and we’ll walk in together. I’m not an invalid even though I seem to be bleeding like a stuck pig.”

She laughed, easing the tension. “You really are, aren’t you?”

They found a spot in the front as another vehicle pulled out. “Eureka,” Jules said while they waited for the SUV to move. “This must be our lucky night.” She then looked at his bloody bandage, then grimaced. “Or not,” she corrected.

“Come on, woman, let’s get me stitched up so I don’t need to get a transfusion,” he joked, or at least hoped he wouldn’t need one. Hell, he honestly had no clue if he’d lost enough blood to need one.

“Nah, you won’t need one of those. It only seems like you’ve lost a shitton of the stuff.” She reached for the door handle. “You ready?”

“You bet. Let’s get this over with. I might need to hold your hand when they stitch me up.” He grinned.

Hopping down she met him in the front of the pickup, engaging the alarm with a press of the keyfob. “I highly doubt that, but I’ll stick by your side just in case you pass out.”

Ando couldn’t believe how easy it was to talk and joke with Jules, a woman he’d just met. Although it could be the knock to his head. However, he doubted that had anything to do with it.

The emergency room was bustling with activity. Jules seemed to know several of the workers and was immediately recognized. If they’d been in Miami, he’d have been whisked back to a private area in minutes. Now, he sat in a chair filling out paperwork while the woman who’d brought him in chatted with a man who looked old enough to be her damn uncle, or dad, and Ando didn’t like it one damn bit.

He finished the last of the paperwork, then got up to turn it into the nurse at the front. She glanced up, smiled then he was taken back to a small room marked triage made up of glass enclosures. Jules was still locked in a conversation with the older man and another had joined them. So much for her sticking next to him.

“Your blood pressure is a little high,” the nurse said making notes.

Taking a deep breath, he looked away from Jules and the spectacle she was making. He smiled at the middle-aged nurse wearing the red scrubs, thinking it was a truly poor choice in color choice. “Sorry, try it again. I was a bit nervous.” He steadied his breathing and thought of nothing in particular.

“Much better.” She made the correction, then led him into another room down the hall after getting all his vitals. “Alright, the ER Doc will be with you shortly. I’d offer you something to drink, but just in case you need surgery, which I don’t think you will, we can’t just yet.” She winked. “Now, if you need anything just press this here button. My name is Louise.” The woman left as quickly as she ushered him in.

He looked at the bed and the lone chair in the small cubicle they called a room, then decided the bed looked like the best option since he’d have to sit there when the doctor came in anyway. Pulling his cellphone out of his pocket, he decided to text his sister a pic of himself with the wound. If nothing else, she’d get a kick out of his predicament.

Gia’s immediate response brought a smile to his lips. Only a sister would tell her brother it was an improvement to his regular ugly mug, followed by a ‘how you doin’ meme.

He let her know he was fine, and would update on the number of stiches afterwards. Of course, she wants all the details, which he’d gloss over as best he could when he got home.

The sound of the curtain being pulled open had him looking up from his phone to find Jules there.

“Hey there,” Jules said.

****

Jules tried to paste on a happy appearance, but being waylaid by one of the officers who’d worked the night she’d saved Marietta brought her mood south. To top it off, she then had to deal with Sean, a guy she’d dated off and on, more off than on asking her about Ando and her. Jeez, couldn’t a girl catch a break from all the drama?

“Hey,” Ando said.

If artic glare could describe the way his dark eyes stared at her, then that was what he gave her.

“Sorry I left you earlier. That was one of the cops who was on duty on a case I was involved in. He was giving me an update on it.” She shut her mouth when he narrowed his eyes.

“I thought you were an EMT?”

In for a penny and all that she thought. “I am, but sometimes life brings you into situations out of your control. I was walking along the beach one night and stumbled upon a scene straight out of a nightmare. Suffice it to say, I inadvertently saved a young woman’s life.”

When Ando opened his mouth to ask more questions she was sure, the curtain was pulled back, saving her from having to answer and relive the horrifying night again.

“Good evening, Mr. Delgado. What do we have here?”

Jules stood to the side while a man in scrubs came in, his name tag said his name was Dr. Torres.

“Evening, Dr. Torres. I fell off the end of the boat dock and hit my head.” Ando indicated his head.

Dr. Torres went through some routine questions and tests, then pulled the bandage away. “Looks like someone cleaned you up pretty good,” he stated.

“Jules here is an EMT with Dallas Fire and Rescue.” Ando’s gaze landed on her.

If she didn’t know better she’d swear he sounded proud of her. “I cleaned it out and made sure there wasn’t any foreign bodies in the wound, then got him here as quickly as safety allowed.”

“You did a good job. Head wounds tend to bleed like a sieve. Let’s get you stitched up and out of here quickly, son.”

She met Ando’s eyes as Dr. Torres and the nurse set up the instruments needed. “You doing okay?”

Ando nodded. “Yeah, I can handle it. You gonna hold my hand?”

Her breath stalled in her throat. “Sure.” The word came out breathlessly.

“Alright, Suzy is going to clean it up a bit more just to make sure it’s one hundred percent clean. Not that I don’t trust your abilities, young lady, but we don’t want to have anything foreign inside there when we seal him up. I’d say you’ll have about five stitches.” Dr. Torres took off his gloves and made some notes while the nurse named Suzy came forward.

“This is definitely going to hurt a little.” Her dark brown hair was pulled back in a low ponytail, true regret rang through in her tone.

Ando held his hand out toward Jules. Without hesitation she took it, entwining their fingers. “I’ll hold still, just work quickly.”

EXCERPT

She would make a magnificent dragon. Wrapped in all the gold he could give her, her flesh peeking from beneath. She was his.

Kai.”

He looked over at Ellen, lifting a brow in inquiry.

Don’t mess with my cousin.”

He grinned. “I’m not. She’s my mate.” Ellen’s eyes widened while Breccan and Maxwell snickered. His eyes wandered down the hall she’d flounced out. She might have meant to look fierce, but her bouncy blonde hair and petite size negated that. Kai wanted nothing more than to follow her and claim her. Her scent was even stronger in the enclosed space than wafting on the breeze. He’d bet she wore a dragon’s mark somewhere on her luscious body. He couldn’t wait to hunt for it.

Holy cow! Are you sure?” Ellen grinned. “That’s great!”

Breccan chimed in. “By her reaction, I’d say not so great.” He sported a big grin on his face. “Looks like Kai will have a battle on his hands.”

Maxwell’s sly twist of his lips showed he was enjoying the situation too.

Kai glared at them. Damn wolves. They were a pain. He could see the colors in the kitchen change as his dragon attempted to get out. A little barbeque wolf was a tasty snack. The rumble of agreement by his dragon made him smirk. He couldn’t hurt those two, no matter how aggravating they were. Breccan was the only reason Ellen didn’t spend her days wrapped in fear any more. His dragon reluctantly settled down.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Excerpt #2:

What is up with the sniffing?” She sounded aggravated.

What do you mean?”

You sniffed me, Lou sniffed me, and the doc sniffed me. I took a shower! So, what the heck is going on?”

Kai grinned, a laugh rumbling out of his chest. Eyes spitting fire at him, Connie shoved at him to push him away. He didn’t budge. Kai grabbed her hands, one large hand pinning them down against the car and leaned down to kiss her. He took his time, tracing her soft lips with his tongue before plunging his inside to taste her sweetness. Her flavor burst on his tongue.

Connie struggled at first, and then tilted her head, opening her mouth to further exploration. He deepened the kiss, the softness of her mouth addicting.

Kai released her hands and pulled Connie up against him. Her arms slipped around his neck pulling him down as he pulled her up. Kai ran his hands up and down her back, pulling her legs around his waist. He rumbled. The feel of her curvy body against him drove him crazy. He moved, the denim constricting his erection. His dragon surfaced, wanting to claim her. He pulled her tighter against him, nestling his cock between the warmth he could feel emanating from between her legs. Kai rubbed against her, seeking relief. He wanted nothing more than to burst free and enter that sanctuary his denim denied him.

EXCERPT

Connie’s eyes widened. “Ellen, this isn’t another one of your men, is it?” she whispered. A stirring of jealousy nudged her at the thought.

A peal of laughter came from Ellen, while Breccan growled. “No, of course not. This is my foreman, Kai. Kai, this is my cousin Connie.”

Hi.” Connie smiled appreciatively at Kai, her heart beating erratically. “Ellen, do you have all the good looking men in town on your place?” The jealousy gone, she could feel his pull. So not what she needed right now.

Hello.” Kai grinned at Connie. “So, this is where you were heading?” He came over and leaned down, grabbing her hand, lifting it to his mouth. His lips were soft, lightning streaked through her body at the touch of his lips against her skin. Connie wanted to drown in the sensation, a shiver spreading across her body.

Connie tugged her hand from his and nodded. “I decided to come visit Ellen. I needed to get away from the city for a bit.” A shadow passed over her face. Seeing it, Kai gazed intently into her eyes. All the men reacted, their spines straightening and eyes sharpening, all looking at Connie.

Kai pulled Connie into his body, wrapping his steely arms around her. “What’s wrong? What are you scared of?”

Connie gasped and wriggled away. Her nipples tightened beneath her thin robe and pajamas. She wouldn’t look down. She didn’t want to know if they were obvious.

Nothing. Well, something. I can’t talk about it yet. I don’t really know how to explain it.” She shook her head, frustrated that he’d known she hid something. Ignoring her haywire hormones that thought being wrapped around him perfectly fine, she plopped back down in her chair. “Let me get it straight. I already asked Ellen to give me a couple of days. You guys are just going to have to wait also.”

You can explain it now.” Hands on his hips, every inch of Kai demanded an answer.

Connie glared up into Kai’s eyes. “Well excuse me, Mr. Bossy Pants. Since I don’t know you, you have no say in what I do or don’t do.” Who did he think he was? He had no right to question her. None. “I’m going to get dressed.” Connie flounced up, moving to avoid touching Kai. Gah, even his name was sexy.
