DTF. Support your local girl gang!Me and my dirty, tough female besties were stripping it down at The Steamy Clam!

I knew that my side hustle as a stripper would pay my bills, but who would have thought the pole life would lead to a proposal?

A fake one anyway …

Then again, I knew divine intervention when I saw it.

And that fake relationship might be the realest thing I’d ever felt.

I was minding my business, slaying my goals, living my best life with my girl gang—on my own terms. Love was the last thing on my mind. Marriage just wasn’t in the cards for me. I never considered myself wifey material.

Staying at home, baking cookies and washing laundry? Forget it!

Then, Weston, with his big heart and bushy beard, snuck his way into my feelings. His family was prim and perfect, and my edgy attitude and I were not.

He needed a fiancée to secure his place in the family business, and I needed cash to pay off my debts from a string of mooching exes.

This crazy lie was a win-win for both of us. How could I say no?

Kat Addams is a forever twenty-nine-year-old fashionista following her lifelong dream of writing contemporary romance inspired by the exotic men she meets in her worldly travels. At least, that’s what she would like for you to think. She’s certainly not a stay-at-home mom indulging in excessive daydreaming, frozen pizzas, an unhealthy addiction to purchasing pajamas, and one too many cocktails on the regular. That’s some other romance author. The poor thing probably has to sneak away upstairs to write her dirty stories! What would her family think? Thankfully, that’s not Kat!

RELEASE BLITZ – A Date for Good Luck by Heidi McLaughlin & LP Dover

Title: A Date for Good Luck
Series: Dating #3
Authors: Heidi McLaughlin & LP Dover
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 9, 2020
Blurb
Kiss the Blarney Stone, Hope Dunn is going to
need some good ole fashion Irish luck! In the chaos of tax season the Arizona accountant is pulled away to stand in her cousin’s wedding. All it takes is one step back in the Big Apple, and she regrets making the trip. True to character, her mother uses their time together to hound Hope about getting married and settling down.

Still, Hope fulfills her bridesmaid obligations by joining the bridal party for a shamrock wearing, pint chugging St. Paddy’s day blow out. There she runs into best man and smokin’ hot ginger—Kellan Townsend. Far too much green beer later, she finds out exactly what that fine Irish lad keeps under his kilt.
Afterwards, Hope wants nothing more than to walk of shame her way into a dark room and nurse her hangover. Unfortunately, wedding demands won’t allow it. As if facing Kellan
isn’t awkward enough, her mother picks that moment to launch into a fresh guilt-trip over her lack of grandbabies. Like a lucky little Leprechaun, Kellan cuts in with a magical offer.

A pretend romance to get her mother off her back seems like a wish granted. But Kellan has an agenda all his own. Can he use this opportunity to jig his way straight into Hope’s
heart? Or will he need a four-leaf clover to get past this workaholic’s defenses?

Excerpt

Kellan nods toward the bar. “Ready?” He holds out his arm and it’s as if my body moves of its own accord. I take it and he leads me to
the bar. “Let me guess, green beer?”
“Please,” I scoff, waving him off, “it’s St. Patrick’s Day. I want a true Irish-inspired drink.”
The bartender walks over to us. “What’ll it be you two?”
Kellan looks to me. “Ladies first.”
“I’ll take an Irish Eyes,” I say. The bartender nods and smiles and then turns to Kellan.
Kellan laughs at me. “Irish whiskey, huh? I think I’ll do the same.” The bartender pours the whiskey in a glass and mixes it with a
little cream and green crème de menthe. Kellan holds up his glass and looks in my
eyes. “It actually matches
your eyes. But you’re not Irish.”
I shake my head. “Nope. Got a lot of German in me though.”
Kellan takes a sip of his drink. “Don’t know why this is called Irish Eyes. The most common eye color among Irish is blue.”
Holding up my glass, I clank it against his. “Just like yours.”
His blue eyes twinkle and I avert my gaze to my drink. The way he looks at me makes things stir inside of me and I really don’t need my insides to be stirred right now, or even think of it for that matter. I should probably stop drinking.
“So, tell me,” Kellan calls out, “how long are you in town for?”
I take a sip of my drink, it’s loaded with Irish whiskey. “Only till the wedding,” I respond, meeting his gaze again. “After that, I have
to get back.”
His lips pull back slightly in that sexy grin of his. “So, not long then. Hate to hear it.” I’m starting to hate it too. Shaking my head, I try to drive all indecent thoughts out of my mind, but all I can think about is hearing his voice in the dark, whispering in my ear as he touches me. I push the drink aside and Kellan laughs. “Too much for you?”
I rub a hand over my face. The room feels hot, but that’s probably because I’m tipsy and he’s making me want things I shouldn’t. “Actually, I was a little drunk to begin with. I think I need some air.”
Kellan takes my hand. “Come on. There’s a private area out back we can sit. I’ll grab you a bottle of water and we can go out there.”
He asks the bartender for a water and hands it to me. We walk out of the private room into the hallway and I guzzle the water as we head
toward the door. When Kellan opens it, it leads out onto a balcony that overlooks the river. There are people everywhere and I can hear their chattering, but the cool air feels good on my skin.
“Better?” Kellan asks.
I nod. “Much. I just needed some fresh air.” There are two wrought iron chairs and he guides me into one.
“How much have you had to drink today?”
Groaning, I close my eyes. “Well … I was forced into taking Jell-O shots in the limo. To be honest, I’m not a huge drinker. Doesn’t take
much to get me drunk.” Kellan laughs and it makes me smile. That’s one of the things I never forgot about him … the way he laughs.
“What are you smiling about?” he asks, laughing again.
I turn to face him. “Your laugh. I remember it from a long time ago. You were always so fun to be around. I always thought you’d end up
with Hannah one day.”
Smiling, he shakes his head. “No. I always had my eye on someone else. Didn’t work out though.”
“You mean Bridget?” I ask.
“Fuck no,” he blurts out. “That was over a long time ago.”
His smile fades and I can see a flash of pain in those blue eyes of his. “What happened?”
Sighing, he looks off into the distance. “She did me wrong. Never thought I’d get hurt, but I did. After she left me for someone else, I just didn’t give a shit anymore.”
“Is that when you started growing a beard? In the pictures Hannah and Hallie sent over the years, I thought you were a homeless man.”
That’s not exactly true. He’s always been good looking, but I really did hate the long, scraggly beard. Now, he looks sexy with just the stubble.
Kellan chuckles hard. “You thought I looked homeless? That’s messed up, Hope.”
I shrug. “Hey, you don’t look it now.” I glance down at his green get up. “Right now, you look like a leprechaun.”
He peers down at my green tutu. “And you look like a silly fairy.” But then he looks up at me and winks. “A cute one, by the way.” We
watch the people walk by on the street and they’re all having such a grand ole time. It’s easy to get lost in the appeal. Feels like it’s been forever since I’ve let loose and had fun.
Kellan leans back in his chair. “So, tell me about yourself. What’s changed since the last time I saw you?”
I shrug. “Not much. Got older and left town.”
His brows lift curiously. “Dating anyone?”
“No,” I reply, shaking my head. “I was seeing someone a few months ago, but it didn’t work out. We really didn’t have anything in common. He was all into trail riding on his bike and I just couldn’t get into it. I tried once and broke my wrist.”
Kellan snorts. “And did he wear that girly looking spandex shit?”
The thought makes me smile. “Yep, but he wasn’t very masculine to begin with. Maybe that’s why I really wasn’t attracted to him. Not
that I need a man to protect me, but it’d be nice to have someone who could defend my honor if need be.” I roll my eyes. “Okay, I must really be drunk to say crap like that.”
He smirks. “I get it. A woman should feel protected when she’s with her man.”
The door opens and Stewart steps out. “There you both are,” he says, looking concerned.
Kellan stands and I do the same. “Is everything okay?”
Stewart sighs. “I think Hallie’s had too much to drink. She’s sick so we’re going to head back to the house. The limo should be here in five minutes.”
I nod. “We’ll be there.”
Usually, I’d want the night to end, but I don’t want it to now. Plus, I don’t want to go home. My mother will still be awake and all too
ready to finish her conversation about how I need to get busy with my life and find a husband. And if I don’t, she’ll handle it for me. My goal was to not go home until I knew she was asleep.
“What’s wrong?” Kellan asks.
With a heavy sigh, I meet his gaze. “I don’t want to go home just yet.”
He shrugs. “Then don’t. You can come with me and I’ll take you home later.”
The thought tempts me, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not. I trust Kellan not to do anything stupid, but the problem is me. I’m
the one I need to worry about.
“Are you sure?” I ask, second guessing myself, but then he opens his lips and talks to me in that sexy Irish brogue.
“Come on, lassie. It’ll be fine.”
How can I say no to that?

So you want to know a little more about me? Well, okay then. Much like any author out there, sleeping doesn’t come easily to me. As it turns out, I’ve got horrible insomnia. Like, scary horrible. Anyway, when I was younger, to help myself fall asleep I’d tell myself stories. Each night I’d pick up where the story left off previously until it was complete. Then I started writing them down. A few months later, here I am, sharing my lack of sleep with all of you. Who said the stories in our heads can’t be fun for others?

Excerpt

Increasing her pace, a chill worked its way through Evie’s limbs. The sun was almost finished setting, and that meant it would be dark soon. Evie hated the dark. She was automatically at a disadvantage with Troy in the dark. Another disadvantage she should say. He could still see, she was blind. It was
an extra layer of protection for him, like he needed that.
Luca had offered Evie a ride, but she’d declined, hoping the fresh air would clear her mind. As the echoes of her steps filled the air, she started to regret her decision. At this very moment, she could be sitting next to him in
his warm car, breathing in his musky scent.
Evie could almost hear his deep voice in the back of her mind. Feel the vibration of his words. A smile touched Evie’s lips at the thought.
No. What was she doing?
Shaking her head, Evie pushed down the feelings. Feelings were dangerous. They were the reason she was where she was in her life at the moment. Luca was dangerous to her. She had to keep her distance, no matter how much her body wanted her to do otherwise.
As the hairs on the back of Evie’s neck stood up, she suddenly had the feeling of being followed.  Subtly, as to not draw any attention, Evie turned her head to look down the road behind her. Nothing.
Taking a calming breath, she forced herself to maintain her pace, even though her legs wanted to race. She could see her house up ahead. Then she would be inside with the semblance of safety. Not far to go.
A rustling noise behind Evie sounded. This time she did stop. Turning, she stared out to the empty street. Again, there was nothing. About to turn back, the sight of fresh shoe tracks in the mud next to the path caught her
attention.
Turning back to her house, this time, she did increase her pace.
Stop being stupid, Evie, there are dozens of people who use this path.
So why did it stick out to her?

RELEASE BOOST – Jock Blocked (Copper Valley Fireballs #1) by Pippa Grant

Title: Jock Blocked

Series: Copper Valley Fireballs #1
Author: Pippa Grant

Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 19, 2020

BLURB:

She can’t let him score…

Call it superstition, but when a guy bats as hot as Brooks Elliott, you don’t mess with what’s working. And what’s working is him keeping his pants zipped and doing all of his scoring on the field.
So when I hear he’s planning to ditch his V-card now that he’s been traded to baseball’s lovable losers—aka my home team and my reason for living every March through October—I do what any rational, dedicated, obsessed fan would do.
I make a plan to stop him.
But the thing about stopping him is that it requires spending time with him.
Lots. And lots. And lots of time.
And the more time I spend with him, the more I like him. Not as the guy who’s going to help save my favorite team and finally bring home a championship ring, but as the guy who’s helping me in my quest to bring back the team’s old mascot. Who also loves making pancake and bacon sandwiches. And who would do almost anything for his love of the game.
But after all this time of jock-blocking him…do I even have a chance?
And if I do, are we both destined to a life of celibacy in the name of winning?

Jock Blocked is a home run of a romantic comedy featuring the world’s most superstitious sports fan, baseball’s oldest virgin hero, a rogue meatball, an adorable puppy with a cussing problem, and the best lovable losers. It stands alone and comes with a happily ever after more satisfying than a game-winning grand slam.

EXCERPT:

Mackenzie Montana, aka a woman on a mission
I never meant to become a criminal. But in the grand scheme of life, I don’t think I’m
technically engaging in criminal behavior.
At least, if it is, you could call it a crime of passion.
And I am very passionate in my belief that while the Fireballs need to make changes to halt their record-breaking streak of being the worst losing team ever to play professional baseball, they don’t need to do it with a new mascot. Which is why I decided to take two weeks off work and fly to Florida for spring training, where I’m not saying that I’ve snuck into my home team’s ballpark after hour to steal the worst proposed mascot costume, but I’m not saying I haven’t either.
Meatballs?
They actually let a meatball make the final cut.
I needed at least another full season to get over the fact that the new Fireballs ownership killed the last mascot, and here they are, letting fans vote on replacing
Fiery the Dragon with
flaming meatballs.
I snort to myself while I creep through the darkened concrete hallways with a flaming
meatball swallowing half of my body.
If you’re going to steal a giant meatball costume, it’s best to act like you know what
you’re doing. And striding out of here with zero shame means two things—one, no one’s going to stop me, and two, even if they do, I’
m incognito.
It’s the perfect crime to counter the crime of killing Fiery.
I’m one turn away from the door that I left propped open for myself after hiding out in
the family bathroom after today’s game when voices drift toward me.
One male.
One female.
Neither is familiar, but as I get closer to my final turn, I realize the voices are
between me and my exit.
No biggie.
I got this.
I can stroll on by, flash a thumbs-up, pretend like I’m heading out to prank the
Fireballs at the team compound they’re all staying at, or to make a fast-food run for publicity.
Acting like I know what I’m doing inside this mascot costume is as easy as breathing. When you’ve seen thousands of baseball games in your lifetime, it’s not hard.
So I turn the corner.
And then I suck in a surprised breath, because that’s Brooks Elliott.
Oh. My. God.
Brooks Elliott.
The Fireballs’ newest acquisition. Like, so new he arrived yesterday. A mid-spring training acquisition, which is practically unheard of.
He plays third base, and he hits the ball like it’s evil incarnate and he’s an avenging
angel and it’s his job to send that evil into another dimension.
He could be the reason we legitimately have a shot at making it to the post-season.
And I am not going to hyperventilate like I did the last time I was face-to-face with a
baseball player.
Pretending to be a mascot?
I got this.
Talking to the players?

It’s like talking to the gods.

“Even before you were born, we belonged to each other, Vi,” I reminded her, trying to fight the desperation to grab on to her and hold her, because I could feel her slipping away from me more and more with each beat of my heart. “You were in your mom’s belly, but I still felt you in my heart. It was as if there was this invisible cord connecting your heart to mine. I can’t see it, but I feel it. Every damn day. You are mine.”“You’re right. I’ve always felt it too. I am yours. And you were supposed to be
mine. We were supposed to be each other’s firsts, Luca. First kiss. First touch. First everything. We promised we would be each other’s firsts. ‘Firsts and lasts,’ that’s what you said. I remember it as clear as if it were
yesterday. You swore that you would wait. That I was worth it. But you didn’t wait, did you, Luca? You gave all your firsts away to someone else.”

“I…” My throat closed up, making it impossible to speak, to tell her everything I needed to so I could fix this. Fix us and what I broke.

“You stole that from me, Luca.” Angry tears spilled from her eyes, and my heart shattered even more. “You gave away everything that was supposed to be mine. And you just expect me to be okay with that? I’ve waited my entire life to give you my firsts, but you have none to give to me.”

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice choked with emotions I was afraid to lose control of. If I let the tears free that were burning my eyes, I might flood the world.

“Sorry? You’re sorry?” Her laugh was hard and final, causing me to flinch. “Yeah. So am I.”

“What does that mean?” My throat felt like I’d swallowed broken glass, and I was surprised I didn’t spray blood on her with each exhale.

“It means I’m done. You tossed away your firsts like they meant nothing. So
mine are no longer yours.”

I hop out of bed. The stupid alarm didn’t go off! No time to figure out why; I need to get ready for work, pronto!
I take the fastest shower in history, then wrap my hair in a turban so the towel can absorb the water. Not for the first time, I thank my stars that I won the genetic hair jackpot. I put it on every morning and night. Looking my best is part of my new identity, and that means taking care of my skin, among other things.
Just as I finish patting the serum onto my face and put the bottle back in the fridge, the door to my apartment unlocks. Adrenaline spikes, making my heart race.
A burglar?
I dismiss the possibility as soon as it pops into my head. Who breaks into a place this early? It’s barely seven in the morning. Criminals would be doing it at night or when people are at work. Not to mention the apartment complex has a locked entry that requires you to have a key or be buzzed in.
It’s probably just Evie, my absentee roommate. She somehow got finagled into a Vegas marriage, but plans to move back in as soon as she manages to divorce her crazy boss-cum-husband. Hopefully she isn’t here for moral support, because I don’t have time to lend a shoulder right now.
The door opens, and a man in a black T-shirt and jeans walks in. A baseball cap is pressed low on his head, covering most of his face.
Oh God! It is a burglar!
Cold fear pounds through my heart. I freeze, clutching the towel in my fist as lurid crime headlines flash through my head.
Home Burglary Gone Wrong: Secretary Slaughtered.
Boyfriend Sexually Assaults His Ex.
Female Body Found, Assaulted.
Panic spikes. I have no weapon!
I take a fraction of a second to take stock of my situation. Can’t run back to the bedroom—the kitchen’s in a nook and the fridge is closer to the door. The scum’s going to get me—he has a straight path to grab me if I make a move back to the bedroom. What can I use as a weapon? A knife? I don’t know how to throw it right, so that’d be like handing it over. Jut slash at him? What if he knocks it out of my hand and uses it against me? Besides, a kitchen isn’t the best place to fight. I have a gas stove, and every action-flick kitchen fight ends with a gas explosion.
But there’s a dirty wine glass in the sink. Yes! I grab it and hurl it at the invader with a scream.
“Shit!” he says, flinching and raising an arm in reflexive defense.
To my shock and irritation, the glass doesn’t even hit him. It flies low and shatters on the wooden floor at his feet.
Damn it! It was my best chance at hurting the asshole, and I blew it! Should I just go for a knife anyway? I really wish I had a gun! Or a nice, large, intruder-fending-off boyfriend like Jo was saying yesterday.
“What the hell?” he demands.
Did he just say what the hell, like he’s shocked and upset?
“Kim?”
Wait, what? “How do you know…” Finally he looks up, and I see the still-gorgeous blue eyes and sexy mouth. The broad forehead and lean jaw line. Recognition hits me like a cast iron skillet in the face. “Wyatt? What are you doing here?” I demand, my terror turning into outrage.
“I live here.”
“No, you don’t! This is my apartment.”
“But the—”
“No!” I cut him off before he can make any excuses or weird explanations. He’ll probably say something asinine, like how he won this place on a bet, too.
My phone is charging on the small table by the couch. I’m calling the cops and getting this crazy bastard arrested. Getting a wedding date will be the least of his worries. Hopefully he’ll resist, so the cops will have a reason to rough him up. I’m not asking for blood—just some good, solid punches. Maybe a broken jaw.
Gritting my teeth, I come around the kitchen counter fast. Wyatt’s eyes widen—ha! Bet he wasn’t expecting that!—and he starts toward me.
Oh, crap! I leap for the phone, in my best grand jeté style, but he catches me with my toes still a few inches above the floor. His arms squeeze so tight that the air gets forced out of my lungs like ketchup from a squirt bottle.
Oh my God. He’s going to crush me until I pop.
“Let…me…go,” I wheeze, squirming and kicking, refusing to die like this.
But the muscles I’m straining against feel like bunched piano wire, and I make about as much progress against Wyatt as I would against a piece of heavy construction equipment. This close, he smells like fresh pine soap and laundry detergent, plus a hint of mint toothpaste on his breath. I should’ve taken up karate instead of ballet. Then I could’ve broken his nose and legs by now, and been inhaling the scent of his blood instead.
“Will you stop?” he says. “You’re about to cut your feet up.” He moves, and there’s a definite crunching noise from the floor.
The wine glass.
Wyatt carries me toward the sofa. “Damn it, Kim. The superintendent gave me the key to this place. I’m moving in today.”

Number one rule of ride sharing as a female driver? Don’t fall for the mysterious man riding in the backseat.Lenora

I came across crazy people on the daily giving rides to strangers for a living.
I carried pepper spray and I wasn’t afraid to use it. But one gorgeous male in a fake mustache and a story he wasn’t willing to share, and I was ready to climb in the backseat to peel his layers. He’s a distraction I don’t need as I graduate online college and try to get my first professional job so I can move
out of my parents’ house before I’m thirty. I’m so close to realizing my dreams I can taste it.

Jayden

I should have never hit on my driver. Even if she was the hottest thing I’d seen in cutoff jean shorts in maybe forever. I wasn’t in Auburn Hill for personal reasons and getting involved with the locals came ill-advised as I set up my new business. I probably shouldn’t know she curses like a sailor in bed considering I wind up interviewing her for a position in my company. Now I’m thinking of all kinds of positions I can put her in. Maybe she’ll settle for being an employee with benefits…
But none of that matters now.

Because I fired her.

In front of the whole town.

On her first day.
Pretty sure there’s no coming back from that.

“So you’re telling me that I’m sleeping with the guy who might be my potential boss, while
applying to be the head sex toy maker in some sort of twisted Santa’s workshop company in the small, conservative town I grew up in as the pastor’s daughter?”
Jayden’s lips twitched. I knew that look. It was his look when he found something hilarious, but was trying to act stoic. Usually it set my panties on fire, but not now. Not when I had such hopes and dreams for this job. Not when
the situation was so ridiculous it couldn’t be salvaged.
“Essentially, yes.”
I threw my hands in the air. “Oh, well, then in that case. Great. Sign me up.”
His eyes narrowed. “Are you being sarcastic?”
Mine narrowed right back at him. “Are you being purposefully obtuse?”
The lips twitched again. “That’s kind of my MO if you haven’t noticed.”
I sighed long and loud.
“Need a hug?” Jayden asked innocently.
I jumped to my aching feet. “No! I need a goddamn job!”
Jayden jumped up too, sending his chair flying into the wall behind him.
“Great! Run my company and I promise I’ll pay you extremely well.”
I grasped the top of my head with both hands. “You don’t get it. We’re sleeping together.”
Jayden came closer, the walk of those approaching a wild animal. “I know. And
it kind of freaks me out too, but I trust you, Nora. After last night I was thinking about what you said. How I overcame the issues with my ex, but really, I haven’t. I haven’t learned to trust again, but with you…well, I finally want to trust again.” His hands cupped my face and my knees went wobbling again for an entirely different reason.
“We’ll sign contracts and non-disclosures and all kinds of things to protect us both, but take this job, Nora.”
His gaze bore into mine, begging me to take the job and the man. More than anything I wanted to say yes and celebrate by peeling that suit off Jayden one piece at a time like a Christmas present. I mean, really, how perfect was this whole situation? I got a man who set my soul on fire AND a dream job marketing
a brand-new company?

RELEASE BLITZ – Jock Blocked (Copper Valley Fireballs #1) by Pippa Grant

Title: Jock Blocked

Series: Copper Valley Fireballs #1

Author: Pippa Grant
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 19, 2020
Blurb

EXCERPT

Mackenzie Montana, aka a woman on a mission

I never meant to become a criminal. But in the grand scheme of life, I don’t think I’m technically engaging in criminal behavior.
At least, if it is, you could call it a crime of passion.
And I am very passionate in my belief that while the Fireballs need to make changes to halt their record-breaking streak of being the worst losing team ever to play professional baseball, they don’t need to do it with a new mascot. Which is why I decided to take two weeks off work and fly to Florida for spring training, where I’m not saying that I’ve snuck into my home team’s ballpark after hours to steal the worst proposed mascot costume, but I’m not saying I haven’t either.
Meatballs?
They actually let a meatball make the final cut.
I needed at least another full season to get over the fact that the new Fireballs ownership killed the last mascot, and here they are, letting fans vote on replacing Fiery the Dragon with flaming meatballs.
I snort to myself while I creep through the darkened concrete hallways with a flaming meatball swallowing half of my body.
If you’re going to steal a giant meatball costume, it’s best to act like you know what you’re doing. And striding out of here with zero shame means two things—one, no one’s going to stop me, and two, even if they do, I’m incognito.
It’s the perfect crime to counter the crime of killing Fiery.
I’m one turn away from the door that I left propped open for myself after hiding out in the family bathroom after today’s game when voices drift toward me.
One male.
One female.
Neither is familiar, but as I get closer to my final turn, I realize the voices are between me and my exit.
No biggie.
I got this.
I can stroll on by, flash a thumbs-up, pretend like I’m heading out to prank the Fireballs at the team compound they’re all staying at, or to make a fast-food run for publicity.
He plays third base, and he hits the ball like it’s evil incarnate and he’s an avenging angel and it’s his job to send that evil into another dimension.
He could be the reason we legitimately have a shot at making it to the post-season.
And I am not going to hyperventilate like I did the last time I was face-to-face with a baseball player.
Pretending to be a mascot?
I got this.
Talking to the players?
It’s like talking to the gods.

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

OH MY BASEBALL GODS…… I love Pippa Grant and I adored MacKenzie & Brooks, they were both a little dorky in their own way, had big hearts, loved their families and had baseball in common – though Mac was just a tad more obsessional about the sport than Brooks…. Their initial meeting had me laughing hard and to be honest, I didn’t stop laughing for most of the book.

It was fab that they each what the other needed but didn’t realise and that their ‘relationship’ didn’t start off on the best footing…. though that added to the fun!

With crazy antics on the leads parts, madcap families, lot of great friends (who we all know and love from previous books), full-of-fun baseball team mates and a guest appearance by a favourite hockey team, JOCK BLOCKED was a fabulous read and another hit from Ms Grant!!!

I read this is a day – it would have been quicker if RL hadn’t kept interrupting… buy hey, what you gonna do??….go right back to the book of course!!!

Can I just say, those epilogues……. there were tears reading one… I admit it!!

A home run 5* laugh-a-lot read………

Chapter 1
Jamie

Five Years Later
Nine hours down.
Three to go.
Three hours until I can go home, finish that box of Thin Mints I shouldn’t have bought, and binge-watch a show on Netflix.
Netflix and cookies.
Netflix and single.
Netflix and story of my life.
“Tell me he finally agreed?” Lauren, our charge nurse, asks—referring to the appendicitis patient who’s been refusing an appendectomy all night.
I nod. “After his wife promised to buy him a new TV.”
She scoffs. “I’d love to say someone being bribed to have life-saving surgery is a shocker, but after working in the ER for so long, I’m not easily shooketh.”
“Tell me about it.” I glance around the emergency room. “What’s next for me?”
It’s been a slow night at Anchor Ridge Memorial Hospital, and as much as that’s a good thing, it can get boring.
She points down the hall. “Exam room three. Five-year-old with a fever.” Her tone turns bubbly as she wiggles her shoulders. “Dad is super hot, by the way.”
I shake my head and tap my knuckles against the triage desk. “I’ll let you know if I need
anything.”
“Ask him for his number,” she half-whispers with a thumbs-up.
I roll my eyes and dismissively wave my hand. “Absolutely not.”
“All work and no play makes Jamie a grumpy doctor.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” I spin on my heel and walk to the room.
The door is cracked, and I knock, snatching a pair of latex gloves on my way in.
“Hello, I’m Dr.—” I stop, stumble back two steps, and cover my mouth with my hand.
Holy crap.
My body tenses, and as soon as my gaze meets his, his jaw flexes.
I struggle for words as anger and disgust line his face.
Words I’d planned if this moment ever happened.
Unfortunately, those words become a scared
bitch and run away.
“Cohen,” is all I manage in a whisper.
He stands tall from his chair, his narrowed eyes pinned to me, and moves to the side of the bed, blocking my view of the patient.
Lauren’s words hit me.
“Five-year-old …”
My attention slides from Sir Pissed Off, and I shift to the left.
“Oh my God,” I whisper, gaping at the little boy in the bed.
A little boy whose eyes are sleepy and nose is red and irritated.
Those sleepy eyes, a walnut-brown with a slight slant, match his father’s.
The same with his thick ash-brown hair.
But the dimple in his chin and heart-shaped face match hers.
“Is this …?” My hand shakes when I point at him.
It’s a dumb question.
Even if he says no, he’ll be a liar.
“What are you doing here?” he repeats, his tone harsh.
If I wasn’t at a loss for words, my smart-ass self would throw out something along the lines of, What do you think, dumbass? I’m sporting a doctor’s jacket with my name embroidered on it.
But I don’t.
Because I can’t.
It’s a challenge, wrapping my head around them being here, let alone dragging out my sarcasm.
“I’m your doctor,” I finally say before signaling to the boy. “I’m his doctor.”
Sound cool. Confident.
You’re the fucking professional here, Jamie.
“We want a different doctor,” he hisses, his voice low enough so only I can hear.
“I’m the only doctor on shift tonight.” I’m
speaking to Cohen, but the boy holds my interest.
He’s watching this exchange, his eyes pinging back and forth between his father and me with curiosity on his tired face.
“We’ll go to another hospital then.”
“Why, Dad?” the boy whines, sniffling. “I don’t feel good, and what if I puke in the car?”
“I want another doctor.” His broad shoulders draw back.
He raises a brow when I hold up a finger, turn, and scurry out of the room.
I rush over to Lauren. “Can you watch the boy in three for a minute? I need to talk to his
father privately.”
She peeks up at me from her computer and tilts her head to the side. “Yeah … sure.”
Cohen is pacing the room when we walk in. “A word,” I say, jerking my head toward the doorway. Cohen’s attention darts to the boy, and he delivers a gentle smile. “I’ll be right back, buddy.” He gives him a quick peck on the head and swings his arm toward the door, his eyes cold. “After you, Your Highness.”
Lauren throws me a curious glance when he walks past her, and I shrug as if this isn’t about to be awkward city up in here.
As we leave, I hear Lauren asking the boy what his favorite cartoon is.
Cohen keeps his distance while I lead us into a private room, the one reserved for breaking bad news to families.
I speak as soon as I shut the door., “Cohen—”
Too bad he doesn’t let me get more than his name out.
Rude.
His deep-set eyes level on me. “This is a conflict of interest, Jamie. The nurse can help us. We don’t need you.”
“We don’t need you.”
The memories of the last time he said those words to me smack into me like a headache.
It was the last time I saw him.
The last time he looked at me with the same resentment.
Either he doesn’t realize how hard his insult hit me or he doesn’t care.
I snort, anger biting at me. “What do you think I’m going to do, huh? Kidnap him?”
“Considering who you’re related to, who knows?”
“Wow.” I clench my fists to hold myself back from smacking him in the face since his words are like a slap in mine. “You have some nerve.”
It’d make for some bad headlines if a doctor
slapped a patient’s father.
There’s no apology on his face when he holds up his hands. “Just saying it how I see it.”
“Then allow me to say it how I see it.” I thrust my finger toward the door. “You have a sick son in there, and it’s my job to treat him. Don’t like it? I don’t give a shit.” I shove past him, stalk out of the room, and don’t check to see if he’s following me.
“Everything okay?” Lauren asks, her eyes glancing over my shoulder, and I realize Cohen is behind me, still keeping his distance.
“Peachy,” I chirp before approaching the bed and smiling down at the boy. “What’s your name, honey?”
“Noah,” he croaks.
Even though I was sure it was him, my head spins at his confirmation.
I tenderly squeeze his arm, and my tone turns cheerful. “Hi, Noah. I’m Dr. Gentry. Can I ask some questions about how you’re feeling?”
He nods.
Cohen stalks to the other side of the bed, his eyes on me, and Lauren migrates to the corner, her nosy ass interested in this shitshow.
“He has a fever,” Cohen tells me, his tone softer.
“For how long?”
He scratches his scruffy cheek. “Over twenty-four hours.”
“Appetite?”
He shakes his head. “Not even sugar. I can hardly get him to drink, and he has no energy, which is very rare for him.”
“Cough?”
“Yes.”
His jerk attitude settles while we turn our attention to Noah. I ask question after question as I take his temperature and go through all the motions.
“Symptoms tell me it’s the flu,” I say, removing my gloves and tossing them into the trash.
“We’ll do a test, and I also want to run some blood work to make sure we’re not missing anything.”
Cohen nods. “Thank you.”
I smile at Noah. “We’ll get you back to feeling good in no time.” I give Lauren, who’s gathering supplies for the test, a head nod and leave the room.
I‘ll definitely be pairing wine with those Thin Mints tonight.
Lauren comes scurrying into the doctors’ lounge ten minutes later. “Whoa, what was that about? Dude was super nice to me but acted as if you’d pissed in his Cheerios.”
Here goes.
A chill sweeps up my neck. “That’s my sister’s ex … and her son … the ones she left.”
“Oh, Jerry Springer.”
