BLURB:

She thinks they’re a mistake

I’ve spent my whole life working toward my goals, being the best I can be at my job. Arrogant, persistent, pain in the skirt billionaire Colin Huntley isn’t going to change that, even if he is the hottest man I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. And pleasure is definitely something the man can deliver, without question. Our single, mind blowing night together was a mistake, though. A one-night stand brought on by a lapse in judgment. One I won’t make again, so long as I stay strong as he starts his chase. Because when Colin decides he wants something, he gets it. And he’s decided he wants me.

He always gets what he wants

Sloane McLaren may be the best VP I’ve ever had, but she taunts me every day in her tight little skirts and her librarian-fantasy glasses. Especially since that night. The one when I had her in my bed, in my shower, bent over my kitchen counter. I thought we were finally on the same page…until I woke up to cold sheets and an empty bed. She may assume it’s business as usual in the office, but I didn’t build my billion-dollar company on assumptions. I want her back in my bed, and I’m willing to play dirty to get her there.

Looking for something quick, filthy, and taboo with a guaranteed HEA and no cheating? London Hale and the couples of Temperance Falls deliver!

Portrait of handsome man in black suit

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Another visit to Temperance Falls with the London Hale ladies and, as ever, it was a lot of fun!

Colin Huntly and Sloane McLaren are boss and Operations VP and start out on a very professional level but after 6 months working closely together, and a couple of bottles of champagne, things change…. in all sorts of ways!

Bedding The Billionaire was a quick, smokin’ hot, sexfest of a read and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I liked the connection between these two, they were hot to trot in the bedroom but also got on really well fully clothed …. mind you, once they got close they couldn’t keep their hands off each other – in bed and out – and how they got any work done was a real mystery….

My only issue was that there wasn’t enough of this pair. I finished the story in a little over an hour and could have happily read more about them and would have loved to see how their future went with an epilogue!!

Another hit from the LH gals and I can’t wait for our next trip to the island!

I’m giving BTB 4*

Whenever I need a pick me up I know that a Fiona Davenport read will give me a quick, fun, dirty, hot read and that’s exactly what I got with My Father’s Rival

4* smuttily good stars!

EXCERPT

I stalked to my hog and got on, slamming my foot down on the kick starter. Scout’s engine revved and I looked jerkily in his direction. Bridget was sitting on the back of his bike, her slim arms wrapped around Scout’s torso. Even though Scout already had an old lady, something inside me howled in protest at the sight of her clinging to him. To anyone but me. It didn’t seem to matter that she was too fucking young for me. Too sweet and innocent.

“Fuck,” I muttered before yelling to be heard over the noise from the bikes, “Bridget! Get over here.”

Scout’s head pivoted, and he smirked at me before helping her off the seat. I scowled darkly, my eyes threatening retribution if he said even one fucking word. Bridget hesitated when she caught sight of my expression. I held out my hand and beckoned her forward with my fingers, softening my look so she wouldn’t be afraid.

I handed her a helmet and fastened the straps, tucking her red hair out of her face. “Hop on, baby,” I growled. “We need to get the fuck outta here.”

She climbed on and wrapped her arms around me tightly. Her tits pressed flush against my back, and I could feel her heart racing. I rarely let any woman ride with me but when I had, it had never felt this good. She fit me like a glove. Shaking my head, I tried to dispel the thoughts invading my mind and took off like a bat outta hell.

We reached the Silver Saints compound a little less than an hour later. Once inside the main garage, I shut off my bike and helped Bridget to her feet. As she swung her leg over, she lost her balance and went tumbling into my chest.

Son of a bitch. Riding with her wrapped around me had made me hard as fuck but when she was pressed against my front, I thought my dick was gonna burst through my damn jeans. She looked up at me with wide, deep blue eyes, her pink lips slightly parted, and her skin flushed. I could too easily imagine how she would look after being thoroughly fucked and I shoved her away quickly, trying to get some control.

I hadn’t kidnapped her to make her my play-thing. I didn’t roll that way—she was simply leverage for the swap. I had no intention of corrupting Pierce’s innocent little princess, no matter how tempting the idea was. The last thing I needed was to jeopardize the plan by getting involved with her. Besides, I reminded myself, she’s too damn young for you. I was old enough to be her motherfucking father.

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Burn in Hail (Hail Raisers #3) by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Burn in Hail

Series: Hail Raisers #3

Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: Romance Suspense
Release Date: November 15, 2017

“There is no shortage of danger and suspense in the lives of these badasses and I’m enjoying the hail out of getting to know them better.” – iScream Book Blog

“Yep I am totally hooked on this series.” – You Can’t Resista Dirty Book Blog

“Once again Lani Lynn Vale delivers a book that pulls you in from the very first page and doesn’t let you go!” – Britt Red Hatter Book Blog

One look at the sixteen-year-old, prim and proper town goody-two-shoes, Hennessy Hanes, and Tate Casey knows he’s in trouble. He knows he should stay away from the preacher’s daughter, but there’s something about her he’s drawn to, and he can’t resist the pull.

The more he gets to know her, the more he realizes that something isn’t right. He may not be able put his finger on what it is, but he’s determined to find out what’s going on with the girl with the haunted eyes.

Tate didn’t anticipate that someone else would be just as determined to keep Hennessy’s nightmare a secret, and he never realizes just how far that person is willing go to keep those skeletons in the closet until it’s too late.

With the very real threat of jail time hanging over his head, Tate leaves without a backwards glance at the town or the girl. The problem is that out-of-sight doesn’t necessarily mean out of mind, and it’s Tate who’s now haunted by his decision and memories of Hennessy.

***

Hennessy Hanes knows better than anyone that not everything is always as it appears to be. After years of being on the receiving end of her squeaky-clean preacher father’s abuse, she seizes an opportunity to leave it all behind and runs.

Her only regret is that in walking away she loses any chance with the one person who tried to save her.

***

Fast forward ten years, and they’re both back where they started.

Tate was never a good boy, and it turns out that the man he’s now grown into isn’t all that much better. Anger is a living, breathing part of him, and there’s a court order forcing him to seek help from the one person he’s never forgotten.

Hennessy never thought she’d see Tate Casey again, and certainly not on her couch. But now it’s her turn to save him, and there are rules she must follow as his psychologist, not to mention a court order instructing her to help him manage his anger. If she doesn’t follow those rules, he’ll end up back in jail.

Tate Casey has never been a man who followed the rules, and Hennessy is no longer the straight-laced, timid preacher’s daughter she once was.

His hands may be tied, so it looks like for the first time in Hennessy’s life, she’ll be the one breaking the rules for the chance to finally get what she’s always wanted. Him.

As ever, I devoured the latest release from Lani Lynn ValeBurn In Hail is the third book in the Hail Raisers series and was Tate and Hennessy’s story. Going by the blurb I knew I was gonna love this instalment as much as the previous ones and, for the most part, I did.

Here’s the things – and I’ve thought a lot about this since I finished reading yesterday – I usually love LLV’s main men but with Tate Casey I was kinda on the fence. I liked him for a fair bit of the book, especially when he was protecting and looking out for Hen, but there were points where – given what he thought he knew about Hennessy’s life growing up – he was just a little too alpha-asshole for me…. and gods, that pains me to admit!!

Hennessy was a good girl. She’s escaped an abusive father only to end up right back in the town she left but this time Tate (who she’s had a major thing for for over 10 years) was back and she was having to deal with him directly. I loved how her confidence finally grew and she started to worry less about the opinions of others, especially her double-standards, condescending, sanctimonious fecker of a parent.

Neither Tate nor Hennessy have had easy upbringings and how they turned their lives around and where they are now is all on them, they’ve dealt with the crap hands they’ve been dealt and have both come out the other side…. Could they do the same if they were to have a relationship, especially given the hostility towards him and the shock and disdain of the town that Hen would get if she was involved with Tate at all.

There was humour, heat, a bit of suspense and secrets abound in this one and we got a little catch up with the others guys from Hails Autos – including a couple of newbies!!! There were 3 supporting characters that I could have bumped off from the get go, man, they were detestable and that’s a nod to how well Lani wrote them and their actions.

So, not my favourite book of the series to date – sadly – but I cannot wait for more goings on in Hostel and from the Hail’s men.

Burn In Hail gets 3.9* on this occasion.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

A quick Christmas read from Celia Aaron that I enjoyed.

I must admit, there was a lot going on in such a short read and things between the leading couple went from ice cold to smokin’ in hardly any time at all but overall there was enough that kept me interested and reading.

A Cowboy For Christmas gets 3 stars from me!!

A sexy, standalone novel from the New York Times & USA TODAYbestselling author of the Play-by-Play series and Hope series.

Ellie Washington lost her husband in a tragedy five years ago at Christmas. She wouldn’t have made it through her grief if not for her husband’s brother, Nick, who helped her pick up the pieces of her shattered life. And with every year, her feelings for Nick have grown. Now she realizes she might be in love with him, but that’s not fair, because Nick deserves a life that isn’t about his brother’s widow and son.

Sharing his life with Ellie and her son has been the balm that soothed Nick’s soul after losing his brother. Now that friendship has turned into something deeper. Nick doesn’t want to upset the status quo, but someone has to make the first move, and it’s time they figure out if their feelings are real. Nick believes in what they have. He also believes in Christmas miracles, and he thinks they’re both long overdue for one.

Excerpt:

Chapter One

“Do you want me to bring the Christmas decorations down from the attic?”

Ellie Washington tensed. She hated this time of year. And even though it would be five years this holiday season, she still missed her husband, John.

She turned to John’s older brother, Nick, and forced a smile. “I guess. Sure.”

Nick leaned against the kitchen counter. In many ways he resembled John. Tall, lean, dark good looks. But John had been her sweet, button-down shirt and khaki pants nerd—a financial planner by trade who’d worn the same look at home.

Nick was a grease monkey, an auto mechanic who owned a shop a few miles from his house. He wore jeans and T-shirts that were often smudged and dirty. His black hair was always a bit too long, and his eyes were a sea blue, whereas John had had green eyes.

She missed John’s eyes, that way they used to crinkle at the corners when he laughed.

Still stuck in the past, Ellie. Five years later, you’re still thinking about John.

Time to move on.

She knew it, and yet she still felt…stuck. As if she couldn’t quite find that joy that used to be hers.

Especially at the holidays, which was always tough.

But this year was going to be different.

“Hey, Ellie. You listening?”

She blinked, lost in the memories. “Sorry. What?”

“I said I thought maybe we’d take Henry and get a tree this weekend.”

Her stomach knotted. John had died at Christmastime five years ago. Henry had been growing in her belly and they’d stood in front of the tree, John rubbing her belly bump and the two of them dreaming about the following year, when there would be a new baby in their house.

And then her husband had died and her life had gone to hell. It had taken her a long time to get over that, to be able to function again as a living, breathing human.

She thought she was doing pretty damn well at the functioning part. The living part? Maybe not so much.

Nick came over and pulled her against him. “You’re thinking about John.”

He always seemed to know her so well, knew her moods and even her reflective moments. That came from spending so much time together over the past five years.

She looked up at him. “Yes.”

He rubbed her back. “We can put off the tree and the decorations if you want.”

She pulled away. “Nope. We can’t. Henry loves Christmas. You love Christmas, probably even more than Henry does. I’ll get into it once all the decorations are up just like I always do.”

He tipped her chin back with his fingers. “Like you always do?”

She let her lips lift, just a little. “Okay, buddy. Maybe I’m not all that jolly this time of year, but I’m working on it.

And if she wasn’t all gung ho about Christmas, okay, so maybe she was still a work in progress there. Her husband had died in a fire on Christmas Eve when she’d been at work. John, exhausted and overworked, had fallen asleep. Faulty wiring had sparked a fire in their old house and he’d died from smoke inhalation.

“So…what do you think this year?” Nick asked. “A noble fir?”

She shook herself out of the bad memories. Bad memories were for the past, and she refused to live in the past anymore. “That sounds great.”

Nick picked up his phone. “We could go today. There’s still plenty of time before it gets dark.”

“Or we could wait until tomorrow.”

Nick cracked a smile. “Yeah, because why do something today we could do tomorrow instead? Especially something you don’t really want to do, right?”

He gave her that look that told her he knew her all too well. And of course he did.

“Maybe we could wait a few days?” She cast him a hopeful look.

He responded with his signature smile. “Sure.”

She wouldn’t let him see the relief that swept through her. Instead, she offered up a smile. “Thanks, Nick.”

“Hey, no big deal.”

“It is a big deal. You have no idea how much everything you’ve done for me, and for Henry, has meant to me.”

“Whoa. Where did that come from? And no thanks is necessary, Ellie. You’re family.”

Family. Yeah, that’s what they were to each other. But they were also so much more. At least now. Back then when John died, they’d been each other’s saviors.

She’d moved into his house five years ago. She’d had nowhere else to go. She didn’t have family. When she’d married John, his family had become her family. And after the fire, it had been Nick who’d taken her in and become her lifeline.

She hadn’t meant to stay at Nick’s house this long. But she’d been five months pregnant with Henry when John had died, and finding a new place to live had been impossible at that time. Then she’d given birth and Henry had been an infant and Nick had told her he had three bedrooms and there was no hurry.

His place was perfect, a one-story brick house near the hospital in St. Louis where she worked as a labor and delivery nurse. She’d settled in with Henry and had felt safe and comfortable.

Then safe and comfortable had become routine for all of them.

Now Henry was four and he loved his uncle Nick. He had his own room and Nick had wired model airplanes to soar on the ceiling. They’d painted the room a bright blue, and he had a four-drawer dresser and oversized wooden box that Nick had made for all of Henry’s toys, plus a nice twin bed next to the window that looked out over the huge backyard.

Her room was nice, too. It was spacious with a queen bed and a beautiful quilt plus a lovely sitting area where she could read. It had a connecting bathroom that she shared with Henry, which was perfect in case Henry wasn’t feeling well or she needed to check on him. It also gave her privacy and a separation from Nick, which Nick thought was important.

In the beginning she hadn’t been thinking much of anything other than basic survival. But after a while she’d seen its merits. Plus the room had a walk-in closet, which worked perfect for her. Not that she had a lot of clothes. She had her scrubs, her jeans, and basic tops. It wasn’t like she went out on dates or anything.

Ugh. Dates. Just the thought of it, of going out with anyone who wasn’t Nick…

Not that she was going to go out on a date with Nick. Because he’d never asked her. Not that she hadn’t thought about it once or twice or a hundred times in the past year or two.

The change had been subtle. First, he’d been her brother-in-law and nothing more. And then, there were these chemical signals, like running into him in the hall while he wasn’t wearing a shirt, and she found her gaze lingering. At the time, she’d thought she should probably look away. Only she hadn’t looked away.

It was at that point she’d realized she needed to start living again. She’d noticed Nick as a man. A hot, living, breathing man. It was time.

“Let’s go out tonight.”

She blinked, feeling like she’d been caught fantasizing about Nick. Had she been staring at him? She wasn’t sure. She looked over at him. “What?”

“Henry mentioned pizza before I dropped him off at Oscar’s for his playdate. What do you think?”

“About?”

Nick cocked his head to the side and smirked. “Pizza, Ellie.”

Shake it off, Ellie.

She cocked her head to the side and gave Nick the once-over. Despite the hotness factor, of which he had an ample amount, the dude was looking a little shaggy.

“You need a haircut.”

He dragged his fingers through the unruly thickness of his dark hair. “No, I don’t.”

“Yes, you do. If it gets any longer, I’ll be able to put it up with one of my ponytail holders.”

“Bullshit. It’s not that long.”

“It is, too. At least a trim.”

“We have to go pick up Henry.”

She lifted her phone out of her pocket to check the time. “Not for another half hour, which gives me plenty of time to trim your hair.”

“I hate haircuts.”

“I know. But you can let me trim it, then we’ll go get pizza. Now sit.”

He sighed. “Is this a torture/reward kind of thing?”

She shrugged. “If you want to look at it like that, fine. But you’re getting a haircut, and then we’ll get pizza.”

“Fine. But not too short.”

She smiled as she went to one of the drawers in the kitchen to pull out her hair-cutting scissors. “Of course not. I wouldn’t want to ruin your rock star good looks.”

He’d taken a seat at the kitchen table, so he tilted his head back until she could see the twinkle in his eyes. “So…you think I look like a rock star, huh?”

She grabbed a kitchen towel and draped it over his shoulders. “Yes. Shaggy and unkempt.”

She dragged her fingers through the thick softness of his hair, and for a moment she wanted to linger. The thought of it gave her pause.

She’d cut Nick’s hair countless times and not once had she ever thought about how it felt in her hands. The softness of it, or how her fingers tingled as she sifted the strands through them.

Softness? Tingles?

She paused. What was that all about?

“Don’t cut too much. Seriously. I hate short haircuts.”

Her lips curved. “You know, for a guy who never complains about anything, you sure are picky about your hair.”

“My hair is magic, Ellie.”

She rolled her eyes. “Right. And I have unicorn eyelashes.”

He tilted his head back and looked at her face. “I knew there was something special about those long lashes of yours. Bet your hair is made from pixie dust, too, isn’t it?”

He picked up a strand of her hair and sifted it through his fingers, and maybe he lingered just a little longer than was usual when he teased her.

She felt that zing of attraction.

This flirting was killing her. Or was she reading something into it that wasn’t there?

Yeah, she definitely had to shake it off.

“And here I thought maybe it was your hair that was made of pixie dust, the way you fuss over it.”

He laughed and the deep, gravelly sound of it shot right through all the feminine parts of her that had lain dormant for the past five years.

“No way. My hair is made from ancient Thor and Hulk follicles.”

She paused and stepped around to stare at him. “Yeah? And where do you find those?”

“eBay.”

She snorted out a laugh, then went back to focusing on the task at hand.

“I like you better with your hair a little longer,” she said.

He tilted his head back and gave her that signature smile of his, the one where one side of his mouth lifted. “Aha. See? You do think I look like a rock star.”

Now it was her turn to laugh. “I didn’t say that.”

“You didn’t have to.”

She shook her head and finished the trim, then grabbed the comb, though it wouldn’t do any good. Nick’s hair just fell naturally into place whichever way it wanted to. And typically whatever way it wanted to fall was still pretty darned hot.

“Done.”

He got up and shook his head. “Thanks. And you’re right. It does feel better having a little of that length cut away.”

“Plus you look much better.” She swept some of the hair away from his face, her body once again tingling in response to touching him.

What. The. Hell. Is. Going. On. With. You. Ellie?

She had no idea, but she quickly snatched her hand away. “Yup. Looks fine.”

“Good. I’m gonna go shower and wash away the motor oil smell from work today. Then we’ll head out.”

She wouldn’t tell him she liked that motor oil smell on him. He’d think it was weird. Or kinky. Or something.

Oh, my God what is wrong with you? Now you’re turned on by his motor oil scent?

She was most definitely not turned on. His scent was just familiar to her, which made Nick comfortable to her.

Not hot or sexy or anything.

Stop thinking about Nick like that.

When he left, she exhaled, exhausted by her body’s responses and her utterly bizarre thoughts. She grabbed the broom to sweep up the hair on the floor. After she finished, she went into her bathroom to check herself in the mirror.

Her face was flushed, and since it was early December, it wasn’t because of the heat. She washed her face, then brushed her hair. On impulse, she applied makeup and lip gloss, realizing as soon as she’d done it that it was ridiculous because she never thought about those things when she was hanging out with her son and with Nick.

So why are you doing it now?

She had no answer for that, but since she’d already done it, there was no undoing it.

It was just pizza night with Nick and Henry and nothing more. As for her reactions to Nick, well, she had no answers for what had happened.

Maybe it was time to start thinking about herself as a woman again. And maybe her body was pushing her in that direction.

But not with Nick. Nick was John’s brother. And her friend. Her lifesaver.

And something—anything—with Nick could never happen.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Man, what a really great read. Love Me By Christmas was a fab addition to my holiday reading list. I have to admit that when I thought about the number of books Jaci Burton has written I was surprised that I’ve never ready anything by her before, that’s something I’ll remedy in the future!

I loved the connection between Ellie and Nick, the main characters in the story.
Brother and sister in law who, along with Ellie’s son Henry, have lived in the same house for five years following the tragic and heartbreaking death of Ellie’s husband, John. Through this time they have formed their own little family without even really thinking about it.
As they both begin to realise that they’re thinking about each other in ways more than that of in-laws, Ellie panics and tries to set Nick up with someone to get him to live again himself, feeling that she shouldn’t want to be with him or have feelings for him…. those interactions between Nick and the ‘dates/hookups’ had me laughing and I was glad he stood up against what Ellie was trying to do. Nick knows what he wants and he’s determined to get Ellie to face what’s happening between them and admit she feels the same way he does.

My biggest issue with Ellie is her to’ing and fro’ing when it came to Nick and a relationship… It’s been five years since she lost John and it’s time she started living again and who better than the guy she trusts and cares deeply about that right there?
Nick was a sweetheart. His devotion to Ellie and love for Henry – who he’s been pretty much a father to since he was born – was obvious in everything he did for them.

I loved Fran, Ellie’s friend, her bluntness and honesty when it came to how she thought Ellie should deal with things was one of my favourite parts of the book. Everyone needs that kinda friend who won’t just tell you what you want to hear, but gives you her honest advice with your best interests at heart!!

A heartwarming, fun, engaging holiday read that I’d definitely recommend.

4 well deserved stars.

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Can’t Miss Christmas by Miranda Liasson

When a children’s book author’s only chance to get home for Christmas lies in a road trip with her sexy ex-husband anything can happen, naughty or nice. Unwrap this Christmas novella from Amazon best-selling author Miranda Liasson, CAN’T MISS CHRISTMAS…

About CAN’T MISS CHRISTMAS

Finding love again is the best Christmas present of all.

It’s two days before Christmas and bestselling children’s author Grace Alberts needs to fulfill a promise—to make it to a book signing for the kids at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the place that did so much for her during a very rough time. But the weather’s getting awful and all flights are cancelled out of Boston, where she’s wrapping up her book tour. Then in walks her annoying but extremely sexy ex-husband, who (as usual) thinks he’s got all the answers.

Graham Walker just stopped by to get a book signed for Grace’s biggest fan, his niece, and wish Grace a Merry Christmas—why not? But he soon finds himself troubleshooting her dilemma. He’s got a Range Rover that can plow through a hundred-year Nor’easter. He’s even headed home to Philly. Trouble is, Grace’s and his past is a disaster, something he has no intention of reliving while driving through a winter storm, no matter how much he once loved her. And maybe still does.

Bad weather has a way of bringing out the best and the worst in people, and when a run in with some deer antlers leads them to a forced stop in Mirror Lake, Connecticut, anything can happen, naughty or nice. Maybe a bit of enforced alone time and some Christmas magic can be just what it takes for them to face their past—and each other—once and for all.

Excerpt:

As soon he could, Graham exited the highway and stopped at a convenience mart for gas. It was a relief having something to do. If he didn’t stop reacting to Grace—his whole body on alert, his pulse pounding, his imagination racing to places it had no business going—well, it was going to be a very long trip.

“I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” blared from a speaker as Graham filled the tank. He turned up the collar on his coat, wishing he had on more comfortable clothes for the long drive.

He wished everything was more comfortable on this crazy drive. When he walked into the store, Grace was buying pretzels and a coffee. He got a coffee too, and paid for her things before she could protest. At the last second, he asked for a couple of lottery tickets, an instant scratch-off game and one of the daily numbers tickets.

“You still buy those?” she asked from her spot in front of him in line.

He used to buy them all the time. He hadn’t, though, since those days when they were broke and poor and winning would mean a ticket to a new life.

But today was…different. He’d bought it on impulse, maybe as a talisman for luck. To survive the drive intact. Or more than that. Something deep down inside made him buy it because it reminded him of the old days.

When they were broke. When all they had was a mattress on the floor and an old steel shelf from his dad’s garage where they kept their underwear and socks. When dreaming of winning the lottery brought visions of a less dumpy apartment, furniture, a car.

Those had been the happiest times of his life. They’d been so in love. They’d had everything and never even knew it. But of course he couldn’t say any of that.

“You sure you’re not hungry?” he asked. “It’s a five-hour drive in good weather.”

She looked hungry. He knew her well enough he could tell. She was a little pale, a trace of dark circles under her eyes. Or maybe she was like him, too nervous and keyed up to think about food. “We can stop and get something after we’re on the road for a while. Does that sound good?” he asked.

“I thought you hated to make stops,” she said, her mouth pulling up in a smile. “When we were married, I used to have to barter for pee breaks.”

“Maybe I’ve learned to be a little less…”

“Anal?”

“Ha ha. In all fairness, I recall several road trips where we made plenty of stops at rest areas but never got out of the car.”

That made her blush.

“We were young,” she said, clearing her throat. Their eyes met, and he could swear he saw a piece of the same heartbreak that was currently wreaking havoc with his entire body.

“We’re still young,” he said, his frustration coming through a little. It was just that they were acting like a pair of eighty-year-olds reminiscing over times that were gone forever.

They could still create good times.

Oh hell. There he went again. It had taken him so long to get over her. Longer yet to even look at another woman. And here he was, two years later, after just thirty minutes in her presence, fantasizing about everything he’d worked so hard to leave behind. Old habits died hard.

When the clerk handed him the lottery tickets, he pocketed the daily number one for later and handed the scratch-off one to Grace. Another old habit.

She looked at him and then the ticket and frowned. “You want me to scratch off the numbers?”

He nodded.

“You’re crazy,” she said.

“For old times’ sake,” he said. “Well, why not? We may as well start this journey off on the right foot.”

She rolled her eyes, but for a heartbeat, something flickered in her eyes. He wasn’t sure, but maybe she’d been touched a little by the corny gesture.

“Oh, all right,” she said, using her nail to scratch off the numbers.

“We didn’t win,” he said, looking over her shoulder. Of course they hadn’t. They’d both lost, badly, a long time ago. Except that had nothing to do with a lottery ticket.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I love a good second chance romance and Can’t Miss Christmas was up there for me – I mean, c’mon, another shot at love AND Christmas, how could I resist that?!

This is a story of a couple in love who lost their way and for multiple reasons weren’t able to get back to each other. Their meeting up again was a spur of the moment thing when Graham Walker decided to get a book signed by Grace Alberts (who just happens to be his ex-wife) when he’s passing a bookstore where she is currently signing books for her young fans….

They haven’t seen each other in a while but the attraction and connection is still there even though they’ve gone their own way and both still feel hurt from their past actions. Watching them realise what they had, what they lost and realising that there could still be a way forward for them was heartwarming and I was engaged from start to finish.

I haven’t read the Mirror Lake books by Miranda Liasson but after meeting some of the characters from that series in this book I’m definitely gonna be checking out the back catalogue and catching up with the residents in the small town!

A definite 4* read for me.

Excerpt:

J.C. looked incredibly handsome in a shepherd’s coat, jeans and boots, with snow dusting his thick, black, uncovered hair.

“You never wear a hat,” Colie mused, trying not to let her hands tremble as she took the coat to hang up for him. He was so tall that she had to stand on her tiptoes to pull it back off his shoulders.

“I hate hats,” he remarked. He glanced at her as she put the coat on the rack in the hall, his pale gray eyes narrow and appraising on her slender, sexy body. She dressed like a lady, but he knew all about women who put on their best behavior around company. She was just out of school; college, he was certain, because she had to be at least twenty-two or twenty-three. Catelow had several thousand people, and J.C. didn’t mix with them. He only knew what Rodney told him about his sister. And that wasn’t much.

“I noticed,” Colie said as she turned, smiling.

His eyes flickered down to her pert breasts and he fought down a raging hunger that he hadn’t felt in a long time. He had women, but this one stirred him in a different way. He couldn’t explain how, exactly. It irritated him and he scowled.

“It wasn’t a complaint,” Colie added quickly, not understanding the scowl.

He shrugged. “No problem. What are we eating?”

“Leftover turkey with cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, salad and apple pie.” She hesitated, insecure. “Is that okay?”

He smiled, his perfect white teeth visible under chiseled, sensuous lips. “It’s great. I love turkey.” He chuckled. “I like chicken, too, although I usually get mine in a bucket.”

Her eyes widened. “You put it in a pail, like you milk cows with?” she asked, shocked.

He glowered at her. “There’s this chicken place. They sell you chicken and biscuits and sides…”

She went red as fire. “Oh, gosh, sorry, wasn’t thinking,” she stammered. “Let’s go in! Daddy’s already at the table.”

Rodney went ahead, but J.C. slid a long finger inside the back of Colie’s sweater and gently stopped her. He moved forward, so that she could feel the heat and power of him at her back in a way that made her heart run wild, her knees shiver. “I was teasing,” he whispered right next to her ear. His lips brushed it.

Her intake of breath was visible. Her whole body felt shaky.

His big hands caught her shoulders and held her there while his lips traveled down the side of her throat in a lazy, whispery caress that caused her to melt inside.

“Do you like movies?” he whispered.

“Well, yes…”

“There’s a new comedy at the theater Saturday. Go with me. We’ll have supper at the fish place on the way.”

She turned, shocked. “You…you want to go out with me?” she asked, her green eyes wide and full of delight.

He smiled slowly. “Yes. I want to go out with you.”

“Saturday?”

He nodded.

“What time?”

“We’ll leave about five.”

“That would be lovely,” she said, drowning in his eyes, on fire with the joy he’d just kindled in her with the unexpected invitation.

“Lovely,” he murmured, but he was looking at her mouth.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

** spoiler alert **

Normally if I can’t rate a book a 3 or above I bypass leaving a review but in this case I couldn’t walk away from Wyoming Winter without saying something..

I can’t, I just can’t rate this book….. It so sounded like my kinda read but the blurb and the actual story don’t really match (in my opinion). There were so many things about this book that I didn’t like but to list them would take an eBook of it’s own and pretty much be all spoilers… so I’m gonna just quickly sum up my thoughts

The ‘hero’ JC wasn’t a hero, he was a douchebag who bumped his gal without giving her a chance to explain. For someone who claimed that he knew a lie when he heard it – ‘cos he was in the police force for 2 years when he was younger – he swallowed the biggest bloody lie he’d ever been told (by someone that he knew himself was a barefaced liar) and then he went back for seconds!! Even when the reason behind JCs lack of trust and belief in other people was revealed I couldn’t feel any kind of sympathy for him as his childhood story just seemed way too OTT and unbelievable.

Colie (the MF) just annoyed the ever-loving crap out of me… she did stuff without considering the consequences, didn’t speak up when she should and could have – which would have saved a lot of people a lot of pain…. What happened and how things progressed when she moved away was just WTF???? in fact I have to admit that I found myself saying ‘for f*cks sake’ A LOT when I was reading – and when I say reading, I mean kinda skimming through ‘cos I was losing the will to read – there were just way too many WTF moments for me to deal with – and let’s not forget the so so many repetitive thoughts and/or explanations; some of them read like they were being brought up for the first time when we’d already been given the info/facts more than once. The writing in the chapters jumped about too much for me too, at points we were reading from Colie’s POV and then JC’s but with barely any indication that we had changed character or location.

I didn’t feel any kinda connection between JC and Colie. From what we read, when they were together at the start of the book sex was not good for her and it sounded like whenever they got ti one he was just getting his rocks off and had no concern for her needs or feelings!
The daughter, she’s 2….. but gods, from what she said and did she sounded like she was 22 – when she was talking, full coherent sentences and I just, ugh…. I couldn’t go with what I was reading. I love, love, love to read and more often than not you have to suspend belief and go with things that are a little beyond possibility but this was just too much.

This was my first Diana Palmer read and unfortunately, it will be my last.

Contains mature themes.

BLP Review  ~ Tracy

The Christmas Cowboy Hero was a good read. From this starting point in a new series I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next from Donna Grant in the Heart of Texas books.

With the leading couple coming from different family experiences, this book had a real element of belonging and being and feeling wanted to it along with some action, suspense and intrigue. Clayton has returned home when all he wanted to do, for a few reasons, was stay away and live his life, he’s not looking for a relationship or anyone to love and he’s not sure he’s gonna be staying at his folks ranch for long.
Abby has been sister and mom to her two younger brothers since their mother bailed and left them to raise themselves. She’s brave, working hard to provide for her siblings while studying and trying to keep her brothers in school, keep them out of trouble and focusing on a better future for them all. She doesn’t have time or thought about starting seeing anyone as her sole focus is her little family and their happiness and security.

The initial meeting between the pair wasn’t the best as Abby’s younger brother has been arrested for stealing cattle from Clayton’s family ranch. Things begin to change for them both when their pre-conceived ideas and notions about the other are knocked for six once they spend time together and start to get to know each other.

I loved Clayton’s folks and their reaction to and reception of Abby and her brothers. Watching the pair fall and begin to care for each other made for good reading and I was rooting for them to find their HEA.

A good 4* read.
