BLOG TOUR ~ Keeping 6 (Rock Point #1) by Freya Barker

Title: Keeping 6

Series: Rock Point Series #1

Author: Freya Barker

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: May 2, 2018

Bookstore owner Kerry Emerson finally seems to be back in control of her life. Her failure of a marriage firmly in her rearview mirror and her recent business expansion a success, she is in charge of her own future. One that is looking better than ever.

The sight of the tall man, with the familiar salt and pepper goatee pushing open the door of her store, sets her hair on end. He doesn’t exactly bring good memories.

FBI Special Agent in Charge, Damian Gomez, is just looking for a decent cup of coffee when he walks into the small store offering books and brew. The pretty, feisty woman behind the counter is an unexpected surprise. Not at all unpleasant, especially since her finger that used to hold a wedding ring is now bare.

Her wild hair, boho style and silvery grey eyes suddenly hold a lot of promise. But when his office is pulled into an international investigation into the trafficking of rare books and manuscripts, the straight-laced SAC realizes he has to keep his distance from the woman who might well be involved.

Easier said than done, since fate seems determined to throw them together.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Freya Barker‘s and have been since her very first book…. Her writing, characters, storylines, attention to detail and descriptions of the story locations all combine to give excellent reads with relatable leads.

Keeping 6 is the first book in the new Rock Point series (which I’ve been looking forward to since Ms B mentioned it!!) and for me was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

I love that the MCs are that little bit older, that they are flawed and, in the leading man’s case, possessive and protective from the get go. We had met Damian in previous books in another series and, while I wasn’t sure I was gonna be a fan of him from what we’d seen before, he definitely won me over in his own story!
I enjoy the strength, character, snark and sass of Freya’s ladies but for some reason it took me just a little to warm to Kerry – admittedly it wasn’t for long and I did get there (I still can’t quite put my finger on why it happened this time around), but it was an unusual feeling to say the least!!

Loads of action, heat, attraction, great supporting characters who I hope we meet again in the future, Keeping 6 was a great start to this new series and I’m looking forward to more from Ms B!!

If you haven’t already experienced the joy of reading a book by Freya, this is a good place to start though I’d recommend that you go back to the start and begin with the Cedar Tree series to fully appreciate the characters we meet and the setting of the story in Keeping 6.

A rock solid 4.5* read for me!

Peter Parker Penn.

Unlike the superhero his mother named him after, Parker is no good guy.

In fact, if there’s a picture in the dictionary under anti-hero, it’s his.

Parker’s spent his life trying to get back on the right side of the tracks, but each step he takes forward, he takes two more steps back.

To save one, he hurts others. To make this good, he turns that bad.

For appearances’ sake, he plays the part. He does what people expect him to do—mostly. And at the end of each day, he goes back to his lonely apartment and wishes he was a different person. One who could fix the things he’s broken.

Then Kayla Nash forces her way into his life, and the world as he knows it is irrevocably changed.

Everything he thinks he has right is wrong. And everything he thinks is wrong is oh, so right.

One thing leads to another, and suddenly he’s growing a conscience, and trying to prove to her that he’s as bad as everybody says he is.

Yet she won’t listen.

She’s convinced that she can save him.

Little does she know, Parker isn’t worth saving, and never will be.

It’s not a secret that I love Lani Lynn Vale‘s books and this is especially true of this latest series!!

Maybe Don’t Wanna was a fab read and a great addition to The Simple Man series.

I FLOVED Parker & Kayla. Parker hadn’t been the best of people growing up…. in with the wrong crowd, caught up in gang crime, he was on his way to a life in jail until he had a chance to turn his life around and that’s just what he did. He was his own worst critic and most others around him didn’t bother to find out more than what they thought they knew!!

Kayla had no filter, talked a mile a minute and was forever asking questions but she also had a big heart, was loyal to a fault and saw who Parker really was!!

Peter Parker Penn was actually a good guy and I’m glad that Kayla entered his life and opened his own eyes to just who he was!

There was an interesting side story that kinda involved our couple but didn’t overwhelm their story. Kinda Don’t Wanna was slightly different from other reads of LLVs I thought in so much that, although we came across a few of our favourite characters while reading, the majority of the book was about PPP and Kayla and their evolving relationship. They were very similar in some ways and both brought out the best in the other.

Their connection was intense, they were smoking hot together and their conversations had me laughing at points.
Along with a little suspense, a fabulous ex-service dog in Carmen and a great epilogue, KDW was an easy, entertaining and fun read – I hardly put my kindle down as I was hooked by this pair.

Book 2 in this series gets a solid 4.5* rating from me!!

Excerpt:

Confident I no longer look like a cave troll, I grab my keys and wallet and rush downstairs. Elio is just turning the sign in the window when I virtually slam my body against it because I was running full-tilt down the stairs, and I can’t slow my velocity. He gives a startled laugh, and I flame bright red.

Elio abandons his ‘closed sign and opens the door.“Hey.”

“Hi. Sorry about that.”

“Couldn’t wait to see me, huh?” His eyes burn with mischief. I blush and desire arcs through me, because really, it should be illegal for anyone to look that delicious in jeans and a T-shirt with a dishtowel slung over his shoulder.

“Ha! Yeah.” I shake my head.“I mean no. I mean, Coffee. I’m lagging. Please, I’m really sorry. I know you’re closed and you wanna get home, and why wouldn’t you? It’s not like you want to stay at the shop all day when there’s wine to drink and cheese to nibble and classic books to read.”

He frowns.“That’s your impression of me? That I nibble cheese while reading classic literature.”

“And the wine,” my mouth supplies unhelpfully.

He chuckles.“You may need a crash course in what men do after work. Here’s a hint: it’s not nibbling anything. Unless, of course, it comes to ear lobes.”

Oh, wow. Okay. I would definitely prefer that to an expensive gouda.

He grins.“Come on. I’ll do you better than just a coffee.”

“Excuse me?” I squeak.

Now he laughs outright.“Relax, Romy. My nonna is here, my sister too, and a bossy four-year-old. I promise, I won’t bite.”

Not even if I want you to?

“Freya’s unmatched storytelling leads the reader up a mountain of suspense and intrigue. Dangers lurk as the cast of characters, both main and secondary, along with the readers, are consumed in the mystery of what’s to come. Damian

“You?”

My head whips around at the sound of a woman’s voice.

It’s been a long-ass morning already with meetings I would’ve loved to have avoided. Since being put in charge of the Durango field office, it seems I spend more time in meetings than working in the field. I swear each week there are new task forces put together, and I can barely keep up. I stepped out of the office for a much-needed break to find that the coffee shop around the corner had a sign plastered on the door stating they were closed due to a family emergency. Desperate for my caffeine fix, I kept walking and bumped into Kerry’s Korner: Books & Brew. Something about the name is familiar. I push the door, which opens with the ring of a bell, when I hear her voice.

She’s pretty. The woman behind the counter looks like a seventies flower child, with wild, dirty blonde hair, some kind of flowy top leaving her collarbones and a goodly amount of cleavage exposed, and a pixie face. Something about her is familiar, and it appears she knows me, too. Fuck if I can’t place her.

“Got me at a disadvantage, sweets,” I tell her with a shrug.

“You’re FBI,” she says, propping her hands on her nicely rounded hips. “I remember you.”

I look at her a little closer. Not a hardship, there’s a lot to check out. Those pale gray eyes trigger a memory. “You’re Kimeo’s girl,” I say, remembering the case a few years ago when I first saw her for the briefest of moments. A case long since put to rest, but not before this woman was snatched and roughed up before we got to her. We’d been called in by Gus Flemming, a friend of mine who owns an investigation and security company in Cedar Tree. Kimeo, the wife of one of Gus’s guys, found herself in the middle of shady land deals and this woman, her best friend, had been kidnapped to ensure her silence. I may not have remembered her name until I saw her standing behind the counter of Kerry’s Korner, but I sure as hell remember her. I also remember the wedding ring on her finger, which is why I didn’t bother looking twice at the time.

The hands resting on her hips no longer sport that wedding ring, just a large knuckle ring on the middle finger of her left hand as a sort of fuck you to the world. I bet she flips that bird easily, judging by the attitude she throws off. I like it.

“Kerry,” she says, almost as a challenge.

“Right. You look better now,” I tell her, making her snort loudly.

“No shit. I’d just been used as a punching bag when you found me and shoved me into the back of a van without a word.” Yup, most definitely a challenge. She doesn’t like me much, I deduct from the slightly distasteful look on her face.

“Was a little preoccupied with my investigation. Sorry if I didn’t take the time to make nice.” Fuck me, I sound like a dick. Something about her attitude grates on me, especially when she rolls her eyes dramatically before placing her hands on the counter in front of her and leaning over.

“Damian. Right?” She doesn’t wait for my confirmation before she continues, “Well, Damian, what brings you to my bookstore?”

“Coffee. Straight up,” I tell her without blinking. She turns her back without a word and starts fiddling with the expensive-looking machine on the sideboard, and I take the opportunity to check out her backside. “Double shot?” she asks over her shoulder, catching me ogling.

“Good guess.” I smile at her, which only earns me another eye roll. Attitude in spades, this one. As much as it irritates me, it somehow turns me on, too.

She’s late thirties, maybe forty, if I had to venture a guess from the lines around her eyes. She obviously laughs a lot—something I wouldn’t mind hearing. I have a feeling with that slightly raspy voice of hers, her laugh will sound even sexier. She’s not wearing a stitch of makeup from what I can tell and seems totally at ease in her skin. Not usually the kind of woman I find myself drawn to, but this one has an appeal all her own. Most women I end up with are well put together: stacked, sweet, and sultry. Just the way I like them. This one, though? This one is like the fucking girl next door. Fresh-faced, with a hippy vibe, barely enough tit to fill my hands, but an ass that should be framed, it’s that lush. Always considered myself a boob man, until I just got an eyeful of her backside.

While she doctors the elaborate coffee machine, I take the time to check out her shop. An older building, it has an old-fashioned facade with shallow bay windows, displaying an assortment of books, framing the door. Old wood floors that have been left bare to the wear and tear of foot traffic, resulting in a well-worn look more suited to an old saloon. Rows of rugged bookcases, jutting out from the back wall, with chalkboard display signs indicating the different genres. The counter is on one side in front of the window and on the opposite side, in front of the second bay window, is a small seating arrangement with an old, brown leather couch and two club chairs around a small, round coffee table. On the counter is a large, round, glass cake stand with pastries.

“Here you go. Anything else with that? A pastry to sweeten you up a bit or perhaps a book on appropriate social behavior? I have both.” I can’t stop the smirk tugging at my mouth. This one’s a handful, for sure. Too much of one. I pull out my wallet and slap a couple of dollar bills on the counter.

“Nah,” I drawl. “Not the kind of sweet I’m looking for, and as for the book, I’ll just wait until you get done with it. You’re probably due for a reread.” I snag my coffee off the counter, and with a wink, I saunter out the door, leaving her standing with her mouth hanging open and fire shooting from those pretty gray eyes.

Synopsis:

JORDAN

He took me in when I had nowhere else to go.

He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn’t treat me like I’m nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe.

He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.

I have to stop this. It can’t happen.

My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable.

Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one.

I am.

PIKE

I took her in, because I thought I was helping.

She’d cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement.

As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.

The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she’s becoming a part of me.

But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.

And her boyfriend’s father.

Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.

*BIRTHDAY GIRL is a stand-alone, contemporary romance suitable for ages 18+.

My Review:

I started reading this book at 0200 this morning, had to catch a few hours sleep and then read devoured the rest of Pike & Jordan’s story at every opportunity while at work…….

My overwhelming feeling is still FUUUUCK!!!! I ADORED this book…. going in I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but hells bells, it was everything you’d want from a Penelope Douglas book and so much more!

I wanted this pair together from their first meeting, then when Jordan and Cole moved into his dad’s home I desperately wanted him to mess up so much that Pike and Jordan would have a chance, because together they were fanbloodytastic!

This books pulled at all of my emotions. It made me smile, laugh, twisted my heart, had my stomach in damned knots – I wanted things to work in their favour soooo much it hurt at points – and I’m not afraid to admit that it made me cry (thankfully not big ugly snot tears – ‘cos as I said I read a lot at work – but the waterworks did start!). This book was hot as Hades, the connection and attraction between Jordan & Pike was palpable and even though there was a 19 year age gap, at no time did their interactions or relationship make me feel uncomfortable!

Well written as ever, with a great supporting cast – I loved Cam and Shel while I could have happily obliterated Pike’s ex (Cole’s mom).  Birthday Girl was so very different from what we’re used to from Penelope but it’s a fantastic read and one I definitely recommend you give a go and it gets 5 big scented candle stars from me!!

Excerpt:

Jordan is working at a bar, and Pike comes in to meet friends.

PIKE

“What the hell is she wearing?” I grumble, sliding into the booth.

Dutch turns his head toward me, his drink inches from his lips. “It’s the lingerie show,” he tells me. “They have it every Thursday night. The bartenders and servers don nighties or corsets and serve drinks and food. It’s fun.”

No, not really.

But I look around and see a few other ladies carrying out appetizers and bringing drinks, some of them in very thin attire. At least Jordan’s corset looks as thin as armor.

“But Jordan’s never done it before,” he goes on. “That’s what shocked me. Thought you should know.”

“Why the fuck would I want to know?” I pull a beer out of the ice bucket on the table.

“Yeah, sorry.” He turns away, mumbling into his glass, “You seem like you couldn’t care less.”

I shoot him a sideways look, hearing the laughter in his words.

Sticking the beer back in the bucket, untouched, I rise and head to the bar. I hear a snort behind me, but I don’t care. She’s kind of my responsibility, and I don’t want her doing things like this, because she thinks she needs money.

There’s only one bartender besides Jordan. The owner, Shel. I’m sure she hasn’t forgotten me, so I veer to the opposite end and catch Jordan’s attention as she pops the tops from a line of six bottles of beer.

“What the hell are you wearing?” I lean in, speaking as quietly as I can.

She jerks her head toward me, meets my eyes, and quickly turns away again like I’m the last person she wants to deal with right now.

She hands over the beers, collects the cash and spins around, punching the screen in front of her. “It’s fine,” she assures me. “It’s just a corset, Pike.”

“They are all looking at you.”

She nods, smiling sarcastically. “That’s the point.”

“Jordan,” I sigh, trying to whisper as I squeeze around some old dude at the bar. “This is a small town. What if your father were to walk in?”

“He doesn’t come in here,” she says, closing the register drawer and finally looking at me. “And neither do you, normally.” A blush crosses her cheeks. “Besides, I’m not stupid. I wouldn’t take part in something I thought would humiliate me.”

She turns and hands the change back to the customer, but he waves her off, letting her keep it. She smiles and turns back around, dropping the bills into an already overflowing canister.

“What are you even doing here?” she says, starting to mix another drink. “I thought you were sitting the bachelor party out, because…” She sets the bottle down and does air quotes as she imitates my growling voice, “‘there needed to be at least one sober person at work tomorrow’.”

I arch a brow at her. I don’t sound like that.

Reaching into my pocket, I pull out the flyer and push it over the bar at her.

She stills, and her face goes ashen. “Where did you find that?”

She grabs it and dumps it somewhere under her. To a trash can probably.

Taking a napkin, she sets it in front of a customer and gives him the fresh drink she just made.

“If you need money,” I tell her, “I’ll lend you whatever you need, okay?”

And she stops, slowly turning her eyes on me. Her gaze sharpens, angry, and she looks like she wants to yell at me, but she doesn’t. Instead she whips around and barrels down the bar and through the partition, turning only enough to crook a finger at me before she twirls back around and heads down the hallway.

My stomach sinks. I really don’t mean to piss her off as much as I do. What did I say now?

Veering through the crowd, I make my way down the empty hallway, finally coming to the same room she was crying in when I pissed her off the last time.

Entering through the open door, I see her standing with her hands on her hips and her head cocked at me.

“I would rather eat from a dumpster than take money from you,” she bites out.

I should shut up. But God help me, I can’t. “Hate to break it to you, but you already do,” I tell her. “You live in a house where you pay no rent or utilities, young lady.”

“I cook and clean for you!” she shouts, but I doubt anyone can hear us back here and through the music. “I pay my way, you arrogant prick!”

“Alright, alright,” I growl, blinking long and hard. “You’re right, okay? But, Jordan, men will get ideas. They’ll think they have a free pass and they can touch what belongs to my son. You’re embarrassing him.”

“Your son?” she mocks, laughing. “Well, you just missed him, actually. He already saw me, and he doesn’t care, Pike. He thought I looked good, and then he left with his friends. He doesn’t care!”

“Well, I care!”

The words are out of my mouth before I can stop them, and I freeze, almost too afraid to breathe.

Oh, shit. What did I just say?

NEW RELEASE ~ A Demon Stole My Kitty (Werewolves, Vampires and Demons, Oh My #3) by Eve Langlais

A Demon Stole My Kitty

Werewolves, Vampires and Demons, Oh My #3

I’m a witch. Not a good one or a bad one, although according to the snooty wizards, I’m a stain upon their robes.

But who cares what those snobs say?

I’ve got a job to do; stop demons from infiltrating Earth and killing all the witches. Concentrating on my job is hard, though.

First, the guy who’s decided he’s going to help me is hotter than Arizona in the summer. Like seriously, melt-my-panties-into-ash sexy.

Second, demons are targeting witches such as me because, apparently, we’re a tasty snack.

Finally, the kitten I adopted has gone missing, and if I’m not mistaken, a demon stole it.

If there’s one thing you should never do is mess with a witch’s pussy. I don’t care who I have to fight to get my furball back! And if I fall in love along the way…then it will at least get my mother off my back.

A Demon Stole My Kitty FAQs

  1. What did you enjoy best about returning to this series?

This series is just too funny to write. There is something over the top and liberating about a world where magic is out of the closet, women are encouraged to have harems, and a witch has to deal with pompous wizards.

  1. Can you tell us a little about the Werewolves, Vampires and Demons, Oh My Series?

The series, which is three books long, starts in book one, Indecent Werewolf Exposure, with the murder of a witch. Turns out that the witch murders are the start of a demonic invasion, where not just humanity is at risk, supernaturals are too. It’s a wild ride with plenty of urban fantasy elements for those who love a twisty adventure and world. It also has sexy times because in my romance books, the woman always gets her man–and sometimes men.

  1. What should we expect in this book?

It is a paranormal romantic comedy, heavy on the action and adventure. The dialogue between the H and h is to die for. As are the heroines family. If you like a smile when you read, then this is a good choice for you.

  1. What is your hero/heroine like?

Willow is a feisty, red headed, human witch who just can’t get any respect from the wizards. Until Alistair. The handsome wizard isn’t like anyone she’s ever met but he proves to be a handy backup when the demon attacks begin to hit close to home.

  1. Why are readers are going to love this book?

You want something with a bit more meat, a bit more story and a bunch of secrets to unravel? Then this will feed that hunger. It’s a vivid and laughter filled urban fantasy with a strong romance.

  1. What is your favorite scene in this book?

How dare he laugh at my Smart car?

I planted my hands on my hips—in a gesture wincingly reminiscent of my mother—and glared at him. “Stop laughing. This is not funny.”

He pointed. “That is not a car.”

“It is indeed a car. My car. And I don’t appreciate your disparagement of what is a very environmentally friendly choice.”

“It’s a little can on four wheels. You would be better protected riding a bicycle with a helmet.

“A car isn’t supposed to be a moving tank.”

“I disagree.”

“Let me guess, that’s your truck?” I gestured to the military-grade Hummer parked out front.

“It is.”

“Don’t you think it’s a little overboard?”

“A man in my position can’t be too safe.”

“You’re killing the planet with your gas-guzzling beast.” I inclined my head at his hulking metal machine.

“It won’t be the release of carbon into the atmosphere that destroys the world.”

“How would you know?”

“Because, according to the ancient texts I studied, the coming apocalypse will.”

“Apocalypse?” I snorted. “For a man of supposed intelligence, you need to stop reading the Bibles written in the past. We all know it was a time of suspicion where everything, even a priest farting, was a portent.”

His lips twitched. “Don’t mock the butterfly effect.”

“Don’t mock my car.”

“I won’t when you get a real one.”

  1. Do people have to read the other books in this series first, or can they jump right in?

While you could read this one first, to truly get the full world effect, I would recommend doing them in order.  So Indecent Werewolf Exposure, Mr. Peabody’s House and then A Demon Stole my Kitty.

FAQS ABOUT EVE

Can you tell me a little about yourself?

My name is Eve Langlais and I am a Canadian writer currently residing in our nation’s capital, Ottawa. I’ve been writing since 2009, and published since 2010. Initially, I began my career writing for four small e-presses, but have since then moved on to self-publishing, as well as signing a deal with St. Martin’s Press. I’ve had several of my indie titles hit theNew York TimesTodaylists, which was really exciting.

What kind of books do you write?

I am a romance writer, who tends to flip between science fiction romance and paranormal. I love to let my imagination go wild and have a blast creating new worlds and rules for my creations. Readers often comment (and giggle) because of my heavy use of humour and sarcasm in my stories. I love a little laughter, or in some cases a lot lol, with my romance.

Is writing your full time job?

I am a full time writer at this point in my career, working anywhere from 60 plus hours, 7 days a week, but I love it.

What was the first moment you knew you wanted to write?

When I was a kid, I loved to scribble down stories. I excelled in my creative writing class and had dreams of writing something epic. Then real life interfered for 20 years lol. But, I think that break gave me the life experiences I needed to make my stories believable – hot.

How did you get started writing romance novels?

I began writing on a dare from my husband. It happened just after Christmas in 2009. In my mid thirties, a mom of three, and working from home as customer service rep and webmistress, I turned a lot to books for entertainment. I was a happily ever after junkie, and I was tired of reading stories that went in directions I hated. My husband dared me to do better and I hate it when he wins. Needless to say, more than 100 books later, he’s very proud of himself for challenging me.

What is your approach to writing?

When it comes to writing, I am a pantster. I don’t outline and tend to let the characters tell me where the story is going, although I do have notes about my characters and the world scattered all over my desk. It’s a fun way of writing because they take me in directions I never expected.

What is a typical writing day like for you?

I am very structured when it comes to sitting down and getting words written. I write Monday to Friday starting from just after 8am until at least 11 am or noon. If I’ve not hit my word count goal of the day, then I write again after lunch. My weekly goals are usually to get 15-25K words written. I’m very regimented in that respect lol.

Where do you get your ideas?

Anything and everything can influence my brain lol. While I prefer pure silence when writing, if I’m in the car and hear Styx Mr. Roboto, I totally want to go home and write cyborgs. Seeing animals on television, especially silly ones, makes me want to write shifters. It doesn’t take much to fire my imagination.

For me it’s the odd things that will strike me and make me go what if… For example, my idea forAn Alpha Purrsabout after a haircut. For some reason the oddest idea popped in my head. I wondered what would happen if a hairdresser cut a lion’s mane? Because in my world, lions are so vain, lol.

What do you like to read?

My first author crush was Stephen King. I gobbled up his early work like a starving reader, and then I discovered Johanna Lindsay and went on a romance reading rampage. She was the one who made me discover Science Fiction romance with Warrior’s Woman.

My dear friend Darynda Jones writes with amazing humor. The team of Ilona Andrews are autobuys for me as well because they have taken their world building to such a fantastic level.

If I’m looking for great urban fantasy, I go to Jim Butcher. Mystery is Tess Gerritsen. Hot hunks written by someone else, Laurann Dohner.

Where do you see yourself and your characters in five years?

I see dozens of new faces added and new worlds. I see my ass still parked in a chair while the voices ride me making sure I tell their story.

Do you have a favourite amongst all your characters, world or series?

Lucifer, that big bad devil from my Hell series is probably my all time favorite. As to why? He’s evil. He doesn’t even pretend to be good, and his unwilling affection for his family is hilarious. In general, he is so entertaining and wickedly lovable you can’t help yourself.

Which of your books would you recommend as a starting point for new readers?

There is no one perfect book for everyone. It’s why I write diverse series from aliens, to cyborgs, to shifters, to demons… Some of them are chock full of humor (Alien Abduction,Lion’s Pride), others have a strain of darkness to them (Pack,Point). What a reader chooses should be about what caught their eye. Find something that seduces the curious reader in you.

What can readers expect when they open one of your books?

I can promise it will be fun, probably humorous and most of all romantic, because I love a happily ever after.

What have been some of your fan-favourite characters?

The favorite shifter would have to be Boris the moose. He is a grumpy fellow with a big rack, but despite that, gun toting Jan, who loves to wear heels and pearls, still fell for him.

And then there was Lucifer who began as a secondary character in my Hell books but kept stealing the show. Writing evil characters is always fun.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Eve Langlais’ books are always a really great, fun read and A Demon Stole My Kitty was no exception!!

Creatures from another realm out to take over the world, demonic possessions, snotty wizards, sassy witches, an adorable ginger kitten and a couple of supernatural beings with a few secrets all add up to a laugh out loud, action packed, hot and sexy paranormal read that I adored and read in an evening (I couldn’t put my kindle down!!)

I purchased the other two books in the Werewolves, Vampires and Demons, Oh My! series on their respective release days but for whatever reason (that I’m still trying to figure out!) I haven’t yet gotten round to reading them but after finishing this read today that’s something that I’ll most definitely be resolving in the very near future!!

This is a 5* read in my opinion and another hit from Ms Langlais!!!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Eve Langlais is New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Canadian author who writes hot romance with a bit of a twist. She is hybrid published through her own indie published titles, some small e-publishers, and a deal with St. Martin’s Press.

Eve has a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor. She is well-known for her shifter stories, but also is partial to demons, aliens, and cyborgs. Read and exclusive excerpt from FORGET YOU:

What he was about to do seemed crazy. He just needed to hear Sophie say nothing sexual had ever happened between them. Then he could chalk up those images as pure fantasy.

He pulled into a space, threw the gear in park, and got out. Sophie’s shocked expression alone would whip him down to size. Guilt over dreaming of her naked would replace his attraction to her. That’s exactly what he needed. A heaping pile of remorse.

Signs with numbers and arrows led him through the maze of duplexes in the courtyard. In the past, he’d followed her from work after a long night to make sure she’d made it safely home, but he’d never actually gone to her apartment before. King located the right door and rapped on it. Not that he had a good reason now.

A porch light flickered on above him. He heard movement inside. What if Sophie’s roommate answered? He’d forgotten about her. Shit. What was his excuse? A lost phone number. Problems accessing the presentation from his computer.

Sophie opened the door. Devoid of makeup, hair swept back into a ponytail, and dressed in a faded green tee and jean shorts, she radiated uncomplicated beauty. “King? What are you doing here?”

He barely squashed the need to take her in his arms and went inside. “We have to talk. Is your roommate here?”

“No. Robin’s at work.” She closed the door. “Why? What’s going on?”

“When were we together?”

“Yesterday. Don’t you remember?” The genuine concern in her expression made him feel like a cross between a jerk for thinking of her sexually and a man struggling to prove his sanity.

“No. I mean yes.” He raked his hair and pulled so hard his scalp stung. “When did we sleep together?” Shock. Laughter. An emphatic denial. He braced for them.

Sophie paled. She shrugged and brushed her bangs from her forehead. Her tell. She planned to deny what happened.

No way in hell was she getting away with that. “How long ago was it? Weeks? Days? Why didn’t you tell me?”

What’s next for Sophie and King? Pick up your copy of FORGET YOU, The Kingman Brothers and find out.

 BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Forget You is the first book by Nina Crespo that I’ve read and while I enjoyed the story it didn’t fully grab me or live up to what I expected from the blurb…

I really liked Sophie and after a while I got to like King (but I would have preferred his first name or a shortened version of it rather than King) – their dynamic and attraction was believable and as a couple they could so easily have been a hit from the off – but then he had to go and be a complete jerk…. That was what put me off him a little but as we got to see his side of things and he fought to remember things he’d forgotten after the accident that’s when I warmed up to him.

The story itself was well written with a good variety of supporting characters (I’m looking forward to finding out more about Aiden!!) but overall I felt there was a little something missing (not sure what exactly….) and for that reason I’m giving book 1 in The Kingman Brothers 3.75*

RELEASE TOUR ~ Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind by Jessie Lane & Abbie Zanders

Title: Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind
Author: Jessie Lane and Abbie Zanders

Genre: Sci/fi Romance
Release Date: April 17, 2018

Destiny’s not just for Earthlings…

Detective Ryan Winslet is a by-the-book kind of girl. The one and only time she allowed her personal feelings to cloud her judgement, the results were devastating. Now she’s getting a chance to make things right, but a certain sexy nightclub owner is muddying the waters.

Tiberius Maximus isn’t the first Aequorian prince to be exiled to Earth. Like his ancestors, he came, he saw, and he conquered. He’s vanquished his enemies, gained a fiercely loyal family, and runs an incredibly successful nightclub that might push a few legal human boundaries. The only thing he doesn’t have is the life mate he so desperately craves – until a salty blonde saunters into his club one night.

When the no-nonsense detective meets the exiled prince, their chemistry is off the intergalactic charts. Tiberius is convinced she’s the one for him, but Ryan’s not taking the bait. Sure, he’s über hot and seems like a great catch, but he’s also involved in some fishy business and thinks he’s from another planet.

Should she follow her head and throw him back?
Or follow her instincts… and her heart… and jump into the deep end?

Tiberius sat back and sipped his drink, content to observe. It was amusing to watch the females compete for Donny’s attention. They flirted openly, made lewd suggestions, and sometimes even managed to grope him when he got too close. None of them realized, apparently, that Donny was in a happy, committed relationship with Jay. Donny’s flirtatious behavior was nothing more than his natural, outgoing joie de vivre. The eager females would receive nothing more than a friendly smile and excellent service in exchange for their generous tips, for it was only Jay he sought out at the end of every shift.

Tiberius was in the process of raising the glass to his lips when a voice cut through the din and rang like a crystal bell in his head. “Thanks, but no thanks. And just so you know, I’m a cop and she’s my best friend. If you so much as hurt her feelings, I will be back here, and not for a social call, get me?”

The voice set his nerves and loins tingling. He scanned the crowd, searching for the source.

“Everyone should have such fierce friends. She is in good hands with me, I assure you.” That was from Quintus.
“She’d better be.”

Tiberius stood, his heart thundering in his chest, his mind whirring at tornadic speed. There! He spotted Quintus first, tall and dark, his head bobbing above the majority of shorter humans as he moved away. And there, where he had been, a golden-haired female swathed in blue.
As if drawn by an unseen force, he moved toward her. A fierce, possessive need washed over him. He needed to get her away from the lascivious interests of the worked-up crowd.
Never before had he had such an instant and all-consuming reaction to the mere sight of a woman, in this realm or any other. Dare he hope that his prayers had been answered?
The odds were astronomical, yet his soul cared not. Neither chance nor logic entered into the equation. If the gods had decided to bless him with a mate, then they would also ensure their paths crossed at a location and timing of their choosing. Why not here? Why not now?

He stopped only a short distance away. She was looking in the other direction.
He took a moment to rake his eyes over her. Loose waves of golden silk cascaded over curves that made his mouth water. She was smaller than he had originally thought, barely reaching his neck, even in heels.
As if sensing his presence, she turned. Big, blue-green eyes, the perfect color of an Aequorian sea, widened as her gaze rose upward. He couldn’t help feeling pleased when her skin flushed a lovely shade of pink and her lips parted slightly. With his superior senses, he could hear her heart speed up and feel the heat radiating from her body.

“Oh,” she said.

Oh, indeed.

They stared at each other for a long moment, until the spell was broken when an overexuberant patron plowed into her back, pushing her forward, right into Tiberius’s waiting arms.

Energy coursed through his body, firing every nerve and lighting him up from the inside out.

“I’m so sorry,” she said, righting herself.

He wasn’t. It took every ounce of discipline he possessed not to pull her right back into his embrace.
When another surge of the crowd threatened, he placed his hand on her lower back and firmly but gently guided her out of harm’s way. “May I purchase a beverage for you?”
She blinked then shook her head slightly as if to clear it. “Thank you, but no. I was just leaving.”

Leaving? No, he couldn’t allow that. Not until he knew more about her and this inexplicable pull she seemed to have on him.

“Unacceptable.”

“Why unacceptable?”

“Because I have only just found you.”
“Does that line usually work?”

“I do not know. You are the first woman to whom I have spoken those words.”

Her eyes softened, then she cleared her throat. “Oh, you’re good.”
He grinned. “Does that mean it is working?”
She laughed, the sound filling his chest with light. “Kind of, yeah. But I really was just leaving. This”—she waved her hand around her—“isn’t really for me.”
“Then perhaps you will allow me to suggest a quieter venue, one where we may talk and get to know each other. There is a small eatery just down the street. I have been told it is quite good.”

She considered him for a moment then nodded. “Yeah, okay. Why not?”

Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind was a really great, fun read from Jessie Lane & Abbie Zanders

I loved Tiberius and Ryan and together they made quite a couple. I have to admit, reading this book reminded me of why I love sci-fi and paranormal reads….. they can have elements of everyday life but then that added extra ‘out of the ordinary’ takes the book to a different level!

I liked the supporting cast of characters and the way that they were a family of choice. I’m hoping we might get a book about Quintas (and I’m hoping that there really is something between him and Betty!)

Well written, laugh out loud funny, with an action-packed and interesting storyline, I would most definitely recommend you pick up this fab book and settle in for a fun read!

I’m giving CEotSK 5 sexy stars!!

Synopsis:

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Kinda Don’t Care (The Simple Man #1) by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Kinda Don’t Care
Series: The Simple Man #1
Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Release Date: April 5, 2018
Cover Designer: Cover Me Darling
Photographer: FuriousFotog
Cover Model: Joey Berry

She’s in a white dress that dances around her ankles, and her hair tumbles in a long sheet of curls down her back. A veil covers her beautiful eyes, and she smiles directly at him. Janie is everything Rafe’s ever imagined she would be on her wedding day.

Breathtaking. Gorgeous. Perfect.

The moment he sees her walking down the aisle towards him, he knows that she’s the one.

Then she passes him, making her way to the man she’s to marry.

A man that wasn’t him.

A man that he knows with one hundred percent certainty isn’t good enough for her.

It seems that her father isn’t the only one who’s having a hard time giving her away. Rafe only wishes he knew why.

Everything about Janie sparks protective instincts he doesn’t feel for anyone, not even his own fiancé.

What he feels for the bride, however, isn’t merely a simple attraction. He knows that something is there just beneath the surface…if only he could reach it.

It has to be something huge, too, otherwise he wouldn’t be drinking whiskey straight from the flask in a church pew and wondering how many years he would do in prison if he shot the groom in front of about a hundred witnesses—half of those being cops.

He was good…but not that good.

A near-death experience cost Rafe almost six months of his memory, but right now he can’t help but feel like a huge mistake is being made on both of their parts. One that’s going to cost him everything.

Then she says I do.

At risk of repeating myself from earlier reviews, I love the books and stories that Lani Lynn Vale writes and pretty much devour them in one sitting….  Kinda Don’t Care is the first book in The Simple Man series, and a spin off from a couple of LLV’s other sets, and what a start it was.

I’ve been intrigued by Rafe for an age and it was fab to find out more about him and see him finally get a chance with Janie – and then it all went hellishly wrong…. Yeah, there was some angst and a WTFH is she doing moment – but along with an interesting, action packed storyline (with a great twist that I did not see coming), a stubbornly determined leading lady and a hawt AF leading badass this was a really well done start to The Simple Man reads and I cannot wait to meet more guys and gals as this series progresses.

It might kinda help if you’ve read Lani’s previous series – if only to keep track of some of the supporting characters as you read KDC – but in all honesty, even if you haven’t, this could easily be a standalone starting point to her books.

A solid 5* read for me.
