Book Blurb:
I never thought my fake marriage, would become real…
Jasper Hamilton
I’ve always been a pawn in the game of chess my grandfather prefers to play with me. It started when I was a child who didn’t have anywhere else to go after my parents were killed.
Gone was my home full of love and warmth, and in its place was a mansion with a man as cold as a winter night.
The only thing that kept me sane were my friends. Those blue-collar buddies who didn’t care about my grandpa’s bank account.
I never cared about the money either. Until he threatens to take away the one thing I love in this world. The foundation created in their memory. The only way for me to get it back? Play by his rules, take a wife, and secure an heir.
Something I never planned to do after growing up the way I did. But the way I respond to Daisy Williams, and the satisfaction I get from calling her my wife makes me feel like I’ve been promoted from Pawn to King.
Tropes Included
- small town
- blue collar
- marriage of convenience
- brooding for everyone but her
Jasper is book three in The Broken Falls Series: a series of interconnected standalones following a group of friends who have become family in small-town West Virginia, and the women who bring them to their knees. You do not have to read them in order, but each book builds upon the relationships of the last.

BLP REVIEW – Tracy
I’ve got to admit that after liking Jasper in earlier books in the series, I wasn’t sure I was gonna be a fan when his book started….
Ok, I kinda got where he was coming from but the gods, communicate son!! Don’t make decisions for her based on your own skewed views.
Daisy, I kinda wanted to shake her for a while. I get that the heart wants what it wants but I’d have made Jasper sweat a bit more and have to put more effort in to getting the help he needed.
There was the whole thing around the reason why he needed to be married and some little of hints and innuendo about what his grandfather had been like to live with and how he had treated Jas but it felt like some things were never really explained or clarified. I’d have liked a bit more background or explanation especially as our MMC was worried he’d end up the same way.
All in all I enjoyed the story. I thought that Daisy & Jasper worked together and, as ever, I loved catching up with the rest of the ‘found family’ and finding out what they were up to.
I’m really looking forward to Barrett’s book. Think that’s gonna be interesting!
4*

BLP REVIEW – Tracy
I’m a big fan of Kait Nolan’s books and I especially love the Special OPs Scots series as it’s got a bit more going on intrigue wise, so when I heard KN was writing as Harper Jackson and that the books were gonna be romantic suspense I was intrigued!
I have to say this was a great read and a really good start to the Wayward Sons series, though this is not one of the guys books. The story is centered around Caroline & Hoyt.
Caroline is Rios’s sister and the story lays the groundwork and setting for the series. I liked that a lot of the characters were put into the story and I’m looking forward to their books.
We find out that Caroline’s family has a tyrant of a father and a lot of the time the family is the point of gossip and speculation. It’s during one of these times that Caroline finds herself either an unlikely ally.
Caroline had a crush on Hoyt when they were younger but nothing ever came of it. She meets him again when he’s returned home to start work with the local fire department.
Turns out Hoyt had a bit of a crush himself… that makes things more interesting …. so when he hears gossiping about Caroline and her family he has no second thought about standing up to support her and this leads to a relationship of sorts!!
I liked that Hoyt was accepting of going at Caroline’s pace when it came to thoughts of a proper relationship. I liked them as a couple and how they supported the other.
There’s a fair bit going on in this first book and SotW had me second guessing myself a couple of times. I thought I knew who the culprit was then I was hedging…. Great writing and a really good start to what I’m sure is gonna be a fab series, I’m looking forward to the unraveling of a few secrets.
