BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

This was a really fun, entertaining read.

I like how Carmen Jenner writes romance and this was another well done story.

Cake features Poppy and Leo who have known each other most of their lives. Poppy is still coming to terms with the breakup of her engagement while being the bridesmaid to her best friend (ex-best friend!?) who is marrying her shit of an ex. Why she put herself in that position is beyond me, but then again, there’d be no story otherwise I suppose!!

Leo was a total man-whore. Totally against marriage, commitment and a happy ever after, he’s everything that Poppy never wanted so why does she suddenly feel herself drawn to him?!

This pair could barely go a conversation without the snark and sarcasm appearing, they each gave as good as they got and their back and forth was laugh out funny at times. They had a love/hate/love-to-hate deal going on but the sexual tension and attraction between them was off the scale, you could only imagine how smoking the make-up sex would be!!

Madness, mayhem and much more ensues when this pair get together – he’s the best man and she’s the maid of honour at a wedding neither of them really want to be at – and the added angst that follows, while a little tear inducing, added to the story and let you see exactly how they felt about each other.

There were a couple of the supporting cast who I could have happily gutted with a cake slice and one that I’d like to see knocked on his butt – in a good way!!

I don’t think I’ll look at a vanilla frosting with sprinkles cake in the same way ever again, just sayin’!!! 😉

A definite recommended read and a 4* rating

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Ahh, another great instalment in the Man of the Month series from J Kenner.

If I’m being perfectly honest, before I read Mr April‘s book I wasn’t sure I was gonna like Nolan, just from the few interactions we’d seen in the previous reads. I should have known that JK would let us see the whole of him and never doubted that he’d be a good guy!

Shelby was walking through life, doing what was expected of her by her parents and settling for what she thought were safe and comfortable options. Nolan so pushed her out of her comfort zone, in the best of ways.

Shelby and Nolan were so very different, but you know what they say about opposites attracting.
There were layers to the characters that I wasn’t expecting and I was rooting for them from the outset, they were that good together and each balanced out the other perfectly. I loved the fight and determination they had when it came to their relationship – even though they had a couple of hurdles to overcome.

I enjoyed Start Me Up a lot more than I originally thought I would and I loved that there was a crossover to some of the earlier relationships and that this pair took a few months to get their act together.

I cannot wait for more fun at The Fix on Sixth and those Man of the Month events!

A solid 4* read once again from an author I have put on my ‘favourites’ list.

“Don’t fuck this up, Bullet, or I swear I’ll make your life a living hell. She’s agreed to work with us for a month, and we need her if we’re going to pull this off. She knows about menus, hiring kitchen staff, and health regulations.”

“She doesn’t belong in a place like this, Dix. She’s not like us.” Finlay looked like a frigging angel with her silky blond hair and innocent blue eyes. It was that innocence that had flipped some switch inside Bullet and made him want tosin her up and protect her at the same time. Fucking Finlay Wilson. The wedding was four weeks ago, and he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her since. If she wasn’t starring in his X-rated fantasies, she was flitting about town in those frilly dresses she wore, spreading smiles like fairy dust.

“You didn’t seem to mind that when you hit on her at the wedding.” She arched a brow. “Or did you think I didn’t notice the way you were watching her every move when Bear and Crystal also decided to tie the knot? Sidling up to her every chance you got during the reception, like a puppy chasing a treat?”

Bullet scoffed. He’d been looking at her long before Crystal and Bear’s impromptu proposal and subsequent wedding the day Tru and Gemma got married. “She’s a hot chick. So what? I didn’t want to marry her—just have a little fun.”

“Then you shouldn’t mind seeing her in here for a few hours a day while we pull things together.”

“It’s a mistake, Dixie.” He moved around the bar and stood beside her. “A pretty little thing like her is just asking for trouble in a place like this. Why are you so hung up on hiring Finlay anyway? Did you even check with our club members to see if anyone needed a job?”

“You know, sometimes I forget that you have so much Dad in you, it’s like beating my head against a brick wall.”

“What the fuck does that mean?”

“That you’re as hesitant to hire outside the family as he is. That you think if someone’s not in the club or one of us, they can’t do shit.”

“Jed’s working here, isn’t he?”

Bear had recently given up bartending and was now designing motorcycles for the elite Silver-Stone Cycles. For the first time in the history of the bar, they’d been forced to hire outside the family and outside their motorcycle club, the Dark Knights, which was as solid as family. Although Jed Moon, who was not only their new part-time bartender but also worked as an auto mechanic for the shop, was Bear’s new brother-in-law. So technically, he was family. Finlay Wilson was not. Finlay Wilson was trouble waiting to happen.

“Give me a break.” He shook his head. “We always hire family first.”

“Yeah? Well, which of our club members do you think knows how to run a restaurant? Gutter, the home repair expert? Or maybe one of the Bando brothers, who pour concrete for a living? Do you realize Finlay went to one of the best culinary schools in Boston? She’s worked in a restaurant, and she’s run her own catering company for years, and soon she’ll be opening a catering company right here in town.”

He didn’t give a rat’s ass about her credentials. If anything, she was overqualified. But the thought of her flouncing around the bar with a bunch of horny, drunk guys going after her made Bullet’s blood boil. The fact that she was not his to worry about did not escape him. “We’re offering sandwiches and fries, not gourmet meals.”

“Which makes her the perfect person for this job. She knows how to keep costs down, and she’s from Peaceful Harbor. She’s putting down roots here, which means she’ll want to see the business do well—so it doesn’t reflect poorly on her. What do you have against Finlay, anyway?”

Against her? Nothing.” Though he’d like to be buried deep inside her. “But she’ll get eaten alive in a place like this and she’ll go cowering out the door. Then we’ll be left trying to figure shit out anyway. Besides—”

The creak of the front door opening drew their attention. Bullet looked over his shoulder, meeting the innocent blue eyes of the angel peeking in at them.

BLP Review

Sex God was another fun read in the All-Stars series from Katie McCoy.

Austin came across as a bit of a spoilt brat when we were first introduced to him but then we got to see glimpses of the boy he used to be and I could only hope that he would find his way back to being that guy.

Mia was likeable and while she wanted to hate her brother’s best friend after their kiss while they were both in college but the heat, attraction and chemistry between the pair was still there and hotter than it was years ago.

When they have to spend time together due to the article that Mia is writing on the now solo rock star, feeling start to deepen and they get closer. All is well until their secret is discovered and then things go down hill.

I really like the fact that there are connections between the other books in the series when you’re reading these books and that we get a chance to catch up with couples and friends from earlier in the series.

My only little gripe, if I can even call it that, is the way things happened towards the end of the book…. after reading Heartthrob some of the events were kinda obvious before they happened – but in saying that, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book and I’m looking forward to what’s coming next from KMcC.

I’m giving Sex God 4*

NEW RELEASE ~ NEED YOU NOW (Man of the Month #3) by J. Kenner

Need You Now, the newest standalone in the Man of the Month Series
by #1 New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner is LIVE!

3 - March - Need You Now

Charming smile. Wicked skills.

Meet Mr. March.

With his tousled hair, cocky grin, and surprising abs hidden under a conservative button-down, bartender Cameron Reed is no stranger to the attention of women.

He dates, but never gets serious, claiming that he’s too focused on his studies. But it’s not really school that preoccupies him; it’s sensual fantasies of his best friend’s sister.

Mina Silver might be absolutely off-limits because of her overprotective brother and father, but that doesn’t stop Cam from imagining the feel of her in his arms, the brush of his lips over her soft skin, or the sparks that would fly between them if he ever got her into bed.

But for Cam, the bonds of family and friendship are sacrosanct, and there is no way that he’d ever violate his friend’s trust. Or would he?

Because with love on the line, maybe it’s time for Cam to break a few rules.

Taking a risk never felt so right.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I really enjoyed Need You Now and am looking forward to more in the Man of the Month series from J Kenner. Book three is Cam and Mina’s story.

I really liked Cam, He’s held a torch for his best friends twin sister for a long time. They’ve know each other pretty much forever so he figures that Mina more or less sees him as another sibling than a love interest. Cam took part in the Mr February event, and even though he didn’t win and played it mainly for laughs, he’s now hoping that his favourite gal will start to notice him.

The heat starts to ramp up as Mina is now gonna be around The Fix on Sixth where Cam works – she’s managed to get a job as part of the tv crew that’s filming the reality show around the bars improvement – and they now see each other just about every day. Not long after the latest MotM contest things begin to change for Mina and she starts to see Cam in a very different light…..

A hot and heavy make out session leads to more for the pair but Mina has big plans for her future and they don’t include a relationship… The big question was could this couple work things out – and believe me, I loved them together so much that I was crossing everything that they’d find their own happy ever after.

Another quick, fun read in this standalone series of books, I’m giving Need You Now 4* and I can’t wait for the next instalment.

But it was a bitch and a half getting that last-minute private fitting at Madame Cosette’s anyway, and the woman probably would’ve had to stitch three bras together and then nailed the damn contraption to my shoulders to get it to hold without losing a melon, so coconuts it is.
Besides, it’s the heels that are gonna be the bigger problem. Damn good thing I have ankles of fucking steel.
And my mini-dress is stretched to max capacity over the coconuts anyway. It’s also in danger of showing my other coconuts, if you catch my drift. And there’s definitely a drift—or is that a draft?—on my other coconuts.
A wolf whistle echoes through the swanky private clubhouse where I’m strolling in with my twin brother on my left and my brother from another mother on my right. A passing server drops a tray of champagne. Conversation stops. And a bunch of stuffy golf pricks gape at us like we’re a mutant alien circus freak show crashing their million-dollar wedding reception.
We’re three dudes who have more money than God, more muscles than all the Kardashians’ bodyguards combined, and more fun than cotton candy and roller coasters.

BLP REVIEW

I can honestly say that I loved The Pilot & the Puck-Up. Although the first book I’ve read in this series I’ve already gone back and 1-C’d the first two books from Pippa Grant.

Zeus and Joey were were funny together and when they finally got on the same page they were perfect for each other. Both hide behind a mask and a lot of bluster and show while at the same time being lonely and a bit vulnerable when anyone sees behind the facade!

This book was funny, hot, sweet, a little heart twisting but it was worth it to get to where this pair ended up. With a whole cast of great supporting characters – and yeah, even though I now know who some of the couples are, it’s not gonna detract from my enjoyment of the earlier books I’m sure.

I cannot wait for more from this crazy gang of ice hockey players and their soon to be other halves as well as looking forward to catching up with the already matched pairs!

For me, TP&tP-U gets 5 well deserved stars.

BLOG TOUR ~ Feels Like Home by Jennifer Van Wyk

Feels Like Home, an all-new emotional standalone
from Jennifer Van Wyk is available NOW!

FLHome_print_web

Andy Simpson never expected to be raising his teenage twin sons alone.

Then again, he also never expected to walk into his house and see his wife with another man. In their bed. Or that it wasn’t her first time.

Bitterness threatened to wrap around his heart, darkening every part of his life.

But a brightness he wasn’t even looking for entered their lives and wouldn’t let it take hold.

Christine Jameson knew all about being a single parent. But she was holding a secret. A secret she wasn’t willing to allow anyone to find out. One she’d held tight for years.

But one look at Andy, and she knew that she needed to be honest with him. That he deserved to know he wasn’t alone.

They both needed friendship. Needed someone who understood, who had compassion without judgement.

What they didn’t imagine was for it to become something more.

That they would come to share something they never thought they would experience again.

They didn’t expect for it to… Feel Like Home.

Excerpt:

I reach across the cushion and grasp her hand in mine, squeezing once. “I’m sorry you went through that.”

She squeezes my hand once in response. “I’m sorry you’re going through it now.”

“Thank you.”

“So, want some advice?”

“Eat more lemon pound cake?”

She releases my hand and sits back, giggling, and again I’m hit with how much I love hearing the sound of her laughter. “Well, that, too. I could even say it’s healthy because it’s made with Greek yogurt.”

“You trying to tell me something?” I tease her.

She smiles, a cross between sad and sort of resigned.

“My advice? Be happy.”

“What’s that?”

“Be happy. I promise you. First of all, it will drive Heather nuts knowing you are moving on without her. But second of all, and this is the most important part of it, you’ll be happy.”

“You make it sound so easy.”

“I’ve had a lot of practice. When Todd was at his sickest, we practiced a lot of happiness. Happiness because we had good days, or we had quiet moments to spend as a family when he could barely get out of bed. Happiness when we were able to celebrate holidays. After he cheated, one of the things we discovered was that we could either give in to the ugly that it brought on, or we could move on. We moved on. And he had to do the same. We both had guilt. Guilt for how we got there. I questioned if I wasn’t giving him what he needed. He questioned everything. I’m not going to lie… it’s hard, and most days you’ll have to dig deep, but you’ll get there. Trust me. The light is always better than the dark.”

I lay my head on the back of the couch and turn to look at her. She’s so gorgeous it almost hurts to look at her. I’ve always thought so, though I would have never done a thing about it. She has always been the mom who turned heads.

“What was he thinking?” I murmur.

“Pardon?”

“Todd. What was he thinking?”

“You mean…”

“When he stepped out.”

She doesn’t respond, just simply smiles before biting her lip and looking away, her long, dark, silky hair falling over her shoulder. She ducks her head and tucks a lock of hair behind her ear.

“I’m sorry,” I tell her, though I don’t know what I’m apologizing for. Almost admitting how gorgeous I think she is? Her husband cheating? Her husband dying? Me laying my shit out for her? All of it, probably.

“I’m sorry Heather’s such an asshole,” she replies with a shrug.

I bark out a laugh. “She is definitely an asshole.”

“She forgot rule number one.”

“What?”

“Never mind… it was in a book I read.”

“Ahh. Good book?”

“More than good.” She gives me a ghost of a smile and reaches over to grip my hand, squeezing once before letting go. “So, what are you going to do?”

“Honestly? I have no clue. I need to find a place for the boys and me to stay, talk with a lawyer… that part I know for sure. I can’t stay with her. As sad as it sounds, and maybe it’s kind of a little mean, but I think we fell out of love a long time ago. We’ve been hanging on by a thread for years. I’m sure part of it was my fault, but still…”

“It’s no excuse. This has nothing to do with you, Andy. This is all Heather. You’re a great guy. It’s Heather’s loss.”

“I appreciate you saying that.”

“It’s the truth.”

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Feels Like Home was a really good, well written and engaging read by Jennifer Van Wyk and while it was my first read by the author, it won’t be my last.

I loved the development of the relationship between Andy & Christine and how they both fell hard but took their time and thought about their kids and how their changing feelings would affect both of their families.

The story had a load of feels. While for the most part it was positive and uplifting, there were times of heartbreak and sadness and at one point I seriously wanted to do damage to Andy for his pigheadedness and lack of faith in Christine!

Reece, Aiden and Bri – Andy’s twin boys and Christine’s daughter – were fabulous characters and during the gossip-mongering the twins seemed to have more sense than their father!

For me this is a great 4* read that I definitely recommend you give a look.

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Hail Mary (Hail Raisers #6) by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Hail Mary
Series: Hail Raisers #6
Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: Romance Suspense
Release Date: February 9, 2018

Mary Persephone Hail

Mary—well-wished-for child.

Persephone—destruction.

Hail—well that speaks for itself.

Her name is painful to think about. Mary, his newfound daughter, isn’t a wished-for child. Persephone, though?
Yeah, destruction is a fitting description. And Hail? Yeah, that’s just the final f-you.

The moment that her mother drops her off on his doorstep, Dante’s hell becomes complete.

Or so he thinks.

What can make life worse after losing one’s wife and kids, you ask? Here’s what: being given a baby that depends on him for her survival. Finding out that the baby’s mother is dying of brain cancer, and has a husband that he never knew about. A husband that Dante knows in the marrow of his bones is trying to kill her just as surely as the cancer eating her brain.

Dante’s a bad person. He’s done some not so nice things, and now he’s being punished for his misdeeds. Karma is finally catching up to him.

This child that he’s been stuck with is of his flesh and bone. This child is his salvation.
This child is the final nail in the coffin of his wife and daughters’ too short lives.

He doesn’t want this child.

But this child will save him whether he wants her to or not.

With the help of a friend—yes, a woman friend—Dante finds his way back to life. But what he finds when he gets back isn’t the same life that he left behind. Turns out, he has to start living a new one. One where he’s suddenly having feelings for a friend that helped him get through some tough times, and loving a daughter that won’t let him quit.

I love this series but have to admit that even though I was so looking forward to Dante’s story I was kinda worried that he was gonna be so broken he’d never find happiness again….. I shouldn’t have worried or doubted that Lani Lynn Vale would give us anything other than some heartbreak but with a happy ending!

Hail Mary was an emotional roller coaster of a ride. Gods only know how bad things had gone for the eldest Hail brother when he lost his family and I’m sure a second chance at life was not something that appealed to him never mind something he considered but that’s exactly what Dante Hail got in the form of his little girl, Mary.

I adored Cobie, she was strong AF, had been through so much but still had so much to offer. Her connection with Mary was heartwarming and I loved reading scenes where they were together.

Now, you get no points for guessing that Hail Mary was a definite ‘rip your heart out, throw it around, stomp on it and just when you thought you’d finally get it back, broken but fixable, it was squished again’ read but gods, I loved every single minute of it – even when I wanted to kick Dante in the nuts for being so stubborn and stoopid…..

A fantastic end to one of my favourite series, I cannot wait for what Lani has lined up for us next!

5 solid ‘heartbreaking but worth it’ stars!!!

Dmitri Romanov didn’t permit himself to breathe a sigh of relief. This was only the first step in a path that could potentially span years. It didn’t matter. Keira was here—was his. He had time.

He watched her look around the inside of the town car, cataloging everything with those witchy hazel eyes of hers. The faint scent of pot filled the car, giving evidence to what she’d been up to when he called. The woman was a mess, but he’d known that from the moment he met her. Dmitri didn’t do projects. He preferred to be the one holding all the cards—it allowed him to anticipate how the people around him would act in any given situation.

He’d never been able to anticipate Keira. Not from the moment she picked his pocket and walked away from him as if she didn’t give a fuck about the danger he posed to her.

Likely because she has a goddamn death wish.

He’d deal with that, just like he’d deal with the rest of Keira’s issues. In time.

Right that moment, time was the one thing they didn’t have. Keira’s oldest brother would be returning to Boston within hours, and Dmitri fully intended to marry her before Aiden realized she was gone. It was significantly more difficult to oust a wife than it was a fiancée.

He had Keira now. He wasn’t going to let anyone take her.

She kicked her feet out, propping her chunky black boots on the seat. The long line of her bare legs drew his gaze up to her tiny sleep shorts. They were barely more than underwear, hugging her hips and ass. Her shirt wasn’t much better, for all that it was long-sleeved. It revealed a slice of pale stomach and was fitted enough that he had absolutely no doubts about the fact that Keira wore no bra. Her small breasts pressed against the fabric, and she shivered beneath the weight of his gaze.

Get control of yourself. He leaned forward and nudged her boots back to the floorboard. Taking Keira was part of the plan—fucking her in the backseat was not. “There’s no need for an adolescent tantrum.”

She laughed, the sound rough and pain filled. “God, would you listen to yourself? You just showed up at my window to lure me into the night—to a chapel—and now you’re bitching about my shoes on the seats? Russian, you have your priorities seriously out of order.” She flicked her long hair off her shoulder. She’d dyed it a harsh blond that seemed designed to highlight how unhealthily skinny she’d become in the last year.

She’s spiraling.

Not anymore.

“Our current situation is no reason to throw propriety out the window.” He sounded stuffy, and he hated it, but with her sitting so close, wearing clothing she’d just been sleeping in…Dmitri dragged in a breath. “Keep your shoes on the floor.”

“Or what?” She turned to face him. The move pulled her shirt even tighter against her chest, revealing the faintest outline of her nipples. Keira saw where his gaze went, and gave a bitter smile. “All the games, all the bullshit, and that hasn’t changed.” She leaned forward and hooked his collar with her finger, drawing him closer despite himself. “Tell me something, Romanov.”

“Hmm?” He dragged his gaze up to her mouth. The wicked curve of her lips was matched only by the words she threw into the space between them with such abandon. The woman wouldn’t know caution if it slapped her in the face.

“You’re dragging me to your cave to be your Bride of Frankenstein.” She shifted closer, her bare leg sliding over his slacks until her thigh came into contact with his cock.

He should move her. Set her back and explain that no matter what she thought of the situation, she wasn’t in control. But the ring he’d put on her finger winked at him, a reminder that Keira wasn’t the sister of his enemy anymore. She was his.

Or she would be in a few short hours.

He bracketed her thigh with a hand, keeping her in place, but didn’t touch her anywhere else. There was no masking his reaction to her, not in their position. Dmitri didn’t bother trying. “Calling me Frankenstein is more than a bit dramatic.”

She looked up at him, her eyes holding a question he didn’t have a satisfying answer to. “I think it’s time to stop being in denial, don’t you?”

He recognized the direction she was headed. “You know I want you. I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t.”

Just like that, the shutters slammed down on her expression. She sat back and he let her go, watching her pull herself together. Her spine went ramrod straight, and she stared at the back of the driver’s head rather than at Dmitri. She crossed her arms over her chest. “No lies between us. That’s what you said. You want me, sure, but don’t pretend any of this bullshit has to do with sex. You need to prove what an international badass you are by marrying the sister of your enemy. An eye for an eye—a wife and a sister. Remember?”

He knew exactly what she was quoting. The note he’d had delivered to Aiden O’Malley just over a year ago. By my count, you owe me both a wife and a sister. I’ll be content with one of yours. He hadn’t realized Keira had seen it.

Twin possibilities spun out between them. She was scared and vulnerable, and if he told her that it was her he wanted and not what she represented, she would believe him. It would even be the truth, at least in part. He hadn’t been able to get Keira out of his head from the moment he met her, and he’d manipulated events to ensure they reached this exact moment.

Telling her that wasn’t telling her the full truth, though. This wasn’t some great love story where he’d been pining for her while her family kept them apart. Dmitri wanted her, yes. He craved the feeling of her body beneath his hands, her taste on his tongue, and her smart mouth around his cock.

But his craving her had no real relevance in the grand scheme of things. He needed one of the O’Malley daughters to regain his status after the blows the family had dealt him over the last two years. Keira was the only option left.

Liar.

It didn’t matter what the truth was, full or otherwise. What mattered was ensuring Keira toed the line. He sat back, trying to ignore the throbbing of his cock, and studied her. “You knew what this was when you climbed out your window and stepped between me and your brother.”

She finally met his gaze, her hazel eyes fiery in their defiance. “Yes, I did.”

BLP REVIEW ~ TRACY

Katee Robert has ended The O’Malley’s on a high note. The Bastard’s Bargain made for a fantastic wrap up to the series.

Dmitri had intrigued me since we first met him and I couldn’t wait to find out what was behind the ruthless, cold facade he presented to his enemies and allies.
Kiera being the youngest and only O’Malley girl has been shielded and locked away for too long, losing herself to the drugs and booze she consumed, so when she finds herself suddenly married to the Russian who’s been watching, monitoring and kinda stalking her she’s at a complete loss…

I loved the burn between this pair. The attraction and interest never waned, even though Kiera slowed things right down and did what she could to delay the inevitable. Finding out just how much more there was to Dmitri made for interesting reading and seeing Kiera grow into her own skin – and the person Dima knew she could become – was fab.

The relationship between our leading couple that continued to grow and evolve had me hooked and rooting for things I wasn’t sure would ever see the light of day! With the usual alpha posturing between the family heads, unexpected betrayals, threats and drama, heat and passion TBB was an excellent read.

I’m gonna miss this series – which I know will be a definite re-read, because let’s face it, it’s that good!! – but I can’t wait to see what’s next from Katee!

So all I have left to say is that I FLOVED The Bastard’s Bargain and I’d give it 6* if I could!
