Synopsis

International Best Selling Author, Abbie St. Claire brings you Conflicted on 5th, a 5th Avenue Romance Novel. Conflicted on 5th will lead you down a journey of loss, love and triumph over self-doubts and vulnerabilities.

Widower, Dr. Ian Briggs leads a complicated life. Raising his son and juggling his busy orthopedic practice have been his focus. Relationships take time and energy, something he lacks after a day at work and an evening with Oliver. After losing the love of his life, he never considered a replacement. You can’t replace your heart.

Chelsie Peterson divorced her cheating spouse with the intent of staying a single parent forever. Carson Peterson’s last words to her regarding her sexual performance cut her to her soul. Ian’s relocation changes everything. Living down the street from Chelsea, he finds himself captivated and confused. How does he balance work, fatherhood and his libido?

The arrival of Ian Briggs changes everything. Chelsie’s once contained life is now full of questions. The biggest being her value as a woman—will she ever be enough for a man, especially a man like Ian. How can she balance work, motherhood and her doubt?

While they find an escape cavorting on the side, true feelings get in the way. Life is fabulous fun and full of feelings but sometimes it leaves you simply Conflicted.

Author Bio

I’ve spent many years crafting stories in my brain. Finally, after the encouragement from those that love and support me the most, I put my first story out by self-publishing in 2013.

That first milestone created a writing monster in me that couldn’t be stopped and filled a void I cannot explain. Each story is a true gift from my heart and a sacrifice from my soul, since I find it difficult to let the characters go.

At home in Texas, my husband and I share our life with children that mean the world to us and include a couple of fur babies. When we aren’t busy watching sports and betting on the game, we are entertaining with friends.

I do have a writing cave, but honestly, most of my work comes from the kitchen, the heartbeat of any home. Since noise doesn’t disturb me too much when writing, I can write and keep the pulse on the family at the same time. And… Possibly enjoy my favorite, sinful treat… Cookie dough!

The writer-reader world is my lifeline. I’m addicted and each time I get a message from a reader, I’m
thrilled. There’s quite a few stories planned for the next several months. I’m hoping the readers fall in love with my next series, The Creek Series. A story that is guaranteed to bring out all the emotions.

If you’ve read my books, thank you! It truly means the world.

Synopsis:
Can two broken people put each other back together again?
Casey Stewart has spent her high school years being picked on
and never being enough for her parents. Starting college in Seattle is the
opportunity she has been waiting for to shed her old image and create a new
one. Casey is on the path to destruction. In a year, she has gone from the
loner to the wild child. Can she be saved before she destroys herself?
Alec “Gunner” Foster had a tough childhood. When
his aunt and uncle step in and move him and his mom to Vegas, Gunner is finally
able to be a kid again. Growing up with the VP of the Wayward Saints MC in Las
Vegas, Gunner knew he wanted to be the some kind of man his uncle is.
Dependable. Loyal. Fierce. With retaliation on his mind, can he stay true to
himself and the first girl he’s ever cared about?

Excerpt:
When I finally pull up to the apartment, Gunner comes straight for
my car door and opens it for me. I smile at him, then grab his hand, leading
him inside and straight to my bedroom. Once the door is closed, he pulls me
into his arms and roughly kisses me. I moan into his mouth, running my hands
down his sides, then back up to his chest. Slowly, I pull off his cut, breaking
our kiss. One thing I learned from hanging out with Anslie and her brothers is
that you never disrespect the cut. They represent them and their club. By
looking at their cuts, you learn what club they belong to and where they rank.
I fold it and set it on the chair in the corner of the room.
When I walk back over to him, I notice the look on his face. It is
a cross between awe and surprise. His eyes meet mine before pulling me back
against his body. His hands reach up into my hair, tangling his fingers around
the stands. He gives it a tug and I open my mouth for him, our tongues dancing
together. Backing me towards the bed, he lays me down. Leaning over me, he runs
his fingertips down my body, slowly inching my dress above my hips. His fingers
gently glide up my thigh until he barely touches my blue silk thong.
He sits down on the bed and pulls me up to straddle him, his
erection throbbing against my wet panties. Reaching my hands inside his shirt,
I can feel how solid he is. I unbutton his shirt and pull it down his muscular
arms. His hands grip the bottom of my dress, tugging it up and over my head.
Groaning in appreciation, his eyes take in my body. I lean down and kiss him
roughly, my hands wandering down his chest and landing on his belt. I undo it
quickly and unbutton his jeans, tugging them a bit to let him know what I want.
He rises up a little and I push them over his hips. He rubs me up and down his
length and I wiggle my hips.

He starts to chuckle, but doesn’t stop me. He turns and moves us
both up the mattress. “Beauty, you got anything to play with?” I
smirk. What girl doesn’t have a toy? Maybe Anslie, but I will make sure she
gets one soon!
I nod and, with a shy smile, point to the drawer on the other side
of my bed. He grins and walks over to the drawer. Watching the way his ass
flexes when he walks, I just about come undone. His back is
broad and toned, and I want nothing more than to lick it. I
watch him pull out my bright pink vibrator and some lube. He also finds my mini
bullet and brings everything back to the bed with him. I look at him with one
eyebrow raised and he just smirks. Taking the mini bullet, he gets down on his
knees. Kissing up my thighs, he pulls me closer to the edge of the bed. Slowly,
he rubs the mini bullet over my panties, then pushes my panties to the side and
turns it on. He slides it into my core and I can’t help the moan that comes
out. His fingers are rubbing my nub, making me wetter by the minute.

Excerpt

I run my fingertips over the blue-and-silver paintwork as I walk toward the back end. Bending over, I start poking around, taking a look at the engine.

“Please tell me that you’re my birthday present.”

The Irish drawl has the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end.

I turn my head to find Carrick Ryan standing behind me.

Oh. Wow.

He’s definitely better looking in the flesh than on television. I knew he was attractive. But blonds aren’t usually my thing. I’m more of a dark-hair-and-dark-eyes kind of girl.

But his dirty-blond hair, blue eyes laced with sin, and full lips—the kind of lips you spend hours sucking on—and that chiseled jaw decorated with stubble…yep, it all seems to be working for me. Well, my body anyway. Definitely not my head. Man-sluts are not my thing.

My eyes meet with his as he lifts them from blatantly staring at my arse. The look in them hits me straight in the gut, surprising the hell out of me. His eyes are profoundly blue and filled with heat. My skin starts to prickle as his intense stare burns me up.

I’ve never had such an instant visual reaction to a man before.

Fuck.

Take it easy, Andi. This isn’t a problem. You’ve met good-looking men before. You can turn this off. Drivers are a no-go area, especially ones you work for.

My job is too important to lose over a man.

Straightening, I turn to face him.

“Hello,” I say in my most confident and formal voice.

I get nothing back, and that’s because he hasn’t heard me. He’s too busy staring at my breasts.

Typical man.

I have the sudden urge to punch him in his handsome face.

But I won’t because I’m a professional. I’ll handle this in the best way I know when it comes to dealing with pervy dickheads like him.

“It’s your birthday?” I say sweetly, my smile a little on the flirtatious side.

He grins. “It sure is, and it’s definitely looking up now that you’re here. Are you going to make it extra special for me, sugar?”

He thinks he’s about to get lucky.

Far from it. Smarmy twat.

I tilt my head to the side, keeping the flirty smile on my face, as I walk up to him until there’s very little space between us. I press my fingers to his chest. God, that’s firm. I can feel the ridge of his muscles underneath my fingertips.

He’s tall, too, a good few inches higher than my five-nine. I’d say he’s six-one, which is tall for a driver, but he’s lean. He needs to be to fit into those cars. I bet, under those clothes of his, there’s nothing but toned muscle. Drivers have to be seriously fit, and Carrick Ryan certainly ticks that box on both counts.

Now, I’m imagining him naked. Great. Just fucking great.

I force my focus back to the now. “Well…” I lean in closer to him, hearing him suck in a sharp breath. I lower my voice as I whisper, “If you ever call me sugar again, you won’t see your next birthday. That’s for sure.”

He tilts his head back in amusement. “Feisty. I like it.”

I take a step back, dropping my hand from his chest. “There’s nothing here for you to like.”

His eyes run the length of me, lingering on my legs, the lusty look firing in them again. “I see plenty to like. Jesus…your legs go on forever.”

I wish I had something to hide my legs behind. Instead, I fold my arms to bring his focus up. “I’m not your type.”

Lifting his eyes back to mine, he gives me a confident smile. “Amazing arse. Great stems. Awesome rack. Beautiful face. Yep”—he nods—“you’re definitely my type.”

EXCERPT :

It’s crowded, but since it’s a weeknight, it’s not nearly as packed as usual. Since I’m about to lose my bull riding virginity I’m thankful for the slightly smaller crowd. As promised, Mike goes first but the ride operator isn’t as gentle on the men and he flies off pretty quickly. I think he might have wacked his balls against the hand hold on his way down. He winces a bit as he gets up.
“You okay?” I ask him, giggling, but I’m truly worried about his man parts.
He pulls me in close, his breath caressing my ear. I’m holding my breath as he whispers, “I think my baby makers are broken.” I laugh as he places a kiss on my cheek. “Good luck, baby, now go ride that bull like you’d ride me.”
He says it loud enough for everyone to hear and if I thought I was going to go deaf from the music before that was nothing compared to the whooping and hollering of the crowd. Of course the ride operator uses it to his advantage “What’s your girl’s name?” he yells across to Mike.
There’s a devious gleam in Mike’s eyes as he replies “Jessica, but all her good friends call her Jess.” He nods that he’s got it and after I’m straddled onto the bull, he holds nothing back.
“Alright, everyone, let’s hear it for our new friend Jess! Now, we all heard her boyfriend tell her to ride our bull like she rides him at home, so I think we’re in for a show.”
My cheeks were already flushed from the alcohol, my palms sweaty from nerves, but the embarrassment zinging through me makes my entire body burn. I catch Mike out of the corner of my eyes, laughing and shrugging his shoulders in a semi apology. At least he had the decency to not give my real name.
The bull starts off nice and slow, periodically gyrating a few times in a forward motion, but I’m able to hold on with just one hand. I don’t really know how long this goes on, maybe a minute or so, when I hear the announcer tell Mike over the PA system that he’s a lucky man. At this point, he’s done being nice and the bull starts bucking around like crazy. I’m able to hold it together for about another thirty seconds or so before I go flying off.
Someone helps me to my feet and I stumble over to Mike as the crowd starts chanting ‘kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss’.
Hell, at this point what does it matter? Mike’s eyes seek permission from mine as I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him close. He kisses me and the crowd goes wild. It’s just like the kiss we shared in my bed a few days ago—a little more than just friends, but not exactly like lovers. Whatever it is, I allow myself to feel it and the crowd cheers their approval.

Excerpt

Joshua and I both headed out of the council hall with Jacqueline leading the way. The line of young men had barely dwindled. I avoided their stare, their curiosity as they slowly proceeded forward, giving the attendant their name. I wondered how they knew about me and more importantly what they knew. Jacqueline walked a few feet ahead of us, giving us privacy to talk. I silently thanked her for still respecting us and our wishes. She was probably the only one in Haven who liked us. I didn’t know if I should be relieved or angered by the recent news. I could feel the whispers, like tingles against bare skin as we walked further from council hall and rounded the corner. I was grateful to be out of sight from all those curious stares. “I guess we should consider ourselves lucky,” I remarked. I didn’t feel lucky. I tried to sound upbeat, but everything was quickly falling apart around us.
Joshua scoffed at the idea. “Lucky? I wouldn’t go that far,” he emphasized. “This is how it starts. Eventually, they’ll make it a crime for us to see one another.” He sounded disgusted.
“They sort of already are,” I remarked, trying to understand the council’s decision. “I think they just want to make sure I’m protected.” Though I didn’t quite understand how setting me up to meet multiple bachelors was any form of protection. It seemed as if they only wanted to keep Joshua away from me. The one person I could trust, implicitly. I knew the rules were different because I was different. They didn’t seem particularly bothered by Joshua having a girl in his room. It didn’t seem fair.
“Seems like they don’t really care what we think at all,” Joshua retorted as we headed into our building. “Were you okay last night? I worried when Landon escorted you out of the dormitory.”
I walked slowly up the stairs, Jacqueline just a few feet ahead of us. “Aside from being locked in a room with no windows.” I sighed. “At least they’re giving me freedom from the tech center and a real bed. I should be grateful,” I mocked. I didn’t feel grateful, but I knew his mother at least tried to make it easier for me. As soon as we crested the top stair, I froze in place. The building shook with an alarming intensity as the first drone flew low overhead. The downstairs chandelier swayed and I held onto Joshua’s arm and my eyes widened in terror. “What do you think is going on?” I asked watching the movement grow stronger as vibrations echoed through the dormitory. A nearby painting affixed to the wall crashed to the floor, the glass breaking. I could feel the ground quake beneath my feet as Joshua grabbed my hand, refusing to let go.
“We’re being attacked.” It wasn’t a question. Together, we jogged briskly down the hall toward our rooms. I didn’t know how much time we had. All I knew was the government was here, and they were searching for me!

Meet the Author

Ruth Silver is the best-selling author of the Aberrant trilogy. With a passion for writing and a love of story-telling, Ruth is actively writing two series under her name: Royal Reaper and Orenda.

She is also writing steamier adult novels under Ravyn Rayne, including the Federal Agent Chronicles.

Interview

Q: Let’s start with what inspired you to write Aberrant?

My inspiration for Aberrant was in part that I loved reading Dystopian stories. I always love writing, so I wanted to create a world, Cabal, that was unlike anything we’ve witnessed, but not so far-fetched that it is purely science fiction.

Q: When writing Aberrant, what did you use for inspirations?
There are a variety of novels that I’ve read over the past several years, that helped in world building when writing Aberrant. Those were: The Hunger Games, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Children of Men.

Q: Are you currently working on a new book at this time?
Yes I’m working on quite a few new titles under both Ruth Silver and Ravyn Rayne.

Q: If so can you tell us the name of the book and a little bit about it?
I’m working on a spin-off for the Aberrant series. It’s a prequel story and still untitled. I’m also writing the Federal Agent Chronicles which is an adult series.

Q: In Aberrant do you have a favorite character? If so who & why?
I definitely love Olivia’s character. She’s tough, even when things are stacked up against her, she never gives up.

Q: Do you have favorite author whose books you love to read?
I really love John Green’s writing. My favorite novel of his is, The Fault in Our Stars.

Q: As a child what did you want to do when you grew up?
I had quite a few career aspirations in my teenage years. After watching the movie Twister, I wanted to be a tornado chaser!

Q: If you could go on an all expenses paid vacation 7 days and 6 nights to anywhere in the world – where would you like to go & why?
I’d love to travel to Paris. It seems incredibly romantic and also a great place to tour the city and see the sights.

Q: Do you have a favorite playlist that you listen to when you write?
Nope, I can’t stand listening to music when I write. I need absolute silence.

Q: When you aren’t writing what do you do to relax and have fun?

In my free time, I love reading, watching movies, television, playing video games and just hanging out with friends. My favorite shows are Orphan Black, The 100, and Reign.

Excerpt:

He pinned her back up against the wall, anger blazing in his eyes. The corner of his lip curled and his forehead wrinkled. “The spoiled little rich girl wants attention by trashing her room.” He yanked down his zipper. “Well, now she’s got it.”
Jack was up in her face when Beverly’s hands slapped against the sheet rock, seeking purchase as he kneed open her legs. Her feet left the floor and she braced her legs around his waist when he forced his thighs underneath hers. He slammed his cock in her slit, the force making her pussy burn and spasm from the delectable shock.
The muscles in Jack’s arms corded as he reached around and spread her ass cheeks as wide as they would go. Beverly’s eyes nearly rolled to the back of her head with the chafing of his jeans against her, and his denim covered skin on hers fired new pleasure receptors to life. She never considered that area an erogenous zone.
Beverly had never considered a lot of things until Jack introduced them.
Her eyes jarred in their sockets and her spine jolted with the furious pounding of her body against his thighs. The dry friction rubbing against her clit and Jack’s heated breath was a cocktail strong enough to push her across the finish line. His sun browned skin was reddening, pulling taut over his cheekbones. Beverly wondered if she looked as crazy as he did. She laid her head against her shoulders and dug her fingernails into his shoulders, as he wrecked her in the way she always wanted.

Taken by a Dragon by Felicity Heaton

Possessed by a need to save a beautiful Amazon warrior from the vision he witnessed, Loke snatched her from the midst of the battle between the Third and Fifth realm of the demons, and carried her to his home deep in the black mountains of Hell to protect her. But as the fierce little female awakens, he finds she’s anything but grateful, and his dragon instincts roar to life to warn she might be more to him than an enemy—she might be his fated female.

Anais remembers meeting a handsome warrior in the heat of battle, a man who was her enemy but who looked at her with eyes that held dark heat and wicked promises. When she wakes to find that same dragon shifter has taken her captive, desire is the last thing on her mind, but escaping him to return to Archangel, the hunter organisation she works for, sounds less than appealing when he reveals the reason he took her—to stop her from dying.

Can Loke protect Anais from the dangers of his realm and how far will he go to save her from the future he keeps witnessing? Can Anais resist the fierce attraction that burns between them as hot as fire and stay true to Archangel or will her heart be taken by the dragon?

Excerpt

Loke stared off to his right at the mouth of the cave, searching for a way to improve the relationship between him and his ward, and stop himself from surrendering to the darker instincts that were beginning to wake inside him. He wanted her and had done since first setting eyes on her, he would never deny that, but he would also never seek to possess her in the traditional ways of a dragon. She wasn’t an object to be owned or a slave to be taken against her will.

She was beautiful and fierce. She was a little Amazon. A warrior.

That side of her both fascinated and concerned him. It drew him to her but pushed him away at the same time. He had to keep reminding himself that she wasn’t strong. She was mortal. A weak species. He had proven that by hurting her without ever realising it.

He cursed himself and swiftly stood, intending to apologise to her. When he risked looking back down at her, her deep blue eyes were on the tunnels to his left again. Maybe there was a way to make her feel more comfortable in his home. She did seem very interested in the tunnels.

“Come. You must be hungry. I will show you the larder.” He held his hand out to her but she didn’t take it.

She rose to her feet and he looked back at the cave mouth while she dressed, giving her some privacy.

“It’s probably just because you think I’ll run off the moment you turn your back,” she muttered.

Loke smiled. “It had crossed my mind.”

She swept her arm out towards the tunnels. “Lead the way.”

He decided that would also be unwise, so he opted for walking beside her. On her left. So she couldn’t grab his knife he had sheathed against his left hip.

When he reached the fire, he picked up the wooden torch he kept near it, lit it and held it ahead of them, illuminating the path.

“In my world, we have things called torches… but they’re powered by batteries.”

“Batteries?” He looked down at her and caught her staring at his bare chest. His heart missed a beat as fire swept through his veins and he had to battle to bring it back under control.

Her gaze leaped away from him and her cheeks darkened. “Tiny power cells. We use them to run all kinds of electronic equipment.”

“Electronic?” He tried to focus on their conversation and his curiosity about her world, using it to shut out the temptation to shift closer to her. He wouldn’t cross that line. No matter how fiercely he desired her. She was under his protection only until the time came when he received word that the battle was over and she could return to her people. He meant to keep his promises.

Perhaps his desire to understand her was too dangerous to indulge. He feared that if he came to understand the sylph beside him, he would be done for, no longer able to keep his distance from her. It was better she remained a mystery then and he interacted with her as little as possible.

His dragon instincts roared to the fore, pushing back against that idea. Leaving her as a mystery meant denying his curiosity about her. It meant not learning about her world and her life as a mortal. She was his chance to gain knowledge about a world he could never venture into, no matter how fiercely he wanted to see it. He needed to hear her tales, her first-hand accounts of everything the mortal world had to offer.

Loke scrubbed his free hand through his hair, grasping the longer lengths and tugging them back until his scalp stung.

Everything about her was impossible.

She was impossible to understand as she leaped between polar emotions in a heartbeat. Impossible to comprehend as he pitted the fact she was mortal against the knowledge she was a warrior. Impossible to ignore as she huffed beside him and he felt her gaze briefly touch on his body again.

Impossible to resist.

Loke glanced down at her, his eyes straying to her despite his attempt to keep them locked on the tunnels ahead of them.

She looked unimpressed and he was coming to hate seeing that expression on her face because it made him feel inadequate.

“You seriously don’t know what electricity is?” She rolled her eyes and sighed emphatically again. “Heaven help me.”

“I do not think the angels will help you, Little Amazon. They cannot venture into Hell as far as I know.”

She stopped dead and he walked a few steps, her gaze boring into his back, before halting too and looking over his shoulder at her. Her stunned expression drew a smile from him and lightened his mood, chasing away the ache in his head and lifting him out of the mire of his conflicting desires.

“Angels?” she whispered, a touch of fascination in her voice.

He grinned now. “Ah, it would seem it is my turn to sigh ever so dramatically.”

Her face darkened into a scowl. “Whatever. I’m sure if there were angels, Archangel would know about them.”

She had mentioned Archangel before, when she had called herself a demon-hunter. The other female he had met in the battle, the one with black hair, had called herself such a thing too. It made sense for that female. She had been powerful.

His little Amazon was not.

Yet she apparently hunted immortals. A foolish venture for a mortal. He was surprised she had survived to her current age.

He wasn’t sure what age that was, or how many cycles of the earth around the sun it took for a mortal to grow to adulthood, and he wasn’t about to ask her. She would sigh again and right now he had the upper hand and he was enjoying it.

“Angels exist.” He made it a statement, so she didn’t question it.

It didn’t stop her. “So where are they? Why haven’t I met one? I’ve been hunting for years and I’ve never met one.”

“You would most likely be dead if you met one of the breed who make Hell their home. Fallen angels are dangerous prey, Little Amazon. You must not approach or engage them.”

He must have looked serious because she didn’t argue. Instead, her eyes took on a shimmer of curiosity.

“You’ve met a fallen angel?”

He nodded. “And barely escaped with my life… but it was long ago and I am stronger now. I am confident I could hold my own against one if I ever meet another.”

She ran her gaze over him, a wave of heat following it, scalding him wherever she lingered, and then raised her eyes back to his. “How long ago?”

Loke thought about that as he began walking again, leading the way towards the tunnel. He gave up searching for a definite answer and shrugged as he made a guess. “Around four thousand years ago. Give or take a few centuries. It is difficult to remember.”

She stopped again and he sighed. If she kept stopping whenever he said something that astounded her, they were going to take hours to reach the larder.

“Four thousand years. Blimey. Prince Loren is around five thousand years old or something like that according to—”

“Prince Loren… of the elves?” Loke ignored her scowl but noted she didn’t like being interrupted. “You know him?”

She nodded and his eyebrow quirked.

He had known they had fought on the same side in the battle between the Third and Fifth realms of the demons, but he hadn’t expected her to know royalty. It surprised him that the prince of elves had worked directly with her people rather than allowing one of his commanders to do such a low and menial task in his place.

“He’s getting married to one of our scientists,” she said with a smile. “Something about Olivia being his mate.”

Olivia. He frowned at that name. The black-haired female had mentioned it, stating how Olivia would love to study him. A scientist. He knew of science in the sense they meant it. Studying. Cutting open creatures to see their insides and gain knowledge of them. He curled his lip at his little Amazon, flashing a hint of fang.

She planted her hands on her hips. “I don’t recall saying or doing anything to deserve that sort of look.”

“Speak not of scientists and mates. It is a ridiculous notion that the prince of elves would find a mate in such a weak species.”

“Well, it happened… like Sable is probably going to get hitched to King Thorne.” She stormed past him and he was the one standing still and staring at her in astonishment now.

“King Thorne has a mate too?”

She nodded and looked over her shoulder at him. “You met her. She trod on your throat.”

He rubbed the front of it and pinned her with a black look as he recalled the dark-haired huntress. “She was strong. A worthy mate for a demon king.”

Her pretty face darkened, her fair eyebrows dropping low above her deep blue eyes, and she turned on him. “Strength comes from more than the body, you know? It comes from in here too.”

She pressed her hand between her breasts.

“Strength of heart does not make you strong, Little Amazon. It does not stop a blade from slicing your throat open.” He stepped towards her, closing the gap between them, and swept his fingers in a straight line just inches from her delicate throat as he stared down into her eyes. “It does not make you a match for one of our kind. Physical weakness cannot be overcome by emotional strength. A mortal is a poor match for an immortal. It would be far too easy to harm you by mistake.”

He swept past her, leaving her to follow, and paused only when he reached the mouth of the tunnel that led to the larder.

She stood where he had left her, staring at him, a myriad of emotions crossing her face and colouring her eyes, clashing and colliding, but through them all one rose.

Defiance.

She straightened her spine, tilted her chin up, and clenched her fists at her sides as her lips compressed into a mulish line.

“You know nothing about mortals. Physical strength isn’t everything. Without emotion… without heart… you’re nothing but barbarians. But I should’ve known that you were a barbarian… after all… you act like one.” She stormed past him again and didn’t slow this time.

She marched ahead of him into the darkness and he let her, even though he wanted to argue with her. He scrubbed his free hand over his face and held back his sigh. Perhaps he had been too hard on her kind. He wasn’t sure what had possessed him to say those things to her, pointing out the differences between mortals and immortals. The thought that the prince of elves had been given a mortal female as a fated mate, and that King Thorne of the Third Realm had also received one, had set him on edge for some reason.

Loke watched her stomping towards the edge of the reach of the light from his torch.

If she kept marching blind as she was now, she was going to trip over something and hurt herself. He quickened his pace, eating up the distance between them with long-legged strides, and only slowed when he was within a few feet of her. She muttered things beneath her breath and he caught his name from time to time.

The larder came into view ahead of them and she finally slowed down, her head turning this way and that as she took it in. He had carved shelves into the black walls of the small round cave many centuries ago, allowing him to keep his food off the floor, where bugs were prone to nibble on it.

He placed the wooden torch in the diagonal shaft he had hacked into the rock near the entrance of the larder and picked up the iron cauldron he had traded from a witch in the free realm. He placed his only metal bowl and a wooden spoon down inside it, and then set about gathering the items he needed for their meal.

“Eww, what is that. Tell me you don’t eat that.”

He turned to find Anais pointing at a lump of white fat he had carved off an old Hell beast, one of the kind with horns and talons. It had been a difficult battle. He could have easily won if he had resorted to using his dragon form, but his kind preferred to hunt in their mortal appearance. They relished the challenge and the chance to test their skills against a larger foe.

Loke shook his head. “I do not eat that. I use it for fuel.”

“For the fire?” She looked back towards the exit. “And the torches I guess?”

He nodded this time. “It helps. I eat this.”

He picked up a skinned side of Hell beast, around a quarter of the original carcass, with the front left limb and ribs intact, and she looked as if she might vomit.

She swiftly covered her mouth and turned away from him.

Would he ever understand her?

She claimed to be strong, but when faced with a butchered creature, she paled and looked ready to flee. He was beginning to wonder whether she had ever taken a life during her battles. Surely a female who couldn’t look at a piece of meat was incapable of taking a life?

“I think I might be vegetarian,” she muttered into her palm.

Loke wasn’t sure what that meant but he didn’t like the sound of it. “I will make a stew from the leg.”

“What does it taste like?” She peeked over her shoulder at it. “Does it taste like beef or maybe lamb? I’m not big on lamb.”

Beef. Lamb. He presumed these were creatures of the mortal world.

He shrugged. “I am afraid I cannot compare it with something from your realm as I have never been there.”

She frowned and shifted to face him, her fear of the carcass evidently forgotten. “You haven’t left Hell?”

He shook his head. “No dragons leave Hell… so you see I cannot offer you a comparison to ease your mind… but it tastes good.”

“I think I’ll have to be the judge of that. If it does, I’ll tell the world… there’s a bachelor in Hell who can cook.” She paused and ran another glance over him, rekindling the fire in his veins. “You are a bachelor? I figured you were since this cave doesn’t look like the sort of place where a lady dragon would live. It lacks a female’s touch.”

Loke bit back a groan.

His cave wasn’t the only thing that lacked a female’s touch. He had been lacking that for a long time.

His gaze fell to her hands and he was wondering what her touch would feel like before he could stop himself. He tried to shake away the image of her running her palms over his bare chest, making him burn with a soft caress, but it was impossible. He had invited the images into his mind, had opened himself to them, and they flooded him, refusing to go away.

He was vaguely aware that he was standing in the larder, staring at her like a complete dolt and asking for another kick to the groin.

Anais snapped her fingers in front of his face and he jerked backwards, blinking at her.

“I don’t want to know what you were thinking, but your eyes were being weird.” She shuffled away from him, to such a distance that it was clear she had lied and knew what he had been thinking about and knew the reason his eyes had brightened, verging on glowing.

He was hungry, but not for food.

He wanted a taste of something far more dangerous and alluring.

The fascinating little Amazon diligently keeping her eyes off him.

As if that would stop him from desiring her.

BLP REVIEW ~ TRACY

When I heard that Felicity was writing a book about a Dragon shifter I was delighted…… of all the PNR species, dragons are my favourite!!!

We first met Loke during the battle between the Third and Fifth realms when he spotted Anais, just before he grabbed her and flew off with her.

In Taken by a Dragon, we are transported to Loke’s home in the Dragon kingdom where he has taken Anais where we find out his reasons behind his actions. As time passes they get to know each other, feelings grow and we see the develovment of their relationship.

Being a hunter for Archangel and wanting back to her friends in the human realm, Anais starts out trying to find a way to escape from Loke while the big sexy blue Dragon, having had a vision of her demise and now in full-on protection mode, is hell bent on keeping her – at least until he can find a way to save her (well, that’s his initial intention!!)

Both characters are stubborn, bloody minded and determined which leads to clashes and a battle of wills until Anais begins to understand Loke’s concern and what the visions could mean for her.

As we have come to expect with this series, things are never straightforward and more than a couple of spanners are thrown into the works that cause trouble, upset, distrust and hurt between the pair.

Once again we are introduced to new characters that I am itching to meet and we catch up on some of our favourites from earlier in the series.

The Eternal Mates series is well written, interesting and action packed and in Taken By A Dragon Felicity has expanded the paranormal world that the stories take place in and has given us another fantastic read.

If you are already familiar with these books, Taken By A Dragon will be another hit with you. If you are yet to try the series, do yourself a favour and start it now.

Synopsis

Your first crush isn’t normally the man who ends up dating your best friend, nor is he the man you end up wanting to marry. But my inexperience on how to handle such a strong reaction to one guy nearly cost me everything back then. They say you can’t control when you first fall in love or who you fall in love with. So when I found myself in love for the first time at seventeen, it was a bit shocking. Not for the reasons you think, but then again, maybe it was.

His name was Johnathan Pierce, the one who drove me insane with lust, and frustrated me to no end. How could I not fall for him? How could any girl refuse his green eyes, experienced touch and intoxicating words? I knew that he was no longer the seventeen year old boy who had taken me for the ride of my life, he was a man now. It’s been six years since my heart was taken by Johnathan, a man who was now a CEO of a billion dollar empire. A man who has taken all that I had to give, and hurt me in the worst way imaginable, causing me to give up everything and run away. The indescribable pain I felt has consumed
me for six long years, but now the time has come for me to return home. Home, where it all started for a girl name Kathleen Toth-Chamberlin.

Every story has a beginning… and an end.

Excerpt

“I think someone wants to talk to you.” Blair muttered close to me, while grabbing my arm. But it was too late. I was in a foul mood, and there was nothing or no one, who could break me out of it.

“Yeah, but I don’t want to talk to anyone, but you.” I stated proudly.

“Well, I hope I can be an exception.” A voice startled me, and I jumped and turned around to see him standing there. He was standing in front of me, up close and personal, yet again. Johnathan Pierce was here standing next to us, staring at me. Me. “Kathleen?” Blair nudged my side. I looked at her, and she was biting her bottom lip, moving her eyes towards him, desperately trying to break me out of my brain freeze.

“Yes, Blair?” I muttered.

“I think someone wants to talk to you. I’ll get you something to eat for later, okay?” She smiled.

“Of course, sure.” I muttered, and turned back to see he was smirking at me. I reached out my hand to introduce myself. “Hi, I’m Kathleen. Kathleen Toth-Chamberlin,” I stated, he took my hand, stepping closer to me, and shook it while squeezing it softly.

“Hello, Kathleen Toth-Chamberlin, I’m Johnathan Pierce, but I assume you knew that already.” He smiled.

“You shouldn’t assume Johnathan, it can turn into a very bad habit.” I released his hand, and glanced over at the table of tramps, to see them all staring at us.

“Care to join me?” He asked.

“Join you? Your fan club over there looks as though they may be lost without you. Are you sure you want me joining you?” I smiled sweetly at him, as Blair started to giggle.

“Oh, I’m sure I want you… joining me, that is.” He stated quickly, adding that last part just in time, but I caught it. He wanted me? He grabbed my hand and started walking towards the exit door. I followed him, or for use of a better word, I was being pulled by him. We exited the double doors, all the while I’m chanting in my head, don’t believe anything he says… he has many options compared to your one… he is nothing to you… don’t let him make a fool out of you. I wondered where he was taking me, and I hoped it was behind the bleachers. Oh no, wait… no I don’t.

“Johnathan, where are we going?” I breathed. He kept quiet and pulled me along. The halls were empty because everyone was at lunch or class. We turned a corner and came to a stairwell, and he opened the door. He led me down the stairwell, all the way to the bottom, near an old radiator or generator. It looked like a huge motor, and it was fenced in for protection, but the sound while it ran was like a motor cycle running. No one would see us, and no one would definitely be able to hear us. How did he even know about this place, when I didn’t? He just got here today, and I’ve been going here for the last four years.

I turned back to him, and he was staring at me, his eyes darkened, and his tongue slowly licking his lips. I watched his tongue slowly curve to cover his thicker bottom lip, while his eyes devoured my body, and I began panting. I gasped as he pulled my hand roughly towards him, the hand he was still holding. My body smashed into his, and I instinctively raised my hand to push back from his chest, but he wrapped his arm around my waist to keep me in place. We were face to face, our breaths mingling. He smelled so good, and I knew in that moment that I wanted him to kiss me. I had never felt like this and now I knew what it felt like to actually want someone. I mean really want them. “Kathleen?” He whispered, close to my mouth, and I shuddered in his arms, not being able to control my body’s reaction to him.

“Yes?” I uttered, feeling as though the breath was being taken away from me. I closed my eyes for a moment, and opened them to see his filled with desire.

“I want to kiss you, taste you, and claim you as mine.” He muttered, close to my mouth. I gasped, as his words took my breath away, and in the sudden movement, my breasts rubbed against his chest. I could feel the friction, of my now hardened nipples, making me feel sensations all over my body, causing a soft moan to escape me. I balled my hands that laid on his chest, into fistful of his shirt silently showing him how much I wanted him right here and now.

“Oh Johnathan…” I breathed his name, and it sounded almost like a moan. I never heard this tone of my voice before, I could tell that it was laced with yearning.

“Shh…” He uttered. Our lips were so close to connecting, I could feel the warmth of his breath. I could feel the hardness of what was between his legs, as well as the moisture of my panties. I needed this, I wanted this kiss. It would be a first for me, and I wanted it to be from him, right now.

EXCERPT
Raven – copyright Author Dzintra Sullivan 2015

“Who are you hiding from, little bird?” spoken by a sultry voice from behind her. Raven jumped, her hand clasping her chest. She had been sitting across from the Halfway House, just staring at the door. There was some dense forest and a few fallen trees, they had a great pondering seat just out of the line of sight, or so she thought.
“Trying to give a girl a heart attack?” Raven asked as she added some panting for esthetic purposes.
“Wouldn’t you have to have a heart in order to have it attacked?” Samuel raised an eyebrow as he wandered in, sitting on a log a few feet away from her.
Raven’s head tilted in curiosity. What a strange comment for a human to make… unless…Raven thought hard as she looked straight at Samuel. His golden locks of rustic hair tumbling down his back was just dreamy. Raven sighed every time she saw it. Her need to reach out and touch it was almost unbearable. His eyes locked on hers as she grew more and morecurious.
“It would be hard to function without one.” Raven decided to try the ‘we’re all human,’approach, no sense in getting the council’s feathers in a flap over a simple error in judgment.
Samuel spread open his left-hand palm toward her, and with a wiggle of his eyebrows he slanted the corner of his mouth up in a wry smile. He turned his hand, allowing Raven to see the PSE tattoo on the webbing between his thumb and pointer finger.
Oh, good Lord. He’s a para, thought Raven. Trying to ground her thoughts as her hand reached for the solid wood feel of the tree stump. Just a little wiggle of his eyebrows, and I’m already tingling more than a church full of bells on a Sunday.
“What are you?” Raven whispered to Samuel, begging her voice to stay strong and steady.
Samuel chuckled, the sound deep and husky. Leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees, he said, “I am anything you want me to be, little bird.”
“Anything, huh? Baboon? Walrus? Dickie bird?” Raven’s laugh was not joyful, although her body was betraying her own self-control. Luckily her brain was still functioning as an adult.
“Oh, I got it. What about smoke… be some smoke and blow away on the breeze,” she stated standing up, turning her back on him and beginning to walk away. She said over her shoulder, her voice changing to a solid cold tone as she remembered what was going on at home, “‘Cause I don’t have time to play games, little boy.”
In what seemed like a split second his arms were wrapped around her waist and she was being pulled hard against his chest. Her breath escaping in small, unexpected gasps. Samuel leaned in, his lips barely separate from hers. Feeling his breath tickle her face as he began to speak, so intensely, she could look nowhere else but into his amazing eyes. Lost in the words that now danced around in her head.
“I don’t play games, little bird,” he almost growled. “I became aware of you a decade ago.” His hand crept down to cradle her ass, giving it a gentle squeeze as he pulled her hard against him. “I’ve searched this planet for you. Visiting you whenever I could in our dreams.” Samuel relished in the moment he felt Raven had melted into his arms as he ground against her, her arms wrapping tightly around his massive shoulders. “I don’t play games, little bird.” He lifted her off the ground and instinctively Raven wrapped her legs around his waist. Feeling him under her, sent her body into a dark abyss she feared she might never be found in.
“You are mine,” and with those three little words, his mouth engulfed hers. His hand reaching behind her head, his fingers entwining in her hair as he held her head in place. Samuel’s tongue delved into her mouth, twisting and turning, introducing Raven to a dance she was made to do only with him. Hearing a soft moan from Raven as she threaded her fingers into his long ruffled hair nearly did him over. Knowing he was near his limit, he pulled back to looked into her eyes. Raven opened her eyes slowly. He could see they were glazed over with passion, this was a look he wanted to gaze into every second of every day.
“What are you?” Raven whispered, her lips swollen from an abuse she never wanted to end. Smiling as she felt his chest vibrate with his chuckle.
“My name is Samuel, and I am a centaur. I am your centaur.”
