About the Book

Captured by her Cougar (Cougar Creek Mates Shifter Romance Series Book 2)
Felicity Heaton
In the wake of an Archangel attack on Cougar Creek, Storm is seething with a need for revenge against the hunter organisation and the key to it might be the petite blonde mortal he’s locked in his cabin, one he’s determined to make sing for him. Only the beauty has a fiery temperament to match his own, and the more time he spends with her, the more she stokes a fire inside him. One that fills him with a startling and undeniable need to make her sing in another way—in his arms.

Gabriella isn’t going to take her captivity lying down. She’s going to give the pig-headed brute holding her against her will hell until he finally believes she’s innocent. He might be a cougar shifter, but she isn’t afraid of him. Or at least she isn’t afraid of what he is. The way he affects her, the flames that lick through her whenever they’re close, terrifies her though, because the longer she’s around the towering sexy-as-sin shifter, the hotter that fire blazes, and it’s only a matter of time before it burns away all her restraint.

With the mating heat and the attack bringing cougars back to the creek, Gabriella is a complication Storm doesn’t need, but she’s one that he wants… because she might just be his one true mate.

Storm wasn’t convinced that his Little Bird didn’t know the tune he wanted her to sing, not one bit. She hadn’t been surprised to hear him mention Archangel, which meant she knew about them, and he had no doubt she was in league with them.

Like brother, like sister.

Ivy kept vouching for her, but even Rath wasn’t buying what his mate was selling—that Gabriella was an innocent caught up in all of this.

If she was innocent, she would tell him everything she knew. She wouldn’t have a reason to keep denying him and refusing to speak.

“You know the tune, Little Bird.” He turned away from the door, strode to the couch and slumped onto it. “You just don’t want to sing it. I’m a patient man… I can wait until you break.”

He wasn’t a patient male. Not by a longshot. He was itching to open that door and scare her into speaking, but gods, some part of him couldn’t do it. He could still taste the terror that had gone through her when he had grabbed her and pulled her towards the bedroom, her fear that he had been about to violate her, and it was bitter on his tongue, had him cursing himself for causing it. He had only meant to scare her into speaking by locking her in a dark room.

Of course, Little Bird had got revenge by using the last shred of his electricity.

It was going to be a long dark night in there for her.

Storm kicked his feet up onto the coffee table between the couch and the log burner and slumped further, so he was almost horizontal as he stared at the fire. Tomorrow, he would wheel the solar panels out into the clearing and jack them in. Not for her sake though. His desire to get some juice in the batteries had nothing to do with the petite blonde ball of fury ranting in his right ear about being a prisoner.

He tried to tune her out, but fuck, she was persistent.

“I demand to know how Ivy is.” Her tone, so damned regal and oh-so-British, grated on his nerves.

No one ordered him around.

So he ignored her, let her rant until she wore herself out and went quiet. He switched the focus of his senses to her, tilted his head to his right as he felt her stillness, and listened. Her breathing was soft, even.

Little Bird had worn herself out and right to sleep.

Storm kicked his feet down, tempted to check on her. Two reasons not to sprang to mind. One, she might be trying to trick him into opening the door so she could attempt another escape. Two, he didn’t give a damn whether she was comfortable or not.

He really didn’t.

Not only was she human, but she was born of the same woman that the fuck-head Alexander had come from—a woman he was sure was involved in Archangel as much as her husband had been, and therefore had been involved in what had happened to his family and his kin.

Thirty-six years ago.

He slid his grey gaze towards the bedroom door.

Gabriella looked no older than thirty, hadn’t even been born when his parents had been brutally taken from him during the attack by the hunter organisation, but gods, he couldn’t stop himself from laying blame on her shoulders, because he needed someone to aim his anger at, the rage that had been festering inside him for close to four decades now.

Rage that wouldn’t be satisfied until he hunted down every last human who had been involved in the raid and painted his claws with their blood.

He tipped his head back into the couch, the leather creaking as it depressed, and sighed as he closed his eyes and tried to relax. His cougar side shifted restlessly beneath his skin, the pain of his memories of that night winding him tight inside, until he felt sure he would snap.

He shoved to his feet and paced, his strides clipped as he fought to work off some of the energy flooding him, aggression and pain that needed an outlet or it would drive him to shift and hunt.

He needed a run.

He hated mountains and forests, and everything that reminded him of his early years, before Archangel. Preferred big cities and fast cars, and even faster women. All the modern conveniences and concrete and glass that made this world feel like a million miles away.

But the mountains and the forests gave him one thing he loved.

Space to run.

He stripped off his t-shirt and lowered his gaze and his hands at the same time, reaching for the button on his jeans. He froze as his eyes landed on the thick scars that ran over his right hip and disappeared into the waist of his jeans, could almost feel them where they trailed down his thigh to the inside of his knee.

His heart started to pound, a heavy rhythm that rattled his ribs as fear rose to choke him and he saw blood on his bare skin, saw muscle carved open in the line of the scar and bone peeking through in places. His throat closed as he heard Cobalt’s words swimming in his ears, telling him to hold on, and saw his older brother viciously battling to protect him from the humans trying to get to him while he was weak and wounded.

Pull it together.

Storm shook off the fear and squeezed his eyes shut, clenched his teeth as he breathed through the pain, fighting to suppress it and break the hold his memories had on him. He wasn’t there now, pissing his pants and fearing for his life like a fucking cub while Cobalt went to war, his older brother’s strength more than a match for the humans while Storm’s had been inadequate because he had been seven years off sexual maturity.

Movement on his senses had him snapping back to his cabin, on high alert as alarm rang through him, the thought of coming under attack while caught up in his past and vulnerable driving him to react.

But no one was near him.

He stared at the wooden door that separated him from the human.

She shifted on his sharp senses, rolled over and moaned as she settled again.

He had been a fucking idiot for picking his cabin as her cage, but what choice had he had? The other cabins belonged to males, and some to females, and he didn’t know who was due to return for the gathering that would happen this year, one where eligible males were coming to service the needs of the females of the pride who were in heat.

Gods, he wouldn’t say no to a slice of that. He needed a good fuck. No strings attached. Just the way he loved it.

He pushed out thoughts of screwing, because it was just his hormones messing with him, the season rousing the need in him even when he couldn’t participate. His family were responsible for maintaining order during the gathering, and as much as he hated that, wanting to fuck like the next male, he relished it in a way.

Because he got to do the other thing he loved.

Fighting.

Plenty of males lost their heads during the gathering, jacked up on hormones and pushed to the edge by them. Storm was allowed to beat the crap out of them if they kicked off a fight that wasn’t over the right to mate with a female, which meant he got to fight at least once a day. Not gentle warm-up type fights either. He got to really let loose.

Just as he had when Alexander had landed that damned chopper on their land and tried to fuck with his family.

Storm slid his gaze back towards the door.

Towards Gabriella.

She groaned and moved again, and this time, it sounded more like a whimper. He focused. Her heartrate was off the scale too. Having a nightmare?

He didn’t give a damn if she was.

Really didn’t.

Storm scrubbed a hand over his mouth. Fuck, it had been a mistake to set up his cabin as her cage. Sure, it had been the right thing, because it would keep her safe from the other males coming to the area and it was easier for him to keep an eye on her in his own home.

But the whole place smelled of her already.

Her scent was embedded in everything, felt as if it was seared right into his soul.

Sunshine, sand and surf, with a hint of something tropical.

He snagged the red comforter from the couch, brought it to his nose and inhaled, and muttered a ripe curse as it smelled of her.

And damn, she smelled good.

Had his instincts as a male firing on all cylinders.

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Too Bad, So Sad (The Simple Man series #5) by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Too Bad So Sad
Series: The Simple Man #5
Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: August 8, 2018

Tyler Cree has never been good at the whole look and don’t touch thing.

From the moment he was old enough to walk on his own two feet, he’s been looking for trouble.

Trouble comes in many forms…quite a few of those forms being the female persuasion.

Tyler knows what girls want—a bad boy. And he has the bad boy image down pat.

Ex-military—check.

Hot cop—double check.

A bike between his legs and a devil may care attitude—oh, yeah.

All the girls want him, yet none of them will have him—at least not all of him, anyway. A certain appendage they can have all they want. His heart, however, is not up for grabs. The useless organ inside his chest was broken and battered, mutilated by the one woman he thought would keep it safe.

Spoiler alert: she ripped it to shreds and set fire to the pieces.

To protect himself, Tyler keeps everyone at arm’s length, and never lets anyone get too close.

Then Reagan Rose Alvarez barrels into his life, and trespasses on not only his property, but straight into his abused heart. One glance is all it takes, and he’s suddenly thinking about things he hasn’t thought for quite some time—thoughts that a man like him should never have about a woman like her.

One moment of weakness is all it takes, and suddenly he has no other choice but to go on the offensive.

Keeping her is the only other option now.

Turns out, his heart isn’t as broken as he thought it was.
The only problem is, now the little she-devil holds it in the palm of her hands, and she has no clue just how much power she holds.

So yep, I did it again….. devoured another Lani Lynn Vale book in one sitting!!
I’m beginning to think I’ve got an addiction to this lady and her stories..hell, no need to think about it. I’ve got a serious case of must read whenever Lani brings out a new read!

Too Bad, So Sad is the 5th book in the Simple Man series and it was a fun, hot, action packed read that was chock full of chemistry and sexual attraction that I’ve come to expect from Ms Vale.

I really liked Tyler Cree, even though he came across as a bit of a jerk the first couple of times he ran into Reagan. Once he admitted to himself how much he liked her and that he couldn’t stay away from her his protective side really kicked into gear even though he didn’t think he could trust or feeling something for a female ever again. We find out exactly why he’s so hellbent on not moving thing forward with Reagan and I liked how that side of the story panned out.

Reagan Alvarez was a little bit of a nut case….in a good way! Passionate about her job, she gets blinkered when focused on what she wants to do and ends up finding herself in some sort of trouble most of the time – which is exactly the case when it comes to her first encounter with Tyler….
She didn’t want to like him given how he’d been with her and due to the fact that she’d had enough of controlling assholes in her life, but there was no denying the attraction she had to him and once she decided she wasn’t gonna let him forget about her it was game on!

I love the inclusion of characters from earlier in this and other series and reading TBSS made me want to go reread more than a few of Lani’s previous books.

A definite recommended read that I’m rating 4.5*

Molly stood beneath a magnolia tree, her face tipped to catch the moonlight. The breath caught in his throat, and for one fanciful second, Brant imagined a mythical princess or fairy.

He shook his head. The woman was real, and he wanted a dance, wanted to hold her in his arms. A little flirting? Harmless.

Stepping out of the shadows, he made his way to her.

“Beautiful night, huh?”

“Perfect.” Slowly, she turned, a smile on her face.

“How about a dance?”

She hesitated.

“I’m not asking for a lifelong commitment, sugar. Just a single dance under the stars. The night’s made for dancing.”

“It is, isn’t it?”

He caught her hand in his, amazed at its softness against his work-roughened one. “In the interest of full disclosure, I’m not the world’s greatest dancer, but you shouldn’t lose any toes.” He glanced at her sequined stilettos, showcased by her cocktail-length dress. “Don’t know how you even walk in those, let alone put on the miles you do, but I have to say that all mankind is grateful.”

Smiling, Molly peeked at her shoes. “They’re awesome, aren’t they?”

He nodded. “You can dance in them?”

“I could run a marathon in these.”

“Okay, then.” The moon shone through Spanish moss that dripped from the live oaks, forming a lacy pattern on the dewy grass.

Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This” played over the sound system. Reaching the dance floor, Brant slid an arm around her waist and drew her in, breathed in her scent. He swung her out and brought her back in one smooth motion, felt her quick laugh in the pit of his stomach. The music slowed when the band segued into John Legend’s “All of Me,” and he drew her close.

Molly fit perfectly in his arms. She lived in Georgia and he in Tennessee, and that made her safe. And if the plans he and his brothers were working on panned out? Still nothing to worry about since she lived in Savannah. When she rested her head against his chest, he wondered if she could hear the rapid thump of his heart. Ms. Molly was hot, hot, hot.

His hand slid a little lower, and without missing a beat, she relocated it to her waist.

Molly smelled of a midnight garden with just a touch of naughty. His body responded, and he willed himself to think about something else. “How’s the city?”

“Savannah?” She shrugged. “I live in Misty Bottoms now. I opened a bridal boutique. Today’s bride was my first.” She grinned, dimples creasing her cheeks.

The dance ended, and he reluctantly released Molly. “I’m driving back to Tennessee tomorrow.”

“Speaking of driving, thanks for taxiing the last of the rehearsal dinner’s partiers home last night. I heard they celebrated pretty hard at Duffy’s.”

“No problem.”

“I need to stop at my car before I go back inside. I left the little silver heart I attach to the bridal gown’s garment bag in my glove box.”

Brant walked beside her in the soft night air, a hand at her elbow, while the band played Blake Shelton’s “God Gave Me You.”

He lowered his head. “Before we call it a night, I’d love to see the rose garden our friend Cole salvaged.”

“What a mess, but after a lot of hard work it’s incredible again.”

The scent of roses surrounding them, they strolled through the yard. In the silver light of the moon, the flowers glowed and took on an almost magical, fairy-tale illusion. The house shimmered and welcomed, like the true Southern lady she was. Interlacing his fingers with Molly’s, peace enveloped Brant.

They wandered across the expanse of lawn and through the blooms in comfortable silence.

From the parking area, he heard the sound of engines starting, of tires crunching on the long drive. “Looks like it’s about time for lights-out. We’d better head back so you can finish up.”

A slight breeze caused Molly to shiver, and happy for the excuse, Brant wrapped an arm around her and pulled her a little closer, surprised when she didn’t pull away.

Reaching her yellow-and-white Mini Countryman, he made to open her door, then changed his mind, leaned in and gave her a quick kiss, one that should have been impersonal. Friendly. Instead, fire shot through him.

He pulled back, unsure whether he should be relieved or horrified that the expression on her face mirrored his own stampeding feelings. Clearing his throat, he said, “I’m taking care of a few loose ends in the morning, then heading back to Tennessee. And I already said that, didn’t I?”

“Yes, you did. The kiss was nice, thanks, but you don’t need to worry. I won’t show up naked at your hotel door.”

His breath caught.

She grinned, and he understood she knew exactly the effect she was having on him.

“I—” His phone vibrated. “Whoops. Sorry, but I’d better take this. My brothers probably forgot something. Organization isn’t their strong suit. If you’ll excuse me.”

“Sure.”

“Hello? Dad?” As he spoke, he made his way to a gnarly old oak. His father’s voice was gruff, almost as if he’d been crying. Panic grabbed Brant by the throat. “What’s wrong?

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I know from some reviews that I’ve read that this wasn’t everyone’s cuppa but I have to say I loved Must Love Babies!!!!

Brant Wylder was settled and happy living his bachelor life and working with his brothers.
Molly Stiles has a solid plan of getting her business up and running and not getting married ’til she’s at least 30.
Then they met and things went to pot where their plans were concerned.

This was a slow brewing, sweet romance with two likable main characters, a fun supporting cast and of course, baby Jax, who was a show stealer! With all that you would expect from a small town by way of support, help and a little bit of helpful interference, this was a great read that I definitely recommend reading.

I haven’t read any of the books that this series has spun from – this was in fact my first Lynnette Auston read and I’m really looking forward to more in this series as well as going back to check our the authors earlier works.

This gets 5* from me!!

About the AuthorLynnette Austin

Once upon a time, a handsome prince walked up to the Tastee Freeze window and asked the lovely princess—who was working there to earn money to redecorate the castle—for a chocolate milkshake and a date. She said yes to both, and they lived happily ever after.

Okay, maybe I embellished a little—the princess didn’t actually live in a castle—but it’s no wonder I write romances with their happy endings. My prince and I are still together.

We had one beautiful son whom we lost in 2006. Aaron brought untold love and happiness into our lives. He was one of those brave firefighters who run into the flames as others are fleeing.

Dave and I both grew up in Pennsylvania’s Alleghany Mountains. From there, we moved to New York, then to the Rockies in Wyoming. Presently we divide our time between Naples, Florida’s beaches and Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

I have a Master’s in Educational Leadership and taught middle school language arts before leaving it to write full-time. My books have finaled in Romance Writers of America’s national Golden Heart Contest, PASIC’s Book of Your Heart Contest, and Georgia Romance Writers’ Maggie Contest. My books written as Lynnette Hallberg include Enchanted Evening from Kensington, Moonlight, Motorcycles, and Bad Boys,Chantilly Lace and A Pretty Face, and Night Shadows from The Wild Rose Press, and Just A Little White Lie from Carina Press.

I love books and have closets full of them as well as two well-supplied ereaders. Nothing makes me happier than losing myself in my characters’ worlds. Besides reading and writing, I enjoy traveling. I’ve visited all fifty states with the exception of Alaska and have traveled extensively throughout Canada, Mexico, Europe, Africa, and Central America—always on the lookout for new characters or a new story.

Excerpt

Ivy swung her camera left, towards the side of the river she was on, wanting to capture a shot of it with the glacier in the distance and the sun rising above it.

A shape loomed in the mist, disturbing it, and her heart lodged in her throat, a thrill chasing through her as she pressed down on the shutter release, sure it was a bear.

But as the mist parted, it wasn’t a bear that emerged.

It was a man.

A mountain of one.

He moved towards her with a predator’s gait, prowling through the mist that tried to cling to his long powerful jeans-clad legs and the cuffs of his worn dark green fleece, the sun rising behind him casting golden highlights in his thick dark hair. His square jaw, shadowed by stubble, tensed and his stony grey eyes darkened as they narrowed on her.

It took Ivy a moment to realise he was talking to her.

“You’re trespassing” His gravelly deep voice rolled over her, a growl that suited his appearance.

He looked more dangerous than the wild animals in these parts.

A hunter?

She wasn’t sure how she was trespassing. As far as she knew, no one owned the land she was on, and she had done her research to make sure she didn’t accidentally do exactly what he was accusing her of doing.

He lowered his steely grey eyes and his handsome face twisted in a savage expression as they landed on her camera.

“Hand it over” He held his right hand out to her.

Ivy clutched her camera to her chest. Like hell she was handing it over to him. It had cost her thousands of dollars.

“No” She eased back a step and glanced at her backpack where it sat on the bank a few metres behind her, and then at the man.

He looked fit, and as if he belonged in this wild world, and she wasn’t sure she would make it more than a few metres if she tried to run. He would easily catch her. Her heart pounded at that, and she wasn’t sure whether it was out of fear or something else.

Something she was not going to examine closely.

The bear spray on her belt suddenly felt heavy, and she was tempted to use it on him, would if it came to it, even though it was against the law. Diplomacy was always the first weapon she reached for in situations like this though, one that often had the desired effect. He wasn’t the first man to attempt to block her path, and he wouldn’t be the last.

He continued to scowl at her camera. “Why are you here?”

“I’m photographing bears.” She debated showing him the pictures in the hope it would convince him that she wasn’t a threat, but hit two snags.

He would have to get close to her in order to see them, meaning he could easily snatch her camera or her, and she had put a fresh memory card in the camera last night, not wanting to have to scramble for a new one if she ran out of space when photographing bears.

He didn’t look as if he believed her.

Ivy turned towards her bag, heart slamming as she decided to risk it and find the memory card she had with photos on it.

The man was behind her in an instant, closing the distance so swiftly that it tore a shocked gasp from her lips as his left hand locked around her right wrist.

She stumbled as he pulled her towards her backpack and twisted her arm in his hand, trying to break free.

The bastard had a grip like iron.

She clutched her camera with her left hand and struggled harder, adrenaline flooding her veins to push her to fight for her freedom as her blood rushed, heart thundering in her throat.”Get off me.”

Screw diplomacy.

Ivy released her camera and seized her bear spray in trembling fingers, yanking it from her belt and aiming it at him. He launched his other hand towards her and snatched the canister before she could depress the trigger, scowled at it and then at her, and started pulling her along again.

“You need to answer some questions.” The dark note in his voice rang warning bells in her head and she kicked him in the shin, sure he would release her.

He just glared at her and kept dragging her along. When she tripped on a rock, he pulled on her arm, raising his above his head so quickly she avoided faceplanting on the ground. A bastard with a grip of iron and the reflexes of a cat.

She refused to thank him, shot him a scowl when he looked as if he was expecting one, and found her footing again, a strange calmness coming over her as she checked her Nikon to make sure she hadn’t scuffed it on the rocks. As soon as she saw it was fine, that odd sense of calm dissipated, her situation flooding back in to shake her all over again.

The man grabbed her backpack, slung it over his shoulder and marched her along the shore, ignoring her struggles as she tried to prise his hand off her, working her fingers under his in an attempt to loosen them.

They didn’t budge.

Bastard.

He was big, stood close to a foot taller than her and his shoulders were twice as broad as hers. His dark green fleece hugged his physique to mock her with his apparent strength. It wasn’t going to deter her. Even the biggest men had a weakness, and she would find his.

Her eyes widened, fighting him forgotten as a clearing came into view, a stretch of grass that spanned at least a hundred metres along the river and ran maybe twice that back towards the mountain. In among the trees, hidden beneath their evergreen canopies, cabins nestled, each of them a different shape and size.

She hadn’t seen any of them in the aerial shots of the valley, had figured the man for a camper, but it looked as if he lived here.

In the middle of nowhere.

“Are you a hunter?” She stared at the back of his head.

He glared over his wide shoulders at her. “No, and I don’t tolerate hunters here either.”

“I’m not a hunter.” She huffed when he still looked as if he didn’t believe her. “I’ll show you proof if you let me go!”

This time, when she twisted free of his grip, he released her, the suddenness of it sending her off balance, so she had to plant her foot out to stop herself from falling over. For a moment, she thought he had released her so she could show him her photographs, but then he stooped, grabbed a silver pail and filled it in the river. He poured it into a white container, and followed it with two more scoops, glared at the container and the small amount of water in it, and then at her, as if it was her fault he was collecting so little.

She realised it was when he grabbed her arm again, pulling her up the grassy slope.

“I thought we were done with the caveman act.” She kicked him in the back of the leg and must have caught him in a sweet spot because his left leg buckled, sending him down onto one knee.

And jerking her with him.

She squeaked as she hit the grass, twisting just in time to make sure her shoulder took the blow and not her camera.

He shoved her arm away from him, his expression stormy as he pushed back onto his feet, and checked his damned water, holding it up and looking a hell of a lot relieved when he saw he hadn’t spilled it. He pulled a cap from the back pocket of his jeans, revealing a heck of a fine backside as he lifted the hem of his green fleece, and screwed it onto the canister.

This time when he started moving, he didn’t grab her and drag her with him. Score one for her.

He scored a point of his own when he said without looking back at her, “I’m making coffee, and I’m feeling generous today. If you want some, and a chance to explain what you’re doing on my land, come with me. If you don’t, get the fuck off my property before I drive you off it.”

Charming.

But the thought of a hot drink, and the sight of smoke curling lazily from the metal chimney on the roof of the log cabin he was heading towards, had her picking herself up, grabbing her bag and following him.

And not only because she wanted to warm up.

She had the feeling that if she could just convince him that she wasn’t here for any nefarious reason, he would let her stay and photograph the bears.

She looked back at the river, and the mist that still swirled above it, eager to return to it in case any bears came to it while it looked so magical.

He disappeared into the cabin.

Ivy forced herself to follow him, nerves rising again as she approached the small building. A voice whispered not to go into it, that he was luring her in there for nefarious reasons of his own and that she should just leave now before it was too late.

He had been rough with her, forceful.

She had no reason to trust him, to believe he wouldn’t hurt her or abuse her.

He appeared in the window to the right of the open door, paused at his work and looked up at her, his grey eyes looking more blue in the light. His dark eyebrows drew down and he moved, disappearing from view for a heartbeat before he appeared in the doorway.

“Have a seat out here if it will make you feel more at ease.” His bass voice curled around her, a hint of warmth in it now, and in his eyes too as he gazed at her, his irises appearing more gold than grey now.

A trick of the light?

She eyed the two wooden chairs on the deck, and then peered into his cabin as he moved back into it, at the log burner against the left wall of it. It was warmer in there, but the thought of going inside had her nerves rising so she settled herself on the chair below the window and put her pack down by her feet.

Her focus strayed to the river as she waited, and it was hard to resist snapping a few shots of the valley as the sun rose higher. The way he had reacted to her photographing the valley had her holding off though, afraid that if she dared to take any more pictures that he would kick her out and her chance to photograph the bears she was sure came to the area would be lost.

He emerged from the cabin to her right and set a chipped white mug down on the table beside her. The coffee was black, and she preferred hers white, but she was damned if she was going to mention it. Steam rose off it, luring her in with the promise of warmth, and she grabbed it and lifted it to her lips, and breathed in the aroma.

A contented sigh swept through her.

While he lacked milk and manners, he had good taste in coffee, clearly made it using grounds and not instant granules.

She would have thanked him if he hadn’t chosen that moment to speak.

“So, you have your coffee, where’s my proof?” He remained standing, a glowering tower of muscle and menace, his eyes dark and stormy again as he fixed her with a hard look and nursed his own cup of coffee.

Clearly the caffeine hadn’t improved his manners.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I’ve loved Felicity Heaton‘s writing style, world building and character development since I the first book I read by a lady who is definitely in my top 5 author list!

Claimed by her Cougar is the first book in the new Cougar Creek Mates series which is a spin from the fab Eternal Matesseries by Ms Heaton.

I liked the change of setting for this series; while I love that a lot of the action in the EM series took place in London, I loved the descriptions of this new setting. The addition of the hated Archangel organisation, in a slightly different vein, was interesting too.

Rath was kinda what you’d expect of one of Felicity leading men – I do adore her kinda busted and gruff heroes. On first meeting him he comes across as a total arse but as the book progresses and we find out his secret, and why he is so distrusting of outsiders, you can understand his attitude and it helps that his reaction and attraction to Ivy starts softening his view and demeanor

Ivy was a determined lady who was passionate about her job and couldn’t understand why Rath had such an issue with her being around. She’d been badly burned by someone she had trusted and the last thing she needed was another man dictating what she could and couldn’t do. She was also desperate to make a success of her current assignment so she could move on to bigger, more important work. How would she react if and when she eventually found out what he was hiding.

Rath tries to deny to himself that Ivy is his fated mate and while she has no idea of what’s really happening between them she knows there is something more to the attraction and feelings she has for him.

As ever, the story was well written, engaging and you could so easily imagine the settlement that was Rath’s home from Felicity’s description. The heat between the pair was combustible, even when they were trying to fight it. With action, suspense and sexy shifters, this book had me caught from the first chapter.

I’m really looking forward to the other books in this new series and to seeing more of Rath and Ivy as well as his brothers, one of whom we were introduced to in ‘Claimed’

A solid 5* recommended read – even if you haven’t read the Eternal Mates series, or indeed any of Felicity Heaton’s previous books, this is easily a standalone and a great place to introduce yourself to some fabulous #PNR story telling.

BOOK TOUR ~ A CHANGE OF PACE (Northern Lights #3) by FREYA BARKER

Title: A Change of Pace
Series: Northern Lights #3
Stand alone
Author: Freya Barker

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: July 16, 2018

Once a man who lived by the letter of the law.

Newt Tobias will do anything for his little girl. Even take early retirement, sell his city home, and move to cottage country, hoping that the simpler life will provide a better balance for his troubled teenage daughter.

Yet, not long after they’ve settled, he finds himself toe-to-toe with a stubborn, fiery tempered woman with pretty brown eyes.

Once a recluse preferring to live alone.

Working with troubled adolescents, Frederique Marchand doesn’t suffer fools and won’t put up with bullies. Especially handsome strangers like Newt who think they can run roughshod over her. She loves her work, but on her own time she much prefers the company of her menagerie of animals.

But with the welfare of a teenager at stake, she must put aside rocky first impressions and work with a man who needs her as much as she’ll come to need him.

Millie is sitting on the floor again, her backpack on one side of her, and Boulder on the other, his head resting once again on her lap. He’s not sleeping though, but is closely eyeing the sandwich Millie is munching on.
“I haven’t given him anything,” she says defensively, looking up.
“I know. He wouldn’t have accepted anything,” I inform her. She looks a little dubious, which makes me smile. “Go on, give it a shot. Try to feed him a piece.”

She takes a minute, waiting for me to urge her on with a nod, before she breaks a corner off her sandwich and holds it in front of Boulder’s face. As I knew he would, Boulder turns his head away, looking to me for a signal.

“He was trained to wait for approval before he eats. Watch.” I lift my hand, palm out, indicating to Boulder he should wait, and then I drop my hand as I tell him clearly, “Okay.”

Faster than I can blink my eyes, he snatches the treat from Millie’s hand.

“Try again,” I urge her.

Once again she tears off a piece of bread and holds it out for him to eat, but his eyes are not on the bread, they are on me. I give him the go ahead, and this time Millie smiles.

“That’s awesome. How did you teach him that?”
“Lots of patience and consistent practice, every time he eats.”
“But why?”
“He’s a therapy dog, and he comes in contact with a lot of people. If he just accepted every treat that was offered, he’d be as wide as he is tall. Not healthy for a dog.”
She falls silent and seems pensive as she absentmindedly strokes his fur.

“So how was your first week in school?”

“Not too bad,” she mutters, shrugging her shoulders. “No different from my old school.”
“Is that a good thing?”
Her response comes in the form of another shrug and then she adds, “It’s familiar.”

I’m not sure what to think of that rather detached answer, it seems a bit off, but something tells me not to push. Not yet.

“Do you have a dog? Or any other pet?”

She snorts. “I wish. My mom was allergic to animals, and Dad keeps saying only when I’m responsible enough to take care of one.”

“Are you?” I jump right in, and she shows the first spark of fire in the quick look she throws me, before fixing her eyes on Boulder again. “Your dad does have a point, taking care of, and training a dog, is quite a bit of work. Especially in the beginning. You can’t skip a day because you don’t feel like walking him or getting up to feed him. You get a dog, and it’s the same with a cat or any other kind of animal, it becomes dependent on you for everything. It’s not a toy you can just play with when you feel like it.”
“I know that,” she snaps, suddenly pushing Boulder’s head off her legs, grabbing her bag, and scrambling to her feet.

“Wait,” I call out as she moves to the door. She stops, but keeps her back turned. I smile at the show of defiance. “Millie, I’m not suggesting you can’t handle a pet—I’m asking you if you can.”

Slowly she turns around and when she speaks, her voice is soft.

“I think so. I’d like to try. I’d love a friend like Boulder.”

I’ve been an avid reader and big fan of Freya Barker since I got my hands on her first book. I have to say, boy, from Slim to None to now Ms B has totally upped her game and she’s without doubt one of the few authors who I’ll auto buy/pre-order without even needing to peek at a blurb!

One of the things I love the most about all of Freya’s books is the realism of her characters and just how much we can relate to them, their situations and life experiences.

Never one to shy away from the tougher curve balls that life can throw at us, Freya tackles subjects that aren’t easy to talk about never mind deal with but that everyone will ultimately have some kind of brush with in their lifetime – whether personally or through friends or family – be that bad health, unhealthy or dangerous relationships, loss of family or friends, heartbreak and tragedy or as she has in A Change of Pace children’s mental health and the threat of terminal illness and how these illnesses can affect the people involved.

Freya always writes these situations with a great deal of care, attention to detail and I know with a great amount of research. Her characters trials and fights are not made as fillers or fluff, most of the time they make up the basis of the story and are well written, serious points that make you think about what can often be invisible things that happen to people around us on a daily basis.

Sorry, I’ve wittered on and not yet told you what I think of the story…..

I FLOVED Newt and Freddy – and who couldn’t help but fall for Millie (and Freddy’s menagerie!!)

Newt Tobias and Frederique Marchand didn’t have the most pleasant of introductions and his initial muttered thoughts of her had me laughing, even more so when she later properly introduced herself using his words..
A single dad, struggling to get through to his teenage daughter and a woman who has lost much, neither saw the other coming, or even realised they were exactly what they each needed.

Although there was an attraction between the pair, the focus and concern was always on Millie and I liked that through talking Freddy helped Newt as much, if not more at times, than his daughter, even when he didn’t realise he needed a listening ear and to open up to start with.

The blossoming of their friendship and the depth of their attraction and feelings made for great reading. I particularly like that Freya writes slightly older characters who have baggage, are flawed, make decisions that they think are for the best even if it means that they unwittingly close other people out or upset them. Freya’s books also remind us that family is often not of blood but choice or design but I liked the inclusion of Freddy’s brother and his family in this read and the other characters that were introduced were all likable and added to the overall story.

Another great emotion pulling read in the Northern Lights series from the wonderfully talented Ms Barker!!!

A thoroughly deserved 5* and a read I’d definitely recommend.
Although part of a series, these books can be read as stand-alones.

“How was school?”

“Fine.” It’s the same answer Millie gave me yesterday and it doesn’t tell me anything. I read somewhere once that when a woman says ‘fine,’ it means she’s everything but.

“Anything exciting?” I try again, which earns me an eye-roll, and I turn my eyes back to the road.

“Actually,” she suddenly says, surprising me. “I met a dog today.”

“At school?” I’m confused; I didn’t know they let dogs in the school.

“Yeah. Dad, can we get a dog?”

“Wait. Is that even allowed? Bringing a dog into school?”

“I guess so. He’s some kind of service dog. But, Dad, can we have a dog?”

“What—like a Seeing Eye dog?”

“No, he belonged to a therapist visiting the school. So can we?”

“You saw a therapist?”

“It was just some kind of welcome thing they do with new kids.”

“That’s pretty neat.”

“Whatever, it wasn’t a big deal. Can we pick up a donut at Tim Hortons?” she asks, changing tracks at lightning speed. We’re coming up to Nobel and Timmies is just down the road. “I just really liked the dog. So?”

“Sure, we can.”

The screaming that follows almost has me running the damn Jeep off the road.

“Yes! Thanks so much, Dad,” she says with more enthusiasm than I’ve heard her express in the past four years. “Can we get one this weekend?”

Now I’m confused. Does she not want me to stop now?

“You want your donut this weekend?”

“Donut I want now.” She turns to me with big wide innocent eyes. “But we can shop for the dog this weekend?”

Wait. What?

Allie was so furious, she could barely put two words together. “You don’t get to just decide that we’re having a conversation and haul me out here to do it.”

“If I was going to haul you anywhere, it’d be over my shoulder.”

Her body clenched at the thought of him doing exactly that, but she fought her reaction back. “You are insufferable. Do you know when the last time I had a vacation was? Ten goddamn years ago when I was still in freaking high school and on spring break. Ten. Years. Becka had to twist my arm to get me here, but I was enjoying myself—”

“I know exactly how thoroughly you were enjoying yourself.”

She ignored that because if she tried to deny it, she’d be a red-faced liar. “That changes nothing. The point is that I’m not enjoying myself now, and the only one to blame for that is you.” She went to push him back a step, but her hands had a will of their own. They stayed on his chest, and she sucked in a breath at how warm his skin was. The man might be a corporate suit, but he looked perfectly at home in his shorts without a shirt on here in the growing darkness near the beach. It was almost enough to forget all the reasons she never wanted to see him again.

Allie stepped closer and lowered her voice. “Nothing you say can make me believe you’re anything but a goddamn shark.”

“Who said I’m trying to convince you of anything?” The words brushed her mouth as he leaned down, just a little. “I am a shark, Allie. I’ve never pretended to be anything else.”

She started to call him a liar, but he was telling the truth. He hadn’t tried to seduce her with sweet words to get her into his bed—he’d offered her exactly what she wanted in as many words. Black-and-white. Simple.

It wasn’t simple at all.

“I despise you.”

“You want me.” His hands rested lightly on her hips. “It tears you up inside that you crave my cock, but you can’t fight it no matter how hard you try.” He backed her up, step by slow step, until she bumped a tree. Roman kept coming, the side of his face brushing hers. “Did you think about how good it’d feel to have my fingers sliding into these yoga pants?”

“No.”

“Who’s the liar now, Allie?” His lips caressed her earlobe. “I’d love a private yoga session. Just us. No friends, no instructors, no clothes. How long do you think we’d last before I was on my back and you were riding my cock?”

She couldn’t breathe. Her skin felt too tight, as if it were several sizes too small, and her core pulsed in time with her racing heart. “I would never—”

“No, Allie. No more lies between us. You’re pissed that I’m here—I get that—and you’re even more pissed that you want me. Trust me, I know the feeling. I was never supposed to fuck you, and if I’d known who you were…”

She leaned back enough to look at his face—or what she could see of it in the darkness. “If you’d known who I was, you wouldn’t have gone there with me.”

Roman cursed. “Even if I’d known your name, that wouldn’t have stopped me from wanting you. Needing you.”

She stroked her hands down his chest to the waistband of his shorts. “Do you need me now?”

“I never stopped.”

This was the worst idea. She needed her head clear, and it was nothing but muddled around Roman. He was too big, too beautiful, too overpowering. Even now, she leaned forward, the few inches between them too much distance. He let her, his hands on her hips branding her—but not trying to guide her. Allie inhaled deeply. “Do you drug your cologne? Because, seriously, how am I supposed to think straight when you smell so good?”

He chuckled. “I’m not wearing any.”

He was gorgeous and a god in the bedroom, and he had to smell good naturally. Because of course. “I don’t like you.”

“You don’t know me.”

She could argue that, but it didn’t feel completely accurate. Allie traced the waistband of his shorts with her fingers. She shouldn’t…but she was going to. She unbuttoned his shorts and slipped her hand in to grip his cock. “I don’t have to know you—I know this.”

“You’re playing with fire.”

“Maybe.” Definitely. If she was smart, she’d release him, walk away and spend the rest of her vacation in as close to bliss as she could get, throwing herself into relaxation before she had to go back to reality. She stroked him again, liking the way his body went tense but his hands stayed still on her hips.

As if he was waiting for permission.

The realization sent a thrill through her. She kept stroking his cock, teasing him. “Did you really think it would be that easy?”

“What would?” He spoke through gritted teeth, and her body gave another thrill of pleasure.

“Getting your way.” She squeezed him around the base and nudged his pants down a little farther so she could cup his balls with her free hand. “You thought you’d show up here, interrupt my vacation and, what? I’d fall all over myself to give you exactly what you wanted?”

Roman released one of her hips and braced his hand on the tree behind her. The move brought him closer to her, but not so close that he impeded her movements. She stroked him harder as he slid his cheek against hers, his breathing hitching with every downstroke. He nipped her earlobe. “Isn’t that exactly what happened last night?”

She glared and gave his balls a squeeze that was just shy of vicious. “You’re awfully cocky for someone who’s got their nether bits in my hands.”

“They’re very capable hands.” He shifted to press butterfly kisses along her jaw and down her neck even as his hand on her hip squeezed her. “Don’t stop.”

“I should.” She didn’t. “I should stop right now and leave you with a wicked case of blue balls.” Why was her breath coming as harshly as his? He’d barely touched her, but having his cock in her hands and him so close… Intoxicating. There was no other word for it.

Roman gave her collarbone an open-mouthed kiss and dragged his hand up her side to palm her breast. “I’ll just go back to my villa and jack myself off thinking of your sweet pussy. Not as good as the real thing—nothing is—but you gave me more than enough inspiration to get the job done.” He tugged the strap of her tank top off her shoulder. It was one of those things with a built-in bra, so the motion freed her breast. He repeated the move with the other side, and she shivered as the breeze coming in off the water teased her nipples. “Beautiful,” Roman murmured.

“You go overboard with the compliments.” She kept up her leisurely stroking. It was like the rest of the world ceased to exist outside their little sphere. It was just her and Roman, driving each other crazy.

“I give credit where credit is due.” He bent and sucked one nipple into his mouth. The position meant she had to let go of his cock, which she did with reluctance. He cupped her through her yoga pants, the coolness of the tree against her back only highlighting how warm his body was. “If I slipped my hand in here, would I find you wet and wanting? I think so.” He traced a single finger up the seam of the pants—right over her clit. “I think having my cock in your hands turned you on as much as the fact that we’re ten yards away from the bar and anyone coming up from the beach will get the show of their life.”

She pushed back against him even as her hips rolled into his touch. “That’s not true.”

“Liar.” She felt more than heard the word as his breath caressed her neck. “You get off on this as much as I do.” Another stroke through the fabric. “Would you take my cock right here, right now?”

She started to say yes, but common sense reared its ugly head. “I’m not fucking you without a condom.”

“Mmm.” He kissed her neck. “I know.” Roman pulled her pants down in a swift movement. She started to protest, but he went to his knees in front of her and yanked her foot free. Oh. He looped one leg over his shoulder and she caught the glimpse of white teeth when he grinned. “Have a little faith, Allie. I’m not a complete monster.” And then his mouth was on her pussy and she didn’t have the breath to argue.

Just when you think you’ve found a favourite BBF in one of Lani Lynn Vale‘s series, bang, along comes another main man who jumps to the top of the list – seriously, I loved Johnny!!

Get You Some is the third book in the Simple Man series and was the story of Johnny Mitchell Mackenzie & June Carter Common. This is where I have to admit to not yet having read the original Dixie Warden MC series and after reading GYS, it’s definitely something I’m gonna resolve sooner than later!

This pair were destined to be together and regardless of the fact that June didn’t think anyone could think she mattered, never mind love her (her beloved gran daddy aside!) and Johnny thought he was lost and wouldn’t find his place again after leaving the military.

I hated how the whole town tarred June with the same brush as her no good parents, even though it was obvious she was nothing like them. Johnny didn’t think he could fix things for her, but gods, did he give it a go!

After being medically discharged, Johnny felt smothered by well meaning but overbearing parents, so took his friends advice and moved to Hostel. I couldn’t quite wrap my head round why he didn’t get in touch and let them know where he was and that he was doing ok (though I kinda understood why he needed a little time and space to try and get his life back together)

Each was the balm that the other needed. From their initial meeting an impression was left on them both and I’m glad they found their way to each other.

The drama with the ex I could have done without to be honest – there was just something unnecessary feeling to it – but it didn’t spoil my read in any way.

The ‘ Hostel PD Facebook posts’ at the head of each chapter were funny and had me chuckling – some of those thoughts I could totally get on board with! LOL!

I’m a fan of LLVs work and I’m looking forward to more in the Simple Man series.

A definite recommended read and a solid 4* from me.

“J.T.?”

He froze for a moment, feeling déjà vu. He kept hearing Hope Donnigan’s voice in the weirdest places. Although she had actually been at his dad’s on Friday. He turned to see her standing by the wall-mounted screen to his right. Huh. She was really here.

“Hope?”

She wore open toed sandals showing off dainty, blue painted toenails. Shapely legs disappeared under a knee-length, floral sun dress. A cropped sweater hid her shoulders. She looked like the essence of summer, and he wanted to kneel down in worship. Innocence radiated from her in waves, as if begging him to muss her a little and show her just what heels like those would look like on either side of his head.

He should have felt dirty for wanting to muddy that innocence. Instead, he grew more aroused. Hell.

“Hi.” She smiled at him.

His heart raced. Damn, that dimple slayed him every time.

“He says hi back,” Suke said dryly. “I’m Suke, one of the harder working artists around here. I take it you know J.T.?”

Hope nodded. “Great place. I hadn’t realized it was down here.”

As she and Suke spoke, he watched them interact. Hope didn’t seem to care that Suke had tattoos up and down her arms, piercings in her nose and lip, and spiked black hair in a dare-to-be punk style. Nor did she seem to mind the way Suke was eye-fucking her.

“Hey.” He growled; he minded.

Suke grinned. “I’m leaving for the day. You need me to stick around and lock up? Maybe walk Hope out to her car?”

“Go.”

Suke chuckled and left.

“She’s nice.”

He laughed. “Suke? She busts our balls on a daily basis, but we love her. Now what brings you to the lion’s den?”

She grinned. “Is that what this is? The sign outside said Tull Paint & Body.”

“Yeah, a play on Auto Paint & Body, like a car paint shop. I worked for my dad before I opened the place, and some of him stuck.” Jesus, he was babbling.

“Tull?”

He shrugged, searching for calm. “My dad was a Jethro Tull fan. Sounded cool when I was twenty-five.” He paused, shoving his hands in his pockets so he wouldn’t tuck a stray strand of her golden hair back behind her ear. “What’s up, Hope?”

She flushed, now looking uncomfortable. “Ah, this is kind of awkward. I have a favor to ask.” She didn’t say any more.

She looked so damn adorable. He couldn’t help himself. He had to mess with her. “Okay. So you want a baby without the commitment. I get it. You want to make one right here or in the back room? Do you have some paperwork for me to sign first? You know, about rights for the kid?”

What? No.” She blinked at him. “Have you done that before?”

“Nah, but I can’t think of a more awkward conversation. So now that I know you’re not here to use me and abuse me, what can I do for you?”

“Ah, actually…” Her face turned bright red.

He gaped. “Shit. Really?” He took a step closer. “You want to abuse me? I’m game.”

“J.T.” She blew out a breath. “I have a problem. And I kind of dragged you into it.”

“Color me intrigued.” He led her to the high-backed purple leather chairs by a coffee table, on which a print portfolio of their work lay, along with some other tattoo mags.

“Sorry,” Hope apologized. She crossed her legs to sit demurely in the chair, and his heart threatened to leap from his chest. He wondered if she felt the same sexual chemistry he had since the first time he’d laid eyes on her.

Probably not, since she didn’t seem affected by him. She was shy, gorgeous, and could have any guy she wanted with the crook of her finger. He couldn’t imagine why she needed his help, but whatever. He was game. And truth be told, he felt protective of her. She was a weird extension of family his sister had married into.

“Hope? Just tell me.”

“It’s my mother. She’s such a pain.” Hope glared, and he was taken aback by the fierceness out of a woman he’d never seen be anything but pleasant. “She was on me about dating some rich guy. A doctor this time. Then she was riding me about my job, my lifestyle, being boring. You name it. She jumped on my nerves and ground them to nothing.”

“Ah, sorry.” He still didn’t see what part he had to play in this.

“So I mentioned I was dating someone. A tattoo artist who had baby mommas everywhere and had done time. Have you done time? Because that would be good.”

He blinked. “Huh?’

Like a steamroller, she continued, “I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend the next time I have to go to dinner at Mom and Dad’s. And you need to be awful.”

He didn’t like the tone of this drama. “What? Play the big bad black man to scare your lily-white mom?”

She snorted. “Please. If only it was that easy to scare Linda Donnigan.”

He relaxed, more than glad to know she couldn’t care less about his skin color. “Then what do you need, exactly?”

“My mother loves men and women of all races, genders, and sexualities. But she’s a snob. It’s all about money and success to her. If you’re not dying to be president, you’re nothing.”

“President as in…?”

“The top of whatever your career is, or the actual POTUS. With Linda, it could be either,” she said wryly. “I have no drive to be more than Cam’s assistant right now. I work at my cousin’s investment firm, and I’m basically a glorified secretary. But I’m okay with that.”

“You don’t sound okay.” She sounded frustrated.

“I am. Mostly.” She sighed. “Look, none of this is your fault. I needed someone I thought my mother wouldn’t like.”

“That hurts.” He wasn’t lying.

“It’s not personal. She doesn’t know you, J.T. But she’s not a fan of tattoos at all. And you look tough. So I thought, who do I know who would freak my mother out?”

“Me?”

“Yes.” She smiled. “I just need you to pretend to be my new boyfriend a few times. Then we can ‘break up’ and she’ll never know.”

“I have met your mom, you know. It was brief, at Del’s wedding. She might remember.” He frowned. “Then again, she was drinking that night.”

“She’s good like that.” Hope leaned closer and grabbed his hand.

The feel of her smaller palm against his had sweat break out on his forehead. He stared into her honey gold eyes and felt himself nodding.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Oh lordy, I’ve been looking forward to JT’s book for a while and, as I suspected, Marie Harte did not disappoint!!!

The Only Thing is the third book in the Donnigans series and we finally get to find out more about Hope, the only girl of the four Donnigan siblings.

Poor Hope, she had so much to live up to when it came to her mothers expectations and her older brothers achievements!!! So much so that when her mother starts interfering in her love life and telling her what kind of guy she needs in her life, she comes up with a fake relationship with JT, who caught her attention a while ago at her cousins wedding….

JT (wait ’til you find out what that stands for!! 🙂 ) is a great guy. For all he’s big, tattooed and looks like a badass, he’s loyal, caring, attentive, supportive and more than happy to help Hope out with her situation – that could well also have something to do with Miss Donnigan having caught his eye and the attraction he has to her.

This pair, even in their ‘fake’ relationship were fab. The fact that the pressure was off gave them the chance to get to know each other and both definitely liked what they found. I loved JT’s determination to move things forward and get Hope to admit what he knew – that they were more than pretend and had a really great thing together.

Even when they were trying not to be, this couple were all in, they were great for each other and I was rooting for them the whole read through. Complete opposites when it came to thoughts on relationships, JT couldn’t see himself even considering marriage, while Hope was all for the white picket fence, husband and kids….. but maybe meeting the right person could change both their ideals?

As ever, I loved that Marie had the crossover of characters from previous series involved in the story – catching up with old favourites is always fun. The book was well written, engaging, funny, sweet and hot. It really pulled at my emotions and was a great way to end the Donnigans series!

I cannot wait to see what is next from one of my favourite authors, whatever it is, I know it’s gonna be great!

My rating, 5*  ❤ ❤ ❤

A Standalone Novel

Excerpt

“Are you my guardian?” she quipped, trying to keep things light as she tipped her head slightly, studying his tight, serious expression.

“I want to be.” His voice was serious as hell. His tone rubbed her in the most intimate way, her body swaying toward him.

“Jake.” He reached out a hand to cup her face, his calloused fingertips rough against her skin. So intense were his features, so erotic was his touch, his protectiveness cloaking her in heat. Her nipples even puckered into tight points of need.

“If I had my way, nobody would be able to take advantage of you, because they’d have to go through me in order to get to you.” Her face warmed at his words.

“That’s sweet of you to say.”

“I’m not feeling very sweet. In fact, I’m feeling pretty damned protective.” He was, and she liked it. A lot. His fingers skimmed her cheek as he spoke.

“I was lucky enough to find you again. I want a chance to see what could be between us,” he said, taking her off guard. But God, she wanted that, too.

Despite her brain telling her they needed to tread carefully, that they had a little boy to protect, her traitorous heart still wanted more. His blue gaze bored into hers, causing her heart to pound hard in her chest.

“I know things are complicated right now, but how many people get second chances?”

“Not many,” she agreed, knowing how lucky they were.

“So wouldn’t we be foolish to waste the opportunity?”

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I enjoyed Breathe, the second book in the Rosewood Bay series by Carly Phillips

We had been introduced to Phoebe in Fearless, book one of the series, but I enjoyed getting to know her and Jamie more in her own book.

Phoebe had a pretty tough upbringing, only brightened by her relationship with Jake until that ended and then she was rescued from foster care by her aunt. She’s a really strong character, a teen mom who has raised a really great, well adjusted little boy, she was accepting of her life and where it was going until she ran into Jake again.

I liked that he was determined to be a part of her life again and was patient enough to give her time and a little space to get used to him being back and together they made a great couple.

Jake was a great guy, he’d screwed up as a teen but had gotten his head and life straightened out and was doing well for himself. He has a little girl from with his ex and she is his life, until he runs into Phoebe again….. little realising that she’s gonna change his life in more ways than one! Regardless of how he found out that he was the father of her son, he adapted well and I thought the relationship between him and Jamie was so relaxed and right!

I loved that the connection between her and Jake was still there and that they were as connected now as they had been as teens but the drama with his ex-wife bugged me and for that reason, I didn’t love this instalment of the series!!!

I’m looking forward to the third book in the series, asides from finding out more about their little sister, I can’t wait to see what’s happening with Phoebe, Jake & Jamie as well as Halley & Kane

I’m giving Breathe 4*..
