CHAPTER REVEAL ~ Ryker (Sinister Knights MC) by Aria Cole

Also available via Kindle Unlimited

Ride. Protect. Defend.
Anna Kloss grew up as a smart girl in the Sinister Knights Motorcycle Club, an above-the-law group of misfits that fights to safeguard the women of their town. Straddling both worlds, she’s lived the last few years in a college dorm, losing herself in the promise of her future and trying to forget the lost love of her past.

As Vice President of the Sinister Knights, Ryker Beckett has proven his dedication and loyalty by sitting in a county jail cell for three years for saving one woman from a nightmarish assault. The woman. The only one who matters. Prez’s young, innocent, and untouched daughter, Anna.

But now, Ryker is back, his sights set on reconnecting with the woman who occupied every minute of his thoughts while he was away. Anna’s all grown up, but she’s still the only one he can’t have, the only one he craves… Is she ready for this giant, rough-around-the-edges biker to protect and defend her forever?

Warning: Ryker is hard in all the right places—a tall, tattooed drink of water sitting on a powerful engine. He’s got his mind on one woman only, and when he sees her again, he’s determined to get her bred and on his bike for their sexy ride into the sunset.

Anna
“So when do you think that sexy hunk of man meat will be here?” My best friend, Piper, threw herself onto my violet duvet.
“He’s not sexy.” I turned away from her, heart falling in my chest at just the thought of him.
“Bullshit.” Piper snapped her gum. “You’ve been pining over him since he went away.”
“I haven’t,” I protested.
“Again, I’m gonna have to call bullshit. So when’s he coming back?”
“I don’t know. I heard Dad say the party starts tonight, so I’m thinking sometime between now and then.” Dad would have killed me if he’d known I was eavesdropping outside of his office while he was on my phone, but the old man had refused to give me any information relating to Ryker, and I’d grown desperate for anything.
“Between now and then, huh?” Piper eyed me curiously. “So what are you gonna say to the asshole?”
“He’s not an asshole, Piper.”
“Well, he hasn’t written in the three years he’s been gone.”
“Maybe he couldn’t,” I defended weakly.
“But he could keep in touch with your dad?”
“Dad went to visit him every week, kept him in the loop, but I wasn’t allowed to go.”
Piper frowned. “You should call him on that bullshit. This is your life, you’ve got to get your man.”
“He’s not my man.” But he used to be.
“He was when he went up to County. I’m bettin’ he still sees you that way now.”
“Thirty-six months is a long time to be…” I struggled to find the word. The club didn’t say things like prison, jail, incarcerated. They said, “going away.” It was safer that way.
“He owes you an explanation,” Piper said finally.
“He doesn’t owe me anything. I think he’s given me enough already.” I felt the bundle of tears clogging my throat.
“That’s not your fault, Anna. You’re not the reason he’s up there.”
I paused, holding the gaze of the girl I’d been friends with since I was three. “Feels like it.”
Her eyes searched my face before she collapsed with uncharacteristic emotion and pulled me into her embrace. “I know it does, Anna, but it’s not. I promise you it’s not.”
I wiped at the itchy tears running down my face. Every day without Ryker in my life felt like a bullet fracturing my soul.
Would he even want me anymore? Was I the same girl he left?
I wasn’t sure I was, and somewhere down deep, I felt guilt for changing on him too.
In the weeks following Ryker’s arrest and sentencing, Dad had sent me away to an early entrance college program that could fast-track me to a degree in sociology.
I’d only half wanted to go before the event that changed all of our lives. So when I’d told Dad I planned to stay right here at Falcon’s Nest and wait for Ryker to get home, he’d pulled me off my ass and thrown me out the door faster than I could blink.
All for the best, he’d said.
It’d taken me a long couple years to see the wisdom in that statement.
Now I was only six months away from earning my degree and back home for the summer. Back where it all began.
“So what time does that party start? I don’t want to be late.” Piper twittered behind me.
“We’re not going.”
“Why the hell not? It’s Ryker’s welcome home party, right? We’d like to welcome him.”
“You might like to welcome him. I’d rather sit here and sulk away the pain.”
“I’d really like to check out that bod. I bet he got big in the joint.” Piper’s eyes lit up.
I shook my head. “I don’t care.”
“Ha! He was a big motherfucker before, just imagine him now, Anna. Bulging biceps, washboard abs… Remember when we used to watch him do pull-ups in the garage?” Her eyes glassed over with the pleasurable memory.
“I remember you dragging me down into the ditch and getting covered in thistle weeds when he caught us.”
“He didn’t catch us,” Piper retorted.
“He did.” I laughed. “He told me he did.”
“Shit.”
“Not as stealthy as you thought, sister.”
She stuck out her tongue at me. “What are you gonna wear to the party? Something short, show off those legs. You’ve lost at least ten pounds since he last saw you.”
“Twelve.” I groaned, “And I’m not going. I’m staying right here, and if I run into him, I run into him—”
“This one will make your tits look great.” She ignored everything I’d just said and pushed a clingy purple dress over my head.
“Piper!” I spat as I shoved my arms through the holes. “My dad will fucking kill us if we show up. It’s a members-only kind of thing.”
“We’re members.” She adjusted the dress around my boobs, pulling the neckline down a little farther. “Well, you are. And I sorta am…by proxy or something.”
I arched an eyebrow when she spun me in the mirror. I frowned, taking in my curvy form.
“You look fucking hot.”
My frown deepened.
“He’s going to want to bone you the second he sees you.”
“Piper!”
“It’s a good dress. And, you’re kind of fucking gorgeous, Anna. I know no one tells you that. I don’t know why they don’t tell you that… It’s that whole, I’m too smart for you unapproachable vibe you’ve got going on, but it’s true. You’re fucking gorgeous, and I bet Ryker beat off to you every night he was in that place, just waiting to see you again.”
A blush burned up my cheeks. “What if I don’t know him anymore, Piper?”
“Well, then it’s time to get reacquainted tonight.” She winked at my reflection in the mirror.
“I’m not going to that party.”
“Over my dead body, sister. Now let’s get into your makeup. It just so happens I brought my falsies with me.” She yanked a pair of false eyelashes out of her huge purse. “You’re gonna look like a Kardashian tonight.”
“Ugh or a hooker. Kill me now.”
“Not until your face is done. After that, I don’t care what you do.” Piper pushed me into my bathroom, flicking on the light and plopping me ass-first onto the bench. “Time for him to see what he’s been missing.”

EXCERPT:

Jemma stared out the window as Caid drove away. She couldn’t help but feel the added stress with each second he was gone. She looked down at the phone he had given her. He said he wouldn’t be able to answer for about two hours because his other was in his desk, but that he would text her when he got to work.

Then if she needed to hear his voice, she could call. The man who was watching the house seemed nice. He waved at Jemma from the driveway, and Jemma waved back. Caid said the agent was a good one, and wouldn’t enter the house unless he thought necessary.

That gave her a small comfort. She stepped away from the window and walked over to the bookshelf that held a few leisure books. She lifted a Nora Roberts from the collection, and took a seat on the couch.

She hadn’t even been sitting on that couch long enough to finish the first chapter when gunshots rang out, and Jemma’s heart began to pound. She ran to the window and saw the agent who had waved at her not minutes before lying face down in the driveway, while three armed men came for her.

Strangeways by Addison Cain:

The first time he’d screwed me, he’d marched me through my door by the elbow. Dirty uniform aprons littering the floor had been ignored, the pair of us walking over abandoned pizza boxes and fast food wrappers. Once at my lumpy bed, he’d bent me forward, ass up, still clothed.
He’d told me to stay.

I’d never had a man talk to me like that… or flip up my skirt, pull my panties down, and inspect me. And that’s exactly what he’d done. Kneeling, he’d leaned up close, tracing his fingers down the shape of my labia. He’d spread them apart to look deeper, and… I should have been mortified.

It’s not like I had expected a tryst. Heck, I was sweaty after the morning shift and wearing an old pair of panties.

It didn’t matter. Phi had complimented my scent, shape, and even posture profusely.
And then he had thrust in, right there, just like that. Both of us dressed, my cheek to the mattress. Hell, I still had my shoes on.

And I… I had liked it.

It wasn’t until my first orgasm that he’d altered position, undressing us both, and laying me back to take me face to face like a lover.

That was the first time I’d seen his unclothed body… and the part of him he’d put inside me.
Absently as he’d slipped it back in, I’d wondered if they always started fucking an earth woman from behind… so we might know how good that thing could feel and not scream when it waved our way.

And it had felt good. Better than good.

No one in my past had ever gotten me so worked up. Maybe it was the fact Phi’s genitals could change shape. Maybe it was the ring of short waving tentacle-like protrusions around it that stimulated clitoris, labia… anus.

Maybe it was that he knew how to fuck.

The Ghost in the Stars by Sophie Kisker:

Keelie is getting a spanking from Siridin.

“How many more?” she asked, trying to steel herself.

“A question like that will get you spanked between the legs if you ever ask it again.  And the answer will always be: until I feel like stopping.”

She whimpered.  She gripped his leg hard as he resumed the stinging slaps. She abandoned her thin thread of control, pleading and struggling. He merely gripped her tighter and kept going, until she was sobbing out her apologies and promising to never disobey again.

At last it stopped.

“Shh…”  he whispered as he stroked her back. “It’s over now.  You did fine.  And I know you’ll remember this lesson.”

“Yes, sir,” she hiccupped.

There was nothing angry in his tone.  There was only gentle touching now.  She was so confused, and it only made her weep harder.  She didn’t know if he understood, but he turned her over and held her against his chest without saying anything.

Eventually her crying stopped.

“You did good.  We’ll work on it.”

She shook her head.  “I’m never going to do anything wrong ever again.”

He started to say something, then stopped, and instead helped her to stand. She looked down at his thighs and to her horror saw a huge wet spot right over the bulge on his trousers.  She’d leaked during the spanking?

He followed her gaze and chuckled.

She was mortified.  Horrified.  She turned and ran into the fresher and slammed the door.  She stripped off the shirt and turned on the shower and soaped and rinsed until there was no lubrication anywhere between her legs.  Her humiliation was complete, and she vowed to stay in the shower for the rest of her life.

Draekon Rescue By Lee Savino:

EXCERPT 1

When you said mate in pairs,” I whisper, “did you mean what I think you did? Like all three of us at the same time?”

“Yes,” Tin says simply.

Oh God. Sex with two hot aliens. At once. Is it wrong that I’m intrigued? Turned on?
Stop it. Perv.

I cross my legs and press them together to relieve a faint prickle. The two Draekons are staring at me. I need to say something. Anything.

I volunteer as tribute.

EXCERPT 2

Tin’s expression softens. “Draekons transform once when they first recognize their mate,” he says. “After that, they need to claim her before they can transform at will.”

Claim their mate. Claim me.

“What does that mean? Are you going to bite my neck or something? Drain my blood under a full moon? Will you sparkle?” Okay, I might be getting just a tiny bit hysterical here.

Both men look confused. “To claim you, we will have sex with you,” Crothyr says. “At the same time.”

Dark Warlord by Cynthia Sax:

“Fighter Batu has vowed to protect the settlement.” Genine relayed that information, bracing for resistance. He was an unknown male, would soon kill her. Her friends wouldn’t like that.

“Fighter Batu is a monster.” Ema-974 spat on the white sand.

“Fighter Batu is an honorable warrior.” And he was a bit of the beast. Genine glanced at him. He waited alone, his sword in his right hand, a scowl on his primitive face. The male was ready for battle. That shouldn’t turn her on as much as it did. “You wouldn’t judge me harshly if I killed him in battle, would you?”

“No,” Ema-974 hastily answered. “You’re facing him so Ema-1006 won’t have to.”

“By taking her place, you’ve saved her lifespan.” Di-971 looked one wrong word away from bursting into tears. “We’ll be forever grateful to you.”

“Then don’t judge Fighter Batu harshly for killing me in battle.” Genine was a warrior. She knew she’d die with a weapon in her hands. Her fingers tightened around the hilt of her sword. It was smaller, lighter than Batu’s but the blade had inflicted its share of death. “It is my wish, my last wish, that he safeguard the settlement.”

Di-971 made a hurting sound.

“We will honor your wish.” Ema-974 lifted her chin. “But you could defeat him.”

“I won’t defeat him.” Genine watched as the victor of the previous battle exited the ring.

Once he was out of view of the audience, he rushed to a patch of sand, bent over, and vomited, that scent mixing with the aroma of urine and blood. Genine gazed at him with sympathy. First kills were always emotionally traumatic.

A scavenged ship panel had been modified to carry the losers out of the ring. The corpse was a crimson mess. The would-be warrior had been a mere solar cycle older than she’d been when she faced her first battle.

If her brothers hadn’t surrounded her, compensating for her errors, she would have met the same fate as the boy. She would have died on the battlefield.

Her brothers weren’t with her now and she was tired, so very tired of fighting alone. Her glance slid to Batu. She’d give him the show he requested, battling him and death with every part of her, but she accepted her future.

“You should leave.” She told the two females, not wanting them to see her die.

Di-971 sobbed.

“We’re staying.” Ema-974 insisted.

A horn sounded three times. The gates swung open. Genine hadn’t the time to argue with the females. The battle was starting.

Under Contract by Jaye Peaches:

He’s not Oparian. He towers above the local guests with muscles that bulge in every direction. He’s tinted his hair to fit in with the fair Oparians, however, his eyes are like black matter—bottomless pools of darkness. He continues to eyeball me, tracking my movements as I weave between people. I have this awful feeling in the pit of my stomach that his fascination with me isn’t a good thing. I swallow hard, take a few steps backwards and try to put bodies between him and me.

Someone grabs my arm. “Kleo?”

It’s Hort, one of the half-naked dancers I met at the last party. I vaguely remember dancing with him, and some other things I shouldn’t have done.

I use him as a barricade. “Hort, let’s dance.”

We swirl into the centre of the vast room. I lose sight of the strange alien who’s tracking me with his eyes. Feeling a relieved, I decide it’s probably my overactive imagination. Unfortunately, Hort switches to a different partner, leaving me dancing alone.

My arm is targeted again. This time the hand doesn’t let go when I turn. I jump. It’s the black eyed alien.

“What the—”

“Kleo Nikara?”

I nod. My tongue cleaves to the roof of my mouth. He has a deep voice and stares at me down the end of his straight nose.

“I am Brax Trasker. I’m authorised to extract you.” He tugs on my arm. “Let’s go.”

I freeze to the spot. I could challenge him, but I know he’s telling the truth. An extraction is just the kind of thing Tyan would do to get me home.

“Don’t play games with me, Kleo,” he growls.

“Or what?” I snap back. What could be possibly do that would have me scurrying along next to him?

“You really want to find out?” He loosens his grip a little. My confidence rises.

“Sure, go ahead. I don’t think you’ll do it.” I stick my chin out. So far, everyone nearby his unaware of our hushed conversation.

His fingers tightened again and he propels me towards the wall showing palm trees. He sits on a low chair and with a swift yank, pulls me towards him.

Before I can protest, he tosses me face down over his knee and flattens me down by pressing on my shoulders. When numerous pairs of feet turn to face our direction, I screech in alarm.

Promised to the Alien by Sue Lyndon:

He leaned down, until his face was level with hers. “I suggest you keep your opinion on the Earth-Tar-qua trade agreement to yourself, little human, unless you want to endure the strap on your wedding night. If I heard my mate speaking as you just did, I would punish her severely for disrespect. If not for the Tar-quans’ assistance, your dome cities on Earth would have perished long ago.”

Taken aback by his great size, she studied him for a moment. God, he was huge and muscular—intimidatingly so. Having glimpsed plenty of Tar-quans before, when they came to visit her dome city, she had not expected to see an alien this large here in the city, and she felt a stab of pity for whichever human woman found herself mated to this male. He was easily more than too heads taller than her, and aside from his size, this particular Tar-quan seemed overly stern.

An involuntary tingle raced across her bottom at the thought of enduring a punishment from the no-nonsense male who was glaring down at her. Despite her fear, her face heated and a sudden ache throbbed between her thighs. She quickly lowered her head, hoping he did not notice her blushing.

Sold to the Enemy by Sara Fields

His dark eyes found hers again, and she stilled. Despite her fear, her nipples hardened and her thighs shook, dampening with her arousal with every passing moment. Lifting her chin, she reminded herself to be courageous and brave, to represent Earth as a strong entity, no matter how it ended for her.

“Who are you?” she asked boldly, attempting to hide the shakiness in her voice by speaking as courageously as she could.

He smirked, narrowing his eyes back at her. His forehead wrinkled as he studied her, his eyes changing from a gray to a tumultuous red color.

“I’m only the leader of the Venassathi forces that you attacked. As such, I am well within my right to claim you. You see, my species has a special way to punish criminals. You’re to become my slave, to do with as I see fit,” he said softly but loud enough for her to hear plain as day.

Her eyes widened. He couldn’t be serious.

“Sold. Please, come claim what is yours, Commander Edagon,” said one of the aliens beside her.

Aubrie turned to run but saw nowhere to go. Clawed fingers reached out and grabbed her as another alien looped a long rope around her neck.

Gingerly, Edagon took the end of the rope in his hands and gently jerked her toward him. His strength knocked her completely off-balance and she fell into his arms. Then he grasped her chin, lifting it upward to face him.

Dark and stormy eyes met hers as he grinned at her.

“You’re mine now. I own you. Got it?”

She swallowed. There would be no escape for her. She was doomed.

 Excerpt:

Shocked doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel when I see Layton standing outside, wearing a large coat… and is she holding pom-poms?

After another insistent pounding on the door, I stride to it, yanking it open. “What the hell are you doing at my house? And who let you the fuck in my neighborhood?”

“I gave the guard my brother’s name and said I was taking important papers to you.”

“That’s… pretty damn smart.”

Throwing off the coat, Layton beams at me and puts her hands on her hips. “I came over to S-E-D-U-C-E you!”

My jaw drops and gets stuck to the floor. “You what?

Her brow furrows. “Did I spell seduce wrong?”

I look around, half-expecting that at any minute, someone with a camera phone will jump out at us and yell just kidding, because there’s no way in hell Layton Price should be on my doorstep wearing a cheerleading outfit and shaking her pom-poms at me.

Well, she hasn’t shaken them yet, but her tits are about to pop out of her top, and the skirt… the skirt leaves little to the imagination. Swear to God, with a faster turnaround, I’ll see her ass cheeks hanging out.

“You spelled it right.” I rub my jaw. “What do you want?”

She rolls her eyes. “I came here to seduce you.”

“Wearing that?” It’s not usually my thing, but…

“Should I shake my pom-poms for you first?”

Hell yes, you should. “No. Put your coat back on.” I bend over and pick it up, then place it around her shoulders. “You need to go home, LT.”

She juts out her bottom lip. “My Uber already left.”

“Not my problem.”

“Come on, Aiden,” she pleads, batting her lashes at me and letting the coat slide down her hot little body. “It’s cold outside.”

“Should have thought about that before you put,” I wave my hand at her, “that on.”

“I wore it just for you. The top’s too tight, though.” As if to torture me, she started bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet. “Oh, wow. I can’t believe the girls are staying put.”

Me either. “Good for them.” I try to shut the door, but she shoves a pom-pom in at the last minute. “Damn it, LT. I said go home.”

“You can’t leave me outside when it’s cold like this.”

Better than me taking advantage of her like this. “I’m not a gentleman, baby girl.”

“You don’t have to be a gentleman to be a decent person,” she points out. “And stop calling me baby girl. I’m neither one of those.”

She’s right. “Get your ass in here. You can wait in the foyer while I get an Uber for you.”

Pushing her way in, she grins and spins around, stumbling a couple of times in the process. “What do you think of the outfit? Be honest.”

“Mac,” she whispered, and tried to stop the tears and the uncontrollable shaking of her body. She shrugged his hands off her shoulders, and scrambled to the other side of the bed. Even as he held his hand in the air, the universal sign of surrender, a part of her wanted to reach for him, to let him hold her the way he had when she’d sneak into his dorm room at night.

Her head spun in confusion as she pressed her fingertips to her temples. She couldn’t do this again, couldn’t grieve for him all over again. Not on top of everything else.

“Delaney, sweetheart. You’re safe.” Those eyes of his that always reminded her of the dark blue ocean at sunset reassured her she was. She’d dreamt of them. Missed them.

God, the anger she felt toward him now was only a fraction of the love she’d felt for him all that time ago. Until he’d killed her brother when they were both twenty years old.

About Scarlett Cole

The tattoo across my right hip says it all really. A Life Less Ordinary. Inked by the amazingly talented Luke Wessman at the Wooster Street Social Club (a.k.a. New York Ink). Why is it important? Well, it sums up my view on life. That we should all aspire to live a life that is less boring, less predictable. Be bold, and do something amazing. I’ve made some crazy choices. I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada were I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay.

I’ve wanted to be a writer for a really long time. Check through my office cupboards or my computer and you’ll find half written stories and character descriptions everywhere. Now I’m getting the chance to follow that dream.

Excerpt:
Share a bed with Egan? After what had just happened? Could she do it? Had they done it before?

“I’m sleeping on the floor,” he said, as though sensing her thoughts.

She whirled around. “I wasn’t…I was wondering if we…” Her cheeks grew hot. How did she ask that question?

The corner of his mouth twitched. “No. We haven’t.”

“Oh.” That settled the question about being lovers. Disappointment gnawed at her. She wasn’t his student anymore. She was a grown woman, with mature needs and desires. “I’m perfectly fine if you want to sleep on the bed with me.” At least she thought she was. “Besides, you’ll be uncomfortable, and might kink your neck, or worse.”

He shrugged off her concern. “Comfort isn’t the issue.”

“Then what is?”

“Let’s just say I don’t need the distraction.”

Her? A distraction? His admission ignited a flare of hope. Without a second thought, she walked over to him, stood on her toes and planted a kiss on the same cheek she’d slapped earlier. His scruffy whiskers grazed her lips, searing a new memory into her brain.

“What was that for?” Frustration edged his voice.

“For slapping you. You didn’t deserve it. You were doing your job.” She returned to the bed and pulled down the covers, watching him out of the corner of her eye.

Egan stood rooted to the carpet for a moment. Then he strode decisively into the bathroom.

She smiled when she heard him swear just before slamming the door.

Until it’s not.

EXCERPT

“Just to be clear,” he says, his voice low and rough. “I’m breaking every rule I own with you. I don’t fuck women I’m protecting.”

“You could hand me over to someone else,” I suggest, “and it won’t matter.”

“Not a chance in hell,” he says, his hand sliding under my hair to cup my neck. “We’ll break the rules together.”

“I’m not sure I like how you do ‘together’.”

“I’ll make sure you do,” he promises, his lips slanting over mine, and this time he kisses me like he owns me, like he wants to control me, and like I really am his, like I belong to him, and in this very moment, I can honestly say

I am. I want him, and I can’t get enough of him.

And how can it ever be enough when he’s this damn impossibly hot, and he’s such a damn good kisser. The way he makes me want his mouth on every part of me and the way he makes me want my mouth on every part of him. And so, there it is. I’m his, but I’m going to make damn sure he’s mine, too. I kiss him back as passionately as he’s kissing me. I meet him stroke for stroke, arching into him, telling him I am here and present, and I’m not even close to afraid of him or of this. He doesn’t get to control me. He isn’t making me do this. I control me, and I choose him and this.

Arching into him, his shoulder holster and mine are in the way, and I want them gone. I want him naked. Just to be certain that he knows that’s where I want this to go, my hand presses between us and I stroke the hard line of his shaft. He groans low in his throat, a sexy rough sound that tells me he gets the point. This isn’t his show. It’s ours. It’s us together, or there is no show, with or without our clothes on.

His reaction is to tear his mouth from mine, his lips lingering there though, as if he wants to kiss me again, and just when I would kiss him again, he leans away just enough to shrug out of his jacket. I take one step backward, and do the same with my blazer. I reach down and pull off my boots and he does the same. Next, we disconnect our shoulder holsters, and the truth is, it’s the first time I’ve ever been with a man who is probably more armed than me. That feels significant when it perhaps is not. He’s not a cop. He’s not that kind of career complication. He’s a Green-fucking-Beret, and one hell of a hot one, for that matter.

He sets his weapon on the couch and snags my hand, walking me toward him and taking my holster and weapon as he does. “Just making sure you don’t end up shooting me before this is over,” he says, setting it with his before shackling my hip.

“I told you I’ll wait until after the orgasms.”

“Careful,” he says, a hint of a smile on his lips again. “I might hold that orgasm and you captive.”

“You can try,” I say, but my head isn’t in the game in this moment, and somehow my hand is on his face, right by the almost smile, that seems to have complicated what should be sex, an escape, a way to pull back the emotions that umbrella stirred in me. That smile reminds me that Mr. Robot is his wall, his way to cope with death, with whatever makes him protect Jesse Marks.

He captures my hand. “What are you thinking?”

“That you have on too many clothes,” I say, before I let this go someplace emotional, somewhere that two people like us never want to go.

My hands press under his shirt, but he doesn’t immediately give me what I want. He studies me for several beats and then kisses me hard and fast. Too fast, but I get over it when he pulls his shirt off. He cups my face and kisses me, his hand sliding up my shirt, his touch fire that has me helping him pull my shirt over my head. Letting him drag me to him where he now sits on the couch. I straddle him, my bra somehow gone by the time I’m there. But my hands press to his shoulders, and I hold him at bay. “I will still arrest you if I need to,” I promise. “This doesn’t change that.”

“You aren’t going to arrest me any more than you hate me.” He glances down at my chest, his gaze a hot caress as it rakes over my breasts, my nipples, before his eyes meet mine. “Because you know I’m protecting you.”

I ignore the ache between my thighs. Or I try. “From what? The slayer or the Jesse Marks damage patrol?”

His hand slides between my shoulder blades and he molds my chest to his. “Do you really want to talk about Jesse Marks right now? Because if you ask me questions, I’m going to ask you questions when I’d much rather be inside you, giving you as many reasons as I can not to arrest me. But you pick. Conversation or fucking.”

“Both,” I say, because it’s the truth. I want answers and I want the conversation my emotions are having in my head to shut up. “Fucking first.” I push away from him and stand up, unbuttoning my pants, sliding them down my hips, and he watches me with that unreadable, robot expression that is admittedly sexy as hell. I press my lips to his and that’s all it takes.

We are crazy, hot, kissing, his hands on my breasts, my nipples, my neck. I can’t touch him enough. I can’t feel him enough, can’t get close enough, and that’s new to me. I don’t need anyone the way I feel I need this man. I don’t want to need anyone this much, but it’s too late. At least, right here, right now, I do. He rolls us to our sides, facing one another, the wide cushion of the couch more than holding us and the next kiss isn’t fast and frenzied. It’s long, drugging, and somewhere in the midst of his tongue stroking my tongue, I end up on my back with the heavy weight of him on top of me…

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I love the Walker Security books from Lisa Renee Jones and Falling Under was a great end to the series.

Both Jewel and Jacob were career focused and liked the solitary life and then they met each other. They had great chemistry and were smokin’ hot together – even though he’s currently her bodyguard and should be focused on protecting her (regardless of the fact that Jewel isn’t taking the threat on her life seriously) and not becoming emotionally or physically involved with her.

I loved Jacob. He was dedicated, straight talking, cool – to the point that his team compare him to a robot – and very protective of Jewel.
Now Jewel, while I liked that she was determined to do the best she could when it came to her career, she frustrated the hell out of me at times with her stubbornness when it came to her protective detail and the seriousness of her situation.

The story was action packed, fast paced and had a few twists and secrets. Well written, as we’ve come to expect from LRJ, with great characters, an intriguing and engaging storyline, Falling Under gets 4 solid stars from me!

SPOTLIGHT TOUR ~ The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren

“Phenomenal. Gets my highest recommendation!”

LORELEI JAMES, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author

BLURB:

It’s been twelve years since tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School. Only a few students survived that fateful night—a group the media dubbed The Ones Who Got Away.

Liv Arias thought she’d never return to Long Acre—until a documentary brings her and the other survivors back home. Suddenly her old flame, Finn Dorsey, is closer than ever, and their attraction is still white-hot. When a searing kiss reignites their passion, Liv realizes this rough-around-the-edges cop might be exactly what she needs…

Liv’s words cut off as Finn got closer. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she’d known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package and the look in his deep green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence.

Setup: This scene takes place during an interview for the documentary the survivors are participating in.

“He cursed at me, told me to stay put, and wedged a chair against the outside of the door.” Liv rubbed her lips together. “After that, I heard more shots.”

“Presumably when he and Trevor shot at”—Daniel checked his notes—“Finn Dorsey and Rebecca Lindt.”

Liv reached for her water and took a slow sip, trying not to hear the sounds of that night in her head. The gun going off in that steady, unrelenting way. The cries for help. A Mariah Carey song still playing in the gym. Her own rapid breath as she huddled in that closet and did—nothing. Frozen. For five hours. Only the chair against the door had alerted the SWAT team someone was in there after everything was over. “Yes. I didn’t see any of it, but I know Finn was shot protecting Rebecca. You’d have to ask Rebecca about that part.”

“I did ask her. I plan to ask Finn, too.”

Liv’s head snapped upward at that, the words yanking her out of the memories like a stage hook. “What?”

“Mr. Dorsey is my next interview.”

She stared at Daniel, not sure if she’d heard the words right. “Finn’s here?”

She barely resisted saying, He exists? The guy had become a ghost after the awful months following the shooting. He’d gotten a ton of press for being a hero, and the media had played up the story to the nth degree. The star athlete and son of a local business owner taking a bullet for his date. But within a year, his family had rented out their house and moved out of town, running from the spotlight like everyone else. No one wanted to be that brand of famous.

Liv hadn’t heard anything about him since, and he never gave interviews. She’d decided that he had probably moved to some remote tropical island and changed his name. She would’ve skipped town back then, too—if she’d had the funds to do it.

“Yes,” Daniel said, tipping his head toward the spot over her left shoulder. “He got here a few minutes ago. He’s declined to be on camera, but he’s agreed to an interview.”

With that, she couldn’t help but turn and follow the interviewer’s gaze. Leaning against the wall in the shadows of the darkened gym was a man with dark hair, black T-shirt, and jeans. He looked up from the phone in his hand, as if hearing his name, and peered in their direction. He was too far away for her to read his expression or see the details of his face, but a jolt of bone-deep recognition went through her. “Oh.”

“Hey, we should invite him to join you for this part since you were both close to the same place at the same time. We’ll get a more accurate timeline that way.”

“What? I mean, no, that’s not—”

“Jim, can you turn off the camera? I think this will be important. Mr. Dorsey,” Daniel called out, “would you mind if I asked you a few questions now? The camera’s off.”

The cameraman went about shutting things down, and Finn pushed away from the wall.

Liv’s heart leapt into her throat and tried to escape. She’d avoided Finn after everything had happened, not just from hurt, but because seeing his face, even on television, would trigger the flashbacks. But she wasn’t that girl anymore. Seeing Finn after all these years shouldn’t concern her. Still, she had the distinct urge to make tracks to the back door. She slid out of the director’s chair she’d been sitting in. “I think I’ve probably given you everything I have to add. I wasn’t in the gym, and my story is really just me cowering in the closet. Not that interesting—”

Her words cut off, her voice dying a quick death, as Finn got closer and some of the studio lights caught him in their glare. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she’d known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package. The smooth face was now dusted with scruff, and the look in his deep-green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence. A thousand things were in those eyes. A thousand things welled up in Liv.

Finn Dorsey had become a man. And a stranger. The only familiar thing was the sharp, undeniable kick of awareness she’d always had anytime the guy was around. Time had only made the effect more potent. Without thinking, her gaze drifted to his hands. Big, capable hands that had once held her. When she’d known him, he’d always worn his football championship ring from junior year. The cool metal used to press against the back of her neck when he kissed her. Now he wore no rings at all. She took a breath, trying to reel in that old, automatic response to him, and smoothed her hands down the sides of her now-wrinkled pencil skirt.

Daniel held out his hand. “Mr. Dorsey, so glad you could make it.”

Finn returned the offered handshake and gave a brief nod. “Not a problem.”

Then, his gaze slid to Liv. His brow wrinkled for a second, but she could tell the moment he realized who she was. Something flickered over his face. A very distinct look. Like she caused him pain. Like she was a bad memory.

Because she was. That was all they were to each other at this point.

“Liv.”

She pushed words past her constricted throat. “Hi, Finn.”

SPOTLIGHT TOUR

Collision Course
Body Shop Bad Boys #4
by Marie Harte

BLURB:

He’s always had a way with the ladies

She won’t give him the time of day

Sparks fly when two hearts in motion collide.

Florist Joey Reeves is working overtime to stay away from Lou Cortez, the ace mechanic with a reputation for irresistible charm. She’s a single mom with enough on her plate—the last thing she needs is entanglement with the hottest guy in town…

“Well, hello there.”

Joey glanced up and froze. The man who’d been haunting her sleep looked even better in the hard light of day.

“H-hello.” She coughed. The guys who worked at Webster’s Garage all looked larger than life, covered in tattoos, muscles, and that indefinable sense of danger they wore like a second skin. But this guy, the tall, Latin lover with dark-brown eyes and lips made for kissing, had ensnared her.

EXCERPT:

Ten minutes and a text later, Joey drove to Becky’s house and planned to indulge in some girl time. Maybe Becky could help her understand her fascination for Lou.

She arrived at Becky’s soon enough. Her friend shared a condo with a teacher friend. As Joey entered, said teacher left with a smile.

“She’s got a date tonight.” Becky motioned to the coffee table, laden with wine, crackers, and cheese. “And apparently now so do I. Dig in.” Becky lowered her voice and said, suggestively, “Welcome to my pad, sweetness. Boom chicka bow bow.”

Joey laughed. “Stop. That only works when I’m the plumber or the delivery guy.”

Becky sighed. “Guess I’ll have to save that for Trent, who’s out of town this weekend. How the hell am I supposed to seduce him when he’s helping his grandmother move?”

“Aw, that’s so nice.”

“Nice ain’t sexy. Gah.” Becky munched on a cracker. “But I’m excited to hang with you. I can’t believe you finally got paroled. So Brandon the criminal is hanging with the other hooligans, eh? Way to dodge that bullet, Joey.”

“Funny.” Joey paused. “Ah, there’s one thing. I can’t stay past eight. I have a…date.”

Becky stared. “Not with sexy Lou again.”

Joey’s silence answered for her.

“Oh my God. Dinner must have gone well the other night. Tell me.”

Joey swallowed. “He was polite, charming. He looked amazing. He’s really built.” She flushed, feeling that “built” inside her all over again. “We talked then walked after dinner. He paid too. And he was so nice, so sweet. We held hands.”

“Romantic.” Becky sighed.

And then last night he bent me over the flower table and made me see stars. Yeah, romantic.

Becky hugged a pillow to her chest, her expression dreamy until her eyes narrowed on Joey’s face. “Why are you blushing so hard? I mean, your face is really pink.” Her eyes widened. “Holy crap. You had sex with him, didn’t you?”

“N-no.” She cleared her throat. “That’s a little personal, don’t you think?”

“Oh my God, you did. You did! Joey Reeves got some lovin’. Hot damn. It’s about friggin’ time!”

Still feeling overheated, Joey glanced up at her friend. “You can’t tell anyone.” She swore. “I can’t believe it happened. It just…I’m still trying to process it.”

“What’s to process? You fell for the magic in his man-wand.” Becky shrugged, as if it was no big thing. “Happens to the best of us. Well, except for me and Trent the Boy Scout,” she grumbled.

Joey was stuck on man-wand. “What did you call it?”

Becky burst out laughing. “If you could see your face. Hey, you should hear half the things they call it. Fuckstick, staff of life, lady’s lollipop. I could go on.”

“Please, don’t.” Joey grimaced.

“I know, right? Man-wand is so much better.” Becky paused. “Is it, Joey? Is it better? Or did you lollipop him? You know, like what we in the know call it—the hand and blow.”

Joey’s face threatened to melt clean off. She had a feeling she could fry eggs on her cheeks. “I can’t believe I’m having this conversation.”

“Me neither.” Becky grinned. “You’re like beet-red right now. Or fire-engine red, maybe. Hey, did you guys remember to wear a ‘raincoat’?” Becky snickered.

“Stop talking, please.”

“Just tell me this. Do you want to do it again? As in, was it any good? Tell me, and I’ll shut up.”

“It was amazing, okay?” Joey growled. “So great I can’t stop thinking about doing it again. And I don’t tend to do well with men and sex.”

“That’s because you live like a nun in the Church of Reeves, presided over by Father Andrew and Sister Amy. God, it’s a wonder you have a kid with all the guilt your parents keep throwing on you. And after eight—”

“Nine.”

“—years you’d think they’d let it go.”

“So maybe I was just desperate. It was a one-shot deal, right?” So why am I thinking of being with him again when I know it’s a mistake?

Becky shrugged and ate more crackers and cheese. “I think you should be desperate again. If you want him, have him. You have a right to be happy. Take joy in his man parts. Go forth, just don’t prosper.”

Joey choked on a laugh. “Yes, Mom.”

“Ouch.”

“Don’t worry. We were safe.” Rather, he was safe. She’d been so far gone she hadn’t thought about protection until it was almost too late, which was just stupid. Granted, she wouldn’t have babies with Lou while on birth control. But she could always chance a disease with an unknown. She’d been so wrapped up in the moment, lost to her body’s needs.

But Lou had thought ahead.

Which put his actions in a different light. Had he expected to have sex with her?

“What’s that look?” Becky asked.

“He was ready for it. Us, I mean.”

Becky looked confused.

“He was prepared.

“Jesus, Joey. You can say condom and not burn in hell. So he was prepared. Good for him.”

“You think?”

“Who cares why he had the condom? He had it, you had fun. And if you’re lucky, you’ll have more fun tonight.” Becky poured herself some wine. “Have some for me, would you? Because I’m clearly not getting any.” She cocked her head, considering something. “Unless Will’s home.”

“Becky.”

Becky laughed. “Nah. Will’s in Italy this month.” She chuckled. “Kidding, kidding. I’m wanting Trent. I am. Really.”

They laughed some more, and when Joey excused herself for the bathroom, a new text popped up. Lou had decided on the place. An address in Rainier Valley, where he’d mentioned he lived.

She didn’t know what to think, so she took care of business and blanked her mind.

She returned to the living room. “He invited me to his place.”

Becky blinked. “You were gone maybe five minutes.”

“He just texted me.”

“So go.”

“To his place?”

“Why not? Is he rapey or something?”

“No.” He’d been a perfect gentleman since she’d known him. And even after sending her to heaven, twice, he’d ended their impromptu session at the flower shop with a hug and by walking her to her car. “No. He’s nice. Sexy. Too—”

“He’s exactly what you need.” Becky nodded. “Give me your phone.”

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Collision Course is the fourth book of the Body Shop Bad Boys and it’s Lou & Joey’s story.

We’ve seen a lot of Lou over the course of the previous books and he’s come across as a real charmer and ladies man. Growing up with a load of female relatives seems to have given our mechanic an insight to how to treat a gal and he has no trouble finding company. Meeting Joey was a game changer for him!

Joey is a great character. Hard working, she’s been abandoned and left by her family after getting into trouble when she was younger but that hasn’t stopped her from trying to make the best life she can for her and her son.

This pair really work together and they have great chemistry and attraction and while quite different – he’s outgoing and open and she’s quiet and reserved – they gel well. I love how Marie Harte develops her characters and that they aren’t perfect – they mess up like everyone else and then have to try and fix things!!

We caught up with the other guys and gals from the series and, if I’m not mistake, met a couple of peeps who we might find out more about in the future… fingers crossed!!

I’m really bummed that this is the last of our garage ‘Bad Boys’ books as this series keeps getting better and I’m hoping that MH either continues on with more books or starts a spin off so we can find out what happens with the other guys we’ve met so far!

For me, this book gets 5 bad boy stars

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: January 16th

The single dad & the nanny …

Burned by an ex with a wandering eye, Austin Rhodes has sworn off women. His sole focus is his young daughter – and despite his good intentions, the little girl’s live-in nanny. He hired Mia Atwood to care for his child but he finds himself lusting after her instead. Keeping his distance isn’t easy but he’s determined to be a gentleman. Until Mia’s past comes back to haunt her and she’s in need of Austin’s brand of protection. Suddenly she’s his in every sense of the word — and he’ll do whatever it takes to shield the woman who tempts him beyond reason.

Excerpt:

“So what’s your end game?”

”She paused, lowering the cup from her lips. “You’ll laugh. Or at the very least you won’t think it’s overly ambitious.”

He ignored his coffee, more interested in the fascinating woman sitting beside him. “Try me.”

“Someday I’d like a family of my own. A lot of kids not all mine. Kids who’ve been in foster care too long and never adopted because everyone wants babies.”She rubbed her cup between her palms, not meeting his gaze. “See? Nothing all that enterprising, like becoming a teacher or succeeding in business.”

He couldn’t stop staring, enthralled not just by her beauty but by her heart. “I think it’s inspiring, what you want to do.”And the man by her side when she fulfilled her dreams would be one lucky SOB. “Not for me, because been there, done that…the family and marriage thing, but I’m sure it can work for the right couple.”He shrugged, realizing he’d admitted way too much. “I hope you find what you’re looking for,”he said, meaning it.

She glanced down, her gaze sweeping over her watch on her wrist. “Oh! It’s time to pick up Bailey.”She crumbled the napkin beside her and picked up her cup as she rose to her feet.

He stood, joining her as they tossed their half-finished drinks in the trash. They headed to the car and he beat her there, opening the passenger door before she could grab the handle herself. He turned back and she stopped short. He caught her before she bumped into him, grasping her around the waist and pulling her close. She sucked in a surprised breath but didn’t back away, her face inches from his. Her mouth so damned close.

He knew better, he really did but he was tired of denying himself what he wanted and his body was definitely on board. He waited for a sign she wasn’t right there with him. If she pulled back or jerked away, he’d apologize and they’d move forward from there. Instead she swayed toward him, sealing her fate.

He grasped her waist, anchoring himself by touching her, the soft sweater doing little to hide her slender body or delicate curves. He tipped his head, sliding his tongue across her lips and with a soft moan, she parted her mouth and let him inside. She tasted of vanilla and coffee, a sweet flavor that was all Mia.

Their tongues touched, tangled, and his body came alive with a hunger he hadn’t known before.

She raised her arms, hands coming to his biceps, holding on for a brief second before she gave in and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close, giving him all the excuse he needed to deepen the kiss. He tilted his head and consumed her, swirling his tongue around the further recesses of her mouth.

He had no wall, no car door to push her against, which was a good thing because he wouldn’t have been able to control himself if he crushed his body against hers.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I’m officially a sucker for a Carly Phillips read…. the woman has me hooked!

Tempt Me is the 2nd book in the Bodyguard Bad Boys series (I have to admit I haven’t read the first book but after snippets in this one I’ll definitely be going back to check it out!)

I really enjoyed Austin and Mia’s story. Their chemistry was always there even though neither acted on it due to their responsibility and commitment to Bailey, Austin’s little girl. When they did eventually give in to their feelings and desires they lit up the page!

There was some intrigue and suspense that came from Mia’s past and Austin had to deal with a witch of an ex and these elements added to the story well. Austin’s need to protect Mia came from more than just his instinct as a bodyguard and that was more than obvious.

Bailey was a wee sweetie, the care and affection in the relationship between her and Mia was fab to read about.

Another fun, enjoyable and hot read from Carly Phillips. I’m looking forward to what is next from who is becoming one of my favourite authors…..

A solid 4* recommended read.
