RELEASE BOOST – Jock Blocked (Copper Valley Fireballs #1) by Pippa Grant

Title: Jock Blocked

Series: Copper Valley Fireballs #1
Author: Pippa Grant

Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 19, 2020

BLURB:

She can’t let him score…

Call it superstition, but when a guy bats as hot as Brooks Elliott, you don’t mess with what’s working. And what’s working is him keeping his pants zipped and doing all of his scoring on the field.
So when I hear he’s planning to ditch his V-card now that he’s been traded to baseball’s lovable losers—aka my home team and my reason for living every March through October—I do what any rational, dedicated, obsessed fan would do.
I make a plan to stop him.
But the thing about stopping him is that it requires spending time with him.
Lots. And lots. And lots of time.
And the more time I spend with him, the more I like him. Not as the guy who’s going to help save my favorite team and finally bring home a championship ring, but as the guy who’s helping me in my quest to bring back the team’s old mascot. Who also loves making pancake and bacon sandwiches. And who would do almost anything for his love of the game.
But after all this time of jock-blocking him…do I even have a chance?
And if I do, are we both destined to a life of celibacy in the name of winning?

Jock Blocked is a home run of a romantic comedy featuring the world’s most superstitious sports fan, baseball’s oldest virgin hero, a rogue meatball, an adorable puppy with a cussing problem, and the best lovable losers. It stands alone and comes with a happily ever after more satisfying than a game-winning grand slam.

EXCERPT:

Mackenzie Montana, aka a woman on a mission
I never meant to become a criminal. But in the grand scheme of life, I don’t think I’m
technically engaging in criminal behavior.
At least, if it is, you could call it a crime of passion.
And I am very passionate in my belief that while the Fireballs need to make changes to halt their record-breaking streak of being the worst losing team ever to play professional baseball, they don’t need to do it with a new mascot. Which is why I decided to take two weeks off work and fly to Florida for spring training, where I’m not saying that I’ve snuck into my home team’s ballpark after hour to steal the worst proposed mascot costume, but I’m not saying I haven’t either.
Meatballs?
They actually let a meatball make the final cut.
I needed at least another full season to get over the fact that the new Fireballs ownership killed the last mascot, and here they are, letting fans vote on replacing
Fiery the Dragon with
flaming meatballs.
I snort to myself while I creep through the darkened concrete hallways with a flaming
meatball swallowing half of my body.
If you’re going to steal a giant meatball costume, it’s best to act like you know what
you’re doing. And striding out of here with zero shame means two things—one, no one’s going to stop me, and two, even if they do, I’
m incognito.
It’s the perfect crime to counter the crime of killing Fiery.
I’m one turn away from the door that I left propped open for myself after hiding out in
the family bathroom after today’s game when voices drift toward me.
One male.
One female.
Neither is familiar, but as I get closer to my final turn, I realize the voices are
between me and my exit.
No biggie.
I got this.
I can stroll on by, flash a thumbs-up, pretend like I’m heading out to prank the
Fireballs at the team compound they’re all staying at, or to make a fast-food run for publicity.
Acting like I know what I’m doing inside this mascot costume is as easy as breathing. When you’ve seen thousands of baseball games in your lifetime, it’s not hard.
So I turn the corner.
And then I suck in a surprised breath, because that’s Brooks Elliott.
Oh. My. God.
Brooks Elliott.
The Fireballs’ newest acquisition. Like, so new he arrived yesterday. A mid-spring training acquisition, which is practically unheard of.
He plays third base, and he hits the ball like it’s evil incarnate and he’s an avenging
angel and it’s his job to send that evil into another dimension.
He could be the reason we legitimately have a shot at making it to the post-season.
And I am not going to hyperventilate like I did the last time I was face-to-face with a
baseball player.
Pretending to be a mascot?
I got this.
Talking to the players?

It’s like talking to the gods.

RELEASE BLITZ – Faking It with the Frenemy by Nadia Lee

Title: Faking It with the Frenemy
Author: Nadia Lee

Genre: Contemporary Romance/Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 22, 2020
Blurb
Until today, I never had to fake anything with Wyatt Westland—owner of a demon
cat and my high school sweetheart-turned-nemesis-turned-billionaire tech genius. But I wouldn’t be here by his side right now if I could’ve found him a date.
I swore I’d never let myself get involved with Wyatt again after he broke my heart all those years ago, but he moved in next door with his adorable daughter. And the sexy single dad vibe he has going on began to thaw my inner ice queen—the one I perfected just for him.

Then my eccentric boss asked me to find Wyatt a date to his ex-wife’s wedding. My boss even put a cherry on top of a huge bonus, and I couldn’t resist. Of course, not a single one of the heiresses I set Wyatt up with worked. I’m convinced he ruined each date on purpose, leaving me with no choice but to step up and stand in as his date myself. How hard can it be to fake it for just one day, even if every moment reminds me of all the ways I fell for him the first time?

Faking It with the Frenemy is a second chance, lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers reunion romance with a matchmaking mom determined to make the heroine marry for money (love is optional), a billionaire single-dad hero who was the heroine’s first love, a cat that wants to be a queen, a dog that loves what the cat brings every morning, and a wild party with certain very inappropriately named treats from Japan.

Excerpt
I hop out of bed. The stupid alarm didn’t go off! No time to figure out why; I need to get ready for work, pronto!
I take the fastest shower in history, then wrap my hair in a turban so the towel can absorb the water. Not for the first time, I thank my stars that I won the genetic hair jackpot. It doesn’t go poufy or frizzy. Just stays nice and sleek without needing to be blow-dried. Another huge towel wrapped around me, I trot to the kitchen to grab my vitamin C serum from the fridge. I put it on every morning and night. Looking my best is part of my new identity, and that means taking care of my skin, among other things.
Just as I finish patting the serum onto my face and put the bottle back in the fridge, the door to my apartment unlocks. Adrenaline spikes, making my heart race.
A burglar?
I dismiss the possibility as soon as it pops into my head. Who breaks into a place this early? It’s barely seven in the morning. Criminals would be doing it at night or when people are at work. Not to mention the apartment complex has a locked entry that requires you to have a key or be buzzed in.
It’s probably just Evie, my absentee roommate. She somehow got finagled into a Vegas marriage, but plans to move back in as soon as she manages to divorce her crazy boss-cum-husband. Hopefully she isn’t here for moral support, because I don’t have time to lend a shoulder right now.
The door opens, and a man in a black T-shirt and jeans walks in. A baseball cap is pressed low on his head, covering most of his face.
Oh God! It is a burglar!
Cold fear pounds through my heart. I freeze, clutching the towel in my fist as lurid crime headlines flash through my head.
Home Burglary Gone Wrong: Secretary Slaughtered.
Boyfriend Sexually Assaults His Ex.
Female Body Found, Assaulted.
Panic spikes. I have no weapon!
I take a fraction of a second to take stock of my situation. Can’t run back to the bedroom—the kitchen’s in a nook and the fridge is closer to the door. The scum’s going to get me—he has a straight path to grab me if I make a move back to the bedroom. What can I use as a weapon? A knife? I don’t know how to throw it right, so that’d be like handing it over. Jut slash at him? What if he knocks it out of my hand and uses it against me? Besides, a kitchen isn’t the best place to fight. I have a gas stove, and every action-flick kitchen fight ends with a gas explosion.
But there’s a dirty wine glass in the sink. Yes! I grab it and hurl it at the invader with a scream.
“Shit!” he says, flinching and raising an arm in reflexive defense.
To my shock and irritation, the glass doesn’t even hit him. It flies low and shatters on the wooden floor at his feet.
Damn it! It was my best chance at hurting the asshole, and I blew it! Should I just go for a knife anyway? I really wish I had a gun! Or a nice, large, intruder-fending-off boyfriend like Jo was saying yesterday.
“What the hell?” he demands.
Did he just say what the hell, like he’s shocked and upset?
“Kim?”
Wait, what? “How do you know…” Finally he looks up, and I see the still-gorgeous blue eyes and sexy mouth. The broad forehead and lean jaw line. Recognition hits me like a cast iron skillet in the face. “Wyatt? What are you doing here?” I demand, my terror turning into outrage.
“I live here.”
“No, you don’t! This is my apartment.”
“But the—”
“No!” I cut him off before he can make any excuses or weird explanations. He’ll probably say something asinine, like how he won this place on a bet, too.
My phone is charging on the small table by the couch. I’m calling the cops and getting this crazy bastard arrested. Getting a wedding date will be the least of his worries. Hopefully he’ll resist, so the cops will have a reason to rough him up. I’m not asking for blood—just some good, solid punches. Maybe a broken jaw.
Gritting my teeth, I come around the kitchen counter fast. Wyatt’s eyes widen—ha! Bet he wasn’t expecting that!—and he starts toward me.
Oh, crap! I leap for the phone, in my best grand jeté style, but he catches me with my toes still a few inches above the floor. His arms squeeze so tight that the air gets forced out of my lungs like ketchup from a squirt bottle.
Oh my God. He’s going to crush me until I pop.
“Let…me…go,” I wheeze, squirming and kicking, refusing to die like this.
But the muscles I’m straining against feel like bunched piano wire, and I make about as much progress against Wyatt as I would against a piece of heavy construction equipment. This close, he smells like fresh pine soap and laundry detergent, plus a hint of mint toothpaste on his breath. I should’ve taken up karate instead of ballet. Then I could’ve broken his nose and legs by now, and been inhaling the scent of his blood instead.
“Will you stop?” he says. “You’re about to cut your feet up.” He moves, and there’s a definite crunching noise from the floor.
The wine glass.
Wyatt carries me toward the sofa. “Damn it, Kim. The superintendent gave me the key to this place. I’m moving in today.”

Excerpt:

“Do you want to dance?”

She nods.

I hear my brother make a noise and pretend I didn’t. She said yes, and I’m going to cling to that.

Here might be the last time I ever get to hold her in my arms, and I’m going to take it.

“I love this song.”

I love you.

“Why is that?” I ask.

Her arms move to my chest, and I wonder if she can feel the pounding of my heart. My nerves are bowstrings, being pulled taut before the arrow is ready to fly. Everything inside of me is strained, but I keep it together.

Sydney and I move, the world falling away as it always does when I am with her. Gone is the hurt of my past, the uncertainty of my present, and the regret of the future ahead. Right now, I have her.

She’s here, in my arms, where she’s meant to be.

I don’t care if the sky lights on fire because she’s all I see.

“Listen to her.” Sydney’s voice is quiet and pensive. “Listen to her talk about him giving up and her asking him to stay.”

And I do. I hear the words, and I swear that she’s singing to us.

“Don’t tell me it’s too late,” Emily croons.

“I won’t give up that easy.

Don’t call me darlin’ and tell me that you’re leavin’.

Don’t walk away.

Stop pushing me when you know you want to hold on.

It could be so easy for us, baby.

I’ve been here, but you don’t see me.

Don’t let go if you’re not ready for me to walk away.” The acoustic guitar takes over as her voice drifts off.

“Syd,” I say her name as both a plea to let go and hold on.

Her hands grip my shirt tighter. “Don’t. Don’t let go. Don’t push me away.”

I see the tears in her eyes. I don’t want to push her away. I want to hold her close, kiss her senseless, and love her until she knows it in every fiber of her being that she’s everything I want.

I see her. I feel her. I know her in my bones, but I won’t be able to be who she needs.

No matter how much I wish it weren’t the case, I can’t give her the life she wants with a husband and babies. All I can offer her is a friendship that has an expiration date because once my six-months is up and she has moved, I know I won’t allow myself to see her again.

The song ends, and the two of us stop moving, just watching the other.

The spell that was surrounding us seems to break and awareness fills her gaze. Her fingers loosen and drop from where they had been clutching my shirt and she takes a step back.

The loss of her is felt everywhere. My heart doesn’t seem to beat as strongly, the cold hits my chest, making it hard to breathe, and the emptiness from her loss leaves me weak.

For those minutes I held her, the world made sense. And now … I need to leave.

Number one rule of ride sharing as a female driver? Don’t fall for the mysterious man riding in the backseat.Lenora

I came across crazy people on the daily giving rides to strangers for a living.
I carried pepper spray and I wasn’t afraid to use it. But one gorgeous male in a fake mustache and a story he wasn’t willing to share, and I was ready to climb in the backseat to peel his layers. He’s a distraction I don’t need as I graduate online college and try to get my first professional job so I can move
out of my parents’ house before I’m thirty. I’m so close to realizing my dreams I can taste it.

Jayden

I should have never hit on my driver. Even if she was the hottest thing I’d seen in cutoff jean shorts in maybe forever. I wasn’t in Auburn Hill for personal reasons and getting involved with the locals came ill-advised as I set up my new business. I probably shouldn’t know she curses like a sailor in bed considering I wind up interviewing her for a position in my company. Now I’m thinking of all kinds of positions I can put her in. Maybe she’ll settle for being an employee with benefits…
But none of that matters now.

Because I fired her.

In front of the whole town.

On her first day.
Pretty sure there’s no coming back from that.

Excerpt

“So you’re telling me that I’m sleeping with the guy who might be my potential boss, while
applying to be the head sex toy maker in some sort of twisted Santa’s workshop company in the small, conservative town I grew up in as the pastor’s daughter?”
Jayden’s lips twitched. I knew that look. It was his look when he found something hilarious, but was trying to act stoic. Usually it set my panties on fire, but not now. Not when I had such hopes and dreams for this job. Not when
the situation was so ridiculous it couldn’t be salvaged.
“Essentially, yes.”
I threw my hands in the air. “Oh, well, then in that case. Great. Sign me up.”
His eyes narrowed. “Are you being sarcastic?”
Mine narrowed right back at him. “Are you being purposefully obtuse?”
The lips twitched again. “That’s kind of my MO if you haven’t noticed.”
I sighed long and loud.
“Need a hug?” Jayden asked innocently.
I jumped to my aching feet. “No! I need a goddamn job!”
Jayden jumped up too, sending his chair flying into the wall behind him.
“Great! Run my company and I promise I’ll pay you extremely well.”
I grasped the top of my head with both hands. “You don’t get it. We’re sleeping together.”
Jayden came closer, the walk of those approaching a wild animal. “I know. And
it kind of freaks me out too, but I trust you, Nora. After last night I was thinking about what you said. How I overcame the issues with my ex, but really, I haven’t. I haven’t learned to trust again, but with you…well, I finally want to trust again.” His hands cupped my face and my knees went wobbling again for an entirely different reason.
“We’ll sign contracts and non-disclosures and all kinds of things to protect us both, but take this job, Nora.”
His gaze bore into mine, begging me to take the job and the man. More than anything I wanted to say yes and celebrate by peeling that suit off Jayden one piece at a time like a Christmas present. I mean, really, how perfect was this whole situation? I got a man who set my soul on fire AND a dream job marketing
a brand-new company?

Blurb:

Ten years ago Lincoln Calloway broke me.

A single, terrifying phone call is all it takes to change the trajectory of my life. But what I thought would be a short trip home, quickly turns more serious as the secrets my family has tried to keep hidden finally come to light. Starting with their new handyman. Lincoln Calloway…my best friend, my biggest heartbreak.

After ten years, he’s changed from the boy who ran away to a dangerously sexy man with the body of a marble statue. His insanely blue eyes and chiseled features may have everyone fooled, but I’ve been down this road with Lincoln before. He made it clear how he felt back then, so why is he so determined to fix the broken pieces of my heart when he’s the one who shattered it in the first place?

Enjoy this steamy standalone where the lines between love and hate are blurred. Once best friends, Macey and Lincoln will have to trudge through their pasts in order to find their way to a happily ever after.

Excerpt:

“I have your suitcase.”

Lincoln stands behind me, both of his muscled arms folded in front of his chest, my suitcase on the ground beside him. My stomach twists, the pounding of my heart an indication of the effect he still has on me. It’s bullshit, I’m over this. I have to be over this. I can’t go through that pain again—I don’t know that I’ll survive another fall.

“Thanks for delivering it,” I say and walk down the sidewalk. “You can go now.”

“Actually,” he says, leaning down to lift my suitcase before I can grab it. “I’m staying here too.”

He might as well have just told me he was Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. I gape at him, eyes wide, mouth actually hanging open, as I process what he just said.

“There’s no way.”

“There is a way. I’m renovating the apartment above the café, and Gram said I could stay here in the spare room while I do.”

“The spare room—there is no spare room.”

He grins, showing white teeth in a smile that was more carnal than amused. “I know. Welcome home, roomie. Maybe later we can give each other manicures. I’ve been working on my French braid.”

Walking past me, Lincoln pulls out a set of keys and slips one into the lock before pushing the bright door open and waiting for me to walk inside.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I can’t stop myself. “You just thought you could immerse yourself in my life? Do you not have one of your own? What happened to Patricia?” I ask, immediately regretting it.

All traces of amusement disappear from his face as he glares at me. I know it was a low blow. I’ve heard all about how his high school sweetheart left him in California to run off with some wannabe musician.

His divorce was the frontline of gossip for our small town when he returned. I also happen to know just how broken up he was about it, how depressed he was when he came back. My friend Charlie had told me all of it.

Lincoln loved Patricia. I never understood it, but I could see it every time I saw them. Which, unfortunately for me, had been all the damned time. It was impossible to escape anyone when it only takes five minutes to get from one side of Main to the other.

“Lin—”

Hurt flashes in his beautiful eyes then dissipates like smoke in the wind, no residue left behind. He lifts the corner of his mouth in a lopsided grin that turns my insides to mush. “Still jealous after all these years, sweetheart?”

Jealous? Are you fucking kidding me?” I seethe and take a step closer, jamming a finger into his hard chest. “You’re accusing me of being jealous?”

He shrugs, fueling the fire inside of me. “If the shoe fits.” Turning on his heel, he throws up a hand in a quick wave before heading back to his truck.

“You have no right!” I yell back at him, ready to give him an ear full. But by the time I process what I want to say, he fires up the engine of his truck, and the sound blocks out my voice.

He pulls away from the curb and disappears down the street, leaving me pissed the hell off and feeling incredibly guilty.

Dammit.

Title: Vivian, Midnight Call Girl
(Iron Orchids)

Danielle Norman

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 2, 2020
Goodreads:

Blurb:

Drunk dialing at it’s finest…

All it took was a couple bottles of champagne…
And a fully charged cellphone,
For me to go from widow to call girl.
Talking to a stranger in the middle of the night was the push I needed.
To feel something again.
Something safe.

It’s not like I will ever run into him.
We don’t even know each other… yet.
Aaron Skye returns my call the next day,
Sending my well-ordered world for a spin.
Now I’m sober.

After years in the shadows,
I’m starting to feel alive. A sense of normalcy.
Unfortunately Aaron is not who I had imagined.
And his life is anything but normal.

Can I put the phone down and step into his world long enough to realize,
That what started out as careless whispers has smoldered into something more?
A wrong number, could be my Mr. Right.

Excerpt:

As I walked by the buffet table that was nestled right by the doorway, I stopped and grabbed an open bottle of champagne before leaving the room. I needed it after this major clusterfuck. I stopped, leaned back in and grabbed a second bottle just to be safe then strolled for the elevator as I took a long swig off the first bottle. The bubbles tingled my nose but the cool alcohol was refreshing, I was sweating like a whore in church with all of these damn ruffles.

Pressing seven, I tried to drink the entire time the elevator climbed. When the doors opened, I stomped to my room, pissed beyond all belief. How dare these women make a mockery out of marriage. I loved being married, I was a good wife. God, I missed waking up next to him.

I locked my room and then kicked off my shoes, one going left and no clue where the right one went, and started to wiggle out of my dress. There was no way in hell that I wanted to put one of these bottles down so instead I did some fancy moves, like the shoulder drop, the twist, and even the pony, the only thing missing was music.

When I was finally free of the taffeta monstrosity, I did my best rendition of Tom Cruise in Risky Business. Using my panty hose clad feet to give me a slide across the not-one-bit-shaggy carpeted floor. I used the bottle as my mic and sang about some Old Time Rock ’N Roll. I kept singing and practicing my slide until I had finished the first bottle. I swayed a little before I tossed it to the floor and then a brilliant beyond brilliant idea hit me, I needed to call Erin.

Ohh, I missed Erin so much. She was Eric’s twin sister, since he died Erin and I still talked about everything and I mean everything but just not as often as we used too. I’m going to call her right now.

“Stay right there, don’t move,” I said to the second bottle of champagne as I set it on the nightstand.

“Phone, oh phone, where did I put you?” I called.

I wondered if I could yodel, “Phone-o-ne-o.” Nailed it.

There it is, I found you, you little fucker. I snagged my phone from the pocket of my dress and then turned back to the bed. Ooo, head spinning. Carefully I crawled onto the bed, grabbed the bottle of champagne that had been sitting all alone and took a sip before scrolling through my phone for Erin’s number.

RELEASE BLITZ – Jock Blocked (Copper Valley Fireballs #1) by Pippa Grant

Title: Jock Blocked

Series: Copper Valley Fireballs #1

Author: Pippa Grant
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 19, 2020
Blurb

EXCERPT

Mackenzie Montana, aka a woman on a mission

I never meant to become a criminal. But in the grand scheme of life, I don’t think I’m technically engaging in criminal behavior.
At least, if it is, you could call it a crime of passion.
And I am very passionate in my belief that while the Fireballs need to make changes to halt their record-breaking streak of being the worst losing team ever to play professional baseball, they don’t need to do it with a new mascot. Which is why I decided to take two weeks off work and fly to Florida for spring training, where I’m not saying that I’ve snuck into my home team’s ballpark after hours to steal the worst proposed mascot costume, but I’m not saying I haven’t either.
Meatballs?
They actually let a meatball make the final cut.
I needed at least another full season to get over the fact that the new Fireballs ownership killed the last mascot, and here they are, letting fans vote on replacing Fiery the Dragon with flaming meatballs.
I snort to myself while I creep through the darkened concrete hallways with a flaming meatball swallowing half of my body.
If you’re going to steal a giant meatball costume, it’s best to act like you know what you’re doing. And striding out of here with zero shame means two things—one, no one’s going to stop me, and two, even if they do, I’m incognito.
It’s the perfect crime to counter the crime of killing Fiery.
I’m one turn away from the door that I left propped open for myself after hiding out in the family bathroom after today’s game when voices drift toward me.
One male.
One female.
Neither is familiar, but as I get closer to my final turn, I realize the voices are between me and my exit.
No biggie.
I got this.
I can stroll on by, flash a thumbs-up, pretend like I’m heading out to prank the Fireballs at the team compound they’re all staying at, or to make a fast-food run for publicity.
He plays third base, and he hits the ball like it’s evil incarnate and he’s an avenging angel and it’s his job to send that evil into another dimension.
He could be the reason we legitimately have a shot at making it to the post-season.
And I am not going to hyperventilate like I did the last time I was face-to-face with a baseball player.
Pretending to be a mascot?
I got this.
Talking to the players?
It’s like talking to the gods.

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

OH MY BASEBALL GODS…… I love Pippa Grant and I adored MacKenzie & Brooks, they were both a little dorky in their own way, had big hearts, loved their families and had baseball in common – though Mac was just a tad more obsessional about the sport than Brooks…. Their initial meeting had me laughing hard and to be honest, I didn’t stop laughing for most of the book.

It was fab that they each what the other needed but didn’t realise and that their ‘relationship’ didn’t start off on the best footing…. though that added to the fun!

With crazy antics on the leads parts, madcap families, lot of great friends (who we all know and love from previous books), full-of-fun baseball team mates and a guest appearance by a favourite hockey team, JOCK BLOCKED was a fabulous read and another hit from Ms Grant!!!

I read this is a day – it would have been quicker if RL hadn’t kept interrupting… buy hey, what you gonna do??….go right back to the book of course!!!

Can I just say, those epilogues……. there were tears reading one… I admit it!!

A home run 5* laugh-a-lot read………

“Helena Hunting delivers a smart, funny, emotional story that grabs you from page one.”
Ilsa Madden-Mills, Wall Street Journal bestselling author

A Secret for a Secret, an all-new must read forbidden standalone romance that is sure to have you swooning from the start by New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting, is available now!

Hunting-A Secret for a Secret-28672-PB-FT.jpg

From New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting comes a new romance about trading secrets, breaking the rules, and playing for keeps.

My name is Ryan Kingston, and I’m a rule follower. I’ve never been in a fistfight. I always obey the speed limit. I don’t get drunk, and I definitely don’t pick up random women at bars.

Except the night I found out that my whole existence has been a lie.

I got drunk. And picked up a stranger.

Her name was Queenie, and she was everything I’m not: reckless, impulsive, and chaotic. We did shots and traded secrets. And ended up naked at my place.

She left me a thank-you note in the morning and her panties as a parting gift. But no way to contact her.

Six weeks later I’m sitting in the first official team meeting of the season, and there she is. I neglected to mention that I’m the goalie for Seattle’s NHL team.

And Queenie? Turns out she’s the general manager’s daughter.

Excerpt:

“You think our GM got himself an assistant?”

I follow his gaze to the front of the room. Standing at the desk with her back to us, arranging papers, is a woman with wavy chestnut hair that nearly reaches her waist. “Maybe an intern?”

She’s wearing a navy dress that conforms to her very feminine form. I trace the dip of her waist and the curve of her hip, skimming down to where the hem of her dress hits the bend in her knee. Her calves are bare, athletic, and toned, and her heels boast a little bow on the back. Classy, yet sexy. “Possibly.”

“I hope the eye candy is gonna be permanent,” someone at the table behind us says, loud enough for everyone close by to hear.

“I wouldn’t mind if she helped me with my jockstrap,” one of the other guys chimes in, eliciting a loud chuckle from the rest of the table.

I glance over my shoulder and pin them with an unimpressed glare. I recognize Foley from Tampa, and Dickerson is an LA trade. They’re notorious womanizers. “Watch your mouth and have some respect. That’s someone’s daughter.”

“Take it easy, King. It’s not like we’d actually say that to her face,” Foley says.

I don’t have an opportunity to reprimand him further because the GM, Jake Masterson, and our head coach, Alex Waters, enter the room through the side door. The GM crosses over to the woman, whose back is still turned to us, and he gives her a smile that seems . . . overly warm. He leans in and squeezes her shoulder as he says something with his mouth close to her ear.

“Maybe she’s not his assistant. Maybe she’s his new girlfriend, ’cause that looks pretty damn friendly to me.” Bishop jams a sausage link into his mouth.

“Maybe,” I agree.

She turns slightly, giving me a glimpse of her profile. Her cheeks are flushed pink. I blink a couple of times, because she seems incredibly familiar.

“I think I know her,” I mumble, more to myself than to Bishop.

“Not as well as our GM does, by the look of things.”

It hits me like a puck in the chest without pads on. I do know her. Queenie. My one-night stand who bailed the next morning and left a Post-it and panties hanging from my doorknob. Destroyed panties. “Oh God.”

Did I sleep with the GM’s girlfriend? Memories come barreling into my brain, and I want to sink into the floor. My behavior that night was highly atypical. Everything about that night was. I chalked it up to the alcohol, the family drama, and the fact that she seemed to be a very eager and willing participant in our adventures. Do not think about the things you did to her.

I’d be lying if I said I haven’t thought about Queenie and our night together. I’ve even considered driving by the bar where we met, but I don’t know if she’s likely to show up there. And it’s not as if I can ask the bartender about her without looking like a creep. Besides, if she wanted me to have her number, she would’ve left it.

“Are you okay? You look like you’re about to hurl,” Bishop asks.

I cover my mouth with my palm, not because I’m going to be ill but to hide the fact that it’s hanging open and I can’t seem to close it. Although my stomach is starting to do those awful somersaults that will soon turn into full-on nausea. The kind I used to get when I’d first hit the ice for a game.

This is bad. Really bad. I’ve never had a one-night stand before. I’ve always been in committed relationships, and I prefer to get to know my bed partners before they actually get into bed with me. Teen pregnancy was pretty common where I grew up in Tennessee, because there wasn’t much else to do apart from playing sports or getting into trouble with drugs and alcohol—my brother, Gerald, went the latter route. I obviously fit into the sports category. By the time I became a teenager, my parents had finally learned their lesson. It was drilled into me to never become that kind of statistic, or to turn my girlfriend into a mom before she was ready to take on more than senior-level algebra.

Ironic how my actual mother would’ve been one of those girls had my grandparents not made the choices they had.

“King?” Bishop nudges me. “You’re staring, man.”

Jake whistles with his fingers, causing the woman beside him to cringe but then quickly school her expression into an uncertain smile. “Who’s ready for a new season?”

He’s rewarded with a chorus of cheers from the players. Waters stands off to the side, clapping enthusiastically. He generally runs all team meetings, but Jake is a hands-on GM, so he always manages first meeting intros before he hands it over to our coach.

Jake waits for everyone to settle down and take their seats before he continues. “Gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to my personal assistant, Queenie.” He throws his arm over her shoulder and pulls her into his side.

A hot spike of anger rushes down my spine—it’s a foreign feeling. I’m usually very level headed. But not right now. It’s obvious by the way Jake and Queenie interact that there’s a relationship there. Is she a cheater? Did she make me one? There’s a definite age gap. He’s young for a GM, but he’s in his forties, and I’m pretty sure she’s in her mid twenties.

“She also happens to be my daughter, so don’t get any ideas, boys.” He somehow manages to wink and glare at the same time.

And it just went from bad to worse.

My one-night stand isn’t my GM’s girlfriend; she’s his daughter.

Excerpt

Footsteps sounded behind me, the tread of a single pair of boots approaching from the shore.

Beads of sweat trickled between my breasts and gathered beneath the stays. I knew that lazy, arrogant gait. I feared it.

Pushing back my shoulders, I girded my spine and turned to face my biggest mistake.

A few paces away, the pirate leaned against a wooden post. His thumb hooked casually in the straps of leather that wound around his trim hips. His other hand hung at his side, dangling my lost compass by the chain.

Rancor battled longing. Scorn collided with sadness, and my outrage bowed beneath the helpless, banal attraction I’d always felt for him.

His brown breeches fit him like a glove, the threads molding around powerful thighs and the sizable bulge of his groin. His loose shirt tucked into multiple belts at his waist and laced up his chest to open at the neck. A strong neck, covered in scruff and sinew.

I swallowed thickly, my entire body pulsing with an unwanted ache as my gaze rose to his.

Eyes glinting like polished steel glared down at me. Moonlight cast his prominent features in stark relief—stern forehead, defined cheekbones, perfect nose, full lips—leaving the rest of his face in shadow. The severe straight line of his mouth amplified the intensity in his expression.

He was furious. Seething with two years’ worth of blistering, unresolved ire.

My heart died a thousand deaths before I found my voice. “Priest.”

“Bennett, my love.” He spilled the endearment into the air, each syllable a vicious growl of torment. “How I’ve missed you.”

EXCERPT

My lips part Mia’s and I can taste a million missed moments on my tongue, a million wants, and needs. A million demands my body craves and I want to bury them all inside her. I reach up and catch the top of her blouse just above her buttons and yank, tiny buttons flying everywhere. She gasps and already I’ve unhooked the front clasp of her bra. Already, my gaze is raking over the swell of her high breasts, the pucker of her pink nipples.

“Grayson,” she whispers, and there was a time not so long ago that I thought I’d never hear my name on her lips again, at least not spoken with that raspy burn of a plea. And that’s what my name is on her lips right now: a plea.

I know what she wants, what she needs and I need. That forbidden burn of submission she has often admitted to wanting, the need in her that answers my need for control. For her, it’s the only time she allows herself to fully let go, to dare to give me that control, and fear nothing. For me, inside that control is her trusting me, her being all-in in every possible way. I’d like to say I know she is, and on most levels I do, but the bite of her leaving is fresh. Her believing I cheated is a bleeding wound, only now healing. But it is healing. That said, it’s true, absolutely fucking true, that her submitting right here in our bedroom and showing me how much she trusts me, feels urgent. It feels necessary.

Cupping her hands behind her back, I yank her to me hard and fast, her naked breasts smashed to my chest. I’m about to kiss her and turn her over and spank her when she says everything I didn’t know I needed to hear in a mere three words. “I was lost without you.” A moment later, she pushes to her toes and presses her soft lips to mine.

Just like that, she spreads a softer, sweeter emotion through me and that dark hardness only she understands submits to her. She owns me. There was a time when I might have tried to fight such an absolute need, but there was never a chance. Not with Mia.

I tear away her jacket and toss it aside, cupping her head and slanting my mouth over her mouth, drinking her in, drugging myself with that sweetness of hers that is so damn perfect. The kind of sweetness that brings a man to his knees and I’m already there. I’ve been there. Her fingers tangle in the thick strands of my hair and it’s as if we’re swept into a far, far land, in the middle of an ocean where only we exist. Where we’re drowning in each other.

It’s Mia that ends that kiss, tearing her lips from mine and reaching for my tie. Impatient, I grab it and yank it out of my collar. Another time, I’d use that tie, I’d twist it around her wrists. Five minutes ago, before her confession, before her kiss, I’d been in that place where the past year fucks with my head. A place where I’d lost her and my father. I’d have done just that. I’d have used sex to take us away, to consume us, and run from the pain. Instead, I’m here, I’m present, and I don’t want to be anywhere but here and present.

I’ve barely tossed it aside when she’s fumbling with my buttons. “Why are you not naked right now?”

“You first,” I murmur, turning her around and unzipping her skirt. She kicks off her heels and when my hands slide under the material, I slide it, and it alone since she’s still pantyless, down her hips. She steps out of it and when I might otherwise hold her here, I don’t. Not now. That’s not what I want now. She rotates to face me and just her standing there willingly naked and vulnerable is enough. I don’t care about control right now. And my need for that is a dangerous black hole I need to avoid.

Trust.

I have to give it to get it.

I have to remember that my walls created her fears.

I unbutton my shirt and then just tear my shirt over my head. I’ve barely tossed it aside and she’s pressed against me, soft and warm. She presses her lips to mine again, and the minute her tongue strokes mine, that need only she stirs inside me explodes...

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

Really enjoyed this second instalment in Grayson & Mia’s story.

Intrigue, action, heat and passion, Lisa Renee Jones packs it all into her books.

Following the events in Dirty Rich Betrayal we find out just how deep the problem goes but thankfully the Walker brothers and their guys are on the case. If I had one wee gripe it would be that everything was too neatly packaged, but I suppose after everything that they’ve gone through maybe that wasn’t a bad thing!

I’m not a huge fan of millionaire characters but LRJ is one of the few authors who write these leads where I really enjoy the stories and like the books.

Definitely read Dirty Rich Betrayal before you pick up Love Me Forever to understand Mia & Grayson’s journey to this point, it’s another great read.

A solid 4* read for me and I’m looking forward to what’s next from Ms Jones.
