It was supposed to be just for kicks…
Andi Larsen learned early on there is no such thing as fairy godmothers. A childhood spent in foster care will do that to a girl. She’s working her way through night school and is on the cusp of establishing her own business without help from anyone, thank you very much. But when her deadbeat ex steals her identity, amassing a staggering debt in her name, her fairy godmother appears in the guise of a spunky, Fireball whisky-wielding septuagenarian. The older woman’s solution for Andi? Tie the knot with a kilt-wearing, moody jock whose legs look sexier in a skirt than hers do.
Declan Fletcher never intended to be a place-kicker for a professional football team. But fate had other plans. Exiled from his beloved Scotland a decade ago, Dex is now a superstar athlete known throughout the league as the “Man with the Million Dollar Leg.” But when a mix-up in his immigration paperwork threatens to send him home before the season begins, he’ll do anything to avoid deportation and facing his greatest mistake. Even if it means marrying a pink-haired waif of a lass with eyes that seem to see everything he’s determined to keep hidden.
A grumpy cat, nosy teammates, and a sizzling sexual attraction make their marriage of convenience anything but convenient.

“Give me a kiss for luck, lass,” he commanded, effectively cutting off her protest with both his words and his lips.
She didn’t have time to react. Not that she could if she wanted to. She was too stunned. Or too . . . something.
The moment his mouth met hers, a storm of sensations threatened to overwhelm her. The velvety firmness of his lips. The tangy whiskey on his breath. The sparks of awareness created by the brush of his fingers against her skin.
It was all too much.
And yet, not nearly enough.
Her body moved of its own accord, edging close enough that she couldn’t tell if it was her heart hammering against her chest or his. She failed to contain the sigh emanating from the back of her throat when his lips coaxed hers apart and his tongue delved into her mouth. The fingers at her nape tightened ever so slightly at the sound before he abruptly released her.
It took a long moment for awareness of her surroundings to return. The ping of the slot machines and the crackle of shuffling cards was followed by the hum of hundreds of conversations taking place within the casino. When she finally regained focus, Dex was still inhabiting the space in front of her, heat and something else unidentifiable radiating off him.
“Well done, lass,” he murmured.
Andi’s gaze snapped up to meet his. Her stomach sank at his amused expression. Damn it. He was playing a role. This whole evening was some sort of play for him. One where she didn’t know the lines. She was a fool to think it was anything more.
Taking a step back, she forced her lips up into a smile she didn’t feel. Declan Fletcher may be a better gamer than she was, but Andi was nothing if not a quick learner. She’d had to be. So she decided to play along.
Placing both hands on his chest, she stretched up on her toes and pressed her lips to the corner of his. “Try not to lose it all in one sitting,” she said loud enough for their audience to overhear.
With a pat to his magnificent pectoral muscles, she left him standing there mute, while she went in search of food. And a large glass of wine.

“You know the feeling when you read a book and you love it so much you wish you could read it again for the first time?”
“Of course.”
My hand fell on her shoulders as I stood right behind her, the heat from her trembling body reaching mine, driving me crazy. I pushed my hands down her arms as my nose nuzzled in her neck. “I feel the same way with our kiss.”
“Fabio…that kiss was—”
“Right,” I interrupted. I had a feeling she was going to say it was a mistake. I wouldn’t allow it.

#2

Count, naughty girl.
“One.” The imaginary feeling of his palm on my ass felt so hot, so good. “Two.” I heard him slip out of his thong, and the naked velvety feeling of his hardness on my skin, waiting at my opening. “Three.”
When you reach five, I’m gonna be inside you, fucking you so hard, and you’re gonna take it all like the naughty girl you are.

#3

“Because I won’t let you.”
I laughed incredulously. “Scusi?”
“You heard me the first time. I’m your fiancé. I have the right to—”
“You don’t. And you’re not my fiancé.”
“For the next six months I am.” He grabbed his fork back and stabbed it in the pasta instead of making love to it like before. “Open your mouth.”
To deep throat me? With Fabio, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did.

#4

Out of the blue, I felt a hot wet thing gliding up my neck. Her tongue. And her hand playing with my balls.
“Ohh..oof…yeah.” I bit my lip for a second, my eyes closing, her hand moving up my shaft, the feeling so fucking good. “No, no, no. Cazzo. No.”
“Cazzo si.”
“No, Gabi. No cazzo tonight.”
“But you’re so happy to see me.”
I laughed, embarrassed for the first time in ages. “Yeah, but you’re not. You’re just drunk. We can’t. I can’t…” I couldn’t believe I was taking her hand off my cock. “Babe, I have to get you cleaned up and put you in bed, okay?”
“Yes, Daddy. I’m so dirty.”
“Oddio.” My dirtier cock twitched. I shook my head hard, banishing the filthy demons wreaking havoc inside my brain. It wasn’t the easiest task when I was taking off her panties.
“Be thorough between my legs, Daddy. My little cookie is the dirtiest.”
“Holy fuck! Gabriella, don’t speak anymore. You’re gonna heavily regret everything you’re saying in the morning.” Me too if I didn’t get my ass up and stayed as far away from her.

Excerpt:

“Well, I’m wiped. I’m going straight to bed,” she said, hopping out of the truck and deciding she needed to grow up and stop fantasizing about this man like she was a teenager.

She waited on the porch, shifting from one foot to the other as he looked for the house key. “Does it always snow this much out here?” she mumbled.

“Nope. Usually more.” He shot her a glance and was about to put the key in the door when he stopped. And then he was back to the Aiden she was beginning to know. The guy with the easy charm. “Before we go in, I just… I’m glad you had a good time tonight, Janie.”

She tilted her head, feeling like there was more there. Maybe it was the wine, or maybe it was that she just knew that she wanted a little more of that feeling…that feeling that he brought out in her that made her take a step closer to him. “I did. Thank you—I mean not thank you—for bringing me into your world here.” His eyes softened at that, and it encouraged her to go on. “Everyone had great things to say about you. Also, do you know the women in this town have all had a crush on you at some point? And the guys may be slightly miffed at that.”

He ducked his head, and she found that little bit of modesty quite attractive. “An exaggeration for sure,” he said, lifting his head and looking deep into her eyes like he was searching for something.

“I…I’m not exactly sure what the allure is, frankly.”

His eyes widened, and then he laughed. He took a step closer to her, close enough that she could see the darker flecks of blue in his eyes. “Really?”

She nodded, kind of giddy at having his undivided attention. “I was trying to think what it could be about you that everyone seems to find so appealing…”

The way his grin faltered almost made her stop teasing him. Like he might think she was being serious.

“And?” His deep voice seemed to curl around her heart and tug until she couldn’t help but drop the humor and tell him how she really felt.

“It’s that your insides are reflected on the outside. You see, the man I’m coming to know is hardworking and strong and noble. And that kind of character is reflected in your beautiful face,” she whispered. She held her breath, feeling silly when he just stood there.

But then he lifted his hand—his warm, work-roughened hand—and gently delved into the hair at the nape of her neck. “Janie…

The way he said her name, as though it came from somewhere deep inside, made her feel like she was the most special woman in the world.

About the Author:

Victoria James is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance.

Victoria always knew she wanted to be a writer and in grade five, she penned her first story, bound it (with staples and a cardboard cover) and did all the illustrations herself. Luckily, this book will never see the light of day again.

In high school she fell in love with historical romance and then contemporary romance. After graduating University with an English Literature degree, Victoria pursued a degree in Interior Design and then opened her own business. After her first child, Victoria knew it was time to fulfill her dream of writing romantic fiction.

Victoria is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after’s for her characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but she’s quite content living in suburbia with her husband, their two young children, and very bad cat.

EXCERPT
I don’t belong here.
I repeat the words to myself like a mantra. I do not belong here.
My foot tap-tap-taps on the chair leg, as I watch Kenzie work her magic by the bar. Laughing at jokes that aren’t funny. Smiling just enough to convey interest without coming off as desperate. Each hair flip and slow blink is a carefully choreographed dance step intended to entice.
The moves would probably work even if she wasn’t gorgeous, but she is. I’ve done a good job accentuating her cheekbones, balancing highlight and bronzer so that the light hits the high points of her face just right. She’s got the sort of ski-sloped nose you’d expect to find on a doll, not a living, breathing human woman.
I’m not saying I’m ugly in comparison. I’m just not pretty in the same way Kenzie is. She brightens any room she enters, while I stand in the corner praying not to be noticed. Where she’s warm, I’m cold, jittery, like a nervous cat. The moon to Kenzie’s sun; I expect she shines even brighter beside me.
I remind myself Kenzie’s good at this because she’s had to be, and she’s just as good at turning it off when needed. Some guys will take a polite smile as an invitation to invade your personal space.
Others don’t need any prompting at all.
The men here seem to appreciate the dance, like it’s a type of foreplay. I watch them watching her, drinking her in like a glass of champagne.
For the tiniest of moments, I’m jealous. Not because I wish they’d look at me that way, but because of how easily it comes to Kenzie. People are drawn to her in ways they simply aren’t drawn to me. Because she doesn’t instinctively give off a don’t-talk to-me vibe.
Apparently, that vibe isn’t enough to turn away the white-haired geezer shoving his crotch in my face.
“Aren’t you the sweetest thing,” he says, standing over me, his hand resting on the back of my chair.
“Am I?” I sip champagne and glance anxiously in Kenzie’s direction, but she doesn’t turn toward me.
“I think you might be the prettiest peach in the room.”
I instruct my eyes not to roll as I finally look up at him. My pulse picks up speed. The old man smiles, and his teeth are blindingly white, like he had them bleached this morning.
“That’s very kind of you,” I tell him.
He takes the empty seat beside me. I feel the sweat start to build under my arms and behind my knees. I wish he’d go away. Choose someone else, someone who actually looks excited to see him and his money.
“I don’t think I’ve seen you at one of these things before,” he says. “Are you a virgin?”
I nearly choke on my champagne. He chuckles, a croaking frog-like sound. I am probably one of the least experienced girls here, but I’m not about to advertise that fact. Having sex means letting people get close to you, and I don’t let very many people get close to me.
“Excuse me,” I say, rising to my feet. “I need to…reapply my lipstick.”
“Aw, I was just joking, sweetie. No need to play hard to get.” He grabs my hand and pulls me onto his lap. My limbs freeze up as his bony arms cinch around my waist. “Though I must say, the deer-in-headlights look is really doing it for me—”
“I believe you’re in my seat, Mr. Treasurer.”
I crane my neck to get a look at the face of the man staring down at us. I instantly recognize him from before, when I first walked in.
Ice-blue eyes. Sandy brown hair, shorn close to the scalp, yet still long enough to comb your fingers through, if you were interested in doing that sort of thing. He’s younger than most of the men here, though that still places him firmly in his late thirties.
His gaze meets mine, and even though I’m seated on a creep’s lap, I immediately feel…safer.
“I don’t see your name on it,” the old man—Mr. Treasurer—says.
“Trust me, it’s there. Now let the young lady stand up so I can claim what’s mine.”
Mr. Treasurer narrows his gaze at the younger man, who makes no move to step down or back away.
“I didn’t realize you’d made a down payment. My apologies.” The old creep lets go of me. I practically leap from his lap. He stands up and waves his hand at the chair. “All yours.”
The younger man takes the empty seat without a word.
“Name’s Jack,” the man says, holding out his hand to me. “Forgive me if I’ve just pulled you away from the geriatric of your dreams, but you looked like you could use an emergency exit.”
“God, yes…and thank you.” I shake his hand. He doesn’t pull or try to convince me to sit in his lap, but I find myself mysteriously drawn to him.
I sit down on the arm of his chair, granting me a front-row seat to his face. He’s handsome, but not flawless. There’s a faint scar on his forehead, and his nose is slightly crooked; he probably broke it as a kid. The dusting of stubble along his jaw makes him look rugged, which is hard to pull off in a suit.
He has to be rich if he’s here tonight. I wonder how he makes his money.
“What’s your name?” he asks.
“Mia,” I say, using the fake name Kenzie helped me come up with.
“Where are you from, Mia?”
“All over,” I say with a shrug. A stock answer for strangers, but Jack doesn’t feel like a stranger. I feel like I’ve known him for ages.
“What brings you out into the country on a Saturday night? Shouldn’t you be partying with your friends?”
“I don’t really like parties,” I say.
“In that case, why’re you here?”
“My friend wanted to come. She thought we could make some easy money.”
The light dims behind his smile.
“Trust me, sweetheart. Ain’t nothing easy about this kind of money.”
I finish off the last of my champagne. Jack watches my throat closely as I swallow, his gaze warm and intense.
“How old are you, Mia?”
“Eighteen,” I say.
For a second, I think he looks relieved. His face is kind. I hate to think he’s a creep like the rest of the men here, but why else would he be at this party?
“You in some kind of trouble?” he asks.
“Why? You want to rescue me again?”
He chuckles. “Just wondering if you could use a getaway.”
Kenzie and I lock eyes from across the room. She makes a crude gesture with her fingers at the sight of me sitting so close with a man. I purse my lips, grateful I went with full-coverage foundation tonight, otherwise my cheeks would be as red as the hair on my head.
“I’d love to get the hell out of here,” I say. “But I can’t leave my friend. Thanks for the offer, though.”
“Anytime,” he says, and I get the feeling he means it.
I have no good reason to trust Jack, but it’s rare that I meet someone who’s so easy to talk to. Someone who doesn’t make me break out in a cold sweat just by looking at them. The only other person I feel this comfortable around is Kenzie.
The chair’s arm is sharp and unforgiving against my backside. Before I realize it, I’m sliding down onto Jack’s lap. His arms go around me, but unlike the old man, his hold doesn’t feel confining. It feels protective, comforting. Like sinking into bed.
“My name’s not Mia,” I tell him. “It’s Holly. I’m sorry I lied.”
“Nah, you’re smart not to advertise your real name. I bet most of the girls here are going by some kind of alias. Now, how old are you really?”
I laugh softly. “That, I didn’t lie about.”
“Thank fucking God.” He touches his temple to mine. I probably shouldn’t have told him my real name. He’s a stranger, no one special to me. But part of me hated the thought of lying to him.
“Seems like you’re the only man here who cares to ask how old we are.”
“Oh, they care,” he says, with an edge to his voice. “They’re just hoping for a different answer.”
A cold chill runs down my back and settles in my stomach. Jack must feel it, too, because he’s suddenly holding me tighter. I tuck my face into the angle of his neck and jaw. If I close my eyes and tune out the party around us, I can pretend we’re somewhere far away from here. Just the two of us.
“I think your friend wants to talk to you,” Jack says.
I glance at the bar where Kenzie stands waving and beckoning.
Sighing with frustration, I straighten my posture. “I should go see what she needs.”
“Hold on a sec, Holly.” Jack reaches into the breast pocket of his jacket and pulls out a scuffed-up pen and a small notepad. He clicks the point down and writes something on a piece of paper, which he then tears out. “If you ever find yourself backed into a corner, I have friends in the Knoxville Police Department who can help.”
“Friends?” I can’t say Kenzie and I have ever put much faith in cops. In fact, we’ve spent the last three years going out of our way to avoid them.
“People I trust.” He folds the piece of paper into a small square, which he then tucks into my cleavage.
Before my body even registers that he’s touching my breast, his fingers are already gone.
“If you’re ever in trouble,” he says, “ask for Caleb Larkin. Say it for me, will ya?”
“Caleb Larkin,” I echo.
“Good girl.”

Kissing her was a mistake. It was supposed to be the period at the end of the sentence, closing the book on this attraction between us. I’d thought maybe she’d slap me or shove me away.

Instead, she’d met my lips with her own uncontainable desire. I’d pressed my hand against the small of her back and held her face to mine. Staring into her eyes, I knew it wasn’t the end of anything.

I’d dropped a lit match into a warehouse of fireworks, and all I had was a garden hose to fight this fire.

“Are you a rancher, too, Logan?” Janie asked, and Aiden turned his attention to her. “You’ve got the right hat for it.”

“No, everyone out here wears cowboy hats. You’ll be wearing one, too, before long.” Logan’s grin was bashful. Aiden had never seen bashful on him before. Though, with the image of Janie in a cowboy hat coming to mind, he couldn’t really blame him. “I’m a vet,” Logan said. “I have a practice just outside of Wishing River.”

Janie smiled at Logan like he just announced he was some kind of superhero. “Really? I have six months left of veterinary college.”

Aiden’s stomach dropped as he watched the exchange, as the weird coincidence sank in. One vet, one almost vet, and one…bartender who should have been a vet.

Logan grinned wider. “That’s great. If you’re in town for a while, I’m always on the lookout for new people. Are you taking time off from your regular job?”

Her cheeks went a deeper pink, lifting one shoulder. “Sort of. But I plan to go back as soon as I can.”

“We’re always in need of some extra help at the clinic, so if you want a job in the meantime, it’s great experience. You, too, Will. If you want to come and hang out, we could always use someone to give a little attention to the animals staying overnight.” Logan pulled out his business card and handed it to her.

Janie’s eyes sparkled with excitement, and she accepted the card readily. And Will looked as happy as Aiden had ever seen him. “That is so generous of you,” she said, smiling.

A job at Logan’s was a hell of a lot better than a job in his bar. He should be happy about that. Instead he was watching Janie and Logan and Will bond over something that he also loved. That was juvenile, and he’d already dealt with that shit. Why was it coming up again now? Janie and Will deserved a break, and that’s what he should be focusing on instead of thinking like an ass. It’s just that he wanted to give them that break. “That’s great,” he said, forcing a grin. “Glad you guys were able to meet.”

There were only three stalls with horses in them, but Aiden’s dream was to have them all filled one day and have someone else manage the bar. The familiar, musky smell of the barn, the sound of horses shuffling in their stalls, the soft whinnying, almost made him believe he was living this dream. Until he was reminded that he hadn’t ever fulfilled his dream. But this was second best, what he had going on here. He had the land, the horses, the dedication to them. It didn’t matter that he didn’t have a “Dr.” in front of his name.

“Well,” Janie said, “we’ll get back to the house. It’s pretty cold out here. It was nice meeting you, Logan.”

“You, too, and you as well, Will. Hope I’ll be hearing from you, Janie.” Logan’s grin was a little too flashy for Aiden’s liking. Hope I’ll be hearing from you should have been followed by about the job and not so open-ended.

Will gave a small wave, and the two of them walked out. Aiden’s shoulders relaxed as they left the barn. And then tensed again when Logan turned to him with a glint in his eyes. “First off, that’s definitely your kid,” Logan said. “That sort of disgruntled eyebrow furrowing thing? And that one-sided dimple that women love for some reason that’s always escaped me, because it’s essentially a defect in your face. Come on. That’s you. Second, you never told me Maxi had a sister like that…let alone who was going to be a vet and is probably the most gorgeous woman I’ve met in a long time.”

Aiden walked over to the horse feeders, disappointed they were full. He needed to do something with his hands. He pulled his hat lower so Logan couldn’t comment on his “brow furrowing,” which he realized he was actually doing. Why was he getting bothered about Logan’s comment? It was a normal response. He felt the same way.

“Hello? Did you hear me?” Logan asked, walking over to him.

Aiden lifted his head and forced his eyebrows into their normal state. “Sorry, I have a lot on my mind—like the fact that I might have a teenage kid. I’m not really thinking about how hot his aunt is.”

Logan smirked. “Oh, so you did notice.”

“I have eyes. It’s a fact, not a statement confirming interest.”

***
USA Today Bestselling Author BJ Harvey brings you Life Changer- Book 2 in a new spin-off to the Cook Brothers rom com series, featuring Chicago first responders fighting the good fight and finding love at the same time. Set in the same world as the Bliss, Game, and Cook Brothers series before it, this title can be read as a complete standalone.

I’m about to knock when the door swings open and a man looking strikingly similar to Harvey appears.

“Hey, you must be Rhodes. I’m Flynn,” he says, holding out his hand.

I shake it and smile, relieved he’s not making this weirder than it has to be. It makes sense he’d be here since Dee said he had a standing date with Harvey on Sundays. “Yep. That’s me.”

Silence stretches between us. We both stand there, looking at each other.

“Oh, shit, sorry. Do you wanna come in? Dee’s in the bedroom finishing getting ready.”

I laugh and rub the back of my neck, stepping inside behind my date’s ex-husband. “It’s okay. We both know this is kind of awkward, right?”

Flynn snorts. “Honestly, yeah, it’s the first time I’ve had to deal with meeting the guy dating Dee, but that’s to be expected when we share a house, right?”

I open my mouth to reply but freeze at his revelation. Thank f*ck I cover quickly. “Right. I guess that makes sense with Harvey and all.”

Flynn’s gaze narrows slightly before widening. “Oh fuck. You didn’t know, did you?” He scrubs his mouth. “Damn. I dumped her in it. Look, sorry, but it is just a living arrangement. It works for us, it works for Harvey, and I’ve got a girlfriend that I’m kinda crazy about. So please don’t feel threatened or go all alpha dog on me,” he says, his lips twitching.

How can I hate this guy now? “Thanks for explaining it. I’m surprised, but I’m sure Dee meant to tell me.”

“To be fair, Harvs and I should’ve left by now. You’ve kinda been blindsided, but it was completely unintentional.”

“You know, you’re making it hard for me not to like you?” I say, making him laugh.

“Good. Because you’re the first guy Dee has gone out on a date with in two years, so I’m glad you’re not a dick either.”

Footsteps grab my attention, and when I look up I meet Dee’s slow-growing smile as she walks down the staircase toward us, her eyes going from soft and warm to wide and worried when her gaze shifts to a grinning Flynn leaning against the wall. “Oh f*ck.”

“That’s what I said,’ Flynn says.

BLP REVIEW – TRACY

I have to say that LIFE CHANGER is so far one of my favourite books of 2021…

Although this is only the second book by BJ Harvey that I’ve read I am so taken with her storytelling and her character building that I’ll be a definite fan going forward.

I adored this story. Great main characters, a little older with families and some baggage but perfect for each other..

Rhodes was a great leading man. His loyalty, commitment, humour and patience as well as his ability to think on his feet rounded out his character well.

Dee was fab. Her home life was a little different to say the least but it worked for those involved and that was the main thing. She had a likability and realism that I liked. I loved her understanding when it comes to Rhode’s wife Lily and how, even though she was gone, she was still a part of their lives.

The kids Harvey and Jake and Dee’s ex/best friend along with Rhodes friends, family and his work family were all great supporting characters.

I’m going back to read Marco’s book and I am excited for more in the Chicago First Responders series!!

As a young boy, abandoned by my parents and ripped apart from my twin sister, I learned early on that the world was full of evil and hate. I survived by living between the light and darkness, using my shifter abilities to stay alive…until one mistake should have cost me my life. Instead, it became my salvation and gave me a family and band of brothers who had my back no matter what.

The Dark Leopards MC was not a gang to be trifled with, and many gave us a wide birth, and as the Sergeant At Arms, I ensured that’s the way it stayed. But someone was trying to encroach on our territory and begin a war. I suspect the woman I saved, the woman whom I discover is my mate, is tied to it all somehow. I just have to figure out the puzzle before it’s too late.

VERITY

I was only trying to help a friend. The last thing I ever thought is that my friend would try to kidnap me, but thankfully someone or something saved me. Rushing to meet my roommate, Siam, I got another shock when the gang responsible for my brother’s death are her friends. I didn’t care if her brother had mesmerizing eyes or if I had a hard time not thinking about him. He was the enemy!

But even as my enemy, he may be my only chance to stay alive and learn the truth. And if Snow is the one protecting me in and out of bed, I wouldn’t complain too much.

**Previous published in Dark Leopards MC, Michigan Chapter, it has been expanded and contains new content.

Add to your Goodreads:

I was on the verge of turning sixteen and needed some money. A thick billfold attached to a chain caught my attention. Easy pickings. Some shifters’ gifts could only be used while in their animal counterparts, but not mine. I had the ability to use mine both in animal and human form, and I took full advantage. It meant, if I wanted to, I could sleep with a roof over my head, and no one would be the wiser.

Ducking into an alley, I kept my eye on my target and stripped before activating my gift. I’d learned at ten that suddenly disappearing in front of anyone tended to make people freak out, and it was worse if you disappeared, but your clothes didn’t. In addition, no one wanted to see a kid strip down naked in the middle of the room so they could become invisible.

Stepping out of the alley, I noticed my target leaning against a big blue mailbox, scanning the area. Maybe he was looking for someone. Good. It meant his attention would be on whatever he was doing, and he was less likely to notice the disappearance of his wallet. He was making this too easy for me.

I moved closer and realized the man was a shifter, and my heart thudded. I swallowed hard, and it sounded loud in my ears. I inched my way toward him, slow and steady because I didn’t want him to realize I was there. There was always a higher level of danger when I stole from a shifter. However, it never stopped me.

His leather cut made me pause, but only for a second. This man was giving off a don’t fuck with me vibe, and I had the feeling many didn’t argue with him. I needed his wallet, though. Three more steps. The pounding pulse in my ears drowned out the sounds around me. This man was bad news. One more step. I could do this. I’d done it a million times, and this was no different than anyone else, except this guy could probably kill me. He had that look about him.

Reaching for his wallet, I noticed the back of his cut. FUCK ME! Not probably kill me. Definitely kill me. Dark Leopards MC was spelled out in bold letters along with their logo. I’d picked the wrong person to steal from…or had I? If I managed to get his fat wallet, not only would I have his money, I could have the satisfaction of knowing I’d stolen it from a patched member of the local badass MC.

Slowly and carefully, I detached the wallet from the chain and began to pull it out of his pocket, and then all hell broke loose. His large paw grabbed my wrist, squeezing hard, and I had to bite my lip to stop myself from crying out. It hurt like a motherfucker! How? How had he noticed me? He shouldn’t be able to see or smell me. I was completely invisible.

“Big mistake, boy,” he growled.
See? Very naïve little shit.

I’d needed a job and found myself applying at Lyrics, an intimate jazz bar in the heart of the city. My goal was simple—earn enough money so my ailing father didn’t have to worry about anything.
What hadn’t been in my plans was instantly being attracted to Bishop, my new boss and the resident bartender.
The attraction was insane, and the chemistry was off the charts between us. And the obsession he threw my way should have frightened me, but instead it made me want him even more.
He was protective, making me feel as if I were the only woman in the world for him. And after a heated night of passionate abandon, I realized he ruined me for all other men. It was the single most incredible experience of my life.
He said—vowed—he’d never let me go, that I was meant to be his… that it was meant to be between us.
And when I all but snuck out of his bed while he still slept, doing the Walk of Shame, I worried things could never work between us.
What I knew for certain was the one-night stand I just had with my boss was something I wanted to experience over and over again.
Because I realized I’d already fallen in love with Bishop.
But life was full of conflict, and mine especially was chaos. Sometimes that was too much for anyone to take on, even for a man who said I was meant to be his.

God, she was absolutely gorgeous. The most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. When I first locked eyes on her as I’d come out of the office, I literally lost my footing, unable to move—hell, unable to fucking breathe.
Breathtaking. Yeah… that’s what she was.
I found myself lifting a hand and rubbing the center of my chest. I knew I should have said something, but I was literally tongue-tied by how stunning she was.
Her hair was thick and curly, and so dark it reminded me ofonyx. Her eyes were big, soulful, and a rich brown that reminded me of mahogany. Her dark skin was smooth, flawless, and her lips were pouty and red, drawing my eyes to them over and over again. I thought back to her body when I’d first seen her standing there. Despite the jacket and slacks she wore, I could tell she was curvy, feminine in all the ways that turned me on.
No, nothing and no one has ever made me feel like this.
“Well,” she said, and I blinked, bringing myself back to the present. “I love this bar and the atmosphere. It’s eclectic and unique, and my father loves all things jazz—as do I—so I thought this would be a perfect fit.”
“No,” I said, and she stopped, her eyes going wide. “Korrie, tell me why you want to work here.”
It took her a moment, but I saw that she knew I wanted the truth. I’d never asked an interviewee this, because it wasn’t my fucking business, but there was no denying there was something special about this woman, and a part of me grew curious to know all the things, all her secrets.
Finally, she exhaled and glanced down at her lap, her thick curls falling over her shoulder. My fingers itched to touch her, to smooth my thumb under her chin and bring her head up so I could look into her warm mahogany eyes once more.
“My father is sick, and I need this job to pay his medical and prescription bills.” She looked up at me, and I leaned back, not expecting that to come from her. “And this is the only place that called me back for an interview.” She shrugged and glanced back down at her lap. I could see she twisted her hands together nervously.
“Look at me,” I said gently, coaxing. She lifted her head, and I smiled. “Thank you for being honest. You can’t know how nice it is to hear the truth.” I watched her shoulders relax, and she gave me a tentative smile in return.
“I wasn’t lying about loving this place though. All of that was the truth.” She licked her lips, and I was riveted to the sight.
I got hard.
My heart raced.
My palms started to sweat.
Nothing mattered but her. This tunnel vision settled in, and I embraced it.
“So when can you start?” I gave her a grin when I saw the surprise on her face.
“Just like that?”
I looked down at the application she’d dropped off just a few days ago, one of the waitresses having taken it. Hell, if I had taken the application from Korrie myself, I would’ve hired her right on the spot simply from the connection I felt with her alone.
And the truth was, I still would have hired her even if she hadn’t told me about needing this job, because she had to help her dad out. I wanted her close. It was this strange, sudden, but very strong sensation in me. It was as if this feeling I had toward Korrie was ingrained in my very DNA.
Not having her work for me—not keeping her close—seemed like the worst possible idea I could’ve ever come up with.

Every rule has an exception.
Tori Russo’s job is very simple—be a pretty distraction for a professional football player with a bad attitude. Her only problem? She’d rather gain some actual marketing experience during her internship than be someone’s arm candy for photo ops. Growing up with a Navy captain father and five older, overprotective brothers, she’s never been allowed to stand on her own two feet. She’s going to prove to them she has what it takes to be an independent adult. Even if it means giving in and faking a relationship with one of the NFL’s most eligible bachelors. Tori doesn’t want to sleep her way to the top, but her client is impossible to resist. If she can keep her heart out of the game, she can walk away with her head held high.
Mike Mitchell’s life shouldn’t be this complicated. All he wants is to play football and earn a good living for his family, but his life off the field is riddled with chaos. After a long-standing feud with an old friend-turned-rival is caught on camera, he’s assigned a PR rep by his team. His options are limited—play nice with the sweet as peaches redhead or be benched. EXCERPT
Even with his face twisting in a weird mixture of what I’m guessing is contempt, fury, then finally resignation, Mike Mitchell is a darn fine specimen of the male species. He’s apple pie, bonfires on a cool fall night, and the epitome of what most women imagine when they hear the words “football player.” In short, he’s an all-American stud whose good looks almost overshadow his annoyed expression. His full lips form an upside-down horseshoe. With that kind of expressive control, he’s probably a fantastic kisser.
He drags a hand through sweat-soaked hair that’s a much lighter shade of brown when it isn’t wet. From what I’ve seen of his team photos, he keeps it neat and doesn’t go overboard with products or style like the kind of guys who probably spend more time on their hair in the morning than I do.
Like Ben does. Or maybe he doesn’t anymore. I wouldn’t know because he made it perfectly clear that we needed a break to find ourselves. Whatever that means.
I snap out of my daze when Mitchell speaks.
“I don’t need it, guys. Really.”
A bark of laughter redirects my attention to the doorway. The same man who tested me stands at the entrance of the room like some sort of guard dog, his arms crossed over his chest. “Oh, we think you do.”
Mike throws his arms in the air, clearly frustrated. “Why? My numbers are solid. I’m pulling my weight—”
A round of boisterous laughter cuts him off. Another player shouts, “Yeah, because this is the weight room!”
He rolls his eyes at that admittedly horrible joke. “Butt out of my personal life, will you?”
“I knew it!” someone else calls. “He’s got butt problems!”
“Oh my God,” Mitchell mutters, rubbing his forehead. Then louder, “I’m not gay! Give it a rest already!”
“If you’re not gay, then explain your lover’s spat with Fossoway last week.”
My ears perk up because that name is precisely why I’m here. I open my mouth, but I don’t get a chance to speak.
“Gay or not, you need to get laid, man!”
“How long’s it been? Years?
“Are you a Boy Scout?”
“Relax and live a little! You’re in the big leagues now! Enjoy it!”
With each additional piece of life advice, Mike’s face gets redder and redder. I’m not sure whether it’s from anger or embarrassment. Both of which I totally empathize with. He finally explodes, leaping off his bench like his butt might actually have problems. In that it’s on fire. He stands so close to me; I can actually see the split second of hesitation in his eyes.
In the next heartbeat, my theory is proven right. So right.
If only it wasn’t so wrong.
That thought is impossible to maintain when strong, capable hands grip my hips and knead until I’m nearly purring. A decidedly inelegant squeak escapes my throat as I’m hauled against six feet of solid muscle. The instinct to let my hands explore every plane and deep ridge forces me to fist his damp shirt to stave off my baser instincts. Firm lips and a warm, soft tongue obliterate any other attempt at sensibility. If I’ve ever been kissed like this, I don’t remember it. I’m not sure I’ll remember my own name after even one more minute of this exquisite torture.
Thankfully, he pulls away before I can completely lose myself.
All my hopes for salvation go up in flames as his mouth migrates to the sensitive spot just below my ear, his lips tickling my prickly skin as he speaks. “Follow my lead.”
I’m not sure I could walk a straight line right now, much less follow him anywhere.
Seeming to sense my knees are close to buckling, he drags me away as laughter and more comments pelt me from all sides. The cacophony is barely enough to stop my mind from spinning.
“Give it to her good!”
“Don’t come back here until you’re a man again!”
“Can I watch?”
Heck, I want to watch what Mike Mitchell is undoubtedly capable of, and pornography is not something I’ve ever engaged in.
Once we’re safely in the much quieter hallway, he releases me from his surprisingly gentle grip then rounds on me. “I’m sorry, but I’m not interested. I’ll pay for your wasted time though, unless whoever hired you paid up front.”
The conversation and events that went over my head in the weight room catch up to me with his offer. “You think I’m a prostitute?
