Original - ADM Vol. 2

Illusions — we all create them.

For some it’s to project an impressive image to a prospective employer; for others it’s to attract the eye of another.

My illusion is a bit more…complicated.

Years in the making, my secret has the potential to bite me in the ass. And not in the way I typically enjoy.

Sex.

As women, we’re judged for reveling in the same carnal pleasures that men do, but I’ve never been shy about my voracious appetite.

Now, I’m under no illusions that I’ll find love with any of my one night stands.

After all, I have one rule — no repeats — but it’s a rule that’s becoming harder to follow since Evan James came back into my life.

Did I say back into my life?

My name is Reagan Spencer, and you may think you know me, but…

How well do we really know anyone?

“Blondie,” he called out, and lifted his hand in a wave.

She dashed over, out of the rain, and lowered the umbrella as she came to a stop in front of him. His eyes automatically zoomed in on her plumped-up breasts, and the first thought that ran through her mind was, Score one for me. Slightly juvenile, perhaps, but a much more appropriate thought than the ones she’d been having prior to getting out of the cab.

“I wasn’t sure you’d brave the weather tonight. Thought I might end up going stag.”

Shaking the umbrella, Reagan brought her eyes up to his and let her mouth curl into a wicked smile.

“Please, I’m at my best when wet.”

Evan’s eyes heated as he seemed to bite his tongue. “Already pulling out the big guns, I see.”

“Oh no, honey, I haven’t even started. I’m saving my true arsenal for the men who count.”

Evan cocked his head to the side, but didn’t appear offended as a small smile tugged his lips. “I see how it is.”

“Do you?”

“Yes. You’re gonna go all sex kitten, and I’m going to be stuck asking about feelings and shit.”

As they moved toward the door, and Evan reached for the handle and pulled it open, Reagan stopped and looked up at him.

“You do have feelings, don’t you, Evan?”

He leaned down until his mouth was by her ear and whispered, “I’m having a very strong feeling right now.”

Reagan’s stomach flipped, and she ignored the urge to flirt back with the man grinning at her, instead scoffing before patting his arm. “Well, you should make sure to tell that to the first young lady you sit down with.”

“If she’s a lady, I’m thinking she won’t appreciate that particular feeling.”

“Then what does that make me?”

Brushing past him, she felt his hand against her hip through the tight material of her dress. She didn’t have to have eyes in the back of her head to know he was staring at her ass.

“That makes you fucking dangerous.”

The Authors

About Brooke

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before
elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas.

Her first solo novel, a romantic comedy, is due out in early 2015, but first, she thought she’d write a raunchy story with her best friend that would scar
her conservative southern family for life.

If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find – just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten
years.

BLP REVIEW ~ TRACY

Illusion
noun:

1. An instance of a wrong or misinterpreted perception of a sensory experience: stripes embellish the surface to create the illusion of various wood-grain textures

1.1. A deceptive appearance or impression

1.2. A false idea or belief:

Book 2 of ‘A Desperate Man’ introduces us more fully to Reagan. We had come across her at the very start of book 1 but then found out her sexfest with our Mr ‘bonkingonthebrain’ James wasn’t entirely a happy coincidence……
Man, we thought Evan was the one with issues, it would seem that the secrets, and indeed illusions, stretch far and wide…

Blondie hides behind a mask – she would have the world believe that she’s a grab ‘you by the balls, take no shit, man killer’ but me thinks the lady doth protest too much. I feel she’s hiding a fragile heart behind that eye-popping cleavage of hers!!! I can’t wait to find out her secrets!!!

In this instalment we see that Evan is doing a hell of a lot better than I expected – which made me a very happy bunny….. I’m not really sure that we were supposed to like him from the start but ~ maybe because I like a broken, busted and slightly fucked up hero ~ I loved him!!!
We find that he’s got a sense of humour, a warmth, an allure and all round likeability that doesn’t all come down to how well he can sexually satisfy a woman!!!

There were a couple of funny incidents in this read and the real characters of them both came through a little. Together R & E were funny, flirty, endearing and downright sexy & hot….

A couple of things I was thinking I was on my way to figuring out when Ella & Brooke threw in a couple of sneaky twists and turns…. before leaving us on a bit of a cliffhanger….. I cannot wait for book #3 to see how things pan out for this pair!!!

A seriously high five to the girls for an fanfuckintastic series!!!

He stopped me with another blood-melting kiss. And a lot more.

The second our mouths slammed again, he hauled me up from the mattress, molding my body against his, stopping our clutch long enough to growl out a single directive. “On your knees, Camellia.” As soon as I curled my legs in compliance so our upright torsos were smashed tight, he claimed my lips again, growing our passion with longing, plunging sweeps of his mouth. New position? Definite thumbs up. I now had the chance to explore the sinewy plateaus of his back before scratching down the slopes of his shoulders.

Gaaahhh. He was…breathtaking. A living work of art, captivating me anew every time he moved. I longed to beg for a whole day of just touching him—though now, with his cock fitted against my cleft, the request got shoved to the bottom of the priorities list. Impatience, almost anxiety. Hell, how I craved him inside me, hot and huge and—

Now.

Only my jeans remained between us. Not an issue for much longer if I could help it.

I slipped my hands from his shoulders to take care of it, but had only the button twisted free when Evrest grabbed me by both wrists, wrenching them over my head.

My fingers collided with something…metal? I looked up. Sure enough, he wound my grip around a shiny steel rod, suspended on chains from the bed’s sturdy canopy support system.

Okaayyy. Interesting. My pulse tripled, easily acknowledging a fresh flood of sensations. Fear. Excitement. Fear again. What the hell now? The stare I shot to Evrest yielded what I anticipated—his alpha wolf eyes at their strongest, his rugged jaw at its stoniest—conveying his low command before he even uttered it.

“Keep them there.”

My chest pumped as his just had. What a difference a few minutes made. I thought of how he’d surrendered his erection into my hands, trusted me with the most vulnerable part of his anatomy, allowed me to pleasure him…and now, stretched into a similar position, breasts jutting and body stretched, questioned why it was so hard for me to do the same.

Because this reminds you that your body isn’t the only thing bared to him right now? Because with every passing moment, in bigger and bigger chunks, your spirit is investing in this, too? Perhaps even your heart?

I got rid of the thoughts by plunging back into humor. “Ah. So this is the part with the handcuffs.”

One side of his mouth lifted. Not in a smile. “No handcuffs.”

My chest tightened a little more. Another battle between anticipation and trepidation. “Well, where’s the fun in that?”

“No handcuffs. Not needed.” His hands skated down my arms until curving in at my waist. He brought his face closer, angling over me. “You’ll simply obey me, Camellia—because you want to. We both know it.”

“Because I’m a good little girl?” I teased.

“Because you are not.”

He was so close again. His breaths were full of pepper, paprika, and a touch of nectar, a blend of spicy and sweet making me a little dizzy—and a lot aroused. What he demanded of me, with this position alone…the openness, exposure, honesty…exposed so much of me in other ways. My skin was pure electricity. My muscles flexed with readiness. And my sex…hell yes, more than ready. Needing. Clenching.

And wet. So damn wet…

“Your blood sings in the key of naughty, Camellia. And your body…fuck, I can feel it…your sweet, beautiful body hums with the vibration of wicked. And your spirit longs to free it all but you have kept it locked away, in that cage deep inside your soul, simply praying somebody will find it and open the door.” As his hands slipped lower, finding the waistband of my jeans, he fit his head into the curve of my neck. “I am going to open your door, Camellia. And you shall step from that cage, free to show me who you really are. Free to give flight to that creature at the backs of your eyes, restlessly pacing, wanting her dark sky to soar in. I am going to light the stars in that sky for you…then watch in awe as you make them all shiver as you pass.”

About Author

Hi there. I’m Angel: book lover, writing addict, hopeless romantic, pop culture geek and avid shoe lover.

A bit about me…

I’ve been hooked on books since I was a kid but it got worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances–the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer manliness surrounded me, was certainly a good boost for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I guess you could say I was doomed–though my path toward romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets…backstage passes…that was a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, personal assistant work for a record producer, dance club disc jockey, and a lot of fun in the hospitality industry.

These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with our beautiful daughter. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.

Excerpt
“I don’t know what you want from me,” I whisper. Communication was never this hard. The distance growing further between us as each day passes makes me afraid that this is what we’ve become.
“I just want to bring you happiness, baby,” he sighs, but before I can tell him I don’t think he can, Harlow’s cries come through the monitor. I move off the bed to go to her, knowing she will need to be fed.
“You walk out of this room, Kadence, you walk out on me.” His cold tone stops me from moving any further. It’s the same tone he used in the bathroom. “Leave her,” he commands, but the thought of continuing this conversation, where we tear each other down, has me fighting him.
“Nix, I have to check on her.” I continue to the door.
“Don’t you dare leave this fuckin’ room. I’m important too. I’m your fuckin’ husband. Do you hear me? We are important.” His hand sweeps across his nightstand, causing one big crash that sends everything tumbling to the floor. I’m frozen in place, my hand resting on the door handle. The room is silent. The shock of what has gone on tonight so raw I don’t think either of us knows how to process it.
“I don’t know what you want from me,” I repeat, closing my eyes when Harlow’s cries grow louder, sending my anxiety rising. Doesn’t he know he’s only making it worse?
“Jesus, I don’t know. Give me a look, smile at me…fuckin’ touch me. Give me a connection that says we’re on the same fuckin’ side. I can’t continue to stay in this place we are in. I’m drowning here, Kadence. We both are, and I just don’t know if I can keep treading water for both of us. You have to help me, baby. You have to want us to survive.” He falls to the bed, his head dropping to his hands. Seeing him like this, in this state makes me realize that our situation is bigger than me, than him. It’s bigger than either one of us realize.
“That’s not fair.” I release the handle and turn, collapsing against the wall. The wind knocks out of me as his words resonate within me. We are drowning and I have to stop fighting. At this realization, my knees become weak. Standing becomes too hard. I slide down the wall, dropping my ass to the carpet.
“Life isn’t fair, Kadence. I wish it was, but it just isn’t. Look where we both have come from; look where life has taken us. We won’t survive if you won’t talk to me, Kadence. Talk to someone.” He stands to come to me, but having him in my space only makes things worse.
“Please don’t.” I draw in a breath, defeated. His frustration and concerns only prove what a bad mother I’ve been, what a bad wife I’ve become.
“Don’t what, Kadence? Don’t make me walk away. I want my wife back. I don’t know what’s happened, but I don’t like who you’ve become.” His voice is pained, as broken as my soul feels. His confession doesn’t surprise me, but it still burns. I know I don’t like who I’ve become. How do I expect Nix to like me?
“You don’t think I ask myself that question every day? That I don’t look at myself and ask what is wrong with me? I don’t know who I’ve become, Nix. All I know is I should. I should know who I am.” My head thuds against the wall in defeat. I can’t keep going on like this. I can hear Harlow’s cries quietening, as she resettles herself, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting out of this room.
“I know who you are, Kadence. You’re the woman I love. The most amazin’ mother to our daughter, our son.” Saying Z is my son pulls at me harder. The fact that he, too, is affected by what is happening hurts even more. Nix walks over and squats to my level, careful not to get into my space, but close enough for me to reach out and touch him if I wanted to.
“Why don’t I know that? I should know that Nix.”
“You don’t have to know. I know, the kids know and that’s enough.”
“It’s not enough for me.” My hand itches to touch him, to feel his hardness under my fingers, but sitting broken on the floor of our bedroom, I know I can’t. I can’t touch the man who means everything to me and I hate myself for it.
“When did you stop trustin’ yourself?”
“I don’t know. When did I stop being myself?” I counter, and my admission halts him for a moment. He crawls forward, coming closer into my space. His warmth, his calming presence wraps itself all over me.
“The first step is askin’ for help, baby. Let me help you. You don’t have to be alone. Let me learn to breathe the ugliness you see. Let me share the darkness, Kadence. Just don’t push me away.” His pleading pulls at me, pulls at the hatred that has settled inside.
“I’m not doing good, Nix,” I say, looking up and giving him what he needs. What I need. “Somewhere along the way, I woke completely lost and overwhelmed. And every day, it gets harder and harder to deal.” A sob tears from deep within me, and walls I’ve been hiding behind crumble down.
“I know, baby.” He pulls me into the hardness of his chest. “We’re gonna be okay,” he promises, and everything in me wants to believe him. Everything in me wants to trust he has me. That he has us. But the truth is, I’ve drowned in so much self-doubt and uneasiness, that trust seems so far away.

BLP REVIEW ~ REBECCA

Anyone for a quickie with Nix???

#NIXFIX

Nix is just divine if you enjoy dirty talking, possessive, alpha males with attitude and a bike, what’s that I hear? Of course, it’s all the panties dropping!! His smirk, dirty talking and pretty much anything Nix I enjoyed.

I wrote that when I reviewed Incandescent and am totally smitten for life after Reclaimed.

Reclaimed is a quickie little novella covering a timespan of around a year, you really need to read the other two books first to get the best from it and just because they’re damn good. Kadence is a new mom, baby Harlow having arrived to complete the family, however all is not well as she is suffering with Post Natal Depression.

“I don’t know what is happening to me. Spending my days tired, angry and in tears has become my normal. Low is everything I asked for, everything I need. So why does it feel like I have made a mistake?”

This is a difficult subject that is either not discussed or glossed over a lot of the time, River Savage does a really good job of showing how this affects the whole family not just mom, Nix is also lost and floundering as much as Kadence – from a strong connected loving relationship they go to a stilted, uncomfortable, treading on eggshells existence.

My wife is so fucking lost – lost in her own world of hopelessness – We’re not ok

Nix is just totally bloody delicious with how he deals with Kadence and the depression, loving, mostly patient (!), supportive, dominating when needed and swoon worthy the whole book through. A top of the list book husband.

Your heart will break for Kadence, she has everything she ever wished for but is struggling every single day to cope with no idea why it’s so hard, where did it unravel and how to find her way back.

The banter, be it funny, teasing, rude, sweet or dirty between these two just flows effortlessly. They are one of my favourite couples to read, combine that with the author showing that real life, marriage, kids and all the other day to day shit takes a toll on a relationship, hearts, flowers, rainbows and glitter isn’t easy, takes work and this is a winning combination. Easy, fast and enjoyable to read, my only complaint would be that it’s not long enough. Because it’s Nix. Never enough. Need more. Double would be good. Or a new book. Soon…………………………

Coffee Beans Part I

The wind howls and the palm trees whip against the windows as the storm seems to make its way closer to landfall. Thunder booms and lightning lights up the room, startling me. No, not lightning—a lamp.

“Hello, Zoey.” The voice is deep and husky.

As the sound registers, I scream. I quickly sit up and scan my unfamiliar surroundings. My eyes immediately land on the silhouette of a man standing beside me, and I scream again, this time scrambling off the bed in terror.

In this moment, my heart stops beating, my lungs stop breathing, and my brain stops thinking. I’m petrified.

The man raises his palms up in surrender. “Zoey, I’m Nate, Z’s friend. You don’t have to be scared. I’m not going to hurt you.”

My fear must be evident. I stare at him for a few long moments, both alarmed and trembling. Only once realization sets in, that yes, this is Nate, my brother’s best friend, do I attempt to calm my ragged breaths.

He takes a cautious step back. “Just cover up with something so we can talk.”

Oh my God, my clothes.

Tangled sheets catch on my limbs as I climb back onto the bed and unsuccessfully try to pull the covers over my practically naked body. Before humiliation grabs complete hold of me, I give up and dive for my soaking wet shirt lying on the floor.

Sliding the cold fabric over my head, I pull it down to cover my panties and stand up, quickly crossing my arms over my chest to shield any signs of the chill I’m feeling.

Not great, but better. At least I can look at him with a little dignity.

Finally, I glance up and my gaze catches his. As soon as it does, he drops his eyes.

The photos I’ve seen of him over the years, when my brother would text me a funny shot—a selfie of him and Nate at some top chef restaurant, at the beach, or at a coffee house—didn’t nearly do him justice. Those shots were goofy poses with baseball caps turned backwards and funny faces. Not that I didn’t think he was good looking in them, because I did, but there’s just something different about him.

I blink and focus on the matter at hand. “You scared the shit out of me. What are you doing here?”

Staring at the ground, he leans against the door jam. “You beat me to the punch. I was just about to ask you the same question.”

“Why would you ask me that?”

He raises a brow. “I guess I’m just curious.”

I sigh, feeling confused.

His gaze lifts, and those eyes, those bewitching emerald green eyes, stare back at me. “Not that I mind that you’re here. It’s just—a little warning would have been nice. That’s all.”

His tone is more bemused than apologetic.

I’m not sure what to think.

With a straight and confident stance, I clear my throat. “I e-mailed you earlier today to let you know that I was coming for the weekend. I’m really sorry about the late notice, but I decided at the last minute.”

He reaches into the pocket of his low-slung jeans and pulls out his phone. After a few taps and scrolls he looks up at me. “I guess you did. Here it is. I’m usually on top of my e-mails but today my . . . schedule was full. Had I seen your message, I would have tried to rearrange my plans.”

“That’s fine really. I managed. It’s not a big deal.”

I steal a glance at my reliable Timex—just after midnight. What is he doing in my brother’s house in the middle of the night? Just as I’m about to ask him, my eyes catch sight of the way he predatorily walks around the room and I’m momentarily distracted. He moves like a panther— slowly circling his prey, keeping his distance, not too close, but close enough to pounce if he feels the urge. He settles back against the wall, just a little closer now. “Zoey, did you hear me?”

I swallow. “Sorry, what?”

His tone grows more insistent. “I said I would have at least sent a car for you. You shouldn’t be out in this weather on your own.”

My brow furrows. Why is he still talking about the airport?

When I don’t respond, he crosses his arms over his chest like he owns the place.

It’s then that reality sinks in. And as cliché as this sounds, I am not going to let Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome intimidate me. It’s time to take charge. “There was no need. I managed just fine. But if you didn’t know I was coming, can I ask what you’re doing here?”

Confusion seems to have taken over his thoughts as he steps even closer—moving with a lethal grace that makes my body start to hum. I can’t help but study him as his features come into clear focus. His body is long and lean. His hair is dark, the most unusual shade of brown, maybe like the color of expensive chocolate, but not exactly. His eyes are languid, watchful, and the most beautiful shade I’ve ever seen—darker than emeralds or the deepest of forest greens. His

lips look full and soft. He is handsome in a way that is unlike anyone I’ve ever seen.

My mind is going haywire.

A look of realization seems to cross his face as he stares at me.

“Nate, why are you at my brother’s house in the middle of the night?” I ask him again.

With a smirk, he ignores my question. Instead of answering me, he opens the door beside him. It’s a closet, Zach’s closet to be exact, and he steps right in, again like he owns the place.

“What are you doing?” I ask impatiently.

He comes back into the bedroom with a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt in his hand. “You’re trembling. How about you get changed and we sit down to talk?”

The audacity of this man is beyond comprehension. From his e-mails he seemed nice, but then again, you never can tell what lurks behind the words on a computer screen.

He stares and his small smirk really irritates me. “Take these, they’re mine. I’ll wait downstairs while you get changed.”

If I weren’t standing here, chilled and in my underwear, I might just tell him to go to hell. But instead I reach for the clothes, and as I do, I start to wonder if he’s been squatting in my brother’s house. Once the clothes are in my hands, his mouth spreads into a slow, easy grin.

Annoyance grabs hold of me as I pivot on my bare feet and head toward the bathroom, making sure not to glance over my shoulder. When I hear heavy footsteps, I let my body fall back and shut everything out of my mind for a few short seconds.

What is going on?

When I’ve gathered my composure, I quickly strip out of my wet clothes and redress. Then I make the mistake of looking in the mirror. A wet dog would look better than I do right now. In an effort to improve the image, I grab a towel and wipe the black mascara from under my eyes. Then I use my fingers to comb through my mass of curls and try to calm them, but that’s nearly impossible.

Okay, better—but not great.

Who cares anyway?

It’s not like I’m trying to impress him. In fact, I’ve never tried to impress a man.

 the 27 club

You don’t know when…

You don’t get to choose if…

When it’s time to join…you’ll know.

You might think you want to be a member—but trust me this is one club you don’t want to join. It’s not a place where people go to live out their deepest, darkest sexual desires—there are no handcuffs or blindfolds.

The 27 Club only admits those who die young and tragically. My brother was recently bestowed membership and joined many of our ancestors before him. I know I’m next. This is my destiny, and I was ready to yield.

But then I met Nate. He awakened a sensuality in me that had never been explored, never satisfied. I knew then I could no longer accept my destiny. Nate’s presence controls me. I’m overwhelmed by his touch, his words; my every thought is consumed by desire. I believe he was brought into my life for a reason.

Nate doesn’t believe in destiny.

But I do.

And if there’s a way to cheat it—I must.

SNIPPET

Looking deeply into those hypnotic hazel eyes of hers where all the secrets of the world seem to exist my heart just starts to talk.

“Pleasuring you Elizabeth, taking you to places where you lose yourself, where your body screams with unbounded desire and every nerve ending in your delicious little body is on fire from my touch, that is what I want, that is what I was put on this earth for. I’m going to do wonderfully wicked things to you and you’re going to love every minute of it.”

She leans in to kiss me, her hand slides through the back of my hair pulling me closer, her arousal feeding into me with her kiss telling me she’s mine.

Releasing me, breathlessly she says, “Let’s go home so I can finish up with Elsie then we can start playing.” Her smile is sinfully hungry.

“Like I said, baby, you’re the best kind of bad.” This incredible woman never ceases to amaze me.

Excerpt

There wasn’t much that could put that look on Owen’s face. In all their years together as quasi-brothers, best friends and pack mates, Tyson had only seen that particular look a handful of times and he knew there would be no time off for him for the foreseeable future. As pack enforcer it was Tyson’s job to find the reason for the look on his Alpha’s face and bring justice. He was protector, detective, judge and jury. His hands were bloodier than anyone else’s in the Adirondack Park and maybe even in the state of New York. Justice often meant death because once a wolf went over the line, there was no coming back.
Tyson could see the line. He knew where it stood and where those in his pack stood in relation to it. Being feared and often times hated was just one of the downfalls of the job. Neither of which bothered him.
Owen was alpha. He was the most dominate wolf in the pack and that meant he was the one they relied on. The one they turned to for help. The one who would protect them with everything he had. The pack was his family’s legacy but that didn’t mean it was his birthright, he was just right for the job. When someone was born to do something, nothing not even being an outcast, could stop them from being who they were meant to be.
Tyson was meant to bring justice and protect the pack.
Owen was meant to lead.
“I can tell by your expression that you have good news for me,” Tyson strolled into Owen’s office and took one of the seats in front of the massive oak desk.
Owen glanced up from the newspaper he had spread out. Usually a remark like that would have gotten a rise out of him but Owen was too far lost in thought to do much more than show mild interest. Whatever it was had caused his best friend to suppress the man and the alpha wolf to take charge.
“Just tell me,” he said this time.
A snarl was just barely being held back. “There was another one.” For a guy who usually spoke in low, soft tones he knew how to add venom when needed. Tyson reached across the desk and turned the newspaper around. Another body ravaged by animals. But it wasn’t just an animal that had torn and bit into the flesh of the dead man, it was one of them, a werewolf, shifter, lycanthrope. The killing was a message, just not one the human population could read. The message, like all the rest, was for them.
Humans are fodder. Nothing more, nothing less.
A radical group of wolf shifters who liked to call themselves “Canidae,” believe that between the two halves of the lycanthrope soul, the wolf is the stronger half and they should lean towards the way of the animal. Their kind has evolved. At one point, they had leaned heavily on the wolf side of their instincts but in the world as it is today, they rely on the human rather than wolf.
“Canidae?” he asked but only for confirmation.
“What do you think?”
That would be a yes. “What are you thinking, Owen. Obviously something if you called me in here.”
“I haven’t wanted to make waves with Canidae.”
“I know.” Everything Owen did, he did for the good of the pack. Keeping his head down in this debate may have been seen as submissive by some, but Tyson knew it had kept many of them alive.
“I’ve kept middle of the line even though I think they are a bunch of ass sniffing dogs who only want a reason to kill freely. This though,” he tapped the newspaper, “this is their way of telling me to pick a side. Three dead in the last month. We can’t have that. Many more and the police will start connecting the dots.”
Government intervention was the very last thing any of them wanted. The government knew about their kind unlike the rest of the human population. They had yet to do any more than make idle threats. However giving them bodies, gave them a reason to make nice on those threats.
“I think we have a mole. Someone is feeding Canidae leaders pack information. I’ve been talking to the White Mountain pack and they were having the same problems. Turns out, someone from their pack was in Canidae and they were slowly gathering followers. I don’t want to believe any of ours would go against me like that but…”
“Yeah, but.” Tyson saw just how honest and honorable wolves could be. He had no doubts that there were some in their pack that were capable of espionage and brutal human killings.
Owen folded up the paper and filed it in his desk, probably with all the other articles from the past year on animal killings and attacks. There was something else that was bothering him. Tyson saw anger and exhaustion in Owen’s face. Canidae was the cause behind the anger, but he never lost sleep over it.
“Everything ok?”
His laugh was half sigh. “No. Lee’s on her kick again.”
“Jesus,” he groaned. “After almost two years you’d think she would get it through that thick doctor scull of hers that you love her.”
“You’d think,” he agreed. “I can’t really blame her though. I quell the gossip when I hear it but it always gets back to her.”
“Those old hags can go fuck themselves. So she can’t have kids. It’s not like it’s the end of the world.”
“No, just the end of my line.” He wasn’t bitter per se, but Tyson heard the accusation. They had been dancing around their mutual attraction ever since they were pups. Unable to have kids wasn’t a deal breaker for Owen but it was always there between them. They worked together as long as Lee couldn’t hear the gossip.
The clock in the corner of the room struck three with long deep gongs. Both of them looked and waited for the sound to end. Tyson hated that clock. He needed to be going anyway. Jenny was expecting him soon. “What do you need of me?” he asked referring to the Canidae problem.
Owen looked him square in the face. “To do your job.”

[ob-li-gey-shuh n]
An obligation is a course of action that someone is required to take, whether legal or moral.
At six years old, Myla was sent to a family her father and mother had chosen for her when they knew their time on earth was almost up. What they were unaware of was what they thought would be her safe haven would become her living hell.
Kai has been watching Myla from afar since he took over the family business from his father and inherited the responsibility of keeping her safe. When word gets back to Kai that Myla is not only in danger, but that his assets are being compromised, he immediately jumps into action and does the only thing that can be done at the time by marrying her.
Neither Myla nor Kai would have thought that something that started off as a farce would become the most important thing either of them could’ve ever done.

Excerpt #1
“Everyone is looking for you.”
I turn my head, pulling my hair out of my face as I watch a boy I’ve never seen before climb up the stairs and into my tree house.
“Who are you?” I ask him as he sits across from me.
“Kai,” he smiles, looking around. He looks a lot different than the other kids I know. His hair is long, and his skin is a lot darker than mine. “Why are you hiding?”
I shrug and look away from him. Daddy was yelling earlier; he was so mad that he was turning red. Then Mommy started crying, and Daddy started yelling louder. I heard Mommy telling Daddy that he had to send me away. I don’t want to go away. I try to be good, but sometimes, I forget to listen.
“Why are you crying?”
I look up at him and wipe my face. “I’m scared,” I whisper, wiping my nose.
“Come on. I’ll protect you,” he says, holding his hand out to me.
Then my mommy calls my name again. I look at his hand, move Mr. Bear under my arm, and put my hand in his.
“Myla!” Mommy yells, running towards me.
I can tell she has been crying again.
“Where did you go?” Her hands grab my shoulders and she shakes me hard.
“It’s my fault. I asked her to show me the tree house,” Kai tells her.
She stops shaking me then looks at him. “You shouldn’t have done that. You knew we were looking for her,” she says angrily her head.
“I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking,” Kai says softly, putting his hands in his pockets and looking at the ground.
I look back at Mommy, and she shakes her head before grabbing my hand and pulling me with her. When I look over my shoulder at Kai, he smiles, making me smile back.
Portrait of handsome couple gently kissing

Excerpt 2
I feel the sun on my closed eyelids and something sharp poking me in the face. Moving my hand, trying to get away from the pain, I whimper when it scrapes against my cheek. I lift my head and run my fingers along the side of my face, feeling wetness. Opening my eyes to see a light smear of blood on my fingers. I flip my hand over, and then I see the gaudy ring that is now taking up residence on my ring finger.
“Great,” I whisper, closing my eyes and laying my head down again.
I prayed earlier, before I went to sleep, that when I woke up, the ring I’m wearing now and the man who put it there would be nothing but a bad dream. No such luck. I roll over and take a shaky breath, wanting to close my eyes for a few more seconds, wishing I could just sleep until everything was back to normal.

They say when you assume that you make an ass out of you and me. Kenton Mayson learned this lesson firsthand when he made assumptions about Autumn Freeman and the kind of woman she is based on what little information he had. What he finds out is she’s not only beautiful, but also smart, funny, a fighter, and exactly the kind of woman he wants to share his life with. Autumn made assumptions of her own about Kenton, and now he needs to prove her wrong in order to protect her and their future.

“I need you naked. Now.”

Lillian froze as soon as the frantic confession left his mouth.
“No,” she said, no longer pulling him close but pushing him away. “No, Tristan. Let me go.”
“Shit.” Heat gave way to ice in an instant.
His arms slipped from around her as soon as her feet were on the ground. She stumbled and then righted herself, one hand pressed to her mouth and her eyes wide and wary in her flushed face.
Tristan cursed at that look. “Lillian, I’m-“
“No.” She shook her head, her hand still pressed to her swollen lips. Her expression hardened. “You don’t get to kiss me like that, Tristan. You don’t get to rile me up and then walk out. I won’t-” She gulped, practically babbling. “You can’t just… Not again.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” he said, looking down at her. “I’m not going to-“
“Not going to what?” Her eyes flashed, daring him to answer that question.
“I’m not-” He wanted to tell her he wouldn’t walk away, but he wasn’t so sure that was true. He wanted her, but he wouldn’t fuck her when she’d only regret it, and she would have regretted it. “It’s not you,” he told her instead, wishing he could take back the ill-advised words the moment they left his mouth.
Lillian flinched as if he’d struck her, her face paling beneath the flush in her cheeks. “Not me?” She laughed, the sound jagged and harsh, angry. “Right.”
Way to go, you moron, he cursed himself.
“I want you, Lillian. That hasn’t changed.” He blew out a breath, frustrated that he couldn’t seem to think straight around her, let alone find words to explain why he kept walking away from her. “I just-“
“You want me, just not enough.” Her wide, angry eyes met his, held for a moment, and then darted away. She ran a hand through her hair, fingers catching in snarls he’d helped cause. “Fine. What happens now?” The faint tremble in her voice screamed that he’d hurt her.
“I want you more than I did the first night,” he said, ignoring her question. They weren’t doing that shit, avoiding the issue until one or the other of them snapped. Christ, his blood still boiled. His mind was clouded by her scent, her taste. And yet again, she got it all wrong, assumed he didn’t want her enough when the problem was that he wanted her too much. But he didn’t want her to hate him, and he certainly didn’t want her to regret what he’d do to her when she finally gave in to him.
“Do you trust me, Lillian?” he asked instead of trying to explain.
She took another shaky breath and then cursed and squared her shoulders. Her expression firmed into one of cool resolve. “No, I don’t trust you. And I’m not sure I even like you.”
He nodded once, refusing to give in to the little ripple of hurt threatening to shoot through him at her answer. It wasn’t like he hadn’t expected that truth. Hell, wasn’t like he didn’t deserve it, either. “I want you, Lillian. I want you against that fucking wall.” He jerked his chin in the direction of the wall in question. “I want you bent over the table by the door. On the floor. In your bed. In mine. Across the street in the middle of the dance floor. Anywhere you’ll let me and every way you’ll let me.” He looked at her, letting her see exactly how much he meant that.
She swallowed, her wide-eyed gaze darkening, held captive by his own.
He took a step toward her, reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. Sparks sizzled and popped where his skin met hers. He let his arm drop slowly, dragging his fingertips down her cheek and onto her neck before shoving his hands deep into his pockets.
Pitching his voice low, he killed them both with words and one long, heated looked. “I want you panting, moaning, and screaming until you can’t move, baby. But I’m not going to fuck you when you’d just regret it later. When I take you to bed – and I do mean when, Lillian, not if. When I take you, you’re not going to regret sleeping with me. You’re going to know exactly how much I want you, and you’re going to beg for it.”

Excerpt:

Erica let herself into her parents’ home, the home she’d lived in from birth and listened for a moment to the laughter and voices coming from the dining room. It was Christmas Eve and she was late for the family dinner. Not that her family knew that since she hadn’t been able to guarantee she’d make it home for Christmas anyway.

It was just lucky that filming had finished early and she’d been able to get a seat on the first flight out of London. Someone had cancelled making a seat available and although she’d been stuck with an economy seat and jammed in between a quite large woman and a man who had spent most of the flight trying to chat her up, it had been worth it to get home that little bit quicker. She knew she could have called Daddy and he would have sent the company jet but she wanted to surprise her family when they really weren’t expecting her.

She stopped for a moment to check her appearance in the mirror over the hall stand and noticed the dark circles under her blue eyes, a blue that vivid they appeared almost purple under some lighting. Her auburn hair hung down one shoulder in a plait that finished just below her full breasts and she ran her hands down over her dress trying to smooth out the creases after being crammed in a plane for so many hours.

Slowly she moved towards the dining room, smiling as the voices grew louder the closer she got. Nathan was telling them something about his and his girlfriend Taylah’s last holiday together. Apparently she had managed to lock herself out of their room while only wearing a towel and Erica grinned to herself when everyone burst out laughing.

She made it to the dining room doorway and got her first look at her family in three months. Alice was there as were Beverly, Tom and Maggie but her eyes shifted past them to the tall figure of her Father standing by the window.
Even in his early 50’s he was still a very attractive man and to her he was her hero. She loved her Father, she always had. He had been her protector, her savior and the person who could never say no to her.

Nathan was seated at the table, the light shining on his strawberry blonde hair with Taylah by his side; her dark almost exotic looks a complete contrast to him.

Brooklyn and Charlotte occupied another couple of chairs at the table and Erica noticed Brooklyn had somehow talked her parents in to letting her get a nose piercing if the diamond glinting in it was any indication. At 15 they were looking so much more mature than she remembered but the phones in their hands as they texted or were on Facebook proved that they still had some maturing to do yet.

Her Mother was seated up the other end of the table, looking her usual unruffled self, her auburn hair the exact same color as Erica’s twisted into some elaborate knot at her nape.

Erica smiled at the sight of them all together, all the people she loved most in her life. Suddenly her Mother looked up and saw her standing there and a wide smile transformed her face at the sight of her eldest daughter.

“Erica, darling, you made it.” She stood up with her usual grace. Her Mother’s mention of her name was enough to draw the attention of everyone else and the chatter stopped briefly before everyone started getting to their feet to
come and greet her.

Before anyone reached her, she saw her father coming towards her with that long stride of his and he caught her up, swinging her around and around in his arms despite her protests and squeals at him.

He lowered her feet to the floor and pulled her into his arms for a hug, holding her tight and Erica realized at that moment how much her father had missed her. They’d been inseparable until her career had started to take off and now she was often gone for weeks or even several months at a time. Lately it was months and months in between visits back home.

“Daddy.” She said and that was all she could say as the tears started to fall and when she finally pulled back enough to see her father’s face, he had tears rolling down his cheeks too.

“I missed you so much Daddy.”

“Not as much as I’ve missed you sweet pea.” He told her huskily before hugging her tightly to him again.

Erica knew her father hated her job. She’d heard often enough about how he used to only date models years ago before Mum’s time. He’d found them shallow and self-centered so he had found it hard to accept that his own daughter had gone on to become a highly successful model.

He’d never once tried to stop her and had always been supportive and going by the collection of her professional photos hanging around the house, he was proud of her despite her career choice. Technically she hadn’t intended to get into modelling but it had been the fairy tale beginning for her. After being spotted at sixteen and talked into having some studio shots taken the rest as they say was history.

She had become an extremely wealthy woman from modelling but all that money didn’t mean much when her personal life was one huge mess. She had come home not just to see her family but to lick her wounds and recover from the physical and emotional damage done to her by her ex-boyfriend. She didn’t dare tell her father about what Liam had done to her. She just wanted to spend time with her family and try to push the whole horrible nightmare to the back of her mind.

With a huge grin on her face she pulled out of her father’s arms and turned to greet the rest of her family, her arms spread wide. “Well come on then, is Daddy the only one pleased to see me? Where’s my hugs?”

Her Mother stepped forward, a wide smile on her face, her arms outstretched and Erica walked into her embrace, dropping her head on her shoulder as she breathed in her Mother’s familiar vanilla scent. Before she could get too
comfortable though, she was pulled into Nathan’s arms and given a hug that tight, she winced. She fought to keep the pain from her expression because her pain was from more than his big bear hug embrace, it was pain from bones that were still healing. She didn’t want anyone to see that though so she struggled to mask her reaction from her family. She didn’t want anyone to know what had happened. She just needed time to get over this with the people she loved most around her. She needed time to forget what Liam had done to her. God, just thinking about him sent a shiver through her and Erica pulled away from her brother and with a false smile on her face she said. “I’m starving. Can your poor old daughter and sister get something to eat before I collapse?”

With bursts of laughter and Nathan teasing her about her not being entitled to anything more than a lettuce leaf given she was some big shot model, her family cleared a spot for her at the table.

Brooklyn and Charlotte dropped kisses on her cheeks when she sat down. Erica took the plate of food from her mother’s hands that seemed to have miraculously filled itself and began to eat. The constant noise and laughter from her family was both comforting and familiar to her. She realized just how much she’d missed it, how much she’d missed them. Being back with them like this would help for a short time at least. She could forget about the past, forget about the pain and try and push the hell Liam had put her through from her mind.

Even now as an adult woman with a partner and three children who are not so little anymore, I’ve always lived with my head in the clouds, a dreamer, often amusing myself with my own imagination. It might have taken me awhile to finally live my dream, but I did it. I hope to one day be good enough to stand beside the many talented writers out there who have kept me entertained with their wonderful stories over the years. I live in a sleepy country town in Tasmania, Australia with my partner and three children plus our 4 cats, dog and cattle. I’ve had to overcome many emotional obstacles along the way to get to this point and attempting to self-publish a book does tend to make a person feel like they’ve thrown themselves in at the deep end of the pool. Here’s hoping some of you actually like what I write and save me from drowning in the deep end as I probably forgot to mention, I can’t swim.

SYNOPSIS:

“You’ve owned me from the moment I walked into that music room. You’ve wrapped yourself in my heart and mind. I can’t get you out. I don’t want to.” ~ Rafael Van Rees

Sophie Fisher’s life is on fire. If she’s not ducking around corners or slipping out of windows to escape the debt collectors her father’s death has left knocking on her door, she’s dealing with her rebellious, fifteen-year-old sister, Lilli. And, as if that’s not enough, Rafael Van Rees crashes into her life—literally—bringing with him a past the public has no idea of. Can she unravel his mysteries before he unravels her, or will his presence finally force her to face the demons she’s trying to outrun?

Rafael Van Rees prides himself on being in control of his destiny, music and women. As far as he is concerned, his past is a black cloud in the distance–until he meets Sophie, that is, and his world spins out of control in more ways than one. He knows the darkest sins and secrets eventually reveal themselves, but when it comes to Sophie, he’ll stop at nothing to protect her from his past. Even if it kills him.

EXCERPT:

. . “Did you need something?”

“Just this . . .” I frame her face with my palms and brush my lips on hers. She sucks in a breath, her eyes fluttering shut. She grabs the front of my shirt as she sags forward, like her legs can’t hold her up anymore. Slipping one arm around her waist, I pull her curvy, soft body flush against my hard one, my lips still on hers.

Fuck yes! The buzz is still there. We were both young when we shared our first kiss, but this. This is different. Time hasn’t erased the connection between us. My heart recognizes her, beating to a rhythm that’s only hers.

Pulling back, I stare at the face that has lived in my head for years. Haunting me. Comforting me. Her eyes slowly open, and she blinks, looking dazed. She presses her fingers on her lips.

“You kissed me,” she whispers, as if it’s the most unusual thing. Does she not get kissed often? Her lips were made for kissing, and I can’t get my greedy eyes off them.

I tip my head to the side. “I did,” I say, pressing my thumb on her bottom lip, inching up to the labret. Her mouth parts slightly. I could kiss her again, slip my tongue past those delectable lips. Taste her. Really taste her.

“Goodbye, Sophie.” I drop my hand and turn to leave, then stop. “Nice tattoo, by the way. A butterfly.” I emphasize the last word to get a reaction. Nothing.

“Mr. Van R–Rafael. Do we know each other?”

Christ, the way she says my name has every part of my body straining, wanting to hear her say it again.

“Do we?” I lift a brow.

Her frown deepens, and her bewitching eyes, smoky after the shared semi-kiss, narrow at me.

I’m not about to tell her. I need to find out why she can’t remember me first. “Drive safely, Sophie.” I turn, and stride back to Simone’s music room. I feel her eyes on my back, my shoulders, my ass. I let her have her fill. I’m not going to deny her–and me–this chance. I’m selfish, but hey, she needs the image to go along with the kiss. Right before I turn the corner, she takes a loud, deep breath.

Damn right, Butterfly.

Excerpt 2

I stalk toward the car, my fists twitching at my sides. Another thud comes from the house. The image of her wrapped in someone’s arms is replaced by one that entirely chills my blood. I change directions and dash across the lawn to the front door. It’s locked. I lift my foot to kick it in, but pause when I hear sounds coming from the backyard. I round the corner, scanning the area. Two large backpacks lay on the lawn. A smaller one tumbles to the ground beside them. I jerk my gaze up, trailing it along the rope dangling from the roof.

What the fuck?

Sophie leans out a window on the second story, grabs the rope, murmuring under her breath, and wraps her booted legs around it, sliding down expertly. I groan, readjusting the front of my jeans as I watch her curvy ass descend. I move to stand below the window and wait, my hands ready and twitching. Who said stalking doesn’t have its benefits?

“What are we rehearsing for? Grand Theft House, or this is just a nightly thing?”

She squeals, flailing, and plunges into my arms, cursing words that have my ears burning. I let her squirming body slide against mine until her feet touch the wet grass.

I duck my head, leveling my lips to the shell of her ear. “Ladies don’t curse.”

She shivers, and whirls around to face me, her eyes on fire and her cheeks flushed. “If you haven’t noticed, I’m nowhere close to a lady. What the fuck are you doing here?”

“Saving you from breaking that pretty little neck.”

She stomps to the backpacks and picks them off the ground. “I don’t need saving.” One bag goes over her shoulder, the other around her chest.

“What’s with the Sedan outside?”

Her hands stop adjusting the smaller bag, and she sways as she tries to balance the extra weight. “They’ve been watching my house since my dad passed away.” She starts to walk toward the bushy fence on her right.

“Where are you going?”

“To my Honda.”

“In the bushes?” She ignores me, and walks off. I grab her arm and spin her around. I’m not in the mood to argue. If Josef called Kravic to tell him I was hanging around, we might be sitting ducks right now. “We need to talk. Now.”

She frowns. “I’m staying at Jace’s, and need to get back before everyone gets nervous.” Her gaze darts around. She licks her lips before looking up at me.

“They’ll be fine. Trust me. I have someone watching their flat. Look, I know about the people following you and Lilli around.”

She stumbles back, her eyes wide. “Wha–how did you know? Did Jace tell you? Oh my God, she did, didn’t she? I’m going to kick her ass from here to Russia.”

I step forward, grabbing her shoulders. “Stop freaking out, Sophie. Jace didn’t tell me anything.” She tries to shake herself from my grip, but I don’t let her go. “There’s so much I want to tell you, but we need to leave, okay? Trust me.”

“Not now–”

“Damn it, Sophie, listen to me! I know these men. They’re not here because they want to play house with you.”

“Of c–wait a second. You know them?”

Shit! This is not how I wanted to explain things. I nod once. I’m already balls deep into my confession. No point in trying to deny it now.

She studies me, and, for just a moment, I see fear reflected in her eyes. “And you want me to trust you, Rafael? How the fuck am I supposed to do that?”

She abruptly wiggles out of my hands, and darts toward the front of the house, dropping the backpacks.

“Damn it all to hell!” I tear after her, scooping her up before she rounds the corner. She shrieks, flailing her legs and arms, trying to dislodge my hold. One foot hits my balls. “Fucking hell! Stop that right now.” I growl in her ear.

Of course, she doesn’t. Clenching my jaw, I drop to the ground, making sure my body takes the impact, then flip around so she’s on her back. I pin her arms to the ground.

“Are you trying to castrate me? Seriously, Sophie, stop this struggling shit right now.”

“Let go of me you, you–”

“Sophie.”

She stops, glaring up at me. Tears swim in her eyes, reflecting the moonlight. She blinks hard, as if to push back the tears. Our ragged breathing fills the quiet night.

“Are you ready to listen to me?”

She swallows, and nods. I wait until I feel her body relax beneath mine, then ease my hands off her arms, and unpin her legs from my thighs. Her knee jerks up, toward my groin, and I tilt my hips fast.

“Bloody hell!” I grab her biceps, let my body drop onto hers, and capture her mouth with mine, swallowing her yelp.

Christ, she tastes like fire and tears and fear. Her mouth is the most fantastic thing I’ve ever tasted. Her bunched muscles relax beneath my fingers as a whimper rushes through her mouth. Pulling back, I nip her jaw, tracing a path to her ear and running my tongue over its outline.

“You taste so damn good, Sophie. Want to kick me again?”

She doesn’t answer. I pull back, quirking a brow at her. Fuck, she’s so beautiful with her flushed cheeks and plump, sweet lips.

She shakes her head.

“Good.” I brush that little dimple on her chin with my fingertips. “Trust. Me.”

She bites the corner of her bottom lip and nods. “This talk had better be good, or I might stab you while you sleep.”
