“I’m capable of taking care of myself, you know!”
He smirked at me looking amused. “Sweetheart, I’ve seen you in action so that’s not up for debate, but no fucker is gonna put his hands on you like that when I’m around.”
I lifted my chin at him in defiance. “What’s it gotta do with you?” I sounded like a petulant teenager, but he just grinned at me, his arrogance riling me up further. “We’ll see”
He pushed me back toward the table before addressing Christian and Maddie, “I’m gonna take her home.” He indicated at me with a jerk of his head and I exploded, my temper finally getting its release after the arsehole on the dancefloor.
“Excuse me! I’m right here! I’ll go home when I damn well please, not when you say, who the bloody hell do you think you are!” He grinned at me and rolled his eyes, infuriating me almost to the point of combustion.
Maddie pulled herself upright into a sitting position, trying to extricate herself from Christian’s grasp. “We’re going now too. C’mon Lee I’ll come as well” Maddie tried to pacify me but Nate shook his head.
“You guys stay, or go together. Whatever,” He shrugged. “I’m taking Lena”
Maddie’s eyes flicked to me uncertainly as I looked at him stunned, trying to think of a response more eloquent than “Fuck off!”
Maddie started to speak, but Christian whispered in her ear just as Nate cut her off. “It’s not a request. I’ll have her text you”
His playfulness from earlier had been replaced by a cool confident authority. I gaped at him as he spoke to her. As he turned back to me I met him with a face like thunder, which caused a huge grin to break across his face again.
I glanced back at Maddie for help, expecting her to be outraged at Nate’s behaviour but she was smirking at me, looking somewhat impressed with him. Trust her to be taken in with the caveman behaviour.
I felt like stamping my foot and shouting. This is not how I was used to being treated. This was not how I allowed myself to be treated. I was a grown woman of nearly 25; I did what I wanted when I wanted. I was practically running a company for God’s sake.
As if sensing my newfound resolve Nate cocked an eyebrow at me a small smile playing on his lips as he leaned in “Don’t make me throw you over my shoulders Princess. There are a number of ways you can make your exit but you should know every one of them involves me” He winked at me looking relaxed, an arrogant smirk on his face. I scowled back but allowed him to lead me from the bar.
The cold night air hit me and I realised how unsteady on my feet I felt.
He was beside me in an instant. “If I’d have known I’d be taking you home I’d have brought a jacket” He said with a smile as he gently rubbed my arms before wrapping his own around me in a warm embrace.
I stood tucked inside his arms, my back pressed close to his chest while we waited for a taxi. “If I’d known you’d be taking me home I’d have stayed in,” I quipped back and he laughed, a deep rumbling sound that had me grinning in spite of myself.

Synopsis:

All that glitters may not be gold.
When an antique gold show comes to Vegas, Tarot-reading magical artifacts hunter Sara Wilde’s job is simple: locate and liberate a set of relics rumored to give their bearers access to an ancient, incredible power. With whispers of a war on magic racing through the Connected community, every psychic, mystic, warlock, and witch descends on Sin City to claim the relics first. But no one wants these talismans more than Sara’s client: the insufferably arrogant, criminally sensual, absolutely untrustworthy Magician.
And what the Magician wants…
Sara’s heist takes a turn for the trickier as the smoky-eyed specter from her past, Detective Brody Rooks, is assigned to investigate a break-in at the gold show, forcing her to confront the one man in Vegas she can’t bluff. Even worse, just as she finally gets her hands on the goods, the game changes anew. The resulting chase leads her across the world to an ancient Egyptian temple filled with secrets, deception… and hints about her own abilities that could change everything. Desperate for answers, Sara is forced to turn to the one person she knows will lie, cheat, manipulate and steal to get whatever he craves. Only now, it seems, the Magician wants her.
Sometimes, when the deck is stacked against you… you’ve got to play the Wilde Card.

Excerpt Wilde Card:

Chapter One

I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t even blink. Six foot two of hard-bodied ex–Special Forces operative was snugged up against my backside, and I was totally falling for him.
For about eight thousand more feet.
My helmet crackled. “You’re doing great.”
“Unghflun.” Worse, we were still spinning. They’d told me the spinning would stop, but it didn’t feel like it was stopping. It felt like we were dying. And of all the ways to die, French-kissing a cliff at a hundred miles per hour had not made my short list. It gave a whole new meaning to the phrase “terminal” velocity.
“Right on target.”
Something shuddered above us, and I shifted from sprawl to nearly vertical in a sudden blur. I squinted up past the man carabinered to me in not nearly enough places, to see that our parachute had deployed.
That would be the “Low Opening” portion of this joyride into the Siberian mountain range surrounding Lake Baikal. The “High Altitude” section had been covered by our plunging six-mile drop from a souped-up jet now well on its way to Beijing.
Getting off this rock without alerting the local military would be its own special kind of crazy, but I was down for that. Pretty much any kind of crazy that got me away from Vegas and the Arcana Council for a few days worked for me.
“Drop point,” echoed in my ear.
Beside us, two other barely discernible shadows rocketed through the predawn gloom. We were aiming for a strip of gravel tucked between two sheer cliffs where, according to my client, X marked the spot for the ultimate Mongolian treasure: the crown of Genghis Khan. Rumored to give its wearer the Khan’s magical mojo for protection, abundance, and crazy long life.
Then again, said crown was apparently resting on the head of a dead guy right now. So there was that.
Another crackle in my helmet. “Bend your knees.”
“If I had a dollar…”
My guide’s laughter carried through our final several hundred feet of descent, and suddenly we were on the ground, a tumble of arms, legs, and high-tech padding. With impressive military precision, mission leader Zander “Call me Zee” James broke up with me without remorse, thrusting me aside. I lurched drunkenly to my knees as he slowed his run then turned to his parachute and punched it into submission.
The other men landed beside us, neatly outrunning their chutes, and I ducked to avoid a fine spray of rocks stirred up by the movement. Zee stripped off his HALO suit, oxygen mask and gear like he was shimmying out of swim trunks, and shoved them into a we-were-never-here-sized nylon bagel for easy transport out. He flapped his hand at me for mine and I shoved them at him in a big ball. “Report?” he snapped.
Zee’s right-hand man squinted down at a device attached to his wrist. “No heat signatures,” he said, aiming the thing at the rock wall. “Wall” was being kind. The cliff face surged up as if an angry god had punched through the earth’s crust, all crags and fissures and sharp edges. “Seismic activity currently stable.”
As if to counter his words, another crackle of falling rocks sounded high above us. “Right.” Zee squinted up. “At dawn, this place’ll light up like the surface of the sun. We don’t want to be here for that. We get in, we get out, we get gone.” His gaze shifted to me. “Ready?”
I nodded, then tugged down the zipper of my tech suit to fetch my own tools of the trade, my trusty pack of Tarot cards.
With the deck as my compass, I could find about anything—for a price. As it happened, a hundred G was a heck of a price. That kind of money translated to at least three more Connecteds hidden away from the dark practitioners who wanted to use them for spare parts. Not enough to save them all, no. But enough to count. I had to believe that.
“Sometime today, princess.”
Double-tasking one set of fingers to offer Zee my opinion of his people management skills, I used the other to pull a scatter of cards out of the deck.
Here we go.

Genre: Erotic Romance

Synopsis

An online connection.
Masked by anonymity.
No cameras. No pictures.
Curiosity turned to intrigue.

I thought I knew what I was getting into, but had no idea how far we would go…

My intention was to test the waters, dip my toe in the wading pool. Instead I surrendered to the world of seduction and submission, and he submerged me—body, mind, and soul—into an ocean of eroticism.

Emails, texts, and hidden identities, were one thing. But now, coming face-to-face with the mystery man, the star of my fantasies, both terrifies and thrills me.  If all goes according to plan, he will intensify the exquisite bond we share by transporting me to that glorious intersection between agony and ecstasy. If not, everything we’ve built will come crashing down around us, dashing my dreams in the process.

Either way, there is no going back. Because I want more. Much more.
Despite the knowledge that for every ounce of pleasure, a price must be paid.

And I am going to pay…

Excerpt

I stared at the ice cubes in my glass, all that was left of my first drink. I was only allowed two, so I relished the sensation as bourbon sank deliciously into my bloodstream, numbing me ever so slightly. I tried to wait patiently for the next cocktail to arrive, but patience had never been my strong suit. An only child, spoiled rotten by my parents who’d all but given up on having children when I came along, I wasn’t accustomed to waiting. But today of all days, I needed that next drink to calm my frayed nerves.
The restaurant at the Omni Hotel wasn’t crowded, about what one expected on a Thursday late afternoon. The elegant décor looked to be the result of a recent remodel, and I wondered who had done it. My mother would want to know the name of the designer. She served as the director of Fort Worth’s Junior Cotillion, as well as on a number of museum boards, and she’d taught me to stay abreast of all things related to the arts, but right now considering the hotel’s new look only helped distract me from an imminent meeting with the most important man in my life.
I was excited yet anxious because this would be my first meeting with my lover.
      Our first meeting face-to-face.
He’d left strict instructions for me to sit at the table he reserved for us. He requested I sit with my back to the entrance. This tricky move on his part allowed no way for me to see him as he entered. If his intention was to control and torture me, it was working. A loose strand of hair tickled my cheek, so I tucked it behind my ear. My hair wasn’t choosing this inopportune moment to misbehave. It always misbehaved.
I watched for the waiter, again wanting that drink, but as much as I hated being outside my comfort zone, I loved the naughty, decadent feeling I got from doing something simply because my Master told me to. When I submitted to his demands, I stepped outside my safe little world, the one where my ex-husband ignored me for years, where all my friends had children, where I felt inconsequential. With him I wasn’t invisible. He relied on me.
Sure it was for things of a sexual nature, but to me, that was something, and I felt fulfilled for the first time in ages.
A few months ago, when I’d been supremely pissed at my cheating husband, I went online. I admit it, I’d been looking for trouble, which was mind-numbingly easy to find. I hadn’t intended to find a darker side of myself with needs that could never have been met by my philandering husband.  I’d never meant to find someone. I’d merely been looking, searching—for what, I wasn’t sure.
What I did find was a whole new world of dominance and submission, self-inflicted pain as well as pleasure, and sexual satisfaction with a stranger. A man who reached out and touched me in corners of my soul I hadn’t known existed. We spoke every day, I performed sex acts upon myself at his command, and sent him reports on the intimate and sometimes humiliating tasks he gave me.
I was his submissive, and he was my Master, and every aspect of our relationship took place over the internet. I addressed him as “Sir”, but in our chats he went by the moniker, “MC.” We communicated only via Skype, email, chats and the occasional phone call. That is, until today.
I always insisted we not use a webcam, even though he implored me to do webcam “sessions.” My privacy was of the utmost importance to me, so I always refused. I’m a kindergarten teacher at one of Fort Worth’s finest preparatory schools! I couldn’t take the risk of being videotaped during our play sessions. So the only notion I have of what my Master looks like is a product of my imagination.
But today he flew to Houston to meet me in person. To have a real “play date.” In the flesh. A chill ran across my flesh, leaving a trail of goosebumps in its wake.
The waiter set my second bourbon in front of me. Always cognizant of my manners, I thanked him with a smile. I had been born into one of the wealthiest families in Texas and I’ve been given every advantage. I attended the right boarding schools, wore the right clothes, and behaved as any proper debutante should. And what had that gotten me?
An unfulfilling marriage to an unfaithful jackass and a lifetime of trying to meet other people’s expectations rather than my own. I sipped my drink then smiled. But not today. Today I was doing what I wanted for a change.
I would finally meet the man who dominated me for the past four months. My stomach roiled with anticipation. What would he look like? Would it matter? Of course whatever he looked like, he wouldn’t be the “Master” I’d daydreamed about.
Things never worked that way. It would be like conjuring an image for the hero in a book, and when a movie is made, the actor never matches the character in your head. Always a disappointment.
I’d tried to prepare myself for that from the beginning. I never pictured MC to be a handsome movie star. Instead, I envisioned him as rather average, with salt-and-pepper hair and kind features. For some reason I pictured him wearing glasses, possibly he had a beard.
In any case, it wasn’t his physical appearance that was captivating. MC awakened a primal response in me. He exposed my mind to a world in which I could be open about my sexual desires. A world where the wanton girl inside me was encouraged to come out and play, rather than squelched and pushed into a back closet where she had always lived. He controlled my sexuality, sensing my deepest, darkest needs. And it didn’t hurt that he made me feel cared for and cherished at a time when I desperately needed that. I wanted to please him.
Draining my second drink, I considered a third. I sighed deeply at the thought of the swats that MC would rain down on me for breaking his two-drink maximum. It made me wriggle in my chair, and the excitement between my legs spread down into my toes. My phone showed it was 5:12, and my tummy tightened. Any minute now… He told me he would be here at 5:15. The wait had been both excruciating and delicious at the same time—a perfect reflection of our relationship, a testimony to both pain and pleasure.
“Close your eyes, my pet.” The familiar voice came from behind my chair. It was a sound I’d come to crave and hearing it sent shivers of anticipation dancing down my spine. Suddenly, I wanted to freeze that moment in time, to stop things while things were still beautiful between us, before reality could mar the fantasy.
A hand circled my nape. His touch was like an electric current, setting my skin aflame. I leaned back against his fingers, shamelessly aching for more, though I knew I should maintain my composure because we were in a public place. But it was all I could do not to moan out loud.
He wrapped my long hair over his wrist and gripped it firmly. “I see you were looking at your phone. Did you think I’d be late?”
“N-n-n-no.”
“Good. I’m going to sit beside you, to your left, but you will keep your eyes closed until I tell you to open them. Do you understand me?”
“Yes.”
“What did you say?” He pulled my hair tight, and I immediately wondered if anyone in the restaurant noticed.
“Yes, Sir.” My heart thumped hard in my chest.
“That’s better.”
He let go of my hair, and I yearned for him to touch me again. I kept my eyes closed, though I knew I must look an odd spectacle.
“Was that your second drink?”
I nodded.
“I expect you to answer me properly.”
I squirmed in my seat. “Yes, Sir.”
“Would you like another one?”
“Yes, but you said I could only have two.”
“Do you plan to be a good girl today?”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Since you followed my directions so well and this is something of a special occasion, you may have another one. What would you like?”
“I’ll have a bourbon and water, please, Sir.”
“That’s a mighty strong drink for a young lady.”
I wasn’t that young, but I appreciated the chivalrous thought. “My grandmother taught me that if you drink bourbon and water it won’t sneak up on you the way sweeter drinks will. That way a lady can always take care of herself.”
“Smart woman, your grandmother.”

I listened as he ordered more drinks, my eyes closed the whole time, feeling ridiculous. Then I gave up and lowered my head, pretending to look at the ground. I’d spent my entire life being worried about what people thought of me. It was exhausting, trying to be perfect all the time.

Part of me was dying to cheat, to open my eyes to see what this dynamic man actually looked like, while the other part was enjoying the game and wished it could go on forever. Because once I saw his face, nothing between us would ever be the same. The fantasy would disappear, replaced by a yet-to-be-known reality, with only a few of the fragments of our mutual projection remaining.

Sexy Snippet

I ran my hand over her ass and up her back. When I found her hair, I took hold and pulled her head back so I could dip my mouth to her neck. Fuck she smells good. I kissed her and as she moaned again, I added my teeth to the kiss, and fuck if she didn’t arch her back and press her front to me harder.

Pulling away, I rasped, “Jesus, woman, I need to get you out of here, otherwise your ass is gonna be planted on that couch and my dick is gonna be buried so far deep in you before you can stop me.”

Her mouth turned up in a grin, but she didn’t say anything.

“What?” I demanded.

“There is no way Scott Cole is going to fuck his woman in front of his club, but I love your enthusiasm. Personally, I think these guys are so involved in their drinking that we could probably have sex on that couch and none of them would even notice.”

I raised my brows. “You wanna see just where Scott Cole would fuck his woman? ‘Cause I’m happy to show you.”

Her grin grew. “I dare you, baby.”

Fuck.

She knows me too fucking well and she’s fucking playing me.

I kept my gaze trained on her while I pulled out my phone and called Griff. When he answered, I said, “You guys right if I head home for the night?”

“Yeah, brother. We’ve got it under control. Church is scheduled for ten in the morning and then we’ve got the re-opening of Trilogy tomorrow night.”

My gaze dropped to Harlow’s lips as she licked them, and my dick begged for that tongue. I raised my finger to her lips and closed her mouth, holding my finger there as I replied, “See you in the morning.”

Shoving my phone in my pocket, I growled, “I want you outside. Now.”

Her grin disappeared and gave way to a sexy curl of her lips. Without another word, she turned and began walking outside. My eyes dropped to her ass. The way it swayed under the tight fit of her short, black dress almost made me come in my pants.

That dress is fucking perfect.

I followed her outside and as we walked past the corner of the building, I snagged her around the waist, lifted her to rest against my body and carried her around the corner. I then deposited her on the ground and pushed her up against the building. My hands went to the hem of her dress and I pulled it up to reveal her panties to me. I slid one hand inside to find her pussy while my other hand moved to take hold of her chin.

My eyes found hers and I demanded, “You good if I fuck my woman now?”

PROMO TOUR ~ Phoenix Rising by Hunter S Jones

PHOENIX RISING

Author: Hunter S. Jones

GENRE: Literary Fiction/Historical Fiction
EDITOR: BZ Hercules
ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE: May 19, 2015

The last hour of Anne Boleyn’s life…

Court intrigue, revenge and all the secrets of the last hour are revealed as one queen falls and another rises to take her place on destiny’s stage.

A young Anne Boleyn arrives at the court of King Henry VIII. She is to be presented at the Shrovetide pageant, le Château Vert. The young and ambitious Anne has no idea that a chance encounter before the pageant will lead to her capturing the heart of the king. What begins as a distraction becomes his obsession and leads to her destruction.

Love, hate, loyalty and betrayal come together in a single dramatic moment… the execution of a queen. The history of England will be changed for ever.

Chattanooga, Tennessee

May 2015

Long ago, when our English ancestress immigrated to the American colonies in the late 17th century, she brought with her a star chart, the stories it revealed, and a golden ring. My grandmother told me this, and her grandmother had explained it to her. This story has remained in our family for generations. The star chart tells the story of the last hour of Anne Boleyn and the rise of Lady Jane Seymour as predicted by an astrologer to the King of England, Henry VIII. The family legend and the chart reveal what happened in the last hour on that English morning of May 19, 1536.

The star chart is a map of the planetary movement for a particular time. It is divided into twelve segments called houses. Each house represents a different area of life and individuals within a person’s life. Every house literally provides a home for the planets stationed there, giving that planet a place to manifest its energy through various individuals. According to the stars and the twelve houses of the star map, zodiac wheel, or astrology chart, as we call them today, this is how the King, the doomed Queen, and various members of their family and court spent the last hour of one Queen’s life and the beginning of the next Queen’s reign. As the falcon badge of Anne Boleyn began its descent, the phoenix emblem of Jane Seymour began to rise.

The star map remains in my possession, as does the golden ring. So it was explained to me and now I can reveal to you that which has been a mystery. The mystery of how that one moment in time came to be.

At thirty-four weeks pregnant, dancing to the oldies was not on the menu. Neither was sitting at Brody’s dining room table crying my heart out. Right after blasting Funkytown, the DJ on WXLY said, “Now here’s a problem.” then played Torn Between Two Lovers. Like I needed to hear that shit.

I’d spent the day contemplating how to tell Brody – my baby’s father – what I was thinking, and where things stood with my fiancé, Jaxon. Yeah, my MC VP and I had a lot of outstanding issues, but it had come time to make a decision. Brody kissing me the night before did nothing to give me clarity. I had been doing a decent job of organizing my discussion strategy when the damned song came on and sent me into a tailspin.

When I was not a blubbering mess, I had spent the afternoon in the kitchen making dinner. By the time Brody came home, I’d pulled myself together – mostly.

He stood before me probably thinking my hormones got the better of me – once again – when he asked, “What’s up Lei? We could’ve gone to dinner. You really didn’t have to cook… but thank you,” he walked over and kissed the top of my head. “How was your day?”

“Uh, fine, I guess.” I smiled half-heartedly, lost in my own head.

“Well, it looks delicious.”

We ate mostly in silence as I screwed up my courage to say what needed saying. “We need to talk, Brody,” I looked down so I wouldn’t have to meet his eyes. The fork he was holding made a loud clank as he dropped it to the plate.

“Yeah, we do,” he sighed. “Listen, I know things are complicated and I’m making them worse. I wish, for your sake, I could tell you that I was drunk last night and that I didn’t mean to kiss you… I guess I had hoped it would be the beginning of us getting back together.”

Just as I opened my mouth to respond my cell started ringing. My BFF Barb. I hit ignore.

Brody raised an eyebrow.

“Barb.” I waved my hand in the air. “I’ll call her back later.” Then placed the phone on the table. “So last night-”

My cell started ringing again. I glanced over, “Huh. Barb again.”

“Answer it. Maybe something’s wrong,”

“Hey Barb, I’m with Brody. Can I call you in a little-”

“Leila, honey, where are you?” she sounded frantic.

“I’m at Brody’s. What’s wrong?” Suddenly, I had an awful feeling in the pit of my stomach.

“I need you to come to the ER now. Can you get Brody to drive you?”

“What the hell’s going on?” My eyes widened as fear tore through my chest and crept up my throat.

“I’ll explain when you get here.” Barb stalled. “I don’t want you freaking out on the way. It’s not good for the baby.”

“No way. What in the hell is going on? I’m not moving until you tell me what’s wrong. What happened?” Full blown panic had set in. Worst case scenarios ran through my head in rapid fire succession.

Brody grabbed the phone out of my hand. “Barb, its Brody. What is going on? Leila is white as a sheet.”

I tried to grab the phone back, but he stood and began pacing the room. Hearing nothing but watching his face turn into a mask of stone, I felt the blood drain from my head.

“Fuck. Okay, we’re on our way,” he hung up, stopped in front of me, crouched down on one knee, but looked down at the hardwood floor. Finally, he lifted his eyes to mine.

“What’s wrong?” The words were half stuck in my throat.

He clasped my hands between his. “I’ll explain on the way. You need to grab your purse and use the bathroom. Just please try and stay calm, okay?”

“Just tell me,” I whispered. I knew someone I loved was dead.

He stood and walked to the doorway. “We’re wasting time. Go to the bathroom, I’ll grab your purse and my phone and I’ll meet you in the garage.”

Typical Brody, he walked away not giving me a whole lot of choice but to do as he directed. When I met him in the garage, he had already started the Viper, and had the garage door opened. Without a word, he helped me in the car and we took off.

“Start talking Brody,” I demanded. “You said you’d explain on the way.”

Staring straight ahead Brody finally spoke. “What I’m about to say is going to be hard to hear, baby. You need to stay calm and think about our daughter, okay?”

“Brody, please.” Tears pricked my eyes.

“Promise me. I need you to stay calm and be the ER nurse right now.” He glanced over as we pulled onto the main road.

“Okay, okay. I promise. Now what’s happened? Is it my brother?” I gripped the side of my seat.

“No. Drew is fine…,” he hesitated. “It’s Jaxon.”

For a moment I couldn’t process what I heard. “What? What happened? Why is he in the ER?”

“I don’t know anything more than there was an incident with the motorcycle gang-”

“Club,” I interrupted, correcting him.

“What?” He looked from the road to me for a split second.

“It’s a motorcycle club. Not a gang. They’re mostly military vets, Brody, not thugs.”

“Okay. Whatever. Something went down and Jaxon was in the middle of it. Drew is on his way to the ER. Barb said he’d meet us there.” Brody eased onto the expressway and let the Henny do what she did best. She rolled.

“Who are you?”

“The new hire.” She swiped the dishrag on top of the worn, brown countertop, and didn’t look like she’d be offering up any more information.

If she knew me in my heyday, that’d never been her response. He raked her form up, down, then up again while he tried to decide if she were old enough to be inside a bar. Her hair was the color of a strong glass of cognac. The sides were short and neat, giving the air of a responsible adult. But the front had an ‘I don’t give a shit’ tousled effect that made him wonder again if she was legal. The style made her oval face more interesting than it really was, but when his gaze flitted over her high cheekbones and past her feline-shaped eyes that were the color of molten pewter, he concluded she was attractive, in a strange sort of way. And he liked the way her pointy chin stuck up in the air with defiance, or maybe it was confidence.

“Are you done eye-fucking me or do you need another minute, old man?” the bartender asked. Her question was matter-of-fact, and didn’t hold a lick of reprimand in it.

I like her. “The name’s Tony and I’ll be taking another minute.”

I open the bathroom door and hold it for Shelby. We are walking past the men’s room at the same time Cory is exiting it. We barely miss bumping into each other and share a laugh over our close call.

“Hey, can I grab you for a sec?” He asks me.

“Sure, Shelby I’ll meet you on the dance floor in a few.” Shelby nods and smirks as she walks away. She knows about my “Cory crush” and how hot I think he is.

“So what’s up Cory?” I ask, wondering what he could want to talk to me about.

“Come here,” he says, wrapping his warm hand around mine. He walks us back toward where we just came from, before continuing down the hall and around a sharp corner. He fluidly turns me to face him and tucks me back into the alcove on the right side of the hallway. The small space is deep enough to offer some privacy as he maneuvers his body close to mine. My breath stutters from the contact and I suddenly feel nervous. I’m not sure what to do with my hands so I place my palms on the cool wall behind me, bracing myself against it. He runs the top of his index finger slowly down my cheek and back up again.

“It seems like such a cliché’ for you to be turning sweet sixteen and you’ve never been kissed. I thought I could help you out with that.” He says with a sly smile on his handsome face. Before I can reply that I have already been kissed, he is softly pressing his mouth to mine. His lips are warm and sure. It feels different than kissing Marcus. Maybe it’s the fact that he’s eight years older than me and he has a lot of experience, whatever the reason, I feel as though I’m kissing a man. The kiss is over almost before it’s begun, yet I can’t help but feel as though my destiny has been irrevocably changed as a result. One small kiss from Cory Marshall and my life would never be the same.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ ~ Snap by Tara Dawn

Snap Facebook cover

SNAP Release Day Blitz

It seems as though the past week has drug along awaiting this day. I can’t wait to share Hazel’s story with all of you. Originally I said that this would be one book. But, it can’t be. This story has grown, the characters have gotten more complex, and had I made it one book, I would’ve had to cut out a lot of the story and not give my characters the ending they deserved. So I’ve split it into a trilogy. Don’t worry, this just means you’ll get more of what you want! You’ll know exactly what that is after you read this book. Thank you for your understanding.

Love, Tara Dawn

“SNAP is an amazing story. Tara has such a way with words. One minute she has you craving a fountain pop like you never have before, then she has you feeling every emotion like you are the character. Every laugh makes you laugh. Every tear will bring one to your eye. Every ounce of pain, you feel, and every second of pleasure will have you squirming. By the end, my heart was pounding and I had tears in my eyes. Great book.”

Phil

“Strip.”

She stands there for a moment staring at the ground, her shaky hands twisting together.

“Do not make me do it for you, Hazel.”

Slowly she unbuttons and unzips her pants. I love that sound. She pushes them down and steps out on unsteady legs. Her hands go the hem of her shirt and grip it so tightly her fingers start turning white. Taking a shuddering breath, she pulls it over her head and drops it to the floor. Her bra and panties are awfully nice for going to work in. She must have worn them for him. Anger scorches my veins at how little she thought of me on our date. She didn’t wear anything like this for me. I admire her body in her pretty underthings wishing I had seen the bruises that formed by my hand. As I get to her stomach, my eyes grow wide and a smile spreads over my face. Tiny pink streaks trail down where my fingers once raked her skin. If I thought my dick wouldn’t work for a while after she nailed it, I was wrong.

“Take those off too. He’s not here to see them.”

Against her wishes, I make her shower. She tries to close the curtain, but I pull it open. Shivering beneath the water, she washes her body and tries to hide as much of herself as she can. The suds on her slick flesh make me ache to pinch each and every one until they pop. An image of blood oozing out of every bubble as it bursts has my heart pounding in anticipation of what’s to come. Unable to wait any longer, I shut the water off and yank her from the tub. She slips out and lands against me, the water on her body soaking into my clothes.

Without a second thought, I pull her into her bedroom and shove her onto the bed. Looking around, I spot some scarves on top of her dresser and grab them. I attempt to grab her wrists, but she fights me and scoots away on the bed. The word no slips from her lips. My vision blurs as I grow more furious. I hate the word no. I despise being told no. Before I know what’s happening, my emotions get the better of me and my fist strikes her face. There’s an audible pop and blood gushes from her nose. It makes me think of the bleeding bubbles.

Her hand covers her face as she chokes on her sobs and the blood. It seeps through her fingers dripping on her chest in slow motion. Each drop exploding as it lands on her skin. My darkness, her life. The perfect mix of truth in my world.

Synopsis

Erika

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Michael

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

Unprotected.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

I turned and stalked off, taking a left down the hallway toward the elevator. The doors opened as soon as I pushed the button, and I stepped inside, trying to calm my racing heart.

They still intimidated me.

And excited me. And challenged me. And knotted me up.

I’d kind of wanted to go to a party but not with them.

The doors started closing, but just then a hand shot into the elevator, and I jumped, seeing the doors re-open. I sucked in a breath, staring wide-eyed as Michael reached in, grabbed my shirt by the collar with one hand, and pulled me out.

“Michael!” I shouted.

I stumbled into him, and before I knew what was happening, he grabbed my wrists and locked them behind my back, walking into me and forcing me backward, back down the hall toward the kitchen.

“Let me go!” I demanded, my lips brushing the tip of his chin.

“I don’t know, guys,” he teased over my head, “she still seems pretty fucking easy to push around. What do you think?”

Laughter greeted me as he forced me back into the living area.

Every muscle in my body was on fire, and the tips of my toes kept getting caught under his sneakers.

I twisted my body, trying to break his hold. “What the hell are you doing?”

I pushed against his chest and jerked my body to the left, tearing out of his hold with every muscle I could muster.

I stumbled, losing my balance, and fell backward, crashing to the floor. Pain shot through my ass, running down my legs as the fall knocked the wind out me.

Shit!

Shooting my hands behind me, I pushed myself up and bent my knees, looking up at him as he advanced.

He stalked over and then stopped, towering over me. I immediately moved my hands and feet, crawling backward, away from him.

But then I felt something at my back, and I halted. I twisted my head, seeing a dark pant leg, and I didn’t know if it was Damon, Will, or Kai, but it didn’t matter. I was closed in.

Oh, no. I slowly raised my eyes, seeing Michael’s lips tilt in a devious smile. I stopped breathing, seeing him lower his body to the floor, planting his knees between my bent legs, and his hands at my sides.

My neck arched back as his face hovered over mine, but I tried to keep myself up as much as possible, no matter how close his body got.

“I thought you were one of us,” his whispered, his breath caressing my lips. “I thought you could play.”

I stilled, staring into his eyes.

You’re one of us now. Will had said that to me on that night so long ago.

Michael’s amber eyes searched mine and then dropped to my mouth, his breathing growing heavy as he stared at me like he was about to take a bite.

I wanted to cry. What the hell was going on?

Three years ago was nearly the happiest night of my life, and it quickly became the worst. And ever since then, Michael not only acted as if I didn’t exist, but also, at times, as if he wished I didn’t.

Now the guys were free, and they were all back together again. What did I have to do with any of this? What did he want with me?

“I don’t know this game,” I told him, barely audible.

He stared into my eyes, thinning his own as if studying me. “All you need to know,” he finally answered, “is that you can’t tap out.”
