EXCERPT REVEAL ~ The Sexy One by Lauren Blakely

EXCERPT

“Your language skills are better than your French-braiding skills,” she teases as she shuts her iPad.

I pretend to be insulted. “So not true. I can do French braids with my eyes closed.”

She shakes her head. “Somehow, I doubt that.”

“I’ll prove it to you.”

She tilts her head, and her hand freezes on her purse. “Prove it?” she asks quietly.

Somehow I’ve thrown a gauntlet I didn’t realize I was tossing. I do the only natural next thing—follow through. “Sure. Got one of those hair tie things?”

She nods slowly. “Yes, but . . .” Her voice trails off. Then she resumes the thought. “You really learned to French braid?”

I nod. “Hayden insisted on it,” I explain then study her face. Her pupils are dilated, and she blinks. Ah hell, I’ve made her wary with my remark. “I don’t have to prove it. I was just teasing,” I say, giving her an out. Mildly flirty comments are one thing—hands in hair are another.

A small grin spreads on her face, as she dips her hand into her purse and produces a black elastic band. “No, I insist. You were horrible last time. Have at it.”

She drops to the floor, scoots over to me, and with her shoulder, she nudges my right knee.

Hello, slippery slope. Funny to see you again so soon.

Her other shoulder bumps my other knee. There’s no need to think—I widen my legs more and let her settle in between them. I’m seated on the couch, she’s on the floor, and she waits for me to braid her hair.

As I stare at her lush, blond locks, the breath escapes my lungs. For a moment, it’s as if I’m hovering in a state of suspended want. Like this is the real line we’re crossing. Not me bringing her dessert, or touching the corner of her lips, or gazing at her face longer than I should. Not even sending texts about a pair of wild birds or making comments about showers and nudity.

But this.

Touching her hair.

Fuck, I love her hair.

I slide the tie over my wrist, then gather up some strands near the top of her head. “Confession,” I say in a quiet voice. “I watched a few YouTube videos after you taught me.”

She leans back, and I can feel her smile. “Like I said, prove it.”

“It’s on.” I focus on the task of separating her honey-blond hair into three sections, running my fingers through them like a comb. I lift the first strand and lay it over the middle one, then the left, gathering more hair into the next section.

After I failed at her first French braid lesson, I took it upon myself to learn. I don’t like not being able to master basic skills. A man should be able to braid his daughter’s hair.

And his woman’s hair.

“How does it look?” Her voice sounds a little breathy.

“Like it was braided by a man who learned by watching YouTube videos,” I answer.

She laughs lightly and leans into me more, inching closer. My hands still for a moment. I feel like I’m in high school again. Like I have a crush on a girl, and I don’t know what to do, where to go next, what to say.

The thing is, I do know. I just don’t know that I should. But I know what I want. There’s no doubt in my mind. I want to touch her, to kiss her, to feel her body press against mine. Even the chance to touch her like this is intoxicating, a rush of blood to the head. Her waves of hair are soft, and they feel spectacular falling through my fingers. I can’t picture a single thing besides running my hands through these strands as I kiss her, as I touch her, as she moves beneath me.

Let me count the ways why falling into forbidden love is not my wisest move…

  1. She works with me every single day.

Did I mention she’s gorgeous, sweet, kind and smart?

  1. She works in my home.

Playing with my five-year-old daughter. Teaching my little girl. Cooking for my princess. Which means…

  1. She’s the nanny.

And that makes her completely off-limits…But it doesn’t stop me from wanting her. All of her.

The other nannies in this city don’t call him the Sexy One for nothing. My boss, the amazingly wonderful single father to the girl I take care of every day is ridiculously hot, like movie star levels with those arms, and those eyes, and that body. Not to mention, the way he dotes on his little girl melts me all over. But what really makes my knees weak are the times when his gaze lingers on me. In secret. When no one else is around.

I can’t risk my job for a chance at something more…can I? But I don’t know how to resist him much longer either…

**The audiobook will release the same day as the eBook on October 17th and will be narrated by

Sebastian York and Andi Arndt!**

RELEASE DAY BLITZ ~ Roommate by Jenika Snow

Brendan

I’ve done pretty damn well in hiding my feelings for her over the years, but having Meghan under the same roof as me, and only feet from my bed makes it hard to control myself.

The truth is when it comes to Meghan I don’t want to practice self-control. I love her.

Meghan

I’ve known him nearly my whole life. He’s arrogant, gets under my skin, but is gorgeous and caring, too. And as much as I want to say it doesn’t affect me, that Brendan doesn’t affect me I’d be lying.

The truth is I love him, and I don’t know if that’ll end up destroying me.

Brendan

She needed a place to stay, and now she’s got a roommate … me. But I’m about to show her that I want more than a friendly arrangement.

I’ve never been good at sharing, and when it comes to her, she’s mine.

Warning: You like short, hot, straight to the point stories?
Do you want drama-free sexiness that leaves nothing to the imagination?
Do you want a story that is pretty unbelievable, but gives you the warm fuzzies at the same time?
Well then, leave your panties at the door because that’s what’s going down in this quickie
.

She was hurting right now. The thought of not being the one to be there for her, and to pick her up when she was down, made me feel like shit.

I wanted to be the one for her always.

Is that your excuse for checking up on her, for driving to her school to make sure she was okay, that she seemed happy? Is that your excuse for pretty much fucking stalking her?

I wasn’t stalking her, or at least I told myself that. I was making sure she was okay. But fuck, admitting that to her felt so dirty, like I was this damn creep.

I just love her.

Said every fucking weirdo on the planet that watched the girl they loved.

God, I could have laughed at my own inner ramblings.

“Thank you again.”

I shook my head. “You know I’d do anything for you.”

This look of gratitude crossed Meghan’s face, and I knew tonight would most definitely be a drunk kind of one.

“I have a bottle of whiskey with our names on it.”

I cared about her like no other—whether she’d ever known that or would ever know it. Keeping my distance, not telling her how I felt, and pretending like she didn’t mean more than she really did, had been the worst mistake of my life.

But she was here now, and I was going to use this opportunity to show her I’d grown the hell up and could make her happy.

But only with me. I only wanted her to be happy with me. Selfish or not, that was the reality.

That means telling her you scared off that asshole that had been hitting on her six months ago at school. That means you’ll have to come clean about why you were there and why you gave a shit if she dated someone.

I was going to make her mine, no matter what.

Synopsis

Time is running out for Velli’s former mentor, Dr. John Adams. Life caught in the middle of two Spirits is slowly driving both the man and the Lion crazy. Velli is determined to help him out of his bind.

Her plans to take care of the issue and return home quickly are ruined in short order. There’s a war brewing between the Lion and her old friend Derek over the love of Kai. One that has to be resolved just as fast as John needs saved.

Worse, the Raven has his sights set on Velli in hopes of her assistance. She doesn’t know what an ancient Spirit wants from her, but her mistrust of the bird means she wants to avoid him. Circumstance throws her right in his path, and she is intrigued by the mystery she finds.

Velli has to face too many battles that aren’t hers—until an attack on her children. As her world crumbles around her, she and Kane fight to save all the lives hanging in the balance.

Excerpt

The moment she emerged outside she heard Kimi and Kane’s laughter. She crossed the balcony to the railing. The sight below her made her smile grow even more. Down in the pool Kimi played, splashing Kane where he sat in a chair. Right next to him in a covered pumpkin seat was Aidan.

It didn’t surprise her that Kane wasn’t swimming—the man hated water. Actually, he was terrified of it. Whether the fear came from the man or the Wolf, she didn’t know, but she found it ironic that he’d ended up mated with a woman strong in water magic.

Of course, he also had a daughter strong in it as well, as she kept proving with directed splashes right at her father. Velli almost called out to them, but right before the words left her mouth she noticed the Raven perched in a tree across the yard.

Rather than call attention to herself, even if she suspected Kane knew she was near, Velli backed away from the railing. She took a seat by the table and waited. Last thing she’d do was let the Raven have the upper hand by asking him to join her. She’d never been the best with patience, but she’d gotten better the past few years.

In time her patience was rewarded when the large black bird launched into the air. It swooped up until it almost disappeared into the clouds. Instead, it simply disappeared. She wasn’t fooled for one second, so he didn’t get the pleasure of her startling at his arrival perched on the chair beside her.

This time when the Raven spoke it didn’t encompass every molecule. The voice he used was quiet, personal, directed for her ears only. “I knew you would come.”

“Of course you did.” Unwilling to give him too much leeway or any hint of an upper hand, she plowed forward. “I came for John. Not you.”

“I know. The doctor-man is a good human.”

“Yes he is.” A conversation with the air was uncomfortable, but she didn’t know if she dared to face the Raven. She’d always fought against weakness, so she turned to face the bird. “Therefore if you harmed him intentionally for the purpose of drawing me here, I will not make your eternity easy.”

“I have done much in my time. Not all good, but not all bad. Harming the doctor-man is not something I have done. My magic was sound.” The Raven lifted his head. His wings fluttered and his beak clicked in a clear display of indignance. “There are humans that deserve such treatment. He is not one.”

“Am I?” The question was made in half-jest. A test to see where the bird lay on the judgmental scale. Once the question hung in the air she realized some sick part of her was truly curious what he thought. She kept her features still to fight against the wince. Sometimes her old wounds exerted themselves at the most random of times.

His head twisted as only a bird’s could until one cold black beady eye stared her down. “Curious that you would think so.”

“I didn’t think so. I don’t. I was just wondering if you would.”

“Hmmm.” His head twisted the other way. Once again his beak clicked several times before he shook out his feathers. In the midst of the sea of black, Velli could have sworn she caught a glimpse of gray but the Raven turned when he caught her staring. “You need me. I need you.”

“I am not making any sort of bargain with you, Raven.” She met the bird’s gaze levelly. In their whole conversation, this felt the most crucial to stick to her guns. “You say John is a good man. If you mean that you help him without recourse.”

“I will help the doctor-man.” He hopped from the back of the chair to the seat and inched closer. “You are not the least bit curious as to why an ancient creature such as myself would say they need you?”

“If I were, you’d never know.” Truthfully she was flat out dying of curiosity. None of it made much sense to her. The last thing she’d dare to do is tip her hat this early in the game. First she needed to make sure he helped John.

“Will you come speak to me again?”

“As I need to for my work.”

“No. Creature to creature. Once a day. No tricks. If there are tricks, you have permission to pluck my tail feathers.”

“It’s no fun with permission.”

If birds could grin, the raven was. His eyes gleamed with amusement and a low chuckle carried between them. “I promise to fight and peck.”

So the damn thing had a sense of humor, a wicked one at that. Speaking to him more often could be dangerous. She ran the risk of liking him. “We’ll see. Will you tell me what you’ve done now?”

“I can show you.” He spread his wing out toward her. “It will not harm you, but I will give you a taste of the magic used. This will show you what was done to him.”

“Nice try. What if the magic was unintentionally faulty? You could harm me.”

“I hadn’t considered that. I am certain my magic is sound.” He turned his head to stare at the clouds. “Return here tomorrow at the same time. I will have another way to show you.”

“Agreed.”

The Raven tipped his head toward her before he took off into the sky. Before he’d cleared the roof he completely disappeared.

“Damn bird.”

“I heard that.”

EXCERPT REVEAL ~ The Reason For Me by Prescott Lane

Coming October 19th

AP new - synopsis.jpg
Holt

She likes it quick and dirty.

I like orders and rules.

She hates small talk.

I hate to share.

She’s an open book.

I’m a closed dresser drawer.

She rides a Harley.

And that drives me f’ing nuts.

Annalyse and I have both lived in our own personal hells for half a decade.  She’s learned to love the warmth, and I’m still consumed.  But my new neighbor is stoking more than my libido these days.  We agreed on only pleasure.  But she changed the rules.

And now I’m not even sure what they are.

Maybe there’s a reason she found me that night, maybe there’s a reason I can’t stop thinking about her, maybe there’s a reason for the pain.  Maybe not.

We all look for reasons in life.  Reasons for death, love, pain.  Why one thing happens and not another?  It’s human nature.  We’ve been looking for the meaning of life since the beginning of time.  But maybe the reason for all of it — life, love, loss, heartache — is the curvy brunette living next door.

Annalyse

There’s just something about being wrapped up in the right man’s arms that makes your heart believe anything is possible.

But the heart is a liar — a cruel, vicious liar.

It’s making me feel things that my head knows I shouldn’t.  Holt told me he can’t love me.  It was the first thing he said to me, so why is my heart telling me to believe the opposite?

Abruptly, I sit up and wipe water on my face before covering my chest with my hands.  He simply leans up and gently rubs my back.  “Cold?” he asks.

I nod and get to my feet, his hand running down my butt cheek as I step out of the tub and reach for a towel.  Holt darts up and stops me, his fingers circling my hips.

“You have bruises,” he says, causing me to look down.  He’s right.  A couple tiny bruises grace my hips.  He lightly grabs my hips, his fingers lining up with the marks on my flesh.

“Doesn’t hurt,” I say, reaching out to him, but he steps back.

“You’re hurt because of me.”
I can’t explain it, but I can see darkness cascade over him, like a storm you see coming over the horizon.  His eyes get darker; his body seems heavier.  The weight this man carries — whatever it is — is so huge, even the air in the room seems to change.  I should be scared, but I’m not.  I can see it in his eyes — the pain, the regret, the guilt.

“I just want to protect you,” he says, his voice low.

“Holt, I would tell you if you were too rough,” I say, stepping closer to him and stroking the stubble on his face.

His eyes spark, and he falls to his knees, kissing each bruise softly.  “Think I need to show you how good gentle can feel,” he says, standing and picking me up.  He carries me to the bed and lays me down, kissing my hair and whispering, “I want every inch of your body to remember me.  Remember the pleasure I give you.” A little moan escapes, and he chuckles low in his throat.  “I’m going to make you wait this time.”

“No,” I pout.

He raises his head and stares down at me.  “You like it quick and dirty, don’t you?” he asks.  Before Holt, I waited five years to have sex again, so my body must think it’s going to be sex deprived again, because he’s right.  “Say it.  Tell me what you like.”

“Quick,” I beg.  “I need to come — now!”

“Demanding,” he smirks at me, pinning my arms overhead.  “I’m the one who gives the orders, remember?”

I actually show my teeth.  It’s like I’m a wild animal in heat.  You know, the kind you see on Discovery Channel when sex looks more like a fight?  He just leans down and kisses the tip of my nose.  I wiggle my hips, grinding into the length of him, hoping I can catch just the right angle to push him inside.  His tip lingers at my entrance — Yes!  But just as I start to push into him, he lifts his hips up.

“Bad girl.”  Then he lifts his eyes to mine and says, “I told you, no quick and dirty this time.  This is a sweet fuck.”

Sweet fuck?  Those words do not go together, but something about them makes my body relax.  And Holt feels it too, releasing my wrists, his tongue finding mine and slowly exploring my mouth.  This is the way he kissed me that first night on his patio — softly and sweetly.  He’s winning me over already.  There’s definitely something to be said for a patient man.

“Christ, you are so beautiful,” he whispers between kisses.

“Holt,” I say, my voice cracking.  It’s much easier to have him talk dirty to me than to hear him say sweet things.  Dirty talk equals fucking, not making love.  At least, it’s easier to fool myself into believing that.  I guess dirty talk happens when you love someone, too.  But sweet talk doesn’t happen when it’s just sex.  It means something more.

His head lowers to my breast, his tongue circling my nipple, and then I feel it a whole lot lower, my legs clenching together.  His hand goes to my other breast, lightly pulling up the nipple while he sucks, licks, and circles the other with his warm mouth.  A tightness builds in my thighs, and a wave of heat flashes over my body.  I don’t know how, but I know I’m close.  Another wave comes over me, and I say a few dirty words in my head.

He keeps his eyes locked on mine as he slides down my body.  Clearly, he hasn’t given up on taking his time.  He kisses my folds gently, like he’s kissing my face, and my legs push together, but he brings my thighs to his shoulders and lightly runs his tongue across me.  “Don’t hold back,” he says.  “You know I love it when you talk dirty.”  His eyes close, and he moans, sending this incredible vibration through me.  He’s being so gentle, so slow.  It’s making me lose my mind.

“Fuck me with your tongue!”  My eyes flash open.  The whispered dirty words in my head have flown out of my mouth.  His eyes catch mine, and he does exactly what I asked, slipping his tongue inside me.  Oh, I like this game.  Ask and I shall receive.

She’s the daughter of a club traitor, trying to start over.

Daughter of the man that betrayed the Grim Bastards, Gidget Etheridge doesn’t want anything to do with the club.
She grew up being ignored by her father, but found solace in the arms of the boy she loved.
Everything changed the day he turned his back on her.
When she and her son are rescued by Smoke, she has to decide if the boy who broke her heart is worth a second chance.

He’s a bastard, living life by his own rules.

Vice President Smoke Roundtree grew up knowing he would be a Grim Bastard, just like his father and grandfather.
When he became a prospect, he made a choice between the club and the girl he loved.
Even all these years later, he still wonders if he made the right decision.
When he saves Gidget and her son, he finally has a chance to fix the mistakes of his past.

Can a bastard heal the heart he shattered thirteen years ago?

We are just stepping into the yard when my phone rings. I pick up my phone and see Smoke’s name on the screen. My anger at Round’s confession comes back full force as I put it to my ear.

“Hello,” I say, unable to hide my fury.

“What the hell is going on, Gidget? What’s the matter? Are you and Parker okay?” he asks, his voice hard.

He throws the questions at me so quick, it almost makes my head spin. “Nothing’s wrong. Why do you ask?”

“Don’t fucking lie to me, Gidget. Hack just called and said Dad was walking you and Parker out of the clubhouse.”

My anger retreats when I realize he was worried about us. Richard never worried about us, never even asked how our day went. Smoke, on the other hand, is checking in from the road. As irritating as it is, it’s always sweet as hell.

Pulling in a deep breath, I explain what we’re doing. He asks a million questions, making sure Parker and I have everything we need. Each thing he says has my heart warming toward him. I have to remind myself that he’s the one who broke it all those years ago. Still, watching my son play with Round, I realize he did me a favor. Maybe I’ll do him a favor and forgive him when he gets back, but not before we have a long talk.

“Fine, don’t stay out there too long. I’ll give you ten minutes to get your ass back in bed. If not, I’ll be calling my dad to make sure you get there,” he’s warns, ending our conversation without even a goodbye.

Before I even put it away, it’s ringing again. I see Smoke’s name again and bring it back to my ear. “Hello.”

“Tell Dad there’re some balls around back in the shed. He can pull them out for Parker.” With that, he hangs up, not bothering to say goodbye again.

For some reason, my lips are tipping up as I slide my phone into my pocket.

In some ways he is eager for the return of his original, sweet, loving Lisa, but he also adores his new and improved, sexy, opinionated, wild tiger. They are settling into their smooth sailing, happily reacquainted life when Lance’s flyboys are called to Afghanistan.

crosswind-cov

“I’m telling you this was definitely a rollercoaster of emotions. A great conclusion to The Flyboy Trilogy.”

excerpt

Step by firm step he approaches me, backing me against the wall. “Lisa, I can only be so strong.” He captures my wrists, holding them firmly above my head. Staring vehemently into my eyes, he continues, “I’m not a saint. I love my brother, but when it comes to you I lose my mind and my honor.” His eyes lower to my heaving chest. After dropping his head back to look at the ceiling, he returns his gaze and continues, “I’m begging you to stop whatever this teasing torment is, because if you keep this up we’re both going to wake with regrets.”

His forearms rest against the wall. Fanning his warm, labored breathing across my face, his hips press firmly against me. The heat of his rock solid erection between my thighs excites and lubricates every blessed inch of me. His head drops to my shoulder. Against my ear, he whispers, “You’re my kryptonite.”

“My hearts pounding,” I reply.

“Sweetheart, mine’s been pounding ever since I first laid eyes on you.”

I whisper, “You really want me…and think about me?”

With his forehead pressed to mine, he replies, “If you’re asking me how many times you’ve entered my thoughts I would have to say once, because, quite honestly, you never really left my mind from our very first encounter.”

“How much of what you say is bullshit and how much is sincere?”

He tosses his head back and laughs, before placing his lips directly in front of mine. “When it comes to you, Lisa, it’s all factual.”

“You’re maddening.”

His crystal blue eyes turn dark. “Well, that’s the pot calling the kettle black.”

His breath brushes warmly against my lips. “Are you going to kiss me?” I ask.

“I want to.”

“Then do it. I miss being kissed.”

We’ve loved.

We’ve lost.

We’ve hated.

Our Empire is crumbling right before my eyes. No one can be trusted for reasons that are consuming me, controlling me and ripping me away from my family.

This new family who has taken over the streets of New York has taken someone away from us. We will not let them take anymore. The only way to stop them is to sacrifice one of us.

But who? They want to end me and my cousin, Calla.

I will never allow that to happen.

This is our EMPIRE. Our LIFE.

What it boils down to is… her life or mine.

The answer is MINE!

I’m perceived as weak, all because I’m a woman.

A woman on a mission now that they’ve stolen someone I love.

They have threatened my family, my child, my love.

I may be a woman but, I’m the daughter of a notorious killer.

They want to end me and my cousin, Roan.

I will never allow that to happen.

This is our EMPIRE. Our LIFE.

What it boils down to is… his life or mine.

The answer is MINE!

I’m loved.

I’m lost.

I hate.

“These people are ruthless, Calla. Are you sure you can handle it?” I told her as well as Alina and Anna the same thing I’m telling Roan. I’m extremely aware of how dangerous this situation is. I may not have had the displeasure of personally dealing with these wretched leaders who don’t play fair in our world; on the contrary, I will not tolerate any of them treating me any different because I have tits and a vagina. If it weren’t for women, they would be fucking each other over more than they do now. Welcome to the first episode of badassery and women power, you self-righteous dicks.

I’m a firm believer in women’s rights. I don’t care what men’s opinions are of us or what a woman is trying to accomplish. We are all equal. The only difference we have is, women use their brain the way we should, while most men use what hangs between their legs to do their bidding for them. And I can guarantee, these overbearing suckers have dicks that should be playing a role in Ripley’s Believe it or Not. Small dicks, small brains, and all that jazz.

I’ve been fighting round after round with Cain for weeks over this. The need to protect me I get. We have a daughter, is his argument. “Why do you feel the need to take on this role? You don’t have to, you know? One of us can.” It’s not that Cain wants this position. No. That’s not it at all. The man is scared of losing his wife. Of the things I will see, the things I may have to do. How I’ll react to being threatened. Will the same thing or worse happen to me like it did before? It’s not one bit funny, but the only way to shut that man up is to flash my tits and vagina in his face. Then fuck him until his cock—which isn’t small by any means—takes over his worried brain. Like I said, men. I love my man, though. These pissy, arrogant cock-suckers who will be calling a meeting at any time are the worthless pieces of shit. Except the Solokovs, who think in this century and treat everyone equally like we do, not like these fools who I’ve studied until my eyes were bleeding and could no longer make out their faces through my blurred vision. Most of them I haven’t met yet, and they already make me sick and make me want to hurl all over their expensive Armani suits. They could all learn a thing or two from a woman.

“Get to the point, Calla. You said we don’t have time to fuck around. Let me hear your theory.”

“You need to loosen up, Roan. You sound like Hitler, for god’s sake.” I salute him.

The tiny crack of a smile he had moments ago falls; in its place is the face of a man who’s suffered loss and hardship. This look on him is what I hate. I’ve been busting my ass to help him out here. Searching through tiny holes for any goddamn thing I could find.

What Cain and Roan don’t understand is the craving I have to protect them too. It’s my right. I may not have lived my entire life growing up in this environment of murder, drugs, stealing, and the latest, underground illegal fighting, but I’m no fool. I can play with fire, but I’m not allowing myself to get burned.

“I’m not afraid of those men, you know. I’m not afraid of you either. In fact, I just may be your biggest weapon. Remember that, Roan,” I seethe. Between him and Cain trying to scare the crap out of me, I’m ready to prove myself to them more than anyone else.

The sharp tongue, piss, and vinegar are all in my blood. Just like Roan, I will kill for my blood. I also know Roan. That man protects with his life, as do the rest of these men. He’s going to have someone on me at all times. Maybe even several men. What he fails to realize is, my dad will never allow anything to happen to me. He’s already volunteered to go where I go. People are scared to death of the unstoppable John Greer, and they should be. He’s killed and made more people disappear than I want to know about, but he’s my father, my protector, and even though I trust our friends and family, I trust him more. His eyes are everywhere, trained on point. I don’t want anything to happen to my dad. I do know he will refuse to let anyone take care of what’s his, especially after the hell I went through with Roan’s older brother, Royal; a man I didn’t know before he kidnapped me. Besides, both of them know my dad has trained me to shoot. I hope I remember how. I’m not invincible, none of us are. But I sure as hell will not lie down and let anyone trample all over me. Especially men who don’t respect me.

I’m sick and tired of this shit. Here we think everything is fine. Those people will stick with the rules. You stay in your territory, and I’ll stay in mine. Hell no, someone crossed over. Someone shot our loved one in cold blood.

Genre: Romantic Suspense

“WOW!!! This was an incredible ride!!!!”#ReaderReview

“One cannot go wrong with an L.P. Dover book.” #ReaderReview

“The suspense of this book blew my mind. Deff another five star read written by lp Dover. ❤️”#ReaderReview

Wild, reckless, and fast.

That’s how I raced until a fatal accident on the track ruined my riding career. I had no choice but to leave that life behind; at least, until now. My name is Logan Chandler, one of the best FBI agents in the country. When an old friend calls for help and winds up dead, I take matters into my own hands. In order to do that, I have to go back to my past, back to the racetrack and to the one girl I never thought I’d see again . . . Kassidy Bennett.

She’s the key to solving it all, but bringing her in could put her in grave danger. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize she was already there. To save her, I have to put everything on the line. It’s a race against time, a race to the death, and only one will make it to the end.

“Kassidy, I know you’re in there. Please open the door.” There was a sheer curtain over the glass panes and if I moved across the room he’d see me. All I could hear was the thumping of my heart. “Kassidy, please. I need to talk to you. I’m not leaving until I do. You know I won’t.”

“Shit,” I hissed low. He was right. If anyone had the patience to sit around for hours, it was him. He’d done the same thing to me years ago when I told him I wouldn’t go on a date with him. He stayed on my porch for hours and slept on the swing. At the time, I loved his persistence. I wanted to go on a date with him, but I was curious to see how far he’d go.

Knowing he wouldn’t leave unless I made him, I thrust the door open, embracing the anger I felt welling in my chest. I needed it to get rid of him. Logan stepped back and I held my breath, taking in the desperate look in his eyes. For a second, I could feel my resolve slip, but then I remembered the hurtful words he said to me in the hospital.
“There’s nothing to say, Logan. If you want to say you’re sorry, then say the words and get the hell out of here. Other than that, I have no desire to see or talk to you.”

He looked straight into my eyes. “Saying I’m sorry doesn’t even begin to cover it, but I am. I am so fucking sorry for what I did.”

“Great, you said it. We’re done here. Goodbye Logan.” I slammed the door on him and locked it.

“Dammit, Kassie.”

“Don’t call me that!” I shouted, slamming my hand against the door.

He moved closer to the door and I stepped back. “I know you’re pissed at me, but I need you to hear me out. I’ll stay out here the whole night if I have to.”

“Not if I call the police.”

“They’re not gonna be able to do anything to me. At least, not before I get in there myself.” The doorknob wiggled and I gasped.

“What are you doing? You can’t come in here,” I growled.

“Yes, I can, and I will. If it’s the only way to make you listen I don’t care what I have to do.” He fumbled with the doorknob again and I choked, stumbling back into one of my bar stools. I had no doubt he could get in my house, but I wasn’t going to be in it when he did. Grabbing my phone, I jammed it into my back pocket and raced to my bedroom, locking the door behind me. I had to get out of there fast.

I changed into a pair of jeans and fetched my black leather jacket out of my closet so I could put it on. My motorcycle and helmet were in my garage but all I had to do was climb out my window to get to them. “Kassie!” Logan called out. The front door slammed shut and I sucked in a breath; it was time.

Opening my window, I carefully slipped out. Logan knocked on my bedroom door and tried my handle. “Kassidy, please come out. I don’t want to do this.”

As soon as I was out the window, I raced to my garage. Slamming my helmet on my head, I jumped on my bike and turned the key. The engine roared to life as I revved it and I sped out of the garage as fast as I could. Logan had no idea I could ride, but I wished I could see the look on his face when he saw me. All I knew was that I had to get away from him, and fast.

Once out of the driveway, I took a left turn, clearly realizing the lapse in judgment. It was the road I’d avoided ever since Levi died on it. “Dammit,” I cried. My eyes started to water and there was no way I could wipe the tears away with my helmet on and going down the road. The sound of Logan’s bike drew close behind and I panicked. What was I going to do?

He gained up to me, clearly not stopping unless I did. More tears fell down my cheeks; especially when I arrived at the spot where Levi was ran off the road. I pulled over and shut off my bike, ripping off my jacket so I could breathe. Logan parked beside me, but I jumped off my bike and walked away from him to the dented guardrail. I took off my helmet and stared at the rubber markings on the metal. My fingers traced the tire marks and I broke down, falling to my knees. My heart felt as if it’d been ripped out my chest.

Logan’s hands closed over my shoulders, but I smacked them away. “Don’t touch me.”

His touch left my body, but I could feel his warmth as he sat beside. “I didn’t know you could ride.”

“Levi and Sean taught me after you left. It helped get my mind off of things.” I tried not to look down in the ravine where Levi was found, but I couldn’t help it. The amount of pain he must’ve felt had to be excruciating. I slammed my hand against the guardrail and sobbed.

“I’m gonna miss him too, Kassidy. Levi was a good friend.”

Angrily, I wiped my tears away and scoffed. “How would you know? You left eight years ago and never looked back.”

Chapter One

The sky had darkened by the time I reached the lane.

The ground was hard underfoot, the air was still, and the road was lonely. I walked fast along the broken asphalt, my boots slipping on the occasional patch of black ice, increasing my pace until warmth seeped through my bones. Then I slowed my footsteps to enjoy the freedom and nature, which I now found myself in.

It had been a long two months locked within the walls of Thornfield. The old manor was falling down around itself, and though it was a fine place, it was dreary in the midst of winter’s chill. The grand house had been turned into a hotel some fifty years before, but it scarcely saw any guests in summer, let alone in the icy months of the year.

I was wanting for adventure, for conversation and action, my situation calling for a change of scenery lest my anguish devour my soul. That was how I found myself on my way to the village, an escapee of the confines of Thornfield, no matter how terrible the weather outside was.

The lane inclined uphill to the village. Having reached halfway, I leaned against an old bluestone fence that bordered an ancient farmer’s field to catch my breath.

The moor stretched out around me, the copse of trees I took shelter in making every sound feel closer than it actually was. Fog had begun to descend, and below, the battlements of Thornfield sliced through the mist marking just how far I’d come.

On the hilltop above my perch, the moon was rising, pale and low in the sky, and beyond that, the lights of the tiny village appeared hazy through the weather. I had about a twenty-minute walk until I reached the limits of civilization and the pub, which was my ultimate destination.

The longer I sat and listened, the more I could piece together the sounds of life ahead. The rumbling of a lorry on the motorway beyond, the bark of a dog, the slam of a door…all carried farther afield by the dense air.

Then, as if out of nowhere, a harsh noise broke through the beautiful stillness. The roar of an engine farther down the lane whipped me out of my state of calmness, and I leaned back against the fence lest I be flattened by the approaching vehicle.

The windings of the narrow road hid it from view for quite some time even though the noise increased the farther it came along, and I stilled to allow it to flash past.

It was so dark and unsettling, and my mind mulled over the ghost stories Alice had been regaling me with while at the lonely hotel bar the last few nights. She’d taken great delight in telling me about the black hound, which prowled the lonely roads and would catch unwary travelers by surprise. Much like the approaching vehicle. But it was silly of me to be afraid since Jane Doe was afraid of nothing, especially not a walk through the moor in the dark!

A light flashed around the corner, and I was illuminated and blinded all at once, then there was a cry. It was a big chrome and black motorcycle approaching and as the rider saw me and swerved, the rear wheel hit a patch of ice and slid.

The whole thing veered to the side of the road, barely scraping past me. The wheel spun in the gravel, turning the entire motorcycle on its end, and the rider lost the last ounce of control they had over the beast. The machine fell, landing heavily on the road, the clang echoing across the lonely moor.

I pressed back against the bluestone fence, my heart pounding wildly, and for a moment, I was fixed in place, shock setting in. I’d almost been squashed!

The rider scrambled away from the motorcycle and pulled off their helmet with an audible curse. The word was spoken with so much vitriol that I recoiled lest it be turned on me.

I now saw the rider was a man, his broad shoulders encased in black leather, his dark hair askew, and his jaw covered in the shadow of a beard that had grown in his neglect to clean shave. He was as wild as the look in his eyes, and when he turned to me, so came his anger.

I was rooted to the spot, partly due to the black motorcycle that had almost run me down and partly to the vehemence, which was now fixed upon me. My usual no-nonsense attitude had been dulled in the aftermath of such excitement, and I was rendered mute.

The man pushed himself to his feet, moving unsteadily on his left foot, the same foot that had been underneath the motorcycle.

“Dammit!” he exclaimed, hopping unsteadily. He leaned over and poked at his ankle, but the leather of his boot hindered him.

Finally, as the shock wore off and my heartbeat returned to normal, I found my voice and stepped forward to offer my assistance. “Are you injured, sir?”

He shooed me away, not even taking care to look at me, deciding insults were due punishment. “Are you a roadside bandit lying in wait to rob unsuspecting travelers? Or are you a modern-day gunslinger with a penchant for feminism?”

“Pardon?” I asked, my eyebrows rising in surprise, not expecting the words that gushed from his mouth. “I am no such thing.”

“Then you are a spirit sent to slit my throat,” he said with a snarl, limping over to his motorcycle.

“I am no such thing!” I exclaimed again. “I’m only walking to the village, which any person, living or dead, is free to do so.”

“The spirit has spirit,” the man drawled, brushing mud from his jacket. “From whence do you come?”

I pointed down the road toward the hotel. “Thornfield.”

“Thornfield? And pray, spirit, what do you do there?” He spread his arms wide, mocking my tone of voice.

“Many things,” I stated, my ire rising to match his. “None of which are your concern.”

“Do you work there?”

I nodded.

“Who owns it? Thornfield?”

“Mr. Rochester,” I replied.

“Do you know him?”

“No, I have never met him,” I said, curious at to the reason behind his questioning.

“You’ve never seen a picture, then? Googled to see who he is, perhaps?”

I shook my head. “I have no need.”

“No need?” The man seemed surprised. “Is he not in residence?”

“No, sir.”

He regarded me for a long moment, finally seeing that which was before him. His eyes were full of a quiet storm as he took in my attire and state of wildness. Whatever he thought, he kept it to himself, gesturing for me to step forward, instead.

“Help me right my bike,” he commanded. “It is the least you could do since my ankle is twisted, spirit.”

I nodded and pushed off the fence. As I approached, I took his appearance in as he had mine, finding him rugged and wild. He was not much taller than I, his shoulders wide and his attire plain but well suited for a motorcycle ride in the dark. Enclosed helmet, thick black jeans, black leather jacket and gloves, and big, black boots on his feet. He seemed past his youth, though he wasn’t old at all. Perhaps thirty to thirty-five though I was never a good judge of anyone’s age.

The man grasped the handlebars, his gloved hands curling around the grips, and I took the rear, pushing as he applied weight on the front. We righted the beast with little effort between us, and he threw his leg over with a grimace. Fetching his helmet, I held it out, my gaze lowering to his ankle.

“Do not bother yourself,” he said briskly, snatching the helmet from my hands. “What are you doing out in the dark?”

“I’m going to the village,” I replied, glancing down the road.

“You came from Thornfield?” he inquired again like he had already forgotten, and I nodded. “It is a hotel, yes? Do they not have a well-equipped bar?”

“It’s very well equipped,” I said, returning my hands to my jacket pockets. “I merely wished a change of scenery.”

His stormy eyes narrowed as he pondered my words like they were a riddle, and he grunted. “Then be quick about you,” he said. “It’s cold and dark out here. This lonely road is no place for a woman to walk alone.”

I would have scolded him for thinking me a weak-willed woman—I could fight as well as any—but he put on his helmet and kick started the motorcycle to life, the roar of the engine drowning out even my own thoughts. Then in a whirlwind, he took off down the lane toward Thornfield, his destination most likely the motorway and then to London beyond. No one ever stopped at Thornfield.

Turning back toward the village, I hurried off, my mind swirling over the events that had just passed.

It was an incident of no consequence, no romance or interest at all, but it was a moment. In a life that had become monotonous and empty in its unchanged routine, it was a mark of something, at least. A new face had been installed in my mental gallery, and it stood out because it was stern, masculine, and dark. All other faces had blurred in its wake.

I’d left Thornfield for a breath of fresh air and a dose of excitement, and I’d gotten it…no matter how small.

BLOG TOUR ~ Fire In The Blood (The Red Series #2) by Lily Freeman

Title : Fire In The Blood

Author : Lily Freeman

Genre: Contemporary Erotic, BDSM novel.

Eight weeks ago, Polly Jayne Lester vanished.

With no explanation, no goodbyes; she walked away from one life, to start another.
Now based in London, she has a home: new friends, a new dog and – a Master. Luke Monroe is everything she never knew she wanted: dominant, sexy, passionate, and a sadist.
As their relationship develops, with her giving a little and him taking a lot, PJ is forced to explore the side of Luke she’s always found disconcerting, all under the watchful eyes of her neighbors Mika and Elliot, the other two men who have come to mean so much to her.

But at what price?

When tensions mount between the three unquestionably alpha males, PJ’s caught in the middle. With Luke’s demands intensifying, Elliot’s possessive behaviour becoming more and more evident, and Mika, always her soft place to fall, claiming a little more of her heart each day, she’s torn. She’s already learnt the hard way that love can hurt, and she thought she knew how much, but nothing could have prepared her for this.

‘Fire in the Blood’ is the second book in ‘The Red Series.’ It is not a stand-alone novel, and I would highly recommend that if you intend to read it, you read ‘A Little Band of Red’ first.

Although both are part of a larger series, the first three novels have been written as a complete trilogy, concluding with ‘To Catch a Flame’, due out in December 2016.

With that in mind, not all of your questions will be answered or all hearts mended. But I promise, in the end they will.

Warning: ‘Fire in the Blood’ includes m/f, m/m and m/m/f scenes as well as a darker event containing violence and elements of non-consent.

Twenty minutes later PJ was a wreck, actually shaking as she walked back down the hall, this time to let Luke in. With sweaty palms she opened the door. Her breathtakingly gorgeous boyfriend was standing right there under the security light, looking like an avenging angel with his sandy brown hair slightly dishevelled and beautiful eyes sparkling. He smiled at her, but straight away PJ could see the tension in Luke’s face, and when she took him in from head to toe, his body too.
“Hello, Darling. Did you miss me?”
She nodded, words refusing to come, her mouth suddenly so dry. With one step, Luke had her wrapped in his arms. Dropping his head, he sucked in a breath, right by her ear before he kissed her.
“Say it.”
    “I missed you, Luke.”
“Good.”
Somehow they made it back to her apartment, though all PJ could remember was his kiss. Her lips still tingled while she stood debating whether she should ask him what was wrong. With a finger he tilted her chin before moving lower, still only one little touch, down her neck, over her sternum. The buttons on her coat popped, one, two, three, before her coat fell, leaving her standing in nothing but her tiny excuse of a dress.
Taking his time, Luke prowled around her. Her pulse surged, her arms fidgeted at her sides, but it was the quietness which surrounded them that made her apprehensive.
“I think we need to talk.”
They did but PJ had absolutely no idea how to start the conversation which had been spinning around her head all day. “We do.”
He took her hands, bringing her fingertips up to his lips then he kissed each one, all the while his eyes never left her face.
“Are you scared of me, PJ? Not of what I’ve done, but of who I am?”
All she could see as she glanced up at him were his soft blue eyes. He looked so sad, so lost and hurt, yet she wouldn’t lie to him.
“I’m scared of … what you could do.”
“I promised you, I’d never give you more than you can handle and I haven’t. I know I’ve taken you close, very close, but I’ve kept you safe. So why don’t you trust me?”
He looked away, his broad shoulders heaving as he fought to remain calm and PJ looked away too. She felt like she was at a crossroads. If she turned left, she’d break Luke’s heart and end it all. If she turned right, and gave him what he wanted, she honestly didn’t know what the outcome would be. What she did know was there was only one way to find out.

I didn’t discover writing like most authors do. There was no childhood dream, no undeniable urge to put pen to paper. My story started off with an unexpected life changing event : a sizeable tax refund and a water-taxi ride caught from the wrong side of the Thames. I’ve always been an avid reader and a daydreamer, so when an idea for a novel was born from those three seemingly unrelated events, I ran with it.

That idea became an obsession and also a passion. My characters are big and bold, the men are dominant to a fault and the women are strong and sassy. I’m fascinated by the concept of fate. One decision causing another and another, all of them having consequences which ultimately draw my characters together only to tear them apart. There will always be a happy ending, because there’s no denying, I’m a romantic at heart – but a little pain woven amongst all that pleasure makes for a very explosive plot.

When I’m not writing or meticulously plotting my next novel, I am a wife and a mother. I have a healthy appetite for physically challenging sports and I love coffee. If all else fails you’ll find me reading a book which was how my journey began and will no doubt be how it will end.
