BLP REVIEW – Tracy

I really wanted to love this book. I liked the blurb and the first few chapters had me laughing so the signs were good …. then, it kinda got a little slow and while I didn’t completely lose interest, I wasn’t totally hooked!

The initial interaction between Brodie and Lizzy was kinda funny but I must admit I didn’t get the vibes that there was an attraction there at that point.

The story takes place over a fairly short time period, which in itself wasn’t an issue. Brodie knew who Lizzy was but the guy was quiet, to the point of seeming socially awkward, and had never tried to meet her face to face. Lizzy was so busy trying not to look like she was interested in who lived next door that she hadn’t fully paid attention to who actually did. Without the interference of a pesky, uninvited squirrel, this pair would probably never have spoken!

Brodie was a good guy and I got why he had concerns and was reluctant to get intimate with Lizzy. He really did overthink things but given the housemates he lived with and that he was a hockey player (and the stereotypes that often go with sports players) his reactions and actions made sense. I did like Lizzy’s reaction once she found out his truth though.

Some of the things they said felt younger than something a 21yo would come out with… who knows, maybe I’m just getting too old for this particular style of book. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I know there are people who will love this story but for me, it just hit slightly off the mark.

(I downloaded the bonus epilogue which was a little in the future which gave us an idea of where Brodie & Lizzy were heading going forward)

The gods…. I LOVED Blaze & Mads, then there was Mav & Bella and while I just know that Tanner is gonna be my absolute fave…. right now I’m ALL about Dalton & Dia!!

My heart hurt for Dia. How she perceived others’ failings as her own, felt she wasn’t good enough, had been treated as if she wasn’t while all the time she was so deserving of everything Dalton Davis could and wanted to give her.
I understood her trepidation about him and her inability to accept what he repeatedly showed her about how he felt and how he valued her so it was great to finally see her begin to realise and believe what her ‘people’ were telling her!

Dalton, I really adored him. He made no bones about the fact that he wasn’t interested in serious until Dia came along and then he was all in…. I loved that he knew what she needed, didn’t push, was understanding and patient. He was everything she needed that she thought she didn’t want.

The banter between this pair was good. The development of their relationship was something to see. The spice was most definitely spicing ‘and these two together were highly combustible! That dirty mouth of Mr Davis… 🥰🥰
I ran through a solid slew of emotions reading this book… honestly think my heart went through the wringers as much as Dalton’s at points.

I like the way friends and family are always included in these books. I love ‘found family’ and that element in Run Game was so important for Dia and made my heart happy.

I’m loving this series and cannot wait for Tanners book, especially now we’ve had a few wee teasers about his past!

This, for me, is definitely a 5 star read!
