I really wanted to love this book. I liked the blurb and the first few chapters had me laughing so the signs were good …. then, it kinda got a little slow and while I didn’t completely lose interest, I wasn’t totally hooked!

The initial interaction between Brodie and Lizzy was kinda funny but I must admit I didn’t get the vibes that there was an attraction there at that point.

The story takes place over a fairly short time period, which in itself wasn’t an issue. Brodie knew who Lizzy was but the guy was quiet, to the point of seeming socially awkward, and had never tried to meet her face to face. Lizzy was so busy trying not to look like she was interested in who lived next door that she hadn’t fully paid attention to who actually did. Without the interference of a pesky, uninvited squirrel, this pair would probably never have spoken!

Brodie was a good guy and I got why he had concerns and was reluctant to get intimate with Lizzy. He really did overthink things but given the housemates he lived with and that he was a hockey player (and the stereotypes that often go with sports players) his reactions and actions made sense. I did like Lizzy’s reaction once she found out his truth though.

Some of the things they said felt younger than something a 21yo would come out with… who knows, maybe I’m just getting too old for this particular style of book. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I know there are people who will love this story but for me, it just hit slightly off the mark.

(I downloaded the bonus epilogue which was a little in the future which gave us an idea of where Brodie & Lizzy were heading going forward)
