PROLOGUE

GRACE

The man and lady of the house my Mummy works in, are screaming at each other and it’s really scary. I can’t remember their names, I’m sure it starts with a big H, but normally they are really nice to me and Mummy, but today is different and I don’t know why.
Mummy and I are downstairs and we can hear every word that is being said between the two of them.
I look over at Mummy and her cold blue eyes that once told me she loved me, now tell me something completely different. They tell me everything she won’t say to me, even though I don’t want it to be true.
“This is all your fault.” I jump at the scary sound above me that sounds like something special is breaking.
“You can tell your British slut to get out of my house.”
“She has nowhere else to go, darling.”
“Don’t you dare darling me, you bastard.” I can hear something else break above and the man says a naughty word. I look over at Mummy and attempt to move towards her for a cuddle, but she walks away from me just as I hear the lady continue shouting.
“You know what? I don’t care about the business over here. You can tell Edward we are moving back to America. I don’t care about that slut and her little bastard.”
All of a sudden the picture changes before me and my adult self is flying through the town I grew up in and I can see my whole childhood before me. All the nasty words my mother or stepfather ever said to me. The slaps to the face my mother loved to give me when she felt I’d done something wrong.
“This is all your fault.”
“You worthless piece of shit.”
“I hate you, we hate you. Even your father couldn’t stand to be near you.”
“He left us, because of you.”
“We live like this, because of you. YOU, GRACE.”
“You won’t amount to anything, you’re useless.”
“I wish I never had you, I hate you and you’re worthless.”
I can feel all the hatred centered in on that little girl and I can feel all the tears she doesn’t show as she grows into the teenager who hates and loathes herself so much. I can see my teenage self standing by the edge of the River Tone just before its cold waters engulf me, drowning me and pulling me down to its depths with my own self-hatred and sorrow. I try to reach the water’s surface, but the cold water is keeping me down, engulfing me with the old memories that still haunt me.
“You’re worthless.”
“You won’t amount to anything.”

What Others Are Saying

Wow what can I say about this book it is utterly heartbreaking but in a great way from a readers point of view it pulls you in from the very first page ~ Goodreads Review

This is an incredible book. The suspense is amazing, and there are scenes that had me in bits. I won’t say which one (spoilers) but one in particular was one of the most tense, incredible, edge-of-my-seat writing I’ve ever read. ~ Goodreads Review

Oh lord this is this book needs very little said about it other than the fact that it is a stunningly beautiful story. ~ Goodreads Review

It’s raw, it’s confronting, it’s heartbreaking, it’s breathtaking. The emotions that this novel was able to evoke in us left us in all honesty speechless. From the very first sentence right until the very end we couldn’t put it down. ~ Goodreads Review

Synopsis

Isabel Nichols’s life changed in more ways than one through the years. As a young child, she experienced a loss that devastated her. It wasn’t until she was an adult that the universe around her shattered. In a twenty-four-hour time frame, she lost what she’d thought was her world. What followed was a year of mourning, a year of grieving, a year of darkness.
Now, there’s one man who can show her the light.

Dakota Jackson left his life behind on a whim, moving to a beach cottage away from the big city where he grew up. He sees through Izzie’s clouds as he gets to know her, with the drive to be everything that she’s ever needed.
The only problem is, Dakota holds the key to a secret that could ruin both of their hopes and dreams.

Passion isn’t always enough to heal a broken heart; love isn’t always enough to guide you through the darkness.

This is about two souls that were meant to be together from the day they were born. Two people who have to figure out a way to look past the memories. It’s the now; it’s living your life as you’re meant to, loving the one your heart craves. It’s about letting go of the grieving, learning to be who you are, and accepting life for what it is.

Can love cure all things despite its hardships?

Endorsement

“Lives entwined as intricately as a lovers’ knot, Dakota balances his need to get closer to Izzie with her need for distance in a battle of wills where love and acceptance is the ultimate prize.” Author Libby Austin.

Excerpt

The glass shatters around my feet and a few pieces actually cut my skin.
“Shit. Shit. Shit!” I yell.
“Don’t move; you’ll cut yourself even more.”
In a flash, I’m lifted from the floor and placed onto the counter. Dakota raised me like it was nothing, and is now looking around for the broom and dustpan.
“Pantry,” I say and point to the door.
“I’m sorry for startling you; I didn’t mean to scare you. Are you always this jumpy?” he asks as he stops what he’s doing to glance at me.
“Yes, when I have a strange man in my kitchen that I don’t know is behind me, I tend to be a little jumpy,” I say with a hint of sarcasm.
“I’m not a stranger, you know. Just a guy that moved in next door and is trying to get to know the neighbor.”
“Are you done yet? I’ve got work to do.”
“Almost, but you need to let me clean the cuts on your foot first, then you can go back to work.”
“I’ll clean them. I don’t need anyone to take care of me. Got it?”

“Oh, I’m sure you can take care of yourself, but I think you should let me take care of you. You know, it’s not a bad thing to let people in.”

God, that smirk he always gives me … it’s about to drive me nuts. Jumping down from the counter, I decide to do this myself. This is a conversation that needs to be avoided. In the bathroom, I lock the door behind me and locate the peroxide and a bandage. I hike my foot up on the side of the tub and dab the cotton ball onto the small cut. My breath hitches from the sting. Satisfied that they’re clean enough, everything goes back up and I head back out.

BLOG TOUR ~ Fitting The Pieces by Janine Infante Bosco

Fitting the Pieces

The Riverdale Series – Book Three

Janine Infante Bosco

Blog Tour:

You’ve laughed with them. You’ve cried with them. Now it’s time to say goodbye to the Lanza Family, in the final installment of The Riverdale Series.

Luke Lanza is a man who has always done the responsible thing. He has faced a lot of challenging obstacles in his life from raising his daughter on his own, to building a successful business, even being the only viable donor that could save his brother’s life. Knowing this about his brother and knowing that he was going to die, Jake asked him to look after the love of his life. Now Luke is torn between the promise he made to his brother and the pull of something he’s never known before.

“Promise me, I need to hear you say it, Luke.”
Luke swallowed. “I promise I’ll take care of Cara, you don’t have to worry about her.” A tear slipped down his cheek as he finished his vow to his little brother.
Jake smiled slightly and closed his eyes. “I could always count on you.”

Cara Sloane is struggling with the loss of her first love and the power of addiction. Jake had been her rock for so long, with him gone she realizes how broken she is. She doesn’t want to feel anything, least of all the emptiness in her heart.

“I know you’re at peace and I should be thankful for that, but I can’t be. I never realized what a selfish person I was. You were suffering and all I could do was pray for you not to leave me.”

A tragic accident leaves Luke and his family pleading with Cara to change the course of her life. Can Cara face her demons and learn there is life after Jake? Can she learn that she can hold onto to the beautiful memories they made together and still live her life?

“I don’t want to fix her because she’s broken.” He said with his own voice sounding a bit broken. “I want to help her because losing her too isn’t an option.”
Individually they try to heal, together they wonder if they can fit the pieces of their broken lives.

“Dance with me.” He repeated and held out his hand to her.
She laughed. “Luke, you don’t dance.”
“You’re right, I don’t.” He held her gaze, giving her his best charming smile.
“Dance with me Spunky.”
“But…” She stopped, curiosity getting the best of her, she placed her hand in his. “You don’t have to dance with me, Luke.” He ignored her and listened for it, waited for it. The beat started, the music making those who didn’t dance instantly want to. Bailando. That was the name of the Spanish flirty music that filtered the tent. Cara bit her lip as the rhythm of the music overcame her, suddenly she felt the overwhelming urge to let go and just dance with him. She looked at Luke. It wasn’t a slow song, poor guy, he’d do anything to make her smile.
She looked around and noticed they were alone on the dance floor and all eyes were on them. She could feel the stares as she stood still for a moment and just watched him. He placed one hand on her hip, his fingers digging in his eyes were directly on hers as he took one of her hands, bringing it around his neck. She couldn’t tear her eyes from his, noticing that there was something lurking in the depths of those dark brown eyes, something she had never seen before. He took her free hand in his and nudged her feet apart with his.
Strangely, she didn’t know what to do with herself she had been dancing for years but always had taken her lead from Jake. They hadn’t been a couple when they went dancing either, it was just something they did and they did it well. She felt Luke’s leg slide between hers, tried her best to focus, to listen to the music and will her feet to move, but it was Luke who moved first. He gripped her hip tighter and then blew her hair away from her ear as he dipped his head.
“Can’t do it all by myself, Spunky.” He whispered huskily. “Move those hips of yours. Show me what they can do…” Oh my God! Cara felt her cheeks redden and then she was spun under his arm and forced to abide by his demand. Her hips sashayed from side to side as she closed in on him. He moved fluidly, his feet gliding around the wooden floor effortlessly. It was natural or so it seemed to her, as he brought her closer. She tried to focus on the words of the song, finding it damn near impossible. Enrique Inglesias was singing that he couldn’t wait any longer. And by the looks of it, neither could Luke. He spun her under their arms, once, twice, three times before bringing her body close to his. His hips rotated and he thrust them into hers. He was all hard lines and the hardest part of him was pressed against her thigh.
She swallowed and peered at him from under the fringe of her lashes. She bit down on her lip and tried to block out the stares that seemed to be burning right through her. She grabbed onto the tie that hung loosely around his neck and began to move her hips slowly, tantalizingly to the beat of the music. She heard the sharp intake of breath he took and then she turned around, still holding onto his tie as she continued to tease him with her hips. Forgetting herself for a moment and just enjoying him she ground her ass into his crotch, feeling his every desire press against her.
That perfect ass dug right into him, fitting against him perfectly. He forgot about counting steps and just held onto her hips, letting her curves be his guide and together they moved to the sultry beat. He wasn’t a dancer. He may never dance again, but the dance that he was doing with Cara, would be burned into his memory.

Damn my fucking pager.
I was moments away from kissing the beautiful, angelic woman who I’m dangerously falling for and my pager goes off. It’s the story of my life. Since the moment I met her, I have told myself being with her would always be a long shot. She’s engaged to another man, she’s in love with another man, but that important fact quickly faded into the background with the way she responded to me; the way her eyes dilated, the way the pulse in her neck began to throb, and the way her foot caressed up my leg. In that moment, I knew she felt exactly the same way as me.
I know I’m treading on dangerous territory, but the pull she seems to have on me is so strong, I find it almost impossible to stay away from her. I know I should stay away; that I need to stay away for both her sake and mine, but even with my heart on the line, I just can’t distance myself away from her. I want Ava like the air I breathe. She’s everything I never realized I needed until the moment I met her.
As I rush back to the NICU, I can’t stop imagining what would have happened back in the cafeteria if my pager hadn’t gone off. If my mouth had inched closer and my lips would have met the sweetness of hers, I would have kissed her as if my life depended on it. As if our lives depended on it. Jesus, just the thought of her pretty lips on mine is making my cock twitch with a surge of excitement, and I’m incredibly thankful that my white coat hides the confinements of my hard-on.
However, it deflates in a millisecond when I arrive on the NICU, and I’m met with a preemie who has stopped breathing completely, and everything I was thinking disappears. I focus on the only thing that matters—saving this baby’s life. Once I manage to get him breathing again with the assistance of the CPAP, I leave him in the capable hands of the nurses and head over to the nurses’ station to arrange an x-ray on his lungs.
“Dr. Bailey,” I hear as I put the phone down with the radiology department. I turn to the nurse behind the desk. “Do you know a lady called Lou? I had a nurse from surgical services call; she said her patient wants to see you, insisting on it actually.”
I smile brightly at the sound of her name. Lou is an eighty-seven year old lady who used to live next door to me, until she got too bad on her feet and had to move into a nursing home.
She’s a sweetheart. She used to love baking, and because she didn’t have any family of her own, she used to come by daily to inundate my best friend, Darnell, and I, with freshly baked cookies. She always reminded me so much of my own grandmother before she lost her battle to cancer; so naturally I took her under my wing. It’s been a while since I’ve seen her, as I rarely get a day off.
Before I take my patient to radiology, I head on down to surgical services to see Lou, making a small detour to the gift shop where I pick out a bouquet of calla lilies for her. I’m directed to her room, and as I enter, I say, “Did somebody order a doctor?” She looks up from the television screen and her wrinkled face lights up.

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Damaged & Dangerous by A.J.Downey

Title: Damaged & Dangerous
Series: The Sacred Hearts MC VI
Author: A.J. Downey

Release Date: September 27, 2015

She’s Damaged…

Dani Broussard never imagined that her life would turn out like this. She always thought that her grandfather would be there for her into adulthood and that her high school sweetheart, Jared, would be the man she would marry. That isn’t what happened though. Instead, her grandfather got sick and passed away before Dani saw the age of nineteen. It was just her and Jared until he hooked up with a local MC, The Suicide Kings… Then it was just her. Pig-Pen claimed her body, rules her life, but he would never hold her heart. Kept because of her looks and a particular set of skills unique only to her, Dani has been with The Suicide Kings for the last three years… three long damaging years. She hates it, all of it, the pain the humiliation, the fear… and as strong as Dani is, as clever as she can be, she is quickly finding that death may be the kinder, gentler option rather than live through any more of this hell.

He’s Dangerous…

Red-XIII is, and always will be, a Sacred Hearts man. But for now, he’s a Suicide Kings prospect. Tasked with providing intelligence on the King’s inner workings to his real club, Thirteen has been slowly, quietly and carefully dismantling the King’s operation from the inside out. The situation is dangerous, good thing Thirteen is a dangerous guy but even he can’t be everywhere at once and a couple of missteps have cost the Sacred Hearts dearly. Doubly determined to finish this with no more wreckage or damage to the SHMC, Thirteen is blindsided by his heart when he lays eyes on Dani. A pretty, little thing with long black hair and striking blue eyes. She slays him with one look from her damaged soul and now Thirteen has tasked himself with two missions… Take down The Suicide Kings and get both Dani and himself out alive.

For now those missions run parallel to each other but what happens if they ever end up at odds? The bigger question is, how can he get close to the VP’s Ol’ Lady as a Prospect and not get them both burned?

“How the hell you get that?” he demanded.

“Came through on my personal cell, someone mass-texted it. I have so many goddamned contacts, I didn’t realize I still had anybody from the club in it. No worries, my cover is secure. No one saw shit. I don’t leave things like that lyin’ around.”

D grunted into the phone, “Cops‘re still sittin’ on us. They still watching you?” he asked.

“If by ‘you’, you mean The Suicide Kings, then yeah. Unmarked tan cargo van when we pulled in from the run. It’s a good thing Gordy’s a paranoid fucker and sweeps for listening devices on the regular. Pretty sure they only got visual. They’ll get tired soon enough and fuck off onto something bigger and better.”

“Yeah. With our history, they ain’t investigatin’ or cryin’ too hard about our plight.” Dragon sounded both tired and downright pissed off at that. I didn’t blame him. Chandra deserved a lot better. Reave, too! Don’t get me wrong. But as a brother, you expect this shit to happen. No women and no children had been the SHMC motto from the beginning, even before our reformed ways. We did some gnarly and seriously rancid shit back in the day. Guns,
drugs, gambling – you name it. But we always left the women and children out of it.

No prostituting, no hitting. Rape was liable to get your dick chopped off – which is why, no matter how fucking hard, no matter how often the Suicide Kings tried to get me to join in on one of their trains, it was no fucking dice. Because very rarely, if ever, were the chicks they were fucking at all clear-headed or into it.

It bothered me, a whole fuck of a lot, the way these animals treated their women and I found myself spilling it all. I told D everything I’d seen going on, everything I could garner about their operation, in effect, unburdening my soul from all the awful shit I’d been a party to in the name of the greater good. In the name of spying out our enemy. He was quiet for a long time on the other end and finally let out a sigh that made him sound like he felt every single year and every single mile. It’d been weeks since I last talked to him beyond a short text. The deeper I got in with these fuckers, the more I was around them, the less opportunity there was for full on communication.

“Do you need out?” he asked.

My thoughts drifted to Raccoon, to her sharp and calculating stare as she’d passed me my face mask.

“No man, I’m good. My work ain’t over yet. Not by a long, flat, mile. It’ll be done when every one of these fuckers is in the ground and the Suicide Kings ain’t nothin’ but the dust of fuckin’ memory.”

She has lived many places and done many things though mostly through her own imagination… An avid reader all of her life it’s now her turn to try and give back a little, entertaining as she has been entertained. She lives in a small house in a small neighborhood with a larger than life fiancé and one cat.
