BLOG TOUR – My Grumpy Billionaire by Nadia Lee

My Grumpy Billionaire, an all-new must-read romantic comedy full of heat and laughs from New York Timesbestselling author Nadia Lee is available now!

My ex won’t accept that it’s over. He showed up at my divorce-cation in New Orleans at a masquerade ball. Lucky for me, a tall, debonair man in a mask rescued me and swept me away. It. Was. Phenomenal. And yeah, I had a one-night stand. And I’d do it again.

Back in the real world, the ex persists. And while I’m a woman who believes in saving herself, I was relieved when his sexy colleague Griffin jumped in and implied that we were dating to get the jerk to bug off. Of course, now we have to pretend to be dating.

Griffin is the least likely match for me. He’s grumpy and serious. But very. VERY. Hot. And he reminds me of a certain man I met in New Orleans…

Now I’m not sure if we’re faking it, or if the feelings are real, but I see that Griffin is nothing like I thought. And even though he doesn’t want to chat about pleasure augmentation devices with me, he knows how to use them.

But where there’s silicone, there’s scandal. What I didn’t anticipate was that Griffin’s got some scandals of his own.

Excerpt

The guest room Sierra takes me to after dinner faces the master bedroom. The only thing separating us is the hall. And the doors, of course.

It makes sense. If her ex-husband decides to break into the place, I’ll be right here. I don’t think he’s quite that deranged, but then, I didn’t think he had it in him to show up at Sierra’s place drunk, so anything’s possible.

“This is the biggest room, other than mine,” she says, gesturing me in. “You have your own bathroom. It has a tub and a separate shower stall. Fully stocked with body wash and shampoo. I can give you conditioner if you need it. Towels are in there, too. If you need anything else, let me know. You can explore the rest of the house later. There isn’t much except for three rooms on this floor, downstairs, which you already saw, and the basement which you can look at tomorrow. Mi casa es su casa and all that.”

“Okay.” I stop at the sight of the bed. It’s king-size, which is fine, but… “Pink sheets?”

She looks at them. “Fuchsia.”

“Pink.”

“No. They’re fuchsia. Very different. And brand new. Nobody’s ever slept on the bed or the sheets,” she adds, like somehow that makes it better.

It doesn’t. And for some reason, this room, too, smells like apple. Like her.

“Did you spray the place with air freshener?” I ask, breathing shallowly. I’m going to become positively Pavlovian over this damn scent.

She frowns. “I don’t use air freshener. Why? Are you allergic to something in the room? Are you having a reaction?”

She sounds almost too eager as she asks. Does she want me to keel over?

It is possible, I decide. A woman this chirpy and happy must have a dark side nobody knows about to counterbalance all that brightness.

“I have some antihistamine,” she offers, looking up at me helpfully. Like a puppy waiting to be praised. And loved.

My heart feels weird. F*ck. Me. I better not be having a heart attack in a house that smells like apple and a woman who’s driving me crazy with her smile.

“I’m not allergic,” I say, before she decides to order an EpiPen over the Internet. “I just thought the place smells…” Like you. Hot. Sexy. Fresh. Makes me horny. “Funky,” I say, blurting out the first antonym that snaps into my head for what I’ve been thinking.

She looks horrified. “Funky?” She walks around, sniffing. Finally, she stops at the foot of the bed. “I don’t smell anything except fabric softener.”

“You’ve been here for too long. Your nose becomes numb to the scent.” I’d rather drink bleach than tell her I’m feeling horny over the infernal apple scent.

“You’ve been here for a while too. So how come you can smell it?”

“An exceptional nose,” I tell her. “If I were a dog, I would’ve been a bloodhound.”

“Hmm.” She looks skeptical. “Well, if the smell bothers you that much, you can open the windows. Actually, let’s just do that right now. Air the room out a little.” She pushes the curtains—which are in a shade in between purple and pink—aside and opens the windows. “There. That should do it. Now, do you need anything else? Other than an air freshener?”

“No.”

“At least it’s just funky, not skunky,” she jokes.

Is that supposed to make me feel better?

“Good night. And thanks for staying here.” She flashes a sweet smile, then leaves.

The second she closes the door behind her, the room feels empty. I exhale, trying to gain a logical perspective on the situation. My own bedroom is twice as large as this one. There’s no reason to feel so…alone.

I brush my teeth, change into a pair of boxers and slide under the sheets, clicking the bedside lamp off. I put my nose in the sheets and inhale. She must use apple-scented fabric softener, because I can still smell that damned fruit. Just like her shampoo.

At least nothing here smells like silicone d*cks.

My mind doesn’t do pep talks very well.

Right now, I’d rather smell rubbery silicone. The smell of the apple is driving me crazy. I keep thinking about how Sierra looked yesterday in that dress that showed off the sensual lines of her arms and legs.

And was she wearing a bra when we were having dinner downstairs?

Cut that out, I order my unruly mind. There was nothing to see.

Only because the shirt was big. She probably wasn’t wearing a bra. If it were tighter, her nipples would’ve shown through the fabric.

Argh. I turn over and force myself to count sheep.

By the time I reach two hundred and thirty-seven, I give up. It’s no use. Every time I shift and my bare skin touches the sheets, my nerve endings prickle, and my blood heats. My d*ck is painfully hard.

No number of sheep is going to help that.

There’s supposedly this powdered aphrodisiac that’s absorbed through the skin. When you want to seduce somebody, you just find some way to get it on the other person’s body.

Noah told me that after spending some time in a Southeast Asian jungle. He likes to talk about all sorts of asinine things he’s seen and heard after trips he takes to photograph wildlife. There’s no way there’s powdered aphrodisiac sprinkled on the sheets.

Then why are you hard for no reason?

I sigh and run a hand over the sheets. Nothing.

Could be super-fine powder…

I bury my face in the sheets and inhale. If there’s powder, I’ll cough.

But nope. Nothing. I can breathe fine.

However, powdered aphrodisiac or no, the fact that I have a throbbing erection doesn’t change. I know I’m not getting any sleep until I do something about it.

The solution is simple. Jerk off real fast, then roll over and go to sleep. I’ve done it many times before. Just not in a girl’s room that smells like apple p*rn.

I push a hand under the sheets, fist my shaft and move up and down mechanically, the way I always do when I need a quick release.

The expected pleasure builds, but it’s flat. There’s no buildup, no swelling that’s going to push me over the edge. Now it’s worse because my d*ck’s harder, pulsing rapidly, but it isn’t going to let me come.

I raise my head off the pillow and glare at my d*ck in the dark. Just how picky are you?

My p*nis stays silent, but it twitches once. It feels like, F*ck you.

Bastard.

I drop my head back on the pillow and close my eyes, hand still around my c*ck. It shows no sign of settling down. The scent of apple is stronger, and my crotch is throbbing so badly, it’s painful.

Although I’ve been resisting the idea, I know exactly what I need.

EXCERPT

“Look, I know I sound crazy, but please. I’m not.” Her words come out fast and desperate. “My stepbrother’s a psychopath. He’s been harassing me, and the police say they can’t do anything until he does something more physically threatening. Apparently, playing mind games doesn’t count. He has to do something concrete.”

That’s always the case. Mental torture is far superior, and it’s much harder for law enforcement to deal with, especially when the target keeps moving. It’s virtually impossible to build a case among so many different jurisdictions. That’s one reason the most prolific serial killers generally kill across state lines.

Roy Wilks is a cunning little jackal. It’s so simple to break a person. And you don’t even have to touch them to do that.

Just look at this girl. She wouldn’t be asking a man she barely knows for help if she hadn’t been driven almost to her breaking point. For all I know, she might be broken already.

“I can pay you,” she adds. “I have some money saved up. Just in case.” Just in case I need to hire somebody to take my brother out is what she really wants to say.

I raise my eyebrows. The last time I checked, she had nine thousand and fifty-six dollars and twenty-two cents in her bank account. According to the statements over the years, she’s been saving a little bit at a time, despite working minimum-wage jobs.

It came with sacrifice. She doesn’t go to movies, doesn’t go out, doesn’t buy anything except the bare essentials—clearance-rack clothes and shoes—and she eats only what’s cheapest. Given her reaction last night, I’m pretty sure she skips meals when she can.

The notion puts a nasty taste in my mouth. People who don’t need killing should eat.

“I can give you all of it,” she says, then nods for emphasis. “It’s all yours.”

“I don’t want your money,” I say.

Her chin comes up as fire sparks in her whiskey gaze. “Look, it’s not a small amount. I have almost ten grand.”

“I don’t care if you have ten billion.”

Her fingers tighten. Her hand is barely large enough to circle half my forearm, but she’s trying her best to hold on to me.

For a reason I can’t quite identify, I like that. And because I like it, I want to be a jerk about what she’s saying even though I’m going to say yes at the end anyway. I don’t want her knowing how much I enjoy this small contact.

Before I can say anything, her mouth firms. “Okay. I hate to have to use this, but… I know what you did last night.”

“You do?”

She nods.

“Everything?”

“Everything.”

I give her a purposefully salacious smile. “I should update my security. I didn’t know you were watching me masturbate in the shower.”

Her face flushes.

I let my smile grow wider. “I came hard. Twice. Hope you enjoyed it. If I’d known you were watching, I would’ve—”

“No!” She hunches her shoulders as though just realizing how loud she was. “I meant,” she hisses, “I saw you at the house. The man in the news today who supposedly committed suicide. You…suicided him, didn’t you?”

Suicided. When did that become a verb? “You were there? At the house?”

“Yes.” She tries for a hard-bitten stare.

This is an amusing turn of events. I didn’t expect her to attempt to blackmail me. What’s next? Trying to strangle me into submission? She just might, from the desperation in her eyes. Whatever she got in the package from her stepbrother freaked the hell out of her.

Strangely enough, I want her to try to put her hands on my bare skin, even if it’s around my neck. Of course I’m too tall for her to strangle me while standing, so she’d have to pull me down to the ground, then straddle me, her inner thighs pressed tightly against my sides. As she strained—futilely—her hot breath would fan my face, her eyes burning into mine. When I’d had enough, it’d be child’s play to flip her over, watch her gasp while she was spread underneath my much bigger and stronger body. And I’d enjoy the realization dawning in those whiskey eyes that she was utterly in my power.

“I’m very willing to go to the police.” Her words break my thoughts.

I almost laugh. She honestly believes she was good enough to tail me without my noticing. Either she’s lost her better judgment, or she’s too desperate to think clearly.

“And I’ll tell them everything I saw,” she says, her hands in tight fists.

I let out a soft sigh. Her threat is about as serious as a kitten smacking a lion with its tiny paw. “And after I fed you dinner last night.”

Her throat works as she swallows. She shifts her weight and looks like she wishes she could sink into the concrete. Ashamed, aren’t you, little fawn? You have a functioning conscience. A liability in my business.

“That’s…different.” She can’t meet my gaze. Her face is red, too.

She’s cute. “Ah, yes. Say thank you for the sandwich, then run to the cops and put the man in jail. Two very different activities.”

“I don’t want to do that.”

“I don’t know what kind of person you think I am, but I’m not for hire. I’m too busy with my job at the foundation as an assistant.”

Confusion crosses her pretty face. She probably thought I worked in security. Cute. Very cute.

I pull out some money from my pocket, then smack it square into her hand. “Here. Take this and buy yourself something nice.”

“Ow!” She gasps, but not because I just placed three hundred bucks in her hand. “What did you…?” she says numbly. She tries to look at her hand, but her legs start to fold.

I catch her and pick her up, like Prince Charming carrying his Cinderella. She grows increasingly limp, her eyes unfocused. “Wha…”

“Don’t worry.” I smile. “The needle’s very thin. You won’t even find the hole when you wake up.”

—–

“I could strip, too.”

And talk to him while he’s sitting there naked? Given how shameless he is, I doubt he’d cover himself. No. He’d sit there, one ankle over the other knee, and smoke his cigar and sip his water, like he has the world at his feet.

“That’s…okay,” I say finally.

“If you’re certain. Just let me know if you change your mind. I wouldn’t want a guest feeling uncomfortable.”

If you wanted me to feel comfortable, you’d give me my clothes back! But the words stay trapped in my mouth. Right now, that isn’t the point.

The point is, I’m in his home. Under his control. I could put up the best fight of my life, but it would be about as effective as a mouse fighting a panther. I really wish I’d been able to snag a knife from the kitchen.

“So. Now that you can’t just run off to the authorities when you hear answers you don’t like, talk. Tell me why you came to me.”

RELEASE DAY BLITZ ~ An Unlikely Bride (Billionaires’ Brides of Convenience #7) by Nadia Lee

AVA

The meek shall inherit the earth, they say.

Bullshit. Look at me now. What do I have? Nothing.

I thought I wouldn’t get past a second heartbreak. I was wrong. I never should’ve closed myself off in tears when Lucas told me he loved me. I should’ve had faith he wouldn’t betray me.

Regaining his love will mean throwing away my pride, my armor and laying myself completely bare. I have to trust that he won’t crush me at my most vulnerable.

The attempt will leave me bleeding. It might just kill me. But I definitely won’t survive knowing that I didn’t fight for what I wanted: my future.

A future with the only man I ever loved…a man more important than the very air I breathe…

LUCAS

You gotta put yourself out there to get what you want.

My ass.

I bared my heart to Ava. I begged for her trust, her love.

Instead she shattered my soul.

She’s circling me, her pretty eyes vulnerable. She won’t fool me this time. I’ll never give her another shot. I’ll break her before she breaks me…

Note: The last book in Lucas and Ava’s epic love story! No cliffhanger.

“I was in love with you.”
The words come out in a barely audible whisper, but his entire demeanor hardens. The lines on his face are harsher, colder and more aloof. My mouth is so dry, my lips and tongue feel like dead leaves.
“Then why did you say it was over? Why did you call me toxic?” His voice has no inflection. Just a terrifying calm…and something else I can’t process at the moment.
“Because…” I’m jittery all over. I’ve never been this nervous in my life. “I never wanted to be in love with you. I was afraid.”
“Bullshit. I told you I loved you. I said it first.”
“I didn’t think you meant it.”
His hands clench into fists. “Why are you telling me this now?” His jaw flexes. “Is this some kind of game? Didn’t I give you enough money?”
“I never wanted your money!”
I’m shaking so hard I can’t think or speak. The right words all disappear from my mind when faced with his implacable façade. I blindly reach for something to steady myself and grasp the back of an armchair. My knuckles whiten, and I start to lose the feeling in my hand.
Start at the beginning. It’s always easier that way.
“I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing by being here. Maybe I’m making a mistake. I’ve been miserable without you, even though I told myself I was better off on my own. Then I saw you kiss Faye, and it was like somebody took a sledgehammer to my heart. It still feels that way every time I think about it. Then your sister told me I was the one at fault. Because I didn’t fight for you.” I close my eyes, hoping it’ll help me focus. It doesn’t work that well, but at least I can block out Lucas’s impassive face. “I never fought for what I wanted because I never found anything—or anyone—I wanted badly enough. Then when I found you, I couldn’t bring myself to fight because I was certain I’d never be allowed to keep the prize. You’re so perfect, so…everything. Why would you be with someone like me?”
Silence stretches, and I open my eyes, unable to bear the suspense. Lucas is studying me with the oddest expression on his face.
“Why not? What’s wrong with you?” he asks, his voice hushed.
My throat closes. I should’ve known he wasn’t going to let the past go so easily. I should’ve known I cut him too deeply, that he’d want to see me bleed. “I’ll go. Sorry I interrupted your day.”
I hardly take a step before his hand closes around my wrist. “No, you can’t leave like this. Answer the question—what is wrong with you?”
I yank on my arm, but he holds firm. “What’s wrong with me? Isn’t it obvious?”
“No.”
“I’m a mess!” I fling my free arm. “I’m exactly the kind of girl people like you fuck on the side but don’t date, don’t introduce to your family, don’t think about long-term.”
“Why not?”
“Look at me and look at you. I was raised by an uneducated single mom who didn’t know any better. She thought she could get my dad to marry her if she had me, but it wasn’t enough. He was happy to come by, play daddy when it suited him…and then leave—go back to his perfect upper-middle class family. Mom and I were just props so he could play at being some rough, blue-collar guy when he was bored with his suburban life.”
Realization dawns on his face, but I turn away.
“Let me go, Lucas.”
“Why did you come here?”
I shake my head. It’s too humiliating.
“I’m not letting you go until you tell me.” When I press my lips together, he shakes me. “Tell me, damn you. What did you think you could gain by coming here?”
“I don’t know.” Liar. Liar. Every cell in my body begs to leave. I can’t stay here anymore and endure the pain or humiliation. I should’ve accepted I lost. The time to fight was in Charlottesville, not now.
“Ava, tell me.”
His visible eye is narrowed, and his nostrils flare. I’m going to have to hit rock bottom, and then bring out a shovel, before he lets me go. “Because Elizabeth told me you’re going to marry Faye. Because I thought if I bared myself to you, things might change.”
“So you’re here to fight…for me?”
“Fight…” I sniffle, then shrug helplessly. “I don’t know how to fight. We can’t go back in time and erase all the harsh words between us.” I drop my gaze. “It was a mistake for me to come, and I’m sorry.”
“Is that all you’re feeling? Just regret?”
I close my eyes for a moment. I don’t want to tell him, but I owe him that much. After all, he bared everything to me before. “No. I feel…defeated. Hollow. You stole my heart twice. I could’ve survived the first time, but the second…” I swallow. “I’m never going to be whole. I’m in love with you. Always have been. You’re an impossible man to fall out of love with.” I exhale roughly, my entire being wrung out. “Will you let go now? Please?”
“I can’t.”
His palms cradle my face, and his mouth crashes down on mine. My thoughts fry, and I let go of everything except the incredible sensation his kiss elicits within me. I part my lips, brush my tongue against his and feel the groan vibrating from his chest. He tastes just like I remember—the sweetest and most amazing homecoming.
I dig my fingers into his hair, hold him tightly to me, afraid if I don’t, he’s going to slip away…just like in my dream. I’ll die if this is just a figment of my imagination.
