I’ve been intrigued by our curmudgeon of this Special Ops Scots trio since we were introduced to him in book one.
Callum, as it turns out, has a lot of reason to be a right grumpy Scot and my heart ached for him when we discovered how closed off and reclusive (when not at their new venture) he was.
I liked him when he was a grousing bugger but I adored him when he started to come out of his shell and gain back some of who he was.
Parker was like a whirlwind hitting his life, saving him not only from causing his new business issues but also from himself. I loved how she SAW him. The little things she did quietly and unobtrusively to help make his work days easier were thoughtful and kind and showed how good a person she was. It also hinted at the fact that she understood a lot of what Callum was going through and where his head might be at. The inclusion of Parker’s own issue was interesting and well done.
For his part Callum had an instinctual need to protect Parker and look out for her. When he discovered why she had hot footed it to their tiny village in the highlands he was supportive and let her do her thing her way while always trying to make sure she was ok and doing what he could to help and comfort her. His interactions with her folks made for interesting reading, revealing what layers of himself he kept hidden away.
There was some action that was engaging and not drawn out.
I liked that the majority of the story was focused on their growing friendship and developing relationship.
I loved catching up with the girls from the Kilted Hearts series as well as Ciara from the previous book in the SOS world. I cannot wait to see the fireworks that spark in the final book in the series….. that one is gonna be fun I’m sure.
Grab this book as it’s a great read, but start with the first book in the series as it makes the experience a lot more enjoyable.
** I also read the epilogue that Kait wrote for this pair and, the gods, did it make my heart happy!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. My only complaint was there wasn’t enough of it!!!! 😈
ATW gave us an insight into Gabi’s time off island when she left to attend college. When we catch up with her it’s a few years later and she’s home to work at the local island clinic which was always her plan.
While she was away she met a guy who was a coastguard and for the time they were together she thought this was the real deal with a future, until the day he dropped a bomb and put his career before them! Gabi’s heart is busted and she feels they were more a situationship than a relationship.
Daniel knew he’d messed up pretty much right away – well yeah, the lack of discussion or communication on taking a new post with the gal you’ve been getting serious with was his first misstep…. but he sets about trying to fix things.
He’s the last person Gabi expects to see arrive to help the town get organized before a hurricane hits the island. To say she’s not best pleased would be an understatement.
You would think that Daniel would have leaned from his first mess up with Gabi that communication was key… hey, no!!
He’s there partly to assist hurricane prep but there’s a bigger reason and he doesn’t tell her. Will this pair ever manage to work things out? 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ I did enjoy the intrigue that story line brought to the book.
I liked that this novella filled a question I had from Sawyer & Willa’s book. We had seen Gabi and Daniel in that and I was curious about both her being back home and who he was.
HJ gave us a great epilogue extra for this pair that made me way happy as their book kinda finished in a happy for now note.
I’m looking forward to catching up with the couple and the other characters we’ve met so far as the series continues.

I’ve been looking forward to this book since I read ‘One Fine Night, when Ciara & Alex initially met.
Ciara is still hurt that Alex ghosted her after the night they shared and promises they made the next morning. When she sees him again that hurt and heartbreak is reinforced and she is determined to avoid him as much as possible – which isn’t gonna be easy in the small village they now both call home.
Alex, for his part, didn’t ‘ghost’ the girl he still thinks about without, in his mind, good reason…. a lot of which he can’t tell Ciara given the nature of events that have happened in the past few years since they last saw each other.
Ciara is moving on from a relationship she probably shouldn’t have even started except her ex isn’t taking the hint. In a desperate attempt to get this guy to leave her alone, she spots Alex and tells her ex that they’re in a relationship. What she didn’t consider in the moment was just how small towns talk and how fast gossip spreads. This sees the pair faking a relationship until things quiet down and she knows for sure that the ex has gotten the message.
While they are ‘pretending’ they’re together things between our MCs start heating up, they grow closer and things are looking like they could be heading in the right direction, finally…. until a series of unexplained incidents take place that threatens to destroy what they’re steadily building.
Loved meeting Alex’s friends and finding out about the business they are looking to open in the village. Catching up with the gang from the Kilted Hearts series was fun. The mystery and suspense added to the story and overall it was a great read.
I’m excited about the rest of the series.

I love Kait Nolan’s books. Being a Scot I’m especially enamoured with her stories set in my home country.
I’ve been looking forward to the Special Ops Scots series since the Kilted Hearts series wrapped up.
One Fine Night was a fabulous introduction to Ciara and Alex.
Alex is a complete mystery. We don’t know why he’s left the military and I’m looking forward to finding out his story.
Ciara is herself uncertain of her future and what she really wants to do. I’m hoping she returns home to Glenlaig and it’ll be interesting seeing how things turn out for her.
This pair really are destined to be together but you just know that Kait is not gonna make their path to a HEA an easy one…. with the help of Ewan, Ciara’s big brother and Alex’s friend, obviously! 😈
A great kickstart to this new series. I can’t wait for their story to continue.

I’m a big fan of Kait Nolan’s books and I especially love the Special OPs Scots series as it’s got a bit more going on intrigue wise, so when I heard KN was writing as Harper Jackson and that the books were gonna be romantic suspense I was intrigued!
I have to say this was a great read and a really good start to the Wayward Sons series, though this is not one of the guys books. The story is centered around Caroline & Hoyt.
Caroline is Rios’s sister and the story lays the groundwork and setting for the series. I liked that a lot of the characters were put into the story and I’m looking forward to their books.
We find out that Caroline’s family has a tyrant of a father and a lot of the time the family is the point of gossip and speculation. It’s during one of these times that Caroline finds herself either an unlikely ally.
Caroline had a crush on Hoyt when they were younger but nothing ever came of it. She meets him again when he’s returned home to start work with the local fire department.
Turns out Hoyt had a bit of a crush himself… that makes things more interesting …. so when he hears gossiping about Caroline and her family he has no second thought about standing up to support her and this leads to a relationship of sorts!!
I liked that Hoyt was accepting of going at Caroline’s pace when it came to thoughts of a proper relationship. I liked them as a couple and how they supported the other.
There’s a fair bit going on in this first book and SotW had me second guessing myself a couple of times. I thought I knew who the culprit was then I was hedging…. Great writing and a really good start to what I’m sure is gonna be a fab series, I’m looking forward to the unraveling of a few secrets.
