Book Blurb:

Dog trainer and handler, Jillian Lederman, is moving with her pack to Libby, Montana, a place where she has made friends and hopes to find a fresh start. It’s time. For years, she’s just been keeping her wounds fresh by staying in Missoula—where there were regular reminders of all she’s lost—while the rest of the world has continued to move forward.

Perhaps the new house, the beautiful mountains, and a certain pair of clear, blue eyes hold the promise of new beginnings.

Since changing careers years ago, former FBI agent Lucas Wolff has found a much better work-life balance as a member of High Mountain Trackers. Still able to serve his community, he has also been carving out a comfortable existence for himself and is not looking to make any changes to it anytime soon. Not even for a particular bold and ballsy redhead he’s been trying to avoid.

That turns out to be an impossible feat when a plane crash during a blizzard sets both of them on the trail of a young girl, all alone in the mountains. But it soon becomes evident they are not the only ones looking, and staying safe means sticking close together.

BLP TEVIEW – Tracy

I’m loving this spin off series more and more as we meet these guys.

Jillian and Lucas had met previously in the last book and there’s was a definite attraction but when one of you has a painful past and the other doesn’t believe in love and lasting relationships, is there anywhere to go?!

This pair start off working together and become friends.
The attraction and chemistry never wanes but they both need a person to rely on and be there, though neither would admit it. They were exactly what each needed and I loved seeing their friendship progress to more.

As ever we caught up with other characters and familiar faces from earlier in the series. I adored Wolf’s mum. She was lovely and a little impish when it came to Lucas and Jillian anytime Jill was visiting with the dogs and Lucas was around.

You know by now to expect lots of intrigue, some secrets and twists and a ton of action in the story along with a sense of family and belonging and a big dose of heat and tension (of a few kinds) when it comes to the MCs in a Freya Barker book and High Intensity definitely lived up to its title!

Where this could be read as a standalone, you’d be missing out if you didn’t start at the beginning of the series.

Can’t wait for more in the series.

Excerpt:

When I get to her place, I dig through the back seat of my truck to find something cleaner to wear than the clothes I have on now. I dig up a sports bag that must’ve been in there for a couple of months, since I haven’t been to the gym in at least that long. But at least it holds a pair of clean socks, a shirt, and some sweats that smell better than the jeans I have on. I didn’t realize how foul I reeked until the beautiful aroma from the pizza was overwhelmed by the smell of cow shit. No way I can eat smelling like this.

Using Janey’s bathroom—which is permeated by her scent—is the worst kind of torture. I briefly contemplate polishing one off in the shower, but decide against it. Instead, I turn the faucet to cold for a few minutes before I step out.

Janey is on her couch, her feet tucked under her as she’s watching the news on TV. The pizza and iced teas, along with a couple of plates and napkins, are waiting on the coffee table.

“Unless you want to sit at the table?” she asks when I walk in.

“Not particularly.”

I drop down beside her.

“You could’ve started without me,” I suggest.

“You weren’t that long,” she returns, reaching to flip open the pizza box.

My stomach rumbles loudly as she loads three pieces on a plate and hands it to me, before serving herself.

I was wrong; sitting next to Janey as she moans through her first tastes of a cheesy bratwurst pizza has to be the worst kind of torture by far.

Blurb:

Since taking over the veterinary clinic in Libby, Montana last year, Janey Richards has been burning the candle at both ends. She’s grateful she is busy, but there has barely been any time to build a life outside of work. To help pay down her debt faster, she agrees to take on responsibility for the livestock at Libby’s annual rodeo, but perhaps she should’ve thought twice about the added stress.
Although, her personal life is definitely looking up.

JD Watike never thought he’d end up following in his father’s footsteps, but he’s found his stride these past six years as a member of the High Mountain Trackers team. He enjoys the simplicity of small-town living, which has only gotten more interesting since Doc Richards appeared on the scene.
Spending most of the past year patiently observing from a distance, the time feels right for him to make his move.
Or at least to clear up some misunderstandings.

The opportunity presents itself sooner than expected, when the pretty veterinarian stumbles onto some serious criminal activity at the Libby Roundup, and a young woman disappears from the grounds, he has plenty of cause to stay glued to her side.

Here’s your exclusive excerpt!

“Oh, Jillian, I’d like you to meet my son, Lucas.” I meet those pretty green eyes, now sparkling with amusement. Of course a dog named Peanut would belong to this woman. She named her cadaver dog, Emo, after all. Hell, I knew she recently moved to the area—Sloane mentioned it more than once—but I wasn’t expecting to run into her at my mother’s assisted-living home. That’s a little too close for comfort. “So you do have a first name; Lucas, huh?” “You already know each other?” Mom looks back and forth between us. “We do. How are you doing, Jillian?” She adjusts the small furball she’s holding in her arms. “Good, thanks.” I turn to my mother to explain, “Jillian and I met working on a search last summer.” Despite my immediate attempt to identify our connection as a professional one only, I see Mom’s mind already at work behind the gleam in her eyes. Great.

Excerpt:

“What do you need me to do?” I offer.

Next thing I know, my arms open automatically when she shoves the baby at me.

“Take her.”

Ama disappears inside before my brain can come up with an objection.

Any baby experience I have began and ended with Carmi, Sully’s daughter, and Fletch’s son, Hunter, and that was twelve or thirteen years ago. It’s not that I don’t like babies, because I do, but the fact this is Sloane’s baby is making it a little awkward. Still, I settle her a little better in the crook of my arm.

Then I hear the creak of the rocking chair and Thomas’s raspy chuckle and look up. The old fart clearly thinks this is funny.

“You should see the look on your face,” he points out as he continues to rock his chair. “I’m guessing young Sloane becoming a parent was a surprise to you as well?”

“Yes,” I grumble, just as a little hand slaps against my chin and catches on the short hairs of my beard.

I drop my eyes to Sloane’s baby, who has her little face turned toward me. I don’t know who the dark hair belongs to, but those blue eyes are unmistakably her mother’s.

“Aspen. That’s her name,” Thomas shares. “Pretty little thing, ain’t she?”

She is, especially when her little mouth spreads in a wide, toothless smile.

“You look good holdin’ that baby,” he continues. “Too bad you let her momma slip away, or that wee one could’a been yours.”

Fuck. That stings.

Should’ve known the old man wouldn’t hesitate to poke his finger in the sore spot.

“I’m not the one who left.”

The bitter comment slips out before I can check it.

“No, you weren’t. You’re just the one who let her walk.”

Agitated, I get to my feet, shifting the baby to my shoulder as I start to pace the porch.

“It wasn’t that simple.”

“It never is, son. It never is.”

Book Blurb:

When the rug is pulled from under Detective Sloane Eckhart, she leaves the Billings PD and returns to Libby, Montana.

Eight years ago she left with her pride and the promise of a future, but her heart was broken. On her return, there is no pride left, no prospects to speak of, but at least her heart is safely secured in the back seat.

Still, a bit of groveling, a kind offer of help, and a brand-new job with the sheriff’s office quickly gets her back on her feet.

High Meadow will always be home to Dan Blakely. Working with horses, being part of the HMT search and rescue team, and now building his own home right next door checks all his boxes. Only one thing is missing, but that dream walked out the door a long time ago.

Still, his life is good, steady…and perhaps a little boring.

That quickly changes when the rescue of a young, teenage girl, places the new sheriff’s detective squarely in his path. He’s not bored now, doing his best to keep her safe, even as their past holds them back while they fight for a future.

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

I loved the original HMT series so was delighted when Freya announced she was writing ‘the next generation’ books!!

We met Dan & Sloane in the original series. At that point Dan was dealing with a lot of issues around caring for his mum, proving his worth at the ranch and in all honesty, he had enough on his plate never mind having time for someone else..
Sloane at this same point was trying to work out who she was and what she wanted to do with her life.
There was an obvious attraction but we never knew what exactly, if anything, happened between them.

Fast forward a few years and Sloane has returned ‘home’, living in a cabin on the ranch and starting a new job. Dan is now a solid part of the HMT team and has definitely grown up.

This pair!! I loved them together. I especially liked Dan’s patience and perseverance.
Sloane was determined to move on with her life, given her most recent history with guys it was understandable that she was throwing off ‘not interested’ vibes when they met again.
Dan for his part knew what he wanted and realised he had a second chance right in front of him that he wasn’t missing again.

There was a lot of suspense and drama in the read which I enjoyed. The heat and passion between Sloane & Dan came off the page and I loved how he took care of her.

Catching up with the HMT OG’s and discovering who the new ‘young guns’ are was fun. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series and I’m so intrigued about the couple who are next up after the teasers Freya gave us!!!

If you’ve read the original HMT series you’re gonna love this but if you haven’t, this new series is a great place to start!

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

I read these books prior to the Collection being put together. ~ T xx

Keeping 6

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Freya Barker‘s and have been since her very first book…. Her writing, characters, storylines, attention to detail and descriptions of the story locations all combine to give excellent reads with relatable leads.

Keeping 6 is the first book in the new Rock Point series (which I’ve been looking forward to since Ms B mentioned it!!) and for me was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

I love that the MCs are that little bit older, that they are flawed and, in the leading man’s case, possessive and protective from the get go. We had met Damian in previous books in another series and, while I wasn’t sure I was gonna be a fan of him from what we’d seen before, he definitely won me over in his own story!
I enjoy the strength, character, snark and sass of Freya’s ladies but for some reason it took me just a little to warm to Kerry – admittedly it wasn’t for long and I did get there (I still can’t quite put my finger on why it happened this time around), but it was an unusual feeling to say the least!!

Loads of action, heat, attraction, great supporting characters who I hope we meet again in the future, Keeping 6 was a great start to this new series and I’m looking forward to more from Ms B!!

If you haven’t already experienced the joy of reading a book by Freya, this is a good place to start though I’d recommend that you go back to the start and begin with the Cedar Tree series to fully appreciate the characters we meet and the setting of the story in Keeping 6.

A rock solid 4.5* read for me!

Cabin 12

!!! FLOVED IT !!!

The above was what I thought once I’d finished Cabin 12 and I’ve finally got round to writing my full review….. Real life has inconveniently interrupted my reading and blogging lately…… and talking of real life, I’m pretty sure I’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating… one of my favourite things about Freya Barker’s books is the realness of her characters and how I can get their life struggles, worries and issues!

I really loved Bella and Jasper together (ah, Jasper, le sigh, reminds me of another book ‘hero’ I absolutely adore….. Ms Barker did well with this character name!). They were in equal parts frustrating, funny, adorable and fabulous.

The intertwined story lines don’t start out real obvious and you have to think about where things are maybe going – which I love, as I don’t necessarily like or need an author to hand hold me through every event in their story!! The heat, affection, love and camaraderie/sense of family are excellent and the intimate scenes are scorching hot!

I’m excited about what’s coming next in this series… a few possibilities that I think I saw while reading …. but I’m gonna keep my thoughts and patiently wait and see if I got it right or not!

A definite must read, the Rock Point series is fast moving up my table of ‘favourite Freya reads’

5*

HWY 550

I finished this book with the biggest smile on my face!!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Freya Barker keeps raising the bar when it comes to her books….

I’ll be the first to admit that I found it hard to connect or understand Luna Roosberg when we’ve previously met her in the series. I could never quite put my finger on why I couldn’t get a handle on her but Ms B worked her magic as usual and pretty much from the outset of HWY 550 and Luna’s character totally won me round.
She’s tough and brusque on the outside but we soon discover that this hardshell covers a very different woman!

Ouray….man, what can I say about this guy!! He’s kinda brusque and tough himself but that’s a given seeing as he’s the president of an MC club, but he’s another one who has a completely different hidden centre, it’s just taken one particular woman to bring it to the fore (not that he lets everyone see the sweet, protective side of him that Luna releases – he has an image to protect after all!)

With a couple of interesting and complex storylines running through the story, there was plenty of action and characters, new and old, that all added to the fun and made for a fabulous read. Hot, steamy and a touch of sweet with a load of heart, Freya let us catch up with favourites from previous stories and teasingly introduces us to a possible couple for a future book in the series….. YAY!!

As well written as you would most definitely expect from FB, this was another excellent instalment in the La Plana County FBI ROCK POINT series and I cannot wait to see what happens next!

5*

10-CODE

Freya Barker is one of my favourite authors and in my opinion has only gotten better with each book that she’s written.

The fourth book in the Rock Point series is Dylan and Marya’s story and with a hard hitting and sadly, very realistic story arc, this was a great read and another hit in Ms B’s catalogue.

I love that her characters are older, with life experience, emotional baggage, health and emotional issues that can be related to most of the time.
Marya and Dylan were perfect for each other and their kids were a great addition to the story – and the easy acceptance of each of their families made for good reading.

10-Code was a sad reminder of just how awful people can be and how you can never judge a book by it’s cover – in more ways than one.
It was also a reminder of how the capacity to give and accept love can change and enhance your life in many ways.

Action, suspense, tons of heat and some seriously hot down and dirty times, along with catching up with some of our fave characters from previous books made this another smasher of a story and one I’d most definitely recommend.

She hides in plain sight, adapts, and infiltrates.

When Opal goes undercover in a youth center several teenagers have disappeared from, she’s shocked to find a ghost of her own traumatic past at the helm. However, her worry for the missing kids is greater than her concern being recognized and she risks her own safety to discover the truth.

To complicate matters, a familiar FBI agent shows up conducting his own investigation and almost blows the whistle on her. It takes some doing to convince him to join forces with her but as it turns out, they work well together.

In the course of uncovering an organized group of child molesters, they find themselves falling—for each other.

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

I’m a fan of Freya and her books but Edge of Nowhere was more than I expected.

Wapi and Lindsey made a great couple and I really liked their book. I particularly enjoyed that their story took place mainly away from their home ground and involved some well known faces that I definitely was not expecting to catch up with!!

Wapi had a fair amount of guilt and regrets that he piled on himself as he hadn’t been able to save Lindsey from previous harm.. so much so that he disappeared and stayed away for a few years. Once he came home and got his head on straight he showed how loyal and committed he could be and proved more than once that he was always gonna be there for Linds.

Lindsey, understandably, was leery about having much to do with Wapi given his lack of contact, disappearance and ‘sudden’ interest on his return. She was strong, resourceful and determined and showed these traits through her actions during the read.

This pair had a connection that Lindsey thought was going somewhere prior to Wapi taking off and this spark and attraction hadn’t dulled much in the time since. I loved seeing them in a different place, adjusting and adapting to what was going on around them and building their relationship.

There were a couple of different threads and a few surprises in the story and I’m hoping to catch up with some things in future books. My only wee quibble…… there was a big surprise that I would have loved to see a reaction to…. that aside, this was a fab, action packed, suspenseful read and another hit from Freya.

Excerpt:

“Where are you going?” I ask as she tries to slip past me to the stairs.

She turns to face me, pointing at a spot on her blouse, but my eyes get hung up on the peek of cleavage the generous V allows.

“Nice. You look great.”

She does. The boots, the worn jeans, the flowy top, and the fuckable hairdo. She looks hot.

“Excuse me, that’s not where I’m pointing,” she schools me. “I need to put some water on this, you made me spill my taco,” she clarifies.

“I did?”

Seems like a bit of a stretch, given that I was here and she was sitting all the way over there, but I like the sound of putting water on her blouse. It’ll only improve the view.

“You startled me. What are you doing here anyway?” she asks, narrowing her eyes on me.

I lean my hip against the railing and cross my arms, smirking at her.

“Watching the rodeo, like everyone else.”

She crosses her own arms and grins back. “Let me guess, this was a last-minute decision?”

Her eyes sparkle, drawing me in.

“Maybe,” I concede, taking a step closer.

“It wouldn’t have anything to do with me being here, would it?” she probes.

“It’s a distinct possibility.”

I take another step until I’m flush against her. Then, with the tip of my finger, I lift her chin and take her mouth. It’s so damn easy to get lost in this woman, I almost forget where I am until a couple of whistles go up behind me.

Then someone yells, “Not the kind of bucking I thought I was in for tonight. Sit the hell down or get a damn room!”

Releasing Lindsey, I snap my head around to pinpoint the smart-ass. Instead, I catch sight of Booger and the other two I decided to bring, snickering in their seats. So I shoot them a glare instead.

At that moment Lindsey makes her escape, darting down the stairs. I point a finger at the boys. “Do not move.” Then I take off after her.

I just catch sight of her slipping into the bathrooms and resign myself to wait outside. I lean my back against the wall and get comfortable, but I don’t have to wait that long before she reappears. She tries to hide a smile when she catches sight of me pushing off from the wall.

“You know, I could probably find my own way back.”

“I’m aware,” I tell her, touching the wet spot on her shirt before lifting my hands to her face. “But I just needed another taste without the audience.”

I keep the kiss short and sweet. An appetizer for later.

“I’ll come by after.”

She tilts her head. “I’m sorry, I must have missed the question in there.” Then she glances past me toward the rodeo arena. “And you’re making me miss the cowboys.”

“F*ck the cowboys,” I grumble, giving her hair a little tug. “If I show up later, will you be home?”

“Probably. Unless I get a better offer,” she teases, before brushing past me toward the stairs.

“You’d better be,” I call after her. “Or I’ll come looking for you.”

At the base of the stairs, she looks back, a smirk on her face.

“Yippee ki-yay.”

Praise for the novel

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

I’ve been looking forward to Onyx’s book since book one of the GEM series.

We didn’t know a lot about Raj and she really intrigued me….. almost as much as Jacob.

Both their history was complicated and their stories were heart hurting. People who are supposed to care for you but who cause you the worst kind of pain, they both suffered from some unspeakable and unthinkable experiences.

There were so many secrets and disclosures in this read. Some I sorta had worked out and a few others which were complete surprises. I loved how the team came together and worked to get to the heart of the case they’ve been with on since the start of the series.

Well written as ever, this was another fabulous offering from Freya and was action packed, full of intrigue and heat. While I’m sad this series is complete, I cannot wait for what’s to come next from Ms B.

I think one of the saddest and most harrowing things with this story is that though Ms Barker has written it as fiction, all you have to do is look at the news IRL and see awful reports about similar things like this…. which inexplicably includes the same kind of people that Freya has as characters in Onyx’s story.

I would encourage you to grab your copy of the books in this series and discover what the GEM team are all about….
