Blake Moreno doesn’t do relationships, ever.
With more money than he knows what to do with and his pick of beautiful women, he has no plans of becoming tied down.

Hadley Jacobs doesn’t have time for dating.
With plans to finish culinary school and to own her own bakery, she has her life all mapped out.

Blake thinks Hadley is infuriating…

Hadley thinks Blake is controlling…

Both couldn’t be more wrong.

When life throws them a curve ball, they have no choice but to catch it and to prove that in the end, love wins. Every. Time.

The minute I stepped into the bar, I spotted them. Hadley’s back was to me and, from where I was standing, it looked as if Belinda and Patrice were blocking her exit. Fucking hell. Since when were Belinda and Patrice friends? And where was Wayne? I started toward them. Bits and pieces of their conversation filtered in as I got closer.

“I’m sorry I took your friend’s job. I wasn’t aware the position had been offered to her,” Hadley told Belinda. “And I’m sorry that my piano playing skills were subpar, however, being that I’m a chef, this shouldn’t surprise you,” she directed at Patrice.

“I know why you’re here. I overheard Zane talking to Cathryn about it. You might be carrying Blake’s brat in your belly but take it from me when I say he isn’t going to take well to being trapped,” Patrice declared, right as I stepped up behind Hadley. Both Patrice and Belinda’s eyes jerked to me and bulged in surprise, but being that Hadley’s back was to me, she wasn’t aware of my presence.

“You’ve got me!” Hadley said, her tone laced with contempt and sarcasm. “Wow, you two are a regular Cagney and Lacey. Tell me, how did you figure it out? Because, really, I planned it so carefully.” Neither woman said a word. They just stood there staring at me. I, however, was highly entertained. Folding my arms over my chest, I waited to see what Hadley would say next. She didn’t disappoint.

“You know what this is about don’t you?” she whispered in a conspiratorial tone. “Blake thinks it’s about the baby, but it’s really about the money. I hear he’s loaded.” I silently chuckled when she expelled a wistful sounding sigh and followed it with, “I’ve always dreamed of being rich.” Both women jumped when she threw up her hands, and shouted, “Yep! Just call me gold digger!” On that note, she then turned to leave. A strangled shriek escaped when she smacked right into me. As she pressed her hands to my chest in order to keep from toppling over, the warmth of her touch seared through me.

“Blake!” she gasped, clearly shocked to find me standing there.

Before Hadley did something else, such as call Patrice Patsy again or refer to Belinda as Boobzilla—something I’d heard both she and Wayne do on more than one occasion—I reached for her hand. Ignoring Patrice and Belinda, who were still busy gawking at us, I said, “Come on, Gold Digger, we’re going to be late for our appointment,” and pulled her in the direction of the door. Right as we breached the threshold, I glanced back over my shoulder and gave the two vipers a look of warning, letting them know that we would be discussing this incident later.

“I didn’t see you standing there,” Hadley muttered, as we made our way toward the front of the hotel.

“Clearly,” I mused, while trying not to laugh at the scene I’d just witnessed. When she let out a disgusted sounding huff, I lost the battle and let the laughter roll. She responded with another huff and a face scrunch, and I thought, this woman is something else.

Peter Parker Penn.

Unlike the superhero his mother named him after, Parker is no good guy.

In fact, if there’s a picture in the dictionary under anti-hero, it’s his.

Parker’s spent his life trying to get back on the right side of the tracks, but each step he takes forward, he takes two more steps back.

To save one, he hurts others. To make this good, he turns that bad.

For appearances’ sake, he plays the part. He does what people expect him to do—mostly. And at the end of each day, he goes back to his lonely apartment and wishes he was a different person. One who could fix the things he’s broken.

Then Kayla Nash forces her way into his life, and the world as he knows it is irrevocably changed.

Everything he thinks he has right is wrong. And everything he thinks is wrong is oh, so right.

One thing leads to another, and suddenly he’s growing a conscience, and trying to prove to her that he’s as bad as everybody says he is.

Yet she won’t listen.

She’s convinced that she can save him.

Little does she know, Parker isn’t worth saving, and never will be.

It’s not a secret that I love Lani Lynn Vale‘s books and this is especially true of this latest series!!

Maybe Don’t Wanna was a fab read and a great addition to The Simple Man series.

I FLOVED Parker & Kayla. Parker hadn’t been the best of people growing up…. in with the wrong crowd, caught up in gang crime, he was on his way to a life in jail until he had a chance to turn his life around and that’s just what he did. He was his own worst critic and most others around him didn’t bother to find out more than what they thought they knew!!

Kayla had no filter, talked a mile a minute and was forever asking questions but she also had a big heart, was loyal to a fault and saw who Parker really was!!

Peter Parker Penn was actually a good guy and I’m glad that Kayla entered his life and opened his own eyes to just who he was!

There was an interesting side story that kinda involved our couple but didn’t overwhelm their story. Kinda Don’t Wanna was slightly different from other reads of LLVs I thought in so much that, although we came across a few of our favourite characters while reading, the majority of the book was about PPP and Kayla and their evolving relationship. They were very similar in some ways and both brought out the best in the other.

Their connection was intense, they were smoking hot together and their conversations had me laughing at points.
Along with a little suspense, a fabulous ex-service dog in Carmen and a great epilogue, KDW was an easy, entertaining and fun read – I hardly put my kindle down as I was hooked by this pair.

Book 2 in this series gets a solid 4.5* rating from me!!

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 9, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

“Weather the Storm is a heady blend of sweet, steamy and emotional with a dash of suspense. Readers’ hearts will ache for Magnolia while simultaneously cheering for her. She’s escaped an abusive marriage and is getting back on her feet and finding her confidence again. Simon is swoony; he’s a all around GOOD guy. He falls hard for Magnolia, and he’s perfectly patient with her as she heals from trauma. Farlow handles emotional and physical abuse with the appropriate seriousness while also delivering a compelling and beautiful romance.” – Mary at USAT’s HEA

“Weather the Storm is everything you can hope for in a book, and more. It has the sweet, southern charm we’ve come to expect from an LK Farlow story, but with an edge of suspense as you wait to find out how Magnolia and Simon’s story is going to play out.” – Megan Green, author of The Off-Season

“No one does sweet southern romance like LK Farlow. Weather the Storm is about so much more than a love story. Simon’s protectiveness and Magnolia’s strength sucked me in from the beginning.” – Jennifer Van Wyk, author of Feels Like Home

“I highly recommend this book–definitely one of my top reads of 2018 and Mrs. Farlow’s best work yet!” – Lo Brynolf, author of Bashful

Magnolia Ellington is all too aware that dangerous things can come in shiny packages. Her husband made sure to teach her that.

Desperate to escape his wrath—and his fists—she flees in the dark of night. Seeking safety and shelter with the only family she has left, Magnolia finds herself in the sleepy, Southern town of Dogwood—and in the arms of Simon McAllister.

Simon has always been more of a thinker than a doer. That changes the minute he meets shy and mysterious Magnolia. She has him rushing into action, ready and willing to do whatever it takes to earn her trust.

Slowly, with his steadfast determination and kind heart, Simon brings Magnolia out of her shell. But just as things start heating up between the two of them, the darkness of Magnolia’s past resurfaces, threatening to rip apart everything they’ve worked so hard for.

With their future hanging in the balance, Simon fears he’s losing Magnolia. Now, he must convince her that, together, they can weather the storm.

Magnolia launches herself at me, kissing me all over—my face, my chest, everywhere. “Slow down, pretty girl. We have time.”

“I’m just s-so happy, Simon.”

“I am too, believe me, but we need to get ready at some point so we can go down and talk to Mateo about your car.”

She deflates a little at the mention of it. Luckily, I know just the way to perk her back up. “Let’s get showered?”

“T-together?” she asks, her cheeks going rosy.

“I was hopin’.” I keep my tone light, not wanting her to feel pressured.

Wordlessly, Magnolia rises from the bed and drags the shirt she’s wearing over her head, dropping it at her feet.

“Swear to God, Goldilocks, I’ll never get tired of lookin’ at you.”

She bites her lip, though not because she’s nervous. Nah, my girl’s turned the hell on, and I very much intend to do something about it.

I scoot to the edge of the bed and pull her toward me so she’s standing between my legs. I place a kiss to her right hip, and then to her left, my eyes never leaving hers. Magnolia sighs in pleasure at the contact. I skim my nose across the expanse of smooth, tan skin between her hips until I’m just below her belly button. I press an open-mouthed kiss to her soft yet toned stomach, nipping lightly as I pull away.

“C’mon, let’s go get dirty so we can get clean.” I say the words as a joke, but when I look back up at Magnolia, her eyes are glazed over with want and need.

Grabbing her hand, I guide her to the shower. Once the water feels just right, I help her over the ledge of the tub, climbing in right behind her. Under the spray of the hot water, I make good on my promise of getting us dirty, using my hands and my mouth to make her feel so damn good, her bones feel like jelly.

Even though she’s spent, my girl offers to return the favor, but I decline. It’s not because I don’t want her, because shit, I do. Rather, I want her to know she’s worth more to me than her body. I want her to know she always comes first, literally and figuratively.

Bookstore owner Kerry Emerson finally seems to be back in control of her life. Her failure of a marriage firmly in her rearview mirror and her recent business expansion a success, she is in charge of her own future. One that is looking better than ever.

The sight of the tall man, with the familiar salt and pepper goatee pushing open the door of her store, sets her hair on end. He doesn’t exactly bring good memories.

FBI Special Agent in Charge, Damian Gomez, is just looking for a decent cup of coffee when he walks into the small store offering books and brew. The pretty, feisty woman behind the counter is an unexpected surprise. Not at all unpleasant, especially since her finger that used to hold a wedding ring is now bare.

Her wild hair, boho style and silvery grey eyes suddenly hold a lot of promise. But when his office is pulled into an international investigation into the trafficking of rare books and manuscripts, the straight-laced SAC realizes he has to keep his distance from the woman who might well be involved.

Easier said than done, since fate seems determined to throw them together.

Damian

“You?”

My head whips around at the sound of a woman’s voice.

It’s been a long-ass morning already with meetings I would’ve loved to have avoided. Since being put in charge of the Durango field office, it seems I spend more time in meetings than working in the field. I swear each week there are new task forces put together, and I can barely keep up. I stepped out of the office for a much-needed break to find that the coffee shop around the corner had a sign plastered on the door stating they were closed due to a family emergency. Desperate for my caffeine fix, I kept walking and bumped into Kerry’s Korner: Books & Brew. Something about the name is familiar. I push the door, which opens with the ring of a bell, when I hear her voice.

She’s pretty. The woman behind the counter looks like a seventies flower child, with wild, dirty blonde hair, some kind of flowy top leaving her collarbones and a goodly amount of cleavage exposed, and a pixie face. Something about her is familiar, and it appears she knows me, too. Fuck if I can’t place her.

“Got me at a disadvantage, sweets,” I tell her with a shrug.

“You’re FBI,” she says, propping her hands on her nicely rounded hips. “I remember you.”

I look at her a little closer. Not a hardship, there’s a lot to check out. Those pale gray eyes trigger a memory. “You’re Kimeo’s girl,” I say, remembering the case a few years ago when I first saw her for the briefest of moments. A case long since put to rest, but not before this woman was snatched and roughed up before we got to her. We’d been called in by Gus Flemming, a friend of mine who owns an investigation and security company in Cedar Tree. Kimeo, the wife of one of Gus’s guys, found herself in the middle of shady land deals and this woman, her best friend, had been kidnapped to ensure her silence. I may not have remembered her name until I saw her standing behind the counter of Kerry’s Korner, but I sure as hell remember her. I also remember the wedding ring on her finger, which is why I didn’t bother looking twice at the time.

The hands resting on her hips no longer sport that wedding ring, just a large knuckle ring on the middle finger of her left hand as a sort of fuck you to the world. I bet she flips that bird easily, judging by the attitude she throws off. I like it.

“Kerry,” she says, almost as a challenge.

“Right. You look better now,” I tell her, making her snort loudly.

“No shit. I’d just been used as a punching bag when you found me and shoved me into the back of a van without a word.” Yup, most definitely a challenge. She doesn’t like me much, I deduct from the slightly distasteful look on her face.

“Was a little preoccupied with my investigation. Sorry if I didn’t take the time to make nice.” Fuck me, I sound like a dick. Something about her attitude grates on me, especially when she rolls her eyes dramatically before placing her hands on the counter in front of her and leaning over.

“Damian. Right?” She doesn’t wait for my confirmation before she continues, “Well, Damian, what brings you to my bookstore?”

“Coffee. Straight up,” I tell her without blinking. She turns her back without a word and starts fiddling with the expensive-looking machine on the sideboard, and I take the opportunity to check out her backside. “Double shot?” she asks over her shoulder, catching me ogling.

“Good guess.” I smile at her, which only earns me another eye roll. Attitude in spades, this one. As much as it irritates me, it somehow turns me on, too.

She’s late thirties, maybe forty, if I had to venture a guess from the lines around her eyes. She obviously laughs a lot—something I wouldn’t mind hearing. I have a feeling with that slightly raspy voice of hers, her laugh will sound even sexier. She’s not wearing a stitch of makeup from what I can tell and seems totally at ease in her skin. Not usually the kind of woman I find myself drawn to, but this one has an appeal all her own. Most women I end up with are well put together: stacked, sweet, and sultry. Just the way I like them. This one, though? This one is like the fucking girl next door. Fresh-faced, with a hippy vibe, barely enough tit to fill my hands, but an ass that should be framed, it’s that lush. Always considered myself a boob man, until I just got an eyeful of her backside.

While she doctors the elaborate coffee machine, I take the time to check out her shop. An older building, it has an old-fashioned facade with shallow bay windows, displaying an assortment of books, framing the door. Old wood floors that have been left bare to the wear and tear of foot traffic, resulting in a well-worn look more suited to an old saloon. Rows of rugged bookcases, jutting out from the back wall, with chalkboard display signs indicating the different genres. The counter is on one side in front of the window and on the opposite side, in front of the second bay window, is a small seating arrangement with an old, brown leather couch and two club chairs around a small, round coffee table. On the counter is a large, round, glass cake stand with pastries.

“Here you go. Anything else with that? A pastry to sweeten you up a bit or perhaps a book on appropriate social behavior? I have both.” I can’t stop the smirk tugging at my mouth. This one’s a handful, for sure. Too much of one. I pull out my wallet and slap a couple of dollar bills on the counter.

“Nah,” I drawl. “Not the kind of sweet I’m looking for, and as for the book, I’ll just wait until you get done with it. You’re probably due for a reread.” I snag my coffee off the counter, and with a wink, I saunter out the door, leaving her standing with her mouth hanging open and fire shooting from those pretty gray eyes.

I jolt awake, momentarily disoriented by the rhythmic beeping coming from my right. Beep. Beep. Beep. Again and again, the sound causes my temples to throb. Even though my eyes are still pinched closed, I know this is not my room, and I am not in my bed. Without warning, the events that led me here flash through my mind: hitting Simon’s truck and the subsequent ambulance ride. I remember the CT scan, and being given pain medication. I must have fallen asleep shortly after that.

I inhale deeply, trying to get my bearings, and cringe at the smell of antiseptic hanging in the air. God, I hate hospitals.

Slowly, I try to blink my eyes open, only to immediately close them again. Whimpering at the brightness of the room, I sink farther into the small, firm mattress before steeling my resolve to try again.

I peel one lid open and hold it, adjusting, before peeling the other open as well. “So bright,” I whine to myself, squinting up at the light above me. My head feels like an entire drumline has taken it as their practice space; the thrumming and pounding is incessant.

With all the strength I can muster, I roll my head to face the far wall of the small hospital room, only to startle at the sight of the most gorgeous man I’ve ever laid eyes on sleeping in the chair in the corner, his light-brown hair messy, his chiseled jaw covered in stubble. “S-Simon?” I whisper, more to myself than to him.

All the same, he jolts like someone took a live wire to his skin. “You’re up?” He lunges from the chair toward me, gently taking my hand in his, scanning my body before bringing his deep-blue eyes to mine. “Are you—fuck, you have no idea how happy I am to see those baby-blue eyes right now. Let me call for your doctor.”

He starts to withdraw his hand from mine, and I let out the most pathetic whimper, halting him. “Don’t go,” I beg.

“Not going anywhere. Just gonna hit the call button,” he assures me, leaving me feeling foolish, even though that wasn’t his intention.

Detective Ryan Winslet is a by-the-book kind of girl. The one and only time she allowed her personal feelings to cloud her judgement, the results were devastating. Now she’s getting a chance to make things right, but a certain sexy nightclub owner is muddying the waters.

Tiberius Maximus isn’t the first Aequorian prince to be exiled to Earth. Like his ancestors, he came, he saw, and he conquered. He’s vanquished his enemies, gained a fiercely loyal family, and runs an incredibly successful nightclub that might push a few legal human boundaries. The only thing he doesn’t have is the life mate he so desperately craves – until a salty blonde saunters into his club one night.

When the no-nonsense detective meets the exiled prince, their chemistry is off the intergalactic charts. Tiberius is convinced she’s the one for him, but Ryan’s not taking the bait. Sure, he’s über hot and seems like a great catch, but he’s also involved in some fishy business and thinks he’s from another planet.

Should she follow her head and throw him back?
Or follow her instincts… and her heart… and jump into the deep end?

Tiberius sat back and sipped his drink, content to observe. It was amusing to watch the females compete for Donny’s attention. They flirted openly, made lewd suggestions, and sometimes even managed to grope him when he got too close. None of them realized, apparently, that Donny was in a happy, committed relationship with Jay. Donny’s flirtatious behavior was nothing more than his natural, outgoing joie de vivre. The eager females would receive nothing more than a friendly smile and excellent service in exchange for their generous tips, for it was only Jay he sought out at the end of every shift.

Tiberius was in the process of raising the glass to his lips when a voice cut through the din and rang like a crystal bell in his head. “Thanks, but no thanks. And just so you know, I’m a cop and she’s my best friend. If you so much as hurt her feelings, I will be back here, and not for a social call, get me?”

The voice set his nerves and loins tingling. He scanned the crowd, searching for the source.

“Everyone should have such fierce friends. She is in good hands with me, I assure you.” That was from Quintus.
“She’d better be.”

Tiberius stood, his heart thundering in his chest, his mind whirring at tornadic speed. There! He spotted Quintus first, tall and dark, his head bobbing above the majority of shorter humans as he moved away. And there, where he had been, a golden-haired female swathed in blue.
As if drawn by an unseen force, he moved toward her. A fierce, possessive need washed over him. He needed to get her away from the lascivious interests of the worked-up crowd.
Never before had he had such an instant and all-consuming reaction to the mere sight of a woman, in this realm or any other. Dare he hope that his prayers had been answered?
The odds were astronomical, yet his soul cared not. Neither chance nor logic entered into the equation. If the gods had decided to bless him with a mate, then they would also ensure their paths crossed at a location and timing of their choosing. Why not here? Why not now?

He stopped only a short distance away. She was looking in the other direction.
He took a moment to rake his eyes over her. Loose waves of golden silk cascaded over curves that made his mouth water. She was smaller than he had originally thought, barely reaching his neck, even in heels.
As if sensing his presence, she turned. Big, blue-green eyes, the perfect color of an Aequorian sea, widened as her gaze rose upward. He couldn’t help feeling pleased when her skin flushed a lovely shade of pink and her lips parted slightly. With his superior senses, he could hear her heart speed up and feel the heat radiating from her body.

“Oh,” she said.

Oh, indeed.

They stared at each other for a long moment, until the spell was broken when an overexuberant patron plowed into her back, pushing her forward, right into Tiberius’s waiting arms.

Energy coursed through his body, firing every nerve and lighting him up from the inside out.

“I’m so sorry,” she said, righting herself.

He wasn’t. It took every ounce of discipline he possessed not to pull her right back into his embrace.
When another surge of the crowd threatened, he placed his hand on her lower back and firmly but gently guided her out of harm’s way. “May I purchase a beverage for you?”
She blinked then shook her head slightly as if to clear it. “Thank you, but no. I was just leaving.”

Leaving? No, he couldn’t allow that. Not until he knew more about her and this inexplicable pull she seemed to have on him.

“Unacceptable.”

“Why unacceptable?”

“Because I have only just found you.”
“Does that line usually work?”

“I do not know. You are the first woman to whom I have spoken those words.”

Her eyes softened, then she cleared her throat. “Oh, you’re good.”
He grinned. “Does that mean it is working?”
She laughed, the sound filling his chest with light. “Kind of, yeah. But I really was just leaving. This”—she waved her hand around her—“isn’t really for me.”
“Then perhaps you will allow me to suggest a quieter venue, one where we may talk and get to know each other. There is a small eatery just down the street. I have been told it is quite good.”

She considered him for a moment then nodded. “Yeah, okay. Why not?”

Close Encounters of the Sexy Kind was a really great, fun read from Jessie Lane & Abbie Zanders

I loved Tiberius and Ryan and together they made quite a couple. I have to admit, reading this book reminded me of why I love sci-fi and paranormal reads….. they can have elements of everyday life but then that added extra ‘out of the ordinary’ takes the book to a different level!

I liked the supporting cast of characters and the way that they were a family of choice. I’m hoping we might get a book about Quintas (and I’m hoping that there really is something between him and Betty!)

Well written, laugh out loud funny, with an action-packed and interesting storyline, I would most definitely recommend you pick up this fab book and settle in for a fun read!

I’m giving CEotSK 5 sexy stars!!

Coke Solomon has lived a full life.

He’s a retired army drill sergeant, so he is more than used to getting his way.

And if he can’t have it his way? Well, let’s just say that’s never happened before…

At least not until Cora Maldonado walks into his life, demanding he fall in line, or she’ll find a way to make his life hell.

He finds out fast that Cora marches to the beat of her own drum, and a lot of times that drum takes her farther away rather than closer to where he feels she needs to be.

He can’t stand it.

He wants her, and he has to have her.

It doesn’t matter that she’s twenty years younger than him, and has a father that would rather see him dead than have his baby girl anywhere near him. Nor does it matter that his ex-wife is highly offended that she’s been replaced with a much younger woman.

Despite the odds stacking against them, he’ll fight for what he wants.

His ex-wife, her father, and their age difference be damned.
