Posted by Book Loving Pixies
Fair Trade new cover
“When you’re at the top, the only way to go is down.”
Corporate VP Joanna Barnes is condescending, domineering and micromanaging. She belittles and insults the workers beneath her. In other words, she’s a bitch.
Her behavior at her industry’s trade show is no different. Her poor intern, Steve, has been on the receiving end of her verbal abuse all day. But, when the two of them get behind closed doors in the hotel room… it will be Steve’s turn to call the shots, as he literally brings the curvy executive to her knees…
Fair Trade is a tale of role reversal. Curvy VP Joanna is loathed and despised by all of her subordinates. Steve, however, knows how to handle a woman like Joanna, and it will be a ride she’ll never forget…

Review
Joanna is the boss from hell; Steve is her trainee who can do nothing right, and she lets him know about it at every opportunity. We’re introduced to both characters at their company’s trade show, where they’re working a display booth together. We cringe as Joanna lays into her intern repeatedly, referring to him sarcastically as “genius” and reminding him that he “doesn’t get paid to think.” At this point, we ask ourselves why he doesn’t just give his notice.
The answer comes in the main part of the story, and Cross doesn’t waste time in getting us there. The two are lovers, but with a twist: it’s complete and total role reversal. A half hour after taking a brutal verbal beating from Joanna in public, she’s blindfolded outside his hotel room door, begging for sex. Perhaps seeking payback for her earlier abuse, he makes her describe the purpose of her visit in explicit detail, even while other hotel patrons pass in the hallway. (She gets groped by strangers a couple of times, but no serious action here.) When he finally grants her admittance to his room, she’s made to crawl to him on her hands and knees. He even strips her of her right to speak of herself in the first person tense. Instead, Joanna is made to refer to herself with such colloquial titles as “this skank” and “your whore.” Steve lays it on thick as well, labeling his boss with the filthiest, most degrading names imaginable.
Delightfully, he even speaks to her in the same verbiage which she used to berate him: when she says that she entered the hotel room because she thought it was what he wanted, he informs her that she “doesn’t get paid to think.”
This story is packed with action, but it’s not novel-length. Dylan Cross moves the story along well, and doesn’t bog it down with needless details. We’re never told what the company’s actual niche is; nor is it relevant to the story. The physical descriptions of the main characters are also largely left to our imagination. Steve the trainee is in his early twenties and is well-endowed, but we’re not inundated with descriptions of “rippling abs” or “steely, penetrating blue eyes.” In fact, Joanna is blindfolded for a good portion of the scene, and the entire story is told from her perspective.
We’re given a little more detail about her: a dyed blonde with a large chest, fifteen years older than her trainee and a very full figure which she’s uncomfortable about. In fact, in this reader’s opinion, this is what sets the story apart from other “raunchy reads.”
Rather than giving Joanna a stripper or gymnast’s body, Cross instead elected to write her as a real-life woman, and it’s what makes the story work: like thousands of women who aren’t a size 2, Joanna is dealing with tremendous insecurity about her physical appearance.
However, as is often the case, others around her have no problem with the way she looks, and accept her as she is. This includes a number of observers and voyeurs, as well as Steve himself. Ostensibly, he could have someone his own age, but instead pursues an affair with his much-older boss. The various sex games he plays with her, while seemingly centered on humiliation and degradation, actually end up serving the opposite purpose: demonstrating to Joanna that she is a very sexy and desirable woman.
Compared to Dylan Cross’ other work, this storyline is more refined. The sex is consensual. At one point, Joanna balks and wants to end the affair, but her lover won’t let her and instead sets her straight. There’s spanking and whipping, but it doesn’t overshadow the story.
The name-calling is the piece which is most likely to turn certain readers off: it gets pretty vulgar. However, it’s obvious that it’s part of the play; it’s also understood by both parties that, if the intern were to employ such degrading talk anywhere other than the bedroom, he’d immediately find himself unemployed.
This story is a recommended read. A word of caution, however: if you have a tyrannical “boss from hell,” chances are you’ll never look at her in the same way again!

Here’s more about Marked by an Assassin, including an excerpt from this paranormal romance novel.
A snow leopard shifter exiled from his pride twenty years ago, Harbin treads the dark path of life as an assassin, driven by a hunger for vengeance, mercilessly hunting the Archangel members who attacked his kin, murdering his mother and sister.
When a new contract comes in and the mark is a snow leopard shifter, he can’t resist venturing into the mortal world on a personal mission to find out why one from a normally peaceful species now has a price on their head. What he finds in a rundown nightclub isn’t quite what he expects—a beautiful snow leopard female that awakens a fierce hunger inside him.
Aya has spent seventeen years living in London, immersed in the underbelly of the fae world, keeping her head down and her tail out of trouble. But when trouble walks right into her life in the form of a sinfully handsome, dangerous assassin, she is pulled into a whirlwind of events that stir up the nightmares of her past but might just give her a shot at putting those ghosts to rest—if she can resist the dark allure of a male she knows is her fated mate.
Can Harbin and Aya resist the passionate fire that blazes between them as they chase the vengeance they both crave? Or will they surrender to their deepest desires?
Marked by an Assassin is available from Amazon Kindle, Kobo Books, Barnes and Noble Nook, Apple iBooks stores and other retailers. Also available in paperback. Find the links to your preferred retailer here:
Excerpt
His leather boots were loud on the polished black stone floor that reflected warm torchlight up at him, a clunk and a scrape as he trudged along the broad arched corridor of the main entrance of the guild, heading towards the first reception room. He adjusted his grip on the black pack slung over his good shoulder and stifled another grimace as he dragged his injured left leg in line with his right and braved another step. Fiery pain bolted up the limb from a point just above his ankle, shooting through his entire body.
Harbin growled under his breath, grinding his teeth together as he bore the pain and forced himself to keep moving. He could rest soon. He could sleep for days and forget his injuries and the fight that had brought him dancing too close to death.
Again.
But, fuck, it had been a good fight. It had been worth it. The pain. The taste of blood on his tongue. The sharp crack of bones breaking beneath his fists and the metallic tang flooding the air as his claws rendered flesh. A judder went through him, a brief flare of pleasure that wracked his tired and battered body. It had been worth it, for that momentary and elusive sense of calm and belonging, of retribution and release, and the one thing he craved above all others. The one thing that fuelled him, drove him to keep striding forwards, stopping him from looking back, and that he did his best to pretend didn’t exist inside him like an eternal bloody flame.
Penance.
Penitence.
Harbin pushed away from those two words. They had no place inside him. They were impossible for him to achieve, the one thing beyond his grasp, forever just out of reach. His sins were too great. Atonement was nothing more than a dream.
Or maybe a nightmare.
One that haunted him despite his best efforts to escape it.
Voices rang along the black walled corridor towards him and he ignored them, not interested in the idle banter of the rest of the guild males as they took a welcomed breather from their profession in the safety of their home. He was only interested in taking a breather himself. A long one. Maybe those days might roll into a week of sleep.
He sighed at the thought.
His broken body probably needed that much rest in order to recuperate swiftly, and gods knew his mind needed that amount of time to pull itself back together. Unlike some members of the guild, he didn’t have the advantage of being able to accelerate his healing process. The elves were lucky sons of bitches.
Although, you couldn’t pay Harbin enough to make him switch places with Fuery. The male’s eyes were verging on black now, only a sliver of violet remaining around his pupils like a dying corona of the light in him. How long before Fuery lost himself to the darkness?
Hartt, the chief and founder of their guild, often wore a look when he was watching Fuery, one that told Harbin that the elf knew their comrade was circling the drain and it was only a matter of time before the darkness consumed the last of him and transformed him into something straight out of a nightmare.
Harbin dragged his bad leg up and managed another step, quickly shifting his right before his fractured tibia gave out under his weight. It was times like these, when he was fresh from what had felt like more of a war than a fight, but had emerged the victor against all odds, that he couldn’t help wondering just what colour his eyes would be if the darkness that lived within him could show in them just as it could with the elves.
Would they be darker than midnight?
Was he as close to falling into the abyss as Fuery was?
On days like today, he felt as if he was. Every inch of him hurt now as it sank in that he was home and his mission was done, but it wasn’t a physical pain. He could no longer feel the hot burn of his wounds. He could only feel the cold burn of the hollow inside of him, the scraped out chasm where his heart used to be.
Harbin idly rubbed his chest with his free hand, not feeling the pain as his left shoulder blazed, his healing skin rupturing again beneath his tight black t-shirt. Warm wetness bloomed there, soaking into the cloth before trickling down his biceps.
“You look like hell,” someone muttered as they passed him, heading towards the doors.
Harbin ignored them and kept moving forwards, determined to reach the sanctuary of his quarters and lock himself away for a week of uninterrupted sleep.
He finally stepped into the first reception room, an equally black affair that had always looked as cold and imposing to him as he supposed it was meant to be. Hartt had done a good job of creating the perfect image for their guild, building a black fortress in the middle of what had once been little more than a wasteland in the free realm of Hell. An entire town had sprung up around the guild, catering to those who were drawn to it, either as a client.
Or an assassin.
Harbin had visited other assassin guilds in Hell and none had the nightmarish quality of their home. He put half of their business down to pure aesthetics. People saw the guild and it matched the image in their head of what an assassin’s home should look like—cold, dark and dangerous—and they gave it their business. Hartt had been a clever son of a bitch when he had started the guild all those centuries ago. The elf certainly had a head for business.
One that matched his head for killing.
“Hartt’s seeing people about it now.”
Harbin glanced across at two young males where they lounged in the horseshoe of black velvet couches near the unlit monstrosity of a marble fireplace to his left. They were both new recruits as far as the other guild members were concerned, having only completed a few easy jobs for little pay.
The blond raked his fingers through his short hair and cracked a wide grin. “I might go for it.”
Harbin snorted at that at the same time as the young wolf male reclining near the blond.
“I’d pay double to see you go up against a shifter… and a cat no less. At least that Harbin guy isn’t around to hear about it.”
That stopped Harbin in his tracks and he frowned across at the two males, studying the brunet wolf to see if he was speaking the truth. A cat shifter?
He had turned towards them before he had even contemplated moving and was at the back of the couch where the wolf shifter lounged before he had even realised he had moved. He stared down at the pup and the male slowly lifted golden eyes to him, his expression falling slack and lips parting as he took him in.
Harbin couldn’t blame the kid for looking shocked at the sight of him. He rarely interacted with the other assassins, definitely never with the rookies, and he probably looked as if he had been dragged through the darkest reaches of Hell.
Which he had.
“Cat shifter?” he said and the male nodded dumbly. “Hartt has a job requiring the elimination of a cat shifter?”
The wolf gathered his wits and shot him a cocky smile, one that irritated Harbin because it said what the wolf wouldn’t. It asked whether he was hard of hearing or just plain crazy. He hadn’t lost his mind. Not yet anyway. He just wanted to be sure that he had heard things right, because in the close to twenty years that he had worked with Hartt as an assassin, there had never been a job involving a cat shifter.
The blond kid got off the other couch and quickly crossed to his friend, hunkering down beside him and bringing his mouth close to the wolf’s ear.
“What the hell are you doing? That’s Harbin… Hartt said not to mention it around him,” the blond whispered so low he practically mouthed the words, but Harbin’s sensitive ears picked them up.
Harbin narrowed his silver eyes on both males, his lips compressing into a thin line as he contemplated the only reason why Hartt would want to hand out the job before Harbin could hear about it.
The cat shifter was a snow leopard.
He growled, flashing short fangs at the males, and shoved away from the couches, limping quickly across the black floor towards the door in the corner of the room to his left that would lead him to Hartt’s office. He shoved it open, the slam of it hitting the black wall on the other side echoing around the room at his back and the corridor in front of him, and snarled as he picked up his pace. His left leg trembled under the strain but he gritted his teeth and pushed onwards, the fire burning up his blood keeping him going.
Someone had put a contract on a snow leopard shifter, one of his kind, and he wanted the details.
He wanted to know why Hartt wouldn’t give the job to him.
Silvery fur rippled over his forearms before he could stop it, a brief flash of his other form brought out by his agitation. He sucked down a breath and controlled it, his skin cooling as the fur disappeared.
It wasn’t as if he held any allegiance to his kin anymore. He had burned that bridge twenty years ago and there was no way in Hell of reconstructing the charred remains of it. The thought that Hartt believed he was incapable of dealing with a snow leopard shifter mark was insulting. He could be as methodical and removed from the situation as he always was. The rage that had consumed him in the aftermath of the event that had driven him from his pride had made sure of that. It had killed all of his softer emotions and only a hunger for bloodshed and death remained.
He passed several doors to other offices, his own included, his gaze locked on the black door at the end of the corridor ahead of him. If Hartt was in an interview, the assassin in question was about to get a rude interruption and shown the door in a not too friendly fashion.
Harbin slammed the flat of his left palm into the door and it flew open.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy
It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a paranormal junkie – I love the genre and Shifters in particular, so this installment of the Eternal Mates series was right up my street!!
I have a real love of the world that Felicity Heaton brings to life in this series. Her layering and world building makes it easy to picture in your mind the scenes in the book as they play out. There’s an overlap of other stories that can be found in each book, it’s subtle but ties together very nicely and gives you a ‘Oh yeah, that happened in xxxx’s story’ moment when you are reading. For me, this continuity and the consistent timelines that Felicity threads through the books all add to the story arc.
Marked by an Assassin is Harbin and Aya’s book. Both are snow leopards living far from their homeland but they have a connection – in more ways than one!!
The Assassins Guild that Harbin works for has been hired to hunt down and kill a snow leopard, a task that our hero makes sure he gets to take on as he is intrigued as to what the shifter has done to warrant the hit. At first, he doesn’t recognise Aya as one of his pride as he’s been gone from his village for two decades after being used and duped by an Archangel huntress. He has become hardened and cold since the events all those years ago and is determined that he will carry out his job and it’ll be nothing more than another assignment, even though the mark is another snow leopard, but when he encounters the female things don’t go quite to plan.
Aya lives in London, keeping her head down and flitting among the fae, and has done since not long after the night the Archangel team decimated her village and killed their kin. She seems to be a mark in this game but as things progress Harbin stats to wonder, is she as innocent as she seems or is there more going on that at first glance?
The story is action packed as you’d expect from Ms Heaton. There are secrets and lies, betrayals, a deep need for revenge on both their parts but is it for the right reasons? The connection and chemistry between our leads is obvious pretty much from the start though it takes one of them a little longer to realise what’s going on and when the penny finally drops they have to make some tough choices and decide what they should do for the best.
We meet up again with some of the characters we have already been introduced to in the series so far and get a glimpse into one or two characters who I’m hoping will have their own stories to tell in the future! 😉
Another great read and addition to the Eternal Mates series. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!
For me it’s a 5* read!

RELEASE BLITZ ~ Hell’s Geek (Welcome to Hell #5) by Eve Langlais
Posted by Book Loving Pixies
Title: Hell’s Geek
Series: #5 Welcome to Hell
Author: Eve Langlais
Blurb:
“Blowing up volcanoes and starting wars pales in comparison to making hearts explode and encouraging sinful, fleshly delights.” Lucifer’s candid one on one interview with HNN.
Big deal, so he kept losing the oar. It wasn’t Adexios fault the Styx monsters were working against him, but tell that to his dad. Charon is determined to make a man out of him—whether his mother likes it or not—and Lucifer has offered to help. Help means sending Adexios in to the wilds of Hell with an Amazon warrior as his companion.
The savage fighter doesn’t know what to think of her geeky partner. Adexios attracts Valaska with his brains instead of brawn. He also shows a cunning courage she can’t help but respect.
They’ll need all the skills they can muster, though, if they’re going to prevail against the newest threat to Hell. With the wilds submerged by seawater, and monsters hungry for flesh, they’ll have to fight to stay alive, and learn opposites not only attract, they explode. (With passion, not guts, in case that wasn’t clear.)
Welcome to the pit where the danger is never ending, the sea monsters are multiplying, and Lucifer is planning the wedding from Hell.
“Love is but a game and I control the pieces.” Lucifer’s philosophy.
Gaia’s retort. “I told you not to tell people about the cuffs.”
Snippet #1:
“Are you out of your fucking mind?” Adexios asked.
“According to eighty-nine out of a hundred psychiatrists, yes,” Lucifer replied with evident pride.
“And what about the other eleven?” Adexios asked.
“Had them reassigned to latrine duty for incompetence of course. I have a reputation to maintain after all. Mentally balanced, my hairy ass.”
Snippet #2:
“You’re not supposed to force people to fall in love,” Gaia said.
“Why not? It worked with you.” Lucifer waggled his brows and leered.
“You didn’t force me. Against my better judgment, and despite all the therapy sessions and spells, I just couldn’t help myself. You’re like crack to my heart.”
His gaze narrowed. “Did you just compare me to a highly addictive, dangerous drug?”
“Yes.”
“Mon amour.”
Snippet #3:
“About Adexios, you aren’t seriously sending him out to count demons in the wild? It’s impossible and a waste of his talent,” she said.
Lucifer rolled his eyes in a very duh expression. “I know the boy is too smart for that. However, I couldn’t tell him the real reason I needed him out there.”
“You’re still searching for that thing that popped in from that other dimension, aren’t you? I thought you told me not to worry my pretty pubic curls about it.”
“And I still don’t want you to worry. I will handle it. This is man’s work.” Chauvinism, alive and well in Hell.
Snippet #4:
“If at first you don’t succeed, chop off its head.” From the Amazon Guide to the Undead Apocalypse.
Snippet #5:
“If at first you don’t succeed, cheat.” From Lucifer’s Guide to Ultimate Domination
BLP Review ~ Tracy
I love paranormal reads, that’s no secret, and one of my favourite series is ‘Welcome To Hell’ by Eve Langlais.
Hell’s Geek is book #5 and it’s another funny, sexy, action packed read with a couple of twists and turns – it’s a great addition to the series – we get to see more of Lucifer and Gaia which I really enjoyed – Luc is one of my favourite characters in the series.
I read HG in a day, I didn’t want to stop – once I get in the zone with a book by Eve I find it hard to leave.
Dex isn’t your typical minion from Hell…. tall and lean in build he’s not the big brawny specimen you’d expect one of Lucifer’s guys to be. The thing is, even though he’s different to the other main men in the previous books his quick wit, intelligence and grit are all very attractive features – ones that Valaska can’t help but be interested in – and I really liked his character.
Our heroine is actually the big, tough and battle ready one in this story. An Amazon through and through – she’s feisty, determined and more than capable of taking care of herself but there’s more to Valaska than meets the eye.
She is drawn to our hero even though he’s not the kind of guy she’d usually go for – his attitude and actions intrigue her – Dex isn’t put off by her strength, spunk and ability to fight, he’s more than happy to be the brains of the outfit while she does what she does best, namely maiming and killing anything that they come across.
Though they seem like complete opposites, the pair are attracted to each other from the off and it doesn’t take long for them to get to know each other better – and I don’t just mean swapping life stories… Lucifer was a surprise matchmaker when the series started but the guy has a real knack for picking compatible couples and throwing them together in the strangest of situations!
The story line that started in Hell’s Kitty continues in Hell’s Geek and while a little light is shed on what’s going on, we’re still trying to work out who is actually behind all the shenanigans…. The epilogue was entertaining and I can’t wait to see how things pan out following that – roll on the next book in the series!
A solid 4* read in my book!
Excerpt:
Standing under the hot spray of his shower, Adexios had just soaped himself when a deep voice said, “Tell me you’re whacking off and not actually bathing to avoid your meeting with me.”
Hear that unmanly squeak? Yeah, that came from him as he clung to the curtain and peeked around the edge. “What are you doing in my bathroom?”
Lucifer’s dark brows arched. “I left strict instructions that I wanted to meet with you the moment you brought in your boat—late again. While I commend you on never being on time, especially since it drives my staff nuts, defying me isn’t conducive to a long and torture-free life. Some would even say it’s moronic.”
“Really?” Adexios brightened. “I don’t suppose you could tell my mom I did something stupid? It would totally make her day.”
You’d think that a grown man in his thirties wouldn’t give a shit anymore, but when his mom was happy, she baked, and given his cooking skills equaled varying degrees of burnt, he could use some home-cooking lest he wither to skin and bones. He was, after all, his father’s son.
“Mama’s boy,” Lucifer uttered with a shake of his head.
The devil said it as if it was a bad thing. Adexios had two-dozen homemade oatmeal raisin confections in his Cookie Monster jar that said otherwise.
“Is there any particular reason you felt a need to rush our meeting? I was planning to come as soon as I washed and put on some clean clothes.”
“So finish off and get dressed. We need to talk.” Lucifer hopped onto the vanity and crossed his arms, whistling as he waited.
“Um, could you like maybe step into the next room while I finish?”
“Feeling inadequate?” Lucifer smirked. “I can’t really blame you. My wench doesn’t call me her stallion for nothing.”
“I thought it was because your fear of commitment made you run like the wind.”
The devil’s eyebrows drew together in a large black hairy beetle. “I fear nothing. Not even our upcoming”—Lucifer swallowed hard—“engagement party. The horror of it. Whatever happened to living in sin? I like sin. I encourage sin. But oh no, she wants to get married she says. She wants to lock me into a monogamous agreement. It’s utterly unnatural.”
Given Lucifer’s woebegone look, Adexios couldn’t help but throw him a verbal helping hand. “But just think of the benefits. Now when you stay late after work, and she harangues you, you can accuse her of stifling you, of not trusting, and of not wanting you to get ahead with your work.”
“You mean start a fight?” Lucifer perked up. “Fighting means makeup sex. I excel at makeup sex. And spontaneous sex. And…”
As Lucifer went on to list the many ways he excelled at fornication, Adexios popped his head back in the shower. Rinsing off the rest of the soap, he wondered, with a curiosity that plagued the mentally acute, what had brought Lucifer to his home.
Locks couldn’t keep the devil out if he wanted to see a person. The big guy had the ability to pop in on anyone anywhere in Hell, but he didn’t do it often. Lucifer claimed a trick like that was most effective when used sparingly. Apparently, the screams were more authentic that way.
Clean at last, Adexios shut off the water then grimaced. Whoever had built this place hadn’t been thinking when they put the towel bar out of reach of the shower. This meant he’d have to flash his boss. No big deal. After all, Lucifer truly had seen it all.
And I’ve nothing to be ashamed of.
Adexios yanked the plastic curtain to the side and stepped out. However, his hand froze in the process of reaching for a towel as he noted, while Lucifer sat atop his vanity, still expositing on the virtues of his lovemaking, a tall, very tall, woman stood in his bathroom.
Did he mention she was very attractive too? Blonde hair swept into a high ponytail, a muscular body that retained an hourglass shape displayed in a warrior-woman outfit consisting of a leather corset, which pushed her breasts high and created a shadowy valley, tight leather shorts hugging curvy hips meant for grabbing, and knee-high black boots that were just fucking hot. She also wore a sword at her side and a very amused expression.
“Well, hello there,” she said, her voice husky and sensual.
Too sensual. A certain part of him perked in interest, and Adexios fervently wished, as his cheeks heated, that a Styx monster would rise from the shower drain and swallow him whole.
About the Author

Hello, my name is Eve and I am a Canadian author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens.
I should warn you that I possess a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. I enjoy strong alpha males, and shifters. Lots of big, overprotective shifters. I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane…with pleasure. Do you like something a little darker? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
I love to write, and while I don’t always know what my mind is going to come up with next, I can promise it will be fun, probably humorous and most of all romantic, because I love a happily ever after.

The image was hot, the real woman in front of him hotter.
“Because I could do that for you,” her voice went husky and offered exactly what he’d come over here to get. “Be virginal, I mean.”
EXCERPT #2
Taye climbed out of his SUV and headed to the door of his town house, briefcase in hand. He bent and picked up a package left on his front step. Wrapped in cozy brown cords, he had a great butt, even from this distance, and Kat found several ways a day to see it. From her back upstairs window she’d watch him put out bird seed. Through his tiny kitchen window she’d catch glimpses of him making dinner.
“He’s not a nerd,” Kat said in his defense. “I’m willing to bet under that tweed jacket is a lot of man.”
“You think?” Celia assessed him with her man-hungry eyes.
Kat shifted. A second mistake. Taye’s physique was not up for discussion, not with Celia. She was a shark when it came to getting what she wanted.
