RELEASE BLITZ – The Nanny and the Beefcake by Krista Sandor

The Nanny and the Beefcake by Krista Sandor is now live!

The world knows Erasmus Cress as a British boxing champion and a single dad, but what they don’t know is that he’s also an O thief. Yep, that O. The OMG, don’t stop, please, don’t stop, O.

The infuriating beefcake rendered yoga instructor Libby Lamb an off-balance O-deprived mess with one arrogant glance, which turns out to be an occupational hazard when her job is to remain calm, cool, and collected.

She never expected to become the boxer’s nanny, but she’s got bills to pay and brothers to support. Not to mention, the beefcake’s ripped physique might be the key to reclaiming her O and restoring her inner peace.

Here’s the deal. She’s out of options, and so is he.

He’s training for the fight of his life, and he needs someone to care for his son.

He says he doesn’t do relationships. But when their eyes meet, and the gloves come off, there’s no denying his yang is hot for her yin.

They clash at every turn, but Erasmus soon learns that the fight that matters the most might not be the one in the boxing ring. When it’s all on the line, the true battle will be the fight for Libby’s heart.

BLOG TOUR – Blind Bake (Maddie Baker mystery) by Denise Grover Swank

Blind Bake, an all-new slow burn romance mystery filled with chemistry and witty humor from New York Times bestselling author Denise Grover Swank is live now!

The first book in a new humorous romance mystery series by Denise Grover Swank.

Maddie

In the last few months, my life has gone to crap. My uncle died. I gave up my life to move back to my hometown to take care of my ailing aunt. And oh…I unwittingly drove a guy to his murder. Not exactly a stellar restart.

But things just keep getting worse, because the sexy-as-hell, yet stick-up-his-butt homicide detective in charge of solving the case thinks I had something to do with it, and he won’t leave me alone.

Even more concerning? It turns out the victim was one of the last people to see my mother alive before her unsolved murder eighteen years ago.

Noah

I left a big city police department for a fresh start in a smaller town. Less crime. Less murder. But three months later, I’ve been handed the murder investigation of the most hated man in town. The list of potential suspects is as long as Santa’s naughty list, but one name keeps popping up.

Maddie Baker.

She’s infuriating as hell, but is she a cold-blooded murderer? My instincts tell me no, yet I can’t exactly trust those. The last time I let myself presume someone was innocent, I ended up with a bullet wound and a broken heart.

About Denise Grover Swank

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became a nomadic gypsy, living in five cities, four states and ten houses over the course of ten years before she moved back to her roots. She speaks English and smattering of Spanish and Chinese which she learned through an intensive Nick Jr. immersion period. Her hobbies include witty Facebook comments (in her own mind) and dancing in her kitchen with her children. (Quite badly if you believe her offspring.) Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to perform many unspeakable tasks. She has six children and hasn’t lost her sanity. Or so she leads you to believe.

RELEASE BLITZ – The Deeper I Fall by Erika Kelly

The Deeper I Fall by Erika Kelly is live!

He’s a rough and rugged hockey player.  She’s a posh British princess. To win an enormous inheritance, they’re forced to live together.

This is not going to go well.

When his former hockey coach passes away, Declan Cadell is shocked to learn the man left him a cattle ranch. Well, not exactly. He’s got a little hurdle to jump over first. He has to win a trivia contest against the man’s estranged daughter. Oh, and there’s a caveat: he’s only in the running if he lives and works with the spoiled princess who blew off one of the greatest men he’s ever known.

As if it wasn’t hurtful enough that Seraphina Crutchley’s biological father replaced her with a bunch of sweaty hockey boys, now he’s forcing her to vie for her inheritance with one of them. Worse, the guy clearly can’t stand her because if–no, when she wins the contest–she’ll sell the land and return home to London. Why on earth would she keep a cattle ranch in Wyoming?

But Seraphina comes to learn the contest is about so much more than a ranch. It’s about learning who her father was and why he stopped asking to see her. It’s about falling in love…and finding the courage to fight for it.

RELEASE BLITZ – Up in Smoke (Hot in Chicago Rookies #1) by Kate Meader

UP IN SMOKE

Hot in Chicago Rookies #1

Kate Meader

Release Date: February 22

Lives are on the line at Engine 6 … and so are hearts.

Newly-minted firefighter Abby Sullivan is exactly where she wants to be: Chicago Fire Department’s Engine 6, the station where her mom blazed a trail as one of the first female firefighters in the city. The first to fall in the line of duty, too. All Abby wants is to succeed, but that’s a tough proposition when people only see a feel-good story, a token woman failing at a man’s job, or the princess in need of protection. And the man tasked with watching her six?

Lieutenant Roman Rossi, the one person she can’t let close.

Having the daughter of his boss and nemesis under his wing shouldn’t be a problem for Roman—he’s a professional and can treat her like any other firefighter rookie. Except she happens to be the gorgeous woman he once shared a slice of cherry pie with, followed by the hottest, sweetest, most pulse-pounding kiss of his life. He didn’t know her name but he had planned to find out.

Now Roman knows exactly who Abby is: a threat to his self-control more dangerous than a five-alarm blaze. Lust has no place in the firehouse, and a distraction like Abby with her electric blue eyes, waves of flame-red hair, and freckles Roman wants to map with his tongue, is one he can ill afford.

Becauseq one wrong move … and it could all go up in smoke.

Up in Smoke is the first in the brand new Hot in Chicago Rookies series about firefighters navigating the trials of new jobs and sizzling romances as they find their place in the world and the love of a lifetime.

NEW RELEASE – Scarlett and the Big Bad Billionaire (Eastport Bay Billionaires #6) by Tru Taylor

Title: Scarlett and the Big Bad Billionaire
Series: Eastport Bay Billionaires #6
Author: Tru Taylor

Genre: Small Town Romantic Comedy
Release Date: February 14, 2022

BLURB

In my expert opinion, every woman who’s been left at the altar should follow up that singularly humiliating experience by spending a week in paradise with a totally inappropriate—and totally sexy—stranger.

Even better if you meet him at the bar of the resort hotel where your destination wedding and honeymoon were supposed to take place.

Even even better if he’s hot and jacked and there are no names exchanged and zero chance of ever seeing him again afterward.

One week of no-holds-barred sex, sun, rum, and fun and your broken heart is on the road to recovery— or at least approaching the on-ramp.

Of course, the key to pulling off this surefire heartbreak cure is to make sure you don’t fall for him during that amazing week during which you lived out every sexual fantasy you’ve ever had.

And whatever you do, don’t run into your non-honeymoon fling three years later—at your matchmaking grandma’s house.

SCARLETT AND THE BIG BAD BILLIONAIRE is a hot small-town rom com take on Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. It’s a standalone enemies to lovers, mistaken identity, jilted bride romantic comedy filled with heart, heat, and billionaire romance fun!

EXCERPT

#1

“I hate him,” I said, not for the first time tonight. Wouldn’t be the last either.
“We all do, honey,” Maddie soothed. “He’s a cotton-headed ninny muggins, and you’re better off without him.”
Maddie had replaced all her favorite swear words with toddler-appropriate variations since becoming a mother, but I appreciated the furor and loyalty behind the silly phrase.
I rested my forehead against the cool surface of the outdoor bar. It smelled like beer and pineapple. “What I don’t understand is why he even flew here with me in the first place if he knew he wasn’t going to go through with it.”
“He told Joey he didn’t want to embarrass you since you’d already had your bridal shower. And he thought he could do it… up until this morning.”
“It’s like my dad and mom all over again.”
They were never married?” my younger half-sister asked, clearly shocked.
“No, no, they were, but he left. They all do eventually.”
“Not all of them,” she said. “Not Joey. He knows I’ll track him down and deep fry his Rocky Mountain oysters if he even thinks of leaving me alone with two kids under five.”
“You wouldn’t get the chance to mutilate him because I’d do it for you,” I vowed before slurping what remained of the brightly colored drink in my glass. “Besides, you can’t go to prison—you have to be there for the kids, whereas I will apparently never be having any.”
Maddie gave me a chiding glance as she offered me a sip of her club soda. “Last one, okay? You’re not used to drinking so much. You’re just piling misery on top of sorrow. Besides, I can’t stay awake much longer, and mom wants us to do brunch tomorrow morning before she and my dad leave.”
Unlike me, our mother had managed to find a great guy after her marriage to my father ended. A couple years after she’d married David, Maddie had been born, and my life had become infinitely better.
At the moment though, I didn’t want to face any of them—not even my sweet half-sister who wanted me to be sensible instead of ordering every umbrella drink on the bar menu.
“Nooooooooo,” I whined. “No brunch. No Eggs Benedict and sad eyes and ‘I’m sorry’s’ and ‘better luck next time, kiddos.’ I wish I could have gotten a flight out today. Then I wouldn’t have had to spend two hours at my ‘un-reception’ assuring everyone how okay I am and trying not to spill on this dress so I can re-sell it.”
My reception dress was a clingy red knit that matched the beautiful bougainvillea growing all around the property of the resort hotel. It was the only thing I’d packed for my destination wedding and honeymoon that wasn’t beachwear or resort casual.
Come to think of it, maybe I should have just changed into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. It wasn’t like I was going to impress anyone at this point.
For some reason I’d had some thought of maintaining dignity or some such nonsense. That concern was long gone tonight, thanks to Captain Morgan and the crew.
Maddie patted my back. “Well, for what it’s worth, I think you should keep it. It looks amazing on you. Bryce didn’t deserve that dress, and he didn’t deserve you. He’s boring—and he smells like hot dog water.”
I lifted my head. “What?”
“He does. I didn’t want to say anything about it when I thought you’d be spending the rest of your life with him, but it’s true. I don’t know how you stood it. I’ll tell Mom and David you don’t feel up to brunch. You can just see them when everyone gets home.”
Ugh. I did not relish the thought of going back to face all my co-workers and friends who hadn’t gotten the word yet about my canceled wedding.
But I would. Because I had to.
What was the alternative? Spending my honeymoon here alone? Maddie and Joe had to go back home—they both had work, and Trina had school. Mom and David were scheduled to go off on an excursion to the Acropolis tomorrow, not that I’d want to spend my un-honeymoon with them.
“What you need now is a hot bath and a good night’s sleep,” Maddie said.
“What I need is another drink.” I raised my hand to get the attention of the young bartender who was looking more and more like Tom Cruise as the hours—and colorful drinks—added up.
He nodded at me and started mixing a replacement for my empty glass.
“Or maybe a lobotomy so I can’t think about it anymore,” I added.
Or… a night with one of those guys,” Maddie said with waggling eyebrows. “I’ll bet you wouldn’t even remember Bryce’s name in the morning.”
I followed my sister’s pointed gaze to a group of guys on the other side of the bar. They were boisterous and loud as if maybe they’d started the party elsewhere and this was just one of many stops along their trail of debauchery tonight.
Every one of them was jacked, like they were bodybuilders—but then, no, they weren’t puffed up and slickly styled. Rather they were tough looking, their sinewy strength the kind that resulted from manual labor or old-fashioned bodyweight exercises. Several of them were tatted up.
“Don’t be ridiculous. The last thing I’m interested in right now is men. You don’t cure a hangover with more alcohol.”
“Um… have you never heard of ‘hair of the dog that bit you?’” she asked.
“I’m not interested in dog hair, horsehair, or sexily scruffy dark hair with a golden auburn streak,” I said, checking out the attractive guy at the very end of the bar. He didn’t appear to be drinking like the rest of his posse. “And I’m definitely not interested in a military guy.”
“You think they’re military?” she asked, studying them more closely now. “What’s wrong with that?”
“My dad was a SEAL, remember? Ninety percent divorce rate?”
“Oh right. But how do you know these guys are military?”
“Don’t stare at them,” I hissed. “They’ll take it as an invitation.”
She grinned, talking through her teeth like a ventriloquist. “Too late. Incoming hottie alert. Look alive, solider.”

#2

Scarlett
Someone was shining a flashlight into my eyes. A strong one.
The red glow boring through my eyelids hurt—everything hurt, actually. My head felt like it had a heartbeat, and my body weighed at least six hundred pounds.
Cracking my eyelids, I determined the source of the irritating light wasn’t a flashlight but an opening in the hotel room curtains. Hot morning sun streamed in, landing on my face and interrupting a heavy sleep marked by strange dreams of a wedding that never happened and a man who wasn’t my groom spending the night.
I sat up abruptly, causing my brain to slosh in my oversensitive skull and turning my stomach.
It hadn’t been a dream.
The wedding had been called off—and there had been a man. But apparently he hadn’t (thank God) spent the night. Except for the spot where I’d slept, the bed was empty and still neatly tucked.
Looking around the room, I saw no sign of the disconcertingly hot guy from last night.
I had vague memories of vivid green eyes and white teeth that had gleamed in a wolfish smile so charming I’d actually forgotten for whole minutes at a time that yesterday had been the worst day of my life.
But it had.
And this afternoon I’d get on a plane, go home to Minnesota, go back to work, and try my best to forget about the whole thing.
Ugh. I dreaded the looks of sympathy coming my way—or worse, the friends and co-workers who wouldn’t look at me, who’d find a way to be “busy” when I came into a room because they didn’t know what to do or say.
Oh well. What was the alternative? Stay here in the Greek islands and hide forever?
Not only could I not afford to do that, the prospect of going on my pre-paid tours and dining at beautiful seaside vistas alone was enough to get my pitiful hungover ass out of bed and moving toward my suitcase to start packing.
The sound of a toilet flushing made me jump. Were the walls of the hotel room that thin?
Wait—this was a bungalow. There were no shared walls through which you could hear a neighbor’s flushing. Which meant the sound—and the sound of running sink water that followed it—had come from thisbungalow.
“Oh good, you’re awake.”
A man had rounded the corner and was now standing—shirtless—in my room.
Not a man, the man. The one from last night.
He looked even better than I’d remembered, with dark, messy hair and a body so fit and muscular it would have made me drool—if I hadn’t been too dehydrated to produce saliva at the moment.
His eyes were arresting, and his face as a whole gave me serious young-John-Stamos vibes. Yes, I’d binge-watched every episode of Full House when I was younger—not sorry.
“I used one of the complimentary toothbrushes in there. Hope you don’t mind,” he said cheerfully. “I figured since Bryce wouldn’t be using it, it was fair game. Unfortunately, he didn’t leave any shirts, so whenever you’re feeling up to it, I’m gonna have to ask for that one back.”
I looked down at myself, only now noticing I was wearing an unfamiliar, and heavenly smelling—good God what was that amazing scent?—man’s t-shirt.
And not much else.
I pulled up the hem to check and confirmed that yes, I was still wearing the ridiculously expensive, crystal encrusted “bridal thong” Maddie had given me at my shower.
“Yes, they’re still on,” he said.
I looked back up at the grinning guy…. what was his name? Fox? No, that wasn’t it, though I’d heard it at some point last night and it was completely appropriate when it came to this guy.
Wolf. That’s what it was. Also appropriate, considering the look on his face as he stared at the place where I’d drawn up the shirt for a panty-check.
I dropped it and tugged the hem down in a futile attempt to cover more of my thighs.
“I know. I just… um… did we…?”
I’d never had to ask a question like this before, having never been roofied—or drugging myself to the point of oblivion as I apparently had last night.
“Did you… sleep over?”
His smile widened. “I did.”
My heart plummeted then fell further as he added, “But there was no sleeping involved.”

#3

“Miss Hood?” A nursing assistant peeked into the room. “There’s someone who’s asking to speak with you in the hallway.”
“Oh. Okay, sure.” I leaned over and kissed Vivi’s cheek. “Be right back.”
I stepped into the hallway, expecting to find a nurse or doctor who wanted to speak with me privately.
The person waiting there was actually the last one I’d ever have expected to see.
“Bryce?”
My former fiancé gave me a sympathetic look and stepped forward to hug me. I was so shocked, I let him.
You know what? My sister was right—he did smell like hot dog water.
“How are you, sweetheart? I came as soon as I heard,” he said.
When he released me, I stared at him. “What are you doing here?”
“I went to the mansion first—wow, what a place. That must have cost some big bucks. The housekeeper there said your grandmother had been brought here, and you went with her. Is she okay?”
I nodded, feeling numb. “She’s doing alright. They’re running tests.”
Staring some more, I tried to get it through my head that my ex had flown halfway across the country and was standing in front of me.
“Is something wrong?” I asked him. “Did something happen at home?”
“No, your family’s all fine. I’m fine,” he said, “Actually, no, that’s a lie. I’m not fine. I haven’t been fine since I lost you.”
“Lost me? You didn’t lose me, Bryce. You returned me for a full refund.”
“The biggest mistake I ever made,” he said adamantly.
“I’ve doing a lot of thinking. And here’s the thing—you’re the love of my life, I can’t live without you. I want you to give me another chance. I want to be there for you… till death do us part.”
From behind his back, he produced a bouquet of flowers that had obviously been purchased at the hospital gift shop. In fact, there was a card nestled in the vase with the hospital’s logo—and the inscription, “For Patty. Get well soon. Love, Harold.”
Noticing it, Bryce snatched the card out and dropped it on the floor. “Not sure how the florist got that confused.”
He shoved the vase of flowers at me. “I know it’s been hard on you since we broke up. And I know you’re not with anyone. You’ve been single since what should have been our wedding night. But you don’t have to be lonely anymore.”
Just then, Gray rounded the nurses’ station holding two cups of coffee from the hospital cafeteria.
“Actually, she’s been with me since your non-wedding night,” he announced, coming to stand beside me and handing me a cup, which I took automatically.
Thanks for that, by the way,” Gray said to Bryce. “I never would have gotten the chance to propose to this amazing woman if you hadn’t fucked up so thoroughly.”
“Propose?” Bryce yelped.
I shouted the question just as loudly inside my head.
“I’m her fiancé,” Gray calmly lied. “We’re getting married.”
My ex-fiancé’s gaze fell to my bare left ring finger, and Gray saw it.
“We’re still picking out the ring,” he explained. “I want her to have the perfect one. We were planning to fly to LA and New York this weekend to look at two different choices. Vivi’s little scare here might put that off for a bit.”
“What are you, some kind of billionaire?” Bryce emitted a snort-laugh.
Gray’s expression stayed cool. “Maybe. Maybe not. My financial status is none of your business. The only thing you need to know is I’ve got everything it takes to make Scarlett happy and take care of her. She doesn’t need you—or want you.”
He looked down at me, sliding his arm around my shoulders and silently willing me to go along with the ruse. “Right babe?”

BLP REVIEW – Tracy

A new series from Freya Barker and a host of new characters to get to know and love…. abs it’s gonna be fun!!

High Meadow was a really great start to the new High Mountain Trackers series. Suspense, action, intrigue and danger along with great characters and world building all added to the read.

As always with Ms Freya, or MCs are older, have experienced life, love and loss in different forms but are still trying to live their best lives.

Alexandra (Alex) has raised her son, see him grow and leave home and is now running her Horse Rescue Centre in Montana. Living a new life in a new area her first interaction with Jonas didn’t make for a good impression.

Jonas is ex special-ops, now running a ranch with the men he considers family from his military days. When they’re not in the ranch, they work as Trackers, using their skills to help the police and others when hired.

Neither of them play games. They’re past dancing around what they want. They say what they think, even when what the have to say is blunt as all get out. Jonas has a little bit of a ‘pita issue’ at times, that being he is one on occasion with some of the things he says…. coming across as overprotective and stubborn while hiding the softer, caring man he can be!!

I loved Alex. She sees people. Cares about those around her but isn’t afraid to get involved if she thinks it’s the right thing to do. Working in what is traditionally considered a ‘man’s job’ she’s a little defensive at times (understandably) when her abilities are questioned but she soon proves her doubters wrong!!!

Jonas is loyal to those he cares for, protective of his friends and family and though he can come across as harsh, when he sees (or is told 😉) what he’s been missing, he’s a good man, steps in and does his bit to help.

I loved meeting the other characters so far. Jonas’s dad was fab (I know a man or two like him and while they vex me I love them dearly!!?). The other guys I feel are gonna get a run for their money with their significant others… and I’d love to see more a bit more of Alex’s son or find out at least how he’s doing. 🤞🏻

I’m so looking forward to the other books in the series and Freya had already paved the way for the next couple…. I’m excited to find out what our upcoming leading man is all about!!

If you’re a current readers of FB’s books you’re gonna love this. If you’re a new reader, it’s a good place to start… though you really should get on her other series asap!!!

USA Today bestselling author Freya Barker loves writing about ordinary people with extraordinary stories.

RELEASE BLITZ – Blind Bake (Maddie Baker Mystery) by Denise Grover Swank

Blind Bake, an all-new laugh-out-loud romance mystery from New York Times bestselling author Denise Grover Swank is live now!

RELEASE BLITZ – Wicked Heat (Chicago Heat series) by Ella Frank

What’s the worst that could happen if I let this desire burn out of control?

Wicked Heat, an all-new opposites-attract mm romance, and the first book in the Chicago Heat Series from USA Today bestselling author Ella Frank, is live now!

Ryan
Kind, caring, and protective. Those are the three qualities I’m looking for when it comes to my dream man. In a city as big as Chicago, you wouldn’t think he would be that hard to find, right?
Wrong.
Sure, my boss found a super-sexy detective and my best friend fell madly in love with the most eligible bachelor around. But the only person I’ve met recently is a broody bad boy who saved me at a sketchy pub.
He’s grumpy, rude, and honestly, not that likeable at all. Hardly my “dream” guy.
So why can’t I stop thinking about him?

Jameson
I don’t do friendships. I don’t do relationships either. The very last thing I’m looking for in life is to fall in love and live happily ever after.
So saving some rich guy from losing his wallet is the last thing I want to do on a Friday night. Especially when he looks like someone who just stepped off the cover of GQ.
Fate seems to have other ideas, though, and every time I turn around, he’s there.
A wicked heat simmers between us, threatening to ignite, and though I’ve been trained to put out the flames, I can’t help but think: What’s the worst that could happen if I let this desire burn out of control?

But she’s too young, too sweet and good.

Excerpt

Aderyn grunted as she hauled Fenix into a deep, dank area that came and went, flowing in and out of focus as he struggled to remain awake. Her fear seeped into him through their bond, a tangible thing that drove him to reassure her, to steal that emotion away by somehow healing the gaping hole in his side that was leaking blood.

Probably leaving a trail of it for someone to follow.

His beautiful mate adjusted her grip on his shoulders, fisting the black leather jerkin he wore, her claws piercing the material. “Stay with me, Fenix.”

She sounded desperate, her usually light voice strained with fatigue and fear, and he reached for the connection that linked them, needing to soothe her.

“That trick is not going to work this time.” She huffed and grunted as she dragged him into a large cavern and paused to look around. He stared up at her and wanted to curse when she kept wavering in and out of focus, a blur of spun gold and violet one moment and clear the next. She glanced down at him, worry in her pale eyes that almost matched the colour of her hair as it swayed away from her purple leather corset. “This will do.”

She eased him down onto his back and he grimaced as his side blazed. He needed to get a look at the wound because it felt as if someone had punched a hole clean through him. The surrounding area felt cold, the chilly air in the cavern sucking the heat from the blood that continued to pump from him. He was losing too much.

Aderyn eased to her knees beside him and looked him over, the worry in her golden eyes growing as her fine eyebrows furrowed. Those eyes darted to meet his. “We need to help this close.”

Fenix swallowed hard and shook his head, because if she did what he thought she was going to do, then he would pass out and he needed to remain awake. He needed to be here for her, in case the mage came after them again.

“Should not… have… killed her.” Every word was a struggle as he pushed them from his lips and he hated the way her expression shifted, her emotions changing with it.

He didn’t want to hurt her, but it had been a mistake to kill the wife of the mage, a female Aderyn had befriended and believed able to help her find a way to reopen the gateway between this world and the one of her phoenix kin—a portal that had been sealed shut for centuries. He could understand the betrayal had wounded her and part of him couldn’t blame her for how she had reacted. He had felt how crushed she had been when they had discovered the female had wanted to lure Aderyn into a trap, gifting her husband with the power contained in Aderyn’s phoenix blood.

But killing her hadn’t been the answer.

The mage had come after them because of what Aderyn had done.

Fenix gazed up at her, seeing how much she still hurt because of the betrayal, that pain hidden beneath the worry she felt for him. He cursed the mage’s wife, the less reasonable part of him—the part ruled by his instincts as her fated mate—wishing he had been the one to make her pay for how she had treated Aderyn.

His kind, beautiful Aderyn.

If his female had one flaw, it was that she always saw the good in people and never the bad.

He supposed his flaw was that he too often saw the bad in people and not the good.

The corners of his lips twitched at that.

Fate truly had made them for each other.

Aderyn leaned over him and claimed his lips, tearing a low groan from him as hunger surged and he felt her strength pouring into him. He greedily devoured what she offered to him, savouring her kiss as he fed upon it, part of him trying to hold back his own needs so he didn’t hurt her while the rest of him craved more, demanded he take everything from her. She tasted of heat and spice, a hint of smoke and love. He wanted her to break this kiss while at the same time he never wanted it to end.

A warm haze rolled through him, fogging his mind as his incubus nature rose to the fore and attempted to steal control. He relished the feel of her lips upon his and how strong she was—strong enough to withstand him even when he was starved, maddened by a need to feed. A weaker female would have been killed by him in the throes of his hunger, when he was mindless and vicious in his pursuit of the pleasure that would feed him. Not his Aderyn.

His mate had brought him back from the brink more than once, feeding him well enough to leave him sated for weeks, surrendering herself to him and giving him more than sustenance. She gave him pleasure too. Something he had never truly felt with anyone other than her.

She drew back and feathered her fingers down his cheek, concern shimmering in her eyes as they shone with flecks of amber fire and her brow furrowed. He mourned the loss of the feel of her touch as she sat back and glanced down at his side, her expression growing sombre.

“I am sorry.” She gave him that look, the one that said this was killing her but she was going to do it anyway, was going to go against his wishes and deal with the wound. “I cannot let you bleed out.”

Was it that bad?

He moaned and grimaced, his lips pulling taut as he tried to sit up and get a look at the wound the mage had dealt him when he had struck him with a glowing orb of blue magic that had poured lightning through Fenix’s veins. Pain blazed through him, stole his breath and ripped an agonised bellow from him that echoed around the cavern as he sank back against the damp stone ground. He struggled for air, his heart labouring as he fought to remain conscious.

Aderyn pressed her right hand to his shoulder and leaned over him, and he had the feeling she was doing it to keep him in place. She smiled softly.

“Look at me, Fenix.”

He shifted his gaze to lock with hers, cursed her in his mind when he saw the apology in her pale golden eyes and knew in his heart it wasn’t only because she was about to hurt him.

“Do not,” he croaked, desperation flooding him, making him restless as a need to stop her from doing something so reckless and dangerous seized him.

Her smile wobbled.

Heat blazed across his side, the firelight chasing over the sculpted planes of her face as she gazed down at him, as tears lined her eyelashes.

Fenix tipped his head back and screamed as the scent of burning flesh reached his nostrils, choking him. Every inch of him was on fire, on the verge of turning to ashes.

Darkness rolled up on him and he fought it, desperately clung to consciousness, aware that if he passed out then no one would be here to stop Aderyn from doing something foolish.

But he wasn’t strong enough to hold back the rising inky tide and it swallowed him.

The sound of water dripping in the distance roused him from the dark embrace of sleep.

Fenix groaned as awareness slowly returned, his senses gradually coming back online. His side throbbed at the same tempo as his heartbeat and he swallowed thickly, his mouth as dry as ash.

“Aderyn?” he husked, willing her to respond as the haze of pain and sleep cleared from his mind and he remembered what had happened.

Only the plip-plip-plip of water answered him.

He gritted his teeth and rolled to his right, away from his injured side, and opened his eyes. Everything was blurred. He rubbed at his eyes, clearing the salty grit from them, and tried again. A cave greeted him. Dark. Damp.

Empty, save for him.

“Aderyn?” He tried again, louder this time, hoping she was somewhere nearby and would hear him.

Only he couldn’t sense her.

His connection to her was weak, like a fragile strand of spider silk that could snap with the gentlest of touches.

Fenix got onto his knees, grimacing as small chips of basalt bit into them through his black leathers and jabbed his palms. He scanned the cavern again, aching to see Aderyn, to know that she was safe and hadn’t done something reckless.

Even when he knew in his heart that she had.

She had gone after the mage, still believed he knew the way to open the gateway, that he was the key to succeeding where she had failed so many times before.

He needed to get to her.

He needed to stop her before it was too late.

He pressed his hand to his left side, the hole in his black jerkin so large that he could fit his entire hand in it. The skin beneath his palm was puckered and sore, tender to the touch, but it was healed.

She had saved him.

Now he would save her.

His beautiful mate was headstrong and obsessed, driven by her desire to reunite with her people, and while he couldn’t understand that, he could understand the need that blazed within him—a desire to reunite with her.

He pushed onto his feet, collapsed back to his knees as his legs gave out, and then tried again, refusing to give up. He was healed and that meant he was moving, going after his female. There was no way in this world or the mortal one that he was going to let her face the mage alone.

Drystan would kill her.

Or worse.

He would use her as a source of power, slowly destroying her by stealing her blood to fuel his magic and his immortality.

Fenix couldn’t let that happen.

He made it onto his feet and turned slowly, not trusting his legs. His senses reached out around him but he still felt nothing—no trace of Aderyn—so he focused on himself instead, summoning his strength.

And teleported.

His knees buckled as his boots hit the uneven black ground and his head spun as he tried to look around him, the strange dead garden of the obsidian stone house wobbling in and out of focus.

A scream blasted through the air.

His heart squeezed.

“Aderyn.”

His head whipped to his left, towards the small two-storey house and he teleported inside, stumbled and slammed into a wall. The scent of sulphur and smoke hit him, laced with the tinny smell of magic, and he pushed off, staggering along a wide hallway towards his mate. He could feel her there, ahead of him somewhere. He clenched his jaw as his head turned again, gripped his side and pushed onwards, refusing to let the weakness invading him stop him from reaching her.

His mate needed him.

Another scream cut him to his soul.

“Aderyn!” he bellowed and teleported again, grimaced as he landed on his hands and knees this time and his vision tunnelled.

He was pushing his luck.

He sucked down a breath.

Froze as the scent of blood hit him.

“Aderyn,” he whispered and lifted his head, wanted to roar in fury as he spotted her.

The white-haired mage held her by her throat, colourful glyphs swirling around his hand and her head as she struggled against him, her legs flailing a few feet off the ground. Her boots caught the flowing hem of the black robes the mage wore, each frantic kick knocking the material away from his leathers.

Panic seized Fenix’s lungs as he sensed her weakening. His gaze darted over her and stopped when he found the cut on her neck.

Crimson dripped from it, but rather than flowing down her chest to seep into her violet leather corset, those droplets rose into the air, slowly lifting upwards until they reached a point just above her head, where they gathered into a rippling sphere.

“Let her go.” Fenix pushed onto his feet and grimaced as his right leg gave out and he staggered sideways. He grunted as he hit a heavy wooden bench table and sagged against it. His side blazed as the mage turned cold red eyes on him.

Malice filled them, fury so dark and deep that Fenix swore he could feel the male’s rage.

Drystan slid Aderyn a look.

She screamed, throwing her head back as her body contorted, as another cut appeared on her chest and began to spill more crimson.

“No.” Fenix lunged for her, desperate now. “Let her go. She—”

“She killed my wife,” Drystan snarled, his face blackening as he angled it towards Fenix again. “And now she wishes to kill me.”

Fenix shook his head. “She only wants to open the gateway.”

The mage spat, “Lies. She wants me dead. All her kind do. I lived a peaceful life. I had all I needed… meant to live with my mortal wife for the rest of our days and then pass on as she did.”

His face twisted in vicious lines as he cast a black look at Aderyn where she struggled in his grip, her movements weaker now.

“And she took that life from me.”

Fenix gritted his teeth, anger surging through him too now. “Your wife was luring her into a trap. She meant to gift you with Aderyn’s blood to make you live longer!”

“I will not hear your lies. My sweet Cyra wanted to do no such thing. She was happy as we were.”

Fenix didn’t think she had been. Drystan’s sweet Cyra had spoken of immortality, had seemed desperate and wild when Aderyn had realised what she had intended to do to her and had turned on her.

“Cyra wanted her blood. She wanted to be immortal and she thought you could make it happen.” Fenix growled those words, feeling as desperate and wild as Cyra had been as he looked at Aderyn and saw her fading. She was losing too much blood. If the mage stole much more of it, she wouldn’t be able to resurrect. “Let her go.”

Drystan opened his hand and dropped her.

She hit the ground hard, slumped onto her side and didn’t move. Fenix hurried to her, his heart lodged in his throat as his senses locked onto her. She had to be all right. He couldn’t live without her. Didn’t want to.

He sank to his knees beside her and pulled her onto her back, so she was resting with her head on his thighs. “Wake up, Aderyn.”

The mage stared down at them and Fenix struggled to keep his focus on her as her eyelids fluttered. Her pale golden eyes opened, a glassy quality to them that he didn’t like as she struggled to lift them to meet his. He stroked her cheek, wishing he could give her strength as she could give it to him. If he could, he would drain himself to the brink of death to save her from it.

His eyes misted as he gazed down at her, as he fought to believe that she would make it through this death and that the mage hadn’t taken too much precious blood from her. Her power was in that blood and if the mage had stolen too much of it and she died—

“She will die,” Drystan said. “There is no way of stopping that now.”

“Shut up.” Fenix kept his focus on his mate. “Come on now, sweetheart. Do not do this to me.”

Her eyes slipped shut and his chest constricted.

But then they fluttered open again.

“I loved as deeply as you do, and that love was ripped from me.” The mage came to loom over him and Fenix looked up at him, that tight feeling growing in his chest again as he saw the darkness in the male’s red eyes.

The need for revenge.

Fenix shook his head, silently imploring the male to leave her alone, to leave them both alone.

“I will ensure she does not come after you again. Please. Let her live.” Fenix’s brow furrowed as he gathered Aderyn closer and crossed his arms over her chest in a protective gesture that he knew was futile. If the mage wanted to get to her, he would. Fenix wasn’t strong enough to stop him.

“Oh, she will live. As will you.” The white-haired male raised his hand and closed his eyes, muttered words in a foreign tongue that had the hairs on Fenix’s nape rising and charged the air around him.

Tiny sparks of electricity skittered over his arms and he shook his head as Aderyn moaned and tried to curl up into a ball.

The mage crouched and reached for her.

Fenix batted his hand away and glared at him.

Locked up tight as the male’s crimson eyes collided with his.

Fenix unleashed a frustrated snarl when he tried to move and found he couldn’t. Damn this mage. He tried to yell at the male, to make him leave her alone, but his mouth wouldn’t cooperate.

All he could do was watch as the mage pressed his palm to her chest and continued to mutter something over and over again.

The mage’s red gaze lifted to meet his.

Blazed like fire as the static charge in the air grew stronger.

Aderyn disappeared.

The mage rose to stand before Fenix, his gaze never straying from him, burning like an inferno but as cold as ice.

“I condemn you both. Her to die and forget you if she ever recalls her love for you. You to forever chase her ghost, desperate to make her love you again.”

Drystan turned his back on him and strode away. He disappeared before he reached the door of the room, but his words lingered in the icy air.

“Enjoy your eternity.”

Skulduggery, deceit, loss, passion and a whole host of familiar characters prepared to fight the good fight set the tone for the latest instalment in the Eternal Mates series.

No matter how far into the series we go, or how many new faces we meet, this story arc from Ms Felicity is always attention grabbing, heart stopping and action packed and never ever dull.

Evelyn and Fenix were awesome. I loved his devotion and determination, even when the mate draw was messing with his head and heart. The reason behind his name…. The gods, that was just the best… What he was willing to go through to save his mate and have her remember him was nigh on an endless list.

Evelyn, poor thing, no wonder she didn’t know which way was up and who she could trust….. especially when at points it seemed like she doubted herself …..but finally some truths came out, even if they weren’t pretty, and she began to believe the things she was being told, even though at times they had seemed fantastical.

I do love a FH battle, there’s just something about the unpredictability of the opponents our good guys face that makes me root for them all the harder.

Bloody Archangel, these people are getting worse and I’m sensing things are gonna get a lot darker before the evil within that organization is eradicated by our favourite paranormals!!!!!!!

I have to admit to being intrigued by Rane and the witch he’s enraged…. Got my fingers crossed we’re gonna get their story at some point in the future.

Inflamed by an Incubus is another fantastic read in this great paranormal series and I cannot wait for what’s coming next!!!!
