I turn her in her seat so she’s facing me. “You’re gonna like me even more when I’m inside you.” Her body grows taut. “You can’t say stuff like that. It makes me uncomfortable.” “Well, now I’m going to have to do it more often to get you used to it; make you crave it, beg for it.”

About the Author

USA Today bestselling author MJ Fields love of writing was in full swing by age eight.

Together with her cousins, she wrote a newsletter and sold it for ten cents to family members.

She self-published her first contemporary, new adult romance in January 2013. Today she has completed seven self-published series, The Love series, The Wrapped series, The Burning Souls series, The Men of Steel series, Ties of Steel series, The Rockers of Steel series and The Norfolk series.

MJ is a hybrid author and publishes an Indie book almost every month, and is signed with a traditional publisher, Loveswept, Penguin Random House, for her co- written series The Caldwell Brothers. “They’re here,” Lex said with a growl as he, Desiree, Zach, and Lydia crept along the dark corridors of Khan’s castle. The smell of sulfur and dirt tingled his nose. Even though Lex had a home in the Underworld, he didn’t spend much time there. Not since Khan had taken over, anyway. “The hounds are separated and masked with a spell.”

His keen sense of dark magic came from his Death Demon half and his connection to Hecate—Goddess of Witchcraft. Khan may believe he’d hidden Teddy-Bear, but not from everyone. The fool bastard.

Lex fisted his hands. It took every fiber of his being to hold onto his control. The hounds couldn’t survive spit apart for much longer. As Siamese twins, their magic and souls were linked. They were growing weaker by the moment.

Reaching out to mind link with the hounds, he found Teddy first in a room a few feet away. Then he heard the faint thump, thump of the hellhound’s heartbeat.

“He’s alive. Thank the goddess.” We’re coming, buddy.

A low growl from Lydia at his back told him she wasn’t pleased with the hounds being apart. “Do you know where they are?”

With a short nod, he advanced down a hallway in quick strides. He uncurled his magic, letting it flow wildly within and waited for an attack. Lydia, Zach, and Desiree followed, having to fall into a light jog to keep up with him.

“Things are too quiet.” Zach spoke in a hushed tone; concern and fear of what was ahead of them drifted from him. Dark, elfin magic rose within the male and reached out to Lex’s senses.

Yeah, things were too quiet.

Stopping a few feet down the hall, Lex stopped and faced them. He flicked a hard stare to the door they had stopped a few feet from. Cold, lethal power rose in his veins. The hounds were his family—what little he had left—and he’d be damned if Khan got away with harming them. “Teddy is in there. Zach and Lydia, you get him. Desiree and I will get Bear. We’ll meet at the Divinity House.”

The reason for not busting down the door and freeing Teddy was that Bear’s heartbeat sounded stronger. Teddy would need Lydia’s healing touch. Lex figured it’d be quicker to rush down the hall and collect Bear while Lydia healed Teddy.

When they reached the door, Lex didn’t bother to check the lock. He just plowed through the thick wood, tearing the thing off its hinges. The room was empty except for a large cage in the center with Bear standing in it, teeth bared.

The hound met Lex’s gaze and snarled, “The place is going to blow.”

“I love being with you,” Wyatt says as if he’d read my thoughts.

I squeeze his hand. “I love being with you, too. We have fun together, right?”

“Always, Trinity.” He stops and glances down at me with a serious expression. “Not just the sex—although, that’s fucking awesome.”

“Fuck yeah, it is,” I tease, jabbing my finger in his gut. That was stupid. His stomach’s like a brick wall. “Ow. I think I broke a nail.”

“Nutty girl.” He tugs me along a faint path through the woods. The trail follows a small stream, and I keep stopping to see if there are any fish.

“We don’t have any poles,” Wyatt says, stopping to check the water with me.

“What, you can’t play Tarzan and catch one with your bare hands for me?”

He busts up laughing. “I can, if that’s what you want.” He stops and pulls me close. “What do you think about owning a cabin up here? Like this one?”

“We just built a house. You want to move here?” Is he suggesting leaving the club? I can’t imagine Wyatt wanting to do that.

“No. A vacation place. To get away from everything when we need to.”

“Oh. Sure,” I say off the cuff, certain he’s not serious, but his next words knock me sideways.

“It would make a nice wedding present for my girl.”

“What? Did you…is it ours?”

“Not yet. I wanted to see if we liked it first. The owner’s had it on the market for a while, so I think we can get it for a good price.”

The way he keeps saying we, even though I haven’t really done anything to contribute to our finances, I don’t know, it does something to me. It’s a silly thing to fixate on at the moment, but I can’t help it.

“I love it here. But I love wherever we go as long as we’re together.”

He gives me a soft smile and kisses my forehead.

“Really, Wyatt. Whatever you want is fine by me.”

“I’ve seen the pictures of your dream house on the beach,” he teases.

“Mmm…a hut in Belize where you can run around in a loin cloth all day would be perfection,” I joke back.

His mouth lifts into a sexy smirk. “That might be a little out of our price range right now.”

“Cabin in the woods works for me, too. I’ll follow you anywhere.”

He takes my hand again. We traipse through the woods together, enjoying the quiet. My stomach growls and I’m about to tell Wyatt I want to head back, when he suddenly stops.

“What?” I giggle and he shushes me.All the fun is sucked right out of our morning.

“Have you eaten?” he asked.
“How did you get in here?” she ignored his question and asked her own.
“I have access to the keys for every building we manage. Are you really meeting that thing for dinner?” he asked again.
“Okay, first of all, ‘that thing’ is a seriously good looking, very successful, and ridiculously nice man – a man who has yet to lie to me and use me,” she pointed out.

“That’s not funny, and if you can’t realize that, then there is literally no hope for you.”
“Ah, implying there is hope.”
“Shut up.”
“Feisty. I love it.”
“I talked to Vieve,” she blurted out. That finally stopped him.
“Oh, really,” was all he said.
“Yup. Went to your place, had a cup of coffee with her,” she said. That seemed to actually surprise him.
“You were in my home?” he checked.
“Yes. Apparently, I could’ve been spending lots of time there. Very generous of you to give me complete access,” she said. He didn’t react, though she noticed the tendon in the side of his neck was taut and straining.
“Yes, well, I’ve met you. I knew if you ever showed up, it would be a huge hassle with the front desk calling my office and you calling my cell phone and me having to drive across town.
Was just easier that way.”
“Sure. Okay.”
“And how was the coffee? I have it imported.”
Katya stared at the tight tendon for a moment longer. He was so good at putting on a false front, she knew. Looking calm and collected. After all, this was a man who ate million dollar real estate deals before breakfast.
But it was all fake. He was nervous. Deep down, she could tell. Being forceful was just his way of barreling through a problem he didn’t actually want to deal with – he could just strong arm her into doing what he wanted. No unnecessary awkwardness. That was Wulf’s M.O.
Yeah, well, my M.O. is to make him feel as awkward as humanly possible.
“I can’t go to breakfast with you,” she stated, brushing past him and heading down the hallway. He didn’t hesitate to follow behind her.
“No shit, it’s afternoon – it’s too late for brunch, even. But that Brazilian food cart is open for lunches now, we’re going -” he started, but she waved her hand over her shoulder as she moved into her bedroom.

“I can’t, I’m busy this afternoon. I have to go shopping for a new stove – don’t worry, I’ll have the bill sent to you,” she joked, turning around and standing in the doorway to her room.
He glared down at her.
“Don’t be ridiculous. I’ll talk to maintenance, we can get a new stove in by the end of the
week,” he assured her.
“Whatever. I have other plans.”
“Tocci, I’m not -”
“But how about dinner?” she offered.
That seemed to shock him. He stood still for moment, his eyes wandering over her face.
Obviously trying to figure out if she was lying. She offered him a big smile, and that just seemed to throw him even more off guard. He finally narrowed his eyes.
“If I make reservations, you’ll be downstairs on time?” he checked.
“No,” she shook her head. “But I can meet you there.”
“Bullshit. You’ll stand me up, and I’m not wasting my time, sitting around like an asshole waiting for you,” he said.
“I won’t, I promise. I have … a client I’m dealing with this afternoon. I don’t know how long it will take,” she told him.
“What about your dinner date with your darling handyman?” he asked. She shrugged.
“I’ll figure something out, don’t worry about it. I’ll have dinner with you.”
“You promise?” he checked, still glaring down at her. She nodded and ran her fingers across her chest in an X motion.
“Cross my heart.”
“Fine. But don’t fuck with me, Tocci. You won’t like it if I have to come and find you. We have a lot to discuss,” he informed her. She nodded.
“I’m sure we do. What’s the dress code?” she asked. Wulf was a 3-Michelin-stars kind of restaurant goer when it came to dinner dates.
“A dress,” he informed her, and then his gaze wandered over her shoulder. She had some clothes laying around on the floor, littered about on the bed. She was gearing up to do laundry. “If you’d like to try on some options, I’d be more than happy to sit and help.”
Katya laughed and slid her hands up either side of the door frame. Wulf followed the motion with his eyes, which grew wide when she leaned towards him.
“Mmmm, that would be fun, wouldn’t it?” she chuckled.
“Possibly.”
“And it’s been a very long time since you’ve been in my bedroom,” she reminded him. He nodded.
“It has.”
“And we never got to have any real fun in here, did we?” she sighed, glancing back at her bed.
“No. No, we did it not.”
“It must make you wonder, though,” she said, dropping her hands and stepping back into the room.
“Wonder what?”
“What kind of fun Liam and I used to have in here.”
There was a split second where she got to see equal parts anger and shock ripple across his features.
Then she slammed the door in his face.

“You’re Fletcher, aren’t you?” a tall blonde with legs that go on for miles asks, resting her hand on my shoulder. Logan smiles with a look that says you’ve pulled tonight. She is pretty tidy looking, but has overdone it in the make-up department. I rake my eyes in appreciation over her body. Curves in all the right places, and those tits, bloody hell…I could have a lot of fun with those as I slide between them, but of course, they’re probably fake.

“Yeah,” I say, even though I shouldn’t, but I’m sure the rest of the guys are loving the female attention they’re getting. “Drinks all around,” I call out.

The bartender smiles as he looks at our company. Even he has an idea of how tonight will end.

The blonde tells me her name, but I don’t take any notice. I don’t want to remember her name in the morning, or whenever I creep out of her bed. Makes it easier that way. As the alcohol flows freely, the blonde keeps trying to persuade me to get on the dance floor with her. She seems the type that wouldn’t mind putting on one hell of a floor show. I might be on the drunk side now, but I’m still cautious. I’ve definitely learned my lesson over the years; you just never know who is lurking around, ready to get pictures. She can do what she wants for me in private later on, though.

Author Bio

Karen Frances currently lives just outside Glasgow, Scotland, with her husband, five children and two dogs, although she does dream of living somewhere warm and sunny. Her days are spent helping her husband run their busy family business. She spends some of her free time trying to keep fit and prepare healthy meals for her family, when their busy schedules allow them to sit down at meal times together. The rest of her free time she uses to plot and write and occasionally read.
