BLURB

A mountain blizzard. An injured dog. A romance that caught them both by surprise.

Hailey Bailey craves safety. Raised by an alcoholic father chasing a dream of surfing superstardom, the down-to-earth health inspector just wants a comfortable salary and benefits. But when she attempts to save a lost dog in a blizzard and causes a pickup truck to crash, she’s awed by the handsome driver who protects her from the storm.

Noah Hunnicutt can’t catch a break. Struggling to keep his tavern afloat and impress his judgmental father, the twenty-eight-year-old family pariah is also fending off an obsessed hookup and his money-grabbing, two-timing ex-girlfriend. To top it off, he never expected he’d be rescuing the very woman who made him wreck his truck. But with the gregarious beauty now stranded in town, he can’t say no when she offers to help him out by waiting tables.

Enchanted by the tiny hamlet’s cast of quirky characters, Hailey begins to envision a life there … with the hunky bar owner on her arm. But a series of menacing notes has her rethinking that future. Meanwhile, Noah discovers his troubles aren’t only with vengeful exes when the lovely lady’s smarmy boss arrives to shut his business down. As Noah grapples with doubts about Hailey’s honesty, she contends with an increasingly hostile work environment that has her questioning her moral compass.

Can they overcome the outside forces working against them and cultivate a lasting love? Or will they be left to wonder what could have been?

She removed her puffy coat, folded it beside his, and shimmied into the nest he’d created. She lay on her side, making herself as narrow as possible, facing the back of the seat as he’d instructed her. Sliding behind her, he tugged the covers over his shoulders, and a woodsy man small enveloped her. She froze in place at the feel of his big body behind hers, luxuriating in his heat while trying to keep some distance between them. Doing so proved impossible on the narrow bench seat. He folded one arm under his head and draped the other over his hip, taking obvious care not to touch her more than he had to.
“You warm enough?” His chest rumbled with the words.
“Y-Yes,” she stammered. “What about you?” Was his back exposed? The blankets weren’t big enough to cover them both completely, and his frame was too long to stretch out.
“I’ll live. We can switch it up if we need to.” His warm breath stroked her cheek.
He tucked his knees behind hers and shifted his weight in the too-tight space, his limbs stretching, flexing, and finally softening. He was all hard angles and planes, and an unwanted thrill coursed through her entire body. She’d never lain beside a man who felt so … manly.

Hailey leaned against a cluttered credenza Noah needed to clear. “Did you know they call you the ‘keeper’?”
He shook his head. “Why?” He kept his eyes fixed on hers so they didn’t drift down to her neckline and all that skin.
“Well, the most obvious reason is you’re their favorite bartender. But apparently you have a reputation for listening to everyone’s troubles and keeping them to yourself. Your female customers are especially appreciative of your ability to keep a secret. I wonder why?” She sent him a sly wink.
“Oh,” came his witty response. While part of her statement gave him a warm flicker of pride, the other part made him squirm under her amused scrutiny. Or maybe the shots of whiskey sloshing in his empty stomach explained his sudden discomfort.
“I can’t blame them. You do shake a mean martini, barkeep. And the way you toss those liquor bottles. Phew!” She faked a forehead swipe.
For a breath-stealing moment, their eyes locked, and he couldn’t break it.
What is really going through that beautiful head of yours?
She cast her gaze down and pushed away from the credenza in an uncharacteristically jerky way, so different from her usual feline grace. A spray of greenery stuck to the hem of her skirt, and she plucked it off and held it in her open palm. “Oops, I hope I didn’t crush this. What is it?”
He ate up the distance between them, leaving mere inches of space, and lifted the vegetation from her hand. “Mistletoe. I really need to organize that credenza.”
Her pale blue eyes darkened as she scanned his face. “Mistletoe?” The word rolled out of her mouth in a breathless rush. Was it possible she was as hot and bothered as he was?
“It’s left over from Christmas last year. We had it hanging everywhere,” he stammered. “Dixie thought we could save it and reuse it this year, but it’s looking a little ragged.” He held it over his head to see if it would crumble.
“Barkeep, are you trying to get yourself kissed? If so, it’s the wrong time of year.”
He yanked his gaze back to hers. “I thought any time of year was the right time,” his mouth said for him.
A kiss wasn’t what he’d been going for … or was it? Hailey had been dancing in his line of sight and his mind’s eye, dousing him with hits of dopamine for most of the day, and the Jameson had dissolved his restraints into a mellow amber puddle.
He wanted her. Despite knowing he shouldn’t, despite the sirens blaring in his head. It wasn’t only his libido talking, though. Something else was at work, an undercurrent that was as powerful as it was vague and elusive.
For an electrified instant, he swam in the depths of those crystalline eyes, recording every fleck, every nuance of their shading, while a debate escalated in his head. He shouldn’t do this. It was a bad idea. The reason why was a little fuzzy, though, and the alarms faded to a dull noise.
She probably thought he had lost it as he stood there, holding the damn mistletoe in the air while he stared down at her. But if she did, she didn’t show it. Instead, she tilted her chin up and glanced at the desiccated plant, murmuring, “So are you just going to hold it there all night?”
Again, his mouth took over for his short-circuited brain. “Until I can invent a different reason why you should let me kiss you, then, yeah, I probably am.”
Her eyes flared and lowered to his mouth before slowly leveling with his again. “Who says you have to invent anything?”

Anne

I’m a realist, cynical about falling in love. Until I met Declan – the rich and powerful player. With his quiet determination, he dismantled my cynicism and made me believe.

Before I know it, I’m flashing a radiant smile, dressed, and eagerly awaiting him at the altar.

Only, I got the text – “I’m not coming” – shattering my world.

Years later, he’s back demanding a second chance, how dare he?

Unexpectedly, the agreement I made resurfaced, presenting me with a dilemma:

Marry as agreed or Lose Anne forever.

“Why are you here?” I ask in the sharpest controlled possible tone; I could proclaim instead of answering he moves closer to me. Instinctively, I move out of his reach in my narrow hallway. We mustn’t touch and we both know that, or at least, I know that.

“I came for you,” he states like it should be obvious as he takes his coat off and throws it onto my coat hanger. Just as I scoff. He must be losing his mind.

“Put your coat back on. You are not welcome here, and you won’t be here long enough to sit,” I say to him as I raised my left hand to my forehead, sighing. My ring catches the light, his eyes darken as he zeroes in on my ring, his jaw stiffens to that predatorial look. I know that look. The last time he had a look like that, the guy that smacked my ass almost had his head cut off. He moved closer and my feet quickened behind my loveseat couch.

“You ran away for almost four years, and you ask me why I’m here?” His voice deepens, giving me a perplexed, furrowed brow like I should know my question sounds stupid. Only it isn’t. He’s the one saying stupid stuff. He moves towards me, and I move back as well.

“I didn’t run away. You rejected and dumped at the altar me.” I raised my voice at him, he didn’t flinch “Instead of wallowing in self-pity, I took the opportunity that was offered to me and went on with my life, like you did. Why do you care where in the world I am?” I state as we continue our non-musical chair dance around the couch. In this moment, I’m glad I arranged my furniture for ease of traffic. I know what happens once he touches me. I wouldn’t be able to resist him, so my best defense is to avoid the slightest contact and keep moving till he leaves.

Keep reading for a look inside Waiting to Love You!

I turn my attention toward the voice and freeze, my eyes connecting with the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on. Her red hair lays over her shoulder in an intricate braid, with a few stray tendrils of hair framing her face. As she comes closer, I notice there are streaks of blonde in her hair brought out by the halo of sunlight behind her head. My eyes continue to wander down her body, taking in the fitted green top covering her curvy frame and the way her apple bottom fills out a pair of black yoga pants. Images of sinking my teeth into that ass as I take her from behind fill my mind, creating a rising problem in my pants.

Her face lights with happiness as she throws her arms around Brady’s neck and squeezes tightly. He chuckles softly, lifting her in the air before placing her feet back on the floor. She doesn’t even get a second to breathe before Riggs wraps her in his arms and spins her around, causing her to let out peals of laughter. Jealousy shoots through my veins as I jump to my feet, my entire being vibrating with the need to rip her from Riggs’s arms. I’ve never had this reaction to a woman before, let alone one I just met, but my body is moving before I stop myself. I have no idea who she is, but I plan on remedying that as soon as possible and learning everything about her.

Unable to contain my desire to meet this woman, I step between her and Riggs, causing her to take a step back.

“Hello,” she replies as she raises her eyebrow in question.

“Hi,” I reply awkwardly, suddenly at a loss for words. Flecks of gold sparkle in her emerald-green eyes as she looks me up and down, probably making many assumptions about me and my manners.

I hold out my hand, shoving it in her direction. “Hello. I’m Seth.”

The gruff sound of my voice surprises me as I clear my throat loudly, causing all three of my friends to snicker softly. I’ve always been slightly socially awkward, but this time it’s different. It’s like I’ve forgotten how to speak. Words are stuck in my throat as I try to make sense of what is happening right now. I’ve never been a person who believes in love at first sight, but right now, I do.

“Hi, I’m Bristol,” she responds tentatively as she looks down at my outstretched hand before grasping it in hers.

As soon as our skin connects, an electric current sizzles up my arm. Her eyes widen in surprise as she pulls her lip between her teeth. The two of us remain standing there, frozen, staring at each other. My heart aches as my hand moves on its own, brushing along her cheek. Her eyes drift closed as she leans into my touch, a soft sigh escaping her lips as I tuck a stray piece of her hair behind her ear. We stare at each other, neither of us moving, trapped in each other’s gaze until Brady clears his throat and breaks the spell.

He gives her his trademark grin. “Excuse him, Bristol. This is my friend, Seth; we are in the same unit together.”

Bristol’s demeanor immediately changes, her eyes hardening in my direction before plastering on a fake smile. “Nice to meet you, Seth. Are you guys ready to get started?”

“Sure thing. Lead the way, darlin’,” I motion toward the glass door separating the waiting area from the main studio. She flashes me a tight smile before spinning on her heels and walking through the glass door.

“What the hell just happened?” Brady’s eyes are focused on her retreating form.

“I don’t know, but the temperature in the room dropped by a thousand degrees the minute Brady said you were his friend,” Riggs retorts, a confused look crossing his face.

“Do you and Bristol have something going on?” I growl, my fists tightening at my side.

“Calm down, Seth. Bristol and I are just friends, nothing more. What did you do to piss her off that quickly? You only said three words to her.”

Riggs and Brady are right. I highly doubt that I could have done anything, but there must be a reason for her sudden change in behavior. I just don’t understand why she would shut down so quickly after hearing Brady and I are friends. Does she have a thing for Brady he doesn’t know about? Is it because I’m in the military? No, that can’t be it, especially with how she reacted to Brady.

Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Bristol moving around the studio, laying four beige-colored yoga mats on the floor as she gets ready to start our class. “I’m not sure, but she doesn’t seem like she wants to talk about it right now.”

I take a step forward to enter the studio but feel someone tugging on my arm. I turn to find Walker eyeing me skeptically.

“What?”

“You need to tread lightly with her, Seth,” Walker warns as he releases my arm, his eyebrows pulled down in concern as he examines my face. “Bristol is Leia’s best friend from college, but…” he begins, but shakes his head. “Never mind, just be careful, okay?”

Walker strolls past me and into the studio, Riggs right on his heels. Brady gives me a slap on the back. “Don’t think too much about it. Talk to her and ask what her deal is, then we can proceed from there.”

“My eyes instantly shift to Bristol again, a soft sigh escaping my lips, which causes Brady to laugh. “You’re hooked, aren’t you?”

I pause for a moment and consider what he just said. Am I hooked on a girl that I’ve never laid eyes on before today? I don’t know, but I do know one thing. If there’s one woman I would trade my little black book in for, it would be her.

I shake my head, trying to clear my thoughts before shrugging my shoulders. “There’s just something about her that calls to me.”

EXCERPTS

#1

Frazer’s lips pinched and he suddenly looked tired. “A vehicle transporting Leech and three other convicts plus two guards was found submerged in a river late this afternoon. Police divers were able to access the vehicle but only one man was found inside. He was dead. At this point we don’t know if the other prisoners and guards are dead or alive. Most likely they drowned, but if they didn’t drown…”

“If he didn’t drown,” said Hope, “if Julius Leech somehow survived and escaped that vehicle, he’ll be on his way to Boston to make good on his promises from the last trial.”

To rape her. To kill her.

Heat coursed through her veins and sharpened her senses. She bared her teeth in a silent snarl. “Let that motherfucker try.”

#2

“Do you have specialized combat training that I am unaware of?” He kept his voice firm, suspecting she’d scent and exploit weakness like a fox scented and exploited a rabbit.

Her eyes narrowed. “I have the fury of a woman whose child and husband were cold-bloodedly murdered by that sonofabitch.”

Emotion vibrated through the words, but he ignored it. His job was tactical, not emotional. It ran on logic and preparation. And maybe it ran a little on luck, but he wasn’t about to admit that to a principal who was this antagonistic. He needed to gain her trust and her confidence if they were to work together effectively.

“Sometimes,” he said quietly, “that isn’t enough.”

Something flickered in those icy depths before she looked away. “It’s all I have left.”

“Not true, counselor.” Lincoln Fraser produced a wide smile that showed he didn’t mind a little danger. “You also have the protection of the FBI.”

“Whether I like it or not.” The glimpse of vulnerability was gone, replaced by bitterness.

Aaron couldn’t blame her for her anger, but her attitude could make his job more difficult and put his teammates at risk. He wouldn’t stand for the latter. Their jobs were dangerous enough without a client with a death wish.

#3

“I don’t want you here.”

He paused, his dark, intelligent gaze steady on hers. “That message has been received loud and clear.”

“Not enough to make a difference.”

“We’re simply following orders, ADA Harper. None of this is personal.”

“I don’t know if that makes it better or worse.” She took a sip of wine. “The Attorney General is covering her ass, knowing the justice system will look weak if anything happens to a serving ADA—by a killer who is supposed to be incarcerated by that same system no less. Doesn’t exactly engender public trust.”

“Escaped convicts are never a good look. I realize that this situation is not something you asked for or are comfortable with.” He straightened. Those ebony eyes were soft now. Soft enough that she noticed his full bottom lip. “I will do everything I can to make sure you have the space you need in your own home.”

She looked away and picked up her fork. “I prefer my own company.”

“So do I.” He caught her quick glance at the photograph on the cabinet. “You miss them.”

She drew in a ragged breath. “Every day. Every second of every day.” The words barely got past the rock in her throat.

“I’m sorry for what happened.”

“Most people think it’s my fault.” Tears built and she couldn’t afford for anyone else to see, to witness, how utterly she’d been destroyed that day. The world saw what she wanted it to see. A strong, confident, powerful woman. A goddamn queen bitch of an attorney. Tonight, in the aftermath of learning Leech had escaped and her life had been invaded by strangers, her defenses had cracked, and emotions welled up through those tiny fissures like blood in a wound. She couldn’t afford that. She had other cases to try, other people to help and other killers to convict. She wouldn’t let them down the way she’d let down her own family.

This was her penance, her reason for going on.

“Please don’t worry, Ava. Your baby is safe with me. I’m going to take care of her like she’s my own…”

Ever since my daughter Isa was born, I’ve been struggling. I can’t remember anything, and my brain is in a fog. So when my husband Ned suggests we hire a night nanny, I leap at the chance.

As soon as she walks into our home, I feel a wave of relief. I smile at her and notice her eyes are the color of amethysts. A memory flashes across my brain, but before I can grasp it, it’s gone.

But something isn’t right. Ned is acting strangely and every time I ask him why, he tells me I’m being paranoid. But I’ve seen him whispering to our nanny and it makes me nervous. He was the one who wanted to hire her, and now I’m wondering why…

Then my engagement ring goes missing. Ned is furious—it cost a fortune—but I know I haven’t misplaced it. I always hide it in the same place, and no one knows where except him.

But then it gets worse. Our nanny accuses me of leaving my baby face down on her stomach, struggling to breathe. I might be exhausted, but I would never do that. But when I look to Ned for support, I can see he doesn’t believe me.

I feel like an outsider in my own home. Am I going mad, or is someone trying to destroy me?

The totally gripping page-turning psychological thriller with twists that will leave you guessing until the very last page. Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid, The Girl on theTrain and Colleen Hoover’s Verity.

Excerpt:

Prologue

Dearest Mama~

If you don’t hear from me again, I’m dead.

I’m scared. This place is creepy. It’s dark and damp and smells really bad. Musty and medicinal, and I just saw a rat. Somewhere a girl is crying. It sounds like she’s in terrible pain. And when I went to use the bathroom, there was blood in the toilet. So much blood I almost threw up.

It didn’t look so bad on the outside; in fact, it looked like one of those beautiful homes you work in. All brick, two stories, with a shrub-and-flower-filled yard, and it overlooked a crystal-blue lake. An attractive woman in an elegant suit met me at the front door and instructed me to use a side entrance that led to the birthing clinic in the basement.

Right now, I’m sitting here all by myself in the waiting room on a hard wooden chair, one arm folded across my big, swollen belly. I so wish you were here with me, but I know that if you took a day off from work, that awful couple whose ginormous house you clean would fire you in a second. One day when I become a famous actress, you won’t have to work for people like that anymore. If I have it my way, you’ll never have to work again, and you and Em can live with me and my baby in our Beverly Hills mansion.

The girl’s crying is getting louder. It sounds like she’s dying! I want to cover my ears, but someone is calling out my name.

A woman in a white uniform. She’s tall and intimidating. Her name is Nurse Bates. I see it on her name tag. She flashed me a smile, so maybe she’s nice.

A high-pitched scream is mingling with the sobs, and someone just burst through the door to the delivery room. It’s a little girl with waist-length blonde ringlets who’s clad in a frilly pink dress. She looks a few years older than Em. Maybe age eight or nine. So pale, she looks like she just saw a ghost.

The nurse yelled at her to go upstairs. But first the poor little thing dashed to the bathroom before I could stop her. When she came back out, vomit was splattered all over her pretty dress. Our eyes connected, hers wide with terror, and then she ran up the stairs as fast as her feet could carry her.

A sharp voice is ringing out at the top of the stairs. “There you are, you naughty child! I’ve been looking all over for you! You should have NEVER gone down there!”

I recognize it. It’s the woman who met me at the front door. She sounds very angry. I can no longer see or hear the frightened little girl. Oh, Lord!! I hope she doesn’t get into trouble.

In the meantime, the sobs have gone silent. The girl before me must have had her baby. Now it’s my turn. I’m freaking out. More than a little.

I’m wearing the beautiful necklace with the small gold cross you gave me and hope it will bring me good luck. That it won’t hurt  and there’ll be no complications.

Guess what?! The baby just kicked and I feel a tingle of excitement. I can’t wait to give birth and hold her in my arms. And I can’t wait for you and Em to meet her.

Sorry, I’ve got to go. Nurse Bates is giving me the stink eye. I’m going to give her this letter and ask her to mail it to you. I hope she’s someone I can trust.

Just one last thing… if something does happen to me or my baby, promise you’ll never forget the man who forced me to come to this horrible place.

And to NEVER forgive him.

He needs to pay.

Forever~ Your loving daughter

Here’s your first look at Jasper!

“I don’t think I can resist tasting those lips again. I’ve tried.”

“I’ve tried, too.” I admit. But I’ve thought about it more than I should. Wondered if there was still the slight taste of mint from his toothpaste.

“So we’re gonna give in together, right?” He licks his lips, as if he’s warming his mouth up for what’s about to happen.

“Yeah, if that’s what you need in order to sleep at night. We can pretend like you’re not the one driving this boat.”

Jasper drops his head low. “Pretty sure you’re right here with me, Daisy Mae. Unless you turn your head at the last minute, you’re about to know what my lips on yours is all about. Ya know, in case you forgot.”

I didn’t forget, will never forget.

Book Blurb:

I never thought my fake marriage, would become real…

Jasper Hamilton

I’ve always been a pawn in the game of chess my grandfather prefers to play with me. It started when I was a child who didn’t have anywhere else to go after my parents were killed.

Gone was my home full of love and warmth, and in its place was a mansion with a man as cold as a winter night.

The only thing that kept me sane were my friends. Those blue-collar buddies who didn’t care about my grandpa’s bank account.

I never cared about the money either. Until he threatens to take away the one thing I love in this world. The foundation created in their memory. The only way for me to get it back? Play by his rules, take a wife, and secure an heir.

Something I never planned to do after growing up the way I did. But the way I respond to Daisy Williams, and the satisfaction I get from calling her my wife makes me feel like I’ve been promoted from Pawn to King.

Earning her place among them was the easy part.

Leslie Beckett had been the glue holding her family together since her mother disappeared not long after her birth. As a witch, a dragon shifter, and the only daughter in a household of male dragon shifters, she’d had to train harder. Be the best. She’d always crave the hunt. Yet the innate tug of magic made her feel most alive.

Tyler Jackson followed his sister to Rayner, leaving his career as a police officer on Earth behind. Ditching his ties to his undercover ops position proved more difficult though. So he put those skills to work when granted a spot on the alpha’s elite team. He was nothing if not ruthlessly efficient in his role.

When a ghost from the past shocks the clan, nothing is as it seems. As the guardian of the long awaited prophesy, Leslie plots a way forward. Tyler is a welcome distraction, igniting feelings Leslie is unprepared for. And he can’t get the wickedly talented, pretty princess out of his head.

Meanwhile, the rogue fae quietly claim the minds of loved ones in their own quest for the elusive prophesy. Can Leslie and Tyler’s growing bond prove stronger than the forces of fate uniting against them?

*Readers can expect healthy doses of hot shifters, naughty language, and intimate time with a fated mate, all wrapped up in a happily ever after. Can be read as a standalone romance but best enjoyed in the order written.

The futility of his statement hit him as their eyes met and held. Leslie would always be in danger. Instinctively he understood that. Her prophetic powers would only get stronger from here on out, ensuring that she’d be an ongoing target. He’d just have to make it his life’s work to keep her safe because he couldn’t imagine a world without her in it.

Blurb:

A steamy friends with benefits, surprise pregnancy standalone novel by romantic comedy author Gia Stevens…

We went from fling to friend-zone. Now I have to tell him he’s going to be a dad.

After my ex-husband left, I became a single mom and vowed never to date a guy in a suit again.

Then Trey Wilson entered my life. The guy who lives in suits. He’s charismatic, good-looking, and charming AF.

Everything that can make any woman swoon, including me.

What started as a one-night fling turned into a mid-morning office quickie, followed by an afternoon rendezvous in my kitchen. Which ultimately led to the purchase of a new table.

After I told him we can only be friends, he’s determined to be my best friend. The more time we spend together, the boundary between friends and benefits blur.

Deep down, I know he’s exactly like the others. Once they get what they want, they’re out the door, leaving me to pick up the pieces of my broken heart. Been there. Done that. And I have a daughter to prove it.

So the moment emotions get involved, I quickly suppress them and do what I know is right.

I end whatever this is.

Except now I can’t do that when the white stick shows two pink lines.

I peer up at him. “Are benefits still on the table?”

He turns toward me. The pad of his thumb caresses the apple of my cheek. His hand continues to glide across my skin until his fingers thread through my hair. His large palm warms my cheek. “No.”

My stomach falls. It was inevitable this would have to end, but I was hoping it wasn’t tonight.

With his other hand he grips my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze. “I don’t want benefits. You’re worth more than just benefits. But I’ll take whatever you give me.”

A slow smile spreads over my lips. “Can we go to your house?”

“Absolutely.”

He opens the passenger door and I slide in. While he rounds the hood, I click my seatbelt into place. We’ve had sex before, but the butterflies are fluttering faster this time. Maybe because it’s not a spontaneous, spur of the moment thing. Instead, I have the entire drive to his house to think about it. Trey climbs in and starts his SUV. He glances over at me while reaching his hand over the center console and intertwining his fingers with mine. It’s the simplest gesture, but one that calms my erratic heartbeat.

The short ride to his house is silent, but the way his thumb brushes over the back of my hand says everything I need to know right now. I want Trey.

His neighborhood is a far cry from my tiny apartment complex. Enormous houses with even bigger lawns line the streets. A pang of guilt hits me as this is something I’ll never be able to give Abby. A neighborhood filled with other kids to run around and play with. Or a backyard to build a fort or play kickball in.

As we approach a navy blue split-level house, he turns left and pulls into the sunken attached garage. I yank myself out of my thoughts. No pity parties tonight. There’s only room for one party, and that’s between my legs.

The garage door closes, and we both step out, but before we reach the door to the house, my heels that I never put back on slip from my fingers, dropping to the floor with a clatter. Trey twists around and I throw myself into his arms, slamming my lips to his. Without breaking our connection, he twists us around and cages me against the front fender. A shiver runs down my spine as he threads his fingers through my hair, cupping my head as he deepens the kiss. I wrap my arms around his waist and tug him to me, wanting to feel all of him. A low moan escapes his throat.

He pulls away, but his lips linger on mine. “Did I tell you this is the best friendship I’ve ever had?”

BLURB

From Amazon #1 bestselling author Amy Daws, comes an all-new small town, spicy romance sure to hit you in the gut with laughs, feels, and mountain man grunts.

Help Wanted: Grumpy Mountain Man seeks baby momma. Job is an incubator position only. Surrogate must be impervious to grunting in the form of communication and nosey brotherly neighbors. Rustic mountain range housing available upon request.

I wanted to pummel my irritating brothers when they posted their own version of a wanted ad to help me with my life.

But I can’t fault the results once the right woman lands on my lap.

Becoming a single father is not a decision I made lightly. In fact, it’s the biggest decision of my entire life.

Which is why when I interview Trista, I know she’s perfect.

She’s wild, she’s opinionated, she wears cowboy boots. Even my pet goat loves her…

She’s the exact type of person I was holding out for.

And to my great horror, I realize on our first night of attempting this baby making dance…when the lights are low, the cheap wine is flowing, and the home insemination supplies are laid out on the kitchen counter…

I want to do a lot more than just make her my surrogate.

I want to make her mine.

EXCERPT

Excerpt #1

“Who is the pen for?” I ask, staring up at the giant mountain man.

“Your pig.”

My eyes widen. “You expect my Reginald to sleep in the barn?”

“Where else would he sleep?”

“In his sleeping quarters upstairs next to me, obviously.”

“Come again?” Wyatt is loud in the quietness of the peaceful barn.

“Reggie is a rescue, Wyatt! He came from a horrible situation where the owners neglected him. He had hoof rot and couldn’t freaking walk. I had to give him daily doses of antibiotics and hand-feed him, or they were going to put him down!”

“Jesus Christ,” Wyatt murmurs under his breath, looking away in obvious agitation.

“Sir Reginald sleeps on a nice little crib mattress I bought second-hand. He even has a special blanket and likes to sleep in most mornings.”

Wyatt’s head snaps to the open wooden stairs leading to the apartment. “How are you going to get him up the stairs every day? Those legs don’t look long enough to climb stairs.”

“I’ll carry him.” I shrug.

The mountain man’s eyebrows shoot to the moon as he points an accusing finger at Reggie. “He’s got to weigh at least fifty pounds.”

“Sixty-five, actually, but my vet friend just put us on a low-calorie feed even though I think Reggie is beautiful just the way he is.”

“For fuck’s sake,” Wyatt growls and jams a hand through the top of his hair. “You aren’t going to be able to carry him up those stairs when you’re pregnant, Trista.”

“Well, I’m not pregnant yet.” I scoff, my chin cocking up to meet his as he looms over me with his giant mountain-man stature.

He pauses for a second as his eyes rove over my face. His voice is deep and husky when he replies, “Yet.”

Goose bumps erupt over my flesh as one of the tiniest words in the English language just had a massive impact on my not-so-tiny body. I realize I’m a surrogate so we’re not doing this pregnancy thing the old-fashioned way, but it’s been a while since I’ve been laid, and with that one little word, my traitorous mind wandered to a reality where we did it the old-fashioned way. And I liked that thought.

I swallow slowly, desperate to get control of myself. I glance down at our chests, which are nearly brushing each other. When did we get so close? His scent of pine trees, woodchips, and hay is intoxicating.

Wyatt’s eyes flick down to my lips as I wonder what the hell are we actually arguing about? I want to be pregnant. And I suppose he’s right…I shouldn’t be lifting sixty-plus pounds once I have a baby growing inside me. I guess Reginald’s sleeping quarters never came up in all our lawyer negotiating.

And why is he looking at me like that? And why does my body feel the way it feels right now? I’m hot and agitated having him so close to me and telling me what to do. I like it, and I loathe it.

The voices of men outside force us to pull away from each other just as they walk into the barn with armloads of my stuff.

“Trista, these are my brothers Calder and Luke.” Wyatt’s voice is strained as he avoids eye contact with me. Oh, he’s mad mad.

The two giant men in flannel stop talking and gape at me for a moment. The heavily tattooed one with devilish eyes tips his chin up and says, “What’s up, MB?”

Wyatt glowers at his brother. “Calder…”

The slightly smaller one (although none of them are small, honestly…I’m in a barn full of flannelled giants) with floppy blond hair laughs boyishly, clearly enjoying the tension between his two brothers.

“What’s MB mean?” I ask curiously.

“Don’t ask,” another voice echoes from behind them.

Calder and Luke spread apart to reveal what I can only assume to be another brother.

“This is my eldest brother, Max,” Wyatt explains with a wave of his hand. “He doesn’t live up here on the mountain with us though.”

My brows lift knowingly. “Didn’t want to join in on the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers remake up here?”

Excerpt #2

“Since we’ve determined it’s not my face making you violently ill, maybe that means we can be more than just a surrogate and intended parent.” I gesture to her and then to me. “Maybe we can be friends?”

“Friends.” She repeats the word like she’s never said it before, her eyes roving over my face for a long moment before a soft smile lights up her eyes. “I guess we can try it.”

My brows lift in satisfaction at how easy that was for her to agree to. Then again, I’m pretty sure she’s dehydrated from morning sickness and probably doesn’t have her normal fight in her, but I’ll take the win.

“Well, as your new friend, I have to ask…did I see a rabbit in here earlier this morning?”

Trista’s eyes widen as she presses her lips together. Timidly, she reaches under the covers and pulls out an orange-and-white rabbit. She clutches it to her chest as her fingers stroke its floppy ears. “This is Strudel.”

“Come again?” I grind out, pulling away from her and the living fuzzball in her hands.

“She’s an English lop rabbit and was turned over at the rescue facility two days ago. Earl said she couldn’t stay there because they didn’t have the space.”

“What is she doing here?” I ask, shaking my head back and forth.

Trista smiles. “I thought she could live here with me?”

“You know how I feel about pets in the apartment.”

“I thought that was just pigs,” she says, her teeth sinking into her lower lip. “But she’s too little to be down in the barn with Reginald, and she’s really well-behaved. She sleeps in a cage at night. And just feel how soft her fur is.”

“I do not—” My voice is cut off when Trista starts dragging the rabbit along my cheek. The warm little furball makes a weird squeaky noise as its coat catches on my beard.

“Soft, right?” Her eyes are bright and hopeful as she waits for my reaction.

“Can you please stop booping the rabbit on my nose?” I pull her arm away from my face. “I don’t want animals up here.”

She sighs heavily. “Fine, I’ll get rid of her.”

“Thank you.”

I stand to make my way toward the door and hear her say, “I’m sure someone will adopt her just to turn her into lucky rabbit-foot key chains. Lucky for them…not for poor Strudel.”

I pause, my eyes rolling to the ceiling.

“Or maybe they’ll turn her into a hearty rabbit stew,” she adds, her voice cracking. “Never mind that she was the only one who snuggled me when I was puking my guts out this week because of this precious baby inside me.”

I turn and eye her warily. “I know what you’re doing.”

Her nose wrinkles. “It’s fine. I don’t need that kind of comfort these next nine months. It wasn’t a part of the contract, and we’re not friends or anything, so…” Her voice trails off as she clutches the tiny animal to her cheek, dropping soft kisses on its long ears while hitting me with puppy dog eyes. My mind briefly flashes to the sight of a little girl with her eyes, begging me for a puppy.

The baby could have her eyes.

I drop my head and aggressively rub my hand over it, trying to put those thoughts well away. With a heavy sigh, I begrudgingly murmur, “Okay, friend, the rabbit can stay.”

Blurb

“Didn’t we go over this?” I push off until I’m standing to my full height and hold up one finger. “Dinner sounds like a date.” I add a second finger. “Dates lead to relationships.”

“It’s dinner. It’s not like I’m asking for your hand in marriage. Unless that will help my chances. I’ll get on one knee right now.”

“Guess what I think about that?”

“What?”

With my other two fingers still in the air, I add a third. Then I curl my pointer and ring finger to my palm leaving only my middle finger.

A grin curls around his full lips. “That was good. But I don’t speak finger, so you have to give me a good reason why?”

“Because you’re… Trey.”

“That’s not a good reason.”

“You’re not my type.”

“Sexy. Confident. Well-endowed aren’t your type?”

I snort a laugh. “More like cocky and full of himself aren’t my type. Plus, you wear a suit.”

“What’s wrong with the suit?” He runs his hands down the lapels of his jacket.

“Nothing per se, but I just don’t do suits. They’re too…suity. It only adds to the cocky and arrogant thing you got going on.” I wave my hand over his body.

“Well, I can fix that.” Trey stands and removes his suit jacket and drapes it over the backrest of his stool. His fingers dig into the knot of his tie, loosening it. Next, he pops the button at his collar.

“What are you doing?” I ask.

“Taking off the suit.”

“You’re going to strip? Right here, in a full bar?”

“Yup.” He undoes a couple more buttons.

I want to tear my gaze away, but I can’t. Instead, I spit out whatever words I can muster. “Keep your clothes on. No one wants to see you naked.”

Nora smacks my arm, and I jerk my head to face her. From the corner of her mouth she says, “Speak for yourself. I kinda want to see what he’s packing underneath.”

I narrow my gaze at her. She shrugs and slinks away but keeps a close eye on Trey in case he does remove the rest of his clothes. She wouldn’t want to miss that. Hell, right now I don’t want to miss it either.

Trey clears his throat and I twist around to meet his gaze. “So, what’s it going to be? Am I getting naked right here or are we going on a date?
