From Bestselling Paranormal Romance Author Lisa Olsen

I’m not hiding who I am. Well, I’m hiding what I am, because you don’t just say Hey, everybody, I’m Scarlett and I’m a shifter at the first mixer. All I want is the chance to go to college with normal people and lead a normal life for a change, maybe even meet a normal guy. I’ve just been too chicken to go after it until now.

I’m making friends, I even met a cute guy who seems into me. Everything’s working out like I’d hoped. Except for this other guy, Kane, who thinks he has to protect me, just because we’re both wolves. Every time I turn around he’s there with his dark, piercing stares and his deep, sexy voice that somehow manages to get past my defenses. I left my pack back home for a new start. The last thing I want is to get caught up in any shifter drama, no matter how sexy the package it comes wrapped up in is.

Kane is exactly the kind of man I don’t want. Bossy, infuriating, insisting he knows what’s best without even asking me, and so freaking hot, his ego’s the size of Texas. I especially hate it when he’s right. It turns out there are scarier things out there than midterms, and they’re after me.

* * *

The last thing Kane’s looking for is a mate – but that’s exactly what his Alpha has ordered him to bring home. A very specific mate. Adding Scarlett LaRoche to the pack will cement his ties to her pack and the prophecy, which puts him one step closer to the ultimate power. But can he seduce a girl that doesn’t want to be seduced?

Challenge accepted.

*** Scarlett Moon is a shifter paranormal romance with steamy sex and violence, and should not be read by those under 18. It can be read as a stand alone book, or as part of The Wolves of Cutter’s Folly, and has a HEA. ***

Kane had me under his spell, and I felt a flutter of panic as I realized I’d made a big mistake in agreeing to this dance. But suddenly, I realized he was under mine as well. I could feel the effect of the tiniest shift in my hips all along his body, and the desperate way his hands smoothed over my skin. He was mine, every bit as much as I was his in that moment.

It was a definite high, knowing he was completely attuned to my every move. I felt sexy and alive in a way I’d never felt before, and part of it was because I knew I shouldn’t be doing this. Kane wasn’t what I wanted in a man.

But it was just a dance.

Turning, my back pressed against his chest, never missing a beat when his hands closed on my hips. His hot breath fanned across my neck, and my skin tingled as I sensed his hunger for more than the dance. Kane’s arm wrapped around my middle, pulling me close, and I flashed back to that hot kiss in his kitchen – the feel of his hands on my bare flesh and the rush of desire I’d felt. Was still feeling. Pressed up against the length of his body, we swayed and pulsed together to the beat of the music. At the brush of his lips against my ear, my hand stole up to wrap around the back of his neck, pulling him closer.

“Your body remembers me.” His voice was low and intimate by my ear.

It wasn’t just a dance. It was so much more.

He was right, my body throbbed for his touch, and in that moment I wanted it too. “I remember lots of things,” I whispered back, trusting his ears to pick it up through the din of the room.

“So do I. I’m a fucking idiot for letting you go that night.”

No, he’d been right to let me go instead of forcing the issue. Stopping had been the right thing to do. Just like I knew I should put on the brakes before what we were doing got too out of hand. And yet my body still moved with his, shivering with delight when I turned to face him and his fingers traced a path down my back.

“Admit it. You feel it too.” His cheek nuzzled against mine, marking me with his scent.

“I don’t want to,” I murmured, even as I erased the last breath of space between us, pressing up against him shamelessly.

“You’re mine,” Kane growled, his fingers sinking into my hair to tip my face up before he took my lips. I opened my mouth to him, awash in the taste of him, drowning in his scent. The kiss in his kitchen had been a pale shadow of the heat that sparked between us on the crowded dance floor. I’d never had anyone take control of me like that.

I was utterly his prisoner, trapped by the cage of his arms. One hand held my head in place while the other clutched at my hip as he took what he wanted. He growled again, a primal sound that touched something deep inside me, and I clutched him tighter, my nails raking against his back in my desperation to get closer to him. My reservations were gone. Kane was everything I wanted in a man and the only man for me as I kissed him back with everything I had.

I am a writer, wife, and mother of two currently living in the Pacific Northwest. I am a complete TV addict (have to have it on at all times, even when I’m writing). I also enjoy online RPG’s, singing, reading, cooking… lots more I can’t think of at the moment.

The supernatural has long been my favorite to write and read. Werewolves, vampires, witchcraft, ghosts, things that go bump in the night; these are a few of my favorite things to write about. Not sparkly beings with phenomenal cosmic power that are always the smartest, bravest, prettiest Mary Sue to walk the planet, but real people who just happen to have this little quirk…

I’ve just published my 27th book, Scarlett Moon (The second of my Wolves of Cutter’s Folly shifter books). I’m currently working on Carter, which takes place in the Forged Bloodlines vampire universe.

What would you do if a five hundred year old witch wanted to turn your body into her new home?

Morcant and Blake Korrigan own a little shop of horrors, where witches congregate and people ending up dead isn’t rare. When Karen Hiltzman joins their coven, she has no idea what she’s getting into.
Drawn in, the group convinces her to recruit her best friend, Sarah Matthews, after discovering that she bears a very special birthmark; one that indicates she’s the girl they’ve been waiting for.

Eager to reincarnate a witch put to death by an angry mob five hundred years prior, Morcant unleashes a spell; a dark and sinister curse. His ritual transforms Sarah’s body and will bring the dreaded Brenna back to life when it’s completed. Blake wants to stop him; but will he be strong enough to defeat his elder sibling, and if he does… will he be able to let her go when it’s done?

MA – 18+  V – violence       S – sexual content      L – coarse language

Filling the kettle and placing it on the stove, Karen recalled the meeting with the group, when their plans had been placed into motion. She had mentioned Sarah’s birthmark to Ninia before, pointing out how it looked so much like a swirling spirituality symbol.
However, it wasn’t until Genevieve had gotten wind of the oddity that any real interest had stirred within the crowd, and they had asked her to bring Sarah in to meet them.
“You aren’t going to hurt her, are you?” Karen had asked hesitantly.“Of course not!” Genevieve had soothed. “We want to set her free!” The young woman’s lips had parted into a small grin as she spoke, exposing her straight white teeth.

Karen stared at her pan with large brown orbs, her mind trapped in that moment. “It won’t be easy,” she had replied, “She hasn’t believed in any of this stuff in years.” She shuddered and adjusted the fire before her.

“That’s ok,” Morcant had cut in, stepping up to her and allowing his fingers to trace her jaw. “We’ll convince her; no need to worry about that.” Leaning closer, his mouth had covered hers in a soft kiss.

Drawn to the older man, Karen had felt as if his spirit mingled with hers. Deepening the kiss, she had moaned and pressed her body against him for a long moment before he pulled away.

“See?” his nose nuzzled her cheek, “This is a warm and safe place…” he had paused, extracting himself from her grasp, “Bring your friend; allow her to experience the feel of the coven and to be wrapped in
its power.”

The sound of the boiling water drew her back to the present, and Karen cut off the flame. She poured the hot liquid into her waiting cup, adding a few cubes of sugar before she took a seat at the kitchen table and stared out the tiny window that overlooked a small grassy patch behind the house; ‘you shouldn’t let him do that to you.’

Several times over the last year, she had been in such a situation with the group; a point where she felt trepidation and fear at what lay before her. Each time, it had been Morcant who had spurred her onward. ‘His touch is intoxicating,’ she admitted quietly to herself. ‘His fingers caress with the feel of magic,’ and the kiss had put her over the edge.
‘Of course it’s magic;’ her mood shifted to angry, ‘they’re witches, after all!’ But this had gotten out of hand. At some
point, it had become too real, and she no longer wanted to be a part of it. However, she could not escape. It felt as if Morcant had her in his grasp, under some dark spell, and she would do his bidding.
Taking another tentative sip, she cut her eyes up at the ceiling above her, as if she could see her friend in her tiny room on the third floor. ‘I wonder what they really want with her.’ She hadn’t dared to ask, and had done her best to convince Sarah to attend a meeting with her of her own free will. In the end, the girl had refused, and put them on their current path; ‘they’re going to have her, willing or not.’

It had taken all Karen’s strength to complete her task today, and remember not to touch the shiny medallion that Morcant had presented to her. He had cursed it somehow, and she had noticed that he took great care when he placed it in the bag for Sarah. ‘A powerful amulet, he said.’

Dragging her gaze back to the glass and the sunshine beyond, she tried not to think about what would happen next.

Weird Facts About Witches:

In Sweden, Easter is associated with witches. It was once believed that in the days leading up to Easter Sunday, Swedish witches would fly up chimneys on their brooms to meet and revel on mountaintops. These days, children dress up as witches and go door to door seeking treats, similar to trick-or-treating.

Anyone who knows me could tell you, I am a friendly kind of person, never met a stranger and take up conversations any where at any time. I work hard, and my mind never seems to
shut down, as I wake up often in the middle of the night with ideas pouring out and demanding to be dealt with. Of course that means much of my books were written in the middle of the night.

I grew up and still live in the great state of Texas where everything is bigger, where we have warm weather and a central location. I love my state, my town, and my family, which includes my four sons, my significant other, and many friends as well.

I have thoroughly enjoyed writing the books that are currently available and hope you will enjoy reading them just as much. And of course, there will be many more stories to come.

EXCERPT REVEAL ~ Love Unspoken (Flawed Love series #2) by Lisa De Jong

excerpt reveal love unspoken

EXCERPT

I finally walk in the office two minutes after eight. I’m late for the first time in six months, and I don’t even care. Sometimes when life weighs you down, you simply stop caring.
The elevator opens to my floor, and I step out in somewhat of a trance—a mix of tired, hung-over, and confused. Monday feels like Friday, and that’s never a good sign.
A strong arm wraps around me from behind, pulling me back into a dark room. I’m ready to fight back, but his familiar scent tickles my nose, and I relax.
“You’re late.” His breath hits the back of my neck.
“I overslept. It won’t happen again.”
His fingers curl against the fabric of my navy blue shift dress. “Does your new perfume have a hint of tequila in it?” he asks.
“You don’t like it?” I ask, hiding from the truth.
“Don’t fuck with me, Ms. Fields. Who did you drink with last night because it wasn’t me?”
“Why do you have to be so smart?”
“Lila.”
I close my eyes tightly, praying for forgiveness in advance. “I may have had a few shots last night before bed.”
He spins me around in his arms, and it’s only then that I realize he pulled us into a small conference room. He has me pressed against the wall, his arms framing my face. “I’ve never known a person to do shots alone.”
Even with only the dim light showing through the partially open door, I can see his eyes. “I wasn’t alone.”
He pushes against the door until it closes then frames me in again. There’s nowhere to run. No lies to tell. “I don’t want him there alone with you. Just thinking about it is making me sick.”
I swallow my regret. I can’t do anything about what’s already been done.
“Move in with me,” he says, his lips a whisper above mine. I answer the only way I can, standing on my tiptoes to press my lips on his. I want him to forget just as much as I need to stop thinking.
He grips the back of my neck, deepening the kiss by pressing his tongue between my lips. I’m lost in him—swept away by the waves he creates from head to toe. I splay my hands on his stomach, feeling his taut muscles through his crisp dress shirt. I slide them up until my fingers meet behind his neck, curling into his hair.
“I’m not a jealous man,” he breathes as his mouth trails a path down my throat.
“Okay,” I say softly, my body aching for his.
“But you make me jealous.”
I wrap my arms tightly around his neck. “I love you,” I whisper into his ear.
He groans, lifting me until my legs are wrapped around his hips. My dress is short … it wouldn’t take much.
The door clicks, but his lips stay on me. I open my mouth, but the light comes on, warning him before I can. He looks up but doesn’t move to put me down. My cheeks burn red when I see who’s standing there.
“Sorry, Mr. Stanley,” Jane, the receptionist says, her own face turning a deep shade of red. “You asked me to bring Mr. Stone in here. I didn’t-”
“It’s okay, Jane. I’ve got it from here,” Pierce interrupts. She wastes no time before disappearing around the corner. Not that I blame her.
My face only burns hotter when I see Blake standing where she’d been. He’s not looking at Pierce … just me. The color drains from his face as he steps back, lowering his wounded eyes. I don’t want to watch, but I also can’t look away.
My chest tightens as I loosen my grip on Pierce and fight to stand on my own two feet again. He lets me, but his body is still flush with mine.
“Let me go,” I say, trying my best to make it so Blake doesn’t hear.
He does, slowly, adjusting my skirt along the way. “Now he knows,” he whispers against my ear before pulling away.
My eyes widen as I watch him take a seat at the conference room table. He looks back at me before turning his attention to Blake. There’s nothing I’d like to do more than disappear from this room, but I fear for each of their safety if I do.
“Are you going to come sit down, Blake, or are we holding this meeting in the hallway?” Pierce asks, leaning back in his chair. For a second, he reminds me of Wade; I hate comparing the two.
I glance over at Blake. He’s pondering, hands fisted at his side, eyes narrowed in on the man I was entangled with just minutes ago. A still frame of it could definitely go next to uncomfortable in the dictionary. “Did you call me here for a meeting, Stanley, or did you call me here to prove that you have bigger balls?”
Pierce has a smug look on his face, but as he looks over at me, his expression softens instantly. If he thought this was going to be okay—that I was somehow going to not see through him—he was wrong. He didn’t just hurt Blake; he hurt me.
His eyes shift back to Blake. “A meeting, of course. We just lost track of time.”
Blake steps into the room, walking right past me to the side the table opposite Pierce. I watch—panicked—as he leans over the table. “I swear to God … if you are using her to get back at me, I will fucking kill you. She’s not a prize. She’s not a way to punish me, and so help me God, if you hurt her-”
Pierce stands swiftly, leaning in until their faces are only about a foot apart. “I would never hurt her because I love her. Do you know what love is because I seriously doubt it.” My heart races, and I have no idea what to do to make this all stop. “And while we’re having our man to man, I’m going to warn you once to stay the fuck away from her outside of work. I was the one who picked up the pieces you left behind, and I’m not going to sit here and let you hurt her again.”
“I was protecting her,” Blake says through gritted teeth.
Pierce tilts his head, the look on his face absolutely murderous. “I forgot how good you are at protecting women.”

Excerpt

Now that we’ve spoken, she’s not afraid of me anymore. She smiles and sometimes giggles when she passes by me. I love hearing her laugh; it brings me peace. I can’t help but chuckle or grin each time.

He’s been my friend for years and has never known that I’m attracted to him. I would do anything for him if he were to ask, but he never does. He thinks I like to watch a woman with him, when in reality, I only like watching him.

Now though…now he has her, and I want them both. I’ve never felt so torn before. I don’t want them for just a fuck. I’ve had them for that. Not him completely, but we’ve been close. I dream of grasping his hair and thrusting into him roughly while I kiss her mouth. I doubt that fantasy will ever come true though.

She catches me watching them and flashes a bright smile, excitedly waving her hand at me. I grin and give her a slight wave back.

“You didn’t give me what I want either, so now I’m going to take from you what I want even more.” His tongue dips out to wet his lips, and he bites the bottom one for just a second. For some reason, my eyes zoom in on it, and they forget for just a second what’s going on here.

“You’ll like it … don’t worry,” he muses, stepping even closer so he can smell me.

I turn my head to the side while he sniffs me, trying to lean away, but it seems it only makes him come closer. He places a soft kiss on my neck, his tongue drawing a line upward toward my ear. Right before he nibbles my ear, he hovers in front of it, and for a second, I think I can hear him smile.

He hisses, “I love your smell. Your taste. They make me so fucking hard.”

Suddenly, his hand is on my breast, kneading, tugging, and twisting. Everything and anywhere, all at the same time. Sensory overload makes me gasp, and when my mouth opens, he covers it with his. He takes my breath quite literally, kissing me until my moan is silenced, kissing me with everything he has. His taste is familiar, intoxicating, and for a second, I forget that I’m even hanging here. His tongue expertly licks the roof of my mouth, his lips brushing mine with equal fervor.

“This is what I’ll take from you,” he murmurs into my mouth.

His free hand slides down my body and past my inner thighs, pushing my legs apart as he starts rubbing me. I feel humiliated. Used. Shameful, for actually feeling my pussy thump from having him touch me.

“Hmm … you like it when I touch you.” It’s not even a question.

“No …” I say, shaking my head.

He grins. “Yes, you do.” He pushes a finger on top of my clit. “Right here.”

I moan when he rubs it with his index finger and then brings his thumb into the play to roll my clit. Wetness is building inside me as my core clenches, desperate to fight off the arousal, but my body is a fool for his touch.

My mind has been deprived for too long, and when he offers me this release, I’m too weak to fight it. It crosses my mind that perhaps, if I give this to him, he’ll be more gentle with me. Maybe, if I give him anything he wants, he’ll let me go.

It might be a futile thought, but it’s here, and it’s not going anywhere.

“Don’t think I’m doing this for your pleasure, Sky.” He groans. “Oh, no. I’m doing this because I want to watch you writhe from my finger.”

Still twisting and pulling my nipples with one hand, he’s driving me crazy with lust, as the other expertly builds the desire between my legs.

“I’m going to watch you come, and you’re going to enjoy it, and then hate yourself for liking it. And tomorrow, we’ll do the same thing. And then again … and again …”

“Stop …” I moan.

Who am I kidding? He’s not going to, and I’m not even sure I want him to stop anymore.

He’s got me under a spell, and I’m helpless to fight it.

Lucas’ hands tightened on my shoulders. He was waiting for an answer.

Mutely, I looked away.

But not so far that I couldn’t see his reaction. His expression darkened. I shivered as his gazed moved over me, at once icy in intent and flaming hot.

“That’s how you want to play it?” he asked.

Play it? I wasn’t playing, not remotely. I was…drowning? No, that couldn’t be right because I was catching fire, ignited by him, by my own desires and by something more that I didn’t dare name.

“I’m not–”

I got that much out before his mouth closed on mine, rough, hard, demanding. His tongue thrust deep, filling me with his taste, claiming me. For just an instant I hesitated, remembering my hard won independence, the ring fence of old pain separating me from the world. Then it crumbled and I opened for him, giving him with my body what I couldn’t admit to with words.

Samantha Marie Ramsden has three brothers. Craig, John and Matt. When tragedy strikes their family, Craig takes on the task of becoming his siblings legal guardian. It’s hard enough being someone’s guardian, but when you’ve only recently entered adulthood yourself it’s almost impossible to know where to draw the line between sibling and ‘parent’.

This is made even harder on him when Sam starts to get close to a long time friend, Jason. It looks like their friendship could turn into something more. An idea that Craig has never been too happy with. Spanning six years, My Heart is Yours explores family, friendship, love and much more. As well as asking the question: Would you defy family for love?

Prologue

Five and a half year old Samantha slept in her white threadbare sheets. Tonight the wind was coming through particularly strong from the cracks in the wooden boards on her window. Her small body shivered.

The door creaked open and her mother entered. Sam had the same blonde hair as her mother. Her eyes were her own though. Changing from blue, to grey, to blue-grey, to green or any combination of these colors seemingly simultaneously. Sandra’s hand approached her daughter’s shoulder and she shook her roughly awake. The clock on the wall read three o’ clock in the morning. Sam rubbed her eyes. “Come on!” Her mother said as she looked over her shoulder. “Get out of bed, now!” She grabbed a hammer from the toolbox they kept in Sam’s room, went to the boarded up window and started tearing the boards to the floor. Wood splintered through the air. “Go on.” She gestured to the window. “Get out. Go.”

Sam hesitated for half a second then climbed through. She knew she couldn’t ask questions. She got into trouble when she asked questions.

Sandra wiggled through the window; she cursed aloud as the glass cut her shoulder.

“Don’t try to run away from me!” The hoarse shout came from behind them. Sam’s father. Sam knew what it meant when he was like this.

Sandra pushed Sam into the car, ran to the other side and jumped in. “Mommy.” Sam said as they went speeding past houses. “What’s wrong?”

“If you must know, your father’s more drunk than usual. He has a gun and he says he’s gonna kill us. Satisfied?” Sam’s eyes widened as she looked in the rearview mirror. There was a car right on their tail. Sam stretched in the front seat to see who it was; she recognized the face of her father. “Mommy!” She yelled. Her mother ignored her. “The only reason I’m taking you with me is cuz as a single parent with no job I might get some money from the government.” “Mommy!” She yelled again. “Otherwise I’d just let him kill you.” The car stopped, jolted forward and stopped again. “Damn it. We’re out of gas.” Sam’s mom muttered. Sirens wailed in the background.

Beside them, Sam heard the screech of tires. Blonder hair hit Sam’s face as she turned her head toward the noise. In the car beside them her father scooted across the front seats; his eyes wild with rage. A flash of black came from behind him. Sandra frantically tried to get the car started. Too late. An arm shot out around her neck; holding her fast. Her husband held the shiny black gun to her head and before Sam could scream from the sound, the trigger boomed and her mother’s body slumped over on the steering wheel. Deep red blood gushed out of her head forming a pool on the floor.

Before Sam climbed out of the car window, her father’s eyes met hers. There was nothing there. No sorrow, no fear, no pain, no love. Nothing.

The source of the sirens came to their side. Two police cars with their lights flashing and sirens wailing. Sam clasped her little hand around the handle on the car door; the door opened easily and she fell out onto the cold asphalt. Her eyes took in a small bush about a yard away. She scurried to it and hid within it’s hard branches, lush with dark green leaves.

A young policeman shot out of his squad car and saw Sam scurry out of the corner of his eye. This was one of his first times being called – he had only recently graduated from the police academy. He had never seen such devastation. Sure, he thought, compared to a war zone this is nothing. But I’ve never seen a husband murder his wife before. With a little girl hiding in the bushes. He shook his head. All of this went through his mind before he crossed to the bush where Sam was hiding.

She tried to run but he gently caught her arm. “It’s okay, sweetie.” He said. “We’re here to help.” Her big, sad eyes stared up at him. He tried to offer her a reassuring smile, but he was rather sure that it came out more like a grimace. He picked her up and walked her over to the other policemen.

Sam was taken to an orphanage about an hour and a half away. Six months later she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Ramsden. They had three sons. Craig was ten, John was seven and Matt was four.

Craig, John and Matt were good friends with three other boys in town. Mr. and Mrs. Ramsden were friends with one or both of these boys’ parents and they had all grown up together. Chris, Shawn and Jason. It was new to have a little girl introduced into the mix.

Their town wasn’t the best town to be living in. Nearly everyone between the ages of thirteen and twenty-five either carried a gun or a blade. With the thought that it was for protection; though it didn’t always turn out that way. The town wasn’t exactly poor; they had enough money for their bills and groceries. Although there was little to no disposable income.

Sam grew up with these boys and they all kept an eye on her. Besides Matt, she and Jason were the youngest, so everyone looked out for them, even more so than Matt. They felt that Matt could more or less take care of himself. They looked out for Jason more because he was very shy and as he got older could be a nervous wreck. They looked out for Sam more because she’s a girl. Simple as that; that’s what they all said.

In February 1964 tragedy hit the Ramsden family. Four months before Sam turned sixteen her adoptive parents were killed in a car wreck by a drunk driver. Craig refused to have their family split up. He became John, Sam and Matt’s legal guardian.

By 1964 Sam had lost two sets of parents. She hoped with all of her heart to not lose anyone else.

I have a craving.

A dark urge I’ve failed to resist despite years of trying to do that very thing.

I’ve forced myself to hide behind a mask, a perfect orchestration to hide my true self.

After I met her, my wants and needs, my inner most desires changed.

She encouraged me to embrace who I truly am, and she was willing to do anything and everything I wanted, giving herself to satisfy my most carnal appetite.

Then everything in my carefully managed world came crashing down around me. A moment in time, a loss of control, and the very thing I cherish was nearly taken from me.

My fate now lies in her hands.

The very life I’ve built for myself…everything I’ve ever done now waits in purgatory, all caused by a lack of focus at a time when my most concentrated attention was needed.

The very thing I crave may now be the end of me.

Excerpt

My deepest fear is that my attempt at normalcy with Lucia will put both of us at risk. There is something about her that makes me want to get to know her, be close with her, something beyond the physical connection we have, the intensity of which still has me unsettled and uncertain.

I can’t seem to stay away; I don’t think I want to anymore.

There’s something about her that has me conflicted in the worst possible way. The fantasy of being inside her again, of making her scream in pleasure by my hands always seems to morph into darker thoughts—more sordid depraved contemplations that I have no place in imagining.

Stepping out of the shower, I wrap a towel around my waist and walk to my closet. I’ve come to the realization that although I want her close, I have to tread lightly.

It’s the best way for the both of us.

Excerpt

Without looking, she felt a presence standing directly behind her, her body humming as it always did whenever he was in the same vicinity.

Danielle looked over Rachel’s shoulder with a wicked twinkle in her eye. “Logan, you remember Rachel.”

Rachel had met Logan a year and a half ago through their mutual friend Kate. Having just finished her report about a mother who killed her two kids and then stored their bodies in a freezer, Rachel hadn’t been in the mood to socialize. But she hadn’t wanted to disappoint Kate, so she’d gone out anyway.

Rachel had heard only good things about Logan and was eager to meet him. But after Kate had introduced them, he ignored her most of the evening, acknowledging her only to argue with her on every little comment she made. After an hour of it, she’d decided to keep her mouth shut, not wanting to ruin her friend’s night. She’d spent the rest of the evening observing the way Logan smiled at Kate . . . spoke to Kate . . . lit up for Kate.

That night, she’d realized Logan was in love with Kate.

And that he didn’t like her.

She stood and faced him, ready to try to play nice. She gestured to his hands. “Still playing with ropes I see.”

“Still pretending you’re not curious about them.” His expression didn’t change, but she heard the smirk in his voice.

“I’m not curious. I got over playing cops and robbers when I turned seven.” She tossed her long hair over her shoulder. “And by the way, I always did the tying up.”

He chuckled. “Of course you did.”

“Why would you say ‘of course’?”

He inched closer, the spicy musk of him reaching her nose. “Because you’re a control freak.”

She crossed her arms and took a step toward him, so close she had to tilt her chin up to look into his copper-colored eyes. “If the shoe fits . . .”

He tossed the rope onto the small end table beside Danielle’s chair and wrapped his hand around the top of Rachel’s arm, the heat of his fingers searing her skin. “No, there’s a difference between me and you.” He lowered his voice. “I find serenity in control while you wouldn’t know serenity if it bit you on that finely shaped ass of yours.”

He let go of her and she stumbled back into the chair. If she wasn’t mistaken, there was a compliment blended in with that insult. Reminded by his comment of how she kept her ass finely shaped, she turned from Logan and nudged Danielle on the shoulder. “I do too have a hobby. I do Pilates five days a week. So there, I do something other than work.”

Danielle rose from the chair. “It doesn’t count if you’re on your cell phone the whole time.”

“I bet I could teach you how to relax,” Logan said from behind her.

She twirled around, raising her eyebrow. “You gonna let me tie you up and gag you? Because that would definitely put a smile on my face.”

Laughing, Danielle walked away, giving her a little wave. Traitor.

He chuckled, the sound of it low and deep, which for some reason created a warm, syrupy sensation throughout her body. “Not a chance. But an hour with me, your bones would turn to liquid and you’d have the best night’s sleep of your life.”

“All from a little rope?”

“No,” he said, backing her up against the wall. He caged her in, his right hand resting above her head and the other stroking her hip. “From the heart-pumping, thigh-clenching, eye-rolling orgasms I’d give you while you were bound and gagged.”

Her breath stalled in her chest as the image he suggested flashed before her eyes, threatening to steal the tightly reined control she kept on herself. Then she remembered most men were full of shit. Plenty of others had promised to rock her world in the bedroom and not one had ever succeeded. “Pretty cocky, Soldier Boy. Too bad there’s no way you’ll ever get to deliver.”

He lowered his head, his lips hovering dangerously close to hers. “Afraid to try, Tiger?”

RELEASE TOUR ~ Another At Bat by Lyssa Layne

ANOTHER AT BAT
by Lyssa Layne

GENRE: Contemporary Romance
CONTENT WARNING: Some adult content

Pitcher Jace Richards had it all. Fame, status, money, and the perfect girl but it wasn’t enough. Unable to curb his gambling addiction, he lost everything. Now banned from the MLB, he’s struggling to get his feet back on the ground.

Laurel Darbis is the mom to ten-year-old Grey. Her son is her world and she’d do anything for him, including putting up with her cheating ex-husband, Adam. He doesn’t make things easy on her but with her friends and family by her side, she has a strong support system to help her deal with his petty drama.

Grey is about to start baseball with his friends but their coach backs out at the last minute. All of the parents are thrilled when the new coach arrives, everyone except Laurel.

Can the former bad boy tame his ways for the sake of his players? Will the protective mother let down her guard? Either way, no one will ever expect what happens when the two match up.

“Whatever, Ash. You know the chances of me dating are non-existent, especially a jerk like him.” I nod toward the field where Jace stands on the pitching mound, the kids filling in the other positions around him. We turn our attention back to the hottie in the center of the infield.

“Wow, what do you have against him?” Ashley glances at me out of the corner of her eyes. “Oh geez, Laurel, don’t tell me you’re one of the groupies that went to spring training and hooked up with him!”

I swat her leg and laugh. “No! You really think I’d keep that kind of secret from you?”

“Ow!” She rubs her leg like I really hurt her. “You’d better not. If you hooked up with him, you had better give me all the details… and I mean all.”

I turn to face her. “Is your sex life that bad that you have to live vicariously through me?”

“Hell no! I’m just saying that if you ever got in bed with a baseball god like Jace Richards then I’d want a play by play. Don’t get me wrong, Kurtis and I have a hot sex life, but his body is nothing like that.” She nods to the field again and we both subconsciously sigh at the sight in front of us.

“Duly noted, I’ll add that to our friendship pact. If I ever get laid by a baseball god, take notes and tell you.” Giggling, we pinky promise and watch the kids practice. We met in elementary school and some days, we still act like we’re still in fifth grade.

After a few minutes, Ashley asks again, “So for real, what’s your beef with Jace Richards?”

I shrug. “Everything I’ve read about him says he’s a cheater. He cheated his team, he cheated the system, he cheated on that trainer he was dating…”

“Oh, so you hate him because your ex cheated on you?”

Jace winds up again, whizzing another ball past the batter. “You know what they say, once a cheater, always a cheater.”

Ashley lifts her eyebrow. “Well, haven’t you heard, don’t always believe everything you read?”

I bite the inside of my cheek. Ashley has a point, I don’t know this guy. Maybe the tabloids lied about him, maybe there’s more to his story. I sigh, maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt. Then again, last time I gave a man the benefit of the doubt, I wound up divorced.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Another at Bat was my first introduction to the books of Ms Layne but I’ve already 1-clicked a couple to my kindle and added a few more to my wish list – I really enjoyed her story, characters an writing style!

Although I didn’t know anything about Jace Richards when I started reading, as I hadn’t read ‘The Right Pitch’, I got the idea pretty early on that he had been a real lad and had some issues to deal with – but even so, I adored him pretty much from the start.
Having messed up big time – including badly hurting someone he claimed to love – he’d been kicked out of MLB and found himself down in Florida coaching a boys team…. not where he thought life would take him it kinda sucked to be him, right?? … except his initial thoughts were knocked on their head when he met Laurel, the mum of one of his young players.

Laurel – I loved her from the get go. She was straight-talking, strong, determined, independent, feisty – and oh yeah, she was hot. She didn’t let Jace pull any crap – with her, the team or himself, she took him as he was (well ok, that wasn’t quite her attitude to begin with but Mr Richards drew her in by letting her see the real Jacen and she began to see him differently)
Our girl had a fair bit of baggage following her divorce and was still having to deal with her ex-husband – boy was he a piece of work, I really couldn’t stand Adam and wished him gone often!!

Everyone (well, almost everyone!) deserves a second chance and Jace turned out to be a really good guy – hell, he was a sweetheart (a smokin’ hot one at that!!) – who does his damnedest to straighten his life out, turn things around and get his girl.
His interactions with Grey and Sam are fabulous – you could tell it was because he genuinely liked the kids and not just because he was trying to get into HotShots pants!! 🙂

The build up of the relationship between the couple was perfect – both had issues that they had to deal with and overcome and I liked that they didn’t rush into things, they took their time and it all felt right and very natural. Lyssa, in my humble opinion, got that spot on!

Another at Bat was a fantastic read – it was sweet, funny, emotional and at times I thought my heart might stop!! Great supporting characters added to the story – the boys especially.

I give AaB 5* and have to say that it’s one of my fave reads of this year!

* Oh yeah, one thing I meant to say…… I totally agree with their thoughts on nipple rings!!!!!  😉  *

T xx
