My name is Nathan Stone, and I’m part owner of a BDSM club called The Onyx Room – and I’m not like any other man you’ve ever met.

I own the club with my two best friends, Matthew and Brandon. I’m the dungeon Master who runs The Onyx Room. Matthew and Brandon support me.

I’m also in love with my girl. Bianca and I have been together since the night she got in my car to sell me her body. She thought I’d take her for an hour to sate my carnal desire, but what she didn’t know was that I’d seen her before and purposely bought her to save her from herself.

Bianca needed more than a Dominant. She needed a Master. My name is Master Nathan Stone, and welcome to my world.

*Possible triggers, coarse language, graphic sex and adult themes.

Bianca requires aftercare as much as she needs the sting of the pain. I clean her wounds, and apply a liberal amount of Neosporin ointment and let the wounds breathe. I then cover her up with the thin blanket and sit on the bed beside her. “Slave.” Her eyes flicker open. “Here you go.” I unscrew the water bottle and hold it to her lips. She automatically reaches out so she can take the bottle, but I lightly smack her hand away. “I’ll take care of you.” Bianca smiles, then puts her lips to the bottle as I tip it so she can drink.

“Thank you, Master,” she dreamily says before placing her head on the pillow and falling into sleep.

Walking away from the bed and to the opposite side of the playroom, I take my phone out of my pocket and call Matthew.

“Hey,” he says when he answers.

“Hey, I’m supposed to do an inventory check today but Bianca is starting to fall. We’ve just had a mini scene, but she’s out of it. Can you go in and start it, and I’ll be there in a few hours. I need to make sure she’s okay.”

“She alright?”

“Not great, but I’m hoping this time I can get to her before her mind fucks her over.”

“Dude, whatever you need.”

“Thanks, can you go in and start inventory?”

“Yeah, I’m taking Ella to see Debra her OBGYN, check the baby and make sure everything’s alright, then we can head in and start on it.”

“Thanks, we’ll be there before the club opens, but I just can’t get there for a couple of hours.”

“Yeah, man, don’t worry yourself. I’ve got it covered, look after your girl.”

RELEASE TOUR ~ Beyond the Ivory Tower by Jill Blake

BEYOND THE IVORY TOWER

Book 1 of the Lazarev/Kogan Trilogy
by Jill Blake

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Mature content, 18+. Heat level: 4 (out of 5)

If there’s one thing math professor Anna Lazarev believes in, it’s the value of higher education. So when her younger sister announces she’s dropping out of college, Anna places the blame squarely on the man who inspired her sister’s rebellion.

Venture capitalist Ethan Talbot claims the US academic system is broken. His solution? Pay top students to “opt out” and pursue their entrepreneurial dreams without wasting time and money on a university degree.

In a passionate battle for the hearts and minds of a new generation, Anna will do whatever it takes to prove Ethan wrong. But when his demands take a more personal turn, will she sacrifice her principles to come out on top?

(Please note: while this is book 1 of the Lazarev/Kogan Trilogy, each book can be read as a stand-alone.
Book 2 follows Anna’s friends Becca and Leo. Book 3 tells the story of Leo’s brother Vlad and Anna’s sister Klara. Look for these books on Amazon in 2016!)

The phone rang. And rang. And rang.

Anna groaned and rolled over, fumbling for the receiver.

“’lo.”

“Anna?”

She winced and shut her eyes against the shards of sun coming through the open blinds. Her temples throbbed, and her mouth felt as parched as a dried-out river bed.

“Anna, are you there?”

“Hi, Bec,” she rasped. “Could you dial it down a bit?”

There was a beat of silence, and then Becca’s cautious voice, “Are you alone?”

She risked another glance around the room before closing her eyes again. “Yes.”

“You weren’t answering your cell,” Becca said. “The front desk put me through to your room. Are you all right?”

That was debatable. On a humiliation scale of one to ten, where would she rank getting drunk and throwing herself at a man who looked like the “after” shot in a workout ad?

At least she still had her clothes on. She popped one eye open to double-check. Yep. The dress was a little wrinkled, but definitely intact.

She wondered what Ethan was doing this morning. Probably thanking his lucky stars for his narrow escape. Vague memories of the night before made her cringe. Good thing she was heading back to L.A. today. She didn’t think she could face him in the sober light of day.

Which reminded her of what she’d nearly forgotten: there was a reason she didn’t date. As her sister would say, she sucked at it. Big-time.

“Listen, Bec, can I call you back?”

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“You sure?”

That was the trouble with best friends: they could tell when you were lying. And they weren’t shy about sticking their noses into your business.

“Fifteen minutes,” Anna promised.

~

A hot shower, two cups of coffee, and three ibuprofen later, she felt slightly more human and in control.

“You did what?” Becca shrieked, after hearing an abbreviated version of yesterday’s debacle.

“Just a little louder, Bec. I don’t think the citizens of Kansas heard you.”

“Wow. Ethan Talbot. I can’t believe I had to drag it out of you.”

Anna switched to speaker phone and lifted her suitcase atop the bed. “It’s not like I planned it,” she said, gathering discarded items of clothing and tucking them into a laundry bag. “It just happened.”

“Period cramps just happen. Weight gain just happens. Ending a three-year-old dry spell with Ethan Talbot doesn’t just happen.”

“I didn’t exactly end the dry spell.” She shoved the shoes into a different bag. “He dropped me back at the hotel and left. End of story.”

“Well, don’t keep me in suspense. When are you seeing him again?”

“I’m not.” She debated dumping the unused box of condoms. It wasn’t as if she’d need them any time soon.

Then again….She glanced at the expiration date. Two years. A lot could happen in two years.

“Why not?” Becca prodded.

“Because I’m heading home.” What the hell. She tossed the condoms in her suitcase. “Besides, we have nothing in common. And he refused to release Klara from the Fellowship.”

“Anna, sweetie, sorry for pointing out the obvious, but most people view the Talbot Fellowship as something prestigious.”

“It’s not a degree, Bec. It’s not even a certificate.”

“Maybe not, but it’ll still look good on Klara’s CV.”

Anna ducked into the bathroom for her toiletry bag.

Becca’s voice followed her. “You know Klara will do what she wants, regardless of what you say. Which means you’ve got two choices: prolong the battle and risk alienating her completely, or accept what she’s doing and move on.”

Anna returned to the bedroom. “What’s option C?”

“It wouldn’t kill you to be a little more flexible. Klara’s the only family you have. Shame to lose her over something that’s going to be over in two years.”

Anna sighed. “Bec, the problem is, we’re not just talking two years. We’re talking her entire future.”

“Does the word hyperbole mean anything to you?”

Anna ignored her attempt at humor. “If Klara doesn’t finish her education, she’ll end up regretting it. Maybe not now, but someday.” She glanced around to see if there was anything left to pack.

“She can always go back to school,” Becca said. “There are plenty of returning students of all ages.”

“I guess.”

“And look on the bright side. Now that Klara’s moved out, you have the whole place to yourself. You can finally have a social life.”

“Is that supposed to cheer me up?” Anna said, zipping the suitcase.

“It’s all in the attitude. Now tell me more about Ethan Talbot.”

“Nothing more to tell.”

“Come on, you have to do better than that.”

“Seriously, Bec. I’m lucky if the guy doesn’t turn around and walk the other way the moment he sees me.”

“I’m sure you’re exaggerating.”

“I’m not.”

“Okay, so what did you do?”

“I threw myself at him.”

“You what?”

Anna winced and lowered the cell phone volume. “I may have had a little too much to drink.” She waited for Becca’s laughter to taper off. “It’s not that funny.”

“Sorry. I’m just trying to picture it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you drunk.”

“Yeah, well don’t hold your breath.” Anna lifted the suitcase off the bed. “I have to go check out.”

“Wait—that’s it?”

Anna sighed. “It’s a long drive, Bec. I’ll talk to you when I get home.”

Two hours later, her phone buzzed. She ignored it. Another hour passed before she pulled into a rest stop to use the facilities and check messages.

She read Ethan’s text while standing in line for coffee.

How are you feeling?

Oh, boy. Mortified would just about cover it. Hung over would work too. And determined to put the entire unfortunate interlude with Ethan behind her.

“Next.”

She dropped the phone back in her bag and stepped up to the counter.

Two and a half hours later, as she unlocked the front door of her Santa Monica apartment, another text came through:

You OK?

Clearly, the man wasn’t going to let it go until she responded.

She dumped her belongings in the living room and typed:

All good. Back in LA.

His response was immediate:

Didn’t get chance to say goodbye.

She sank down on the couch.

Sorry, she wrote. Goodbye.

And that should have been the end of it. Except for some reason, Ethan seemed determined to go off script.

When are you back in SF?

Was he asking because he wanted to see her again, or because he wanted advance notice so he could avoid running into her? She wouldn’t blame him if it was the latter. She’d never made such a fool of herself before. The only thing that would have been worse was if he’d taken her up on her offer, and then she’d vomited all over him. Or passed out in the middle of things. Or woken up naked and alone and not remembering a damn thing about how she got that way.

Considering all the worst case scenarios that hadn’t happened, she supposed she should be grateful. But that didn’t mean she wanted to see Ethan again. Ignoring the little voice in her head that said liar, liar, she texted back:

Busy with work. Have to stay in LA.

Then she shut off her phone and headed for the bedroom. She squelched any residual guilt by reminding herself that they had nothing in common. If he tried texting or calling her again, she’d simply ignore him. The same way he’d ignored her emails and phone calls when she’d first attempted to contact him.

Of course he hadn’t known her then. He probably got a ton of spam and solicitations, and her messages might have gotten lost in the shuffle—assuming they ever reached him at all. Now that they’d met, the dynamics had changed.

But that was beside the point. She didn’t belong in his world, and he had no place in hers. Best to cut her losses before anyone got hurt. And by anyone, she meant herself. Because she really couldn’t imagine a man like Ethan Talbot getting too hung up on a woman whose IQ far exceeded her bra size.

She toed off her sensible flats, stripped off her clothes, and climbed into the shower. Time to get back to real life.

Excerpt

There was shouting in Thai, and Lily had to get physical with one of the girls in order to get her to leave, but eventually all three hookers were in the hall. Lily slammed the door shut and went back into the bathroom. Kingsley was sitting upright in the shower, still rubbing his hands all over his face and head.

“Is it cold in here?” he asked. She grabbed his arm and hauled him to his feet.

“Yes, it’s cold in here because you’re in the water,” she explained, careful as she helped him get out of the tub.

“Right, right, that makes sense,” he agreed. He leaned on her and she staggered under his weight. They tumbled out of the room and fell onto his king sized bed.

“C’mon, up up up,” she urged, sitting upright. He rolled onto his back, instead.

Lily got down on the floor, working to pull off his shoes. It wasn’t easy, he kept moving his legs and kicking his feet. His wet laces also put up a fight, but she eventually won the battle and threw his shoes across the room.

“Oi, thanks love, I hate those shoes!” he called to her as he struggled to sit upright.

“Well, then why did you -,”

For being stoned out of his mind, Kingsley was surprisingly quick, and he grabbed her by the back of her neck and yanked her forward. Lily was underneath him before she even knew what was happening, and then before she could react to what he’d just done, he was kissing her. Kingsley had kissed her once before, but it had been a goodbye kiss. No tongue, more of a show than anything else.

There was nothing funny about the way he was kissing her now. It was like he was ravenous, and she was a full buffet. She squealed and tried to push him off, but he didn’t even notice. His hands wandered down her body, squeezing her breasts while his tongue explored her mouth.

This may have been a bad idea. Maybe I should’ve gone back to Ohio.

Lily smacked him in the side of the head, and when he pulled away to question her, she whacked him in the throat. Not hard enough to do any real damage, but hard enough to make him choke and gag.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing!?” he demanded, his voice hoarse.

“I have the same question!” she yelled back, pushing at his chest, trying to get him off of her.

“What kind of whore are you!?”

“I’m not a whore!”

He paused. His hand was on his throat, massaging where she’d hit him, and he looked down at her. His pupils were huge, and he seemed to have trouble focusing on one point. But then his eyes found hers and he stopped. Just stared down at her.

“Lily,” he said her name in a soft voice. The hand he had against his throat fell away, lightly touching the side of her face.

“Yeah, it’s me,” she said back, keeping her own voice low.

“I’m very glad you’re here,” he started, “though I wish I’d known you were coming. I hate for you to see me like this.”

“Me, too. I tried to call.”

“I’m sure you did. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m terribly sorry, but I think I’m going to pass out.”

And he did just that, collapsing on top of her. She gasped underneath his weight, and it took her a couple moments to wriggle free of him.

“Great, just great,” she grumbled, looking over at him as he snored away.

What was she supposed to do with a stoned mercenary!?

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since …, forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Excerpt

“What you need to do is hear me out.” Steel edged her voice now, and maybe a bit of desperation.
It was the former, not the latter, that made him take a real look at her.
Her eyes caught him first. Deep emerald green. Shocking, actually, set in a delicate Asian face framed by a cascade of hair so black the lighting caught blue highlights. Her features were naturally beautiful, accented with a minimal amount of makeup. Very different from the majority of the people in attendance, regardless of gender.
Color leached from her face as she must have realized she had his full attention. But she didn’t back away or break eye contact. Good for her. Lesser men had balked when Gabe had stared them down.
“My little sister is missing.” The edge was gone from her words but the desperation was still there.
Anger washed away. Damn. “I’m sorry, miss. But the police are the people to contact.”
Political targets, reporters and prisoners of war were the kidnap victims private military might be contracted to locate and retrieve. The kind of people held for ransom in places so far off the radar, even sunlight might not find them. And those weren’t his team’s specialty.
The woman in front of him was a normal civilian. Willowy, slender. The thought of a little sister conjured up images of some tiny waiflike kid. He and his partners were heavy hitters, not the kind of people you sent in to do anything but cause strategic destruction. They went into hot spots overseas and did the things politicians didn’t admit to knowing about at these glitzy events, things a US uniform wouldn’t be doing. Delicate, gentle—the sort of handling a traumatized girl retrieved from a kidnapping situation would need—was not their forte.
The older sister shook her head. “I’ve spoken to the police and the US Embassy. No one will do anything, not yet. And by the time they believe something’s actually wrong, I might never find her.”
Missing persons cases were tough. She was right about the time crunch. There was only a short window before the abducted was more than likely dead. Considering what could have already happened, death might not be the worst thing either.
Definitely not going to add to what this woman was already imagining. Hopefully she didn’t know what could happen.
“You’d do better hiring a private investigator.” He drew his eyebrows together, tried not to let the urge to squirm under her very direct stare show. Damn. Give him vapid groupies and a clueless entourage and he had no problem staring them down. This woman, it was like she could see straight through him and know how much he didn’t want to cause a scene at this very moment. There was nothing good he could do for her.

BLOG TOUR ~ Entwined by Harper Miller

Title: Entwined
Author : Harper Miller

Genre: Erotica and Interracial/Multicultural Romance

After twenty years of devotion to Uncle Sam, I called it quits. I was wired and looking to get into some trouble. Trouble found me all right, in the form of a hot-bodied fox.

Little did I know how much she’d rock my world.

The names are all fake, details have been fudged, but you’ll get the gist of what went down.

You’re getting one hell of a tale. This is my story.

*Disclaimer* This is a novelette. Not a short story, novella, or novel. This story features an F/F/M ménage à trois scenario. If ménage stories are not your cup of tea and you are easily offended by threesomes and lesbian sex, you should bypass this story. Content is intended for a mature audience, 18+.

Entwined is the third installment in The Kinky Connect Chronicles. The Kinky Connect Chronicles are short erotic stories/novelettes all wrapped up in neat little bows. These stories are standalones. No cliffhangers in the lot!

Her screen name reminded me of that Beastie Boys tune “She’s Crafty.” I liked her direct approach. Cosplay? That was unusual, but hey, I had attended Comic-Con International back in 2013 after my trip to Hawaii—right before I left for Germany—and boy, was it an experience. Tons of hot women in spandex, body paint, and barely-there costumes; Comic-book characters and superheroes are a lot sexier than you’d think.

Since she said she was looking for the boy-next-door type, I’m guessing she meant clean-cut. If so, I was right up her alley. My years in the military led me down a narrow and regimented path. I didn’t drink, much; I certainly didn’t do drugs. I guess compared to her, I might’ve looked boring. Aside from two tattoos—a tiger that took up most of my right shoulder and upper arm, and the Hawaiian word Kākou on my left bicep that I got about a year after I joined the military—there wasn’t anything edgy about me. But I wouldn’t know if I was her type until I took the first step and messaged her.

I’ll admit I hesitated. We seemed like opposites. Based on looks alone, we were so different. Her, a black woman with an unorthodox style, and me a Polynesian-and-white guy with an athletic build. I certainly wasn’t as fashion-forward and daring with my attire as she seemed to be. All I needed was a cool opening line to get her attention. Show her that the clean-cut “unassuming” boy next door can lay pipe just the way she liked it if given a chance.

I knew what I was bringing to the table. She’d never forget me.

I clicked on the box next to her username and composed my message before hitting send. Nothing heavy, just an icebreaker—an icebreaker that was certain to make an impression.

Sgt4U: Knock knock.

About a two minutes passed before she replied.

CraftyBabexXx: Hmm, I’ll play along. Who’s there?
Sgt4U: Orange.
CraftyBabexXx: Orange who?
Sgt4U: Orange you glad someone had the balls to be original on this thing?

There was a long pause. My lame joke was funny in my head. Maybe it didn’t translate well in a text format. Hey, I should have at least gotten points for being unique.

Cold.
All I can feel is a deep chill blanketing my body. My eyes open to complete darkness as a
voice calls to me. Its muffled tones send shivers down my spine with every garbled word. A sense of familiarity floats around me as its words become clearer.
“Run, Dani,” it pleas from beyond the black veil shrouding the room. “Escape while you can,” it continues. Panic courses
through my veins. Where in the hell am I? Why can’t I see anything? The pleas go unanswered as my voice fails to render sound.

“Help!” I scream internally, “Please, fucking help me!”

The voice’s call fades with each word. “You need to get the hell out of here, Dani. You need to move. Find a wall and escape,” I coach to myself. A cold chill of air sweeps into the darkness encompassing me as I try to feel the place around me. My fingers plunge into a dense, sticky liquid as I crawl forward causing my body to slide with each movement. A hard surface is finally inching its way under my fingers.

Crawling upwards, I splay my hands against the cool wall. “You’re on your feet, Dani. The hardest part is over now. Time to
find a door or a light switch, something to get us out of here,” my internal coach continues.

Keeping close to the wall, I finally find a switch. Flicking it upwards, the light shines brilliantly. As my eyes adjust to the light, my hands come into my vision. A scream barrels out of my throat when I see the sticky, red blood covering my hands and clothes. My heart races as I frantically wipe the blood away. Blood begins to pool at my feet, inching toward me. Rushing
away from the blood, I fall backward into a solid, but warm obstacle. Before I can turn around, hands grasp my arms as a person’s hot breath trails down my neck.

“Hello, Dani,” a different voice whispers in my ear. “Welcome to Hell. You’re mine now,” the voice crackles as my body is
pulled into black oblivion.

At twenty-three, I’m left with a decision. The outcome could be life or death.

Trent hit me once, and I cried. Then he hit me again. And again. After a while, I got used to it, as I slept on the floor beside his bed, night after night.

Everyone told me to leave him, but I can’t. He won’t let me.

The moment I wanted to give up on myself and any form of hope, Kemper—a tall, sexy Marine just home from Afghanistan walked into my bar. With one look in his eyes, I saw pain that mirrored my own.

At first, I thought maybe he would be my prince charming, riding in to save me, but all it took was one tragedy for me to remember…fairy tales don’t exist in real life.

*The content in this book discusses domestic violence and is suitable for readers over 18*

Excerpt

“That’s twice in one day I’ve had to save you,” Kemper says, his soft voice soothing my nerves as he presses a cool compress against my forehead. His other hand is cupped around my cheek. No one has ever cared enough to save me. Kemper’s face is inches from mine and I can smell the cool mint on his breath from the gum he’s been chewing.

“I guess so,” I mutter, falling a little deeper into his gaze.

His thumb runs down the length of my nose, and while most of me is feeling pain, that sensation still drives quivers through my body. “Does that hurt?” he asks.

I shake my head, “Not too much,” I say, noticing a slight ache in my neck.

His thumb moves over to my right cheekbone and he presses gently. “How about that?” All I feel is the warmth from his skin. I shake my head again. He does the same for my left cheekbone. This time I wince. It hurts. I clench my eyes and I hear him yell to someone to grab ice. “Is this the first time he’s hit you?” Kemper’s brows are bowed toward his nose while his thumb continues to trace small circles around my cheek. I’d rather lean into his hand than respond.

In truth, I just don’t want to answer him, but he’s still staring at me, waiting for a response. I look down, away from his gaze. The ache in my chest, mixed with feeling like a weak woman, makes me want to cry, but I won’t cry in front of all these people. His finger curls under my chin and he tilts my face back up to look at him. His eyes are kind and caring, yet pained at the same time. The light is hitting them at the perfect angle, giving them the slightest shimmer in the center of each pupil. Then there are his lips—I can’t stop looking at those either. They’re full and capable. They look like they have the ability to kiss in a way I’ve definitely never been kissed. I want to touch his lips, but I belong to Trent—the asshole that just hit me.

“You sent her home with him, right?” My eyes dropped to my shoes and he growled. “Tell me you didn’t, Ashton. Tell me you didn’t take the girl in lieu of payment.” I lifted my chin and he got his answer. “Jesus, fuck.”

“I made him a deal,” I said. “I get Elena for three months, and he pays back half of what he owes.”

“Half? Are you crazy? Does she have a golden pussy or something? She must have. There must be a good reason for this . . . insanity.”

By this point my dad had rounded the table, grabbing handfuls of my shirt, pulling me flush against him, his face was millimeters from mine as he shouted his displeasure. My fists clenched at my sides. At six-one I was a big bastard but Dad was bigger. He could take me without breaking sweat. Even so, my voice was tight when I looked him straight in the eye and replied, “He abuses her, Dad,” the volume dropping slightly when I continued, “I don’t know to what extent but she won’t even look me in the fucking eyes when I talk to her. Can’t make a decision on her own. Swear to Christ, she jumped six fuckin’ feet in the air when I touched her hand. I have no intention of fucking her, but I couldn’t let her leave with him. If I shot him down and let Brock rough him up a little, imagine what that would have meant for her. You know.”

Understanding washed through his features and he lowered me to the ground, releasing my shirt from his grip, smoothing out the crumpled material. “She’s staying with you?”

“Yes.” I made the split-second decision to share my plan with him. “I’ve only got three months to repair what he broke. It’ll be tough but I’ll be damned if I don’t give it a try.

A one night stand can’t possibly mean forever…|
Detective Jared Manning met his match at a bar. After a night of passion, she sneaks out of his bed without so much as a note. Problem is, now he can’t find her.
Kindergarten teacher, Melody Nash doesn’t do one night stands. Embarrassment gets the best of her and she lies about her name.
When they collide at her school, Mel resists his pull. She won’t risk her heart on the obvious playboy, even though she can’t stop thinking about the night in his arms.
Stress engulfs Jared’s personal and professional lives. His brother is at the center of the joint case he and his partner are working in cooperation with FBI.
He puts his job on the line when he fails to share his blood relation. Complications he doesn’t need, considering the FBI agent on the case is convinced his brother killed her fiancé.
Balance is the name of the game. Can Jared save his brother and convince Mel they’re meant to be together?

Excerpt:

Jared cleared his throat. “Can I sit next to you?”

Her head whipped back around. “Why?”

He rocked back on the heels of his shitkickers.

Why?

Charm. Focus on being charming.

“I like to keep the company of a beautiful woman.” Jared smiled.

She frowned.

He stared. He couldn’t help it.

She frowned at a compliment?

Jared quirked an eyebrow and slid onto the chair next to hers, because she was never going to invite him to sit. And that made him want to join her even more. Intrigued the hell out of him. “What’s your name?”

Cocking her head to one side, she studied him. “Uh…Ren.”

“Wren like the bird? Cool name.”

“No.” Her cheeks reddened again and she looked away. “Umm…it’s…short for Renee.”

He watched her fidget before she’d meet his gaze again. His stomach churned at the thought of her being uneasy with him. He forced words out. “Can I call you Renee?”

Those eyes met his and he swallowed hard. Crystal blue, like a morning summer sky. Jared had never seen anything so beautiful in his life.

“O-o-o-kay. I mean, sure.” More shifting, so he reached for her hand.

Touching her resulted in a zing of energy shooting up his arm. Their eyes locked. Her lips parted and his mouth went dry.

He wanted to kiss her.

No. Jared needed to kiss her.

Before he could even lean in, Renee gasped and moved away.

“Which one of them put you up to this?” she demanded. The suspicion in her voice made him rear back.

He blinked.

Wanting to kiss a woman two seconds after meeting her was fast…even for him.

Get it together, seriously.

“Excuse me?” His voice cracked.

She looked away. “Never mind.”

Jared studied her. She was nervous. No…uncomfortable. Why? “Renee.”

When she met his eyes, his heart skipped.

“I want to have a nice evening. A drink. A dance. With you.”

She cleared her throat and Jared wanted to kiss it.

“With. Me.” It wasn’t a question.

He nodded. “With you. Is that a problem?”

Renee’s pale blue gaze raked his face. “No. I guess not. My friends are always telling me I need to loosen up.”

“Are they now?” He flashed his best charming grin. “Just so happens I’m pretty good at helping that along.”
