When Ronan Sharpe unexpectedly left Colorado for parts unknown, he took a piece of Keely Carmichael’s heart with him.

After leaving his hellish roots behind him, Ronan found contentment when he started over. Thoughts of the past had been pushed down for so long; he hardly thought about it at all.

He intended to keep it that way.

When unexpected circumstances force Ronan to return to Colorado, the Keely he finds is no longer the adolescent girl he remembered. Torn between desire and fear, Ronan struggles with his feelings for Keely and his need to escape the town that scarred him so deeply years ago.

Letting go is all Ronan’s ever known. Will he realize a life with Keely is something he should hold onto at any cost?

PROLOGUE

There were nasty looking bruises on his cheek and jaw, his lip was swollen and his knuckles were scraped and bloody. The instant I got a good look at his face I knew something was horribly wrong. It only went downhill from there.

My attempts to contain my panic weren’t working. Choking back a sob I blubbered, “Why do you have to go?”

The anger was all but pouring off of him. Not toward me—he’d never once been angry with me. I knew anger though, and it was more than obvious he was furious about something. A permanent grimace seemed to have set up camp on his face. For him, it was highly unusual. Even in the toughest of times, he kept his cool.

Suddenly, he wasn’t calm at all. He was angrier than I’d ever seen him. It was obvious he’d been in a fight, but it didn’t change his status as the most attractive guy alive, in my opinion.

I saw his jaw clenching and unclenching which I figured meant he was trying to control himself.

“Because this piece of shit town is like a fucking cancer,” he spat. “I’m so done with the crazy assholes around here. People like us aren’t normal—we’re the freaks for trying to be good people.”

I didn’t know how to argue with his words. He wasn’t wrong—there was a lot wrong with many of the people in our town. Most of the crazy people were either my family members or his. I knew it and so did he. There wasn’t a response to erase the reality of the kind of people we dealt with.

“Are you going alone?”

His hands clenched into fists at his sides as he nodded stiffly. “Yes.”

“Even though you live with—”

His hand shot up into a stop gesture to keep me from finishing the sentence.

“Don’t say her fucking name. If I never hear it again, it’ll be too soon. I don’t live with that crazy bitch anymore.”

I couldn’t stand her so it wasn’t like I was going to push. She was an evil troll. If he had to go, I was glad he wasn’t taking her with him. It would’ve made me ill. She pretended to be sweetness and light when he was around but it was nothing but a charade. She was terrible. I was glad he wasn’t taking her, but the fact he wouldn’t say her name told me his leaving was somehow her responsibility. I hated her more than ever.

“Where will you go?”

He gestured back over his shoulder toward the street with his thumb.

“Wherever my car takes me once I pull out,” he said.

I couldn’t imagine life without him, nor did I want to. Not only had he been my crush for as long as I could remember, he was the only person who ever really listened to me.

“Will you ever visit?” I asked hopefully.

He was shaking his head in the negative before I’d even fully finished asking the question. I knew he wouldn’t. The bone-deep hatred he had for everything about where we lived was stamped all over his face. I wanted so badly to know what, exactly, had sent him over the edge, but when I asked, he’d refused to tell me.

It sucked being fourteen because he treated me like a kid. My age said I was a child, but I was so different than any of my peers it wasn’t even funny. Because of this, they teased me often, referring to me as Granny Carmichael. I hated it. It wasn’t as though I’d had a choice. My childhood was over the moment my mother got sick.

His expression softened when he looked me over. “You need to get back inside before you get pneumonia.”

The frigid Colorado air wasn’t even making an impression on me until he pointed it out. I realized my tears were leaving cold trails on my face, but I couldn’t walk away. All I cared about was how much I didn’t want him to leave.

“I don’t care about the cold or getting pneumonia. I don’t want you to go!” I cried anxiously.

He hugged me then, his strong arms wrapping around me to give comfort. I hadn’t hugged him since I’d been much younger—probably five or six. Those hugs had mostly involved me wrapping myself around one of his legs. This was different. I wrapped my arms tight around him and cried against his chest, holding on for as long as he allowed me to.

“I’m sorry,” he said as he ended the embrace and stepped back. “I have to leave.”

Knowing my denial and resistance weren’t going to make any difference, I swiped at my tears as I nodded.

“I’ll miss you,” I said on a choked sob. “Take care of yourself.”

“I’ll miss you too,” he replied softly. “You’re one of the few good people here.”

My heart galloped in my chest. I loved him for saying what he did—but hated that it came at such a horrible price. Losing him was unbearable.

He turned as if to leave, then stopped. Spinning back my way, he stared at me intently for a few moments before he spoke again.

“You’re so much better than any of these people. Don’t ever let them change who you are. The world needs a lot more you and a lot less them. No matter what anyone tells you—you’re perfect. Got it?”

I nodded as I wiped at the tears running unchecked down my face.

He hugged me again, very briefly. My heart skipped a few beats when he dropped a kiss on top of my head.

“Don’t ever forget your worth—not even for a minute,” he murmured.

When he let go, he said nothing else. He just turned and walked to his car. As he went, the chill in the air suddenly took hold of me. Hugging my arms around myself, I watched as he got into the car, turned it on and then pulled out of my driveway. He looked at me one last time before putting his hand up in a goodbye gesture. I did the same. A few seconds passed before he put the car in drive then sped off into the night.

I stayed outside for two or three minutes, hoping against hope he would change his mind and come back.

He didn’t.

Hours later when I got into bed, I prayed fate would bring him back one day. I said the same prayer most nights for a long, long time. Eventually I had no choice but to accept reality.

Hell would freeze over before he returned.

I saw his arm raised from the corner of my eye. I leaned forward to get out of the way of his flailing hand. I glanced back at him.

“Sorry,” he mumbled. I was rendered mute.

First thing I saw was his shirt riding up over his hips, revealing his perfectly toned skin. I leaned forward and craned my neck down, trying to catch a glimpse of his abs, when a low rumble emitted from his mouth, making me whip fully around. My face lit up on fire.

“You like what you see, Sunshine?” His voice took me off guard. The low rumble sounded like he had just woken up from a night of heavy sleeping. It was sexy and daring and dark.

“Not really,” I said, trying to mask my instant attraction to him. His eyes captured me when I looked up at him. They were deep gray, almost like a storm cloud rolling with the wind. His light brownish-blond hair complimented his tanned skin, making his appearance even more appealing.

At the tip of his hoodie, black lines curved along his collar bone, hinting at a larger tattoo somewhere beneath his shirt. I tried to focus elsewhere, but this guy was fucking perfection. His thick bottom lip, his nose that was a little crooked at the bridge. He had a fucking dimple!

“Luke,” he said. He smirked, showing off his dimple as if daring me to lick it. Strangely enough, he had on khaki pants, tailored so well they looked professional. The khaki and hoodie combo was bizarre, and the difference in top and bottom was not lost on me.

“Excuse me?” I asked back, remembering that he spoke, the fog dissipating, replaced with confusion.

“My name is Luke.” His voice was light, not condescending or rude like I would’ve thought it to be. I frowned, glared, and then turned around in my seat without uttering a single word. He was being nice?

What Others Are Saying About Taylor Lavati

“One for readers at the older end of the ‘young adult’ spectrum, The Thousand Year Curse is clearly the work of a gifted young writer. The plot and the basic premise have already been spelled out by other reviewers but what struck me most about the book was the deft and surprisingly mature touch of the author.” Jay G

“I fell in love with Taylor’s writing when I read the first book in her Curse Books. When I opened this book I wasn’t positive what would be waiting on the other side for me, but I was certain it would be a reading adventure. Taylor didn’t disappoint.” Bestselling author Jesse Kimmel-Freeman

“And what if it hadn’t been me on the other side of that door. What if it had been the Russians?”

Tasia let him pull her along, but she was getting angrier by the second. She didn’t like to be told where she could and could not go.

“It was not them.”

“But it could’ve been. It was reckless and dangerous and the reason you’re in this mess in the first place.”

She dug in her heels, and yanked her arm free. He rotated to face her.

“No…I am in this mess in the first place because my father wanted to force me to marry someone I have never even met.”

The guilty look that entered his eyes wasn’t just something Tasia imagined. Did he know something about her father’s plans for her? Was he planning to take her back just in time to walk down the aisle? Well, she wasn’t going back to Estonia to marry some prince she’d never even met. Not now, not ever. At least not until she got the opportunity to choose her own future.

“Look, I’m not being paid to worry about your petty concerns. I’m supposed to protect you from the men who are trying to kidnap you. That’s why if you pull anything like that again, I’ll tie you to the bed and never let you go.”

Damn! That was an image that would stick! His hand on her upper arm as he wrapped it around her again sent a chill chasing along her spine. Why did his provocative words sound like something she wanted to try? Shouldn’t it make her want to run faster and harder in the other direction? What was wrong with her?

Marissa didn’t follow me. It was most likely she had pieced together our story after Blake’s song. How could she not? It was as if he had weaved our entire relationship into his lyrics. I could feel his sixteen-year-old self singing every line to my sixteen-year-old self. Although, I was pretty certain the sixteen-year-old Blake I’d known then had no clue how to play the guitar.

After washing the tearstains from my face, I brushed my teeth. It was still early, but I couldn’t face going back out there, so I changed into my shorts and tank top and climbed into bed. Sleep would be impossible, but at least here, I was safe.

Most people felt lonely in solitude, but I welcomed the silence. I embraced it even. Something about the quiet, the knowledge no one else was around, comforted me. I knew it made me different. I didn’t need a shrink to tell me that, but it didn’t change the fact that I found sanctuary in being alone.

I lay there not really allowing myself to think. Thinking was dangerous; it led to remembering, and my memories were stained with pain and hurt and the kinds of things that made most people’s nightmares look like a walk in the park. Instead, I tracked the uneven cabin ceiling. My eyes followed the planes of the wood from one end to the other and back again until they grew heavy.

A knock on the door startled me sending my already restless heart into overdrive and I rubbed at my eyes.

“Hello?” I called out hoping to hear Marissa’s voice, but I knew it wasn’t her. She wouldn’t have knocked; she would have barged right in and demanded answers.

“Penny, it’s me.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, but my mind betrayed me as an image of Blake’s face filled my head.

Another knock.

“Penny.”

Forcing myself to sit up, I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. He wasn’t going away. Blake—our connection—was something I was going to have to deal with sooner or later, and from Blake’s admissions over the last few days, it seemed that he was making the decision for me.

My legs were like lead as I walked to the door. It swung open and Blake stood there looking at me with such reverence in his eyes I almost crumpled. Maybe I did crumple because, before my head had time to process what was happening, I was in Blake’s arms, and he was holding on to me like he needed me to breathe.

“I’ve missed you so much. I’ve tried to stay away, to give you space, but I can’t. I can’t spend another day feeling like you might slip through my fingers again.”

One of Blake’s hands buried itself in my hair and cradled my head holding me to him. My face pressed up against the collar of his hoodie, and I breathed him in. He smelled familiar, like damp grass and fresh air, of a time when things were less complicated, and my heart ached for us. At that moment, we weren’t two strangers reunited by chance; we were sixteen-year-old Blake and Penny.

And we needed each other to survive.

They say a human being needs few things to exist.

A purpose,

Hope for the future,

But most of all…

Love.

Juliette Portland had all of those things. Her purpose was simple: Seduce. Deceive. Kill. Avenge. Once Dornan Ross and his sons were dead, her future was supposed to be clear. Her life was finally going to begin. And love… Against all the odds, she had the love of a boy she never thought she’d see again.

Everything should have gone according to plan. Everything should have been easy once Dornan was dead and buried.

Of course, life has a way of fucking with even the most meticulous of plans, and calling in owed debts can have the most severe consequences. Thanks to Juliette’s diabolical retribution, the Il Sangue Cartel has lost it’s Kingpin, but not for long. There’s always someone in the wings, ready to step onstage and seize power. The Gypsy Brothers Motorcycle Club might be reeling from the deaths of their President and his six patch-wearing sons, but they’ve come back swinging.

Two deadly enemies, hundreds of bloodthirsty members, both sides eager to punish those that would try to topple them.

Two survivors, a man and a woman, forced to flee in the night.

For Juliette, vengeance is a hollow victory.

It never, ever ends.

The flames of incomplete vengeance are licking at her heels, and it’s only a matter of time before the Il Sangue cartel and the Gypsy Brothers catch her in their grip and crush her.

Unless she crushes them first.

EXCERPT TWO

I don’t even stop to see what kind of furniture the room consists of. I throw Juliette on the floor and pounce on her like I’m a lion and she’s my catch.

My dick’s inside her within three seconds of the door closing, even though its dark in here, the only light from a couple of candles throwing off weak light. It could be the middle of the day and I wouldn’t have a clue, because all I can see is Juliette Portland underneath me, her legs spread and her pussy full of me. I put my hands around her neck. I want to squeeze. I want to choke her so fucking badly. Goddamn it! I stop grinding my cock into her. I just stop.

“I don’t want to hurt you,” I whisper in the dark. “Julz, the things I used to do in this place—I used to hurt people and get off on it. I don’t want to hurt you, baby.”

She reaches up and grabs hold of my face; I can just make out her eyes, her pupils almost swallowing any trace of green.

“Jase,” she breathes, “What if I want you to hurt me?”

EXCERPT THREE

“When you blank out. When you go away. You’re with him, aren’t you?”

I take a step back. I feel like I’ve been punched. I don’t respond. I don’t even say, who do you mean, because we both know who we’re talking about here.

“Hey,” Jase snaps. “I want you to answer me.”

I can’t breathe. It’s like Dornan’s in the room. I feel his warm breath on my neck, the way he always tasted the same in my mouth. Like salt and cigarettes.

“Answer me,” Jase growls.

I break. “What?” I hiss. “What do you want from me? Do you want me to lie? I was supposed to kill him, and that was meant to be the end of it.”

Jase looks like he’s about to hit another wall. Or me.

“He’s dead,” he spits, “He’s dead, but you’re the one who’s gone. I need you to come back. I need you to come back to me.”

“I don’t know how!” I yell.

“You’re not trying!” he explodes. “You just sit here, in your dark little universe, thinking about him! Did you think about him while I was fucking you last night? Huh?”

EXCERPT FOUR

They say the apple never falls far from the tree, and I’d say this apple never fucking fell, period. I’m the shiny apple that might’ve looked the best on the surface—different to the rest of them, full of promise that there was another way—but they broke me. They made me worse than any of them could ever be.

I hurt people. I hurt women.

I killed people.

And that’s not even the worst of it.

The first man I ever killed was John Portland, and I cried as I pulled the trigger. Yeah, I was a stupid kid and he begged me to do it, and yeah, it was a mercy killing, but it doesn’t matter. Point is, his life was the first one I took—I killed Juliette’s father, for Christ’s sake—and after I ended his life with a single bullet, delivered in the dark in a dirty basement, I didn’t stop.

I couldn’t stop.

The last person I killed was Donny, my last surviving brother, and that was eight months ago. I ripped his fucking eyeball out before I butchered him, and the one single thing that stopped me from dismembering him was knowing that Juliette was watching me. Her screams broke through my haze of red, as I took Donny’s own knife and sunk it into his flesh, again and again, so deep it hit bone more than once. I severed the tendons that made his arms work, so he was putty underneath me. I straddled my own brother and thrust upon him the vengeful punishment that they all deserved. For Julz. For my mother. For everything.

I killed him, and I haven’t killed since.

I’m hungry. My palms are itching. It’s torture.

I don’t know how long I’m going to last before I have to draw blood again.

Homespun Release Day Banner

Homespun cover 4

Dr. Mackenzie Daniels was a loner. He had the divorce, a far-away family, and well-known cranky persona to prove it. And if he had his way, he would continue on his loner way, in spite of the attempts of the townspeople to infiltrate his life with their irritating, so-called charming ways. That was…until he met the beautiful Nurse Millicent Robbins.

Millie Robbins had done the love and marriage thing, and all she could say was that she got a beautiful daughter out of the entire debacle. Love was not in her long-term plans when she graduated from nursing school, thank you very much….until she found herself falling head over heels for the grouchiest but most gorgeous doctor she’d ever met.

Can Mack and Millie find their way to love in spite of their histories? Can happiness actually exist for two star-crossed lovers?

Join the entire town of Paradise for a Christmas celebration of lasting love!

excerpt

“Fine. What about a favor, huh? Friends do favors for each other all the time, don’t they?” Mack volleyed smoothly, studying her. “How about you do me this favor, Millicent? You won’t deny me that, will you? Especially since you’re the one that got me into this predicament.”

“No, I suppose not. I’d be happy to spend the holidays with you and your family.”

“Same here,” he admitted softly. “Now, how do you feel about you and Paisley helping me decorate my place tomorrow? It’s Saturday. We both have the day off unless one of my patients decides to go into labor, and since nobody is that close to delivery yet, I think we’re pretty clear there. My family expects to fly into Paradise and find my home a completely undecorated mess. I’d love to knock my sister down a peg or two and surprise her with a perfectly designed Winter Wonderland. Really, this is the least you could do,” he grumbled when Millie didn’t make a peep. “Let me remind you once more that this shit is all your fault.”

“Such a sweet talker.” Millie sighed dramatically and batted her eyelashes demurely. “You sure know how to charm a girl.”

“My ex-wife used to say the same thing,” he reminisced.

You were married? For real? To a woman?” Millie gaped in stunned disbelief, unable to imagine this male as a part of a couple. Sure, she’d had her fantasies about her sexy boss. Of course she had! He was hot. Lean and muscular in all the right places. And she’d bet her right pinky toe that he was hung like a horse. But that’s where the fantasy ended. Because in addition to all she fantasized about, Mackenzie Daniels was also surly, stubborn and an all-around Gloomy Gus on most all the days that ended in Y.

“For your sake, lady, I’m going to choose not to be offended here,” Mack returned mockingly as he fought a grin. “You don’t need to look quite so astonished; I’m not exactly an ogre, Mills.”

Staring up at him, Millie took stock of the Doc’s high, chiseled cheekbones, his dimpled chin, his square jaw and his perfectly sculpted, extremely kissable lips and she had to agree. “No, definitely not an ogre,” she whispered, as her tongue darted out to lick her suddenly dry lips. “What I meant to say is that I just never imagined anyone that valued his solitude and privacy as much as you do married to anyone.”

“I do enjoy my solitude and privacy, but I’m also a guy, Millie. I do like to fuck.”

Millie nearly choked on her tongue. “Women, right?”

“Yes, women! Did you assume I was asexual? Or did you think I was gay? Do I strike you as a latent homosexual, Millie?” he asked as his steady gaze connected with her nervous one.

“N-no, but if you did swing that way, you should know that Paradise has this lovely florist that’s been looking for love in all the wrong places,” she managed to impart through her mostly frozen lips.

“He’ll have to keep lookin’ then because I’m straight as an arrow, woman,” Mack growled, his eyes skating hungrily over her pretty face.

“Doc, why are you tellin’ me this stuff?” Millie asked, trying desperately to understand where and when this new and open Mackenzie had emerged. Would she find the ‘Old Mackenzie’ collapsed at his desk in the office? Was she hallucinating? What exactly had been in her sandwich from the diner?

“That’s what friends do, right? Share and shit like that?” he asked with a careless shrug.

“I reckon,” Millie mumbled. “But maybe we should think about getting back to the office. It’s almost two and you’ve got a 2:30 with Sandy Bingham.” Honestly, she was more than a little nervous standing here with him because suddenly Mack was eyeing her like she was a steak and he was a very hungry animal. And crazily enough, she found herself not minding in the least the idea of being his meal.

Ignoring her reminder of his afternoon appointment, he kept staring at her. “So, is that a yes to spending tomorrow with me?”

“I… uh…. I guess, if that’s really what you want,” she agreed, her cheeks blushing as she tried to make herself stop fidgeting like a teenage girl being asked on her first date.

“What about tonight? Are you busy tonight?” he asked.

“I don’t think so. Why?”

“Because, you haven’t seen my place. I want to show it to you so that you can get an idea of what we’ll need. I’ll even feed you if you’ll agree to help me out,” he offered calmly.

“I…you’re sure about this?” she asked, not quite able to believe that this man was volunteering to spend time with her. Or hell, with anybody really. Mack was a loner. Everyone, including her, knew it. He’d already knocked her off her axis with the news that he’d once had a wife. Now, he was acting like — dare she even imagine it – like he was actually interested in her?

“I’m positive. And maybe tonight could be an adults-only evening since tomorrow will be kid-friendly,” he suggested smoothly.

“Uhmmm – okay,” she agreed slowly, nodding. “I’m sure my mom and dad won’t mind watching Paisley for a few hours.”

“Good,” Mack declared with a satisfied nod as he reached around Millie to open the vehicle’s door for her. “Then I’ll pick you up at your place around six. Is that enough time to get off work and get Paisley to your parents’ house?”

Millie nodded as she began to climb into the cab of the truck, her mind reeling as she tried to keep up with their conversation. Things were happening so quickly that she felt like she’d somehow fallen into an alternate universe – one where sexy-as-sin doctors wanted to spend time with her outside of work. “Yeah, that’ll be…great,” she acknowledged, her voice a little shaky. Offering him a dazed look, she shook her head.

“What?” he growled in that surly voice she knew so well.

“I don’t understand what’s happening here, Doc,” she said truthfully. “Have you just asked me out on a date?” she asked, her eyes twinkling with enthusiasm as her heart pounded in her chest.

Mack’s face flushed and he shrugged. “Why is it so important to women to label everything? We’re gonna share a meal tonight. If you wanna call it a date, I can’t stop you,” he declared before slamming the door on her reply.

“I’ll be damned,” Millie muttered to herself as she watched him slowly circle the SUV to reach the driver’s side. “It’s an honest-to-God Christmas miracle.”

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

The Homespun Holiday was a great fun, feel good read in the Passion in Paradise series from the Sarah O’Rourke ladies.

I loved the grumpy Mack and his ever so patient nurse Millie. This pair were great together and add in Paisley, Millie’s daughter, they were a fab wee family unit without even realising it!

With laugh out loud moments, this was a sweet, heartwarming Christmas tale that also had heat and passion (because it wouldn’t be a Sarah O’R story without the chemistry)
I adored out visit back to Paradise and catching up with some of the character that live there and –
fingers crossed – meeting some new potential characters for books to come!!!

I’m giving The Homespun Holiday 4*.

RELEASE TOUR ~ Last Girl by KS Thomas.

LAST GIRL

AUTHOR: K.S. Thomas

GENRE: Contemporary Romance
COVER DESIGN: Najla Qamber Designs
CONTENT WARNING: Adult language / Mature Content

When Beatrix ‘Trix’ Daley loses her twin brother Bo in a tragic accident, she inadvertently gains his best friend, Penn, whether she wants him or not. Penn is the exact opposite of her brother. Obnoxious. Cocky. And out to sleep with as many women as possible. But he knows. He gets it. Because he lost Bo, too.

Penn’s been going out of his way to piss off Trix since he was six. Twenty years later, and getting under her skin is still his favorite pastime. And Bo’s still the only thing that keeps them tied together. Even if he has been dead for eight years.

For better or worse, Trix and Penn have been the constant in each other’s lives, and the line between love and hate continues to blur at a steady rate…but Trix is the last girl on earth a guy like Penn should fall for. So there’s no telling which side of love and hate they’ll wind up on when all is said and done. And whether they’ll wind up there, still together…or not.

Trix smells like Lucky Charms and her cherry pomegranate soap. I hate when she stands this close to me. She always makes me hungry. And not for cereal.

“You wanna talk about where you were when I walked in here?” I know where she was. Getting sucked in by the darkness. I’ve seen it happen often enough over the years to recognize the signs, I just can’t figure out how to stop her from going.

“Just thinking about starting my new job tomorrow.”

Liar.

But I’ll go along with it. For now. “Private practice this time, right?”

She nods, and her eyes shoot straight up again until they’re laser locked to my forehead and the work she’s doing there. “Yeah. Dr. Patterson. He’s a plastic surgeon who specializes in reparative surgeries. Does tons of pro-bono work helping families whose babies were born with birth defects.”

That explains her interest in working for him. Trix doesn’t do anything unless it’s for some cause or another.

I notice her gaze drop automatically expecting my response. It’s funny how it happens even when she’s so clearly fighting it.

“Sounds like your kind of doctor.”

I can feel her pressing down the small strips of tape over my brow. Then she steps back, examining her work. “Hope so. I interviewed with his office manager, so I haven’t actually met him yet. Kind of nervous, actually. What if he doesn’t like me? I really need this job.”

I rest my hands on her hips, twisting them back and forth playfully in hopes it will get her to smile.

“Come on, Trix. Not like you? How would that even be possible?”

She arches her brow skeptically. “You don’t like me.”

“Yeah, but that’s different.”

Her eyes widen and she throws her hands up at me. “How exactly is that different?”

“Because.” Still, I grasp her hips again and move her toward me, staring straight up into her teal eyes which are currently trying to ice me to death. “I love you, so liking you isn’t necessary.”

“Yeah well, I’m not sure what you feel for me is love. It’s more like hate that got so old and moldy it became unrecognizable to the point it could be easily confused for love.”

I smirk.

“You sound like you’ve put some thought into this. Are you saying that what you feel for me is nothing but old and moldy hate?”

She presses down on my shoulders to push herself away from me and out of the hold I keep placing on her. “Yeah. Pretty much.” Then she busies herself cleaning up the bloody gauze and leftover supplies from fixing up my face. She pauses briefly, a look on her face like she’s just thought of something. “Do me a favor and don’t pick at that. I’ll check it when I get home tomorrow and change it out if I have to. It should be fine though. Couple of days and it’ll be well on its way to healing.”

“Thanks.” But I don’t move. I just sit here and continue to watch her clean up. She’s back in her head, unraveling. And I can’t stop it.

So, Penn. You’re a single, attractive guy. Let’s jump right in with some of the more important questions. When it comes to women, what are some of the qualities you’re looking for?

Trix: It’s not so much their qualities as it is their parts. If they’ve got double ds and a vagina, he’s pretty much interested.

Penn: Shows how much you know. Shocking though it may seem to you, I actually do have some standards.

Trix: Name one.

Penn: Alright. Here’s one. They have to know how to match their damn socks.

Trix: Jackass.

Now, now you two. Let’s keep this friendly, shall we? Alright, so maybe we should approach this from another angle. Why did your last relationship end, Penn?

Penn (glances at Trix) : What? You didn’t want to jump in on this one?

She shrugs.

Penn: My last relationship, if you can even call it that, ended because she was a psycho who liked to watch me in my sleep.

I feel ya, Penn. No one likes the psycho-stalker types. Next question, lets see…okay, now that we know what you’re not into, lets talk about you. What would you say is your greatest quality?

Penn: My loyalty. Which some might find ironic, but the people I care about, they know I’ve always got their backs.

I’m sure that’s something your friends really appreciate knowing about you. One last question before it’s Trix’s turn.

Penn: Shoot.

What is in your refrigerator right now?

Penn: Um, probably some water bottles, a half empty jug of OJ and a box of Pizza from Julian’s. We don’t tend to do a lot of grocery shopping at the house.

Trix, you’re up. Since it’s pretty apparent the two of you have a rather close, albeit rocky, relationship, what would you say is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to living with Penn?

Trix: You mean other than him leaving the toilet seat up? I don’t know. There’s the way he drinks and eats everything straight out of the containers. Or, the way he insists on walking around naked…yeah, I know, like what’s my problem, right?! Well, you try talking to him about day to day stuff while his junk is hanging out. It’s not all that easy.

No, I imagine it wouldn’t be. Although, I’m not sure I’d be complaining about it. Anyway, moving right along. What would you say is your greatest accomplishment to date?

Trix: I don’t know that I would call it an accomplishment, but what I’m most proud of is the work I’ve been able to do through Doctors Without Borders. It just means so much to me to be able to go out and do what I was trained to do in places where help is so lacking and so desperately needed.

That’s really admirable, Trix.

Trix: Thank you.

Wow, that was some serious stuff, let’s lighten things up a bit. What would you say is your all time favorite movie.

Trix: Practical Magic. I could watch that movie over and over again.

Penn: No shit.

Trix: You love that movie and you know it.

Penn:I do NOT love that movie and YOU know it.

Trix: Then why do you have it memorized?

Penn: Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because you’ve made me watch it a hundred million times.

Trix: Be serious, Penn. I can’t make you do anything you don’t secretly want to.

Well, I get the feeling you two are getting derailed here again, so I’m going to close the interview with my last question for Trix. What is on your nightstand at this very moment?

Trix: On my nightstand? That would be my lamp and a framed picture of my brother,Bo, Penn and myself, taken when we were kids shortly after we started school together.

Where it all began.

Penn: You have no idea…

Dog Lover who likes her pastries full of cream and sugar….oh…and I write some 😉

Aside from being an author, I am also a mom to a beautiful 5 year old little girl. I tell everyone I named her after my great-grandmother (because that’s the mature answer), but really, I named her after my favorite princess – just so happens I got lucky and they had the same name…If I wasn’t a writer, I would work on a horse ranch – I’m an animal lover (in addition to dogs, horses are at the top of my list). I wear flip-flops pretty much everywhere I go. I would rather stay awake until 5 am than get up at 5 am (years of bar tending have left their mark), if I can, I’m going to the beach AND I will always be nice to people who bring me chocolate…or coffee…if you bring me both, I’ll probably love you forever.A gypsy at heart, I write the way I live, following the story wherever it may lead, always ready to start the next one. This is clearly reflected in my body of work which to date includes everything from Children’s Lit to Thrillers.
I happily reside in sunny Florida (for now) and always enjoy hearing from fellow readers!!

“Probably as much as it hurt me,” Jace admitted. He pulled her in for a hug, ignoring the way she batted her fists on his chest in irritation. She stared up at him, fire in her eyes, and he just wanted to kiss her.

His mouth was on hers before either of them could say another word.

She surrendered, going limp in his strong arms. His tongue swept across her lips and she opened to him, lost in the taste she had craved for so long. Her hands moved to his shirt, and he pulled away long enough to tug it over his head before continuing those amazing kisses. Her hands slid along his back, softly touching the scarred flesh.

“I want you, Fi,” Jace grabbed the hem of her dress and lifted, yanking it over her head. One sparkling comb was left dangling on the left side of her hair, and he watched her grab it and toss it across the room, unfazed. His tongue traced his bottom lip as he stared at the matching black lace bra and panties.

She reached for his belt and roughly tugged him closer, unfastening it and his pants, leaving him completely exposed to her gaze. She didn’t stare at his scars or look away in pity, she just grabbed his length and teased at the head with one bright green thumbnail as he stepped forward, leaving his pants behind. He groaned as he firmed up under her touch. He hoped not to disappoint her, since he’d never been with a woman. She was the only woman who had seen him without a shirt since his mom. The way she touched him, unashamed, he had to wonder if she’d ever been with a man, or men. He didn’t care. By the time he was done with her, she’d forget that other men even existed.

AUTHOR BIO

ShiftedforLove-wrap-web

Hi! I’m an author from the Midwestern United States. I’m an avid reader of anything romance! I’ve worked as a travel agent, nursing assistant, and a paralegal before chasing my dream of full-time writing. I love to travel, swim, cook, and I’m more than a little addicted to a certain social media website…

Currently, I write paranormal and science-fiction romance. My plan is to branch out in several romance sub-genres, but my books will always end in the infamous Happily Ever After.

Always hot, always sexy, my male characters will protect their women at all costs, and my female characters will be…I like to call it “feisty.” I believe every story and character should be unique, and it’s something I always strive to do.

Reading should be an escape from everyday life, so I hope you enjoy my version of a vacation for you!

Fun Facts about me:

1. I love birds! I have one (a parakeet).
2. I’m double-jointed, which led to teasing as a kid (which I also found funny)!
3. I have a shoe addiction! Mainly embellished flip-flops, but other kinds too (not heals, I’d break my ankles).
4. I missed a college 4.0 GPA in the very last semester when one professor gave me a B (still upset about that!)!
5. I am very OCD about certain things (see #6).
6. I have an extensive DVD/BluRay collection and it has to be kept in alphabetical order!
7. My favorite vacations involve a cruise. I’ve been on 15 so far!
8. I’m quiet and sort of shy until I get to know a person.
9. I’m quick witted and believe sarcasm is my best friend.
10. I hate hot weather.
