“What the heck just happened?” Wait. Had she said that out loud?

Langston shifted his large frame, closing the space between them. “I think I just became an important part of your event staff.”

Dammit. She had said it out loud.

She spun to face him, steam practically billowing from her ears. “Why did you do that? You undermined my authority, not to mention the fact that you know this is a bad idea.” Her head snapped around to make sure no one was listening. Thank goodness the council was already filtering toward the door. “You know how people in this town are. If we spend a lot of time together, which we will with you as the safety officer, they’ll start talking.”

“So let them talk.” He shrugged.

So angry she was at a loss for words, she simply let out a frustrated huff.

Langston stared at his mug, the muscle in his jaw ticking. Finally, he said, “Hell. If you don’t want people to talk about us, then maybe we shouldn’t have been sleeping together the past ten years.”

Twelve years. If the two years of hot and heavy making out in high school didn’t count.

“That’s over, remember?” How could he not? She’d told him to his face, so he could finally move on without her dragging him down like an anchor sinking a ship.

Langston leaned closer. “If it makes you feel better, then keep telling yourself that.” He placed his mug on the table. “But you and I both know it’s never going to be over between us.”

He turned to leave but hesitated. “Mr. Brooks? Really? I know you’ve always wanted to keep our relationship a secret, but calling me Mr. Brooks when I’ve seen you naked…” His gaze slid down her length. Even though she was clothed in full winter gear, his eyes darkened as though he was picturing her with nothing on at all.

Her skin prickled, and the room suddenly grew warm. Heat slid through her, settling between her thighs. She clenched every muscle from the waist down.

“Yes, well…” She hugged her papers to her chest. “It was fun, but it’s time to move on. This will be nothing more than work between us.” She smiled, realizing she did have a card to play. “And as far as the snowboarding event is concerned, I’m your boss.”

A slow, naughty smile spread across his face. “That makes it all the more interesting.” He strolled through the front door, leaving her staring after him.

I laugh. “Whatever you want Mallory. Whatever you want,” I say, barely holding it together.
“Challenge accepted,” she says grinning. This gives me a perfect view of her straight white teeth. Fuck, even those are pretty. God, who thinks teeth are pretty besides dentists? She puts on the first season of a show. A few hours and several episodes later, I’m hooked. It’s hilarious.
“What is this?” I ask. I get really into the show, but every so often, I look over at Mallory and stare at her. Thankfully, she doesn’t see me. I am sure I look like a fucking creeper.
“The British version of The Office. I’ve seen the American one, but I think this one is funnier.”
“Don’t you need to write?” I ask. She smiles brightly and her brown eyes shine with it.
“You know about that, huh?”
“Margo told me,” I say, laughing.
“Oh Lordy, I can just imagine what she said. I do need to write, but I’m having a better time with you,” she says, smiling yet again. I can’t help smiling as well.
“Me too.” Right then, my grumbling stomach reminds me that I haven’t eaten since five this morning. “So, what’s good to eat around here?”
“Is this your first time in New York?” she asks, tapping her finger on her chin. Damn, she is adorable.
“Yes,” I say, nodding.
“Well then, pizza of course. Do you want to go out or order in?”
“Order in. I’m exhausted from traveling today.” I’m still leery of social situations, I know that I’m cringing, but she doesn’t say anything. She just nods understandingly.
“Okay,” she says. “I know the perfect place to order from. What kind do you want?”
“Pepperoni and mushroom,” I reply.
“Ooh, me too,” she says, and I listen as she grabs her phone and orders two large pies.
“That’s ambitious,” I say when she hangs up.
“What?”
“Two large pies? How are you ever going to eat that much?”
“You’d be surprised; besides, I love leftover pizza.” She shrugs as she gets up from the couch and heads into the kitchen. “I have red wine or Foster’s,” she yells. I already don’t like that she is out of my sight.

I continue my trek up the path and ring the doorbell, hoping Addison answers the door. She has been avoiding me the last couple of days. Heather said something about an ex popping up out of nowhere. It doesn’t seem like there’s anything for me to worry about on that front, but it still has me feeling uneasy.
“If it isn’t the devil incarnate,” Addison’s voice interrupts my thoughts. My eyes instantly begin to devour her figure. I map her body from head to toe.
“Hello, Addison.”
“No witty comeback or snarky retort today? Are you losing your touch?” she asks with a raised eyebrow. I can only smirk in return, I’m trying desperately not to shove my way through the door. Her breathing starts to pick up as the tension thickens between us.
“You can feel it, don’t you?” I growl, stepping closer to her. I drop Delilah’s leash and wrap my arm around Addison’s waist pulling her closer to my body. Luckily Delilah goes directly into the house.
“Get your hands off me,” Addison whimpers.
“You want me, don’t you?” I whisper into her ear, running my nose down the curve of her neck. She moans in response. Pushing my way through the door, I kick it shut with my foot. I spin both of us around, pinning Addison to the door.
“I’m going to fuck you now.” There’s no mistake about it. I can’t wait any longer, my cock is rock hard and ready to take her.
“I hate you,” she says, the fire in her eyes makes me want her even more.
“I hate you too, but that’s beside the point. I’m still going to fuck you.” I lean down and devour her mouth, nipping at her lips until she grants me entry. A nervous laugh escapes her lips. “Is that another warning? I told you I feel safe,” she says firmly, her voice too filled with lust to be taken very seriously.

I can’t blame her because that same need pulses through me, even though a nagging feeling sits on my chest, like I’m taking something that isn’t mine. I don’t want to hurt her or me. I sure as hell don’t want to cause trouble between her and Flynn, but my resolve has diminished, and like a moth to a flame, I’m consumed by her.

As my tongue runs over her pert nipple, it stands to attention. I’ve never wanted anyone like I want her now with her dark hair messy and splayed on the bed, her green eyes filled with heat so alluring. She’s quite the temptress, and she isn’t even trying.

I’ve noticed over the years she has a wall erected around her not with my sister but with other people, especially those of the opposite sex, and although I don’t know what it’s about, it makes me feel special knowing she trusts me enough, that she cares about me enough, to want to give this precious gift to me.

“Good, baby, I want to make this feel good for you.” My mouth hovers over her delectable nipple as my tongue draws circles around it, making her buck beneath me.

“Ah!” she cries out, pressing her wet pussy into me.

“Fuck, I can feel how wet you are through my jeans,” I hiss.

About the ELEMENTS OF FIVE series

One thousand years ago, there was one realm of magic. The Maison Realm. It held five kingdoms with five kings or queens, who worked together to keep the Maison people safe and ensure the balance of magic. Over the last five hundred years following the Fall, the great war that began the fracture, many of the kingdoms’ inhabitants intermated, and the magics soon became tied to one another in pairs.
