RELEASE DAY BLITZ ~ Until You’re Mine by Jenika Snow

CoraHe left eight years ago for the military. That was the hardest time of my life. Xavier was the boy who’d sneak into my bed at night and hold me as my parents fought in the next room.
My protector.
My best friend.
The man I was in love with.
The man I’d saved my virginity for.
And now he was back home for good. Too much time had passed. I was done keeping us in the friend zone. I wanted him in my life in every way that counted.
So if he wasn’t going to make the first move then I would, even if it might ruin what we had. Because I had to take that chance.

Xavier

She was my life, the very reason I breathed.
I saved my virginity for Cora because no one else compared. No one else ever would.
It was time I man up and tell Cora that she was the only girl I’d ever loved, that no matter how much time had passed she’d been it for me.
But how could I go about doing that when eight years had gone by? Admitting how I felt was hard as hell seeing as we’d always just been friends. How could I not cross any lines and screw up the relationship we had?
Easy. I’d tell her I loved her and propose.

Warning: Sit back, relax, and dive into a double virgin friends-to-lovers romance that’s so sugary sweet your teeth will ache. Although it’ll tug at your heartstrings, make no mistake it’s as filthy as can be. A standalone romance with no drama and just the juicy bits, this story features cameo appearances by Asher, Cash, and Trevor Mayson from Aurora Rose Reynolds Until series.

I took the few steps it required to get to the front door, reached out, and curled my hand around the brass handle. I pulled it open and a little bell above the door jingled at my entrance.
“Welcome to Sweet Treats,” Cora said, her back still toward me. “I’ll be right with you. Just got to put these buns down,” she said and laughed softly. I couldn’t help but smile that she still had that sense of humor, the one where she’d laugh at her own jokes.
God, her voice sounded like angels singing. I felt dizzy, lightheaded with being so close to her. She didn’t even know I stood only feet from her, the anticipation building inside of me.
She had a tray in her hands as she turned around, her focus on the baked goods. I found myself taking a step closer, and then another one. I swear I could smell her, this sweet, floral scent that brought back memories, that was completely Cora. Her scent was stronger than the bakery aroma, the one of donuts and rolls, sweet little treats that they baked by hand.
And then she lifted her eyes and our gazes locked. For long seconds we just stared at each other, the realization that I was standing just feet from her covering her face. It was the sound of the tray she held crashing to the floor that had me rushing back to reality.
Something in me snapped and I couldn’t help myself. I stalked toward her, placed my hands on the counter that separated us, and scaled the fucker. I had her in my arms seconds later, her body so much smaller than mine, her scent slamming into my head and making me drunk. I was so damn possessive. All I wanted to do was throw her over my shoulder and take her far from here.
Silence stretched between us, but it was perfect.
“Is this really happening?” she whispered against my chest and I tightened my arms around her. “Are you really here, Xavier?” I could hear the tears in her voice, knew she was probably crying. I was on the verge of crying myself.
I don’t know how long I held her, seconds, minutes, Hell, maybe I’d been standing there for hours. She was the one who pulled back, but I didn’t want to let her go. I looked down at her, at the tears tracking down her cheeks. I reached out and brushed them away, wanting to bring that wetness to my mouth and memorize it, take it into me.
“You’re really here,” she whispered again and I couldn’t help but smile.
“I’m really here.” And then I pulled her in for another hug, wanting to just kiss her senseless, but also knowing that I needed to take this slow. I needed to work up to that, tell her how I felt, that I was so madly in love with her I could barely breathe.
I needed to do a lot of things, but I had all the time in the world.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

I thoroughly enjoyed Ditched. Becket Jones was a total hottie and a complete sweetheart and so deserved his HEA but for just a wee while I wasn’t entirely sure that Ivy Hayes deserved huis attention or the love he had for her… and then something happened with her and I found that I actually really liked her character.

The book had humour, heat and heartache in equal measures and I liked the way their relationship grew and how things were eventually worked through for this pair!

My only issue with the storyline was the secret and why she felt she had to keep it ti herself for as long as she did. Maybe, just maybe, if she’d trusted Becket as much as he wanted her to she’d have found a way to lay her demons to rest earlier and easier than she did!!

I really liked the supporting cast of characters and even though I know how things have panned out for Knox and EJ, I’m still gonna go back and read their book as soon as I have time. I’m also looking forward to hopefully meeting more of the team in future books.

I was giving Ditched 4.5* but then I read the bonus scene that RC Boldt gave us and that kicked my rating up to 4.75* – seriously, that extra wee read put a huge smile on my face!

Synopsis

Everly wasn’t excited over her impending meeting with the enigmatic Prince Sage. Being one of only four women from whom the Prince gets to choose in marriage was never something she valued. Her goal was to politely and elegantly remove herself from a forced wedding due to long standing traditions. Handsome Prince or not, she won’t marry for anything but love.

Once Sage proceeds to the next candidate, Everly finally feels she can move forward with her life. On her own terms. That is, until she receives a mysterious request, asking her to solve a riddle, taking her on a night she’ll never forget.

A fervent adventure ensues, and attraction builds as the excitement of the night unfolds. Sparks fly in more ways than one just as she finds out who’s stealing her heart.

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Sparks Fly was a good read though it didn’t grab me until about maybe a third of the way through….. I liked both Sage and Everly and I got that neither wanted to enter into a forced marriage, but there was just something about their early interactions that didn’t sit well with me – probably that both were hiding truths from the other.

The text message and the ‘game’ scenario was a little weird to start with but I think the more we got to find out about both characters it did suit them and I could run with it.

This was the first book by Lauren Runow that I’ve read. I liked the message that the book was sending out, I enjoyed most of the supporting characters – especially Logan and Joey – but I did want to throat punch one or three others, especially the possible future wife and her father and definitely Sage’s father, he was by far the worst of them all.

A quick read, I finished it in about half a day, it was enjoyable – if at times a little clichéd and predictable – but I just wish it had held my attention a tad more and I still feel that there was a little something missing.

3*

Heaven was Samara in a little green dress.

Beckett watched her walk across the lobby, her mile-long legs eating up the distance with ease. That glimpse of wildness she’d given him last night was in full effect today, her hair a mass of black waves that seemed to curl and snap around her shoulders with each step. Her dress fitted her like a second skin, sloping down over her breasts, her stomach, to her hips and thighs.

But it was her dark eyes that drew and held him. Anger and desire and something like guilt lingered there, and she held his gaze as she stopped in front of him. “Do I meet your expectation?”

“You’re beautiful.”

She arched a single eyebrow. “I know.”

That surprised a laugh out of him. Beckett turned to the elevator bank and offered his elbow. The gentlemanly move was over-the-top for their current circumstances, but he couldn’t be this close to her without touching her. Kissing her now, here, was a terrible damn idea, so he’d settle for the small touch. “No false modesty. I like that.”

“I think we’ve established that I don’t operate based on what you like.” Despite her words, amusement pulled at the edges of her lips, and she set her hand carefully on his forearm. “Every time I think I have your number down, you surprise me. Most guys get pissy pants if a woman doesn’t fall at their feet when they call her beautiful.”

“I’m not most guys.” He waited for the elevator door to open and led her onto it. “You can’t fit me into a box and write me off, Samara.”

“I’m beginning to see that.” She shook her head, her hair brushing against his shoulder. “My life would be a whole lot easier if I could.”

He couldn’t argue that, so he didn’t bother. Beckett took them up to the executive level. He noted the way she studied everything, obviously filing away every bit of information she could lay her eyes on. “What does Lydia pay you these days?”

She dropped her arm and stepped back. “Oh no. I don’t think so.” She pointed at him. “We went over this last night. I’m not for sale.”

“It’s an innocent question.”

“It is most definitely not an innocent question.” She looked like she wanted to take off her shoe and throw it at his head. “I don’t care what issue you and your aunt have. I’m not part of it. You don’t get to use me as leverage. I’m not a pawn for either of you to sacrifice in this pissing match you have going on.”

Shame tried to take hold, but he wouldn’t let it. Samara knew the game, no matter how much it apparently offended her. “I’m the bad guy for trying to offer you a job, but I’m sure you agreed to show up here solely out of the goodness of your heart.” He pretended to think about it. “Wait, no you didn’t—which you already admitted. You’re here because Lydia wants to do whatever it takes to sink Morningstar. Full stop.” He motioned at the offices behind him. “Wake up, Samara. I’m only playing the game she made the rules for.”

She took in the empty COO office on the other side of the glass wall. “She poached your employees.”

“Convenient timing, don’t you think?”

“You’re not still harping on that paranoid talk about Lydia meeting Nathaniel.” Samara hesitated and then moved to stand in front of him. She pressed her lips together and then very gently said, “Do you think maybe it’s a good idea for you to talk to someone?”

Beckett jerked back. “What?”

There was nothing but sympathy in her dark eyes. “I’m serious, Beckett. I’ve known you a long time, at least by reputation, and this delusion you have going isn’t like you. Is it possible that Nathaniel’s death is hitting you harder than you realize? That you’re fixating on Lydia instead of your own grief because it’s easier to deal with an enemy than face the fact you can never make things right with your father?”

Every word flayed him, cutting to the quick. Beckett gritted his teeth against the need to tell Samara that she was the one who wasn’t thinking clearly. To yell. To expel some of the ugliness that had been brewing in him for a very, very long time. “I didn’t call you here to offer you a job, and I sure as hell don’t need a shrink.”

She stood her ground as he advanced. Her heels put them at the same height and she still managed to look down her nose at him. “Then why did you call me here?”

Because I can’t spend another moment alone without going out of my mind.

He didn’t say it. To admit how long it had been since he’d felt a connection with another person was to hand Samara—Lydia—a loaded gun and invite her to point it directly at him. He didn’t answer her verbally at all. Beckett cupped her waist and slowly pulled her against him, giving her plenty of time to register his intentions.

“Beckett.” Despair colored her tone and she gave a desperate laugh. “What are we doing?”

“I don’t know.” Using a hand on the small of her back, he pressed her firmly against him. “I don’t want to stop.”

Samara hesitated, but finally placed her hands gingerly against his chest. He waited, letting her decide. Yes or no. Push or pull. Stay or go. She hitched a breath. “I don’t want to stop, either.”

BLP REVIEW ~ Tracy

Katee Robert is now solidly in my top 10 favourtie author list…. The Last King was an excellent start to what I know is gonna be a fantastic new series….

Neither Beckett or Samara were what I was expecting as I started reading.. Yeah, both were driven, determined and work focused, but as they spent time together and got to really know each other we got to see the real them and as their relationship developed, so did their characters and how much I liked them.

Ms Robert knows how to write one hell of an entertaining and engrosing book. Her storylines are interesting and believable, the characters possess depth and feel real – and hell can she conjure up a real detestable enemy – and her hot as hell encounters between the leading couple truly steam up the kindle!!

I LOVED this first book in The Kings series and cannot wait to find out more about Journey and Frank!!!

Without doubt, a recommended 5* read!

BLOG TOUR ~ All At Once It’s You by Rosie Chapel

All At Once It’s You
Author: Rosie Chapel

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 16, 2018

When Alex arrives in the small village of Rosedale Abbey, to take up a position as a research assistant for a renowned archaeologist, the last thing she is looking for, or expects to find, is love.

Jake was perfectly happy with the status quo. When it came to relationships, he didn’t do committed or long term. He called the shots, and if his current flame didn’t like it, she knew what to do. A philosophy, which served him well – until he met Alex.

Romance blooms, but even as the untamed wilderness of the North Yorkshire moors weaves its spell, a long buried secret might yet jeopardise their happily ever after.

It was late morning, when a scream rent the peace. It continued — scream after scream after scream. Jake and Reuben shot along to Alex’s room, to see her tossing on the bed, grappling with the bedclothes.

“Now do you believe she’s afraid of storms?” Reuben said, pointedly.

“Leave her to me, Dad. Would you make another coffee?” Jake moved to the bed and sitting down, tried to get hold of Alex’s flailing hands. Despite receiving a couple of good smacks to the chest, he caught them, and drew her towards him. Shuffling until he was leaning against the headboard, he tucked her snugly against his long frame. Alex fought him off, but he didn’t relax his hold, and eventually, her screams died away, to be replaced by shuddering sobs, which shook her body, words spilling unintelligibly from her lips. Unable to make neither head nor tail of what she was muttering, Jake didn’t try, just stroked his hand up and down her back, trying to calm her.

Slowly, slowly, she quieted, her sobs becoming hiccups. She must have felt safe, because her hand crept over his waist, coming to rest on his stomach, and without thinking he entwined his fingers through hers, stroking her palm with his thumb. She settled against him, head now on his chest, falling back into a deeper sleep.

Reluctant to move, in case he woke her, Jake waited until Reuben came in with the drinks. His father said nothing, merely placed two coffees on the bedside table and left, closing the door behind him. Jake studied the woman he was almost sharing a bed with, trying to work out why she evoked such powerful emotions in him. He had never reacted to a woman, to anyone, the way he reacted to Alex. Reuben was right, they had enjoyed being together. He loved her wit and humour; he loved her intelligence, and the way her face lit up when she talked about Ancient Rome, their lively banter, and her mischievous sense of fun.

He loved her … wait loved her…? Nope — absolutely no way.

Love didn’t come into this equation. If he loved anyone, it was Diana but, even as he thought this, Jake realised, with a sinking heart, he didn’t. Diana was the perfect companion for any number of reasons, but although he enjoyed her company, there was no blaze, no desperation to see her again, no feeling of sadness when they parted.

Brooding over this, a series of pictures insinuated themselves into his mind. The day he came upon Alex curled up on the sofa, hugging a cushion while fighting back tears over a scene from one of her favourite movies. When she and Reuben fell about laughing at some badly researched historical documentary. Her wild gesticulations when she was excited about something — be it a new source she had teased out or simply because she had seen a fledgling finally take flight. Her vivid face, her eloquent eyes, her soft lips … as his thoughts spiralled out, a line from one of those goddamn musicals she insisted on listening to, drifted through his mind. Alex had been singing it the other day, when she thought herself alone.

How did it go again…? ‘…now all at once it’s you, it’s you for evermore.’

Oh, bloody hell!

Aiko swung with all her might, striking her assailant in the face this time. His breath left him in a rush, foul with the stench of alcohol and cigarettes. He swayed with the strike, but remained upright, and slurred something obscene at her. She tugged her arm, trying to twist free of his grip, her heart hammering against her chest, but he tightened his grip, squeezing her bones.

She gritted her teeth against the pain.

The only other man in the carriage looked in the opposite direction as she fought with the salaryman. Chikushō. Damn it.

The door beyond the male slid open and she froze as a handsome foreigner stepped through, his tall frame eating up the space. Black hair grazed his cheek, shorn short all around the sides but left long on top, swept forward so it almost obscured one of his eyes.

Those ethereal blue eyes locked on her.

She shivered, cold sweeping through her at the emptiness they contained, no trace of feeling.

The salaryman tried to pull her towards him again.

The newcomer strode towards her, his eyes turning stormy as he shifted them to the person manhandling her and closed the distance between them.

In the blink of an eye, his right hand closed around the man’s throat and he was off her, slammed against the train door by the foreigner who stood at least eight inches taller than him. The man leaned in close to the drunk, looked as if he wanted to say something as the salaryman began babbling in fear, and then eased back.

She thought he might release the man.

He pulled him away from the door, and slammed him back against it with enough force that the man passed out and the entire carriage jolted. The foreigner huffed as he released the man and watched him slump to the floor, and wiped his hand on his coat, as if the man had some sort of disease that he didn’t want to get.

When he turned towards her, those stormy blue eyes lowering to meet hers, she bent forwards and dropped her head.

“Thank you,” she said in English, hopeful that he would understand and would hear the true measure of her gratitude in her voice. It shook as she bowed several times, unable to stop herself as her adrenaline waned and all the fear it had been holding at bay swept over her.

He responded in perfect Japanese. “Don’t ride alone so late at night, or at least use the women-only carriage.”

She wanted to tell him that the women-only carriage wasn’t available on the last trains, but held her tongue, not wanting to appear ungrateful for his help. She nodded, rubbed the tears from her face with the back of her hand and sniffed as she straightened.

The man looked her over, his eyes revealing nothing to her. They settled on her hands as she clutched her backpack, and she tried to stop them from trembling, but no matter what she did, they kept shaking.

“Are you alright?” he said in Japanese again, and she swore there was a flicker of concern in those words even if it didn’t show in his eyes.

She nodded again. “Fine.”

The train eased to a halt and the doors slid open, and relief crashed over her when she saw it was her stop. She stepped off the train, glaring at the sleeping salaryman as she passed, tempted to level a kick at him. When she looked back to thank the stranger again, he was stood on the platform beside her, his eyes dark as he stared at the man, looking as if he wanted to do more than just kick him.

He huffed as he turned away, his motions stiff, as if he had to fight himself to do it, and muttered, “Fuck.”

Aiko followed his gaze to the station sign.

The way he sighed had her eyes roaming back to him. He was at least seven inches taller than her, and probably would have been closer to ten above her five-six height if she hadn’t been wearing her shoes. A black cotton coat that reached the ankles of his worn leather boots hugged his slender frame, tight to his chest but flared from his waist. The split down the front revealed blue jeans tucked into the tops of his army boots.

He shifted back a step, placing more distance between them, and looked away from her, back in the direction the train had come. “Guess I’m walking.”

She had studied English in school, and took classes at her university, so she knew enough to understand him and the implications of his words—he had missed his stop.

“I could call… you… a cab.” She managed, with only a few pauses to think of the right words.

While she studied English, she didn’t get to practice it much. Her parents didn’t know it, and she only got to speak it with her classmates, and a lot of the time they only wanted to speak Japanese and were just learning English so they could put it on their résumé.

He shook his head but didn’t look at her.

She thought about going ahead and calling him a taxi anyway, her eyes drifting back down the height of him as she considered it. Her gaze stopped on his hand.

Blood covered the side of it.

“You’re hurt,” she said in English and pointed to his hand.

He looked at it as if it was nothing and wasn’t bothering him at all.

Had he done it when helping her?

“Chikushō,” she muttered to herself and thoughts of hailing him a cab were replaced by ones about returning the favour by helping him. It was risky, but she owed him, and she couldn’t let him go without tending to the wound. She just hoped he knew enough Japanese to understand her. She pointed to his hand again. “My parents run a small clinic below our house. I can help with that.”

He regarded her with cold assessing eyes, and she had the feeling he was the one who didn’t trust her.

As if she could hurt him.

He was far more powerful than she was, and had proven it on the train. She wasn’t a threat to him.

So why did he look as if she might be?

It was there in his eyes as she looked deeper into them, and she could feel it as she focused on him. Just a glimmer of a feeling, but it was there. Hazy, but clear enough that she could name the emotion.

Part of him feared her.

“I would like to help,” she added softly, and he looked back down at his hand again, the black slashes of his eyebrows meeting hard above his darkening eyes.

When he lifted them back to her, they were colder than before, and she moved back a step as a feeling went through her, one that warned her away from him. He glanced over his shoulder again, and then back at the station sign.

Sugamo.

Which stop had he wanted?

“Why would you trust me?” His deep voice rolled over her, his accent almost perfect.

If she closed her eyes, she could easily fool herself into thinking she was talking to a Japanese man, not a foreigner.

Where had he learned her language? He spoke it as if he had been doing it every day of his life. Had he been born in Japan?

No, she could feel that he hadn’t been born in this land, that he didn’t really belong here. It was a sensation that he didn’t fit or wasn’t welcome, one that most people would put down to instinct, but that ran deeper in her.

In her blood.

She studied his face as she answered him. “Why wouldn’t I?”

He frowned at her. “Because I could be trying to get into your tiny panties too.”

She doubted he wanted to do such a thing, the emotions she had detected in him pointing towards a desire to get away from her as quickly as possible rather than get closer to her, yet his words sent a thrill through her, followed by a heat that had her pulse picking up pace.

“Come with me, or don’t. I won’t force you.” She turned away, slipped her arms into her black satin coffin-shaped backpack and strode towards the exit.

When she didn’t feel him following, she resisted the temptation to look back. She had offered him help, extended a hand to him. It was down to him to take it.

Aiko passed through the barriers and out onto the street. It was quiet, no cars moving along it, but she looked in both directions anyway before hurrying across to the other side.

“How far is the clinic?” His voice arrested her steps and she looked back at him where he stood in the entrance of the station, his left arm wrapped around him and the late-spring breeze stirring the damp lengths of his black hair.

“A mile.” She pointed in the direction.

His face darkened. She presumed it wasn’t the distance irritating him, but the fact she had intended to walk a mile through the maze of streets alone in the early hours of morning. She did it all the time, and she wasn’t the only woman in Tokyo who had the same habit.

He looked as if he wanted to tell her to hail a cab for herself and then said something, but she didn’t catch the words as she watched the emotions flitter across his handsome face, a kaleidoscope of them that moved so swiftly she couldn’t take them all in. Fear was there though. For himself still, or for her? Did he worry about her walking alone at night? Something akin to anguish crossed his face more than once too, and that emotion was there in his eyes as he reluctantly crossed the road to her.

What internal war did he wage?

His question earlier had revealed more about himself than anything he had said or done so far.

He found it difficult to trust, so he couldn’t understand how others could do it so easily.

She could trust him, because if he had wanted to get into her ‘tiny panties’ he probably would have done it when they had been standing on the platform of the station for ten minutes, not a soul in sight.

He had stopped the pervert on the train too, revealing a noble streak in his actions.

“You’ll probably get yourself killed if I let you go home alone,” he muttered in English, and she understood enough to get the meaning of his words.

He wasn’t coming with her so she could look at his wound. He was walking her home because he wanted to protect her.
