My brother’s fiancée should have been mine.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, and it’s not quite as bad as it sounds. Linc was running late for their first date and he begged me to stand in until he could get there.
I only went to tell the girl to run. To warn her about my brother’s selfish ways and promise she wanted no part of it.
But then I saw her. The stunning woman with auburn hair, sky blue eyes, and freckles I wanted to memorize.
The hour I spent with Audrey was hands down the best date of my life. Until my brother showed up.
Now, I’m covering his butt again. This time at their wedding rehearsal, because Linc hasn’t learned a damn thing. Work still comes first and that says a lot, doesn’t it?
So, sure… I’ll hold Audrey’s hand at the altar. And I’ll look into her eyes and wish like hell she would realize she deserves so much more.
I should have told her to run that night two and half years ago. Because all I want to do now is what I wasn’t bold enough to do then…
This is the first book by Molly McLain that I’ve read and I thoroughly enjoyed both the story and her writing style.
Going into the read I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but the story was a delight!!
Liam and Audrey are fabulous friends, even though Liam felt something when he initially met her, she was supposed to be meeting his brother and our leading man was respectful and didn’t try to dissuade her from meeting Linc, didn’t let his attraction be known and was ready to watch her marry his brother if that’s what she wanted.
I have to say that Liam was a much better partner for Audrey than his brother ever was. I did wonder if there was an element of Linc continuing to date Audrey, even going as far as proposing, because he suspected how his younger brother felt?! 🤷🏼♀️
When things went wrong Liam was there for Audrey and slowly she began to see what she had had in front of her for the past few years. We saw Audrey’s life growing up and got an understanding of why she put up with things with Linc for as long as she did.
I loved how sweet, caring and protective of her Liam was. How much he knew about her, understood her and was prepared to be patient until she got to the same place he’d been for a while.
Throughout the story there was a couple of things going on and hints dropped about the next couple or two.
This was a great start to what I’m sure is gonna be a fun series!!!
Molly McLain lives in a tiny Wisconsin town with her husband, three kiddos, and two adorable German Shorthaired Pointers. She’s addicted to 80’s ballads, 90’s rock, cheesecake, and office supplies, and she’s been scribbling down love stories in spiral notebooks since she was old enough to daydream about hunky boys and happily-ever-afters. Now, she turns those daydreams into steamy, small town romance novels.
“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”

My favourite genre is PNR - yep, more than happy to admit that I’m a bit of a #parawhores...... but small town is a very close second!!! In saying that, I’ll read and review a real mix of genres - from the better known authors to new-to-me authors and everything in between.
I hope you enjoy the posts and that they might lead you to some ‘new to you’ authors.
Thanks for stopping by.
