THE BAD BOY: I’m Johnny. An ex-con with a bad attitude and a controlling demeanor that somehow made the women flock to my bed but never my heart. It was unavailable for possession.

THE TEMPTATION: She was just supposed to be a two day hookup. But one taste of her and I knew I was in danger of never getting enough. She has her own demons to contend with, and dealing with my own was hard enough. I won’t allow temptation to take control of me.

THE SENTENCE: I’d given myself a life sentence a long time ago, and she made me want things I wouldn’t allow myself to have. Giving into it just might destroy us both.

“I’m going to have her before they leave,” I said presumptuously.

I felt Cal looking at me. “Oh, boy.”

“What?”

“You haven’t read much about her, have you?”

That caught my attention. “What does that mean? Is she a lesbian or something?” That would abso-fucking-lutely kill me.

He cackled. “No, bro. She’s a ball buster, man. No one gives that woman shit. She has quite a reputation. She’s respected as hell, but no one crosses her.”

I scoffed. “We’ll see about that.” After all, she was a hot woman. She had to be used to being hit on. And she’d want to be hit on by me. Plus, I didn’t want anything from her other than her body. The nice part was, she was traveling after this. Maybe she’d end up in the Denver area or back here in Florida, and we could hook up again.

Cal whistled. “I want to be around when she cuts off your balls and shoves them in your mouth.”

I rolled my eyes. “She can’t be that bad. Look at her. She’s probably a hundred and twenty pounds soaking wet.”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Cal said. “I’m going to grab some more beer from the back.”

“Need help?” I didn’t say it convincingly, and he knew it.

“Nope. You stay here and daydream. That’s about all you’re going to get.”

“You watch and see,” I said. “She’ll come to me.”

Lexi has agreed to enter one cesspit of bullsh*t, just to escape another much worse.

But that’s okay. As a matter of fact, she’s more than ready to deal with the consequences. After all, using one enemy to destroy another is just what she needs to right all the wrongs in her life.

Or so she thought . . . until she hears Andrew Drevlow’s voice and realizes one cruel fact:

She’s not over him.

She never was.

Are you willing to destroy yourself in the name of payback?

Her path is set. She has no choice but to go through with her plan. She can’t allow herself to be swayed just because she’s still attracted to a man.

The same man that once betrayed her.

The same man that once fooled her and humiliated her for his own entertainment.

He might still set her soul on fire, but that doesn’t matter. She’ll use him.

And when she’s through with him, there will be nothing left of the man he once was.

Excerpt

Denial.

We tend to make it our best friend, our constant shields. A perceived strength; a merciless weakness.

Because, in the face of truth, it flees, abandoning you when you need it most.

He’s coming.

I can feel the energy that is him—an energy I was once addicted to, a rush I could never truly forget, and it’s barreling toward me.

In front of me is a long, metallic shelf that’s built into the wall. I went through the trouble of setting up my things on it; my gadgets, a few pictures of my mom.

I’m holding one of those pictures now. Had been staring at it, reminding myself why I agreed to come work here of all places.

It almost falls out of my hand when I hear the pounding footsteps coming closer.

He’s . . . he’s running to me?

The automatic, steel doors slide open, and I have a split second to lower the frame, inhale, try to fucking compose myself.

The running stops.

Even before I register the sound of his rapid breaths, my knees go weak with sensation.

I haven’t laid eyes on him yet, and I’m completely breathless.

All those years. All that pain. How were they not powerful enough to erase his effect on me?

Why does it feel stronger than ever, stronger than I even imagined it?

Don’t let him see. He can’t know. He once used this weakness against me. He thought it’d be funny to play with me, use my feelings for him to lure me in. All so he could seduce me while his friends watched. While they recorded the whole thing.

The next day, they showed off that recording. To the entire school.

That old, buried rage and humiliation howl to life inside me. It’s a much needed reminder.

My body might be a fool, a victim of a glitching, primal biology, but I don’t want the man behind me.

I despise him.

I only want what he can do for me.

And every ounce of pain I can rip out of him along the way.

The thought hardens me, pushing back the ludicrous response I’m having to him.

I turn—

And nearly stagger back into the shelf behind me.

It’s him. Oh God, it’s Andrew Drevlow. I didn’t allow myself to keep tabs on him all these years. Didn’t look at a single picture.

In many ways, he’s still looks the same.

But no, he doesn’t. He really, really doesn’t.

A man stands before me. One that somehow seems taller. Way, way bigger, and he’d been a tower of muscles at eighteen.

Dressed impeccably in a dark blue suit, he stands there, staring at me, his eyes eating me up.

Like he’s been starved for the sight of me.

A small place inside me trembles.

His facial expression is so harsh. Everything about him is harsher, harder.

Darker.

A sort of madness glitters in his eyes. It scares me, but only because a part of me awakens for it.

I’ve been walking around dead for so many years, that part of me gone, eradicated by life. One look at him and it roars back to life, banging inside me. A volatile storm I’m not sure I can contain.

I hate him. Hate him, I remind myself. And I do. Regardless of everything else I’m feeling, the hate is still there.

But . . . he’s shaking.

So am I, can barely hide it. The emotions wrestling within me are too different—disgust. Hate. Rage.

Sadness.

Desire.

Fuck. I still want him?

Looking at him, I know the answer to that loud and clear.

That dark, reddish brown hair.

Those lazy, toffee-colored bedroom eyes.

He was everything I ever wanted once. A mountain of a man I was dying to own.

Now, I can barely stand the sight of him.

His reaction to me is messing with my head. Why does he look like it burns him to lay eyes on me? Like all he wants in the world is to come closer?

I swallow, struggling for calm, and finally bring myself to say his name. A name I despise. Another reminder I need. “Mr. Drevlow.”

His expressions twists. There’s no mistaking the agony in his gaze. The agony I hear when he says my name. “Lexi.”

A heart I’d believed to be hardened splits wide open inside my chest. Yearning hits. Hard. Fast.

And then he starts coming at me.

Excerpt

Without opening my eyes, I lean into Flynn’s lingering touch. He tucks more wayward hair behind my ear, pieces that weren’t even stuck to my cheek. He just wants to touch me. “Is this all right?” he whispers.

“Yes.”

I open my eyes, and he smiles at me. I smile back at him. He’s as excited by this development as I am. And, damn, it feels good. A million unsaid things are expressed as we gaze into each other’s eyes. Maybe not a million, but many, and all of them point to two things—I like Flynn, and he likes me. We are more than friends, more than pretend siblings.

Time freezes, and I revel in the magic of the moment. But alas, when he moves his fingers away from my face, the moment is lost.

“We should go in,” Flynn says, clearing his throat.

“Yeah, we should.”

In the house, neither of us mentions a word about what happened out on the porch. There’s no need for discussion; we both know this is huge. Flynn—a guy—touched me, and I didn’t have a meltdown.

Maybe there is hope for me, after all. Like real hope that I can have a normal relationship. I feel more like myself now than I have in a long time. So maybe this is the family I needed all along to help me reach this point.

And then there are my feelings for Flynn. Maybe Flynn is more than just the here and now. Maybe he’s my future.

His voice was doing funny things to me, so I gulped down more water. I couldn’t believe we were standing in my kitchen having this conversation. “Maybe I like to call the shots with the men I date.” Quite frankly, if they didn’t like it, then too bad, I almost added.

“Yeah, and how has that worked out for you, Sasha?”

His smug look made me want to wipe it off. “I’m not into long-lasting relationships, therefore it’s worked out just fine,” I retorted.

He gave a low chuckle and moved, boxing me in against the countertop. With his forearms on either side of me, he leaned in. His voice was low and gravelly as he murmured against my ear, “I was talking about the sex, honey. How was the sex?”

I wasn’t sure I wanted to discuss my sexual history, let alone admit it lacking. Meanwhile, his nearness was wreaking havoc on my senses.

He pulled back and danced his fingers down my arm. “Actually, I could tell you how it’s been for you.”

I shivered at his nearness and sexy voice. “Do tell,” I challenged on a whisper.

He smirked, knowing exactly the effect he was having on me. “It was fine. And the word fine is a throwaway word. It’s what you respond with to the doorman when he asks how your evening was: “Fine, thanks.” It’s what you say to the client when they ask how your flight was: “fine.” But it shouldn’t be the way you describe your sex life. Hell, maybe the first time was okay and promising. The second time, maybe a little bit better, but by the fifth time, you realized that’s it. That was the main act with the encore. But it was fine, so you stick it out for a while. After all, it’s nice to have a reason to wear something new and lacy with someone to notice. Nice to get dinner with someone. But then you find yourself bored and staying late at work even when you don’t have to because, frankly, the alternative isn’t as appealing, and that’s not so fine.”

“Okay, enough.” I moved one of his arms and stepped out of reach to lean against the opposite counter. He’d touched a nerve, hitting too close to home on my sex life or at least the one that I could remember.

“I only tell you this because I’ve been there, and now it’s time for something better than fine.”

“What’s your damage, woman?”

“What?” she snaps.

“You stupid? That it? Bringing a guy you dunno to your home? A guy who’s VP of a MC you call your enemy and shit?”

She smirks. “I have my reasons. Why? Are you planning on roughing me up?”

Roughing her up? If anyone else spouted the shit she’s been, disrespecting me and the club like that, wouldn’t be a question ‘bout it. Woulda been roughed up good. A done deal. But I don’t beat on women. Some of the brothers might not respect that line, but I do. Ain’t never laid my hands on a woman that way and I ain’t never gonna. Ain’t my father.

But I do wanna lay my hands on her in another way. The second she started mouthing off to me earlier, I was down for that. Had a permanent hard on since she threatened to pull her gun on me.

Talk ‘bout throwing me through a loop. Such a demented response. Know she meant business, but my dick was in the driving seat. If it’d come down to it, I probably woulda let her pull the damn thing just for the sick thrill of seeing a sight like it.

I ain’t used to women like her. In the club, they know their fucking place and shit. But this bitch ain’t nothing like them. Been messing with me all over the place since I walked into that diner. That smart mouth of hers should piss me off big time. It does, but that ain’t the end of the story. It fucking turns me on too. Fucking hot shit.

It don’t help that she’s such a fine piece of ass. Tight little body. Perky tits that’d make a sweet handful. Her silky dark brown hair that I wanna fist my hands in and tug on hard. And those deep blue eyes of hers? Fucking sexy as sin.

Yeah, she hates bikers. But I ain’t never let hatred get in the way of a good fuck. And while I’m stuck in this hell hole of a city on club business, I got time to play.

“Rough you up, huh? That what you want—my hands on you, babe?”

“I’ll break your fingers,” she fires back.

But it’s all bullshit. I ain’t blind. I see her blushing, crossing her legs all awkward and shit. She’s turned on. Mmm, yeah. I bet she’s already warm and wet between her thighs.

She stands up, tryin’ to hide it. Nice try, babe.

“Tell me what you know about Skinner’s plans.”

“Like I said; looks like he wants to set up shop here.”

“And that concerns Black Thorns how? This isn’t your territory.”

“Reirdon’s right next door to Brockford, so yeah, it concerns us, babe.”

She starts pacing slowly as she takes my words in. “All right,” she says finally, walking over to me where I’m lounging on the other couch. She stops in front of me, her arms still folded over her chest, pushing her sweet tits up and giving me a hell of a view.

“This is how it’s gonna work here. You tell me what you know. Give me all the intel you have on this latest initiative of theirs and I’ll take care of it.”

I scoff. “Ain’t happening.”

“Yes it is. I’ll take it from there,” she insists.

That’s it! This bitch dunno when to back down. Been holding back so far, thinking playing nice is the right way to go cuz she’s a woman, a tiny little thing. But to hell with that. Ain’t working. She’s a fucking ball buster and dunno when to back down. ‘Bout to fucking show her. Make her back down.

Grabbing her hips, I pull her down onto the couch, forcing her under me. She fights me—with her fists—no nails like most bitches would use. Nah, she’s all punches and kicks. Damn. Just getting me harder, babe. I grunt as her steel toe boots scrape my shins. She might be feisty, but she ain’t got the weight or muscle I got to back it up. I pin her legs with mine and capture her fists with one hand, pressing ‘em to her tits ‘til she’s at my mercy.

She grins at me then.

What the fuck? Weren’t expecting that.

Before I can figure out her game, she shows me, rolling her hips. I grunt as her pussy rubs against my rock hard dick. Fucking hell. She’s messing with me.

“So easy,” she says as she does it again, driving me insane.

“Stop,” I growl at her.

“Why?” she taunts. “It’s clearly what you want. Aww…got a hard on for me, biker boy?”

She wants to play, we’ll play. I slide my hand inside her jeans so quickly that all she can do is gasp. My fingers brush her panties and I smile to myself. Wet. Soaking wet. “Sure you hate bikers, babe? Cuz, your pussy’s craving this biker’s dick.”

“You’re disgusting,” she hisses.

Funny thing is, she don’t make no attempt to pull my hand outta her tight little jeans.

“Yeah?” I slide a finger underneath the lacy fabric of her panties and tease her drenched pussy. “I think you like that. Down and dirty.”

She bites her lip and shakes her head, tryin’ to fight it.

But I got all the proof I need on my fingers.

Our eyes lock and the heat between us almost makes me stop breathing. So fucking intense.

Jesus, I ain’t never felt nothing like it. My dick’s straining against my jeans painfully now. I’m right on the goddamn edge here.

I tease her pussy some more, and lean into her, my breath hot on her neck. “Want me to fuck you?”

She grinds against my fingers, answering me silently before panting, “Yes. But no more foreplay.”

“What?” I ask as I let go of her hands and rip open her jeans, roughly tugging ‘em down her legs.

“I want your dick, not your fingers,” she tells me.

“Music to my fucking ears, babe.”

I shake off my cut. I pull a condom outta the back pocket of my jeans, unbuckle the damn things in record time and sheath my throbbing dick.

I sink into her slowly, groaning at the feel of such a tight fucking pussy. Been a long-assed time since I’ve felt anything like this. The sluts that hang ‘round the clubhouse are all so damn loose. Nothing like this. Holy fucking shit. Can’t fucking move inside her. Her grip’s outta this world.

I look down at her and she’s got her head thrown back, her eyes closed as she licks her lips. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve even seen. Shit. That thought unsettles me. Get a grip, asshole.

“Hold my hands,” she says, her eyes snapping open. “Hold my hands down,” she presses when I don’t answer fast enough. It’s kinda hard to focus when I’m tryin’ to fight every instinct to pound her into the couch. Can’t ‘til she adjusts to my size. She’d probably pull her gun and shoot me for that.

I grab her wrists and slam ‘em into the couch above her head. Don’t take long before I feel her relax ‘round me. Mmm. Rough gets her off.

“Yes,” she moans out.

And that’s it. I’m done. I pull out almost all the way and then slam back in hard. She curses like a sailor as I pound her so fucking hard the couch moves.

“Name?” she pants at me.

“Neil,” I utter without thinking. My brain’s on lockdown right now. No blood flowing there. “Neil Barron.”

“Barron?” she questions. There’s an edge in her voice.

Fuck that. No more talking. I don’t bother responding. I lean into her, my tongue tasting the side of her neck. I suck hard, hard enough to leave a mark.

Next thing I know, she’s kicking me and yelling for me to get off her.

What the fuck?

“Get off me,” she orders.

“Please tell me you’re fucking about, babe.”

“No. Get off me. Now,” she shrieks. “Now! Pull out!”

As soon as I pull out and lift my weight off her, she scrambles off the couch, hastily pulling on her jeans. She’s white as a damn sheet.

“You’re related to Skinner. Pete Barron? The President of the Devil’s Mavericks is your family?”

Wow, she’s really freaked out, basically hysterical. “Why?” What’s the story here?

“Answer me!” she screams.

“We’re related, yeah.” Christ, even admitting the connection repulses me.

“What…who…who is he to you exactly? A distant relative?” she asks, way too hopeful ‘bout the distant part.

I pocket the condom, zip up my jeans and shrug my cut back on. “No,” I tell her, forcing myself to say the words I fucking hate admitting on my best days. “I’m his son.”

Her eyes go wide. “Oh God. I’m gonna be sick.” She grabs her mouth and runs from the room into the kitchen. A second later, I hear her puking her guts up.

What the fuck’s going on here?

Excerpt

“Who are you?”

“The new hire.” She swiped the dishrag on top of the worn, brown countertop, and didn’t look like she’d be offering up any more information.

If she knew me in my heyday, that’d never been her response. He raked her form up, down, then up again while he tried to decide if she were old enough to be inside a bar. Her hair was the color of a strong glass of cognac. The sides were short and neat, giving the air of a responsible adult. But the front had an ‘I don’t give a shit’ tousled effect that made him wonder again if she was legal. The style made her oval face more interesting than it really was, but when his gaze flitted over her high cheekbones and past her feline-shaped eyes that were the color of molten pewter, he concluded she was attractive, in a strange sort of way. And he liked the way her pointy chin stuck up in the air with defiance, or maybe it was confidence.

“Are you done eye-fucking me or do you need another minute, old man?” the bartender asked. Her question was matter-of-fact, and didn’t hold a lick of reprimand in it.

I like her. “The name’s Tony and I’ll be taking another minute.”

Author Bio

allyn lesley writes real stories about real people.

As a teen, allyn lost herself in the pages of some of Romance’s heavyweights, trusting that a happy ever after was just around the corner. In allyn’s own writing journey, as in life, she’s learned that people don’t always experience recovery and restoration after a fall. Her stories speak to the gritty side of life where the right choice isn’t always easily identified and happiness not quickly gained.
