Synopsis

Life doesn’t come with a weather forecast. There isn’t a report to tell you when a storm is coming. When the dark clouds roll in, you are lost to the depths of your own making.

Camaron Willis only had one person he could count on. One person who could always lift him up. After almost destroying their friendship he has to sit back and watch her marry someone else.

His world is consumed with darkness as the storm clouds wage on in his life. The only escape he can find is at the bottom of a bottle. He works, he drinks, and he sleeps with any woman who is willing to spread her legs. He doesn’t even realize the darkness has consumed him, until he finally catches a break in the clouds and finds a glimpse of light shining through

I was born and raised in Northeastern, Pennsylvania where I still live today with my husband and three beautiful children. Like everyone, I have had my ups and downs and have seen my life take a complete change. Previously, I was a working mom putting in 60 hours a week as a Financial Advisor but with the sudden loss of my mom who was my best friend I found myself giving up the suits and meetings for jeans and snack time. I have always had the passion for reading and found an escape through the words of all the talented authors I have read. My passion allowed me the opportunity to blog and to get a wonderful insight into the indie world. I have enormous pride and stay true to the characters and their stories as they reveal themselves to me. EXCERPT

“Hey, Samantha, where is the prick?” I stand on top of the counter covered in paint. It’s in my hair and down my shirt, shorts and legs, something Axel finds to be quite funny by the look on his face. “He went out with the guys for a beer. I thought you’d be there with him.” I can see a slight hesitation in his response. “Damn, yeah, I forgot that they were meeting tonight. You’re here alone and left the door unlocked? You need to make sure you lock that, even when you are home you don’t want just anyone walking in.” I shake my head and look back at the wall. “Yeah, Axel, I wouldn’t want just anyone walking into my apartment.” I am expecting him to just go and meet up with the pricks but to my surprise, he sits down at the table. “Need any help?” I turn around again and see him already pulling his tee over his head. “Why are you taking your shirt off, Axel?” He looks up at me with these mesmerizing brown eyes and in all seriousness he replies, “This is my favorite shirt.” Like that should be a logical reason for why he is taking it off. “Well, Axel, if it’s your favorite shirt don’t you think you should keep it on?” He shakes his head like my question isn’t logical. “Babe, I am not going to get paint on this shirt. I’m here so I’m going to help you.” I can’t help but smile. I really do appreciate the fact that he is willing to help and that he feels comfortable enough with me to want to stay. I motion to the extra brush and pail and he heads over and picks it up. Axel’s back is to me and I never realized how many tattoos he has. He is covered. Truly, his body is a canvas of art—across his shoulder blades he has Strength in big bold lettering. Underneath that, he has an oak tree with the roots leading down to his belt. The detail of the tree is magnificent, the bark and the branches along with the leaves are so realistic it truly takes my breath away. The tree looks to have something engraved into it, but I can’t see the names this far away. “Like what you see?” I shake my head and realize that I was caught staring at his back and the paintbrush I am holding is dripping down my arm as well as on the covered floor. I feel myself turn red. “No. sorry, I mean yes . . . grrrr! I was just admiring your tattoos.” Once again, Axel is laughing at me and shaking his head. “Red looks good on you, Samantha.”

Like many other foundations, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides assistance to injured soldiers as well as their families. SOWF also focuses on one of the most important challenges those families face; ‘getting to their hospitalized loved ones as quickly as possible’. With grants immediately provided to the family, they can travel to be bedside with their loved one, especially for those crucial first days. SOWF also provides a scholarship program, family services (including clinical social workers, scholarship counselors, and family services counselors). With on-going support and helpful counseling to all families of fallen members in every branch of the military, they are able to help in all the ways that count. The SOWF was highly recommended to me by a recent veteran who served in Iraq. Therefore, I am thrilled to be able to help them in any way possible. Every little bit counts.

excerpt

Grace moved closer, shifting her body so she could reach my face more easily. She ended up practically standing between my legs, brushing up against my injured one whenever she rinsed off the razor.

“Take a breath, Merrick. I haven’t cut you. Not yet,” she chuckled.

I breathed in her sweet scent, my head swimming with arousal. She had no idea what she was doing to me. All those months shaving with a tiny mirror stuck to the wall in my CHU had been frustrating as hell. I couldn’t see shit in that thing. Now I very literally couldn’t see shit and she was in front of me smelling like she did, being as gentle as she was, and all those memories didn’t seem like such a horrible thing.

Because now I was experiencing something even more torturous.

She positioned the razor under my nose and expertly removed the coarse hair above my lip. What would she do if I just leaned in and devoured her mouth? Would I miss her lips completely or would she meet me halfway?

She gently turned my face and started on the other side. I didn’t think having her shave my face would be this intimate. In fact, I was planning on it being annoying as hell since I thought she wouldn’t really know what she was doing. Asking my mother had been an option, but I didn’t want her leaving Mitch either.

“Almost there. You need a haircut, too.” Her voice was rough and sexy, and I had to hold back a groan when it sent blood rushing straight to my groin. “I can style it for you so it stays out of your face, but I’m no good with cutting hair.”

“That sounds good,” I replied. God, if she didn’t finish soon, I was going to do something stupid.

She raised my chin and carefully shaved my neck. When her fingers stroked my skin to check for any areas she missed, I swallowed thickly and lost the battle completely.

My injured and stiff hand found her wrist, slowly pulling the razor away from my skin. Her gasp sent my semi-erection shooting straight up to painfully hard. The skin of her wrist was like silk under my fingers, the tiny bones so fragile. I worried that if I was too insistent, I would hurt her with just a touch.

“Merrick?” she breathed, her sweet breath caressing my chin.

“Grace …”

I felt her racing pulse under my fingers and pulled her forward until I could feel the heat of her face so close to mine. I raised my other hand to her waist and made a cautious path up, until I gripped the back of her neck. She didn’t struggle or protest, and I hoped her accelerated breaths were telling me that she was feeling the same intense pull I was.

My dry throat finally found the strength to speak, even if it was just a whisper. “I would give anything to be able to see you right now.” I pulled her face closer, until the tip of her nose touched mine. The sound of the razor falling to the floor, briefly registered in my mind.

I live in Morgan, Utah with my husband, beautiful daughter, and a couple of spoiled pups. If I’m not deeply involved in writing my next book, then I’m probably reading in the safety and quiet of my closet. I love yoga – which I now practice regularly – playing hide and seek with my daughter (only to have my hiding spots revealed by one of the pups), and I love Fruit by the Foot, Twizzlers and Peace Tea. These are great ways to bribe me into revealing secrets about what’s to come.

I have an unhealthy obsession with Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and The Big Bang Theory. I also enjoy talking about them, so if you like them, too, come find me.

I felt her hand rest on my arm, stopping me from rolling away and getting the hell away from her before I said something stupid.
“I know you don’t remember me from before, but I …” Her words trailed off, her fingers constricting against my skin.
God, if I could just touch her, I wouldn’t need to ask questions. I would be able to feel every soft curve and edge, and I wouldn’t need anything more than that. If I could just touch her.
“I was never one of those girls that you found yourself with all too often.”
I frowned and leaned forward, waiting for an explanation. I had no idea what she was talking about. Of course she wasn’t one of those girls. She was real and sweet, compassionate and smart. Those other girls were just fake. The pretty was only on the outside.
“I was never really pretty. At least not the pretty that everyone would have seen. I was kind of awkward and nerdy, but rounder in areas where other girls were flat. Still am. Does that make sense?”
I hesitated before nodding my understanding, grinning when I envisioned her. “So you’re telling me that you look like a real woman and not a stick?”
She gasped and pulled her hand away from my arm. “I didn’t say that.”
I waited for her to continue. Anything that would give me a better picture of her. She stayed silent. I was starting to feel like the air around me was too thick to breathe.
Grace cleared her throat and shifted in her chair. I wanted to know what she was doing with her hands. Was she wringing them together? Were they in her lap? In her hair? Was she looking at me or trying to avoid that?
“I’m just me,” she said, quietly.
“You’re beautiful.” The words left my mouth without my prompting, but there was nothing inside of me that wanted to take them back.
She released a self-deprecating laugh and, again, I wondered what she was doing with her hands.
“I may be blind, Grace. But I can still see some things.”

Author Bio

I live in Morgan Utah with my husband, daughter, and dog, Kolo. I write as often as my active daughter will let me and my husband has the patience of a saint. I find inspiration from dreams, people I meet, and life experiences. When I write, I usually end up drinking one too many cans of Peace Tea, eating three too many Fruit by the Foot fruit snacks, and accidently kicking my pup and best buddy, Kolo, too many times since he loves to sleep under my desk at my feet.

I started writing as a teen, but my fear of the unknown won out every time and I threw everything out. After becoming a mother and deciding to stay at home to raise my beautiful little girl, I tried again when I couldn’t stop thinking of ideas. I loved every minute, every hour of sleep lost, and every character that came to life in my mind.

It’s strange, but my favorite moments are when I have writer’s block because I can turn to my husband and find inspiration through him by just doing what we do best together. Talking, laughing, and just being in love. He doesn’t like to read, but he never stops encouraging me to keep going.

Writing has become an important part of my life and every book has a special place in my heart.

Fear.

It’s the last thing I remembered.

I was afraid.

Afraid to fight, afraid to run… afraid to breathe.

Then, everything had gone dark. As if life was finally hearing my pleas, my cries to end the torment. To end the fear.

But even in the dark, I still felt it.

I always felt it.

My life had been a ricochet of one event leading to the next. Bouncing back and forth from good to bad. Happiness to despair. Hope to fear.

My name is Arianna West. I’m stronger now. Steady. Alive.

I can find a way to survive on my own. I can see what is coming for me. I can channel my fear into strength.

Except… I didn’t see Jack.

And Jack changed everything.

“No, Jack. It’s over now, it doesn’t matter. I don’t have the ability to focus on that part of my life. I’ve got too many other things to take care of before I go back to being… well, a woman that just wants to be loved.” “Ari, I -” “Let me finish,” I said sharply and held my hand up in between us. He shut his mouth and nodded. “I know I should be grateful for what I had and I have no one to blame but myself for the decisions I made, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to be that woman. Every woman just wants to find that kind of love, that kind of companionship, but I’m not like them anymore.” Jack’s frown deepened and I could see that he wanted to argue.
