Janie Adams has been a single parent to her nephew since he was a baby. Fifteen years later, she’s finally found out who his father might be, so the two of them travel across the country to find him. She’d do anything for this kid. But when they arrive in the small town of Wishing River, Montana, and Janie finally meets the ruggedly handsome cowboy she’d been told had abandoned his son, his shocked response changes everything.
Aiden Rivers can’t dispute this is his kid when he sees his own features staring back at him, but he had no idea Janie’s sister was pregnant when she left him. He didn’t even know she had a sister—clearly they’d all been lied to. Now he has fifteen years of fatherhood to make up for and no idea how to be a dad. This was never in his plans.
Janie sticks around to help him ease into parenting, everything from showing him how to lure a sulky kid out of his bedroom to keeping up with the latest teen-speak. Together, they surprisingly make a good team, this city girl and country boy. But when the past catches up with them, Aiden and Janie must decide what’s best for the boy who’s connecting them, not only for each other…which could mean splitting them apart.

Excerpt:
“Well, I’m wiped. I’m going straight to bed,” she said, hopping out of the truck and deciding she needed to grow up and stop fantasizing about this man like she was a teenager.
She waited on the porch, shifting from one foot to the other as he looked for the house key. “Does it always snow this much out here?” she mumbled.
“Nope. Usually more.” He shot her a glance and was about to put the key in the door when he stopped. And then he was back to the Aiden she was beginning to know. The guy with the easy charm. “Before we go in, I just… I’m glad you had a good time tonight, Janie.”
She tilted her head, feeling like there was more there. Maybe it was the wine, or maybe it was that she just knew that she wanted a little more of that feeling…that feeling that he brought out in her that made her take a step closer to him. “I did. Thank you—I mean not thank you—for bringing me into your world here.” His eyes softened at that, and it encouraged her to go on. “Everyone had great things to say about you. Also, do you know the women in this town have all had a crush on you at some point? And the guys may be slightly miffed at that.”
He ducked his head, and she found that little bit of modesty quite attractive. “An exaggeration for sure,” he said, lifting his head and looking deep into her eyes like he was searching for something.
“I…I’m not exactly sure what the allure is, frankly.”
His eyes widened, and then he laughed. He took a step closer to her, close enough that she could see the darker flecks of blue in his eyes. “Really?”
She nodded, kind of giddy at having his undivided attention. “I was trying to think what it could be about you that everyone seems to find so appealing…”
The way his grin faltered almost made her stop teasing him. Like he might think she was being serious.
“And?” His deep voice seemed to curl around her heart and tug until she couldn’t help but drop the humor and tell him how she really felt.
“It’s that your insides are reflected on the outside. You see, the man I’m coming to know is hardworking and strong and noble. And that kind of character is reflected in your beautiful face,” she whispered. She held her breath, feeling silly when he just stood there.
But then he lifted his hand—his warm, work-roughened hand—and gently delved into the hair at the nape of her neck. “Janie…”
The way he said her name, as though it came from somewhere deep inside, made her feel like she was the most special woman in the world.
About the Author:
Victoria James is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance.
Victoria always knew she wanted to be a writer and in grade five, she penned her first story, bound it (with staples and a cardboard cover) and did all the illustrations herself. Luckily, this book will never see the light of day again.
In high school she fell in love with historical romance and then contemporary romance. After graduating University with an English Literature degree, Victoria pursued a degree in Interior Design and then opened her own business. After her first child, Victoria knew it was time to fulfill her dream of writing romantic fiction.
Victoria is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after’s for her characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but she’s quite content living in suburbia with her husband, their two young children, and very bad cat.

Exclusive Excerpt:
“Are you a rancher, too, Logan?” Janie asked, and Aiden turned his attention to her. “You’ve got the right hat for it.”
“No, everyone out here wears cowboy hats. You’ll be wearing one, too, before long.” Logan’s grin was bashful. Aiden had never seen bashful on him before. Though, with the image of Janie in a cowboy hat coming to mind, he couldn’t really blame him. “I’m a vet,” Logan said. “I have a practice just outside of Wishing River.”
Janie smiled at Logan like he just announced he was some kind of superhero. “Really? I have six months left of veterinary college.”
Aiden’s stomach dropped as he watched the exchange, as the weird coincidence sank in. One vet, one almost vet, and one…bartender who should have been a vet.
Logan grinned wider. “That’s great. If you’re in town for a while, I’m always on the lookout for new people. Are you taking time off from your regular job?”
Her cheeks went a deeper pink, lifting one shoulder. “Sort of. But I plan to go back as soon as I can.”
“We’re always in need of some extra help at the clinic, so if you want a job in the meantime, it’s great experience. You, too, Will. If you want to come and hang out, we could always use someone to give a little attention to the animals staying overnight.” Logan pulled out his business card and handed it to her.
Janie’s eyes sparkled with excitement, and she accepted the card readily. And Will looked as happy as Aiden had ever seen him. “That is so generous of you,” she said, smiling.
A job at Logan’s was a hell of a lot better than a job in his bar. He should be happy about that. Instead he was watching Janie and Logan and Will bond over something that he also loved. That was juvenile, and he’d already dealt with that shit. Why was it coming up again now? Janie and Will deserved a break, and that’s what he should be focusing on instead of thinking like an ass. It’s just that he wanted to give them that break. “That’s great,” he said, forcing a grin. “Glad you guys were able to meet.”
There were only three stalls with horses in them, but Aiden’s dream was to have them all filled one day and have someone else manage the bar. The familiar, musky smell of the barn, the sound of horses shuffling in their stalls, the soft whinnying, almost made him believe he was living this dream. Until he was reminded that he hadn’t ever fulfilled his dream. But this was second best, what he had going on here. He had the land, the horses, the dedication to them. It didn’t matter that he didn’t have a “Dr.” in front of his name.
“Well,” Janie said, “we’ll get back to the house. It’s pretty cold out here. It was nice meeting you, Logan.”
“You, too, and you as well, Will. Hope I’ll be hearing from you, Janie.” Logan’s grin was a little too flashy for Aiden’s liking. Hope I’ll be hearing from you should have been followed by about the job and not so open-ended.
Will gave a small wave, and the two of them walked out. Aiden’s shoulders relaxed as they left the barn. And then tensed again when Logan turned to him with a glint in his eyes. “First off, that’s definitely your kid,” Logan said. “That sort of disgruntled eyebrow furrowing thing? And that one-sided dimple that women love for some reason that’s always escaped me, because it’s essentially a defect in your face. Come on. That’s you. Second, you never told me Maxi had a sister like that…let alone who was going to be a vet and is probably the most gorgeous woman I’ve met in a long time.”
Aiden walked over to the horse feeders, disappointed they were full. He needed to do something with his hands. He pulled his hat lower so Logan couldn’t comment on his “brow furrowing,” which he realized he was actually doing. Why was he getting bothered about Logan’s comment? It was a normal response. He felt the same way.
“Hello? Did you hear me?” Logan asked, walking over to him.
Aiden lifted his head and forced his eyebrows into their normal state. “Sorry, I have a lot on my mind—like the fact that I might have a teenage kid. I’m not really thinking about how hot his aunt is.”
Logan smirked. “Oh, so you did notice.”
“I have eyes. It’s a fact, not a statement confirming interest.”

BOOK BLURB
Deformed. Dangerous. Damned.
One night ripped my life away and left me a monster—the scarred gargoyle of a man who lived in the stained-glass shadows of a crumbling cathedral, selling my soul in order to seek vengeance on those who destroyed my life.
Until one day, the chimes I heard weren’t from the bell tower of Notre Dame, but from the bejeweled gypsy invading my space.
Though she swears her research is legitimate, her beauty shimmers with secrets. I can’t trust glittering eyes that aren’t repulsed by me, nor the tempting smile that is laden with lust. I can’t trust her.
So, I’ll watch and wait… and ignore how her sharp wit and bewitching charm scorch the shackles of my restraint and enchant me into her fire.
I’ll uncover the truth before she gets too close. Before she sees the broken man beneath the scarred beast. And before I give into her temptation.
She’s a threat to everything I’ve worked for—a threat to my cathedral and a threat to my revenge.
And, most dangerous of all, a threat to my stone cold heart.

JULIA
I never saw Noah Weston coming. He swept into my life like an unexpected storm, but soon, he was everything to me.
Until tragedy struck.
One day I was planning the rest of my life with my soulmate, and the next I was picking up the pieces of a love so strong, it broke me apart.
It took three years to put myself back together.
Three years until I was ready to move on.
I’ll never forget it. The day he came back.
Can lightening strike twice? Maybe, but when I look into his eyes, all I remember are the last words he ever spoke to me.
The words that left me broken.
NOAH
I loved her before I knew her name. She was more than just my heartbeat. Julia Blake was a dream too good to be true.
When real life invaded the bubble we had created, I was left a broken man.
I survived, but I was dead inside. Half the man I used to be.

“Oh, really?” I take one shoe off and throw it at him as hard as possible. He manages to move before it makes contact. He’s not so lucky with the second shoe, and it hits him right on the shoulder. “Here! Take them! And for the last time, this is not our anniversary! You broke up with me, remember? This is a Friday night, and I planned on going out with a man I’m interested in getting to know and possibly fuck. Do you know why? Because I’m single!”
“Girl, watch your mouth. Don’t make me call your momma,” Mr. Hampton yells.
All the neighbors stare, waiting to see what we do next. Anger fuels my next steps as I stomp my way back to my house, but Noah and Greg are right behind me. A few of the neighbors have now stepped off their porch to stand on the sidewalk.
“You guys want a show?” I shout.
“Bring it, girl,” someone answers back.
“This is what I’m going to do with your anniversary flowers, you lying, selfish jerk.” I open the door and grab the arrangement. I walk to the middle of the street, lift it above my head, and slam it to the ground with all the strength I can muster. The vase shatters in the middle of the street, the two dozen roses bounce on the pavement, and the water from the vase rolls down the concrete. “Happy fucking anniversary, you liar! Go to hell or go back to your racist parents. I don’t care which, just stay the fuck away from me, or I swear to God, that limp will be the least of your problems!”
“Leave my parents out of this! This is between us, and for the record, I haven’t talked to them in months.”
“Sure. You managed to buy a house on your teacher’s salary, right? That’s realistic considering you’ve had the job for two months. Maybe you used your nonexistent teaching bonus as a down payment? God, you’re a liar, and I hate myself for never seeing you for the dishonest person that you are!”
“Why do you keep calling me a liar? What the fuck do you think I lied about?” he yells.
“You lied about everything!” I scream so loud I can feel the vein in my neck pulsing. I take a step closer and point my finger in his face. “I love you, Li. You’re my world, Li. I want you to have my baby, Li. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Li.” I do a poor imitation of his voice as I scream in his face. “And you let me believe you were a struggling student just like me, not the son of millionaires. Everything about you is a lie. Our entire relationship was an illusion.”
“I meant all of that! I still want all of that with you, and I never told you I was struggling. We never even talked about money. Everything I said was true. Every feeling. I love you so much, it physically hurts to breathe sometimes.”
Q & A With Eveyln Sola
- Have you always wanted to be a writer?
No, I didn’t. I’ve always been an avid reader, but I never aspired to be a writer. I never thought I had it in me to tell a story from beginning to end and keep it interesting. Then around 2016/2017, I started reading Fifty Shades of Grey fanfiction. After about a year of being a reader, I was persuaded by a couple of people to write my own stories, so I did, and I haven’t looked back since. Once I did that, it didn’t take much to convince myself that I can create my own characters and my own world.
- Describe your typical writing day for us.
I try to do most of my writing in the morning. I’m fresher and more alert when I first wake up. I guess I’m what is known as that annoying morning person, but I have a fulltime job, which gets in the way of my passion. I try to do about an hour’s worth of writing before work and a few sprints during the day. My goal is to get two thousand word down each day. I don’t always make it, but that’s always my goal.
- Where does your inspiration come from?
Other writers in the Indie community inspire me. From people who have been at it for years, to those who are just starting out like me.
- How do you come up with your book titles?
All of my titles so far are one word. I try to find a verb that best captures the essence of the book.
- Can you share with us something about the book that isn’t included with the blurb?
As you know, Broken is a second chance romance. One of my favorite romance tropes, by the way. The hero is the one who ends the relationship, and he shows back up three years later. He not only manages to get a job at the same place as the heroine, but he moves in across the street from her as well. He infiltrates her life in every way.
- Do you listen to music when writing? If so, can you share with us some of the songs that inspired you or that you listened to while writing?
I don’t listen to music when I write. I always have the TV on, however, and it’s usually on Investigation Discovery.
- Using only 3 words how would you describe Julia? Noah?
Julia is strong. I believe she’s a survivor. She’s also guarded. Noah is resilient, brave, and definitely a fighter.
- What do you hope readers will take away from this book?
This is a story about two young people who find love until they are forced apart. It’s a story about family and the power of forgiveness.
