Excerpt
Intro:
My heroine, Violet, speaks French. Here is where she teaches Walker how to
say
To kiss in French…
“To kiss is embrasser.”
“Em-brah-say,” he parroted.
Violet usually hated the way French sounded when a non-native speaker tried it.
Walker didn’t pronounce the words perfectly, but he didn’t butcher them, either. And somehow he made each one sexier in his own rugged way.
“How would you—embrasser me?” he added.
She laughed. “First I’d give you more warning than I did this morning. I’d say, Je veux t’embrasser, which means I want to kiss you.” And did she ever.
Nothing was more of a tease than being close enough to kiss him, wanting to kiss him, and not kissing him. How did he exercise such restraint?
Or maybe he didn’t want her as much as she wanted him.
“Je veux t’embrasser,” he repeated, his accent a little better this time.
“That’s good. You’re getting the hang of it.”
“No,” Walker said. He let his bottom lip brush hers, and she sucked in a breath. “Je.Veux. T’embrasser.”
Her throat went bone dry, and she struggled to swallow.
“Then kiss me already.”

RELEASE BLITZ with GUEST POST – Risky Play (Red Card #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

Why Sports Heroes Make the Best Book Boyfriends by Rachel Van Dyken

Hey everyone! I’m Rachel Van Dyken, author of over eighty (holy crap) books in multiple genres, one of my favorites being, sports romance! My latest book, Risky Play, is about two broken main characters who find themselves on a last minute holiday to Puerto Vallarta.

Pro Soccer player Slade Rodriguez is trying to lay low after finding out his girlfriend and his ex teammate hooked up behind his back, for over a year. Licking his wounds he changes teams and moves to Seattle, but isn’t ready to settle down yet. Needing time to himself, he gets on the first jet out. He sits next to Mackenzie Dupont on a plane and is immediately intrigued, especially since a few hours into the plane ride, they have single engine failure. She asks him what one thing he would do different. And they kiss. Once the plane safely lands, to protect his own identity, he gives her a fake name, Hugo. What he doesn’t realize is she’s famous in her own right, so she does the same thing. After all, she’s running away from a broken engagement. What follows is a whole lot of steaminess and taking chances with a complete stranger assuming that it’s just that, a one night stand, a two night stand. Whatever it is, Mackenzie’s obsessed with “Hugo’s” intense golden gaze, the eight pack helps, and the fact that he seems genuinely interested in everything she says. He promises the universe he’s going to keep her, but sometimes the universe is against us. Tragedy strikes and they go their separate ways only to meet again in Seattle, this time, sparks fly and not the good kind The “I want to kiss you, then strangle you, then kiss you again” kind.

I love writing sports romances because I think it adds this extra layer of pressure from the press to act a certain way. Not only does Slade have to deal with paparazzi but he has pressure to perform, to lead his team to the championships after training with another team. I think it brings in so many details from behind the scenes that we never think about when watching sports on TV. I’m fully dedicated to interviewing real athletes (and my last sports romance I interviewed NFL players). This time I wanted to focus on a sport that isn’t as huge here as it is internationally and really do it justice. These athletes eat, sleep, and breathe their sport, there isn’t a lot of time for a personal life and if you do have one, the balance is always going to be a struggle (not to mention the fact that Slade is still mourning). In this book, I wanted to introduce a really strong female character that wouldn’t let Slade project all those feelings and basically Mackenzie is the type of girl that doesn’t put up with his crap. I think it’s important to have strong female characters that women can look up to. I love that during the entire journey my heroine doesn’t give up. She knows her worth and demands that Slade recognize it too.

All in all it was such a fun book to write, I can’t wait for everyone to read it!

Excerpt: Risky Play by Rachel Van Dyken

I was kissing her again.

Maybe it was because it had been months since I’d had a decent kiss, since I’d jumped into the arms of anyone who didn’t know me by name.

I could be Hugo for a few days.

Hugo seemed spontaneous.

Hugo seemed relaxed.

Hugo seemed fun.

I sure as hell needed some fun.

I broke away from her kiss and trailed my fingertips down her chin. “So, now that we’ve established the plane didn’t crash and we’re here side by side, what did you have in mind?”

Ashley grinned up at me, her eyes a bit hesitant as she looked from me to the ocean. “Well, I’ve never gone cliff diving, I heard there’s a great place close by.”

My eyebrows shot up. “No offense, but you don’t seem like a thrill seeker.”

She laughed. I decided I liked the way her laugh relaxed me, made me respond with a smile and a need to kiss her again. “I’m not, trust me.” She sobered a bit. Her lips turned down.

I wanted nothing more than to press a soft kiss to the corner of her mouth just to see if it would it make it decide to smile in my direction again.

“But it would be fun, I need fun.”

I sighed heavily and looked at my feet. When the hell had I ever looked away like that? “That makes both of us.”

“Great!” She walked ahead of me into her penthouse suite, which matched mine even in color. I suddenly wondered what she did for a living. I mean I could afford it because I had been the highest paid soccer star in Europe for the last ten years.

The place was around three grand a day.

I eyed the large master suite as she ran around and then held up her hand. “One sec, I’m going to change into a suit, alright?”

“Great.” I smiled reassuringly. It would give me time to look around, not that I was stalking her, but I could never be too careful. I was still surprised she didn’t recognize me. And I knew when she did, this little facade, this freedom I felt in my chest, the easy way she let me breathe around her? It would go to hell, and I’d need another escape.

I thumbed through a few of the magazines on the table, and dropped the last one down just in time to hear the sliding bathroom door open and see a goddess emerge.

A one-piece swimsuit covered her body. It had a plunging neckline that showed off two generously sized breasts, and I immediately regretted not telling her who I was.

Because clothing tended to get pulled off, not put on, when I was in the room.

I eyed the scrap of material she called a swimsuit, my eyes raking over her muscular legs, her curvy body.

“Unless you’re jumping naked, you should change too,” she pointed out, then cleared her throat and looked away like she was insecure. Damn, the woman could make a man cut his own heart out for a taste of her special brand of sin.

I peeled my shirt off over my body and shrugged. “Ready.”

Her eyes went so wide I had to fight not to laugh.

I knew what she saw.

I had Instagram pages dedicated to my eyes alone, don’t even get me started on my abs.

Eight.

Tight, packed abs, all tanned and golden like I was the sun god himself.

“Uh, right.” Her cheeks brightened as she clasped her hands together. “Let’s go!”

I checked her out the entire time she walked ahead of me, and when she caught me staring I just shrugged and said, “Next time wear more clothes if you don’t want me to look.”

“You should talk,” she fired back.

“Misunderstanding.” I grinned. “I wanted you to look.”

She slapped a hand against my bare chest.

I laughed, and then grabbed her hand and kissed her fingertips. “You ready to jump off a cliff with a stranger you’ve kissed twice?”

“Once,” she corrected with a whisper. “I kissed you, you kissed me, we’re even.”

The doors to the elevator opened as I whispered under my breath. “Not for long.”

Excerpt
“Tell me, Audrey,” he murmured softly in my ear, “what’s one habit you wish you could break?”
Half a dozen things other flashed through my
mind—using a fork and knife for my pizza, flossing my teeth at night while watching TV in bed, other things that irritated my ex. Maybe the biggest habit I needed to break was falling for the wrong men, but even that wasn’t a habit.
Once. It happened
once. I just happened to do it Olympic-style, and lost everything.
I bit my lip—another habit—before blurting out, “I wish I was more spontaneous.”
Once my life didn’t go to plan with my parents’ death, I made damn sure I planned the rest. It hadn’t worked out. Was it karma?
Fate? The gods laughing at me?
“You seemed pretty… free-spirited earlier.”
Was this flirting? “Well, you know,” I laughed uneasily. “What happens in Vegas…”
My earlier show in the lobby with the champagne bottle was the craziest I’d probably acted since… well, ever. I couldn’t deny that it was liberating.
Maybe I needed to be a little wilder.
Maybe I needed to have a fling.
Maybe I needed to remind myself that one of the hottest men in the world was sitting close enough to irradiate my brain cells and make me think naughty thoughts.
The taxi wasn’t so small that we needed to sit hip-to-hip and shoulder-to-shoulder.  His breath was hot at the top of my ear, and I knew that if I just turned my head and tilted my chin…
I shook my head slightly, unable to even look
him in the eye. I didn’t have the guts. Dev wasn’t an adolescent boy anymore.
Now he probably dated supermodels and movie stars. And me? I had no game. Hell,
I’d already lost a few turns in the Game of Life.
“What about you?” I asked him as the car
stopped.
 “What about me?” he replied.
He pressed closer, reminding me that I needed
to get out of the car before he could. I wriggled over, trying to keep my skirt down and my shoes from slipping off.
Then I made the mistake of turning my head and meeting his gaze, like a kid who can’t help but look at the sun during an eclipse. His lips curved as he leaned his body into mine to make for the door.
My voice was needlessly breathless when I asked him, “Do you have a habit you wish you could stop?”
“Compulsive kissing.”

Excerpt

I sighed heavily as I freed my toes from the death trap heels. “Men have it so easy. You don’t have to put up with this kind of torture. No hair, no make-up to do.”

Dev shrugged. “What can I say? I roll out of bed looking like this.”

My mouth went dry as I pictured him rolling out of bed. In my imagination, he was wearing a lot less than he was now.

By the time we reached the door to my room, I realized I was running out of time to proposition him. I dropped my shoes to rummage through my purse for the key card. Didn’t I just have it, to show the guard at the elevator bank? Yeesh.

Dev waited patiently beside me. He even bent down to pick up my shoes for me. The movement of his head near my waist made me pause. Gah. Trying to ignore the tingling feeling in my stomach, I kept searching. Blindly I felt a few things, but funnily enough I couldn’t find my card—or my courage.

Oh wait, there it was. It was in the side pocket, along with a ton of sexual tension.

I cleared my throat and tried to sound casual. “Uh, do you want to come in? We could catch up… or something?”

“Audrey.”

Something in his voice made me look up from the depths of my bag. His eyes were like obsidian in the light lining the never-ending corridor. When he stepped closer, my back went up against my door.

“Forget I asked,” I murmured.

He ran his thumb over my jaw, and I reflexively tilted my head up to him. He said my name again, his voice even rougher and deeper than before. My bare toes curled against the carpet.

Still buried in my bag, my hand closed around my key. I was running out of time. Without really thinking about it, I popped up on my tiptoes and pressed a kiss to the beard-roughened space between the corner of his mouth and his jaw.

“Thanks for the escort.”

Somehow he moved even closer, because as I went back down on my heels, I found myself flat against the door and his body pressed against mine. It was hot and hard and… oh!

“Audrey?”

“Hmmm?” Was this like Beetlejuice? If he said my name three times in a row, would I come?

I looked up to see him lick his lips. He didn’t need his body to pin me to the door—his gaze did the job well enough.

“Give me your damn key,” he growled.

Excerpt

Audrey’s dark hair curled on her shoulders, hiding all the best nooks and crannies of her neck. It begged to be swept aside like a curtain. I reached out to push a bit of her hair back.

Wait.

“Uh, did I do that?”

Blushing furiously, she smoothed her hair back down, covering the little bruise a couple of inches below her earlobe. “Yes. You did.”

Well, damn.

“You don’t need to look so proud of yourself,” she huffed.

“I’m not proud.” Okay, maybe a little.

“You’re not?” I loved that she looked a little disappointed.

When I leaned toward her, I could smell the fruity, spicy scents of the hotel’s shampoo in her hair. Any closer and I’d be able to kiss the silky strands.

“Disappointed.” I lowered my voice. “I wish I’d been able to mark you in other places.”

“Oh.”

“Places that are normally covered up.”

“Oh.”

“I want to talk to you about your proposition,” I said.

“Oh god, I’m so embarrassed.” She squeezed her eyes shut. “Can we just forget it?”

I shook my head. “No, sorry. It was unforgettable. Literally.”

Now her hands flew up to cover her face, like a toddler pretending I wasn’t there. “You’re never going to let me live this down, are you?”

“No way.”

Gently, I circled her wrists and pulled her hands away. In so many ways, Audrey was more vulnerable now than when she was a child. When she blinked at me guilelessly, I found myself wanting to protect her like Brett and I had done when we were younger.

No, not quite like back then.

“I want to remember it for the rest of my life,” I admitted.

“What, like PTSD?”

This girl. I grinned at her. “No, like the beginning of something amazing.”

Excerpt

I huffed. “I hate surprises.” And I wasn’t crazy about blindfolds, either.

I’d dreamed and planned and been certain about so many things in my life, only to have them go poof! My parents, college, my job, my love life… I’d lived with disappointment for so long that it was what I’d come to expect. My mouth turned down at the corners, even as Dev’s hand caressed the small of my back with hypnotic, circular motions.

It was a toss-up as to which method of torture would break me first—his touch or the suspense. Hopefully we were alone in this elevator.

“C’mon…”

“It’s not a bad thing to leave a little mystery in life, Audrey.”

I rolled my eyes beneath the scarf tied around my head. “Are you kidding? Life is nothing but mystery!”

He made a humming noise of disagreement.

“Okay, tell me one thing that you are absolutely, positively, one hundred percent certain is going to happen tomorrow—other than the sun coming up or something stupid like that.”

His touch startled me, his thumb on my lower lip both disorienting me and grounding me in place.

“I absolutely, positively know,” he said to me in a rough voice, “that I’m going to want to kiss you tomorrow. And the day after that.”

When he dropped a ghostly kiss across my lips, it was so faint and brief that it could have been my imagination. His arousal was very real, I discovered, as he moved closer to me, his hips pressing into mine as my back hit the wall of the elevator.

“And I am ninety-nine percent certain that tomorrow morning, you will be the first thing I think of when I wake up and the thing that makes me smile all day.”

The doors opened with a ding. Dev tugged me forward by the hand, but I stopped in my tracks after half a dozen steps.

“Wait. Only ninety-nine percent?”

He chuckled under his breath, his hands going to the knot at the back of my head. The makeshift blindfold fell away, until he moved it around my neck with a swish. I blinked when I looked up at him. Note to self: mascara and blindfolds don’t go well together.

My heart was in my throat when I looked into his dark eyes. “So there’s a one percent chance that you’ll change your mind in the morning?”

His smile was a flash of white in the dim… well, wherever the hell we were. He wound the ends of the scarf around his fists, pulling me toward him.

“No, Audrey. There is a one percent chance that, tonight, you’ll be the death of me.” He pressed his forehead against mine. “But I’ll take my chances,” he said hoarsely.

Title: The Hashtag Hunt

Author: Kristina Seek

About The Hashtag Hunt:

The only reason Lauren entered the Hashtag Hunt was for the $10,000 grand prize. For hashtag number five, Lauren needs a #HottieInTheWild, and with the help of her best friend, Ivy, she finds the perfect subject.

The only reason Brenner entered Barkley’s Pub was to have beers with Scott, an Army brother back in town. The reunion is interrupted when a woman is caught crouched in a dark corner, taking pictures of Brenner. Lauren explains, and though embarrassed, she accepts Scott and Brenner’s offer to help with hashtag number six.

While hunting for hashtags, Lauren finds adventure and romance with her #Hottie, but she must stay focused to beat the clock and win the cash.

“I’m sorry. Are you saying ‘hottie?’ ‘In the wild?’” Scott didn’t hide his confusion. “That’s not a thing, is it?”

“Oh yeah,” Ivy said. “It’s a thing. My Facebook friends post pictures of hot guys out in public all the time. Subways, airports, Disney World, construction sites, tattoo parlors, in line for coffee, carpool…” she trailed off with a shrug. “Wherever.”

“Are you serious?” Scott looked at Brenner and said, “I’m not sure men could get away with a ‘Honey in the Wild’ Facebook group.”

“Please, Scott. We ladies are making up for lost time,” said Ivy. “A handful of hotties on Facebook doesn’t compare to the tons of T & A on the Internet.”

All who heard Ivy’s voice nodded, and Margot shouted, “Preach!”

“Okay. Let me see if I understand what you’re saying,” Jess said as she sat up straighter in her chair. “Women take and post pictures of hot men they see out and about in town.”

“All. Day,” confirmed Ivy.

Jess left her chair and went behind the bar. She bent down and then reappeared, plopping her oversized purse on the bar top. She fished her phone out of the bag. “Show me the way.”

“Get on Facebook.” Ivy walked over to Jess. “I got you.”

Lauren looked at Brenner. Pointing to Ivy and Jess at the bar, she said, “I did not take your picture for that Facebook group. I needed it for this contest, I swear.”

Brenner said, “I’m flattered you found me attractive enough for your photo.”

“I knew it!” Ivy shouted from the bar. She looked up from Jess’s phone. “I told her any normal guy would love knowing he was a hottie in the wild.”

“Well,” said Jess, looking at her phone, “Facebook just got a hell of a lot better.” Lauren watched her move her thumb across the screen. “And these guys have no idea these pictures are being taken?”

“Plenty of women get caught,” Ivy said with a pointed look toward Lauren. “Most play it off by pretending they’re texting someone or taking a selfie. A friend of mine once acted like she was looking for a coupon when she was busted in line at Dick’s Sporting Goods.”

Jess looked up from her phone and said, “And some women run away and hide in the ladies’ room.”

“Take it easy on her,” Brenner said to Jess. He turned his attention to Lauren and said, “It’s worth it if the picture helped you win the contest.” When Lauren didn’t respond, he asked, “Did you win?”

“The contest doesn’t end until tomorrow. I have to take twelve pictures, and yours was number five,” Lauren responded. “If your picture is accepted, I’ll get a text with instructions for number six.”

“And if it’s not accepted?” Brenner asked.

“Then I’m out of the contest. First contestant to have twelve pictures approved before the deadline wins.”

“Wins what?” the crowd asked.

“Ten thousand dollars,” said Lauren.

Excerpt:

Standing here toe-to-toe with Felicity, he found his resolve wavering.

Not that it would matter. Another verbal joust or two, he sensed, and she’d be on her way. As much as he hated the idea of upsetting her, her staying bothered him far more.

Across the room, a perky mambo-style song began to play. Felicity’s features quickly shifted from irate to worried. She spun from him to retrieve a phone from her purse.

“Hey, Laur, what’s up? Wait, slow down. My duplex is what?”

Felicity turned and hurried toward the foyer, her voice a quiet rush. As she did, Edna rose from her chair and came over to smack him upside the head.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” she said in a hiss.

“What? You always said honesty should come above all else.”

That earned him a second wallop. “You can be honest and still use tact, you nincompoop. I expect you to apologize when she comes back.”

“But—”

“No buts. If she’s been hired to be your personal assistant, then you let her. Heaven knows the poor girl and her son need all the help they can get right now.”

Scott hung his head. Saying it like that, Edna made him sound like some evil villain out to swindle a fair maiden. Not used to playing the bad guy, he tried to come up with a new plan.

Maybe they could work together to trick J.B. into thinking she was doing the PA thing. Because, aside from giving him a ride to his weekly doctor visits, there really wasn’t any other reason for her to be around. All he had to do was convince her to fib to his agent, and they’d both be better off. For the first time since this crazy arrangement had been sprung on him, Scott actually looked forward to his next conversation with her.

“Besides, that one’s a keeper.”

Oh no. He needed to put a stop to that kind of thinking, ASAP.

Scott threw his grandmother a warning look. “She’s not a date, Grandma. She’s my assistant.”

“Mm-hmm.” Her cotton-ball brows waggled. “Wanna put a wager on it?”

“Do we need to have another talk about your gambling problem?”

“Bah, Ohio’s taken the fun out of you.”

Felicity rushed back into the room, worry etched across her beautiful face.

Wait, beautiful?

“As much fun as it was arguing with you, Scott, I’m afraid I need to go. My penny-pinching landlord finally cut one too many corners, and the apartment connected to mine caught fire earlier. Our half is in the process of being condemned.”

Scott could hardly believe his ears. She was leaving? And not because of him?

He felt badly for her, truly he did. But silently? He did a mental fist pump.

“Condemned?” Edna cursed, and not under her breath. “I always knew that Harvey Gregory was a no-good miser. But honey, where will you go?”

“To my cousin’s, to see if she knows anyone who can spare us a room for the next few days. Or maybe she’ll just shoehorn us into her basement. I don’t know.”

Guilt ate at Scott as Felicity’s voice wavered. As much as he wanted her gone, his heart went out to the woman and her smiley, shaggy-haired son. How much of their world had just been destroyed by the fire? “Is there anything we can do to help?”

“No.” Felicity raised her chin, trying for bravado, but the sound was more of a hurt whisper. “My home, my routine. I’ll figure something out. I always do.”

“Nonsense,” said Edna.

She wouldn’t.

His grandmother’s gaze cut to his.

She couldn’t.

“You can stay here with us.”

She did.

Brogan had intentionally given me a glimpse into himself by expressing his feelings in
words he’d never shared with another living soul. But in that moment, when his eyes met mine, he offered me something else.
Likely unaware he’d even done so.
He gave me a piece of his vulnerability. His pain. A sliver of the hidden humiliation that
he kept buried beneath a painted canvas. Covered in graffiti. Locked behind years of loss and doubt. It crossed his brow in shallow valleys of hesitation and colored his cheeks in raw insecurity.
He was open. Closed off. Pushing me away while desperately trying to hold me close.
It was too much to process at once, leaving me immobile, grounded in place. The only thing
I could do was open my mouth and give him honesty. “Your words…they make my chest hurt. As I read them, I breathed them in, and they burrowed themselves next to my heart. Took up residence within my lungs. They’re powerful enough to keep me safe, yet just as capable of destroying me.”
“Mercy…”
“They make my eyes burn. Every vowel, every period. Every syllable you wrote and verse you formed did something to me that I’ve never experienced. I’ve never read something so beautiful, something that literally brought tears to my eyes.”
“Mercy, that’s enough.” Beneath the stern tone and harsh shell lay a boy who couldn’t accept my praise. “I didn’t do it for compliments. You said you didn’t know me, so I’m showing you who I am. You think I’m using you to kill time until Jessica comes back, and I’m trying to prove to you that I’m not. I don’t need your
approval. I need
you.”
Under his intense scrutiny, I became fully aware of my state of undress.
“I’m, uh… I’m going to put on some pants.” I took a few steps backward, holding my shirt
down in the front.
“Hey, Mercy? Could you do me a favor?”
I stopped and held his stare.
“Next time you hang out with your ex, can you tell him that if he ever contacts me again, he’ll wish he’d never learned how to type? Thanks.”
“He did what? He texted you?”
He went right back to browning the meat, continuing as if he hadn’t just dropped a bomb at my feet. “Email, but yeah. Same thing. I think he got off on telling me that
I’m runner-up. I guess you told him that you’re waiting to see if he lied about where he was that night? And if he was telling the truth, you plan to get our marriage annulled?”
“He twisted what I said.”
“Then I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t give a shit what he had to say.” He moved the pan off the burner. “Although, I don’t think he liked it too much when I told him I hoped he enjoyed the taste of my cum, because I fucked your pussy so hard and so deep it’ll be a while before it’s all out.”
I was shocked. And mortified. And incredibly turned on by his possessiveness.
“Did you really?”
His smile became visible in his eyes first, but half a second later, it was drawn across his face.
